#I honestly don't think Alfred would let Jason die

Just how wild do you like your Batfam cryptids? I've got ideas for days.

One is a wing fic where all the bats essentially end up half demon. Thomas and Martha make a deal with Alfred to help fix the city and clean up the curses and everything, and. Alfred asks for 'the souls of your descendants' at the point, not caring much for humanity but hoping to get ahead of those pesky demons in his soul collection (so and so said he has Constantine's soul but that's only a piece! What about a bunch of souls that have been tainted by the spirit of a city that has never had reason to hope? Now those are some rare and dark souls).

The Waynes were hoping he'd take their souls instead but he refuses (maybe they're too full of hope or something) but, over time, he grows attached and ends up giving Bruce a shard of his power, allowing him to transform into a demonic winged form based on an animal for his protection after his parents die. When he's young the form is a snowy owl, but once he come back and became Batman his wings have changed. Each of the babies is the same way. As Robin, they gain their baby wings, but, once they move to a new name, their wings evolve.

'The Demon's Head' isn't just a fancy title, the Al'ghul's are demon descended, so Damien is at least a quarter demon even at the beginning, but Alfred's power can't be passed genetically like they thought, so he was born grounded. In this, he shows up sooner, Talkia asking Jason to take Damien with him to his father since she knows her father will kill him for being wingless.

Tim, poor baby. He couldn't fly as Robin because his wings were a shattered mimicry of Jason's Robin wings. He felt like he was in the shadow of the previous Robin, making the 'replacement' nickname sting even more, but, eventually, he grows into the wings of a cardinal and learns to fly.

I'm not sure if Alfred marks Barbara as his person, but if not, maybe he regrets not doing so, thinking that she might not have ended up paralyzed if he'd given her power. But also she's not really considered a 'Wayne descendant' life the kids Bruce adopted, so he'd have to directly make the deal with her. Maybe he does this with Stephanie when she comes along, still thinking about how Barbara might've been better off with a deal. Also, he keeps trying to hold off on gathering their souls because he's grown attached. I figure he'd probably end up wanting to turn them into proper demons too tho when they eventually die but, for now, until the city has been restored (if it ever will be), the Batfam is essentially immortal, and Alfred might be pulling some strings so no one realizes the Waynes are as well. As a side note, I debated Alfred x Lady Gotham for this story.

Then I had a dpxdc version of this where the wings were still demonic in origin but basically Scarecrow and Bruce are many many family lines removed cousins from an ancestor who was siblings with Jack Nightingale. On top of that, Danny had wings but they got charred when he was electrocuted. This one also has Clock x Pariah and they have wings due to something to do with ghosts, Danny gets a cloak made out of their feathers while his ghost side slowly grows its own wings (but he'll never have wings as a living again).

Honestly I love both of these ideas, but what if they were say, combined.

Alfred gifts Bruce a shard of his power- everyone knows the Waynes have wings, even if in most cases too small to fly. But the wings are feathered, usually bright and flashy for the men who inherit the trait.

Which means they're very identifiable. But like you said, Alfred gets (ugh) attached to this little mortal. He's practically raised him and honestly thinks it's adorable watching him manipulate the other richfolk at galas into thinking he's such a "polite young man." Bruce is practically his baby!

So he gifts him a bit of his blood (which we know via Constantine can extend ones lifespan including giving them a bit of healing) and an itty bitty piece of his own power. Just enough for Bruce to be able to willingly call upon it. Just enough for him to disappear into shadows. Just enough for his eyes to gain a hint of an unholy glow. Just enough for a hint of claws. Just enough for feathered wings to shift into jagged mimicries of his own.

You know what could be an interesting thing? The wings are Realms in origin. We know the FentonNightingales separated into the Fentons and Nightingales some time after Jack, so whose to say that the Nightingales didn't get into magic. Perhaps they were given a gift to thank them after a bit of protection or assistance. And the infinite realms are well, infinite. It attaches to all worlds, including say the more demonic ones. But whose to say none of the Fentons made a deal or three in the generations following. They were witch hunters after all, perhaps they need something to keep up with the "traitors" of their bloodline.

Perhaps a deal which resulted in those matching wings.

Now, how could they find out their relation with the Fentons? While there could be the adoption route, what if instead it was right after Danny's accident.

He died screaming, visibly got electrocuted, his wings are torched, there's no way they're not taking him to the hospital. Which means things like blood tests, maybe even a donated organ or two because someone doesn't get blasted with that much electricity without consequences.

Which, it's the batfamily, they definitely have alarms set up for any sort of family pings for both themselves and their rogues. Just in case.

Also had no idea where to put it but if this includes demons and ghosts feeding on fear, or emotions in general, then Scarecrow could be instinctively attempting to feed and grow his wings. Also he deserves raven or rook wings. Maybe a jay's if you wanna go for color.

Oh my gosh, even if Alfred and Gotham don't get together, they definitely have tea together and spar. They're definitely co-parenting either platonically or romantically, it doesn't matter this is their specialist lil boy. Who then brings even more of the specialist lil ones ever!

God I love the implications of Clockwork and Pariah creating a cloak of wings for a ghostling for them to use as their feathers slowly grow back. Love what that implies for the culture of the ghost zone. Love the idea of it maybe having an influence on Danny's wings in ghost form since a ghost's appearance is influenced by their image about themself.

I’d love to see Tim get the love and support he deserved at the beginning of his time as Robin, and also batmom not putting up with this whole “he’s not my son, he’s my partner” excuse of borderline mistreatment :)

"Bruce Thomas," you say, the door to the study banging open as you swept into the room. A tiny hurricane of indignation and righteous fury.

"Oh dear," Alfred said taking a step back from the desk to get out of your mental cross hairs. It wasn't often that you took your husband to task for something but- the scoldings had been known to leave him thoroughly chastened AND leave anyone standing too close similarly afflicted.

