Atlanteans keep summoning Phantom. They don't mean to, but now he has a very different look.
Apparently the summoning ritual for the High Prince of the Infinite Realms was leaked (he's pretty sure it was Johnny and Kitty), and teenage Atlanteans are like any other teenager; absolutely willing to peer pressure their friends into doing stupid creepy shit.
He keeps appearing underwater, and it's super uncomfortable to take that moment to remind himself to stop breathing so he doesn't accidentally inhale a lungful of water.
Easy solution; he's already got two forms, and one of them is pretty malleable. As a ghost, it's not like he needs to use his legs anyways.
So he changes it.
It's got glittering white scales, glowing green freckles, claws, and a betta-fish-like tail with glowing neon ridges. He calls it his mer-sona, and makes sure to call it that before Tucker can beat him to it.
Now whenever he gets summoned, he just sticks to that form.

im ready to die im so scared and embarassed but if its alright with you (im sorry your rules not that detail so im not sure) but maybe you would be up to write a ns/fw drabble with merman Wanderer, Albedo or Aether(separate) ? either of them sound interesting honestly. but if its not your thing its alright.
Mermen!Wanderer, Mer!Albedo, and Mer!Aether (separately) x reader (NSFW)
Wanderer
The sounds of people talking at the beach tried creeping up into your mind but the sudden thrust of Wanderer’s cock stopped anything going on in your mind and your eyes rolled into the back of your head, cold violet scales rubbed against your inner thighs and smooth lips marking up your neck. Your lover kept a quick pace, vibrant lavender eyes flickered to you then to the public beach not even 30 feet away and his smile curved up into a smirk.
“Wanna be louder? Let other people enjoying their day know that you’ve been getting fucked like the slut you are.” The hand over your mouth did little to cover your moans and mewls being drawn out of you by every time his cock hit that one spot in your hole. One of his hands snaking down to play with your chest and trail down to pinch the sensitive spots of your body, his webbed hands and fin ears brushing against your skin and wetting them.
“How do you think your friends would feel if they knew your lover wasn’t abroad at a Scandinavian school studying history but a merman who takes pleasure in fucking you so hard you can’t even stand the next day.” Whispering those words into your ears and emphasizing each word with a harsh thrust, biting down on a soft part of your neck that was particularly sensitive, and grinning wildly as you squirmed and thrashed like fish in a net.
Albedo
Blackness was all you could see but feeling was a different story as your veins felt like they were lit on fire and your senses overwhelmed you as you ground your hips against your lover’s tail. His fingers played with your chest, desperately trying to get reactions out of you by twisting and sucking your nipples.
Heat spread through your body despite knowing you were underwater, the cold water ghosting your skin and feeling helpless with your hands and legs bound (as if being underwater wasn’t already a unique experience with the help of special seaweed Albedo got you). “Relax, my darling. You’ll get your release soon.” He flipped his fins so the light smooth fibers grazed over your bruises and sensitive skin, fluttering your eyes shut at the pleasurable sensation.
The lack only enhanced your sense of touch and the many orgasms you already had had taken a lot out of you but your body said otherwise. If only you could see the smirk and curious gaze you knew he had on his pale face, gold scales creeping on the edges of his cheek, and bright teal fins blushing when you begged for more.
Aether
Long blonde braided hair floats on top of the water and touches your thighs as the merman’s tongue laps at your hole greedily, humming contentedly whenever you grind yourself on his face and ignoring the ocean waves washing against his face. Using his tail to keep himself steady and arms circled around your waist so you would say where he wanted you to above water.
The clash of the cool sea water and his hot curling tongue in you shook your very core, trembling whenever you were just about to cum and Aether stopped eating you out only kissing your inner thighs. Locking eyes with you as if to say “Don’t worry, sweetheart. We aren’t done yet” and firmly gripping your ass, eliciting a moan to slip from your lips.
You went to open your mouth when your lover dove back in, tongue fucking your tightening hole and trailing one of his hands up to your chest to play with your nipples. Lost in your head in the haze of lust barely able to speak now that you were about to orgasm and crying out at the euphoria coursing through you, mentally thanking your lover for having strong enough tail muscles to keep you up and slipping into his grasp as he brought back into his arms.

