FOR A REQUEST!
Tumblr media
COMMANDER WOLFFE Name after Wolves, because the Clone Wars director, David Filoni, really really likes Wolves. In a sense, Cody to Lucas is Wolffe to Filoni. ( Its also for that same reason why Wolffe was Commander for Plo Koon, who was Filoni's favorite Jedi, and why there are Loth-Wolves. )
COMMANDER FOX Named after Foxes, just as Wolffe is named after Wolves... But more specifically, his name is likely a reference to 20th Century Fox, who was the Movie Stuido that originally Produced Star Wars itself; back when it was just Star Wars, instead of "A New Hope". It was considered one of the "Big Five" in the golden age of Hollywood. The Other Four being: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Paramount Pictures, Warner Brothers, and RKO (Radio-Keith-Orpheum) Radio Pictures (So ya'll have fanfic fuel for Fox's potential batchmates. At least one of them is called "Radio" )
COMMANDER MAYDAY Mayday refers to a holiday (the first of may), but in this case, likely refers to the distress call. The term Mayday was proposed, in the early 1920s, by officer in charge of Croydon Airport (England), Frederick Stanley Mockford. Due to air traffic at the time being between Croydon and Le Bougret Aiprot, France; He proposed "Mayday" because it was the phonetic counter part for the French, "M'aidez" ( Help Me) or "M'aider" (the short form of "Come Help Me") ( Wonder if Mayday has ever been to Ryloth. )
Since we could always use more Clone stuffs, how bout I go through some clone names and we can all find (or have a nice review) of who got what name and what it means.
COMMANDER CODY The first named clone trooper, and the first unique clone onscreen as of Revenge of the Sith. So its only fitting we start with him. The name "Cody" originated as O'Cuidightheach, a gaelic name, and effectively, it means "Helpful" or "Helpful Person" Cody, out of universe, got his name based on old movies of Commando Cody--of which, Lucas was a fan of. In the extended Star Wars universe, Cody is a Republicized variant of the Mando'a word "Kote", which means Glory.
CAPTAIN REX Rex's name means "King" in latin. It can also refer to the Dinosaur, the Tyrannosaurus Rex. And it is also a common name for pet Dogs. Take that as you will.
LIEUTENANT JESSE Another shockingly ordinary name, and a Hebrew derived name. Coming from Ancient Greek of "Iessei", and then from Hebrew itself "Yishai". It means "Gift of God" or "God Exists" But more than likely, given that such historic-terminology does not exist in Star Wars. LT Jesse's name is more likely derived from the idiom "Give someone a Jesse"... Which means to give them a scolding or a beating.
KIX I've discussed Kix before, but I might as well do it again for posterity. Kix, is derived from Kex, the archaic english term for the plant "Hemlock". TBB fans, go wild.
HARDCASE You might assume this means that this someone who is hard-nosed and a hard nut to crack, but that isn't the case for our Hardcase. Hardcase is derived from New Zealand Slang, as An "amusing, funny, witty, or possibly strange person."
DENAL There is no specific case that I can make for Rex's early command squadmate, save that Denal is probably meant to be Denial.
BOIL While we can make jokes about the skin abrasion, it probably refers to his temper. A Boiling point, as it were.
WAXER It could be referring to someone who waxes... But, it could also refer to the term "Waxing", as it the growth of something. Given his "Glass half full" personality, perhaps its "Glass half waxing".
COMMANDER BLY The Commander of Aayla Secura's legion, and whom fired upon her during Revenge of the Sith. The term bly, a dialetcic english term, means "Likeness" or "resemblance". Means Bly literally got his name for resembling another person (Wow, no Shit). Whoever named him, basically called him the clone variant of Manny, beacuse He Man.
COMMANDER GREE Introduced in Revenge fo the Sith, as being decapitated by Yoda. While in the extended universe, he's named after animals... The term "Gree", English Obsolete, refers to either "One of a flight of steps" or "one of a stage of ranks". Dude literally got the name "Rank".
