You will never live up to your ancestors.
There’s a moment, so quick and brief that it can be easily missed. Less one knew the echidna well enough to pick up on the subtle body language given by him. A difficult task given the painstaking levels he often went to hide them at times, any signs given were miniscule and hard to notice at times.
Only allowing the feelings — shoulders tensing and breath hitching — to stay for a nanosecond. Letting them pass as quickly as they came. Steeling and composing himself, not letting those feelings overtake him. Expression hardening into a neutral one — almost to the point of being unreadable.
Wasn’t about to break. Wasn’t about to bend and cave in. Wasn’t about to show any weakness. Not so easily. Stand strong, stand firm, and stand tall. No way was he going to be fractured by those words. Not now and not ever.
“I don’t INTEND to just live up to my Ancestors — “
Tumblr media
“ — I INTEND to do better. BE BETTER. I might be proud of my heritage...proud of my kin ‘n what they achieved to a point...but even I can admit they ‘ad their faults ‘n their flaws.”
A sigh escapes past Knuckles lips. There was plenty to be proud of — never ashamed of the blood that flowed through his veins, even with some of the darker aspects of the past. He wasn’t about to pretend to not see or be blind to it. Some of what his ancestors did — it did not sit well with him.
“I intend to keep their memory — for better ‘r worse — alive. I won’t let my culture die just ‘cause of the bad, there was good things too. Those deserve t’be preserved ‘n kept, not fade into obscurity.”
Tumblr media
“ — I’ll make ‘em proud by protectin’ this world ‘n all who call it ‘ome; by guardin’ ‘n protectin’ the Master Emerald. So that everyone can live peaceful, free, ‘n happy lives. That’s ‘OW I intend to live up to them.”

K so apparently some people on Twitter got upset that people saw Future Growth as romantic.
Here's the thing: an analysis of both Espio and Silver's characters and their interactions will tell you why people don't view it as platonic and see it romantic instead.
I'm going to be specifically discussing IDW and game canon here, as the two are intertwined (with the games up to Forces being canon to the IDW comics).
I did multiple analyses on these two goofballs on an old blog. Espio is NEVER that open. He's only ever opened up to Silver, at least to the extent he did in Future Growth.
It's also worth mentioning how in tune with Silver's emotions Espio is compared to everyone else.
Tumblr media
Literally how the hell is Espio the only one who noticed something was off about Silver’s behavior and mood
You'd think with how often Silver and Sonic cross paths Sonic would take notice of Silver's emotional state, I mean, look at his expression in the second panel. Nobody but Espio noticed something was off about Silver. As far as we know, Espio doesn't really spend a ton of time around Silver, and he definitely isn't around him as much as Sonic or Amy.
It's ALSO worth noting that Espilver originated from Sonic Rivals 2. Espio didn't hesitate to help Silver. He will hesitate if he's weary of one of Vector's plans. And even if you just look at how Espio behaved at the end of Sonic Rivals 2, he is never nervous. But explaining what Silver was doing? He just ignores Vector after a certain point.
The reason Future Growth came off as romantic to people is because it's the first time Espio is seen really opening up, and it's to Silver. Not Vector, who (along with Charmy) he's closest to. Silver.
Also, Silver (from my memory) hasn't hugged anyone besides Espio, and Espio would probably stab anyone else who tries to hug him (although to be fair Silver did catch him off guard lol. Still, Espio was messing with a kunai literally right before that and probably could’ve stabbed him if he wanted to).
Even outside of that, with their past interactions, of course it's not gonna be viewed as platonic. He and Espio were good friends and had built up a pretty good relationship in Rivals 2.
Basically, if you're like "why are people viewing this as romantic????" you should go back and look at how they’ve interacted in the past. How Espio acts when Vector asks him about Silver at the end of Sonic Rivals 2 comes off as a parent prying you for information on a crush (and I do think this is exactly what that was given the fact that Espio could’ve literally just explained Silver’s motives and Vector probably would’ve accepted it lol). How they interact prior to Future Growth can come off as romantic or a crush. Hell, this angsty wattpad lookin thing exists.
Tumblr media
For context, here’s the full cover that’s from:
Tumblr media
They never went on a mission together in the Zombot Arc, which is where that image comes from. However, Silver did work with Whisper. Why is this worth bringing up? Espio worked alone, Cream and Gemerl worked together, Rouge and Metal Sonic were just there, Tails and Amy worked together, and Knuckles stayed on Angel Island to watch the Master Emerald. Not to mention how much the Espio and Silver thing looks like a fucking Wattpad cover compared to the other ones??? Anyway, it’d make more sense for Espio to be the lone one and Whisper to be on the same panel(?) as Silver, but they didn’t do that.
I don’t think any of what has been done with Espio and Silver was done just to show that they’re friends. It genuinely feels like there are subtle hints at something more between these two, even down to the (really subtle??) implication that Silver’s gonna stay in the present and chill with Team Chaotix my explanation for which you can find here).
Without context, yeah, I can completely understand why you might question why people see Future Growth as romantic. But when you look at how they act with each other prior to that, it does start to make sense.
The IDW angsty Wattpad fanfiction cover is weird. At that point in the comics, Espio and Silver hadn’t even interacted much, and since they’d never gone on a mission together as a pair, it doesn’t make sense why they’d be paired off like that.
Espio’s behavior at the end of Sonic Rivals 2 is weird. He never tiptoes around questions that should be easy to answer like that.
Espio opening up to Silver specifically, while not necessarily weird, is quite telling.
I’m not saying Espilver is canon. However I am saying there’s like zero explanation for why they’re always paired together if Blaze isn’t around (in which case Silver is paired with Blaze instead of Espio. I view that as different because I think Blaze views Silver more as a little brother than anything, and they’ve also spent more time together visibly compared to Espio and Silver).
So basically, if you think it’s weird that people view Future Growth as romantic, there are more hints at Espio and Silver liking each other romantically than you think.

Oh Anon, thanks for the request. I should have waited, but it is a theme that I feel particularly close to now. Obviously, I don't pretend that this meets everyone's sensitivity, but I hope you like it.
Warning: we talk about death and mourning, angst / comfort with Leona

63- Twisted Wonderland, Leona Kingscholar x Reader
“Up on the stars “
That day of the year always comes. It doesn't matter how hard you try to forget it, or to continue your daily life as if nothing had happened. A little cricket in your head would always make you feel that weight in the back of your heart, and today it's the same.
Even if your everyday life has completely changed since you arrived at that school, even if it's all new and all strange to you, the feelings familiar to you have not been buried in your fantasies, unfortunately for you.
You really tried not to focus on that fact, but at the same time the suffering was all you had left.
It was the day of farewells, the day you finally realized how much loss must have frightened you. And today, despite being so far away, the knowledge that no matter how far you have traveled, you could have traveled a thousand worlds, but you could never see their smile again.
Under the transparent roof of the greenhouse, you are alone with yourself. Maybe you shouldn't stay like that, in the loneliness of the night, but it's like you feel out of place among people who you are not sure have the patience to bear your weight.
Your legs tighten to your chest in a feeble attempt to erase the loneliness, to feel at least a little the warmth of someone, of the embrace of those very loving arms towards you.
It's horrible when time takes a beloved voice out of your mind, and you try to remember the tone of it, their whisper and their laugh, but time and pain distort it. And you want to hear it again, to remember it, but you know you can never do it again.
What would you not give to do even one last thing with them? One last walk, one last tea with biscuits shared together, one last movie on the sofa, or even just a last greeting, anything that can transform that "farewell" into a "goodbye".
Affection survives death and turns pain into sweet memories over time, but despite everything it's still too early for you, and that sweet bond that binds you to them for you is just a thread dropped on the horizon, with no one to support him on the other side.
"What are you doing here, herbivore?"
A low but rough voice gives you a shiver down your spine. You don't really know what your stomach turmoil is causing, whether it's being discovered or simply because the pain continues to remain dull and heavy.
Leona's green eyes seem to glow in the night, just like those of felines, and they narrow on you in an act of concentration as she watches you.
"Why are you crying?"
He doesn't mince words, nor does he have sweetness in his voice, but you know him well enough by now to know that it's already kindness of him not to have roared at you to leave him alone.
"I ..." Your voice chokes in your throat. What words could you use? What could your feelings tell you?
Soon his back was turned to you. No wonder he wants to leave, he is not someone who insists or forces. It is the most logical thing to do to leave if you are there to be alone.
Yet, perhaps thanks to the darkness, it does not seem to you that he is just leaving. For a moment he disappears before your eyes. For a moment you imagine the void in his place, a huge void that you will never be able to fill.
"Leona!"
Your anguished voice makes him whirl around. The pain is so evident that not even the hardness of his heart can hide the worry.
He is not immediately by your side, he does not pull you into a warm and comforting embrace, he does not have sweet words of love for you. Yet his firm step approaches, and his gaze scrutinizes you from above.
"What's up?"
This time you can't help but answer his question. You have to tell him something, you have to. Not for him, but for you, you have to say something so that he doesn't leave. You don't want to say goodbye yet, you don't want to be left alone in the cold of the night, you don't want to endure it all alone.
"Today, some time ago, in the other world, a person dear to me died." Your voice came out clear, more than you expected, one last exhalation before the lump in your throat becomes present again.
It hurt to say those words, but with him you wanted to be honest, direct, just like him.
For a moment the silence spreads in the greenhouse, and you almost think you are wrong, to be alone again without you noticing it, but a rustle at your side gives you comfort.
The prince is now sitting next to you, his tail floats lightly behind your back and you can feel the warmth of his body. You always imagined that he was hot, like sand in the rays of the sun.
"How bad does it hurt?"
His question surprises you, but that painful tremor running through your bones is too massive for you to think about.
"As if a piece of my body had been ripped off."
Cruel, bloody, yet it was the most truthful thing. Part of you died that day. It didn't survive, a part of you disappeared and was buried with them. Life goes on, they told you, but you knew it wasn't quite true. Your life went on, but it was only a part of your life, that little part of your journey stopped there, in front of a tombstone. A tombstone that you cannot reach, as far as you are.
"It's normal, almost logical." Leona's response is not charitable, yet you feel it almost gentle, uttered in that low tone. He's not looking at you, his weight is resting on his palms firmly anchored to the ground behind him, and his eyes wander into the sky, beyond the glass surface of the greenhouse.
You don't really care that he pays attention to you, while he's there it means so much to you.
"Hey Herbivore ..." His voice resounds after a few minutes of silence, and despite the disregard of tone and nickname, there is a note unknown to you in it "you know ... it was once said that the great kings of the past look down on us from those stars. "
Your palm slides over your eyes to ward off tears and allow your pupils to reach his, lost in the sky.
"It's not just the great kings up there."
Suddenly, as if a bell had just tinkled next to your ear, the world - so different from yours - comes together, and you remember you are talking to Leona. He is certainly the person sitting next to you.
"Do you really believe this?" Your question is still broken and light, but now your gaze is only for him.
The lion returns it with a fleeting glance which, however, immediately flies up again, among unknown universes: "I never needed to do it."
Your gaze still insists on him, and he notices it, you understand it from that slight annoyed sigh that filters through his fangs: "Listen, I don't think anyone would ever bother to watch over me, but over you ..." The emerald green of his gaze warms you like a hearth "Who could ever stop being next to you?"
Those words pour out on you sweet and powerful alike. A new wave of tears threatens to flow but you don't have time for them, too caught off guard, too enchanted by something so tender and new.
It is not the words, it is that he said them, that suddenly make you feel weak and strong at the same time.
"Leona ..." You would like to talk again, but an extremely familiar touch touches your arm.
It's a fleeting touch, but warm and affectionate, a touch you have long wanted to feel again.
You turn around to meet their loving fingers, but all you see is the lion's tail moving slowly in the darkness. It's not a disappointment for you though.
You are not disappointed even when you notice something known in Leona, something so loved and sought after that for a moment you almost believe that they are really there, in front of you.
They and Leona have nothing to do with each other, they could not even have imagined his existence. Yet the affection for you that navigates his gaze at this moment is the same as they had.
Suddenly you realize that perhaps Leona is right. Maybe they are the only person in your world able to be next to you, placing a little of their love for you in the hearts of those around you.
Slowly you let your eyelids drop as your body bends down. Your head rests in Leona's lap, and he doesn't do anything to push you away.
He does not give you sweet caresses, nor reassure you of his presence, but his tail rests silently on your side, in sweet security.

Shotguns or any other guns weren't effective against the infected of the virus at all but it was effective chopping of their heads , interrupting nerves going to the infected brain and wich was controlling everything , the virus was going for the nerve system and the only way was like mentioned before cutting it's control off. But wich wasn't easy due to its good control of the never system the change of getting bitten was higher and you and Sam couldn't afford getting bitten . A friend of your who was bitten cutter of the bitten part . Their arm. stopping the infection , wich was the only way but the chance of surviving it aren't high due to the high blood pressure the virus gives the body . You looked over at Sam who was looking at his axe sharpening it the wrong way unsharpening it but he seemed calmed . He stopped and dropped the stone looking at his hand blood was dripping down a "oh shit " escaped your mouth before you heard the grunting and moan screaming behind you. those fucks were able to find you so quickly? How ? If their noses are that good surviving is going to be even harder but no time left Sam grabbed you in bridal style picked up few weapons and sprinted away leaving the food behind . "Sam th-" "shhh its okay I know how to hunt" and he continued sprinting until Sam stopped and sat you down "we should be far enough " he said out of breath and sat down next to you " Sam you didn't need to car-" you were interrupted " but i wanted to " he said "bu-" "no but" "but why did you do that ?" You said it really quickly so he didn't had the time interrupting you and he understood everything "i idk i just didn't want you to be in danger and die , i need you . Alive" he confessed an awww escaped your mouth and an blush creeped behind his mask making you giggle "it's not funny , you're important " he said volume rising slightly , "naww someone likes someone " his blush darkened "com'on shut up " "make me" he threw his mask away and crashed his lips onto yours catching you off guard . Tumblr media
C!Foolishg
Foolish was working on one of his new building Projekts in His human form when he heard grunting ,groaning and heavy breathing coming closer he turned around and was met with a horse of zombie but not the normal type those were faster and seemed to be smarter some held things that can be used as weapons but before observing more one of them attacked him but he was able to dogde and sprinted to where you were after reaching your home he broke in the door and panted "everything okay foolish ?" You asked and he shook his head no . " a horde of Zombies came to me and they were coming from the direction where .....the others are . " His face looked terrified and sad " they can't be dead we need to check on them" you said and he nodded grabbing your hand "close your eyes " he said and with a loud bang you stood infront of the prison wich was half destroyed . Sam was fighting some of the infected his chestplate broke as he took another hit . You and foolish ran to him , stabbed the zombies and burned them killed the virus controlling their muscles and nerves. one of them tried attacking you from behind but foolish quickly killed it "those things are really clever " Sam said while taking a healing potion . "If you both would have come a minute later i would end up like the others who stayed here" he said and took his extra iron chest plate out of his inventory and then looked at foolish the down at your hand chuckling , then you felt pressure on you hand and looked down .foolish was holding your hand "naww you both are so cute"Sam said and behind and your partner blushed that's when you noticed . He didn't wore his mask and emerald green eyes were looking into yours . But the sweet moment was interrupted by an explosion and a Wilbur walking out of the smoke " you guys are the only alive things around here " he said and stood next to Sam TNT still in his hand "we need to find a safe shelter is there anything that isn't detroyed? " Foolish asked while looking around eyeing the ruins of the once intact buildings " i don't think so but we can build one " wilbur said while showing a stack of obsidian "where did you get these ?" You asked because it wasn't natural for a Wilbur to have interest in blast resistant blocks like obsidian " idk found them in a chest and yeah thought would be good taking them with me " he said while shrugging with his shoulders " hm anyways we should start going I'm sure more things are infected and on Their way to us " foolish sounded worried and frightened but there wasn't time to think. The group headed towards east maybe we are safe there you thought and grabbed foolish hand making him smile and look down to you
Tumblr media
C!dream
" dream please slow down " you were out of breath since 2 hours you've been running behind your boyfriend who wanted to get as far as possible away from the plague or "zombie apocalypse" how he called it . He didn't even took one break from running and you wondered , how can he have that much stamina ? Finally he stopped and you were able to stop too and fell to the ground , before hitting it his arms catched you and he let out an laughter before sitting down with you . " Maybe we should take a break " he said and pulled you in his lap and layed his head onto your shoulder "yeah I need definitely a break " you said and took off his mask . It didn't surprise him since you're always taking it off because it's " more comfortable" cuddling without it but he knows that you bust do it because you love his face . "Dream?" "Yes babe?" You sat up looked into his eyes and said nothing "you horny again ?" He joked and you shook your head " no but do you think the virus will be over soon?" " I hope so babe" he answered " but we need to get as far away as possible i don't want you to die like the others " he said his voice changed into a sad tone . You were there for him the whole time and never left his side he wouldn't be able to live without you he looked at you who was now playing with his mask he smiled , took his mask , Placed it on your face and stood up before picking you up " ik you can't run that's why I'm going to carry you to a safe place " clay started running again and you watched the sky through his mask . Suddenly dream stopped sat you down and shipped his axe " don't look behind you " he growled and sprinted away slashing and breaking of bones was heard and it suddenly stopped , a bumb was heard . you turned around seeing your dreamie on the ground trying to hold away one of the zombies . Suddenly anger formed and the want to kill them .You quickly sprinted towards them but tripped as one zombie suddenly came out of an bush attacking you but there was no time that can be wasted you quickly stapled it slashed its head of blood spilling onto dreams mask . You then ran towards the other zombie jumping at it and tossing it away from him sitting on it you pinned it's arm to the ground like Jesus arms were nailed the the wood and stabbed the hell out of it blood spilling everywhere and a shocked dream but he somehow thought of it as cute and sexy like you're jealous that the zombie was in top of him and not you . The thought pulled an chuckle from him " stop laughing or you're next " you threatened out of fun and walked to him helping him up " are you hurt?" You both asked the same time and laughted "yeah I am and you ?" " No I'm okay " " good ngl it was a bit sexy that you were jealous that the zombie was in top of me and not you " he said and you punched his shoulder playfully " i wasn't jealous !" "You were of else this mask wouldn't be completely red " he said and pointed at it " i was worried " " still looks like jealous to me " he joked and grabbed your hand " but it doesn't matter I still love you " and smiled