thinking about swimming in the ocean alone at night and meeting merman!geto, when you’re far enough from the shore that your feet dont touch the ground. a guilty pleasure, not a soul knows where you are submerged in cool waters.
and you’re used to feeling tingles of passing fishes, sometimes rocks and plastic brushing against your legs from the waves. nothing scares you. its an odd sentiment, but you feel at home. with tiny life around your feet, continuing whatever they were doing and accepting you as a part of their system.
but then, you see it— a dark outline in the waters. drawing up alarmingly close to you and you hold your breath. the moonlight shows nothing more than a shadow stagnant meters in front of you. you’re not prepared, empty handed and floating helplessly. a beat passes, a wave forms in the distance, and when it crashes, it leaves.
the next day, it comes again. a little closer, but that seemed to be an accident because it goes back to the same place. the movement of water makes it hard to find its eyes, but you’re sure its looking at you—a gut instinct.
a startling screech from a seagull echos and it’s gone once again.
and the cycle continues. a new addition to your small family under the sea, and you dont know what to feel. scared? strangely, not even in the slightest. there’s another feeling, but you rather not come to terms with it; it’ll only heighten your hunger for adventure.
the distance grows smaller by an inch everyday. it gets bolder, swims and skirts around a bubble it’s limiting itself to. but it’s enough for you to see scales gleaming under the stars. a pretty ombré of royal blue to mulberry, a glossy shine covering it. marred by black scars, scraps littered across the surface— but the strength, the vigor it has in its movements shows that they are victory marks.
but what really gets your heart to stop, blood gushing in your ears and your eyes bulging is the skin divided from the scales. human skin, porcelain human skin.
it comes nearer and you make no move to turn the other way, to flail and run to the shore because the scales you saw was on a tail, and the skin above was a stomach and chest scarily similar to a males’.
it—he? stays beneath the surface, long ebony hair flowing gracefully around his face, features still a little blurry.
and then, he comes up.
everything is sharpened, completely bare without a barrier between you. inky, hauntingly beautiful eyes swallow you whole, slick hair clinging to his head with just the tips still underwater. ghost white skin, wet and awfully smooth.
a fallen star in a bottomless ocean.
“it’s cold in the water this time of year, human. much too cold for you to be here.”
it’s talking.
the temperature drops with his words, and the bite of winter hits you hard out of nowhere. “‘s nothing i can’t handle.”
he hums, low and laced with silk. “and yet you’re shivering.” he points out, the ends of his lips curving upwards.
a shaky breath betrays you, the vapor fizzling out in front of him. his words are jumbling in your head and you’re blanking out. “you’ve been watching me for months, now you notice?”
“i was deciding,” he pauses, “if i should show myself.”
his words hang in the air. you feel overwhelmed, flooded with the implications. like a slap to your face, your wonder for him disappeared.
you’ve meet an unknown creature. a creature identical to myths, a upper half sculpted similar to a human and the lower half thinning out to form a tail.
and it can harm you, kill you— snatch your soul quietly while you’re still in his territory. your parents won’t ever recover, they’ll blame themselves for your adventures, won’t ever look at the ocean the same again. friends will whisper your ending until parents pull their children away from lakes, ponds, seas because your blood is spilled, and no one knows how.
no one will ever know that the myths are real, and they are as curious of the world above as we are of the world underneath.
“why did you?” you whisper, barely audible over the rippling waves. a delicate question, three words but it can uncover everything.
the silence that followed you couldn’t process. waiting for him to say something so that muddled (embarrassed?) look on his face can disappear. your fingers start to feel pruny, and your legs feel sore all over.
just when you muster a thought to swim back, a chance to put this encounter behind you, hitting the bed and to just forget— his jaw clenches.
“tired of seeing nothing but legs, at least i have a face to put on them now.”
with a huff and an oddly immature splash of his tail, he dives back underneath.
you’re too dazed to have seen the red on his ears, a shy wiggle of his tail.
(he’s never met a human before.)

AU Master Post!
I realized I have LOTs of little AU's floating around on this blog. SO I thought it was a good idea to collect all the ones I find and make a master post!
Half for you guys and half for me. Because sometimes I come across them again and go OH YEAH and start adding to them again! :D I've organized these as best I can for now. Some of the tags are just for general AU's without any specific story. Those AU's I'll leave with just the tag and link. Some may only have 1 post in the tag at the moment. Others will have more story or detail to them. I'll make sure to include a summary of what to expect on this post as well for those cases.