"Sweetheart," he started, trying to head off the storm. Not realizing until you cut him off with a glare that it was already too late. You were in a lather and you would probably go toe to toe with God if he would deign to step into the ring.

You lean on the desk, heedless of his papers scattered about and smile dangerously, "Please. Tell me you didn't tell that child that he isn't your son he's your partner? Tell me he misunderstood you."

Bruce looked away uncomfortable and exhaled slowly, "Y/N I don't want-"

"Then you shouldn't have brought him home," you hiss. "A 9-year-old isn't your fucking partner, Bruce. A 9-year-old is a child that needs rules and boundaries and love."

Slowly Bruce met your eyes and nodded. He could hear the hurt and the pain. He'd brought Tim to the manor to protect him. And regardless of your feelings about it- the way having a little boy in the house again made you miss Jason so much you thought you were going to die. You'd opened your arms and let him close to you. Because your feelings weren't Tim's fault.

"You call him your partner again and so help me Bruce-"

"I'll apologize?" he tried. He'd have preferred you just come in and shout at him. The fury was giving way to tears, and he had no defense for that.

"With Icecream and a fucking puppy if need be," you tell him, pulling back to wipe away angry tears. "Who says that to someone? Have you lost your mind?"

"Madam," Alfred said, clearing his throat, proffering a box of tissues as Bruce sat there paralyzed.

"I'll put the money in the-"

"Bah," Alfred said waving the words away as you took a tissue and turned your back for a second to wipe your face. "Sometimes swear words are warranted. I think this may be such an instance." He shot Bruce a look and glanced towards you as you were about to sweep back out of the room.

And All Bruce could do was make a little helpless gesture. When you'd swept over the threshold, he'd expected there to be an actual fight. Not this. A Fight he could handle. But hell if he knew what to do when you cried. He hadn't known the entire 10 years you'd been together- it wasn't logical. And it didn't happen often enough for him to establish a pattern.

They watched you go and Bruce exhaled slowly, "I should go find Tim-"

"Probably wise," Alfred said disapprovingly. "Honestly Bruce- I know it's been hard. But. You weren't the only person who lost a son. And before she even had time to breathe, you handed her another child- and you expect her NOT to be fiercely protective of him?"

Bruce winced. "I didn't think-"

"No," Alfred snorted, "That much is obvious."

Thank you for the ask! You truly went for the most difficult questions, Anon, oof. Once again I will put my answers under the cut, because it inevitably got kinda long. 

19. Who tells their family/friends about their relationship first?

...Sigh. There are just so many ways this could go, it really depends on the circumstances of them getting together. But in all of the scenarios, it'd either be Bruce having to tell people first -- or them finding out on their own about his relationship with Joker. Because on Joker's side, he'd always recognize the fragility of their truce, and I don't think he'd actively go behind Bruce's back to expose them, just because he'd be afraid of Bruce still choosing his Family in the end. He'd fear Bruce retreating, so he'd let it all be up to Bruce.

Like, if they got together after Joker said yes to being helped and to rehabilitation, after TKJ or halfway through their career, I think Bruce would tell Alfred quite soon, and that he'd let the Family know too. It'd be very difficult, and it might damage his relationship with Jason or Barbara, but I think they'd understand, because they know Bruce. The guy is addicted to trying to fix/control/contain dangerous individuals. Actually, in any scenario in which Joker is undergoing rehabilitation, Bruce would feel that he has an excuse to flaunt in front of everyone else, he'd let them look at him with pity and think that he's trying to fix Joker by loving him. Hell, he might even lie to himself that it's all for the good cause of humanizing Joker, but the truth wouldn't be that. The truth would just be that he wants Joker, but... well. That'd be tough to stomach for the Family.

But if Bruce and Joker got together after decades of Joker harming and hurting the Family, time and time again... there'd just be so much baggage. Even with the unlikely event of Joker accepting help, I think Bruce would hide it until somehow, the relationship was revealed, and then he'd try his best to do damage control. Meanwhile, Joker would try to resign himself to the thought that Bruce potentially losing so many people because of him might poison their relationship irreparably.

...Poor Bruce, honestly. It's a horribly complicated situation.

20. What do their family/friends think of their relationship?

The Batfam wouldn't understand it, not really. But ultimately, I don't think the Family would be surprised, even though they would feel heavily betrayed.

Jason is the most acquainted with Bruce's weakness for Joker, he got his throat cut by a Batarang because Bruce simply couldn't let Joker die, not even then. Barbara knows about Bruce and Joker laughing together in the rain. Dick has technically even killed Joker before, and then him and the rest had to witness Bruce giving Joker CPR to bring him back to life. And Alfred has been there every step of the way to witness Bruce's obsession. Maybe the more recent additions to the Batfam would be more dumbfounded and wonder how the hell could Bruce have feelings for the Joker, but the core Batfam... I think they've witnessed too much. They just bury it. They try to justify it, they're eager to accept Bruce's own justifications for it, but deep down, they know that there is truth to Joker's claims of Batman loving him more than he loves them. It's why, in Death of the Family, it's shown that they're all rattled and avoiding Bruce, that Joker got into their heads.

Bruce having a relationship with Joker would fully be him choosing Joker over them, the people Joker hurt again and again and who Bruce is supposed to care about and protect. I don't know if they could ever truly forgive that.

And well, as to Joker's side of things, he doesn't quite have friends or family. But either way, I think Harley and the other Rogues wouldn't be surprised either. More like, "Joker finally got what he always wanted, huh," and (incredulously) "You'd think Batman would have some standards, though."

MY TOUGHTS ON PART ONE OF RED HOOD BY CHIP ZDARSKY :)

Finally I have read part one of the Red Hood story in Batman: Urban Legends!

