I saw a post here about a specific Czech movie that got released recently (well... in 2014) and I wanted to reblog it, but there were too many GIFs so my computer crashed X) Instead I'll make my own GIF-free: so the original post was all about how this musical movie was not great... except for the Wolf of the Little Red Riding Hood segment, which was a giant puppet which, I quote, seemed straight out of a Jim Henderson production.
The movie in question is "Three Brothers" (Tři bratři), a fantasy musical for children about, as you guessed it, three brothers undergoing their own journeys throughout a fairytale world to find love, and each becoming involved in a different fairytale: the first in Sleeping Beauty, the second in Little Red Riding Hood, the third in a traditonal Czech fairytale known as Dvanáct měsíčků, "Twelve Little Months" (thanks to @fairytaleslive for the translation, I suggest you check out their reblog about the context and creation of the movie here)
Here are various pictures from this movie (including the famed Wolf puppet, and I'm cheating a bit by including pictures of a display of it at... Prague I think?):

Remember this Czech movie I talked about before? With the weird-cool-looking Wolf puppet? Well it seems I found the concept art for it... Well a concept art for the puppet - the other is I believe an illustration for the book adaptation of the movie (because yes, the movie got adapted as an illustrated book apparently)
It comes from this blogpost.
As for the illustrated book adaptation here are two pictures linked to it:

Paperhand, a local puppet theater troupe, is fundraising for their summer show! They're a non-profit and many of their artists are volunteers.
They do it all: crafting puppets and props, building sets, writing music, and assembling a live orchestra to accompany their performances. You can learn about them on their website, paperhandpuppet.org.
If you'll be in the area in the summer, you can buy a ticket for the show through their Kickstarter!

Coffee Hour
NATIONAL DAY OF PUPPETRY, 04/22/2023
I don’t know if there is a difference between puppets and marionettes. I suspect one involves hands inside a doll or mechanism, while the other is controlled from strings above or sticks beneath (or behind). It doesn’t matter. I had several hand puppets that I used to entertain my kids while they were growing up, and I enjoyed telling stories with their help. What were your experiences with puppets? Did you like them, hate them, embrace them, or avoid them?
My Stunt Double du Jour shows off his terry-fying terrydactyl. I know. Pterrible pun.

Rare JTTW Puppet Play
I am proud to host a guest post by @ryin-silverfish about a rare JTTW puppet play from Quanzhou, Fujian province, China. The play is roughly from the Yuan to early-Ming period, meaning that it predates the 1592 edition of the novel. There are parallels with the finished work, pointing to a possible influence, or at the very least, they borrowed from the same source. But there are many differences as well. The most surprising for me are:
Sha Wujing is the one who transforms into a white horse.
Erlang becomes one of Tripitaka's disciples after being demoted for flirting with a heavenly maiden.
An example of modern Quanzhou string puppetry depicting a battle between Sun Wukong and Princess Iron Fan.

Disney Parks Animatronic Tournament: Bracket B/Tier 2 Round 2
Trolls: Maelstrom - Epcot Disney World (formerly)
Propaganda:
"I just liked Disney having a ride that's less cutey, where the troll threaten you and were kinda grotesque. Feels like a breath of fresh air."
(go to 1:58 for animatronic)
Abraham Lincoln: Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln - Disneyland
Propganda:
"The fact that Mr. Lincoln rises from sitting to standing and then sits back down again is astounding to me. Think of the number of muscles human beings use to do the same, then figure out how to do that with an animatronic! Not to mention the balance needed! There's got to be a reason that that's something Disney has very few of their animatronics do."
"He stands up! He sits down! So few animatronics do that sort of a thing. It's so cool!"
(go to 3:34 for animatronic)