SO! Check out the AU list under the cut! Let me know if anything seems broken or if there's an AU I missed!
Mermaid AUs:
#Mermaid AU This is a catch all for any post relating to mermaids or undersea creatures. (You can also look for the tag #not sssf related to find the mermaid AU stuff that is not related to that LARGE AU)
#Sun Stone and Seafoam This is my largest AU on this blog. It is an ongoing story about the love between Wei Wuxian and the merman he found one day. You can also find these under the #Merji tag.
A loose Little Mermaid AU. Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji fall in love only to be separated for 3 years due to fate and a wicked curse. The cost of magic is indeed high, but if it grants him his own legs, is it worth it? This story has its own masterpost as well
#Eelxian This is a smaller mermaid AU featuring Dragon Lan Wanji and Eel Merman Wei Wuxian.
#Pirate AU #Diver AU #Angel AU
Creature AUs:
#Foxji AU Lan Wangji is a white fox who tries desperately to fight his mischievous nature. One day he meets a crafty dragon who is determined to bring out Lan Zhan's playful spirit. As time goes by, Wei Wuxian is cast away from the noble dragons, his horns shattered in disgrace before he sadly loses his life. Time passes and one day a strangely familiar crow appears in Lan Wangji's life. Could it be?
#Bunxian AU Wei Wuxian is turned into a rabbit by a stray curse while a teenager in the Cloud Recesses.
#Ghost Au #Potatoji AU #Muppet AU #Animal AU
Modern AUs:
#Modern AU This is a catch-all tag for all modern au's.
#Skater AU Comes with a fic! (complete) Also known as the Honey Buns AU. I wrote this with my fiancee. This is a modern AU that is 80% fluff with a crime drama going on in the background. But since it's told from the protagonists perspective, it doesn't really come to light until the end.
#Flight Attendant AU Also seen under the Travel AU tag. Lan Wangji has to unwillingly go on a business trip and he hates it. That is until a rather attractive flight attendant catches his eye! Too bad they'll never meet each other again... or will they?
#East Side AU It's a fic! (incomplete) Finally cracking under the pressure of being perfect, Lan Zhan decides to run away from home. He takes the bus to the end of the line, not knowing where he's going to go next. He wanders to the river where he finds a homeless boy, an orphan like him, who changes his life. After convincing him to go back home, the two stay in touch and together they change each other's lives.
#Ice Skater AU #Ballet AU #Vacation AU
Fantasy AUs:
#SoE It's a fic! (incomplete) After years of hiding and running after the war Wei Wuxian, the Demon of Yiling, is finally found and captured. Sentenced to death, he is saved at the last moment by claim on his hand. In order to repay a life debt, Lan Wangji offers to marry Wei Wuxian in exchange for his life. Knowing that Lan Wangji does not love him, Wei Wuxian accepts the offer.
#Princeji AU #Sleeping Beauty AU #Howl AU #Witch AU
Canon Adjacent AUs
#Drowning AU Lan Wangji does not notice in time to avoid Wei Wuxian tipping his boat, and ends up falling into the depths of Biling Lake
#Feelings AU This is a catch-all tag for any AU where Wei Wuxian realizes either Lan Wangji's or his own feelings earlier than in the original story
#Adoption AU #Time Travel AU #Da Ge Lives AU #New Baby AU #Killer JC AU #Tinyji AU #Childhood Friends AU

Just because they've been in my sketchbook a long while and I haven't done anything with them since they didn't really turn out the way I wanted...here are a few unfinished doodles I've done over the last year!
Starting with the top left, we have Carewyn and Merman!Orion, as referenced in that one short Mermay AU I did a year ago with Carewyn as a performer on Coney Island --
In the midst of Carewyn singing this song, however, the other four members of the Circle of Khanna were startled to realize that the Manta – who’d been curled up out of sight in the tank at the far corner of the stage – had actually gotten up off the ground and floated up to the top of the tank, sticking his head out above the water and resting it down on his arms perched on the edge of the tank so he could listen. His eyes had even drifted closed while Carewyn was singing, as if relaxing. And when Carewyn stopped singing and actually looked up at him, his black eyes softened noticeably, and he nodded slowly and approvingly.