This story is very interesting, we start with the Red Hood looking for the people who are providing Gotham with a new drug. This drug “Cheerdrops” has been passed around for weeks at this point and it has had devastating results among it's users. If you know Jason you understand that drugs are a big issue for him and one that he treats very carefully and seriously. 

As he interrogates people he arrives to the building where one of the dealers of this drug is supposed to be, there he finds a horrific scene, a boy is desperately trying to wake up his mother who appears to have overdosed in her bed. Jason is quick to call an ambulance and get in contact with Oracle in order to find the boy's father who is (as he finds out later) the man that he was looking for. 

Jason sees this scene and can't help but compare it to the time he went through this situation with his mom all those years ago, so he takes the boy with him so he can take him to his father, who Jason is hoping is a good man that had to sell drugs in order to help his family.

That's basically the premise of this first part of the story but now i will write about my thoughts on the specifics of the story.

The story begins with Jason giving a speech about fear and how it's used, 

"Fear. Its a tool, it's his tool. I never really adopted it, maybe because he kept that fear all to himself." Then he continues with "Never had to rely on it, had to work harder to take out the bad guys, had to be...more direct." he finishes that thought with "Rubber Bullets. So that fear doesn't get turned around on me."

I for one really liked this Fear speech, it does really sum up what the Batman does, he relies on the Fear that he imposes on Gotham's criminals and such while Robin on the other hand was never meant to work with fear, which is true.

It did remind me of the speech that Alfred gave in issue #10 of Under the Red Hood about how Batman works with fear and Jason had some thoughts on it, here is some of it, 

"Master Jason had a condescending practice of referring to the costumed criminals elements as 'dress ups'. He also noted that such individuals did not fear the Batman the way street thugs and mafioso did. The 'dress ups' did not believe he was a monster." "...the boy did say something to me that chilled me to the bone...even then. 'They all know he won't kill them.'"

Anyway let's go back to the actual comic I am talking about...

Jason speaks from his position as Red Hood in current time and says that he uses rubber bullets in order to keep the Bat at bay, the fear that the Bat uses against other criminals cannot be used against him if he plays within the Bat's rules.

As he was doing that he was actually trying to get info about who is making the drug but all he was able to get was who was selling it to the person he was interrogating. This drug is dangerous and Jason has to work fast. 

Here is where we see the first flashback scene, we see Jason in the cave before he was able to go out as Robin and he is not to happy about it. The art is very beautiful but sadly in these panels i found my first problem with the context of Jason becoming Robin and how Zdarsky seems to set Jason's feelings on the first Robin.

It seems that Zdarsky is going for the “Jason believed Dick was the perfect Robin and no matter what he did he would never be as good as him” route, which fine ok, that's your right but, is it really necessary? I must admit i am a little tired of this particular thing because i adore the fact that when Dick and Jason first met they were fine with one another (even if a little wary at the very start). And the whole competitive and “i will never be as good as X person” is really tiring in the Robin/Batfamily fandom.

That problem is not as significant as the next one though.

Jason not thinking that Robin was “badass”. Well this is not only a bad take but it's completely OOC for Jason, no matter how you see it. From his first appearance as Robin to the flashbacks in Winick's UtRH and even through both of Lobdell's runs Jason has always loved the concept and the mantle of Robin as a child. 

Batman v1, #385.

So that whole take is wrong, i don't like it and also who on this or any universe would rather call themselves Batboy? Honestly i hope this is never brought up again or i will cry. ((((Also in this house Robin will always be the name that Mary gave Dick and then he used as his hero name so it hurts a lot more))))

Also at the end of this first flashback Jason discovers a room full of firearms and is obviously surprised because Batman hates those so he asks why he has them, B responds that he has to understand how they work for his detective work, but that's not all he says, he also says this “...Guns are a coward's weapon, and we will not be cowards.”

Alright Mr. Zdarsky i see the irony... i also see the Daredevil / Punisher thingie right there.

Anyway we are now back to the present where we see Batman seeing the effects of the drug in one of its victims, after saving that person he takes some samples of the drug. We also get to see two police officers with different views on the “masks”, that's a nice way to set the story after the Joker War and before the Magistrate. 

Back to Jason, he seems to be struggling, he can't find the people making/providing the drugs in Gotham and is also doubting his skills, he tells a man that if the information that he gave him is incorrect he “will find him” followed with another internal speech full of self doubt, “...sure thing Red Hood, right now you can't even find a street drug. Half of Gotham's teenagers could find it no problem. You never were the best detective.”

Alright, so Jason feels insecure about his skills now? First you have pre-Robin Jason not feeling like he could be able to keep up with the first Robin and now, Jason as a grown man has doubts about the skills that he has used for a long while now? I mean, press X for DOUBT because UtRH showed us how much of a badass and extremely skilled he is. This man planed everything in order to turn the Bat's world upside down (and this story has references to UtRH so it definitely happened) and now he feels like he is not that good? 

Shit. i know where this is going, first the insecurities that he has already worked out... I can see it coming, the next big thing will be Daddy issues. Wonderful i hate it and i hope i am wrong because those “issues” are more than resolved, i know that's the only trope DC throws at Jason but honestly how different will it be this time?

Fine, lets move on. Jason finds himself in one of the apartments and what he sees is horrifying. Lying on a bed there is a woman completely catatonic with a horrible smile on her face and right next to her a terrified little boy.

Here is the best take on Jason's character so far. 

Realizing that the child is scared of the situation and the masked man that just came into his home Jason takes off his mask and reassures the kid that he is there to help, it's quickly made obvious that the woman has overdosed on Cheerdrops, he makes sure to call an ambulance for her stating that she seems to be in a  drug-related coma.

Its important to note that Jason is doing this as he is having troubling thoughts about how much this scene reminds him of the time he was in this little boy's (Tyler) shoes. Its hard for him but he soon realizes that he needs to make sure Tyler is safe. 