COMMANDER BACARA Introduced in Revenge of the Sith, for firing upon Kit-Mun-Di. Bacara is Romanian for Baccara, which in turn refers to Baccarat, a card game. Absolutely nobody knows where the word came from originally.
COMMANDER PONDS Retroactively intorduced in Attack of the Clones, as the Clone Commander who greets General Windu. It... It just means Pond, but pural. It probably refers to the fact that Kamino is an Ocean, and the earth's oceans are sometimes refered to as ponds in slang.
COMMANDER NEYO Revenge of the Sith. It probably is meant to mean "Neo", which means New or Young, in Ancient Greek.
COMMANDER APPO Revenge of the Sith; Marched on the Temple. Does not, in fact, outrank Rex despite himself. Appo is an obsolete english Prepostion, referring to an object as "Before", "After", "Behind" or "nearby". It derives from Latin, "Apud", which means "in the presence of" or "among" (AMOGUS?)
COMMANDER THORN Named after Thor, from Marvel. There's even an old english letter called Thorn.
COMMANDO GREGOR The name Gregor, means "Watchful" or "alert". Which, given his character, is quite ironic.
CAPTAIN HOWZER I am unable to find that name specifically, but I theorize its based off of "Howitzer", which is a firearm cannon There is a lot more clones, and I can't make a post of every one of them. But lemme know if you want me to find anyone else.

That is so fucking Cool.
Tumblr media
Kix is one of my all time favorite clones, so imagine my surprise when I've stumbled upon this post -> [LINK] <- by @warsamongthestars theorizing that Kix's name does not have a cutesy origin, as most of the fandom believe... that Kix is not named named after cookies, a certain cereal brand nor kick-starting people back to life... but being named after a poisonous plant - Hemlock - which apparently was named Kex in old English... with Kix being the alternative spelling.
So now, I can't help but imagine Kix as a self-taught herbalist who brews space!mint tea for troopers with tummy-aches but can also assassinate a separatist spy with some obscure, highly poisonous, untraceable plant.

What made the TCWshow Bad Batch stand out to me initially, was their status as the Odd ones out. Meself being someone who's always been the odd one out, even in a group of odd ones out, that spoke to me.
When I contemplated them, on an analysis level, there was even more to discover.
They stand in defiance of the "Five-Man-Band" trope. There's no real "lead character" (yes Hunter is designated a Leader, but on a character level, he's not the lead character--because there is no lead character in the Batch).
They each serve as each others compliment and contrast. THe Smart Guy and the Strong Guy aren't some hangers on to the Lead, the Contraster and the Complimenter--they all do that for each other.
If anything... and I know this is probably going to either confuse you or make the lightbulb go off...
But by character construction and narrative value?
Echo is actually the lead character of the Bad Batch.
He's a regular clone, and the Batch are meant to contrast the regular clones, and it'd make sense, that through Echo, we find that each Batcher is both a Contrast and a Complimenter.
He's a strategist that gets along with everyone, who holds the ideals and values of clone troopers seen throughout the Clone Wars, who's been one of the audience surrogates, and has a citable backstory seen on screen... and for our fans, he's got tragic and traumatic events for all your fanficy needs.
By all accounts, Echo is is the "Hero" trope for the Bad Batch group.
And how you'd get a proper Bad Batch Show, is by having Echo as the POV, who adventures with the Bad Batch, and explores the various dynamics--both between them and himself... and then eventually meeting the challenges of those strengths (and weaknesses), when the Order comes down and the Empire rises.

I'm not gonna lie.
I find it really weird that, Disney is going all so out on the Bad Batch and how "oh its deep" or "oh its sad" or "look at all this work we did".
Look.
The Voice Actors? Yeah, they did great, they did do well, they are a joy to listen to. The artists and animators? Them too, I do so love how the art flows in the Bad Batch and how if you look closely enough, it kinda looks like everything was painted.
...
But dudes.
The story and writing Sucked.
It blew chunks. In fact, it chewed up the Clone Wars, and fucking vomited, and then attempted to arrange the vomit like "Look at well it did, look how deep!"