On the top right, we have an unfinished 10-year-old!Jacob, 2-year-old!Carewyn, and the old Bach family cat Ella under the Christmas tree, as referenced in this one short fic I did earlier this year around Father's Day --
As Jacob told the story [of Hansel and Gretel], he took every opportunity he could to make Carewyn laugh, putting on his best imitation of his snippy English teacher when reading for the woodcutter’s wife and a cackling, “old-lady” voice for the witch. It entertained both Carewyn and Jacob greatly. Carewyn liked the first story so much that Jacob went on to read two more – Little Red Riding Hood and Cinderella – after which Carewyn started to nod off. Her head drooped down onto her brother’s shoulder, and Jacob smiled fondly down at her before, taking care to avoid Ella the cat, he slid both himself and his little sister out from under the tree and scooped her up so he could carry her upstairs to bed. The old Siamese cat proceeded to follow Jacob and Carewyn upstairs, only breaking off once Jacob had put Carewyn to bed and closed the door.
Next, on the bottom left, we have Jacob's usual look while working as a barman for the Three Broomsticks, as referenced in this drabble I set during Carewyn's seventh year. (I didn't finish this one because seriously, Jacob, your muscled arms will be the death of me.)
The bottom middle obviously is Ghost-Bride!Carewyn from my Haunted Mansion AU, featuring the infamous clock featured in the original ride -- I'd been visiting Disneyland on one of my days off work that day, and while re-riding the Haunted Mansion (my personal favorite ride), I started drawing her in the queue and then finished her up while eating lunch at the Golden Horseshoe. I actually got a few families looking over my shoulder both in the line and at the restaurant watching me work, which made me blush! XD
And finally, thanks to some asks and prompts earlier this year making me remember how much I love him, the bottom right is my Marauder Era boy Ed Rosier and his OTL Regulus Black, back in their school days. Ed's face claim is Sebastian Stan, and when Ed was young, he used to dye his hair blond the way Seb has in some of his lesser-known non-Marvel-associated films (such as I'm Not Here). Ed did this as to better set himself apart from his older brother Evan, who Ed was constantly confused for, due to the two brothers' strong visual similarity, as well as constantly overshadowed by. It was only after losing Regulus, being disowned by his family, and learning of his brother's death that Ed went back to his natural hair color, making him much more resemble Seb as Bucky Barnes. Regulus's inspiration for this sketch was everyone's favorite fancast for him, Timothee Chalamet, even if personally I imagined Regulus having straight hair and looking much more like Skandar Keynes while originally reading the books.
Much love, all! Hugs and kisses! xoxo

Coral Sea Myths And Folklore Chapter 1: Ghost Stories and the Supernatural
Just some random myth that’s open to discuss in threads if the needs comes up.
The Floating Circus. Legend says that in the open waters, one would sometimes run into a ship half-floating in the water. From afar the ship looked like it was abandoned, but if one swam closer to the ship they would hear partying noises coming from inside. The story goes that there used to be a wandering trope of mer who made a living by travelling from place to place and living off anything they earned from their performance. One time, after their name had gone viral they were invited to perform for one of the biggest aristocratic group of fish in the Trench. They never made it, because their ship was massacred by a great white shark and everyone died. Now, any mer would sometimes see their ships but if one knew the myth of the floating circus none would dare to go near the ship. Because those who are curious enough to approach the Circus would find themselves lured into a trance where they watch the trope’s performance again and again for eternity.
Haunted Kelp Forests. Some Kelp Forests are deemed safe to explore, but some are off limits. Atlantica tend to keep a record of what kelp forests are alright to visit, but the Trench didn’t impose such restrictions. The story is that while dead mer dissolves into seafoam or nothing, those with a strong enough grudge or dark aura could turn into dark water spirits and continue to haunt the sea. They hate light, so most of them would take refuge in Kelp Forests that are so dark that the light could not penetrate through. Young unexpecting mer who wandered into these Kelp Forests would then be lured deeper and deeper into the forest until they were either eaten by lurking predators or ultimately become prisoners of these dark spirits and keep them company for eternity.
Cannibals. While it’s normal to be consumed by one of their own kind, it’s generally discouraged to consume family members in large amounts. By the sea king’s curse, if a mer were to incessantly consume their own (mostly) direct family members, their form would evolve from half-human, half-fish into something much more distorted and twisted as a proof of their sin. There’s no systematic pattern to how a mer would evolve if they continuously consumes their own family members. Everyone evolves differently. Some might suddenly lose a lot of weight until their bones become visible. Others might slowly lose their tail and their hands might evolve into pincers. The more they consume the uglier they become. Most of them hide from Atlantica and even civilians of the Trench, and instead seek shelter in the depths of open waters where no one ever watches over. The curse only effects those who consumes their kin in large amounts, though.