He asks Tyler if he has another parent, he does and his name is Andy, after taking a look around the house Jason deduces that maybe the father is also taking drugs so if the police comes they will surely take Tyler and put him in the system, this idea is not one Jason is fond of so he calls Oracle, he asks if she can locate Tyler's dad's phone, when she asks about the kid Jason says that he will be the one keeping him safe.

Now we find ourselves back with Batman where he is investigating the components of Cheerdrops, he finds out that the drug is a modified version of Scarecrow's fear gas that gives the victim a sense of extreme happiness instead of fear.

Here we get confirmation of when in the timeline this story occurs, which is after the events of Infinite Frontier (where there was an attack on Arkham and many patients/prisoners were killed or escaped).

B suggests to Oracle that maybe Crane didn't die there and that he might be behind this drug, he will be on the job right away! To this Oracle is like well shit, so she tells B that Jason is also working this case...and here comes a funny yet confusing interaction. 

Barbara says “I know you two aren't exactly friends right now but...” before she finishes Batman interrupts her by saying “He is a killer Barbara. I will do this alone.”

OH BOY is this interaction confusing! First of all may i point out how different this conversation is from the one in Three Jokers where the roles were basically reversed??? Please tell me that i am not the only one who finds that funny! Anyway that story doesn't matter here, but Red Hood Outlaw from Rebirth does, right?

Here is the thing, the last person that Jason “killed” in rebirth was Penguin and he actually didn't do it, he had him trapped in a panic room in his own Casino. Batman already beat the living shit out of Jason in RHatO #25 for it...and some time has passed, B surely found out that Jason didn't kill Penguin by now, i mean isn't he like the best detective to ever detective in the history of the universe??

Not only that but Jason has been using rubber bullets for a while and even at the start he mentions that, he basically implies that he is playing by the Bat's rules to keep him off his back. Maybe B hasn't let go of the duffel bag full of heads or any of the shitty people Jason killed during UtRH??? If B still holds that against Jason then why would he try to make Jason part of his Bat clan at the beginning of RHatO Rebirth? 

Maybe he still thinks that Jason killed the penguin...but even then isn't B working with Harley and Ghost-Maker? You know, people who have killed? Why is Jason different? Did Jason kill someone recently that we don't know about? Jason only kills a very distinct set of people (that are very not nice) so i guess i don't see the logic...

Anyway second flashback, and this time we have a look at what was going on in the Batcave with B and Alfred during the events of UtRH! Nothing that wasn't explored in UtRH is said here but we do see Alfred explicitly telling Bruce how much they failed Jason. There is a heavy insinuation that the fact that Batman keeps sending the Joker to Arkham only for him to escape and kill more people actually makes B responsible for those deaths and i love that. Thank you. 

Back to Jason and Tyler we get to see some very adorable scenes between the two. Jason gives the lower half of his mask to Tyler to protect his identity like a superhero and we have a really sweet moment in which Tyler chooses the Blue Hood as his name because he likes the colour blue (same Tyler).

After he leaves Tyler in a place where he will be safe he goes to the building where Andy should be and let me tell you the more Jason sees the less hopeful he becomes about Andy being just one of the people selling the drug... He does some shooting and incapacitating and then follows the man that is trying to escape and here is when shit hits the fan. 

Andy is a disgusting human being. He hates Tyler's mother and doesn't care that she might be dead and the piece of shit hates his son so much that he gave a barely 10 year old drugs. 

Yeah. BANG BANG BANG MOTHERFUKER. 

If you think that this leads to Jason being a little more like his UtRH self, you know the guy that said that people who gave drugs to kids will get killed without a thought...yeah that's not happening, here comes the guilt!

I get it he just killed a man, but, did you read what that man said?

Anyway that's how the first part of this story ends. 

The story is good. it has things that don't make much sense but i think it's because Zdarsky is a Batman fan and not a Red Hood fan in the sense that he doesnt know much about Jason's character and that this is his first ever DC work.

I cant wait to see where this story goes, while i hope “unresolved daddy issues” doesn't become a theme yet again in a Red Hood story i believe it's where we are headed. I will keep on reading because i am invested in Jason and Tyler's relationship and what is going to happen now that Jason killed Andy.

                             PART 2 - “The Age of Heroes”

i didn't want to do this but now as i sit on my computer, i see that i have no other choice but to speak out about this topic.

who exactly is thea grayson wayne? see that's an incredibly good question, one i'm terrified to answer, it's been going around for all my life and i still have no bloody clue.

there was a time where i would cry myself to sleep in florence's [@florence-wayne-official] room when flo wasn't home to comfort myself because i literally felt like i had no one else aside from kit and florence.

i'd sometimes just go and flop down on kit's [@kit-the-nonbinary-wayne] couch, literally begging for them to give me a hug and tell me that i'd be okay because i was shaking.

it wasn't pretty

there was a time i'd not eat anything for weeks, then throw up after every meal i ate when they forced me to, where i almost killed myself [more than like, six times] only to be stopped by either dick, kit, florence, alfred, jason, or tim [who was just adopted at the time] or bruce, sometimes i wish they hadn't.

sometimes i wish they'd let me die, because looking in the mirror i don't see a survivor or someone who's fought hard, i see someone who's given up on life and doesn't deserve anything anymore

i've got many scars from fighting villains my entire life but the ones that are the most painful are the one's i did to myself.

it got so bad to the point where i almost overdosed on my meds, i don't see myself in the mirror anymore i just see a reflection of the girl i once was once.

i once was sitting in the bathroom of my room in the manor, it was right next to florence's room so we had a habit of annoying each other.

i don't know what came over me but i took a blade from my razor and drew a line across my palm, i didn't even react to the blood dropping onto the floor, i just stared at it.

i think florence and kit came to know i did something wrong because a while later they bust into the bathroom and snatched the blade from my other hand.

it was bad, it got really bad.

