First of all, thanks for your answer to my last question! I've started watching The Good Place for very important research purposes.
An open question for you & the SHC community at large - if you had to assign a theme song to each sorting, what would you choose?
This is such a fun ask that I'm going to go ahead and post it (even though I don't have much of an answer for you right now) so that others can answer.
I expect songs that express Secondaries are less common than songs that only focus on a Primary. Most of the songs I can think of at the moment that include Secondary lyrics are songs from musicals, where there is a story attached with some plot puzzle or obstacle that needs to be addressed. (The second half of "Wait for It" from Hamilton is a Circumventing Secondary watching a Straightforward Secondary with envy. "Master of the House" from Les Mis describes a stereotype of a Snake Secondary cheat/toady. The beginning of "Dancing Through Life" from Wicked is a Improvising Secondary, likely a more even take on a Snake. "Almost There" from The Princess and the Frog is a Badger Secondary song.) Then again, there are a fair amount of Lion Secondary songs outside of musicals since breaking down walls to be true to yourself is a beloved song theme ("It's My Life" by Bon Jovi is one of many).
Otherwise there are plenty of Badger Primary songs about wanting to belong or about showing love to your fellow human being (Jason Mraz's "Look for the Good" is a personal favorite). And there are lots of Lion Primary songs about believing in yourself and letting your heart guide you ("Wild I Am" by Vocal Few always makes me think of Lions, possibly even a Double Lion, for obvious reasons), just as there are plenty of Snake Primary songs about doing anything for the ones you love (Is "Anything for You" by Ludo too on the nose?). Bird Primary songs are the ones that question the meaning of things or are advice songs that list out rules to live by ("Humble and Kind" by Tim McGraw jumps to mind).
Anyway, as someone who is awful at remembering lyrics, I'm not the best person to answer this. So y'all please share your thoughts! I'm eager to hear what others come up with.

I don't mind that Walker Scobell doesn't look like book!Percy because 1) he's absolutely got the spirit. Walker basically is Percy, you can see and feel that in every one of his scenes, and
2) If book!Percabeth had a baby, he would look exactly like Walker Scobell, and I think that's hilariously perfect

It's crazy how Dungeon Meshi's manga can feel more cinematic and emotional than the anime to me, even when they're practically the same. Compared to the anime, this moment is such a heartbreaking gut-drop. The way Kui uses negative space and flat compositions to create a sense of horrific stillness is so key.
The way the text (Senshi's monologue) is sequestered to an empty corner of a panel or huddled away from the edge of its text box is not only a great way of showing Senshi's headspace (fearful, isolated, dissociating), but creates a visual representation of pause, as if you hold your breathe after each line. The first panel puts us directly in Senshi's perspective too (compared to in the anime, which puts us as an outside observer over Senshi's shoulder). The detail of the door and bricks so effectively implies that he stared at it for so long, waiting and hoping, that its image is burned in his memory. The wood grain, the brick arch, the number of rivets. The lack of dialogue in the second panel shows a moment of realization too –– "he's dead" (also a great example of the Kuleshov effect). And it's that pause that creates a beat and sets a great rhythm to his headspace, like a music rest: "He never came back." (oh god.) "I'm all alone." Finally, the third panel's negative space, cropping Senshi, shows how truly alone he feels. Without his family, the world ceases to exists. Under shock, he traps himself in a 1-foot radius, too scared to even perceive a world outside its boundaries; a world that can hurt him, kill him, make him disappear with it. There is only his body, the stone beneath his feet and against his back, his thoughts, and that awful bowl of soup.
Even though they're a series of flat images, there's an implicit reading of silence in Senshi's realization and horror. Kui influences your experience to slow down and take your time.
Compare this to the anime, which fills every shot with dialogue. The pacing is fast; we never get to sit in silence like we do with the manga. The horizontal frame allowed the boarders to add Senshi, turning the composition into an over-the-shoulder shot, which takes us out of Senshi's POV. They also added a zoom-out in shot one, which adds unnecessary energy to a very somber scene. The tightening on Senshi as a close-up reaction shot also dulls the moment. In the original panel, Senshi stares ahead at the empty space to his left as a shadow surrounds his mind. It not only shows how Senshi's senses are dulling and his world is shrinking (setting up panel three), but shows how terrified Senshi is of what's in front of him, how the air itself becomes pitch black and opaque, how Senshi is surrendering himself to fear. The pacing is understandable and necessary; this episode packed a lot of story content together. It's just a shame because it really (imo) deflated one of the most nauseating moments in Dungeon Meshi.

You know those "write badly!" posts that sometimes makes the rounds to encourage all you lovely writers that it's okay that not everything is a masterpiece?
Yeah, those.
I just want all you authors out there not feeling good enough to know that i just decided to reread one of the worst fics I've ever read. Because it's one of the best fics I've ever read.
The plot is simplistic at best. The language is horrible. The pacing is nowhere to be found behind all the "and then!!!" the author peppers their writing like a carbonara with.
But
The characters. The insights into their motivations is fucking master thesis level. I cry just thinking about the way the author predicted where canon was headed years ago. And the way they Preemptively fixed all the ooc-ness the mangaka is now struggling to wrap up.
It's been living in my head rent-free for years and i wouldn't want it any other way. Just with slightly less "and then!!"
So yes, write badly.
In three years time some sucker will come back for seconds because they loved it for all the things you Did manage to do right.

Tall trans girl reading this: you aren't too tall for heels. If you want to wear them, wear them proud. There is nothing more spectacular than a tall woman in heels, and nobody can ever take that away from you, not even yourself 🩷🪻

incidentally for the people who aren’t zedaph watchers I have to express just HOW MUCH the crevasse is a step forward for zedaph building. season six he. didn’t have a base really if I recall correctly. in season seven he had an undecorated cave he put silly machines in. season eight he at least DECORATED but it was sure still a hole in a mountain. season nine it was a base he did a BUILD with! still a hole in a mountain. season ten is a STEP UP it’s a hole with NO MOUNTAIN REQUIRED,

anyone can make a zine, regardless of skill level or access to materials or design programs. all you need is paper, scissors and drawing utensils (although many people enjoy collaging!) web search "8 page 1 sheet zine how to".
everyone SHOULD make a zine too, you will feel so good about it ♡ it's about putting the power of production into the hands of the people! also you don't have to sell it or anything, you can just make one for yourself or trade/give some to friends!
i really love julia grofrer's guide to analogue self publishing aka making zines on 8.5x11 paper
and jaydragon/jdragsky's thread on staple's self serve print centres (if you're area does not have a local print shop, they probably have a staples or fedex print centre)
if you can't draw, here is twitter thread for public domain art and also a mini summary of when thing enter creative commons (generally 70 years after artist death in the US and CAD)
i also have a DIY zine page on my art blog that i am dedicated to updating as i find more resources! (not accessible through tumblr mobile app, mobile friendly, just open the link in a browser)
go make some zines!!!