Well played Master Aaron, well played 🤦
On that note, this also gave me a little thought about our master wizards' staffs! This may already be obvious to many in the fandom but might as well dwell into it none the less.
This is about how the staffs aren't only are a great tool / extension for a wizard's magic but how it's appearances and capabilities also represent and reflect the wielder's creativity, personality and level of mastery of their Magic.
Let's being with Merlin Ambrosius:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
His staff if called the staff of Avalon. It's handle seems to share the same metal that made up most of Merlin's armor albeit in a darker shade and somewhat have matching intricate accents and pattern much like said armor along with it's respective handle and knuckle guard. On the very top, sits a fairly sized Emerald crystal which I think reflects his over-all image as a wizard. Emerald crystals represent intuition, great focus and enhanced foresight which we all know are one of Merlin's key traits. What makes Merlin's staff different from his pupils' is how he wields it. As a -for the lack of a better word- "by the book" kind of Wizard, Merlin cannot (perhaps to his preference) dematerialize his staff like Douxie's and cannot retract like Morgana's and is always seen carrying it physically resulting in minor hindrances similar to when he lost his staff to Gunmar in troll hunters and when he dropped it when the Arcane Order attacked Camelot and only got it back with the help of Arch. This shows that he does not have the capability to summon his staff at will. This implies it's either he designed his staff that way because he believes that he has no need of additional capabilities aside from it being a helpful tool in spell casting or that because of how he perceives magic and his life philosophy as a wizerd reflected how far he can "costumize" his staff. His staff also -in a way- reflects his methods of manifesting magic and that is from his key traits. Unlike emotion intuition, knowledge and keen foresight is a great substitute for magic. A wizard can also harvest power and energy from one's own intentions so long as they mean it and need it and this is perhaps where Merlin generated his magic from and I think we can agree that Merlin barely relied on emotions and instead direct his goal of using magic to his knowledge as a means to succeed in any given obstacle.
Next is Morgana le fay:
Tumblr media
Her staff is by far the easiest to decipher. Morgana's staff is called Skath Rhün. As you may have noticed, it's structure resembles that of dragon scales or a texture similar to one of stone. It has no crystal anywhere attached to it and is the only staff known to change its color depending on the wielder's emotions when using it as well as it's ability to conviniently retract at will . The reason to all these features is because of WHO Morgana is. Since Morgana was reintroduced to us in Wizards, we came to understand that Morgana cared for the troll kind and other magical creatures that Arthur had banished out of spite. She also had a natural talent for sorcery and spell casting along with the gift of shadowmancy which further solidifies her strong bond with magic. My personal take of why her staff does not bear a crystal is because of the kind of magic she gravitates to: shadowmancy. Crystals are supposed to represent a wizard's key values and traits in order to manifest magic. Morgana's key to manifesting magic, however is slightly different. Just like what Douxie had once said "magic IS emotion." This was brought up when he was teaching Clair how to use magic without the need of a staff and what magic was Douxie teaching Clair? shadowmancy. Meaning this kind of magic required much more than just ingredients and incantations. It requires emotions. Now how does this tie up to Morgan's lack of crystals on her staff? Because emotion is not a tangible trait. Unlike Merlin's key traits, emotions cannot be contained nor controlled. Only redirected; Emotions consume you, they pull the strings to which you cannot control. However, you can bend it to a direction where it benefits you (but not without cost). Intuition and the ability of foresight are traits that one developes overtime. Emotion is something that come with you the moment you are born which would corelate to why her staff changes color depending on the wielder's emotions. On another note, Morgana is not as different as Merlin in terms of carrying her staff. Unlike Merlin's her staff retracts at will and can be summoned with the encantation "azazazuth khenek thün" which proved to be convenient at times. But like Merlin's case it isn't as convinient given that not only did Morgana lose her staff at some point, Angor Rot and Clair did as well at times because it still retains a physical form.
And lastly Hisirdoux Casperan:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Douxie's staff is THE most unique one I have came across so far from the show🖤 where do I begin!? Okay to start, Hisirdoux's staff is called Spellcaster guitar (appropriately so) and appears to be made of black Iron as a handle with it's respective handle and knuckle guard (foreshadowing Merlin's staff?) along with sky- blue accents and a gold-ish plate on the top that closely resembles his eyes. He can dematerialize and rematerialize it from his magic cuff at will as well as transmute it as a guitar (hence it's name?) and within the hoop of the staff sits his respective crystal. I honestly had a hard time figuring out which cristal it was but then decided on it being a sapphire (You'll know why). Another key feature to his staff is it's ability to stand or levitate in of itself as well as it's ability to return to it's owner without the need of any sort of encantation. Douxie's staffmanship is indeed a very unique one at that and it rightfully reflects him as a whole character. Starting with the reason why I settled for sapphire as Douxie's respective crystal. It's because one: it looks close to what a Sapphire would look like and two: because it's meaning closely resembles himself and his key traits to generate his magic. The Sapphire symbolizes Psychic awareness, Insight, wisdom, Self-discipline and focus which perfectly portrayed Douxie's development for the past 900 years and in addition with the time jump incident. (the scene where Merlin instructed him to feel the stone that called for him was a momentous event for me since it works the same with ACTUAL Witchcraft. When we chose an item to represent our whole being to stand as our extensions for certain spells, we don't just pick in random, we feel which items felt the most compelling, and it goes the same to which crystals/gem stones we use in a craft. Here, Douxie did the same and might be as well for both Merlin and Morgana.) These key traits are what drives Douxie to manifest his magic; It's the core anchor to where he harvests his magic. The next is when his staff's transmutation as a guitar. This one is where I was very proud of him for. His master told him to channel himself to his staff and make it an extension of his own and transmuting it into a guitar was just beautiful! For me, the reason why he chose to turn his staff into a guitar of all things instead of it being an ACTUAL weapon is because he knows he doesn't have to follow the rules to win. He formed his own rules to benefit him in a particular situation with comfort and to give himself somewhat a form of incentive to maximize the efficiency of his performance. It's similar to how even if your sneakers are very worn out, they still provide you comfort and that's enough, compared to a new pair of shoes where you'd be a victim of blisters 😱. This alone proved that Douxie put Merlin's lessons to heart but at the same time utilizes his own creativity with it in order to make "unexpected possiblities". Sounds a lot like what Douxie would do no? Lastly, the feature where his staff materializes at will simply shows how advanced and we'll explored Douxie is with his magic, showing that Duxie's staff- stowing is far better and convinient compared to Merlin and Morgana's staff portability. In addition, it's unlikely that he'd lose his staff in a battle because it comes back to him like a boomerang. And all the better, it's feature to levitate whilst Douxie performs a spell adds to its convenience given that he performs spells mostly with the use of mudras and hand gestures. Over all, I love how his staff adapts to suit its owner's needs and it just makes Douxie and his staffmanship very fun to analyze!
And with this comes a conclusion: with how each wizard wield their staffs, it shows how
(Merlin): when one keeps themselves stagnant to a belief or practice and doesn't acknowledge it's evolution, they will surely remain in the dark, no matter how enlightened they may be.
(Morgana): it is not wrong to let emotions seep out. However, it is a sign of weakness when one allows it to manipulate them.
(Douxie): balance is key to succeed. Use the bones of ancient knowledge to build one's structure of growth whilst embracing the newness of innovation and evolution to the path to maturity!
And that's about it.... I hope I got my point through BUT! keep in mind that these are just the thoughts of what I personally think of them and their relation to each of their respective staffs but I hope you enjoy it.🖤

Huntmira Week Day 5/6/7: Masquerade/First Kiss/Favorite Headcanon
Intro
“Welcome one and all to the Emperor’s Coven celebration of the fast approaching day of unity! Emperor Bolos has graciously opened his home to all of you for a masquerade ball! Now come in and celebrate with us!”
Once the announcer's speech was over the gates to the Emperor’s Coven were open to the select few that had been invited to the ball. Only the most high tear residents of the Boiling Isles had been granted the honor of attending the event.
“Alright you three I want everyone to be on their best behavior, only the most elite were invited to this event so we should take advantage of this opportunity to make new connections.¨ said Odalia as she scanned the room for potential targets. ¨These masks will make things a bit more difficult but itś nothing we can't handle.¨
“You two know what you need to do right?” asked Odalia while holding on to her husband's arm to keep him from running off on his own. The man is a genius when it comes to inventing new products but he needs a bit of help when it comes to socializing. A skill that is essential to growing their business.
“Yes mother” responded the twins in unison giving her their best smiles.
“Good now go mingle” she said as she started pulling her husband along with her towards an unsuspecting group of potential clients.
While their younger sister was charged with testing and showing off Blight industry products the twins were tasked with being the faces of the company. They were meant to one day take over their mother's role as promoters of the family business. She knew that the twins were more than capable at speaking with clients and investors which is why she always kept them on the forefront during social events. They were naturally charismatic and had inherited her quick witts. One day they would be the ones running the company so it was important they build strong business relations.
Twins
“So what do you think?” asked Edric as he squinted in an attempt to survey the room. He needed glasses but he never wore them in front of others. The only times he used them was when he was home alone doing homework.
They were already drawing a lot of attention. Though this was intentional Odalia liked for all of them to stand out in these types of events. Making a lasting impression was good for business.
Emira was wearing a big beautiful off the shoulder golden gown with emerald detailings with her hair done up in a bun wearing a mask that matched her dress. Edric who was standing next to her was wearing a suit similar in design to his sisters with a matching mask.  Even in a room filled with extravagant attire the two still stood out.
“You heard what mother said we have to mingle. See anyone we know?” responded Emira while she scanned the faces of the people starting to make their way to them.
“Nope I can’t tell who anyone is with all these flamboyant outfits. Want to just hit the obdurves table?”
“Amity is lucky she didn't have to come. She gets to hang out with her girlfriend while we get to mingle with business partners” mumbled Emira to herself.
“I see you’re mad you don’t get to see your boyfriend today” said Edric without thinking. Emira had still not fully forgiven him for ruining the first time she and Hunter met outside the library. “I mean uh yeah today is when you would normally go meet up with Hunter right?” he added in a panicked tone. The look on Emira’s face made him regret bringing up the subject.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about. I’ve already told you we are just friends. Besides, we haven’t spoken since that day at the carnival.” noted Emira in a grim tone.
“I’m really sorry Em I really messed things up between you guys” apologized Edric feeling genuinely remorseful. Emira had helped him find a partner and he had ruined her relationship with the first boy she liked.
“Like I said there was never anything between us. Let’s just go, come on.” mumbled Emira as she started to make her way to the obvdorbes table with Edric quick behind her heels.
It was true there wasn't anything between her and the Hunter. They were just friends if you could call them that. Even though they had been spending a lot of time together for a few months now Emira was not sure how Hunter saw her. They had never spent any time together outside of the library. He never spoke about himself to her all Emira knew was that Hunter was raised by his uncle but he wouldn’t say more than that. Most of the time he acted like he didn’t want her there.
It was her own fault. She knew better. The number one rule that has been drilled into all three siblings is do not get attached. The moment you get attached to something you lose. But I had been sure it would be different with Hunter. It was different with him. They would spend the days they weren’t together sending messages to one another. Or at least they had until that day at the carnival. It had already been a week since then and Hunter had still not spoken to her. The only message he had sent her after the carnival just said one word.
“I know Ed blames himself and at first I blamed him too but I know it’s not his fault. I was the one that fantacied there was something there when there obviously wasn’t. Live and learn right? At least it ended before it started. I just wish he would have said something instead of just ghosting me. I thought that at the very least the time we had spent together would have earned me that much.  Who knows maybe I’ll meet someone here? One thing's for sure next time around I won’t be making the same mistake again.” thought Emira to herself as she kept moving forward.
Hunter
"She's pretty" noted Emperor Belos from his throne to Hunter who was standing next to him.
"Huh? Who?" Question Hunter puzzled by his uncle's words. He had never heard Emperor Belos refer to anyone as pretty or even note a person’s appearance. It somehow felt wrong coming from him, especially while he was wearing his mask.
"The girl you've been staring at all evening" teased Emperor Belos who was now looking directly at him.
Hunter had never been so happy to be wearing his helmet as it shielded his burning face from his uncle. "No I wasn't… I was scanning the room for threats… yeah threats'' sputtered Hunter as he panicked at the sudden accusation.  His uncle had no idea of the secret meetups he had been having with Emira over the past few months and Hunter prefered to keep it that way.
“Ah yes that young lady does certainly look very threatening.” mused Belos looking back in the direction of the. “ Is she? She’s the eldest Blight girl right? That’s her brother next to her. Hmmm looks like she doesn't have a date. You know you should ask her for a dance. That way you can put your suspicions to rest.”  said Belos as he leaned in towards Hunter so only he could hear him.
Although he knew it was impossible Hunter was afraid that his uncle was able to see how red his face had become through his mask or that he could hear the beating of his heart which sounded like drums playing to him. He was at a complete loss of words at his sudden brashness. “...I … no I have to stay close incase of trouble.” managed Hunter. Belos gave a light chuckle before putting a hand on Hunter’s shoulder and giving him a slight push forward. “Go have fun, this is a celebration after all. And don’t worry about me, I think I can manage without you for the duration of a dance or two.” he jested in a warm tone.
Hunter stumbled forward before taking a look back at his uncle who was gesturing for him to go. This was not like him at all although they had never been in a situation where Hunter could actually socialize with people that were not in the coven or direct followers of Emperor Belos. It still felt wrong.
“That’s an order, go have fun.” added Emperor Belos in a more authoritative tone but Hunter could still hear the smile behind his mask. “Besides, we need someone that represents me to interact with our guests. Who better than my right hand man?” he added in a more relaxed tone.
Hunter took in his uncle's words before responding “Yes Emperor Belos”as he gave a bow in the direction of his uncle. He then turned around and started making his way through the crowd in the direction of Emira.
Twins
Edric noticed him first. It was the Golden Guard making his way straight to them ignoring everyone that tried to make conversation with him. “He must be mad,” whispered Edric to his sister.
“Who?” said Emira looking around for the source of her brother's concern but it did not take her long to realize who it was.
“Hey Ed, did you do something to the Golden Guard without telling me?’ asked Emira while raising an eyebrow at her brother.
“I was going to ask you the same thing” responded Edric. “What do you think he wants?”
“He probably wants to talk business since the Emperor practically owns Blight Industries now. Although that doesn’t explain why he would want to talk to us.” pondered Emira.
“Maybe he would rather talk to us than mom.” offered Edric.
“Well mom did say to mingle. Who knows maybe we can get on his good side?” replied Emira
Before Edric could respond the golden guard was already standing only a few feet from them. Just standing there staring in their general direction. Or at least they assumed he was it was hard to tell with his helmet on.
Hunter
“Ask her for a dance” he says, like it's that easy. Mumbled Hunter to himself. She doesn’t know I’m the golden guard, she'll probably think I’m just some creep. Not like it would be easier for Hunter to ask her for a dance. They hadn’t spoken since the carnival. When he came back to the castle that day he had been informed about the ball his uncle was throwing. Ever since then he had been extremely busy with managing the event. He hadn’t even had time to respond to her messages. The last message he sent to her just said busy. She probably hates him now.
Pl”us I’d never asked someone for a dance before and this was Emira. At least as the golden guard she wouldn’t be able to see his reactions to her teasing.” thought Hunter to himself as he continued to make his way through the crowd. “What am I supposed to say? Hey Em it’s me Hunter wanna dance? Oh this yeah I’m the Golden Guard. Yeah, the same Golden Guard that threatens your parents no big deal.” Scoffed Hunter to himself. He allowed himself to look back at Emperor Belos. He wasn’t surprised to see his uncle was watching him make his way to the twins.
“Right I was given an order and I have to follow it through. Maybe Emira doesn’t need to know who I am. That way I still get to follow my orders and she won't hate me as much” tried to bargain Hunter “...she’ll find out eventually though.”   He was so deep in thought that he hadn’t realized he was already standing just a few feet from the twins. He took a deep breath to steady his nerves before taking a step forward “Here goes everything” thought Hunter to himself.
Twins
“Smile Ed,” whispered Emira to her brother who was getting more and more uncomfortable with the man standing before them. The Golden Guard stood there for an uncomfortable amount of time just staring at them or at least looking in their general direction; it was hard to tell with his mask on.
“Hey are you o…” before Edric could finish the Golden Guard took a step towards them which caused Edric to stop speaking.
Both twins bowed before the Golden Guard but when they lifted their heads they were surprised to see his hand was outstretched towards them.
Hunter cleared his throat before asking “Could I have this dance?”
The twins were momentarily dumbfounded. Did the Golden Guard just ask for a dance? He was directing his question at Emira but before she could respond Edric stepped forward and took the Golden Guard’s hand.
“Oh I thought you’d never ask.” said Edric as he feigned bashfulness. This was not the first creep that had set their sights on his sister and it wouldn’t be the last. This guy had muscled his way into their families business. Their parents had been on edge ever since their interaction with him. Golden Guard be damned there was no way Ed would allow him near his sister.
“Uhh I uh” Hunter was compleatly taken off guard by Edrics advance. Not to mention the sudden shift in his demeanor. Even though they had only met once before Ed had come across as a kind, warm, and childish individual. His words and actions did not match his eyes; the person in front of him had no warmth in his eyes. I wouldn't have thought he could be so assertive. “That makes sense after what you did to their parents,” thought Hunter to himself.
“That’s enough Ed” said Emira while placing a hand on her brother’s shoulder. “Besides I believe he was asking me, right?” she noted with a smile while giving Hunter a wink.
“I uh yes ...um” Hunter felt his face get hot and once again was grateful for his helmet concealing his face.
“Em are you sure” whispered Edric to his sister while shooting a glare at Hunter.
“Yeah it’s ok I can handle this besides it’s just one dance. Why don’t you go find mom and dad? I’ll meet up with you guys after ok.” she whispered back trying to sooth her twin.
“...Ok” said Edric before shooting one last cold glance at Hunter and walking away to find their parents.
Blights
“...Isn't that right Honey '' gushed Odalia who was speaking with one of Blight Industries frequent customers about a potential new product. “Honey?”
Alador’s attention was completely enthralled by something off in the distance. “Alador?” puzzled Odalia as she began to worry.
“Dear is that our daughter dancing with the Golden Guard?” queried Alador who was squinting his eyes in an attempt to get a better view. Just like his son he also needed glasses but Odalia had given up on trying to get him new ones since he always broke or lost them. Now his goggles were his only glasses which he never remembered to use when he was not working on a project.
“What?! Where?!” asked Odlia while searching the dance floor for their daughter. Emira was not hard to find due to the extravagant dress. Not to mention people were giving the couple a bit more space given that her daughter's partner was indeed the Golden Guard.  Odalia had made it a point of getting the twins the most extravagant attire she could find. It was important to make lasting impressions. Although she never thought that would earn this type of attention.
Odalia let out a slight gasp when she saw her eldest daughter dancing with Emperor Belos' right hand man. “Where's Edric?” breathed Odalia while she looked for her baby boy. There was no way Edric would have left his sister with the Golden Guard and she knew it. He had always been protective of her which means he might have done something reckless.
“I’m right here mother” grumbled Edric who was still staring daggers at his sister's dance partner from behind his parents.
“Oh dear, come tell us what happened,” whispered Odalia to her disgruntled son, making note that he did not have a scratch on him. That was a good sign.
“He just approached us and asked Em to dance, I tried stopping it but Em said she could handle it,” mumbled Edric who was still unsettled by the situation.
Odalia let out a sigh of relief and straightened herself. “Don’t worry dear, your sister can handle this, she's a very smart and resourceful girl. Before the night is over she’ll have the Golden Guard eating from the palm of her hand.” bragged Odalia while giving her son what she thought looked like a reassuring smile but was more self satisfying than anything. If Emira said she could handle it then Odalia was sure her daughter already had a plan in mind. Out of her children Emira had sertently been the one to have inherited her cunning.
“This could be a great opportunity for us,” added Alador who was still squinting at the dance floor.
“Yes indeed” noted Odalia who was already thinking of all the benefits that could come out of this.
Edric on the other hand was not convinced and he still wanted to get Emira away from that guy as soon as possible.
Hunter
“Step one two three.. Step one two three.. don’t step on her feet.” thought Hunter to himself as he tried to keep his cool. “Focus Hunter it’s just one dance you can do this just don’t look at her eyes. And remember you have the advantage since she can’t see your face. Yeah but you can see hers. Oh titan, how is she so calm?”
After a while of dancing Emira finally said “So you’re the Golden Guard?” she mused while giving him a mischievous smile.
Hunter had been spending all of his concentration dancing that he flinched when she spoke. “I um yes” he stammered before clearing his throat and saying it again this time with more confidence “Yes I am.”
“Who would have thought that nerdy boy I met at the library was actually Emperor Belos' right hand man,” wondered Emira to herself as she kept on dancing without any hesitation.
“Yeah… wait what? I... uh no don’t know what you mean,” faltered Hunter before finally giving up. “What gave it away?” he whispered, getting ready for the backlash that was sure to come.
“Your voice, I knew as soon as you asked me to dance. Did you really think I wouldn't be able to tell it was you?” she asked with a smile genuinely amused. “I will say that I was taken off guard at first. Not that you were the Golden Guard but that you were actually asking me to dance.”
Upon hearing this Hunter felt a huge weight lift off his chest and he felt his body relax. He had been so afraid of losing his best friend he never even stopped to think that no matter what she would always accept him for him.
“I’m sorry Em…” he started but  was cut off by Emira who had leaned in to kiss him. Or at least she kissed his helmet where his lips would be.
“Curse this stupid helmet” thought Hunter to himself. He tried to speak but the only thing that came out was something that sounded like a whimper rather than words.
Emira giggled to herself while trying to hide her smile behind her hand. “Was she blushing?” thought Hunter.
“That was a lovely dance. We should do this again sometime but maybe next time lose the helmet? She said as she pulled away from him. “See you around Hunter.” she said as she started walking with that same smile on her face.
“What just happened? Did she just kiss him? Why did she kiss him? And why was he wearing this stupid helmet?!” thought Hunter to himself as his brain scrambled to make sense of what just happened.
It wasn’t until now that Hunter realized that the song they had been dancing to had long since ended.
Blights
As soon as Emira reached her family her mother quickly pulled her into a hug.
“You did good, dear” said Alador in his usual monotone voice.
“Way to go you just made that boy fall head over heels for you.” added Odalia in an excited tone.
She knew that her parents ment the remarks in terms of a business achievement but Emira could not help but smile at the thought of them praising her for dancing with the boy she liked.
“Thanks,” she said with a smile that brightened up her face.
The only one that was not in high spirits was Edric who could not believe what had just happened but before he could confront his sister Emira took him by the arm and pulled him away.
“We’re going to get some punch ok?” said Emria to her parents as she pulled her brother along.
“Alright have fun,” said Odaia before quickly turning around to speak with the crowd of people that had gathered around them. Having their daughter dance with the Golden Guard had definitely gotten them some attention.
Hunter
As soon as he gathered his bearings Hunter made his way back to Emperor Belos' side. And although he could not see his face he got the feeling that his uncle was grinning at him. But before he could reach him he was approached by Kikimora.
“How unsightly to have the Golden Guard walking around with lipstick on his helmet. You are supposed to be a representation of Emperor Belos yet look at you. Walking around like a love struck boy. You could hardly stay on your feet after that girl kissed you. How embarrassing.” sneered Kikimora low enough so that only Hunter could hear her.
“What lipstick?” thought Hunter to himself before the sudden realization dawned on him. Instead of heading back to his uncle he took a turn to go to a part of the castle that was sealed off for the rest of the party. Once he was out of sight he took off his helmet to inspect it and sure enough there it was. Emira’s lipstick from where she had kissed him. His face turned a deep crimson color when he realized he had been walking around like that on top of the realization that he had not imagined it she had kissed him.
He made up his mind, without putting his helmet back on he headed to his room to change.
Twins
“Em, wait, what’s going on? And why did you kiss that guy?” demanded Edric, digging in his heels so that his sister couldn't pull him anymore.
“Calm down Ed I just want to get somewhere we can talk without being interrupted ok?” said Emira who was still smiling.
“Fine, how about over there behind the stairs?” sighted Edric as he pointed to a set of stairs not far from them.
“That’s perfect” said Emira as she started making her way to them with her brother walking next to her.
As soon as they arrived Edric quickly started again but was silenced by Emira who had placed her hand over his mouth.
“I know what you’re going to say but wait and listen to me first. That was Hunter.” noted Emira before removing her hand from her brother's face.
Edric was in a brief state of shock unable to comprehend what his sister had just said. “Wait Hunter? Like your Hunter?” he asked, still not believing what his sister had said.
“Yup he’s the Golden Guard,” added Emira with a small smile.
“You knew? And you didn’t tell me? Em I was so scared” muttered Edric “Did you not tell me because of what happened at the carnival.” he whispered, sounding hurt.
“No Ed it’s not like that. I didn’t know either, I just found out too. You know I tell you everything.” she said, giving him a reassuring smile.
Edric returned his sister's smile before asking “So did he confess his undying love for you?”
Before Emira could respond Ed spun her around so she could see Hunter, not the Golden Guard, making his way towards them. He was wearing a white suit with a golden shirt and a mask that only covered his eyes.
“Ready for round two?” he said before stepping forward to greet Hunter. After they exchanged some words Emira could not make out Hunter continued making his way to her whild Ed used his magic to make sure nobody else could see the pair.
“Hey Em,” said Hunter, who was looking at the floor in a futile attempt to hide his face so she couldn't see him blushing.
“Hey,” she responded, trying to keep her normal composure.
“Um… you said you wanted to try a dance without the helmet right? So.. would you… like to dance with me.” said Hunter who had his hand outstretched towards her and whose face was the deepest shade of crimson color she had ever seen.
“Of course” said Emira while taking his hand.
The song that was playing was a slow song and it gave them time to talk. Once that song was over they kept on dancing to the next ones and catching up on everything they had not spoken about in the past week. How busy Hunter had been and how he was afraid that she might be angry at him to which Emira confessed she thought Hunter no longer wanted to be her friend.
Hunter had not realized he had made her sad. He always assumed she would be mad at him but it neve occurred to him that he would hurt her. She was the one person in the world he would never want to hurt. It must have been the sadness in her eyes which were always so full of joy and playfulness that made him lose his sense of reason. Before he knew what he was doing his lips were already pressed against hers.
When he pulled away he was ready to apologize for kissing her so suddenly but then she kissed him back.
When she pulled away Hunter could see her face. She was blushing and had a smile that lit up the entire room “I really missed you,” she said.
At seeing her face and hearing those words Hunter's heart skipped a beat. Nobody has ever said they missed him.
"I missed you too," he replied, returning her smile.

