i’ve been waiting for this update for SO LONG!!! it completely crushes the idea that Charlie is just this sad little boy and Nick is perfect and strong. and yeah, they both kinda are. BUT Charlie isn’t fragile. He struggles so much, but because of those struggles, he is strong. NICK is seen as the savior in the relationship, the only one that Charlie needs to “feel better.” and even though he played a big part in Charlie’s recovery, NICK IS STILL A HUMAN. Nick is allowed to be fragile!!!
everyone goes through life differently. just because their struggles are different, doesn’t mean one struggles more than the other. life sucks guys. everyone struggles. and everyone’s struggle feels life ruining. we see that with Nick in Vol 2 when he’s figuring out his sexuality.
this is what i love about Heartstopper. there isn’t a “savior” character. they help EACH OTHER. they are there for one another no matter what. there is always space made when one is struggling, but they don’t get bogged down by one another’s struggles. i know in a lot of relationships, one person struggles a LOT and the other person has to set aside their struggles for their partner. i love that Nick and Charlie always hold space for one another. they are the kings of healthy communication haha.

I’m watching a bunch of the Sherlock Holmes series with Jeremy Brett again and I really am obsessed with the way he plays him. I just saw a post about the Copper Beeches but the way he’s like “I am at the LOW POINT OF MY CAREER. Giving young women JOB ADVICE” and then she comes in and is like “I have no parents to ask this :/ I was hoping you could help me” and he just softens completely. And then the resolution of “you’re right, that’s a red flag parade so a telegram will summon me to your aid any time of day or night should danger arise” while opening the door to usher her out of the apartment. Iconic

I’m just almost done with Season 3 of The Great in Hulu and it continues to shock me it is not that popular on media spaces. It’s such a fantastic series and it has all the elements. It’s so unique and it balances out the comedy and satirical humor flawlessly paired with all these impactful emotional performances. Plus, the cast is amazing. Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult chemistry is impeccable and they both do such a good job individually. It’s just great.

I’ve been thinking about Mira from D20 Neverafter.
For one, I absolutely love her. She’s amazing and can do no wrong and I would’ve loved to spend more time with her.
But to do a little *analysis* I find it particularly interesting that she never goes back to being a mermaid. The story of the little mermaid works very well as a trans allegory and the fact that Mira never reverts back to being a mermaid in neverafter feels very respectful of this reading.
Mechanically, keeping her a mermaid or at least giving her water powers would’ve added flair to her fighting (similar to Rapunzel’s prehensile hair), but that never happens. Mira never returns to her original body, because it’s not her true body. Instead of experiencing humanity and realizing that it’s not all it’s cracked up to be, that the grass is always greener, Mira gets to keep her legs and truly become the body she always wanted, even if that comes with pain.
And the most important thing is that she never even asks to be a mermaid again. When she has her moment with the sea witch, we never hear (and her body language never shows) her begging for a tail again, to go back to the water. It may be painful, but Mira’s body is her body and she never tries to change it once it fits how she feels.
I’m not sure if anyone has pointed this out yet or if this even makes sense, it’s just my ramblings too late at night, but idk to me this is something that really stands out about neverafter’s take on the little mermaid. As a cis woman obviously I am less qualified to talk about this stuff, and I’d love to hear trans people’s perspectives on this.
Anyways huge props to Mr mulligan, he’s done it again.

talking about the ending again I love the ending. The more I think about the ending the more I love it. It’s hopeful but it’s not happy. It’s the best conclusion I can think of for Saiki’s character. It gives the audience so much room to headcanon what happens next. It’s so good it’s so sos so sos hkfiejevfemmfrejfmfnfmf.

Season 2 being framed by the deals will always be so good—it just forms an incredible arc for the season thematically, from Dean almost coming to terms with dying in 2.01 but being dragged back to life by John’s deal before he agrees to go with Tessa and then spending the rest of the season struggling with the feeling that he should be—deserves to be—dead. It comes up again and again—Dean’s saying “what’s dead should stay dead” in Children Shouldn’t Play With Dead Things and the fact that he literally kills himself to wake up from the djinn dream even though he’s not certain he’s right come to mind as major examples.
And pretty much the only thing keeping Dean from being fully focused on his guilt over being alive is his turmoil over John and Sam both saying he might have to kill Sam if he can’t save him, because not saving Sam was never an option for Dean. So by the time you reach All Hell Breaks Loose, Part 2, Dean has spent months believing he should be dead, and trying to save Sam from what Azazel has planned for him, and the two come together with Sam’s death, because the only way to save Sam is to do what John did and make a deal.
Of course, when Dean makes the deal you can tell he doesn’t want to die, he just believes he should, and so when he lets the ten years become one, it just feels inevitable rather than surprising. And that’s brilliant, because it follows through in such a satisfying way with the fact that has been driven into so many episodes that, since coming back to life, Dean’s felt like he was living on borrowed time, and the only difference is that he knows now how much time he’s borrowed.
It’s just some of the best writing in the show imo, and works so well with Sam’s plot in the season because Sam’s fear of what he might be made into and his appeals to Dean to kill him before he can become something evil (and how that’s reflected in Croatoan is so good) lead him to a similar place as Dean but from a different angle: Dean believes he should be dead, and Sam believes he should be killed, but Sam’s presence keeps Dean from letting go and Dean’s refusal to give up on Sam keeps him alive.
Just…the way death and life are woven throughout the season and are tangled up in those two deals is so incredibly engaging

man. the entirety of the summoning is a banger but when i tell you i literally had to pause the video and stare into the distance with my jaw hanging for a good few moments at ‘what’s in your pocket, stephanie? stephanie has got a gun’ etc. like holy SHIT. i think part of the reasoning it was so effective for me at least was because i kinda thought it was like. oh steph’s just gonna have to say ‘i give up pete’, she wouldn’t have to physically kill him haha, and then the lords in black mention the fucking GUN and i’m like wait FUCK. and even if you realized that steph would be the one to have to kill pete, you’d be like ‘oh. well she can’t really kill him that easily, so it’s not really feasible’ and then you remember she can end it with just one fucking shot to the head

Hell’s Greatest Dad is easily one of my top songs, I love the animations and most importantly the violin playing, but the part that really scratches my Brian itch is the little trumpet beats at the very beginning of the song??? I don’t know how to describe it but it’s just a little ba da dum da dum da of the trumpet that I love it so much and want on a loop.