Deep-sea monsters. There are deep sea monsters even to citizens of the Trench. These sea monsters sleeps in their dens at the seabed. They seldom move from the bed, but they would consume any curious folk who wanders down to explore. They’re usually seen as the primordial beings of the sea, and could live thousands of years but they are not immortal. For my Jade, he met one of these monsters in a different headcanon who gave him the last existing recipe to make love potions. Jade was simply lucky that he wasn’t turned into a meal, but things could have turned out differently. Their smallest kind had eyes that are at least thirty times the size of an average adult merman. They are often sleeping and it would seem as if they slept for eternity, waking up only if they’re disturbed.

cecaelia!Bucky x mermaid!Reader (x prince!Tony)
moodboard by @brdom
Plot: After a nightmare that seems too real you turn to Bucky for help, signing a contract with him doesn't look like a bad idea at the time.
Warnings: as always, at the end. Well, a little spoiler here: there's monster sex! You can search for the rest with ctrl/cmd+f or scroll down at the bottom of the post.
note: reader is Steve and Peggy's daughter so I guess there's that implied physical appearance but feel free to ignore that part if it doesn't suit you
Tumblr media
Finally fighting your way to the surface from that awful dream that felt entirely too real, you jolt upright on your bed and frantically look around, trying to settle in reality.
You keep repeating out loud that it was just a dream but the hollow feeling in your stomach says otherwise. The same dread fills that you experienced as a child when you dreamed of your brother's death before it happened. After many years you can still remember that feeling like it happened yesterday.
Now, it's worse as you were not only a bystander but you were experiencing the events from your own perspective. Your body is still alert, your muscles are tense and your slit throbs from the ghosts of the repeated intrusion.
When you managed to collect yourself you've gone on a search for your mother. You've found her in the hall before the council chambers, she was in a hushed argument with your father. Her brown locks floating around her and her red tail moving at a rapid pace to counter her frantic hand gestures.
You hold your breath as you listen to King Steve explain to his once human wife, the noble Peggy, the 'ceremony' of the Dolphin Dance. She turns violent when she hears all the details and she starts to beat the king's chest with her fist as she cries and begs for your sake.
Knowing it was futile to argue, you didn't even try. You never swam so fast as you had at that moment, the guards at the castle gate only had a blink of an eye to process that you've left. They were shouting after you but didn't pursue after you reached the dark waters.
You still remember the first time you've stumbled into this wicked part of the sea that even the almighty king couldn't control. It would have been the last day of your life if it wasn't for him. Bucky.
He was your saviour, your best friend, your little secret. He was cecaelia, someone who other mers avoided unless they had a deal to make. You knew he wasn't born like that but he never spoke of his past. If it wasn't for your stubborn and curious nature you would never have known he was actually family.
Centuries ago, long before you were born, he was once a proud prince, a merman, a warrior of great strength, the half-brother of your father, Steve. Bucky was the oldest, he should be king by all rights but he was cursed by some evil being and your people drove him away in fear of what he had become.
The same people that were encouraging your father to organize that savage ritual to force you to take a mate as you were their eldest and they had no male heirs and probably never would if you were to believe the seer. You wanted away from them as far as possible.
The thought occurred to you on the way to Bucky's caves. The only way you could be free is if you left the sea. Your thoughts drifted to the spoiled but good-hearted prince you saved a few weeks ago.
No longer crying, but still seeking comfort, you launch yourself at Bucky who doesn't hesitate to embrace you with his arms and tentacles alike. He strokes your hair and whispers soothing words.
"What happened, my little mermaid?"
"He will agree to hold a Dolphin Dance for me. I will be raped again and again like those monsters mate. I will be forced to take it until one of them knocks me up and becomes my mate forever." You are hiccuping again and melting into the safety of him even more.
"Shh, it's gonna be alright. Your mother would never let them do that." He tries to argue but you interrupt him, only having managing to whisper the words.
"I had a dream before I heard them. My hands were tied behind my back, everyone was watching while they chased me in a coral cage. One caught up and held me while he... he... and then another wrestled himself into his place and... there were so many... I can't, please, I can't..." You couldn't bring yourself to say the words and he wasn't forcing you to. Feeling the rage radiate off of him, you dared to look up with red eyes and wobbly lips and ask what you never thought you'd have to.