A bit Green
Summary:
Lily discovers one of the Rooks trying to get close to Jacob, and never having experienced true jealousy before, it doesn't sit well with her.
[This imagine struck my heart, he’s so gentle with her and yet still so fearsome ahhh, anyway, more in the works to come so hold tight :) x]
Tumblr media
An eruption of laughter at the table had escaped into the air though no one took particular notice to the loud noise. In fact, the entire pub had lit up with conversation and song, the music that echoed around the room had lifted the spirits of everyone in it. Most nights drinking with the Rooks had been merry, but tonight had been a special occasion to celebrate; to the new ownership of Horse and Groom.
The assassins began to slowly expand their empire from borough to borough, able to find funding in underground fights and carriage races, evidently where they recruited most Rooks who had eager ferocity against Blighters and a willingness to fight. Numbers grew larger and larger as did the influence of the assassins gang within the city, an undeniable uprising to those who sought against the oppression.
In the corner amongst few Rooks sat an assassin, her emerald eyes fleeting from faces to the scenery around her, still coming to terms of the pub investment that had landed them ownership of this fine establishment. A light chuckle came by Lily, averting her attention back to the green coated allies at the table that shared conspiracy rumors of the city itself. Debating on what deemed true and did not, pints in hands splattering at passionate opinions and loose fingers. The thought of drinks had her head turn to the empty chair beside her, waiting for her partner to come back with promised said drinks.
There had her line of sight drawn over to the bar, eyes softening at the familiar sight of Jacob's robes, even if from the back. The way he had leant against the counter as he waited for drinks had struck him out from the crowd, the man easy to spot when he hadn't been hiding in plain sight. But her smile faded as she lay eyes on the woman beside him, a younger Rook she hadn't known by name but had seen at various stronghold locations. She had provided the Rooks with decent information to enable Jacob to plan attacks against Blighters and run things accordingly without much disturbance.
So to say the least she was around a lot, and appeared to enjoy that factor.
Lily's face hardened as she kept a close eye on the girl, her pretty features working in her favor to get what she desired; and she was aware of how alluring she looked. Although her intent hadn't been one to worry, but more so on who her target was. She suddenly laughed, lifting her hand up to push back a strand of hair behind her ear, gaze eagerly looking up to Jacob in an attempt to flatter the assassin. He hadn't been fazed which provided Lily with a moment of relief, though it was only that, a moment.
The Rook's confidence grew as she slyly lifted an arm up beside him, brushing her fingertips to his elbow gently to engage in physical contact of her flirtations. A sudden harsh intake of air had been swept into Lily's lungs, watching another, especially that of an ally, make a move upon a man that was clearly taken. The disrespect of the woman crossing boundaries despite knowing them had Lily's anger flare. But she kept it at bay, allowing the emotion to slowly bubble up internally instead of acting impulsively.
This had all been new to her, the foreign circumstance creating an unsettling feeling in the pit of her stomach. She knew Jacob had well intent, and wouldn't succumb to that of his Rook, yet still felt sick at the sight. Was she jealous? Sitting close by to a show of affection for a man she had already made claim? She didn't like it. She refrained physical anger with tight clasps of her fists perched underneath the table as a wave of uneasiness seemed to settle over her completely.
A sudden cheerful welcome came to the group as another band of Rooks across the pub had made way to the table, excited to suggest a new interest of the night. "We're gon' make way across town to Topping's fight club! Thought you might want to come!" With intent to extent the night out longer, Lily couldn't seem to keep focus as her eyes trailed back to Jacob. The woman now in a closer proximity, her eyes staring wantonly up at her boss. It was a sight that Lily could easily start up hellfire for, but fought against it for the pleasantry of others. So she agreed to accompany the others out to Robert Topping's underground fight club, no longer able to bear witness to the sight before her.
She stood, leaving the pub behind the others with a slip out of the doorway, believing she had gone unnoticed toward the new endeavor. Though she was wrong. Jacob stood idly by the bar, waiting for the barkeep as one of his Rooks kept him company. She had simply started up with light conversation and praise of new ownership, but quickly had he come aware of her intentions and only hoped to get his drinks quicker.
The light touches of the woman and sexual glaze over her eyes hadn't fazed Jacob, only hoping for an excuse to retreat back to his seat where his beloved sat waiting for him. At the thought of Lily, he couldn't help by itch a smile to himself, turning his head to lay eyes on the woman that stirred a fire in his heart. But the feeling abruptly froze as he saw her seat empty along with a few others from that same table. His eyes scanned the pub intently, only just seeming to catch Lily slip out of the doorway and into the night.
His fist clenched, forgetting his intent on buying drinks as he easily stood straight and made haste after her. His name was called from the Rook though he made no motion to answer it, swiftly stepping out into the cold to have lost sight of the assassin. No matter, as his quick wit had brought him to his mastered eagle vision, head turning to catch sight of where she could possibly have gone. And down the alleyway across the street, a few figures made way into the night, one being gold and seemingly his only concern as he made way after her.
Chatter and easy strides lead Lily behind those that kept in high spirits, her head tilting high though her stomach sat the complete opposite. An emotion she knew she couldn't justify, yet one that decided to linger despite it. So caught up in her thoughts, the sudden grasp to her arm had completely caught her off guard. Lily acting on impulsive reflex at the sudden contact with a defensive swing of her arm. But it had been blocked by none other than Jacob, the assassin unfazed by the attack as it appeared his mind riddled with other current concerns.
"Lily," her eyes looked between his in momentary shock, unable to comprehend how Jacob had quickly made of her absence, "what are you doing?" Something had felt awry, Lily not normally one to skip out on any such celebrations, especially ones that include drinking. His hands tightened ever so slightly as he pressed for an answer, the woman averting her gaze back to the group that slowly made way into the distance. "What's going on? Lily, answer me."
"Some Rooks and I simply wanted to visit Topping's fight club." Her stare finally meeting his, though there had been a vulnerability to hers that Jacob couldn't quite decipher. "That's all." Her blunt statement was cold, though Jacob knew there was more. This hadn't been the first time Lily had struggled to express anything with emotions to Jacob, an ability that would take time. Hence why Jacob didn't snap, yet continued to prod with curiosity.
"We were getting drinks. You were waiting for me while I-"
"It appeared you had found better company." Lily snapped, her mouth moving faster than her brain had. The statement was sharp with hurt, an emotion she had conveyed too easily without restraint. It had Jacob's brows furrow as he shook his head.
"I don't understand." A sigh came his response as her arms folded over her chest, feet allowing a step away as she quietly huffed at how overwhelming this green monster inside her had become. "Lily, talk to me." He reached out, briefly brushing his fingers to her wrist as he closed the distance between them once more.
She felt foolish for letting her feelings get the better of her, not truly knowing how to explain to Jacob what she felt had her bothered. "I just," she swallowed the lump in her throat, kicking the gravel beneath her as Jacob stood awaiting an answer, his gaze focused in on his partner before him, "you were there with... and I..." Why had this been so hard?
But before she could attempt at a better explanation, a sudden call of Jacob's name came from close by. The pair turning their attention onto the very Rook that had provoked flames of anger into the very assassin. Her chest heaved as she subconsciously took a step away, Jacob laying his sights on the drop of Lily's features. Her eyes seeming so sad with an emotion she couldn't will herself to indulge in; it had caught Jacob off guard, his own gaze softening as he watched her then instantaneously switch up to her hard glare. The Rook came closer, hands clasped in front of her chest as she looked between the two before landing her sights on Jacob; she politely smiled. "I was wondering where you'd run off to."
Lily shook her head in disbelief that the Rook had been so concerned of his whereabouts. It hadn't of been her business as she yet again ruined another moment.
"Why don't you go back and keep your current entertainment occupied." Lily growled, spinning on her heel and making her leave with haste in each step. Jacob reached out to her as he watched her continue out of reach. He blinked back feverishly as he tried to piece together what had just happened. He'd never seen lily so defensive so quickly without reason which led him to delve into memories just moments before. Though rethinking to her words and what had led her to a quick exit, it appeared something clicked in his head as he tied the knot to it all together.
His face dropped in realization before he felt a sudden light touch to his shoulder, almost skimming over close to his chest. The Rook had daringly made close contact with the man, ever so bravely stepping by his side to close the gap between them. "Give her space." Her words wanting to come across with good intent, though her underlined tone told him anything but.
It was her. She had seemed to be the stem of this problem.
He could only recoil from her touch, stepping away as he knocked her wrist lightly from his body. The Rook appeared shock, cupping her wrist as Jacob had looked down at her expressionless. It seemed he had not previously been the polite man he had mere minutes ago, and she didn't like that; as if her plans to grasp a tighter hold on him loosely slipped away. "Jacob? I don't-"
"You will address me as Mister Frye, or Sir. Do you understand?" His tone deathly serious as if to challenge her to call him otherwise. It was a barrier he needed to firmly place, realizing the misinterpretation it caused. It would not happen again. He would not allow anything to make Lily feel so insignificant again.
"I-I-" His brow raised expectantly, the Rook finally concaving to the reality as she moped with a nod. "Yes, Sir." Jacob now satisfied that the situation had been rectified, he turned back around to where Lily had left off, features softening once more as he began running after her without another word.
Having caught up to the group, Lily allowed them to walk ahead as they closed in to the entrance. The walk had been a colder one than usual, the weather seeming to affect Lily more than she realized as she felt just as much internally. Her jaw clenched and unclenched, hands shoved into the pockets of her robes as she followed the Rooks with disinterest.
"Miss 'arvard! We're nearly there, come on!" Opening her mouth to respond, she was immediately cut off by an all to familiar voice.
"Give us a moment!"  She snapped her head back around to lay eyes on Jacob once more, swallowing back as she looked around for that Rook to be in toll close after. Yet she hadn't, which had Lily curious. Her brows narrowed in somewhat anger, but at what particularly she didn't know. Jacob did not truly do anything wrong, and so her anger wasn't directed at him. She was just generally upset, unable to rid the feeling or express why she sat in it as she did. The bitter emotion sat heavy to her chest, eyes averting sideways momentarily as she expected another interruption.
"Lily," Jacob cooed her name softly, stepping closer to her so her face sat level with his chest. The way her name rolled off his lips as her shoulders softened, fingers clasping to her robing material in anticipation. Her eyes drew up, surprised to see Jacob looking down at her with a gentle gaze; he hadn't of been angry or even confused. Simply accepting, and it tugged at her heart.
His arms lifted to wrap around the top of her shoulders, tugging her closer to press her against his chest. Her eyes widened as he tightened his hold to her. It was a particular place he liked to embrace Lily when he wanted a close proximity, a place that she felt most valued when he was with her.
A kiss came atop her forehead, her eyes lifting up to meet the hazel pair that gazed down warmly at her. The hands in her robes slipped out onto his chest, fingers clutching his vest to additional comfort as he kissed her forehead once more. "You're all that I need, Lily." He began, gently tilting her head up closer to his with the aid of his forefinger and thumb. His other took a hold of her hand, sliding it over his chest to land atop the part where his heart lay underneath. "That is yours, Lily Harvard." She swallowed back, wrapped in the emotion along the side of the street, yet she couldn't seem to find enough will to care. "And I will continue to call you mine, until a day comes where you wish it not."
Lily could only shake her head, glancing down to their hands as he began to run his thumb warmly against the back of her palm. Though his words were few, they seemed to be enough to emit a lighter feeling in her chest, the weight etching away with each moment by the sheer warmth of his touch and sincerity behind his eyes.
Her response came as a nod, tipping up onto her tip toes as she pressed a lingering kiss against him. He smiled against her, holding her close as the two embraced on the street, uncaring of those around who watched. His hot breath against her own sent her into a trance as she pulled away, Jacob pressing a last kiss to her forehead as she inhaled contently at the exchange. Surely more to come as the rest of the night could finally be spent in the joy the two had been expecting.

