YET.
Realization: we could totally do an OA campaign with Collective members ( @we-are-monk , @we-are-ninja , @we-are-samurai , @we-are-shaman ), though it is rather sad that we don't have a Shugenja or Wu Jen.

Hey all,
As above, please read and then, please join us! ⛩️
A New Path for the Collective Public Discord
Having existed since 2018, the discord server has gone through a variety of phases and purposes. It has come to the point where in our growth we have developed beyond the original intention of an attachment of the tumblr presence. The question has been asked of whether the server and it's members are served well by the current attachment, and a referrendum of our server members has decided with overwhelming majority that is it time for us to fly the nest and strike out on our own. we will not be removing the collective fully from us - the collective was our origin and home and the origin of everything we have built, but is it my opinion that it is time for us to spread our wings and become something in our own right.
We hold no ill will to the Collective, and we’re grateful for all our experiences there as our foundation for this, and for the friendships we made through it. However, numbers wise, we see some distinction as our discord server has grown in community beyond what isolated tumblr blogs could. For the creative freedom and community of us and our server members, we will be severing official ties to the Collective, in the spirit of freeing our own creative decisions to grow our space going forwards. The server will not be removing our collective members, nor will it become an unwelcome space for those of you who have joined us or will join us - it will simply be becoming a space of it's own, tied to nothing but itself. This will be a long proccess and I do not expect it to happen overnight - however, if you'd like to come and be a part of what we are building, please do feel free to join us; https://discord.gg/4fFsP5TUwr
I hope to see you all there :)
Thank you!
Jon

🥋 BUSHIDO: The Way of the Warrior | Samurai Code FULL AudioBook - The So...
Note from the Samurai: This book is very dated and full of romantic ideas of samurai that no longer hold water, but it is a very interesting book as it helped popularise the image of samurai in the Western world. I consider ‘reading’ it critically very helpful.

Fortunately, you can obtain your own!
As the Samurai is also the Knight of @we-are-knight , I have a bias toward weapons of a length greater than a standard katana, so I have been loving this sword so far. The length is more familiar to a longsword (if actually longer than my longswords), and extremely light for what it is. The flex is incredible for full contact fighting, too.
Since I started my fencing career with Kendo, it's been a dream of mine to use a nodachi, and might have been part of my reason for taking up the longsword. Now I have my own, and I am ✨thrilled✨.

Historically, were there ways for dishonored samurai to restore their honor without committing seppuku?
Depending on time and place, yes.
During the Edo period, when most wars were done with, and the romanticism of the samurai class really set in based in nostalgia for a glorious age of warriors and warfare that the samurai no longer had a role in, seppuku served a social role through codifying an idea of honour or respect to one's superiors and social position. In many ways, this meant that during the peaceful Edo period, it was much harder to find alternative to seppuku if ordered to perform it.
In the earlier periods such as the Muromachi period or the Sengoku, with a demand for warriors of the upper class who came well equipped and trained, seppuku was generally not as common outside of personal pursuit. This is not to say that samurai did not get condemned to commit seppuku in these periods, only that it was not as rigid as it would be in the later periods.
This is somewhat aided by the Muromachi and Sengoku eras having such a need for trained warriors, that a samurai that felt slighted by a former lord could well end up applying to work as the warrior of an enemy, as a way of removing any shame on themselves. Naturally, this has been considered shifty as a manoeuvre, but this would not stop it occurring if the samurai involved felt they had a better chance at decent treatment by another lord. Similarly, as the samurai class were an elite warrior group, there is emphasis placed on feats of arms, such that one shame could be removing by performing a great deed in battle or combat.