what made it worse was when dick left jason died, florence left for school, kit left to live with selina and tim was the only person around, i didn't know who to talk to, i couldn't put everything on that boy, not the weight i carried, so i let everyone believed i wasn't hiding anything under my long sleeves, that i wasn't throwing up after every meal.

the worse part is that i've got help for it multiple times, i just refuse to get better and i don't know why

i won't say that i don't do any of those things today, i still do, but im trying to get out of it and honestly im glad for everyone i have to help me through it [@addison-wayne18 @kit-the-nonbinary-wayne @kathy-kyle @florence-wayne-official and everyone else i can't tag right now]

mental health matters, it matters as much if not more than physical health, im tired of people dismissing it and telling me that being mentally exhausted isn't an good excuse

I'm glad that someone else angry with Bruce for whole this thing with Dick's snyper too. I mean, he basically killed this asshole! He snapped his neck and left him in the fucking Sibirya or somewhere (and those lands it's a very deadly even with perfectly healthy body, I know it, I live there!). I don't say that he should have killed Joker (he should have) BUT GOD FUCKING DAMNIT, WHY COULDN'T HE SNAP HIS DAMN NECK TOO?!?! (I'm really sorry for bad English and caps and too much emotions)

Yeah, like, I’m not Zack Snyder over here telling you to grow up and that your heroes are all murderers, but it’s hard not to see the things Batman does on the daily and think he’s never been responsible for someone dying, like maybe it’s not per-meditated murder but at least negligent manslaughter.

I mean, even being the Jason-fan that I am, on some level I can understand Bruce’s issue. For various reasons, he doesn’t want to kill anyone, even the Joker. I think that’s something worth respecting, no matter what. No one should be forced to kill, ever. I wouldn’t want a conscientious objector to be forced to kill people if it was absolutely against everything they believe, even during war, because someone shouldn’t be forced to destroy their psyche and mental health, and if they know it would break them to do something you absolutely shouldn’t force that on someone.

Bruce clearly knows that for his own mental health he can’t be responsible for killing someone intentionally, and Jason expecting him to do that was a mistake in his understanding of Bruce’s abilities, and trying to trick and/or force that on him was wrong. Jason is honestly just mentally tougher and more flexible than Bruce in a lot of ways, he can kill someone and more or less be okay with that knowledge, knowing he did it for the right reasons, but Bruce isn’t strong in that way, and Jason didn’t realize that because Bruce is his dad and Batman, and he just assumes that Bruce is stronger than him in every way when in actuality that’s not the case.

BUT ON THE OTHER HAND.

Bruce has no right to stop Jason from killing the Joker or other unrecoverable criminals in Gotham, or to use deadly force to defend himself or others, and even less right to treat Jason terribly and pariah him for wanting and trying to do so. Just because Bruce is willing to die or let other people die because he refuses to kill people doesn’t mean it’s alright to force that decision on anyone else. Bruce honestly belittles Jason a lot, assuming that because Bruce can’t handle killing someone that eventually it will tear Jason up from the inside out like it would him, ‘because no one is as tough as me’. Basically he just thinks Jason couldn’t possibly be capable of living with having killed someone, and if he can well, it’s not because Jason is able to make a practical decision that saved lives, it’s just that he is a psychopath. Bruce just has such tunnel vision that he ignores all the people around him such as Alfred, probably Gordon, and many of his other fellow vigilantes who have had to kill in the past, and he thinks to himself, “Well, they aren’t actively killing people so obviously they couldn’t handle it either,” and he sits in this false, smug sense of superiority that he’s right.

Because if he admitted that Jason was capable of doing what he does without breaking down and becoming a monster or a psychopath, then he would feel challenged to do the same, and he can’t because he’s not capable. And Bruce refuses to entertain the idea that he isn’t capable of something. So Bruce needs to believe that Jason is crazy and secretly falling apart inside over killing, or if he’s not then he’s just a sociopathic murderer like his rogues against all evidence to the contrary, when the only thing that’s tearing Jason up from the inside is Bruce’s rejection and misplaced hatred for being able to do what Bruce himself can’t.

Chapter 12: Sunday & Moral Codes

I woke up at 11 a.m., completely forgetting Bruce's orders about getting up early. Jason was still beside me, his hand in my hair and snoring. When there was a knock on my door, I couldn't help but startle.

"Jane, is Jason with you?" I heard Dick ask as he knocked on the door.

I got up, uncovering my father to see if he would wake up. I opened the door, still without putting on my glasses, to find a cheerful, yet blurry Richard, holding a small stuffed elephant. Next to him was Titus, with what appeared to be a piece of underwear on his muzzle.

"He's sleeping, do you need anything?" I asked as I rubbed my eye in an attempt to wake me up.

"Yes, I needed my shirt back. And Alfred says to go downstairs for breakfast. Oh and I think Bruce wants to talk to him," he said quickly as he squashed the small stuffed animal against it.

"What's up with your little elephant?" I asked, giggling. I had never seen such an adorable and childish side of Dick before. And I could tell the stuffed animal was old, as it had patches and stitches all over it.

"I've had it since I was a kid, its name is Zitka." He told me, just before Timonthy appeared in the room hallway, "He has your underwear." He said, pointing at Titus.

"Damn dog, give me back my things," Tim shouted, lunging at the dog, who was already starting to run towards the stairs.

The door to my room opened, letting out a sleepless Jason.

"Dick, what happened?" He asked, peacefully to his brother, as he squeezed my shoulders and in the background, I could hear Tim yelling at Titus to give him back his clothes.

"My shirt." Said Richard simply, extending his hand towards us.

"I'll give it to you now," he replied, closing the door to my room and moving into his own, "Darling, go get some breakfast and get your things ready. We leave in the afternoon for our apartment," he said when he reached the beginning of the stairs.

"But I have things to... Forget it." There was no point in replying anymore since he had already disappeared from my sight.