Father Todd, Mother (Y/n) (One Shot)

They were fucked.
Unbelievably fucked.
At least that's what Tim thought.
He was the one who created the earth-traveling device anyways. After working day and night, and going through a few dozen cups of black coffee or so, he created something he believed had the power to transport him to a different planet, -or dimension-, if he pleased. Bruce had been the one to reprimand him about using it, but, he later reluctantly accepted it after seeing Tim's test pass with complete success. Right now, the bat-fam was on a mission. A few heroes were stranded on Earth-15, and Bruce had sent Tim, Damian, and Dick to save them and bring them back. However, as easy as it seemed, things didn't go as planned.
The device had managed to go through some technological failure after sending the stranded heroes back to Earth-51, leaving Tim and the rest behind.
And there they were, stranded on Earth-15. The fact that none of them had any useful knowledge about the planet further put them on edge. They all hid a for a few minutes, clearly anxious about their situation.
Dick was the first to stand from his crouching position.
It seemed they had been transported to a random area, located behind an abandoned cathedral.
Or one that seemed abandoned.
He scanned his surroundings, checking every corner on high alert, before relaxing his shoulders and nodding towards his younger brothers,
"It's clear"
Tim and Damian stood from their positions, the youngest brother clearly not trusting his siblings as he stayed on guard, slowly trailing behind. As soon as they made in front of the cathedral, they stopped, opting to discuss a new plan. Dick watched as his brother in red and black attire went through his gadgets, eyes narrowed in concentration,
"So, What do we do? Just stand here like a bunch of imbeciles?", Damian questioned, emerald eyes gleaming with a small hint of desperation. Dick sighed, acknowledging the brave face he put on. He didn't know if anyone would ever spot the hint of vulnerability in Damian, but he sure as hell could being the brother, -and detective-, he was,
"Well, First we help Tim fix his device."
A sudden voice spoke up, a sweet very familiar timbre caressing their ears,
"I may be able to provide some assistance",
Instantly, they all turned their heads, eyes locking with a pair of gleaming (e/c) ones. Dick tilted his head in pure confusion, sharing a look with Tim as Damian sported a mild expression. It was you they were staring at. Except, you were wearing white and black, resembling that of a nun. Of course, each of the brothers were aware that doppelgängers were on every planet, but, they couldn't help but feel very surprised to find you. If they were being honest, being a nun kinda suited your sweet, considerate personality. You flashed a sweet smile, brows softening with empathy,
"Hello, excuse me for suddenly interfering. I couldn't help but notice you children."
Tim gave a weary smile, crossing his arms. Of course, they found it a bit humiliating to be called children, but, nonetheless, they allowed it to slide. Because it was your doppelgänger saying it, and because you were a nun. It would only be expected from the knowledge they had about that,
"I am Mother (Y/n), this is my cathedral. You must be from another earth I am guessing, yes? Follow me. I must provide you with as much as I can in the name of the lord"
They all gawked are each other, silently following your flowy, almost glowing form. Damian stomped his feet into place, his eyes narrowed his annoyance at the two elders ahead of him,
"Are you two insane? Why are you following? We don't know anything about her. She may prove to be dangerous",
Dick walked over, settling his hand on his brother's shoulder, before quickly having it slapped off by the young brat,
"Hands off, Richard"
He chuckled, face quickly growing serious,
"C'mon Damian. You have any better ideas? Plus, don't you like (y/n)?"
"Tt", he uttered, crossing his arms before begrudgingly following along. Tim examined his utility belt, a few lights going off to signal something,
"My gadget is picking up on two human presences. Whoever the other is, they're probably in the cathedral."
Dick looked down at his escrima sticks, which happened to glow a faint blue,
"Same here. From what I'm getting, it doesn't seem like they're evil."
After trailing behind you for what seemed like a few minutes, Tim was the first to speak up, hoping to ease the unnerving tension around them,
"Thanks for helping us. My name is Tim, and these are my brothers Dick and Damian"
Damian scowled as his identity was revealed. You glanced at them from your peripheral, chuckling at the way they began to bicker,
"It is alright children. Don't worry, I won't reveal your identities"
You opened the cathedral doors. They watched as your eyes aimlessly looked around,
"Father Todd! Father Todd?", you bellowed, hearing nothing but the echo of your voice. You turned back to the boys, watching as their expressions became hysterical once more. Tim and dick could barely believe it. Jason was here too? and he was a priest?! Settling your hands on your hips you arched a brow, crossing your arms,
"Are you children really Alright? You're looking at me like I've lost my mind." Before you could continue, two slender hands settled on each of your shoulders, spooking you to the core,
"I would look at you the same if I were them, Mother (Y/n). After all, you do have a unique way of being", you felt your cheeks burn as you craned your neck up, eyes meeting with amused cerulean ones. Black messy hair, a few strands of white, there stood Jason. Damian refused to believe at first, but, actually seeing Jason dressed as a priest with a cross around his neck was very, very perplexing. What the hell was going on here?? Fully spinning around, you looked up at Father Todd, eyes displaying adoration,
"F-father Todd! U-uh I was just looking for you. I wanted to introduce you to these children.", you pointed at each of them, presenting them to the priest, who seemed just a bit more interested in you than them. Dick and Tim watched your interaction with the Jason, amusement on their faces. It seemed even on another Earth, you both were still completely infatuated with each other.
However, Damian was quick to cut the interaction off, grumbling as a scowl crossed his face,
"Cmon you too. We do not have all day. Especially you, Father Todd", he spat, fuming with impatience and irritation by simply seeing Jason, -or what looked like-, Jason. The priest simply turned to him with a slightly baffled expression before releasing a slight chuckle, smiling brightly nonetheless,
"I see you have a...rather eager one. Please, settle down with me. It would be rude of me not to welcome you in the house of God"
Damian frowned in confusion. How was it possible that Jason could actually be somewhat nice to him?? Even if it was just his doppelgänger, it made his head hurt when he thought about it. They all followed, teasing and clearly enjoying Damian's reaction as you walked ahead with Jason. He pulled out a few chairs from the table next to the alter, gesturing for each to sit,
"May I ask how you children arrived on this planet? Mother (y/n) and I may be able to help"
"We meant to transport to Earth-51, but, it seems like my gadget wasn't working as well as I thought ", Tim scratched the side of his head, smiling bashfully. Father Todd nodded in understanding, hands folding on the table,
"I may just have the thing for this", he winked, standing up and walking over to the other side of the room. Upon pushing some buttons on a keyboard, everything lit up, displaying technological equipment of all sorts. Jason smiled upon seeing Tim's look of atonishment. He quickly walked over to the other side, immediately asking the priest questions and whether or not he had some coffee somewhere. You chuckled at them, steering your gaze over to Dick and Damian who sat directly infront of you,
"Now that I understand the circumstances you've been put under, you may stay as long as you'd like", you announced, handing Dick a cup of tea since he asked for it. He watched you with a neutral expression, clearly curious,
"Wait, you're actually okay with this?"
Jason, who had been helping Tim set up his gadget on the other side, came back, settling to stand behind you. He nodded with you after hearing his statement, offering another smile,
"Of course. I am a Gotham priest and she is a Gotham nun after all"
You grinned, features relaxing,
"We've seen stranger things"
——————————————————————————
With the help of his brothers and father todd, Tim had managed to fix his gadget. Dick smiled in triumph, watching everything quickly fall into place.
Your reassurance and kindness surely brought his heart to ease. He understood that all doppelgängers weren't exactly the same, but something about you, on this planet, clearly radiated your vibe and personality.
Nonetheless, the more time he spent seeing you, the more he was starting to feel homesick. The others couldn't really feel it, but, he missed his baby sister. His confident, blunt but kind adoptive-sibling, who had always managed to offer him solace. You turned back to Damian and Dick, a look of sympathy crossing your face as you met eyes with Dick,
"Are you alright, Dick? The gadget will be ready for use in just a little longer"
He smiled softly, nodding his head,
"Im fine. It's just, you remind us of someone we know on our Earth", you nodded, a flash of sadness in your eyes. You didn't know why, but you just sympathized deeply with them. Must've been your connection to your other counterpart. Standing up, you placed a hand on Dick's, offering comfort as his azure orbs met yours,
"Whoever this person may be, I am determined to get you home to them. I really hope you get the chance to greet them"
Dick smiled softly, placing his hand over yours,
"I hope so too"
———————————————————————————
After a few hours of preparing and installing some new pieces, the gadget was fully ready. Tim, Damian, and Tim waved goodbye to you and Jason before pressing the device and going through a portal.
——————————————————————————
Tim took his hands off the device, looking around with his brothers in hopes of finally achieving the bat-cave. All they saw was your figure alongside Jason's, standing next each other as you faced the bat computers. Upon hearing one of them take a step, you and Jason turned, your eyes sparkling as you smiled at your brothers. When you saw your oldest brother you jumped, running directly into his arms, "Dick! I missed you". He smiled, leaning his chin down on your head, "I missed you too, sis. So much." You were quickly interrupted by the rest, the voice of Damian making its way to your ears,
"Hmpf. I cannot believe you forgot about us for this ass." You chuckled, making your way over Tim and Damian as you opened your arms, hugging them tightly into a group hug,
"How could I forget the most phenomenal robin of all", he smiled as the rest rolled their eyes, clearly disagreeing with your statement. You released a sigh of relief after pulling away, jogging back to your position and punching a rather distressed Jason,
"See! I told you they'd make it home just fine",
You stuck your hand out in front of him, a cocky smirk on your face,
"Now pay me what you owe me"
"God dammit", the tall male grunted, sighing as he pulled his wallet out, placing a crumpled $20 dollar bill in your hand. You smiled in triumph, feeling even better at seeing Jason's defeated expression.
You both crossed your arms, examining your brothers in anticipation,
"So, did you still finish the mission even tho you got kinda stuck somewhere?"
You and Jason had known about the incident regarding the three, receiving the signal through your communicators. They all nodded, a bit perplexed as they had just seen you a few moments ago,
"Stop staring at me. It's unnerving as hell", Jason spoke, running a hand through his hair to get the strands out of his eyes,
"It's just, when we were stranded in Earth-15, we saw both of you guys... but, you were a priest and (Y/n) was a nun"
You both turned and looked at each other, clearly not believing a single word. Jason chuckled as you laughed hard, clutching your stomach. After what seemed like a few minutes, you calmed down, wiping your eyes,
"What a knee slapper. That was funny. Ok, now stop fucking around and go out there and help Bruce. Jay and I have to take care of some thugs"
"We're not lying!"
"Sure you're not you clowns", Jason rolled his eyes, walking away as you chuckled lightly. Tim and Dick looked at each other, shrugging their shoulders before parting ways. Damian turned, walking in the direction of the stairs that led back to the mansion,
"Seeing Todd again, makes me wish he actually was a Priest."

Chapter Nine is Coming Soon...

Tumblr media Tumblr media
When you walk alongside Ivar and Hvitserk, you see the three guards that put you in that horrid cage. The other two that helped carry you, were behind them, waiting for their fate to be sealed. Hvitserk nudges and smirks at you.
"What?"
Hvitserk "Nothing, I just think that you are going to enjoy this a great deal."
"Oh I will. I didn't deserve what they did to me, so they deserve what they are going to get."
Hvitserk chuckles and throws his arm around your shoulder, "I like you, princess. You are going to fit in very well here in Kattegat."
"Thank you, and I like you too Hvitserk. You've helped me these past two days and I cannot thank you enough. I owe you."
Hvitserk "Don't worry about it, Y/n. It was my pleasure to help you. Ivar would have done it himself if he could."
"I know. I feel for him."
Hvitserk "As do I, princess. But he is Ivar, he does not like pity."
"I understand how he feels. My people in Wessex, they know how my father is. And yet they don't show me pity, they just simply look the other way when I come out of my chambers with fresh bruises."
Hvitserk "He beats you-?!" He gets cut off by Ivar starting the ritual.
You whisper and lean into his shoulder, "I will tell you after, but yes he does. It is a very long story."
Hvitserk "Okay, I am sorry. Just know that as of right now."
"Thanks."
Ivar takes a seat right in front of his people and reaches out for you to join him, to which you gladly take his offer.
Ivar "Are you ready, princess."
"Yes, my king. Thank you for giving me justice. You don't have to if-"
Ivar "Nonsense! I care for you a great deal, Y/n. These three deserve what they are about to get. You are not the first person to be treated that way."
"Really, who were the other's?"
Ivar "Hvitserk's late beloved, and two others. So yes, I am happy to do this."
"Okay." He kisses your knuckles and then looks at his people.
Ivar "My good people, you all know these men very well! You know how they have tendencies to take their power a little too far, don't we?"
"Yes!"
Ivar "What you do not know, is that these three guards threw princess Y/n into a cage we keep for intruders! People who disobey and people who defame my image! Not innocent women who simply came for help, for a better life! They also did that to Thora, my brother's late lover. She also did not deserve that. Two others were also thrown without my word, without my ruling! Now do we allow that?!"
"No!"
Ivar "So what should we do, my people! Because surely princess Y/n, among others deserve justice for what they have done to them, do they not?!"
"Yes!"
Ivar "So, what shall we do to them huh?!"
"Hang them!" Some shout.
"Sacrifice them!" Another shouts.
Ivar chuckles and then looks at you, "What do you wish for me to do, princess?"
Tumblr media
"I do not care, just kill that one first." You point to the man in the middle.
Ivar "Yes, my princess. Question...ax, dagger or sword?"
Him asking you that question, gave you a tingle that you couldn't ignore.
"Dagger, my king. Make him suffer." You see his jaw clench in excitement. He kisses your forehead and then gets up and walks right up to the man you pointed at. He turns around one last time and takes out his dagger.
Ivar "Your future queen, has decided that I do this personally! To which I am happy to do. Do any of you object?" No one objects, making Ivar look at his brother in amusement.
Hvitserk "Do it, brother! Make him scream-" when Ivar is about to do it, Ubbe and Torvi arrive back from their travel's.
Ubbe "What is all of this hmm? And who is she?"
Ivar "This is my soon to be queen, Ubbe."
Ubbe "Oh is that so? Well, what is your name little sis?"
"I am Y/n, princess of Wessex."
Ubbe "Oh how nice. Now Ivar, why are three of our personal guards waiting to be killed, hmm?"
Ivar "They threw Y/n into our cage, Ubbe. I did not command it, I did not even know that she was here! They kept her in there without my knowledge for over eight hours."
Ubbe "Are you serious?"
Torvi "Are you certain?"
Hvitserk "Yes, they admitted it."
Ivar "I won't allow another woman to be thrown in that horrid cage that isn't meant for them. First it was Thora, then it was two of your allies, now Y/n. I won't allow it...surely you would agree, yes?"
Ubbe "Yes, it was just a shock is all. But it must be done. Y/n, it was nice to meet you. I look forward to getting to know you shortly, hmm?"
"Yes of course."
Torvi "How long is your stay?"
Ivar "Indefinitely."
Torvi "Oh how wonderful." They walk away, not even mentioning the emerald green dragon that sat calmly by your side. Which you thought was strange.
Hvitserk sits down next to you, waiting for Ivar to get the job done as much as you are.
Hvitserk "Continue Ivar." Ivar clears his throat and turns around to face the man.
"Please my king...I will not do that again. Give me another chanc-"
Ivar "YOU HAD CHANCES! I GAVE YOU FOUR, AND YOU STILL DISOBEY MY ORDERS! I told you, when we have visitors you send them straight to me. And what do you do? You put them in the cage for hours on end!"
"I AM SO SORRY, IVAR! PLEASE HAVE MERCY!"
Ivar "Mercy? MERCY?! DID YOU GIVE Y/N MERCY? HUH?"
"N-no."
Ivar "Let me ask you something. Did she tell you who she was, hmm?"
"Y-yes."
Ivar "Huh? I didn't catch that."
"YES!"
Ivar "Yes. That is what I thought. What else did she say to you huh?"
"She..she told me that you knew that she was coming. She told me to just talk to you."
Ivar "Mhm..and did you? Did you come tell me that?"
"N..no. I didn't trust her! She has a fucking DRAGON!"
Ivar "I KNEW THAT SHE HAD A DRAGON! YOU ABSOLUTE IDIOT!"
"Please Ivar."
Ivar "You threw the woman that I have grown insanely close with in a dark, isolated and cold cage for over eight hours! She could have starved to death, she could have died from hypothermia! It is beyond freezing in there, for a reason!"
"Please, i-i am not ready for Valhalla!"
Ivar "Hmm..strange. 'cause I can hear the Valkaries wings coming down to bring you home right now!" The man screams out one last time before Ivar digs his dagger into his right eye. Hvitserk cheers and throws his horn of ale in the bastard's direction. Ivar doesn't stop there, he digs his other eye out and then slits the man's throat. To everyone's surprise, he is still gurgling. Ivar looked at you and then at Ryuu. You know what he is asking of you and you think about it for a moment. He didn't just put you in that cage, he also put your dragon in there with you. You make up your mind and rise from your seat. You walk over to Ivar with Ryuu on your shoulder.
"Dracarys." Ryuu blazes the man from head to toe while the people of Kattegat cheer. Ivar stood there in amazement at your dragon. After he was dead, it was the two others' turn.
"What about them?"
Ivar "I will simply hang them."
"Good, the two behind them don't deserve to die, Ivar. They followed his orders, nothing else."
Ivar looks at them kneeling on the floor, begging for mercy and then back at you.
Ivar "Okay princess, if you say so. I will allow them to live."
After the two others were hung, Ivar had his people clean up the bodies.
Hvitserk walks over to the two men that you saved, uncuffing them from the floor.
Hvitserk "You owe her your lives, do you understand that?"
"Yes." They both said.
Hvitserk "Because of her, you both live to see another day." That is when you walk over.
"Th-thank you! THANK YOU!" They practically chanted.
Tumblr media
"You are very welcome. I know that you simply followed orders. Now if you ever betray me, I will burn you alive."
They swallowed deeply, "Yes. Yes princess."
"What happened to not using your dragon's to kill?" One said.
"I will allow them to kill for me if it is justified. If you betray me or your king ever again, I will burn you alive. Do you understand?"
"Yes." They both said.
Hvitserk "You can leave." They both ran for their lives. Ivar was behind you and Hvitserk the whole time.
Ivar "I have never met a woman so powerful before you, princess."
"I-I don't know where that came from." He walks towards you, cupping your cheeks.
Ivar "Your rage came out, my sweetheart. Your pain from your father, your pain from your past came up...that is why you said those things."
"You are right. I am not usually like that."
Hvitserk "But you have a reason to be, Y/n. Don't feel bad for setting rules, you are a princess."
"Okay."
_____________________________
Ivar had matter's to take care of with his brother Ubbe and his wife Torvi, leaving you and Hvitserk alone.
Hvitserk "Hey."
"Hey."
Hvitserk "Do you want to tell me now? If you are ready.."
"Sure, Hvitserk."
He sits down next to you and listens to you tell your story of your past. You explained to him your father's ways and his behavior. When you get to the beatings, you can see Hvitserk's behavior change abruptly: tears filled his eyes and his jaw was clenched. But eyes never left yours.
"So that is why I understand how Ivar doesn't like being pitied. But for me, I have never experienced empathy, sympathy or pity. I just had to fight my own little battle by myself because no one else would dare go against my father."
Hvitserk "I don't know what to say."
"Yeah."
Hvitserk "Well you aren't there anymore, Y/n. You don't ever have to go back if you do not wish to."
"I have to eventually, Hvitserk. I have two dragon's at home waiting for me. Oh my gods MY DRAGON'S!"
Hvitserk "Y/n, what is it?!"
"My dad, he...he will change my dragons! I trained them to be loving unless told otherwise! His dragons were much different."
Hvitserk "What do we need to do?"
"I need to get my dragons."
Hvitserk gets up, "So let's get ready to get your dragons and bring them home. Where they belong."