I've found puddles on paved roads that were deeper than this show. Watching the little snails come out in the rain, with all their little shells, and the tinkling of the raindrops and the smell of petrichor, was a more meaningful experience in a day of rain, than what this show did in 3 years.
I'm happy, that our VAs developed a meaningful tie to the work they do and the people they did it with.
But I can't help but think like I did with the Star Wars Sequels--look at all that work, all these artists and actors did... that went to waste, because this story was Shit, and was Clusmy, and was very shiny and dramatic but it did jack shit.
No Substance.
And I can't help but think, "Wow, really nailing down how much of a waste this was. Yeah, there was talent, congrats, but look how much of it went to waste because this Writing Was Shit. Because the music Editing was Shit, because a million and one little things came up and bit this show on the Ass, and became One Major Fucking Problem That Over Takes Everything."
I honestly would rather see what the story was through the eyes of Dee Bradly Baker and Michelle Ang, because the story they must've worked on Must have been Fantastic, for the fact those actors have been more authentic in interview and in person, than the characters They Played and the Story We Saw.
Baker on his own could portray a Bad Batch that I wanted to Fucking See In THE FIRST PLACE AS A GODS DAMN SHOW.
And I know he's damn good because THE CLONE WARS FEATURED NOTHING BUT HIM AS THE CLONES AND THEY WERE FUCKING FANTASTIC.
And I'm certain that Michelle Ang would've been just as fantastic too.
But it all comes down to the Writing. If you're writing is bad, it takes Everything Down with it.
And the writing is bad. And frankly all these Melancholic Interviews are just serving to piss me off...
Because we're saying Good Bye to a Story, We never fucking received.

I'm working on the full set, because I want to do this step by step. So any analysis here is just a small cut of stuff I'm working on in the background.
But there comes a certain point in a user's life where they're so overcome with unbelievable simmering rage, that they have to post upon the internet about it. Because that is what you do, when you are overcome with simmering rage, and a laptop has decided to nest nearby, on its natural habitat--a desk, and it hasn't flapped south for the winter yet.
The biggest failing of the TBBshow, but the greatest strength in TCWshow, when it comes to the Bad Batch, is the Character dynamics.
Its how the characters interact. How they balance, contrast and parallel; both visually, aesthetically, ability-wise, personality wise, and relationship wise.
For example; visually--you've got Tech's professional slicked back hair and sciencey get up, to Hunter's rough and wild and unkempt everything.
Personality example--Crosshair's pride and surety in all things and unshakeable quiet confidence, next to Wrecker's excitability, anxiety, and wears-his-heart-on-his-pauldron.
Aesthetically? Tech's rather unique and fanciful armor (its bright white, its not vacuum capable thanks to where his goggles are at) to Crosshair's more severe, job specific armor (His helmet does not have red paint to avoid catching attention to it as he's a sniper, has a rather painful rod on his shoulder for a mount).
And that's just contrasts.
The Bad Batch are unique in the clone army, because they have their own space that nobody messes with. The Havoc Marauder. And its both their base and their home.
They have their own unique armor, tailored to their strengths, and no other clone has that.
In a way, they're both the outcasts for not being standard clones, but also the Brats of the army for having things that other clones don't--and kinda rubbing it in people's faces.
( What, you think Crosshair was the only one? He's just the one that's loud about it, check the other's behavior. )
So you can imagine why my little coal-fire in my chest, is simmering slowly to a blaze, when I see things that say "Oh the BBs lost their ship and left behind their armor as a symbol for moving on--"
Folks, last I checked, I didn't need to blow up my childhood house and burn all my important things, to move on from childhood. Or from any stage in my life, for that matter.
I certainly didn't need to abandon all my favorite, still fitting, cloths. Especially if they were designed to emphasize my strengths.
Or perhaps, I see things like "But now they can choose what they want to be--"
I'm gonna give you a secret, they've already been doing that. Go back to TCWshow, they have been doing that since the beginning--literally nothing changed expect there's a kid, and an empire.
No.
What it was, was the total decimation of character dynamics.
Because The TCWshow's BB's greatest strength was their strength of character, and the foils and contrasts and interactions, between those four characters. That's what I saw in TCWshow, that's what I came to TBBshow to see.