I went down to the dining room to have breakfast, finding Damian, Rai, and Olive, sitting at the huge table.

"What about Assana?" I asked, sitting down in my seat.

"Miss Jernigan left early. She said she had some unfinished business," Alfred reported, handing me an empty cup and saucer to serve my meal.

"The Scarecrow, the Joker, and Slade Wilson. Do you want to give us your opinion about them?" Damian asked after a few minutes of silence, pointing a spoon at me as if it was a microphone, "I mean, it's been a long time since their escapes coincided."

"I think the three of them are idiots," I said, pouring some coffee in my cup, "They deserve to die, but honestly I don't feel like breaking the moral code on which the whole family is based," I began to eat, to see if they would stop bothering me.

Since before I joined the Wayne family and Batman's team, I was already clear about one thing: there would be no more deaths caused by me.

My life was tragic enough without staining my hands with more blood. Bruce already knew that, he was helping me not to cross that line again.

According to him, I was too young to understand what was going on around me. And as much as I hated those three, I had to control myself.

"We're supposed to go with the team at 4: 00pm. And I think Mike and Malowe want us to go on patrol with them," Olive said as she passed me the cajeta. "It's going to be a long day."

Usually, Sundays were the days where you stayed home and enjoyed a healthy family get-together. In this house it was the opposite, those who had apartments in other cities would leave. Bruce would lock himself in his office and work there all day.

"I'll put it in my schedule, thank you very much," I told my cousin, trying to annoy her. "Jason wants us to go to our apartment, but I think in the end he will go with the Outlaws. I don't know, you know how he is with plans.

"Richard is going out with Barbara Gordon," said Olive, totally happy with the news, "Maybe now he will ask her to marry him." She whispered, before putting her glass of juice in her mouth.

"Honestly, I thought Grayson would end up with Starfire," said Timonthy, entering the dining room. Apparently, he was finally able to get his underwear.

"Grayson has had over 10 girlfriends and not one of them has formalized his relationship," Damian said. Also bothering Olive.

"37, I counted them myself. When you want, I'll pass you the list," completed Rai.

"Let me dream in peace," Olive said, annoyed, as she got up from her seat and left the dining room.

"I wonder if everyone in this family is destined to be single," I muttered to myself.

Don't know if this had been asked before but how would resolve/explored/develop the batfamily dynamics pre 52? I don't know if it was you or someone else, but it was brought up that the idea of Damian being more Dick's kid than Bruce's would be a neat idea to explore. Bruce would still bond w/Damian but he'd have to deal w/Damian seeing Dick as his real dad and Dick staying Batman for Damian's sake. Tim and Dick repairing their bond while the former and Damian would learn to accept each other.

Sorry, I know, I’ve held onto this for nearly a week but this is such a big ask I’ve been thinking about how to best describe and format it so I’ve been doing it bit by bit. Because I’ve given quite a bit of thought to how to integrate the ideas of pre-Flashpoint smoothly into N52, using the plot lines and developments from the later without sacrificing the former. I think it could have easily have been done and been more interesting because DC dropped off on some intense plotlines. *Also to save my fingers, Pre = Pre-Flashpoint/N52

Dick/Dami- I have done a few posts about how close they were pre and how Dami and Bruce really weren’t. Bruce was not the best father before he came back from the dead and had no interest in working with Damian in order to help the boy heal. In my fantasy, this would have played out. Damian would have refused to leave Dick’s side as his partner while now Bruce is hurt/confused on why his son now doesn’t want to be with him. I want Damian and Bruce to have a relationship but I want B to have to work for it. Nightwing and Robin shows Dick and Dami together with Batman and Red Robin has Tim and Bruce teamed but slightly at odds with each other, the once close relationship showing strain while Dick and Dami are going strong. Eventually Bruce earns Damian’s love and trust and begins patrolling with Bruce but he still remains immensely close to Dick and, no one says it aloud, but everyone considers him more Dick’s child than Bruce’s. By the time of Damian’s death, it should be Dick who is outraged and inconsolable with grief barely able to function while Bruce goes into his angry/panicked mode because he’d barely gotten any time with Dami and now he’s gone.

Tim- Just Tim in general would need a lot of work done and I’m not just saying that cause he’s my favorite. Red Robin left us with some pretty massive loose ends not to mention Timmy had be been bent and twisted by his experiences to the point that he was different and not always in good healthy ways. In Batman and Red Robin, we see the strain slowly start to show. B is still mad for Tim almost killing Boomerang at the same time he’s upset at how much Tim has grown-up and grown away. He’s also lowkey upset about Dami and, I don’t want to say he’s using Tim to fill in until Damian comes back but it’s implied. He also becomes increasingly concerned for Tim’s mental/physical health. Tim meanwhile is a slow, steady downward slope of depression and feelings of isolation and hurt/anger/insecurity over how the batfam treated him the past few years. First half would show the two fighting and generally slipping down, maybe Tim has a bad health scare with spleen and finally enough is enough and they focus on pulling Tim back. Also like to see a resolution to the Ra’s arc in which Ra’s comes in and tries to sway Tim over to his side which becomes more possible as Tim slips further away from the batfam. The whole fam/Titans get together and help get Red in a better place. (also wishful thinking, as all this occurs, Tim begins to realize his love for Conner and is dealing with that on top of everything. It spills out one night and is delighted/terrified to find his best friend has felt the same way for a long time. they agree to put any relationship on hold until Tim is in a better place but they sneak a few kisses and the support really helps Tim get back together)

Tim/Jason- Just as an aside I’d really like to see this (brotherly/friend) relationship develop. I like that N52 had these two be friends but it drove me nuts that after 6 years of Jay wanting nothing more than Tim’s death they’re besties? I’d like to think Jay would be one of the first to see how bad things have gotten for Tim because he’s been there, he know what it’s like to be the forgotten Robin. And Jay is still angry but his head is finally starting to clear from the Pit and he acknowledges that what happened with him and B wasn’t Tim’s fault. And as he watches Tim slowly spiral downwards with seemingly no help, Jay decides he won’t see another Robin die. Jason approaches Alfred, then B about Tim’s health and ways to help. It’s tense and awkward as they test the waters but they agree to, separately, help get Tim straight. It’s slow going but between Outlaw missions, Jay stops by Tim’s apartment and hangs out with him. They patrol when B is with Dami, they talk and properly get to know each other. They find they have a bit in common and actually like talking. Tim finally talks about some of the messed up things that happened and lets Jay know how bad things got and Jay finally talks about his traumas and comes to terms with them. As Tim is still angry at Dick/Bruce, Jason becomes a confidant in the batfam.