TOPPAT!CHARLES PART 6
HEY! HEY, YOU!
Don't scroll past this!
Why, you ask?
Simple.
TIME FOR TOPPAT!CHARLES PART 6!!!!!
Sorry if I scared you there, I'm just über excited for this one, I sincerely am, you have no idea!!!
If you haven’t read the previous parts, you can find them RIGHT HERE:
Part 1:
Part 2:
Part 3:
Part 4:
Part 5:
Previously on Toppat!Charles: Our pilot friend learned the hard way it's not a good idea to say 'no' to the Right Hand Man, and has accepted his offer. Meanwhile, Henry has been having nightmares of his different end selves disagreeing with his decision and chastising him for letting Charles get taken by Right.
HEADCANON/THEORY FOLLOWING OF THE CHAPTER: Watch this theory by Two Left Thumbs, and you'll know instantly. A hint, though, Ellie is dealing with this in her own way; she and Henry ARE connected in more ways than one😉: https://youtu.be/LjOCfKOqkic
undefined
youtube
Got that? FANTASTIC!!
LET'S DIVE RIGHT BACK IN!!!!
Henry walks down a hallway and toward a break room for breakfast; he, Ellie, and Charles do have an apartment, but the general wants them to stay until Charles is back home safely.
It has been at least a few weeks since part 5, and that time, in addition to the nightmares, has taken its toll. Henry’s hair is messy, his clothes are wrinkled, and bags have formed under his eyes.
As he reaches the doorway, someone is there to greet him.
“Morning, Mr. Stickmin.”
Bill Bullet sits at one of the tables, having just finished his own breakfast and is now fidgeting with his empty coffee cup.
Henry takes a seat across from him and rests his head on his hand.
“You doing alright? You look like Hell in a hand basket.”
'Hard time sleeping,' Henry signs as he yawns.
"Well, don't go sleeping on me. We're moving today."
Henry looks up at him, now awake and alert.
"Some of my men saw movement from the orbital station on oir satellite. They might be paying Earth a visit."
Henry pulls a newspaper ad out of his pocket and uncrinkles it and shows it to Bullet, tapping on it.
It's an add for a museum exhibit in a neighboring city close to the one Henry robbed in StD, said exhibit being a sapphire, like a large sapphire, like the size of the diamond, ruby, and emerald. It's tempting for Henry to not steal the sapphire and slip back into old habits.
This is an excellent target for the clan.
'The Right Hand Man should be, too.'
Bullet smirks and nods. "I've got a team ready for you. We'll leave on your call."
TIME JUMP TO THE MUSEUM!!!!!
Henry and his team and Ellie enter the museum with little to no problem; Henry brought Ellie for emotional support and so he could show her the sapphire. (A small gift to her for everything she's done as his friend)
They have some close calls like Ellie almost getting seen by a guard, one of the CCC men almost shoots another guard "just in case," and another guard almost falls on yet another guard.
After that, they get to the sapphire exhibit and take out the guards in a way that doesn't get them (the guards) killed. After that, they all sit down and play the waiting game.
The CCC men do a sweep of the area and ready themselves at different parts of the exhibit, hiding in spots and ready to strike. Ellie and Henry take a seat near the sapphire itself, admiring it before focusing back on the mission.
Henry lets his mind wander, thinking about how once they save Charles, Henry will take his place in the CCC. It's the kind of thought that gives them a sick feeling, but all he can think is 'As long as Charles is safe, it'll be worth it.'
He remembers Terrence's words about how life is for living and bites his tongue.
I've seen families live together just fine with no riches, no crime, and no Toppat Clan. We really meant that little to you?
He gets a tap on his shoulder and looks over to see Ellie holding out a cup of coffee to him, a thermos, maybe two, next to her.
"I thought you could use some, since we're gonna be here for a while."
Henry shakes his head and tries to push it away. 'No thanks. I don't really like coffee. Gives me a headache.'
Ellie gives him a withering look. "When was the last time you got a good night's sleep?"
When Henry doesn't answer, Ellie smirks and holds out the coffee once more. "Yeah, thought so."
Henry rolls his eyes and takes the cup, signing with his free hand, 'Fine. When did you become my mother?'
"When you became a child," Ellie barks as she lightly bonks Henry on the head. "And when you came back from visiting your father." She leans back and puts the back of her free hand against her eyes, looking as dramatic as possible. "What they say is true: A boy really needs the love of a mother."
Henry scoffs and shakes his head with a smile before writing on her palm again with his finger. 'I already have a mother.'
Ellie sits straight, now intrigued. "You don't talk about them a lot. Your parents, I mean."
Henry raises an eyebrow and points to her as he nods, gesturing either, 'You don't, either' or 'Neither do you.' Same message, different phrasing.
It's Ellie's turn to shake her head. "They're not people I want to talk about. I doubt my dad would let me visit him, even in a situation like this."
Henry pauses from drinking his coffee.
"Your dad said life is for living. I can't say he's wrong for saying that." She turns her head to Henry, looking him in the eye even those he's staring off into outer space/zoning out. "It's just hard to live life when..." She looks away again, lowers her voice, just so the CCC men don't hear her, and clenches her fists on her knees. "When you can't stop living."
Henry nods as he goes for another sip of coffee.
Then he stops.
'It's hard to live life when you can't stop living.'
Those words make Henry slowly lower his cup and turn to Ellie, looking at her both incredulously and with fear.
"What?" He asks under his breath.
Before Ellie can answer, something is thrown into the exhibit and EXPLODES, filling the room with smoke and no one really getting too injured.
The CCC men fall one by one from being grabbed from behind and put into a sleeper hold, and the toaats responsible run over, mostly undetected because of the smoke.
Henry is seemingly tackled down by Ellie as the two hear glass breaking above them.
The sapphire's case is open.
Henry sees a toppat get close and shoots him in the shoulder, not enough to kill him but enough to get him running away.
"Good shot!" Ellie yells between coughs because the alarms been set off.
Henry points to his gun, then to his hand as he shakes his head with a "Mh-mm." 'I was aiming for his hand.'
The two go toe to toe with a pair of toppats like in the very beginning of this series, but something's different. When Henry kicks his opponent away, the toppat scurries away from the two. And Ellie's just runs when she's just started fighting.
"What's going on?"
Henry shrugs and then looks over at the sapphire.
You know that face and stance he does in Toppat King when the rocket takes off without him? Weeeeellll...
Henry's face drops completely as he holds the sides of his face, gasping loudly.
Ellie is equally flabbergasted, and a little annoyed at how well this plan actually worked in the toppat's favor.
A little too well, I'd say.
"What do we-"
Henry runs after the toppat Ellie was fighting before she can finish asking him.
The three race through multiple exhibits, the toppat throwing down trash bins and benches in order to slow them down.
Henry, however, has the power of friendship and adrenaline and keeps up with him evry step of the way.
"Stop!" He yells. "Where is he!?"
The toppat fumbles, but still continues running. Ellie picks up her pave unitl she's in front of Henry.
"Where's Charles!?"
The chase takes the two of them outside, Henry falls behind, where the toppat makes a sharp turn to the wall.
Ellie sees this a second too late as she is hit in the nose with a cybernetic hand, knocking her down, but not knocking her out, even when a cybernetic foot is put on her freshly healed rib.
"'Ello. It's been a while, 'asn't it?"
Ellie glares up at Right and tries to move his foot.
"Last time I saw you, you had to get carried in a stretcher."
"And you took our friend," Ellie sneers.
Right rolls his eyes; these kids do not play around, which he admires, but it does get annoying when he's in a playing mood.
"Charles. Our friend. What did you do with him?"
Right smirks and looks over his shoulder. "Looks like this one missed you, after all. You'll fit in perfect with the two of them now." Right moves his foot and approaches whoever he's talking to, and Ellie takes this opportunity to try to get the jump on him.
The toppat sees this INSTANTLY.
🤨... I don't know anout you guys, but I feel like I'm forgetting something here.🤔🤔
OH, YEAH!!!
Henry runs out just in time to see this toppat shoot Ellie in the hip.
If this was a movie, we would hear nothing, no music, no talking, just the sound of the gun firing and echoing as the bullet either gets lodged in Ellie's hip or goes THROUGH her hip, close to the joint of her leg. We would get a shot of Ellie's face, eyes wide, brows furrowed and widely arced, like those despair looking anime faces, and lips slightly parted as shock sets in. We would also get three more shots, one from her perspective as she sees the toppat lower his gun,one behind Ellie as she falls back, and the third being on the ground and slightly in front of her as Henry freezes where he is and watches her fall.
BUT HE DOESN'T STAY THIS WAY.
"You BASTARD!" Henry screams as he charges toward Right, who steps back and throws him into the toppat.
The sight of him not only snaps Henry out of his rage, it completely throughs him into a despaired shock.
He's lost a lot of weight in his captivity, and Henry can feel it through his suit and see it in his cheeks, jaw, neck, and eyes, which are blood shot, empty and glassy. His hair's grown longer to where it is past his shoulders and kept in a low ponytail, the rest held back by gel and his own top hat so it stays out of his face. He's gotten pale from his time in space and not being exposed to sunlight and vitamin D.
For a second, neither recognize each other, but Henry is the first to as his chest goes hollow.
"Charles!" He quickly embraces his friend, who is still quiet and nit exactly reacting, but the gears start turning in his head as he realizes who's talking to and hugging him.
Right watches ans his smirk widens as Henry let Charles go and turns to him, tears pouring down his cheeks and now angry as hell.
"What did you do to him!?"
Right looks back at Charles, prompting Henry to do the same.
"Henry?"
A smile grows on Henry's face as he helps his friend up.
"Charles, I'm so sorry! I should've-"
BANG!
Henry falls backward, but doesn't die. Instead, the ground melts away beneath him and he gasps as the bullet wound heals on his forehead. You know that feeling you get when you're falling asleep and feel like your mattress is floating on the ocean waves? Henry feels that until he's back looking up at Right.
This time, he looks at Charles to see Charles is literally about to shoot him, but he hits and throws it away before Charles flips him over and smashes his fist into Henry's face repeatedly until Henry throws him off and stands back up, Charles standing as well and glaring at him, absolutely livid.
"Why'd you do it?" Charles growls. "Why didn't you help me when I needed you!?"
The hollow feeling in Henry's chest worsens as Charles stares him down. Part is him is more than willing to break down into tears, but all the time watching the tapes Right showed him in Part 5 have made his body producing tears next to impossible.
Right only stands back and watches because, as you probably put together, THIS is plan. Not only to take a friend, Charles, away from Henry, but to have said friend destroy him.
"I'm sor-"
Before Henry can finish, Charles punches him again.
"TELL ME!" His voice is a little broken, but he keeps yelling out of frustration and sheer anger because, yes, while Henry sent the destroyers and the government to help Charles, he didn't stop Right in the jungle during the mission. "WHY DIDN'T YOU STOP THEM!? WHY DIDN'T YOU HELP ME!? YOU JUST STOOD THERE AND LET ME GET TAKEN AWAY!"
Henry doesn't have the fight in him to stop Charles from yelling at him or punching him. He doesn't even have it in him to look Charles in the eye.
And that bothers Charles immensely.
"Why won't you say anything?" Charles asks. "No matter what, you've always stayed quiet."
When Henry still remains silent, Charles swings a punch into his face hard enough to make Henry fall down.
"SAY SOMETHING!"
Henry holds up his hands, revealing how much he's been crying and how hard Charles has been hitting him; Henry's nose is broken, one of his eyes his swollen shut, his lips are split, and a tooth is loose.
Physically unable to speak, Henry signs to Charles instead, 'I'm sorry.'
Charels quickly kneels down and snatches Henry's hand.
"I want to hear you say it."
Henry tries forcing those words out, but his throat tightens up and leaves him unable to speak. He tries again and his crying becomes worse as he shakes his head.
"SAY IT!" Charles screams.
Henry breaks down as he shakes his head again, signing and gesturing as much as he can.
Charles rises to his feet, his eyes going glassy and his face expressionless. "I figured as much." He kicks Henry in the mouth and turns to Right. "We're done here. Send a message back to the station. We got the sapphire."
Right nods as his smirk becomes a smile. "Yes, sir."
Henry stands up on shaky legs and stiltedly walks towards his friend.
"Ch-Charles."
Charles shuts his eyes and heaves a breath through his nose, his top hat in his hands.
"Charles, w-wait-"
Charles wheels around as he watches Henry stumble toward him.
"I... I-"
"Don't bother."
Charles holds the hand gun Henry made him drop and aims it at Henry.
"I've heard enough."
When Charles shoots, Henry does not feel the bullet when it is lodged into his waist.
Henry is standing long enough to see Right, Charles, and any remaining toppats be beamed up to the orbital station with the sapphire.
The glare from Charles stays in Henry's mind as he falls, eyes locked on the night sky as Charles's words replay over and over in his mind.
Ellie groans as she crawls over to Henry and falls on her good side, where Charles didn't shoot her.
"We tried," she says as she breathes shakily and hold his shoulder, more his shirt, but I digress. "We tried."
The CCC guards do eventually wake up and get Ellie and Henry back to the government base. Both get immediate medical attention, which leads to Henry getting surgery to get the bullet out and seeing Ellie suddenly begin to panic and shout repeatedly, "I can't feel my leg!"
TIME JUMP TO AFTER HIS SURGERY!
Henry wakes up in his own room and finds that Galeforce is sitting in a chair, hunched forward, fists shaking, and his hat off.
"General?"
Galeforce puts his hat back on and sits straight. His eyes are red rimmed and have bags underneath them now. "Morning, Henry. How're you feeling?"
Henry holds his hand out and sort of tilts it on a way to say, 'Fine.'
Galeforce forces a smile and sighs.
"Ellie's still in the infirmary. That shot form-" He gulps and coughs a little bit. "-From the toppat... did a number on her leg. She won't be on the field for a long time."
Henry sits up, even when his body aches, and picks up a pen and notepad on his bedside table.
'They got the sapphire.'
Galeforce nods. "I know."
Henry shakes as he writes on the notepad again before dropping both and resting his forehead on his knees while loosely hugging his knees. Galeforce hangs his head and lets Henry cry; he doesn't really have much to say anyway.
'Charles,' the notepad reads.
HOLY SHIT DID THIS ONE TAKE FOREVER!!!!!
But that is a really good thing😁!
I hope you all enjoyed this one because I certainly did!!
I'm probably going to take a break from this for a little bit because of how much of an emotional roller coaster this is, and so I don't get burn out. I will come back to this because I love this series, I guess you can say I'm letting my cake cool down before adding the frosting or letting the pot sit so it make good caramel or fudge.
Thank you, thank you, thank you all so much for following this series. I appreciate each and every one of you so much!
I hope you all stay safe this season, thank you again for reading and following, and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!