I wanted to see more. I wanted to see how these characters would interact on their own, to a greater galaxy. Its basically just four dudes doing shenanigans, and that's not hard to write.
And in TBB episode 1, and for 2 years afterwards, they kept Crosshair removed and we never saw those dynamics again. They killed Tech, and then those dynamics were impossible to ever seen on screen again.
It spent 3 years, very much destroying something beautiful they had. I spent 2 years in painful hope, that they would get back those dynamics, and frankly I feel strung along. It isn't just Tech's not-revival, its All of The Show. It started with Crosshair, and it never Ended.
That, has been my biggest issue. There is no "Oh they can move on now"--They could've just up and abandoned the Republic at any time, y'know, they're a special operations unit with their own ship and their own abilities and their own armor, and they could've easily just taken off and done whatever they wanted.
And you can't tell me anyone would go after them, because nobody knew who the hell they were. Even in the cut-content from the Old TCWshow BB story, nobody still knew who they were expect Cody and maybe a small reputation.
If Gregor, a full on Commando, can just up and vanish as a dish washer for a while, so can the super special awesome squad.
There is no metaphor here, we were straight up robbed, and the heist started at episode 1.

Comic Con 2023
seems like a good time to bring this back
Transcript (as best as I can hear):
Person in audience: [beginning of sentence is missing] One last message from Tech
DBB (as Tech): Well... A soldier's life is fulfilled, by fulfilling the mission and supporting his brothers. And this was the end of mine. And that's a good thing.

Having been re-introduced to the concept, and finding that it is a real literary criticism...
I shall use it a media-criticism, cos its the same thing.
The reason the Bad Batch Story pisses me off, is because its an Idiot Plot. They turned the good boys of TCWs into idiots, in order to make their contrivance work.

MORE TBB + CT HCS!
Tumblr media
Since I didn't chase anyone off the first time, how bout some more? This round isn't nearly a storied as last round.
THE BAD BATCH did not grow up with each other. I know, counter to a lot of HCs. Each BB had a batchsquad that they were given back to (with flagged profiles about being apart of the 99 project--DO NOT DECOMMISSION), and thus, had an original regular clone trooper batch-squad at one point. This is where they got their names and social experience. WRECKER was a apart of KILO SQUAD. His Batchmates, were Chopper (who was later assigned under Sergeant Slick; TCWs), Boomer (Also known as Clone-Sergeant 2207; 501st; TCWs), Basher (the only CT out of the unit to make it into the Empire Era; SW Detours), and Hardcase (who lost his life during the Umbara Campaign; TCWs). Kilo squad were known to be happy-go-lucky destroyers of the training rooms. HUNTER was a part of ETA SQUAD. Three confirmed members of ETA Squad were, Tracker (212th; apart of the Dark Disciple series), Trapper (212th, formerly 91st--saw the battle of Ryloth, and the Zilo Beast incident; TCWs), and Hound (Coruscant Guard, Mastif Handler; TCWs) CROSSHAIR was apart of OMICRON SQUAD. With Hawkeye (91st, died during the Zilo Beast incident; TCWs), Longshot (212th, died during the Lola Sayu Mission; TCWs), Scope (104th; SW:CWA) and Sinker, of the 104th Wolfpack. TECH was apart of a soft-shell tech squad, with two confirmed members--Switch (CP-6824; SW:CW:RH) and Chatter (501st; radiotech).
Unfortunately, thanks to an incident that occurred to CT-9905 (a 99 projector (and original character)), Four of the Six / Seven of the 99-Project clones were finally gathered to be a team. ( CT-9905's fate is unknown. ) ( CT-9902 would be regulated as a Kaminonian Assistant. ) ( CC-9900, the "proof of concept" 99er, whose regeneration abilities served as the genetic-patch to prevent further clones from over-aging in their growth tubes--was already apart of the Republic Commando training, and would not be joining any other 99er. ) The original squads would be broken up and either sent out alone to other legions, or would be assigned to different squads.