Jason- Actually RHATO Rebirth Jason is a pretty good idea of what I’m thinking of. We have a Jason who, after a few years finally is able to move past the Pit’s influence and think clearly for the first time in a while. It makes him realize that most of his actions were done out of anger so he re-evaluates. B sees this and takes the opportunity to reach out which Jason appreciates and returns by telling B about Tim. That’s where B and J start making things right, when they’re talking about how to best help Tim, they’re also covertly talking about how to deal with what happened. It gets out that Hood is a Bat and Jay is forced to ally himself properly with his family in order to avoid being torn apart by the criminal community. Jay will never be the golden son, he agrees that he won’t purposely kill but he toes the line far more than Bruce is comfortable with. The trust between them is razor thin but they’re trying. B hates it but he uses Jason as an agent who does the things B cannot/will not do. Jay spends only about half the time in Gotham, the other half with the Outlaws (NOT Kory/Roy, Jay needs his own team not hand-me-downs, Artemis/Bizarro?). He gets on better terms with Tim, but is still at odds with Dick even more so on Tim’s behalf for replacing the kid when he was down. Eventually learns to like Dami and becomes a proper big brother with him. I’d like a side arc seeing Jason going back to school? Going to GCU maybe with Steph under a false ID, that’d be nice.

Cass and the BOP- Having read Cass’s Batgirl run I think it’d be a natural progression that she’d fit in with the Birds. Cass loves her new family but she also needs space for herself to grow and she remembers Bruce was rather suffocating with her. She moves in fulltime with Barbara on the excuse she’s there to help/respond quickly but honestly she’s working on bettering her people skills and needs that constant human interaction. Babs teaches her to read when not on missions and the other Birds are very supportive of Cass. Cass also trains the other Birds in techniques and really hones the Team’s skills. They become just as formidable and respected as the Bats. They learn to coordinate better so they each can have more times off. The Birds would have their own section of Gotham as “theirs”, their own rogues gallery, get involved in the ladies’ personal lives. Barb is still struggling with her on again/off again relationship with Dick, now complicated by children in all but name, Damian and Cass (lol Bruce lost two children to other people). Cass is working on being a person and not a weapon but trying to keep up her impressive skills. Steph is a reserve member, available if needed but she’s really trying to ally herself with the Bats. She and Cass though retain a strong relationship, Steph because her relationship with Tim has soured and she needs someone and Cass because Steph was her first friend.

Stephanie- I’d basically like a continuation of her Batgirl run which was marvelous and go read it. Stephanie is still trying to prove herself to that Bats that she’s worthy of the cape and cowl and, for the most part, she’s earned it. Bruce now grants her the Batgirl title and keeps her on the roster and her belt equipped. But there’s always gonna be some tension between them and he’s undeniably harsher on her than the others. She patrols often with Dick and Damian who like/trust her more and, a lot of times, if Dick is working or whatever it will just be her and Damian. She relishes the big sister role and the feminine influence is good on Damian (though he’ll never admit to it). Continues her classes at GCU, nearly falls over when Jason sits next to her in her English Lit class. The big problem for her is keeping up with the other more confident/well-trained heroes and also repairing her relationship with Tim. She messed up, he took it badly, she moved up in batfam, he started spiraling out of control. He’s still angry about what went down but recently has been trying to repair the relationship. But too much has happened and they’ve both changed so much. Neither likes admitting how different from Robin and Spoiler they are. Her and Jay discuss how to handle Tim while studying poetry. As Tim’s health improves, he lets Steph in more and they start their friendship over. Also very close to the BOP/Cass and while she’ll hang out with them a lot out of costume, she’s determined to be a Bat. Maybe after she gains some confidence, she might switch over to the BOP for good.

But I'm kinda scared for Tim I mean he's either gonna end up with Buce or the titans at some point, im afraid that something terrible is gonna happen his family and then titans/bruce takes him in? That boy loves batman and robin so much like even his family seeing the news knew how much it would upset him although I will say that for the brain that kid has he makes some pretty stupid decisions, hes driving around GOTHAM plastered in the bat-symbol that's not a good idea! the amount of lunatics that roam free in Gotham (and possibly have escaped from arkham) and hate the bat and hes driving around with the bat symbol on him KID be careful!

Some kind of Anti-fear toxin does seem more accurate cuz he's clearly taking something to not be afraid. Maybe it's something he found in Gotham and decided to try it and got addicted so he's using that lab place to try recreate it? and maybe he can't recreate it perfectly cuz in the crowbarring scene he seemed kinda anxious about his surroundings and he'd just taken that inhaler thing to overcome fear so I dunno?? Or maybe he went to arkham to see Crane for some reason and Crane has orchestrated the whole thing and told him about the drug but then wouldn't Crane have to know everyone's identity then? Dude I dunno I need more episodes even tho the low quality glitchyness is painful lol

There's probably an abundance of rooms to choose from at Wayne manor yet Jason takes Dicks old room and keeps the flying graysons posters up! I like to think that he does view dick as an older brother and just took his room to kind of have a connection to him and that he admires him hence the graysons posters being left up, yooo dick calling him his brother! I really want a nice family reunion with dick jason and bruce 💕