The Fall of Cordonia
Chapter Four
Trigger Warnings: Profanity, Gun Violence, Death, Sexual Content.
A/N: This came to my attention a few days ago. This series is not a spoiler for what happens in the real TRH book. I would demand every diamond I ever spent back if that happened 😬
I will also be in hiding from a certain fic writer who shall remain nameless, after this. I can explain 🤷
Tumblr media
"Leeeooooo!!", Riley screamed as a struggle between life and death ensued over her shattered and torn body. Like a thief in the night, death entered that room with a sickening crack of the neck, taking its prisoner with him back to the fiery pits of hell.
Bradshaw slumped his lifeless body across the queen, momentum dropping him to the floor below, his miserable soul quickly extinquished. At the same time, Leo's bright blue eyes lost their color as he instinctly glanced over to look at his younger brother one last time. There were no words, just the unspoken, I love you's,  between them. This was the one final bonding moment between Leo and Liam, before he fell back onto the bed.
Riley watched with horror as he stared blankly at her, jerking momentarily as his breath was literally sucked from his lungs.
Bastien was holding Liam up, literally and emotionally as he watched his older brother slip from his life.
He lowered a stunned Liam into his plush, leather desk chair; still reeling from the events that just occured in front of him.
Liam stood in disbelief from the watch tower, overlooking the empty square below, a heavy feeling pooled in his stomach. He didn't dare look at his brother for fear he would do or say something he'd regret.
"Come on little brother, say something"
"What do you want me to say Leo? Thank you for running away from your duties? Thank you for leaving me to pick up after the mess you are inevitably creating? No, wait...how about this...thank you for being so fucking selfish to ask me to give up my future so you can escape from your responsibilties and place the burden on me.....yes, Leo...how can I truly ever thank you? Is that what you want me to say?
"It's not like that and you know it....Liam, man...I'm not cut out for this shit, never have been".
"You"ve never even tried....the only two things you've ever cared about besides yourself is booze and pussy".
"Thats bullshit"
"You're right.....this whole thing is nothing but a big pile of bullshit and you're too coward to admit you have fucked me over."
"Liam...whatever you think of me, it doesn't change the fact that I"m not cut out for this life....but you.....you are.....you"ve always been"
Liam shakes his head furiously, his mood becoming more somber, "Then why do I feel like you just sucker punched me in the gut?"
Leo places a hand on Liam's shoulder, contemplating his words and actions carefully, "Because its a huge burden I've unloaded on you and I know that.....but shit, I've never doubted for a second, you're the man this country needs. Just say you'll do this".
With the weight of the world on his broad shoulders and trepidation in his voice, "I don't have a choice do I? If not me, then who?"
Leo hesitantly pulled his brother to him, wrapping his arms around him, clapping his back, "I hope one day... I can make you as proud of me, as you have always made me".
"I doubt that Leo".
Liam sank deep into his chair, loudly exhaling what little air he had been holding inside. He allowed the trickle of tears to flow as he thought about his brothers' sacrifice.....Riley is Liam's everything, Leo ultimately died to protect him.
He wiped away the moisture from his face and cleared the lump in his throat. There was no time to mourn; his wife was still trapped in that room of Bradshaw's palace and it was anyone's guess how she would get out.
"Sweetheart, I'm sending help. We have a rescue team in place with our allies and Bastien just informed me they will be there soon. Can you make sure the door is locked?"
The sound of his calming voice was the first time in 24 hours she felt something other than fear. With her attempt to sit up, she groaned loudly at the stabbing pain in her chest, she was positive her ribs were broken. "I can't", was all she could utter.
Riley nodded at Liam as he continued to reassure her everything was going to be okay, vowing to get her home to him. Everything that had happened played like a whirlwind in her mind. As silence took over the room, she heard the distinct sound of her baby crying and it caught her ear.
"Nikolas?"
Riley sat rocking a sleepy Nikolas in the nursery at Valtoria, fighting his sleep with excessive determination. Even through his very vocal, little tantrum, she couldn't help but chuckle as she noticed he looked exactly like  Liam when he's angry. That furrowed brow with the crease between his eyes, the way his face reddened and his nose scrunched up.
"My little prince, I love you sweet boy, but, that kind of cry only works on your father".
As Nikolas' lips started to quiver and with his voice turning hoarse, she, too, gave into him.
Riley lifted her 3 month old son to her shoulder, rubbing circles over his tiny back, basking in his sweet baby smell. She hummed a lullaby her late mother sang,  amazed it still clung to her memories since she was so young when she passed.
Nikolas lifted his tired head briefly and she soothed him back to her. His cries softened and he became heavier in her arms.
She could never thank Liam enough for this life he made just for her. The titles, the estate, the fancy balls, the lavish lifestyle was nothing, but, this little boy and Liam's love was all she needed or wanted.
The blast of distant gunshots ripped her back to reality. She didn't flinch;  feelings, fear, emotions, shock, there was nothing, as numbness took over.
The noise became louder and closer, yet, Riley remained in her position. She waited patiently, expecting the door to burst open any moment.
"Riley? What's going on?", Liam questioned frantically.
Riley didn't hear him, she sunk deep into a world of her own; one without pain, tears or bloodshed. A smile swept across her face as Liam begged her to speak back to him.
"Baby, look at me.....what's happening....please Riley, say something!".
She remained still, closing her eyes, humming Nikolas' lullaby to herself. She could see Liam in her mind, waiting on his table when she turned around and laid eyes on him for the first time. When she told him he was going to be a father and he cried in her arms. The first time he held his son and nothing else mattered in the world.
"Riley, my love.....I need you to speak to me".
The door knob began to twist erratically as sounds of chaos and struggle carried on outside;  shouts and blasts ringing in unisom.
"Riley?", Liam cocked his head watching his wife struggle with her mind; she was so calm and placid. He watched as the lights flickered and then shut off into complete darkness. The video feed lost its connection.
Riley didn't hear the door break down, she didn't see the flashlights shine on her face, nor, hear the heavy boots approach her, she was gone.
Strong hands gently shook her, then cautiously lifted her up from the bed, stepping over Bradshaw to carry her out of the room.
She steadily passed through the halls and corridors of the palace, surrounded by dozens of uniformed men and women.
"Maxwell? Is this heaven?"
"Rise and shine little blossom, you have a big day ahead".
"Max, I just want to lay here a little longer"
"I know that, but, when have I ever left you alone?"
Riley snickers, "true.....so you came to get me?"
"Not exactly....let's just say I'm here to watch over you. The good thing about where I am now is you can never get rid of me".
"Maxwell, will I ever see you again?
"Of course, but, not for a very long time....Riley, you have so many people counting on you right now. You have to go back and kick some ass. What's coming is so much bigger than Liam".
"There's more coming? ...Maxwell I can't do this".
"Sure you can".
"I love you Maxwell"
"I love you too Blossom"
Four days later....
Liam gathered the last of his documents and strolled from his office with fire in his eyes. Taking long strides, his black leather oxfords the only sound made as he walked alone down the long corridor.
He hung his head as he paused momentarily at the door of his quarters, his queen still recovering inside. Liam touched the door, in some way hoping to gather the strength the woman behind it may pass on to him.  Her screams of terror still waking her every so often. I promise love, I'm going to make this better for you, for Nikolas...for Cordonia.
Bastien met him at the top of the staircase; the head guard taking in Liam's appearance. He was dressed in the finest suit he owned, wearing the emerald cufflinks with the Cordonian seal, Riley gave him in Shanghai and his hair perfectly smoothed back.
He was nervous, as much as his father prepared him for the threat of enemies, Constantine had never faced anything like this. There was no one to turn to, he shouldered this responsibilty himself, not only as a King, but, as a father. He would be damned if he gave up now, remembering Leo's words to him, you're the man this country needs.
He took in a deep breath and exhaled slowly, "I'm ready", he said confidently.
The palace was quiet, the destruction was apparent all around, the lights burning dimly and the eery presence of lives lost all around him.
He stepped into the throne room, attendees and press immediatly standing to their feet, no one uttering a word. He looked every bit the leader Cordonia needed right now, while inside feeling every bit a failure as a father and husband.
He took his place at the podium, there was no usual applause, no chatter, only sniffles and eager ears longing for reassurance from their monarch. Liam stood silent for the longest time, his people understanding of it, as he looked around the room, taking in each face.
What was left of the council gathered in the front row, his eyes following in a line of each member and those who left nothing but chairs behind. Bertrand who couldn't contain his tears as a rose sat in the seat next to him where Maxwell typically sat. Drake, his arm in a cast, head bandaged, with the most defeated look Liam had ever seen him wear. The empty seat of Olivia next to him, with a scarlett ribbon, a shell shocked Kiara, Emmaline sitting in place of Landon, a distraught Adelaide, a subdued Neville, Hakim, and the rest of the row void of its normal holders.
He brought a fist to his mouth, attempting to catch himself from allowing the emotions to overtake him.
He lowered his fist and rested it on the podium, clearing his throat, in preparation to address the council and nation.
"My fellow Cordonians and esteemed members of the council....Four days ago, tragedy struck our country and has affected each of us in ways no one could ever have envisioned. My heart and mind is with each one of you, even as I, too have suffered great personal loss. While I don't have all of the answers, I do know this....your monarch will not sit idly by and give in to the demands of those behind these attacks. King Bradshaw was just one element of this, it was discovered the recently deceased Princess of Monaco was also involved in harboring the Prince....my son, who has yet to be discovered. In the grand scheme of thing, those two were just pawns for another leader.
That is why, today, I am declaring war against Monterisso. Queen Amalas.....I know you are watching right now, so hear me when I say this.....I'm coming for you. There will be no place safe for you to hide.... and I daresay, I will win. This goes for anyone else involved in assisting her.
Our allies have remained in contact and have worked tirelessly to help save our kingdom. We are down right now, but, we have faced enemies before and have come through victorius...I have no reason to believe this time will be any different.
Now if you will join me in a moment of silence for those who we have lost".
Liam thanked the crowd, declining questions and eased his way into the front row, standing before Bertrand. He embraced him, knowing his attempts at comfort were in vain and there was really nothing he could say. He knelt down before Maxwell's empty chair, biting his lip, all the training in the world unable to hold back his emotions. Drake sidled beside him, kneeling down with his uninjured arm around Liam's back. The Three Musketeers, down to two.
He stood, and held Drake for what seemed like an eternity. Liam moved forward, picking up the scarlett ribbon from the next chair, clasping it in his hands, his jaw tensing as he dropped the ribbon back to it's place.
When he was finished, he left the room and headed back to his quarters alone. He loosed his tie as he made his way up the steps and to his bedroom. He stopped at the door as Riley turned to him, dismissing her nurse before shutting the door behind him.
"Is it done?", Riley questioned, holding Nikolas' stuffed bear in her arms.
Liam nodded, "It is".
He threw his tie on the bed and poured a finger of scotch, downing it all at once. He faced his wife once more, "We'll either win this my love.....or lose everything trying".
Monterisso
Amalas allowed the thin, dainty fingers of her companion to slip under her skirt, groaning with pleasure as two fingers swept between her wet folds.
The two women were enticed by the words coming out of Cordonia, laughing with one another over the supposed threat. Liam has never been alone, Amalas has known his every move and gesture for well over a year. Even now, she is still one step ahead of him.
She lays back on the sofa with her legs wrapped around the neck of the woman who has caught her affections. She swallows hard then moans loudly as the skilled tongue laps up her juices and slides into her dripping entrance . Pleasure begins to ripple through her body and she arches her back as a thumb rubs circles over her clit. She cries out, feeling her lower abdomen tighten, her core pulsing until she is met with her release.
Both woman fall back onto the sofa, breathing heavily, clutching one another.
"I do believe this day continues to get better", Amalas said while clutching the red hair of her companion.
"Shall we celebrate our victory further?"
"Olivia, I think I have something else in mind", Amalas replies as she reaches under the sofa, eager to unleash her next plan. "You should know, I do enjoy doing things on my own".

The Weight of a Crown 5: King of Lies
We were skipping steps as we ran through the prairie. I could feel how the air was trying to lift me up; excitement filled my soul with each step. The skies were showing us tints of blues and oranges with pinks on the horizon. Karina swirled around and finally stared at me with her peculiar eyes. My heart fluttered while my cheeks turned pink. She noticed my shyness and I internally began to panic, but I was at peace. Life felt good, I was glad to be alive at that exact moment. Everything felt like a dream. We were standing right at the front of the Tree of Life, yet everything that happened felt unreal.
A few officers were standing by the gate, inspecting outsiders who needed to cross the border. The old man who helped me leave home was also an outsider, someone who doesn't get to travel deep into the Tree. Karina kept on staring at the entrance, feeling anxious and unsure about everything, "why... people can't get out of the Tree of Life?" She asked while popping her head out from a bush. I hushed her and crawled next to her, ready to give a scientific explanation, "because we must not get mixed with outsiders," "mixed?" "Eighty-percent of our population is descendant of a past King, that's why," "that's it? And how come people can go in?" "They really can't. They only travel through the outskirts of the city," "oh... what if they don't let me in?" "Let's sneak in when they exchange places." While they were exchanging positions, we took the opportunity and sneaked in. We successfully infiltrated the city like little spies.
Karina stared at the walls, the houses, streets, and mansions of the outer layer of the Tree. The Tree of Life is composed of three walls. Each wall contains a specific kind of population. Between the entrance of the Tree and wall Euphoria, the middle class resides. Those are merchants and inside farmers. Philia is the wall that keeps the upper class and some aristocrats. These are the owners of companies and others who managed to reside in the Tree. After wall Philia, there's wall Helios. In between those two walls, the royal children of the King live along with him, the Queen and I. At the heart of it is the peculiar small palace which is my birthplace.
Many stared at Karina, inspecting her skin color and hair. Their glares felt like pinching needles going through our skin. They didn't know how good of a friend she is. We arrived home, "Woah!" My friend exclaimed, "how is it? Nice?" I was ready to show off everything, and give her a grand tour around the house, "it's so big! Amazing! It looks like a castle!" "It is a castle. Let's go in, hopefully, mother isn't angry at me," "let's go!" As soon as my guards saw me, they began to yell. Mother came out from the living room and hugged me tightly, "child! I was so worried about you!" "Mother... I'm fine," "where did you go? What happened to your clothes? Estes!" Mother then stared at my friend and frowned, "don't tell me this is..." "she's Karina, my best friend." Karina widened her eyes and grinned at my mother, but mother frowned and grabbed us by our wrists.
She pulled us to my room and my mother shut the door and windows. She stood in front of us with her hands on her hips, "how dare you bring a Dark Elf into our house? Into the Tree of Life? Do you know that stepping out and bringing people in is treason? Want your father to kill you?" "M... mother. She has nowhere to go. I understand the laws of my land, but I'm trying to help her. I'm convinced that no one is the same." My mother's face softened, she kneeled in front of us and patted my head, "when I was younger... I had a very good friend. He looked just like Karina," "and what happened?" I asked, "I had to let him go... because... the laws of our country are there for a reason. He was very good, but that wasn't enough. Estes, please leave us alone. I would like to have a word with her." I wasn't aware of it, but my mother confessed her first love to me. It wasn't a surprise, hundreds of women are set to marry the King against their will, even if their hearts belong to someone else. I wonder if her lover is still alive.
I stepped out. They talked for ten minutes or so while I kept on staring at the paintings on the walls. Grandmother, grandfather and those that I didn't know were hanging there. All of them looked alike. I kept wondering if the citizens can't step out from the Tree because they are all descendants of a King, or because there's something else I didn't know? Karina interrupted my silly thoughts as she patted on my back, "so? Did mother let you stay?" I asked immediately. Karina's face was sad, but she nodded, "yes, but I won't stay," "why not?" I exclaimed almost angrily, "because this is no place for me. I miss my home, mother, too. I'm not used to... this." I couldn't understand her words, what was wrong with my house? I grabbed on to her hands and pulled her closer, "Karina! You can't leave... we are friends, aren't we? We promised to stick together," "I can visit anyways. Mother must be worried about me," "you said your mother was—" "it's okay. I'm sure she will change. Let's meet on that same hill every month on this day at seven."
We promised to meet each other every month at night, and although I was angry at her choice, I had no other option but to let her go. A guard escorted her out and I waved at her as she slowly vanished into the distance. My heart ached, but I couldn't hold on to her. I was a mere child with no power. Mother snapped both of my hands and brought me in. I knew she was going to ground me, but I was still focusing on Karina's departure.
I remember feeling afraid as I stood in front of my father. I couldn't see his face, but I knew he was angry. "Why?" He asked with his typical raspy voice, "I wanted to see... the sky," "the sky?" He asked, accentuating the word sky, "yes King," "haven't you read enough about it?" "I just wanted to see it with my own eyes." He turned his office chair around and threw a thick book at me. It landed on my shoulder and scratched my collarbone, "you have no idea of the dangers outside of the Tree! You could have died, insolent boy!" My head was almost on the ground, and I couldn't lift my eyes, "why is it... that no one can go out of the Tree?" I dared to ask.
The King stood up and pushed me to the side, "come with me. It's time," he said as I tried to catch up with his long legs, "yes father?" "I'm afraid of the King you might become, but I have no other options. Our Moon God chose you among the tens of brothers that you have, I will have faith." I couldn't understand a thing. We entered his bedchamber which was situated at the top of the castle. He gazed from the window and appreciated the scenery, "there are not enough resources for our nation. Poverty has struck our land and our population has decreased." He looked bothered. I glared at his long cape while I rubbed my hands together, "the Tree is powerful as a whole... more powerful than the rest of Emerald." I dared to sit by his side. With uncoordinated movements I tried to hold on to his finger, looking up as I began to feel anxious, "King... I don't understand," "do you know what a King is?" "An example... to the citizens," "right. What happens if the King isn't a good ruler?" "Citizens... dethrone him," "why would the King not be fit for the position?" "Because..." I didn't know the answer.
Father sat on his bed with a blank expression. He caressed my head for the first time and said, "an Alpha wolf might have a large pack. If the Alpha cannot provide security for his pack... the pack kills him." I stared at him in horror. "Father—" "Estes, Emerald Woodland is coming to an end. The Tree of Life is holding us alive. Alive in ignorance and lies." The realization suddenly hit me. My father's crown would one day pass on to me, but its weight could bury me alive.

✒ P.S. I Love You ✒
***
"... I mean, it could be anywhere! Does it have a specific - ?"
"Wait!"
Nico held out a hand to stop Avery from talking. The Artisan looked at the woman and gestured for her to stay put for a while. Her companion nodded and braced herself as she hid behind one of the Grecian statues.
As she made her way towards the library, blatantly ignoring Christopher Lancaster's intimidating portrait, she heard the sound once more. It sounded like someone was sobbing,...
Nico followed the voice, the feeling of dread clawing its way to her heart. She turned around a corner, her radio held up, one finger ready to push the emergency button that would summon Nero's awful singing should something come out of the shadows and attack her.
However, no monster showed itself to her. Instead, she saw a girl sitting on the far right corner of the hall, her arms hugging her knees, her shoulders trembling with every sob she let out.
But, there was something strange about her, and that's her choice of clothes,...
... which looked like it was plucked off the late 1800s.
Nico made her way towards the girl without dropping her guard and knelt beside her, still trying to record every sound she could.
"Yo, you okay?" The Artisan carefully asked the girl, who looked up and finally revealed her face. "What are ya doin' here?"
"I can't come home." The girl simply answered.
"Oh. Where do ya live?"
To this, the girl pointed to the direction of a certain house across Avery's.
Wait. There's only one house across the street! And that's -
Nico furrowed her eyebrows as the girl spoke once more.
"I,... can't come home. I,... can't." She sobbed. "He trapped all of us here."
Trapped? Here?! "How many of you are in here?"
"There are s - six of us h - h ere."
Six?! Nico thought as she sighed and placed a hand on the girl's shoulder, which felt really cold. "No worries. We're gonna bust ya outta here. What's yer name?"
The girl sniffed as she wiped her tears with the sleeve of her shirt. "D - daniella."
"Okay, Daniella. We're gonna help ya. But, ya have to help us first. Tell me who keeps you here." Nico urged as she went on recording their conversation. "Who is he?"
"Him."
"Sorry?"
"Him. Him."
"Umm, who is he? Who - ?"
"Him. Him. Him! Him! Him!"
Daniella went on saying the same word over and over again like a broken record until Nico couldn't take it anymore. She stood up and drew back from the girl, who was still screaming. And the moment she looked to her right to the window, she saw the house,...
... the house that Daniella was pointing at.
The house she used to live at,..
And when she looked back at Daniella, she saw -
"Hey, wanna see me do a trick?"