HUNTER'S ELECTROMAGNETIC SENSES allows him to know when something has a static charge. So rub against a carpet, and he'll just know you have the charge. He describes it as if the feel of the air became spicy. Basically, he's a living voltage detector. Could probably tell you when your battery is dead.
WRECKER'S BONES are unbreakable. This isn't actually a form of mutation, but a form of later-life augmentation. That same later life augmentation staved his life when a bomb or charge went off near his face, and instead of pulverizing his skull (and thus his brain), it only pulverized the closest soft tissues--like his eye and inner ear.
WRECKER'S ENHANCEMENT allows him to have flexible muscle mass; allowing him to pick up and move objects without prep work, and to with stand any aftermath soreness. Thanks to the later-life augmentation, he has the strongest back in human existence. Unfortunately, a side effect of this is weaker organs, and a weaker heart. His enormous muscle growth has resulted in at least one near full organic transplantation, due to the muscle growing too fast for the organs to keep up. The abnormal strength of the muscle, thanks to be spliced with other-than-human genetics, is also what required the later-life bone augmentation, or risk his very muscles crushing his bones by movement alone.
Wrecker does not remember much of his childhood, due to the sheer growth pains from his enhancements.
TECH suffers from severe nearsightedness, and its been suggested, that as he's been spliced with Kamoninan genetics in order to ensure a "computational brain", that his eyes are more suited to underwater environments. Funnily enough, he does actually see in the water better. Not great, but better.
TECH, having been spliced with Kamoninan Genetics (whom are primarily amphibious), did have a vestigial-tadpole tail in his infancy. It went away as he got older... but he does occasionally have " Nonexistent-tail wiggles" when particularly excited, as a left over response--he finds them quite unprofessional and embaressing, but sometimes, one just gots to wiggle in place to get all that energy out.
Thanks to the Genetic splicing, Crosshair was actually born blind, with his eyelids semi-permanently shut (Not unlike a baby bird). They would open over the course of his first month; but this shows that not only does he have powerful eyes--he has powerful eyelids to compensate for those eyes. Its theorized that, if he had normal human eyelids, he would've seen through them.
The AlphaGens, or the famous 100, were the first clones in existence. They were the proof of concept, the Sparten-2's to the regular clones' Sparten-3, with minor enhancements and power armor--but also with the first severe issues that would come along during the Kaminonian's cloning. 99 was the final "successful" AlphaGen, whose gene-glitch aged him drastically in his growth tude, and whose problem would later be "patched out" with later clones, with the 99 project. ( Most Gene-patch projects were usually named after an AlphaGen's number; for example, there was the failed 17-Project, which attempted to gene-patch out premature white hair--did so with no success, and actually introduced Auburn and Blond Hair into clone troopers, as well as the additional problem of premature balding. ) ( Or the gene-patch project, 24-Project, that attempted to patch out Blue eyes--which catastrophically failed and resulted in blindness. ) 99 Himself, who was aware of the project being based from him, kept an eye out for all the "99ers", in what little ways he could. It is a well known AlphaGen trait, after all, to adopt BetaGen or Regular Clone Troopers. For example; for a young Wrecker, with uncontrollable strength, and great terrible growth pains, he left a small "tooka" doll made from baby cloths and what little fluff he could find. 99 would not officially meet a 99 Team, until after the loss of 9905.
99 himself, as the AlphaGen of Maintenance, knew of the secret places undernearth the Kaminonian Cities. He often worked around where CT-9902 did And he knew of the canceled OmegaGen clones project.
THE OMEGA GENERATION Cloned from a different prime, Arla Fett, the OmegaGen project was an attempt to create force-sensitive clones through "natural incubation" in order to "garden" the growth of midi-chlorians in a clone. Only two surviving clones were the result of the OmegaGen project--Omega-01, who was born via designated incubator (Heavily implied to have been the OmegaGen Prime), and Omega-02, who was the result of the Kaminonian typical method of cloning... and deemed a failure due to lack of midi-chlorian count. The project was deemed a success--but the expense and the time taken to make OmegaGen clones was deemed unacceptable, and the project was canceled after the first successes.