Babs was too mean to bruce when she went off like I get where she's coming from but yo lady his son just died dial it down like a notch yikes but also babs being like 'i wonder how long it'll take for bruce to replace jason and dick is all 'what no the last thing bruce is gonna do is rope another kid into this mess'. Cut to scene of Bruces potential robin folder 😅 but I also like that dick was trying to be considerate and compose himself for bruce but once he found out that bruce is idiot enough to pull another kid into this, that that's when he got mad and bruce so brokenly begging dick to come back and be robin 😢😢😢

I know the show is constantly trying to push bruce out/sideline him cuz it's a titans show not a bruce wayne show and I know they're going for a different portrayal of bruce which I'm not complaining about I do like this version of bruce (more than I thought actually) and this universe but I feel like they could have gave more cracks you know, I like that they showed him trying to avoid the reality of jasons death and just not stopping not even for a second and just immediately jump into another case and that breakdown verge where he's begging dick to be robin and then when he finally I guess let's the weight of jasons loss sit on him to the point where he whacks in jokers head with a crowbar just like he killed jason (he could have killed joker so many other ways like a less violent bullet to the head but oh no brucey crowbars him to death!!)

There's a lot of character stuff that i do like but that scene where he's in the cave on his knees scrubbing his sons blood out of the suit he died in, the suit that he only ever wore because of batman. 😢 I feel like they could have had him crack there and let out a gut wrenching scream and then just continue on doing what he was doing as if nothing happened and dick walking in on that should have had more of a reaction!? like he could have stopped in his tracks at the sight of his brothers blood all over his father and bruce screaming, dick could have like took a step back almost like he's gonna run but forces himself to stay there, because who wouldn't want to run from that and no matter how much horrible things you've dealt with before sometimes your brain does just take over against your will and makes you react, the rest of the scene just could have played out the way it did. Literally one ounce more emotion is all I wanted.

No one really emotionally cracked at jasons death. I get that it just happened and that people put walls up and denial can be such a prominent thing when a loved one dies but it couldn't have been that difficult to put in little mannerisms now and again to show that everyone is deeply hurt but holding it in. Honestly gar seemed more hurt to me than dick did. But I do like that dick reacted in detective mode and started trying to figure things out from jasons side so at least there's that.

This redhood is defo not an anti hero he has well and truly landslided into villian territory and I dunno how that's gonna be reconciled? they better not kill him off! and they better not just straight up keep redhood/jason as a full on villian! but if they do get through to jason and bring him back a little how the heck is that little man gonna deal with what he did to Hank?? I feel like they had a bond you know and for all Hanks talk about putting Jason down I really don't think that Hank would actually have killed him even if it came down to Hanks life vs Jasons I think Hank would rather die than kill Jason (but that's heavily biased cuz in my mind jason is my son and I freaking love hank sooo) but Hank to me puts on a hard front like 'yeah I'll get in your face I'll come at you b*tch' but internally he's like 'yeah I'll come at you to help you' 😅 like internally he defo has a lot of soft spots though that's not to say he'd be like this for someone like the joker or scarecrow or whatever guys like that he'd be like no screw you you die or go to arkham like byeee

Random side note here but imagine Jasons first time in the batcave he would be so excited and trying to mess with everything and being like ohh what's that do and pressing random buttons and bruce having a hernia trying to get jason to stop before he accidentally blows the cave up 😅 also he has probably been caught several times trying to 'borrow' the batmobile, I can just picture him trying to sneak down the halls of the manor without the floor creaking and making it all the way into the cave and doing a victory dance cuz he didn't get caught and he hops on into the batmobile in his pj's and let's out a scream cuz alfred is sitting in the freakin passenger seat waiting for him and then they just hang out in the batmobile alfred had the good foresight to bring a flask of tea books and a blanket for jason

Speaking of Alfred I think it would have been more angsty and hurtful if Alfred died shortly after Jason and after a few days Jason claws his way out his grave and the first thing he sees is Alfreds headstone and that's how he finds out Alfred died : (((

I was also rewatching and that gas he takes def has to be some anti fear toxin cause he mentions fear so many times and flash backed to his near death fall, which he felt was probably holding him and back and thus had to prove himself and adds to whatever is influencing him. But ohhh he did seem pretty dang anxious at the carnival grounds, that’s a really interesting theory but recreating something he found hmm, I can see that.

Yeah, I do wish someone cracked (other than Bruce lmao) a bit more, but I do think each character reacted in character though, like it is very Dick(at least this version of Dick, other versions may break down tbh) to put everything into solving the case and figuring out what was up, that’s more this version’s way of caring than just breaking down, like he rarely ever has broken down completely. I think dawn could have been a little more emotional about the death (tho she has enough coming for her lmao). Connor didn’t know Jason that well so it makes sense he would just be sad. Gar seemed pretty sad and in character about it, maybe could have had a bit more, same with Kori, tho she showed it by being almost angry and fiercely protective of everyone else, so I think that makes sense for her. It would have been interesting to see how Rachel and Rose would have reacted though (where did rose go btw?! She would so have a reaction to Jason’s death). But yeah, i wish there was more resolution and break downs for Jason, but also it may have just not felt real since they weren’t there? But I agree

You think? Idk, I think they could def still make him an anti hero towards the end, especially if it’s crane behind the whole thing. Cause if they don’t they are gonna have to go down the gosh awful overused villain gets redeemed while he dies/only to die right freaking after , and I will be so freaking livid if they do that omg. Like they better freaking not. But true, he would be broken by what he did to Hank, oh yikes. But I can see him then that leading to the anti hero path, like he would never go back to be on the titans cause he would feel too guilty, thus giving more of a reason for the anti hero life. But I know, I loved Jason and Hank’s love hate relationship 😭😭😭😭 You know Hank secretly loved the kid and probably saw himself in him.