The gentle old woman gingerly made her way towards the door when she heard the sound of her equally old doorbell ringing once more.
"A moment, please! Ah! Rheumatism,..." She mumbled under her breath and stretched. Then, after that, she opened the door and saw two gentlemen waiting for her outside. The first one, she hasn't seen before. But, the other one,...
"Good evening." V greeted politely as his eyes automatically latched onto her soft, green ones.
"Yes, what can I do for you, gentlemen?" Her eyes wandered at the thing V was holding. A small wooden, antique box.
"We would like to ask you something very,... important."
The old woman's kind features contorted as her eyebrows furrowed and her wrinkles creased even more with her growing confusion. "Oh. If you're looking for - "
"We're not looking for someone." Roman cut her off, albeit politely. He felt his arms going numb from carrying the phonograph for too long, and he felt his feet getting colder and colder as the minutes where they were outside in the harsh weather passed.
"Oh! I see. Well - " the old woman began but, something made her stop abruptly.
That old wooden box. That antique phonograph,...
It,... can't be,...
IMPOSSIBLE!
"If you do not mind us prying," V went on with his inquiry. "... we would very much appreciate it if you would allow us to make some,... inquiries,... regarding - "
"Forgive me, gentlemen. I do not accept solicitations of any kind."
"Solicitations?!" Roman began but he was immediately cut off.
"Thank you so much for your time. Good evening."
And with those words, she closed, no, slammed, the door on their faces.
The poor old woman clutched tightly at her chest as she leaned against the door. Her hands positively trembling, her eyes starting to burn, she never expected that this day would come. She has buried that past along with some distasteful memories when he died. And now that she was reminded of it once again, the memories, along with his pained, old face, started going down on her like a landslide.
She whimpered, covering her eyes with her cold and clammy palms as that familiar sense of dread and melancholy took over her body.
"I implore you. We need to talk." She heard V on the other side of the door. Now that the painful memories were back, she realized that V's face looked very much familiar as much as she wanted to deny it.
That face,...
It’s the same as his.
"Please, go away!" She cried, unable to suppress her feelings any longer. "I can't help you! Please! Leave me alone!"
"Listen," V spoke a few moments after her initial outburst. " ... we are aware that you know something of great importance to us."
"I know nothing! I know nothing!"
"Our friend was hurt." V went on. "And soon, people will perish if we do not take action. Innocent lives will be lost if you do not help us. So, please,..."
V and Roman waited for at least another minute, and yet, she would not open the door. It's as if she didn't want to listen to them or see their faces, at all.
And this only made the poet more convinced that she knew something deeper, and probably darker, than what he initially thought.
As he was about to knock once more, he was surprised to see the door finally being opened by the woman. And when they saw her tear - stained face and her conflicted expression, they could not help but feel guilty.
"Come in." The woman simply said as she finally invited the two men in.
A few moments later, as they sat on the sofa in the living room, the woman placed some things on the table, which were some old, yellowed notes, an album, and a small box. And as she sat across them on another sofa, she tried to relax herself by slowly letting out the pent up tension within her in the form of a long and deep sigh.
"Now, I see no reason why I should remain silent about this for a bit longer. I know what you came for, and to tell you honestly, I dread for the coming of this day. But, now I know that I have no other choice but to face this." She gravely told them, her emerald eyes still glistening with the tears she just shed. "And I do not want any lives lost because of my cowardice."
"You are not a coward." The poet told her as Roman agreed with a nod. "You chose to help us, and I' am thankful for that."
"Very well, then. I do not know if the information I have could help you but, I do hope that you will get enlightened of some things regarding the Lancaster household."
At the sound of the surname, the two men, most especially Roman, sat in attention, fully prepared to receive whatever information they would get from the woman.
The woman cleared her throat, and she finally began.
"If you should know the truth about the matriarch, Lady (Y/N) (L/N), then, yes: she did die in the year 1899. But, not of childbirth, or a fire, or anything else. She died due to unspeakable acts of torture performed by that lunatic doctor, Christopher Lancaster. A few from the clan knew this truth because the doctor, himself, tried to bury it with falsehoods."
"How do you know such things, if we may ask?" V questioned but, deep down, he could sense the answer, all along.
To this, the woman gave them a strange look, followed by a guilty smile and a shook of the head. She went on with her story.
"My mother was taken in by her best friend when she was only two months old. She raised her as her own, fed her, and provided only the best for her. And because of the woman who raised her, she grew up as the most wonderful woman I have ever known.
"And how did she lose her parents? Her mother died due to inhumane mental illness treatment complications, while her father died at a ripe old age, a lonely and miserable man. Their names were,...
"(Y/N) (L/N) and Victor Blake."
A tense and dreadful silence settled on the occupants of the otherwise warm and inviting home as Victor and (Y/N)'s grandchild opened the old album and showed it to the men. And surely enough, they saw the carefully compiled photographs of the couple, together with their closest friends, Daniella and the loyal maidservant in particular. They looked really happy in the photographs, with smiles on their faces and mirth on their eyes.
It's as if the photographs contained their bliss and showed the happiest days of their lives away from their troubles.
However, happy or troubled, the lover's grandchild and her photographs only raised even more questions than answers.
"Avery is not aware of this." Roman uttered as he took a closer look at the photographs. "You are related to her, and she didn't know this! Why didn't you tell her anything?"
"It was never my own choice to share the truth." The grandchild answered. "Miss Avery Edwards is the grandchild of my eldest sister, who was the only one who claimed territory of the (L/N) mansion. Or was it called the Lancaster mansion now? I can't really tell."
"Would you kindly tell us why?" V carefully asked her, letting Roman browse through the old photos for a while.
"Of course. As you may have very well guessed, my mother doesn't want anything to do with the history of the mansion, and the mansion, itself. Or rather, it was the wish of the woman who raised her - Lady Daniella Carrizales. And I would not have known about all of this unspeakable tragedy if it weren't for my, should I say, constant meddling regarding the things that my mother and Lady Daniella were hiding for such a long time.
"That fateful night, my grandmother's loyal servant escaped Lancaster's clutches and went to Lady Daniella to tell her the news of the doctor's crimes to her best friend. At first, she refused, as she was too afraid to stand against the infamous doctor. But, she had no other choice. She, then, rushed towards Victor Blake's American residence near Red Grave to ask him for help.
"It really seemed like a mistake, for the English poet had already settled down with the American woman who he was married with after his and my grandmother's separation." The old woman cleared her throat, feeling very uncomfortable with the tale she was sharing. She sighed, and went on. "You see, by the time my grandmother and Lancaster were married, Victor Blake burned all of the letters and photographs that reminded him of his old lover. The little notes, the scribbles, everything. He really loathed her for her decision to marry Lancaster.
"But, Lady Daniella would not be swayed despite this. Something made him change his mind. And when he finally went back to the mansion to see her, she was,..."
The old woman stopped talking. She bowed her head, her chest heaving due to the heavy breaths she's taking as if she's hyperventilating.
"Are you alright?" Roman worriedly asked her.
The woman held up a hand and nodded, successfully making them know that she's fine and doesn't need help.
"I' am perfectly fine, thank you." She breathed a few moments later. "When Victor finally saw her, he decided to take her out of the house away from Lancaster. You see, she's still alive by then, however, she has become a different person entirely. Gone was the woman he fell in love with. Reduced to a skeletal, malnourished, wounded, violated, and tortured state, it seemed as though her soul was taken out of her. Taken by the evil man who manipulated his way into her life.
"He and Lady Daniella were about to take her when Lancaster intervened. There was a fight between Victor Blake and Christopher Lancaster, the ugly fight that resulted into the English poet's permanent disability as the bones on his legs were broken. Still, Victor prevailed, using his metal cane to gravely injure him.
"A trial was held after that gruesome event, and Victor willingly went to prison for harming the doctor. But, he didn't stay long. The authorities have abruptly released him, following the unearthing of really disturbing things regarding Christopher Lancaster."
To this, the old woman opened the box, revealing its contents, which were mostly newspaper clippings and some old documents which looked worn and ripped in many places due to age and rough handling. She continued as the men studied the contents of the box.
"With Lady Daniella and the loyal servant's testimonies, the court has proven that Lancaster manipulated many people in the past, both in position and not, in order to gain his license as a doctor and a metaphysician. His chambers and offices were investigated and ransacked, and they have found a huge amount of evidence of his cruelty and torture, which also pointed to the murder of another servant by the name of Roselle Velez, the (L/N) household's former master, and the son of the gardener who served that house for a very long time. Lancaster was stripped off his license and his credibility and was sent to prison with a life sentence. Lady Daniella took my mother and brought her to this house to raise her as her own, and cut her ties with Victor Blake. She denied for a very long time to have known the poet out of spite until right before her very own death when she finally revealed the secret to my mother."
The blonde maid named Roselle. That little boy,...
They were all,...
"What happened to Blake after the incident?" V asked her.
"As I've told you, he died at a ripe old age a lonely and miserable man. The day my mother finally told me and my sister the truth about their relationship, I went out and sought him on my own. I found him there, in his old English residence. And when I introduced myself to him, he just,... cried and,..."
The old woman sighed once more as she wiped the tears that unwillingly escaped her tired eyes.
"This poor and lonely crippled man, who, then, could only move with a wheelchair, welcomed me into his own home. He was a really kind person who never hid any secret from me. He told me everything that Lady Daniella refused to tell my mother when she was still alive. Victor gave these to me.”
The woman picked up the yellowed notes and gave them to V, who looked at them and realized they were old letters from Lady Daniella, herself.
And the notes didn't sound friendly, at all.
January 13, 1900
Please, I beg you. Leave me alone. I do not want anything to do with you anymore. I do not want the truth and your ugly secrets taint the growth of (Y/N)'s daughter. I want to raise her without knowing what happened in the past. I want her to grow up away from you.
May 11, 1900
For the last time, I implore you. Leave America. Go back to England. You have a family of your own. Leave me and the child alone. In exchange, I will make sure that she gets the best things in life that you would not be able to give and provide as a father. I will give her my own name. I will make sure that she grows up healthy and unaware of everything. I will give her the life you once promised to my dearly departed best friend. The one promise you were never able to fulfill.
June 12, 1900
Farewell, Victor Blake. And I promise you this: it would be like you have never existed.
"These letters," V began as he looked back at the poet's grandchild. " ... Victor,... tried to get your mother back?"
"Indeed. He told me he wanted to raise her and give her the life she once promised to (Y/N). But, as you can see, Lady Daniella refused. Victor admitted to burning and discarding all of (Y/N)'s mementos in the past but, he regretted it later. Lady Daniella, on the other hand, hid everything, including those documents and the old photographs. She may have refused Victor his very own child, but she refused to burn the last remnants of her best friend's happiest memories on earth. She showed them to my mother before she died.
"And those letters you have in your hand? They were the only things left that reminded Victor of his relationship with (Y/N) and the child born out of their love. That was,... all he had,..."
The woman wiped her tears once more and went on.
"So, I made it a point to bring these photographs the next time I visited England. I showed them to him, and for the very first time, he looked really happy and emotional. He refused to let go of these photographs. He told me everything that happened between him and his beloved (Y/N), of those little letters passed in the middle of the night, of the times they played music together, of those times when they read poetry together, of that one time she confessed, of that very first night he shared with her. He told me all of those with tears, and he told me that he regretted every foolish decision he has made in his miserable life, of leaving her, of hurting her, of marrying another just to forget her.
"He had his marriage to the American woman annulled just to take his beloved under his wing. He took her to England. Despite his own disability, he took care of her, fed her, bathed her. He did everything he can to make up for his own mistakes. But, due to her own disability due to a lot of complications and trauma, she was never able to reciprocate. She died in his arms a month later in the year of 1899. He became even more depressed and crippled with pain and regret and guilt. He slowly lost the ability to walk, and he lost his fame as a writer due to the Lancaster scandal that was forever linked to him. He died without even seeing his daughter in person."
V and Roman watched with difficulty as the old woman wept for her grandfather, and V actually felt sorry for the poet. He may have hated him for what he's done, but he realized that all his life, Victor did everything he can to make up for his mistakes.
But, he knew that the poet was too late.
And now, despite finally knowing everything about (Y/N) and Victor, the single, and most important, piece of the puzzle was still missing.
"But, that wasn't the only information you came for, is that right?" The woman told them. "You came to know about something sinister in that house, didn't you?"
V only nodded, and to this, the old woman continued.
"The evidence of Lancaster's crimes weren't the only things that the authorities found that day. Apparently, there was evidence of Demon worship in his chambers, of a particular evil entity he prayed on for success as a doctor. Lancaster never denied any of this. He even left a conspicuous message before dying. Something like, one more soul. He wrote it in his own blood before committing suicide.
"The authorities may have abandoned his case after his death but, I pressed on and did my own research regarding Lancaster's Demon worship after my grandfather's death. And I have found something truly terrifying."
She took one last thing from the box and showed it to both V and Roman. It was a booklet written in a different language, and when V opened it, he saw that it contained disturbing images of a ritualistic sacrifice that could, apparently, grant the Summoner everlasting fame and fortune.
And from the macabre illustration, alone, V saw that the sacrifice required seven innocent souls, emotionally tormented and brutally tortured as a way to prepare them for the Demon who would grant the wishes. The person would, then, keep the trapped souls in a container, as clearly stated by the art.
Roselle, that little boy,...
(Y/N), herself,...
"Bedlam." The old woman pronounced. "It is the name of the Demon that Lancaster worshipped. One of the three Demons who served under a higher evil entity called Mundus. Pandemonium of Destruction, Maelstrom of Calamity, and Bedlam of Insanity. Lancaster was able to sacrifice two souls using the servant called Roselle and the gardener's son. He died without having to complete the ritual."
"But, you said he wrote one more soul." Roman interjected. "Does that mean that he was able to sacrifice more before his death other than those two?"
"No. He was able to take one more." V interrupted as he finally opened the phonograph, letting them hear Lancaster's awful voice as he performed the inhumane mental illness treatment on (Y/N).
"My,... God!" The woman breathed, eyes wide with disbelief at the disturbing sounds coming from the phonograph.
Before things could get really traumatizing, V turned off the antique device and proceeded with his own investigation. "Lancaster tormented (Y/N) through means of this torturous treatment. She may not have died instantly back then, but I think he was able to get her soul. Roselle died of torture, I know this for certain,... for I have seen it. Other than that," V paused, his heart racing due to the fact that the missing pieces were finally being put together in place. He could finally solve the mystery and end Lancaster's torture. " ... I have seen this boy several times during my stay in the mansion. I have no clue as to his death, but I know for a fact that he's one of those souls. Nico was able to escape the clutches of death but, if she didn't, she would've been the fourth soul."
"Dios Mio,..." Roman exclaimed as he put a hand against his forehead.
V exhaled and went on, looking at the woman straight in the eye. "Victor Blake's disability was caused by Lancaster, himself, am I correct?"
"Yes."
"If I may ask, how did Lady Daniella die?"
The old woman's eyebrows shot up to her hairline as realization finally kicked in. "I remember she mentioned she's having nightmares and evening frights before her death. I think she actually went to see a Psychiatrist regarding this but, it didn't help. I think it's what actually made her reveal the secrets to my mother. It's because she thought she's guilty, and this guilt and regret would go away if she revealed the truth."
V nodded, then braced himself.
He knew who the sixth soul was! He knew!
"May I ask,... the name of the loyal servant who stayed with (Y/N)?"
"Oh, that girl. Her name was - "
But, she was interrupted as Roman's phone suddenly began ringing. The man held up one finger as he took his phone out from his pocket and answered the call.
"Sweetheart, how are - ?"
"Very funny, Roman!" V heard Avery's voice from the phone.
And then, all of a sudden, he felt shivers run up and down his spine.
"Are you alright, sweetheart?"
"What is this surprise, hmm?"
"Surprise? What surprise?"
"Huh? You just called me and told me to come back home because you have a surprise for me! There's no one here! Where are you right now? Are you with someone else?"
V snatched the phone from Roman's hand. Deciding to talk to Avery, himself, he said, "Miss Avery, it's me."
"V? Where are you right now? This is not funny! It's too dark in here! It's - "
"Listen, if you can get out of that house, then do not hesitate to do so now. We'll get back immediately and - "
"You are too late, Victor Blake."
V almost dropped the phone as he heard the unmistakable voice of Christopher Lancaster on the other end. And this made Roman go into full panic mode. He snatched the phone from V and started screaming at it.
"YOU, MONSTER! DON'T YOU PUT A SINGLE FINGER ON HER, OR I'LL - !"
"You cannot win against me. Now, if you want her back, I suggest you come over here and play. We have a score to settle, remember? Or have you forgotten about your dear, old friend? Come here, and let us end this. Is that clear, Victor?"
And with that cold and subtle warning that seemed to come straight from the grave, the phone died.

Little Phineas had no idea what he got himself into that day when he saw Lady (Y/N)'s fiancé and Roselle doing something,... strange,... in one of the guest rooms. The door happened to be slightly ajar, and being the curious little thing that he was, he took a peek,...
... and saw Lord Lancaster on top of Roselle. He was not wearing pants while she was totally naked. They looked like their bodies were connected as they seemingly trembled like they were trying to shake the bed, or something.
He was so confused, and despite this, he didn't tell anyone what he saw.
Then, one day, Lord Lancaster approached him with a smile on his face.
"Good boy. Little precious boy. Come over here." The older man beckoned as he kneeled before him. "Do you want a treat for being such a good boy?"
Well, what child would refused that?
With a smile on his face, he excitedly went towards the room that the doctor told him to get his treats,...
And then, darkness.
When he opened his eyes once more, he saw strange people in the house, particularly that man who looked like the poet Victor Blake. His clothes looked strange, and he has some strange dark markings on his skin.
"How can I be of service to you?" The man asked him.

TIME (ONEUS FANTASY AU)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Amber's POV
I am falling, I am falling. What do I do? I closed my eyes and covered my ears due to fear. I peeked and a colorful blinding light met my sight. I opened my eyes and looked up, the hole from above is gone.
"Why? Just why? How will I escape now?"
Slowly losing hope, I closed my eyes and let my body fall freely. Maybe this is the end? What sins did I commit to experience this? When will I stop falling? The wind is becoming stronger and I feel that I am falling faster now. I am ready to die. I'm sorry my brother, my mom. A tear escaped my eye and I fell onto something hard and died.
I opened my eyes and I am surrounded by trees in which the leaves are in rainbow color, pastels and black.
"Oh, I didn't die. I thought that was the end."
In front of me is a huge wooden gate covered with vines. I stood up and went closer to the gate, there is a keyhole in it, but where's the key? I looked around to my surroundings but it seems that there is no other way out.
"Ouch! What the fu-" Something hard fell onto my head causing me to flinch and rub my head. I looked above to see if there's anyone but found none.
"What was that?!"
When I looked down, I found a key with an emerald stone on it and picked it up.
"Woah— this is kinda heavy for a normal key,"
"Maybe this is it? Hmm."
I inserted the key and twisted it.
click!
Looks like luck is on my side today! I quickly withdraw the key and entered the gate without hesitation.
"It's so bright in here, I can't see anything." And with that I heard the gate shut. This is bad.
I turned around and tried pulling the gate but it doesn't budge. What am I gonna do now? I let out a heavy sigh.
"I am now trapped! My, my! Hmmp!" Angrily, I stomped on my way to the forest of which I wasn't familiar with. There were fruits I haven't seen or heard of but as much as I want to take and eat those, I'm afraid I won't make it 'til tomorrow.
As I am walking I feel like someone is following me and it stopped me for a second before I continue my journey to find the way out of this weird forest. My eyes wandered while I am walking, and I must say, even if the trees don't look normal to me, the place is beautiful and serene but not until I heard a loud growl.
"EEEH!?" A large white wolf with red eyes and blue fangs lunged in front of me causing me to jump and drop the key I was holding.
"Please don't come any closer!" I took a step back.
growl.
The large wolf stepped forward and onto the key.
"Little miss riding hood, what are you doing in this dangerous forest?"
"Perhaps, you want to be a dinner to the animal in front of you."
"I'm not little and I am not red riding hood! Wait— you can talk?!"
"Of course I do and I didn't say red, you're wearing plum! Why do you have the key to the front gate?"
I looked to my clothes and it was indeed plum and just like red riding hood's. I thought I'm still wearing my pyjamas, heck!
"I don't know either! It just fell out of nowhere!"
"Liar," the wolf growled loudly.
Suddenly, the wolf glowed and transfromed into a human. He picked up the key and shoved it into his pocket.
"What are you?!"
"Why should I tell you?" He snickered and walked closer.
"Don't answer my question with another question!" I took a step back.
"Aww, come on! I don't bite!"
"I don't believe you."
"Then don't."
"What are you, really?"
"No, what are YOU? Why are you here? How did you get into this forest? When did you came and where are you from?"
"Woah— did you just use all the WH questions?"
"Oh, what am I asking, I won't tell you until you give that key back."
"I will give the key if you answer all my questions. It's a promise."
"Fine. I am a human, I don't know how did I end up here, I just fell from a hole and poof! I'm transported in front of a huge gate. And I am from Earth, unlike you!"
"Earth? Of course, we're on Earth!" He shook his head while my jaw dropped from the information.
"You mean, you're from the mortal realm? Then you don't have any supernatural powers? You'll die here! You won't survive!" He handed back the key to me just as he promised.
"And I don't bite humans! Yikes!" He cringed and rolled his eyes.
"Wow, how nice of you, but atleast I won't be some dinner. Thanks! And what are you?"
"I'm a shapeshifter. And my name is Keonhee."
"Oh, I see."
"Is that all the reaction you've got?"
"What do you want me to say? Oh wow! You're a shapeshifter, cool! Can you transform into a worm for me? "
He rolled his eyes and flicked my forehead.
"Ow! It hurts!" I rubbed my forehead and glared at him.
"Tell me your name, human."
"I'm Amber."
"Nice to meet you, Amber."
"Well, nice meeting you too Mr. Shapeshifter but I need to hurry and get out of this place." I bowed to him before walking away.
"Wait for me! It's dangerous for a human to walk alone, there are lots of trickster creatures here!" Keonhee ran to my side and stopped me. Then, he transformed into a great lion in a snap. "You might get lost and be trapped here, forever. Now, go climb to my back and I'll take you there."
"Why are you helping me?" I said as I was climbing onto is back and gripping on his hair tightly. Once I settled down on a safe position he started running fast.
"I'm not bad, you know. That was just for a show," he laughed before adding, "I need to know your intentions, good or bad. So that I can help you or kill you, right there, at that moment."
"Sounds scary." He laughed at my comment.
"So, are we friends now? I mean, you're helping me and all."
"If that's how you call it."
"Woah! You're pretty friendly! I really thought you're cruel and harsh."
"I'm not as bad as you think."
"By the way, perhaps you can tell me the way out?"
"We just need to go straight ahead, then I'll drop you off near the pond, after crossing the lake someone will lead you the way out of the forest."
"Sounds easy."
"Not really." He laughed before continuing, "Let's fasten our pace before the sunset."
"Isn't it still early?"
"No... The time here flies so fast that you won't even notice that the sun is setting down."
"Woah, woah— hold on, you mean it's afternoon already?" What a strange place, I thought. And it kinda scares me.
He roared as an answer to my question.
"Don't worry, we're near the lake."
After several minutes, we have reached the lake and it's now his cue to leave. I jumped down from his back while he transformed back into human appearance.
"Thank you so much for leading the way, I could have been lost without your help."
"You're welcome and I'm sorry I can't go any further."
"No no no, it's okay. You have been much of a help, Keonhee. Thank you!"
"I'll get going now, until we meet again, Amber."
"Goodbye, Mister Shapeshifter the great." I waved at him.
He waved back and smiled before transforming into a butterfly and flew to the opposite way. This is it, I'm getting out of this place!
I walked further and reached boundary of the land. I looked for something I can use to cross the lake or something a I can step on so that I don't have to get my clothes wet, yet there is none. Neither slabs of rock are scattered on the lake. Desperate, I tried to dip my foot only to be stopped.
"What do you think you are doing?" A deep voice spoke from behind which sent shivers on my body.
I turned around to see the owner of the voice and said, "I was just trying to cross the lake, I'm sorry if I did anything wrong." I met a young man with a very attractive, beautiful yet masculine facial features, standing tall and dressed like a prince in white meters away from me. (see his concept photos wearing white)
"Who are you?" His eyes are beautiful but it is staring right at mine like looking straight to my soul.
"The name's Amber, Your Highness."
"Intruding my territory without any permission, a rude stranger, I see."
"Your Highness, you misunderstood my intentions." I suddenly became nervous and my heart is beating crazily, his accusation is wrong! "I didn't know that someone owns the lake so I tried to cross it and find the way out of this forest."
"I didn't ask you to explain, did I?" He walked towards me with an unreadable expression on his face.
"I'm s-sorry." I said as I looked down from embarassment. "Do you know who I am?" I shook my head as an answer while keeping my head dow. "That is a sign of disrespect, look at me when I am talking to you, " He lifted my chin and made me look at his beautiful face. "Much better."
"Do you know who I am?" I'm afraid to answer his question, I don't even know where am I. He might get angry at me if he doesn't like the way I answered.
"F-forgive me but I am new to this place." He smirked at my answer before raising his brow. "You should have gathered information before setting foot onto my place."
"I am Xion, the water god and the keeper of this lake," His voice is laced with confidence and authority as he introduced himself. But what shocked me are his next words, "and I know who you are, human— or should I say, Amber?" stunned, I can't think of anything to say nor forgot how to breathe. How did he know?
"You're curious, aren't you? I'm a water god, I can see right through everything. I know what you are up to and what you want to do. I can see that you have clean intention and a pure heart. But you must not let your guard down. It may lead you to danger."
"Your Highness, I need to get back home sooner. I was told to cross the lake first and after, someone will guide me the way out." I am not nervous anymore and did not stutter while explaining in calm manner.
"And that is me. But you need to answer 3 riddles before I let you cross the lake."
"Sure, Your Highness."
"First riddle: I speak without a mouth and hear without ears. I have no body, but I come alive with wind. What am I?"
"Speak without mouth, hear without ears, doesn't have body but comes alive with wind. What could it be? Hmm." I sighed as I think for the answer. What doesn't have body but can speak and hear? Think Amber, think!
"It's just the first riddle, right? But why is is so difficult already?" He laughed at my comment, "Don't take it literally."
Right! I almost forgot about it, "I come alive with wind." Wind is the key! It must be an inanimate object for it to come alive with wind. "Let me give you a hint, what do you throw but goes back to you?"
"Boomerang?" He laughed and rolled his eyes on my answer, "Wrong, boomerang doesn't speak, you only have one chance left to answer, and I must say, you're bad at riddles."
"What do you throw but goes back to you that speaks without mouth, hear without words that comes alive in wind? What kind of-" before I could finish my sentence I realized something, when you're standing on a mountain if you shout 'yes' it will shout back 'yes' out of nowhere. It will speak without mouth and hear what you shouted without having ears. I get it! What you throw isn't a real object, it could be words! My eyes went wide realizing the answer.
"Echo is the answer." I smiled at him.
"Took you long enough for the first question."
"I'm not good at these things!" We both laughed as I spoke the truth, the only thing I am good at is working hard.
"Next riddle: What word in the English language does the following: the first two letters signify a male, the first three letters signify a female, the first four letters signify a great, while the entire world signifies a great woman. What is the word?"
"Can you repeat?"
He sighed before doing so, "What word in the English language does the following: the first two letters signify a male, the first three letters signify a female, the first four letters signify a great, while the entire world signifies a great woman. What is the word?" I hummed as I think of an answer, this riddle is confusing!
"What two-letter word signifies a male? He. The first three letters signify a female, but what do you add to he to make it signify a female? Hmm—oh letter R! Then it will make the word 'Her'. But what signifies a great that starts with 'her'?" I squinted my eyes as I think.
"He-, her-, hero? Great hero?"
"Wow, this time you're fast. I should have given another riddle." He said in a joking manner and laughed.
"That's mean! Don't distract me from thinking! I might lose my concentration!" He shook his head before nodding.
"Now, what makes a great woman? He-Her-Hero. If the great is hero, then the great woman is the female counterpart of a hero! The answer is Heroine!" He smiled at me meaning my answer is correct.
"The last riddle: What is seen in the middle of March and April that can’t be seen at the beginning or end of either month?" I knitted my brows and he smiled at me thinking I am confused but no but his smile turned into a confused one when I laughed.
"Oh no, not that one! Hahaha! I know the answer to that! You know, I have a brother who likes to ask useless and weird questions out of the blue and it was hilarious!" I can barely contain my laugh as I remembered my brother asking me this question—wait, what does my brother look like again? It made me stop laughing. I tried remembering his face but I can't.
"What's wrong? You suddenly became serious."
"I told you I have a brother, right? I forgot how does he look like just now and I can't remember his face even his name." I said, my voice has hint of sadness. He was about to speak when I cut him off, "It's okay, maybe later I will remember his face and name again." I said with a sad smile and he smiled back.
"So what's your answer?"
"The answer is letter 'R'." I said firmly and he nodded.
"Well, you got everything correct and as said on the condition, you can now cross the lake." He smiled and was transported to the opposite of the land. Suddenly, huge slabs of crystals appeared one by one from the lake and formed a straight path towards the opposite land. I carefully made my way to avoid falling to the water. When I reached the other side of the lake, Xion offered his hand to be a support so I won't slip. "Let's go, before the sky gets dark. Hurry."
He held my hand and led the way. Once we reached the end of the forest, he let go of my hand and light glowed from his hand. When the light disappeared, he is now holding a sling bag like the ones in medieval period and a key with blue stones on top of it. Xion handed it to me and I accepted it with a smile. "Thank you!"
"Inside that bag is a purse with several cents inside. It is enough for you to survive few days to your next destination. And that key, you must keep it after."
"Thank you, Your Highness. Until we meet again."
"Goodbye, Amber." with that, he disappeared in a blink of an eye. I went over to the gate and inserted the key. The stone turned into a shade of emerald and the the gate opened. As Xion said, I took the key and kept it inside the bag alongside with the key I have earlier.
"As of now I have two keys with me, but what am I supposed to do with both?" I entered the gate without any hesitation.

Unlimited Together, we're unlimited Together, we'll be the greatest team there's ever been, Glinda - Dreams, the way we planned 'em If we work in tandem There's no fight we cannot win
Just you and I defying gravity With you and I defying gravity They'll never bring us down...
                                                            CHAPTER ONE
"Glinda, come with me. Think of what we could do! Together…"
Time dragged to a standstill as poor, bewildered Glinda-née-Galinda Upland stood somewhere she definitely shouldn't be, riddled with indecision. Never had Elphaba Thropp looked at her with such intensity, such desperation in her eyes. No one in all the land of Oz had! Not Fiyero, nor any other classmate, nor Elphaba herself before today. Even during those classes at the university in which she had spoken so passionately about the mistreatment of sentient Animals, she had not seemed so… fervential? Was that a word?
And here she was, hoping to enlist her help in this cause. Was she out of her tiny verdant mind?!
"Elphaba… I…" Her throat worked to swallow as she glanced between the barricaded attic door and the brilliantly green hand clutching the broom handle. Wind seemed to come from nowhere, swirling around them and blowing the long strands of raven-black hair around her strong jawline. Now she had to turn her eyes away from those of her roommate, which she could no longer meet; too much intensity that made her stomach feel strange. Then again, Elphaba's intensity had always done that to pretty much everyone she met.
"Well?" the newly-awakened wizardess demanded of her. "Are you coming?"
What a crazy notion! How brazen, how reckless! She couldn't simply uproot and follow on Elphaba's heels. How could she? Her entire life was at Shiz University; her classes, hopes for a brilliant future in sorcery. Following that, a modern, Ozmopolitan life, and the prospect of becoming more than just another tittering debutante, beholden to her family name. Friends, admirers…
Fiyero…
"Elphie, you're trembling." Was she coming? Casting around for some kind of distraction, she found a large black cloak discarded upon the floor. At least it matched her hat. "Here, put this around you…"
As Glinda fastened it around her friend's bony shoulders, heart aching from the prospect of losing one of her dearest companions in such a ridiculous way as this, she decided: no, she could not go with her. Of course, she had great respect for the sentient Animals of Oz — the deposed Dr. Dillamond especially. They were every bit as important as the human persons that she attended Shiz with. Why shouldn't they be? They could walk, and talk, and exchange ideas the same as anyone else.
At least, they could. A recent shift in tense from present to past. Catching and caging them was a deplorable idea, and she had been equally sickened by that class in which they were forced to look at the Lion in its prison, presented as a spectacle instead of a person. The Wizard and Madame Morrible should be ashamed!
But Elphaba truly was taking things too far. Some things simply defied her understanding. All of this fuss, over sticking a few pairs of wings on a few monkeys?! Her unsociable roommate could be mistaken, after all; perhaps the Wizard had simply flipped to the wrong page in the Grimmerie before handing it to her. It needn't be his fault, not necessarily. Didn't the great leader of their entire Land of Oz get any benefit of a doubt? And what was so awful about monkeys having wings? Wouldn't that only improve their lives? She herself wouldn't mind having a set, being able to soar above the clouds…
"GLINDA!"
Rousing herself from her introspection, she took a step forward. Perhaps she had taken too long to contemplate; they didn't have the luxury of time on their side. In the end, of course, it was mostly the thought of the lean, masculine Fiyero and his easy charm that prompted her to tell Elphaba what she must tell her. But she needn't be harsh about it; she could break the news to her gently, with the warmth of their friendship and a wish for her future. She deserved that much.
"Oh, Elphie…" A hand laid on the one holding the broom, causing Elphaba to blink at her in surprise. "I hope-"
There came more pounding at the door. Elphaba's emerald eyes flicked toward it, then back to her in a wild panic as a gruff voice on the other side barked, "Break it down! For His Ozness!"
Cursing under her breath, the black-clad girl straddled the broom, the Wizard's spellbook still tucked under her arm as she bade her, "Get on! There isn't time — we can discuss this later!"
"Wh-what?! We can't, surely they wouldn't truly-"
Her words were eclipsed by the sound of wood splintering. Apparently, they surely, truly would.
"Galinda, it's do or die! Get on this broom now!"
Do or die. They wouldn't use deadly force… would they?
The attic door suggested otherwise.
Before she knew what was happening, Glinda was on the back of a broom, arms looped around Elphaba's waist. They were already rising into the air before her mind caught up with her body, and she squeaked, "Wait!"
In vain. The guards were nearly within arm's reach of them when Elphaba rose above their heads, cackling madly at the feeling. Glinda was too terrified to share in her joy at the sensation of flight, but in the back of her mind, she knew it was one of the most exhilarating experiences she'd ever had in her lifetime. With an effort of will, they were shooting toward a large stained glass window on the Western wall.
"ELPHIE, LOOK OUT!"
But she needn't have bothered shouting; making things explode was something at which her green-hued classmate had always excelled, even before classes helped her hone the magic within her. Amid a shower of breaking glass, the two exited the Royal Palace.
Soon, the Emerald City was laid out below them, sparkling and majestic. Glinda caught her breath. Every street and every spire reflected the sunlight, dazzling her eyes as they hung in midair. Had any of her fellow Ozians ever seen this? Had they been so lucky?
"I don't know where to go now," Elphaba confessed, frantic voice intruding on Glinda's reverie. "Back to Shiz? Do we… should we get Nessa, or Fiyer-"
"NO!" When Elphaba twisted around to look at her, strong, severe features mildly surprised underneath the brim of the large black hat, Glinda shrank back from the stare as she added, "We… don't have the right to drag them into our sensationifical mistake! This is something we've done, we…" Her face went completely ashen. "We're criminals. You are, and I'm your accomplice, and…"
Setting her proud jaw, Elphaba turned back around and gazed down at the ground, at the guards amassing in the streets, though they had no hope of catching the two women suspended at such a height. Eventually, her eyes slid closed in shame. This was a deeper look of pain than she had ever seen in her roommate's forestful features, which looked yet greener due to the twinkling emeralds that lit up the cityscape below. But she did not speak on that matter.
Elphie looks so phosphorescent in the sunlight, she suddenly noticed. Though that thought seemed to come from nowhere.
"We'll go to my home, to my father. They won't think to look there right away, and then…"
"And then?"
"And then… I don't know."
Glinda swallowed hard as she tightened her hold on Elphaba, the vertigo finally catching up to her adrenaline-soaked brain. "Th-then maybe we'll drop in on my family? Or… well, we'll just have to think about that later, I suppose. But yes, let's go see your father, and hope that he doesn't… turn us away."
"I'll head West first," Elphaba said, even as the broom tilted in that direction. "To confuse them, and then North until we're past Shiz, and then back East to Munchkinland. Might save us having any unpleasant surprise visits, at least for a while."
"A better plan than I had, which was 'say you're sorry'. Don't think that would work now."
"Probably not, but… oh, let's just be rid of this place!"
And without another word, Elphaba shot off toward the lowering sun, gliding over the tall skyscrapers, the gorgeous palaces and museums. Ones Glinda was terrified she would never see again.

Only once they had made good their escape and circled the Emerald City and its environs by a wide berth did either of them speak. It was Elphaba, turning in her seat to make herself more easily heard. Her voice was hoarse from the earlier shouting, and perhaps with grief, but Glinda didn't want to assume anything.
"Before we left, you were going to say something."
"What?" Glinda whispered, then cleared her throat and repeated it louder, so as to be heard over the sounds of rushing wind. "What?"
"You… were going to tell me you didn't want to come."
Her heart seized. "Oh. Well… please, Elphaba, try to understand… it's not that I-"
"No, no. You had every right not to… follow me on this dangerous crusade. I'd think you a coward, but not a fool; I'm the fool." Her body became more and more tense, which was impossible for Glinda not to notice due to their close proximity. "The Wizard, Madame Morrible, and the entirety of the Ozian military… they're all intent on the suppression of Animal rights, and here I am, thinking any good and decent citizen of Oz should want to band together to stop it! They should, if they have a damn conscience, but they…"
Some time went by with the wind whipping at their faces before Glinda prompted in a soft voice, "They?"
"They have something to lose. I do not. I'm just a hideous green bean with a weird trick or two up my sleeve — unlike them, who all have family and reputations to protect."
"Hmm… that is true." Wincing at how that had come across, Glinda hastily added, "About them, not you, obviously! Because you do have a family, right? And… and a couple of friends, at least. And you're not hideous, just perhaps… deciduous!"
The hands tightened on the broom as she growled, "Why was I put in this position? All I've ever wanted was to… work with the Wizard, ask him to guide me, and maybe…" Her voice had grown more and more embarrassed, and she finally fell silent again. "Nevermind. I'm just a romantic idiot. And he's just a charlatan. Maybe we really were made for each other from the beginning. A couple of bumble-brains."
In all of those words, Glinda heard something unsaid, as she was so used to searching for when her roommate spoke. An apology. The antisocial thing had been so opposed to interaction in the first place, and only through steady insistence from her — and from Elphie's sister, Nessarose — did she begin to blossom from her tightly-clenched bud. Of course, she still preferred isolation and study, but at least they had begun to get her to attend various social activities, to travel all the way to Emerald City, even if only for one short day. There had to be some room left for understanding her idiosyncrasies.
"Aww, Elphie…" How could she word this? "It isn't that I didn't want to come with you, alright? I admire your stance, your zeal! You've got a moxieness when it comes to Animals, and I think you have a chance to do some real good in this world! Or did have, anyway… I just… your cause is not my cause, you know? So it wasn't about you, it was… a difference in interests! Does that make sense?"
After a moment to mull that over, she more felt than heard Elphaba sigh. "It does. I'm… you're right, and I should have waited to listen to you instead of pushing you to join me."
"Too late now," she muttered.
"It is."
"Oh, no, I- that isn't how I meant- I don't blame-"
"You should; you have every right. I let my fury at how the Wizard tricked me make me forget that you were there, and that you were with me. That my actions would reflect badly on you, as well. That was selfish." Another sigh, louder, more stunned. "Wow… I've completely ruined your life."
"What?! Come on, Elphie, don't be so dramatical. Nothing's 'ruined', we just have to… okay, I don't know exactly what we 'have to', but there's a thing we have to do to make this right, and we'll figure out what it is! Together!"
"But you shouldn't…" Shaking her head back and forth, she admitted, "Guess it doesn't matter anymore. Let's just figure out where we're going and what we're doing right now, and the rest of it later."
Nodding, Glinda pressed her face into Elphaba's back. Her warmth was becoming more and more necessary, with the chill wind pulling her own body heat away. That was odd; given how cold and standoffish the woman had been during their year at the university, she would never have guessed she had any heat at all. Like the reptiles she resembled with that green skin and those sharp features. A pleasant surprise, especially in such a time of need.
And that's how things will be for a while, she admitted to herself as their speed increased, skimming them over treetops. Until we get this all straightened out, we're going to need to stick together, whether we like it or not. Just hope we don't end up hating each other before it's all said and done. Not two best friends like us. Wouldn't that be an awfully tragic tragedy?
                                                              To Be Continued…