"Will you draw up a contract for me?"
"No!" He pulls away and turns from you, refusing to let you persuade him into this.
"Bucky." You call out to him, swimming closer, you touch his shoulder and gently turn him back to face you. "This is my only chance to escape him."
"No." It sounds like he's the one who is begging now.
"Please?" You hold eye contact with him until he sighs in surrender and looks away.
"You'll have seven days..."
"Not three?" He reaches out to smooth your frown, then cups your face in his palms and wordlessly asks for your attention.
"You'll get seven but promise me you won't fall in love."
"It's not something one has power over."
"Promise me." His intense gaze holds you captive, demanding you to agree.
"Why? I'd rather turn into sea foam than return there, knowing what's waiting for me."
"That will never happen. The contract is stronger cannot be broken, not even with the power of the trident. I made something of the original lines so if you fail with the prince, you will return to the sea and you will forever belong to me."
"Really?" Your sadness is nowhere to be seen and Bucky's heart almost bursts at the sight of your wide smile.
"You don't belong to them anymore. Just be careful on the surface. And remember, if he claims someone else, you failed."
"Thank you." You hug him again, this time with gratitude, not even thinking that this might be goodbye as well.
"Anything for you, my little mermaid." He says as he holds you close to him with his hands while his tentacles work on the contract, sealing your fate with the last lines of 'for all eternity'.
Tumblr media
Tony remembered you, he took you in and something started to develop between you. That is before the redhead appeared. It was like you didn't exist anymore. But you were surprised to find that you didn't really mind. You didn't put up a fight, instead, you often visited the sea and sat there until night has fallen. You were terribly missing Bucky.
The wedding of the prince took place on the last day of your time on the land. It was then, when your father interrupted the ceremony on the ship, that you found out Tony's bride was a seawitch.
She was a means to an end, who wanted to be queen and Bucky offered her this opportunity if she makes sure you get to return to him at the end of your seven days.
The betrayal hurt more than the time you realised your own father would stab you in the back and your mother would sit back and watch it happen. Bucky was your everything, your most trusted friend and he tricked you.
The ship was close to the dark waters which started on the other side of the nearby castle. When Bucky took you, both your father and the prince followed to rescue you but this was his territory.
Steve was held back by dark creatures then the water itself. Tony was washed and stuck on the shore and helplessly watched as Bucky dragged you to a little island of rocks.
Bucky was whispering soothing words while he assured you he will take care of you once you belong to him. He wanted you to understand and to show the prince that you were his.
He was holding you in his firm embrace, your back to his chest as his tentacles slowly got rid of your clothes, leaving you bare and on display for Tony to see every intimate part of you.
Keeping your legs wide apart while his other limbs found your nipples and clit, suctioning at the sensitive buds, making your eyes roll back and your body placid for him.
Tony's shouts of protest nothing but distant noise as your still foreign body was singing for its new master. Bucky brought on pleasure beyond your wildest dreams, turning you into a wanton creature ready to do anything for more. So when his mating arm penetrates you and he asks for a kiss you are ready to give in.
He builds up a slow pace, sliding more and more of him into you until he cannot go further. At this point, you were encouraging him to move faster and give you more.
Happy to comply, he did as you asked. His calming words turned into promises and desperate claims.
"You are mine. All mine." He moves in and out of you at a rapid pace while he growls into your ears, his tentacles still sucking and bringing you closer to the point where it will make you fall into a million pieces.
"I will give you everything... I want them all to see you are mine... I want to see you round with my heir... I will give you the throne... No one will ever dare to touch you." The thought of carrying his children tips you over the edge.
He doesn't last long after that. You feel him pulse inside you as his cum fills you and it makes you so unbelievably full that it almost hurts.
Before the sun goes down and your human days end, he slides out of you and holds you as you turn back. Blinking tiredly, you still see Tony for a last time before your new mate takes you under.
The prince is sitting in the sand, burying his face in his hands, refusing to look at the scene, the way a monster took the sweet girl who saved him. He will never know what you are as he only looks up when he hears the water splash and you've already disappeared by then.
Tumblr media
Bucky was reluctant to wake you a few hours later but he felt Steve get closer and he didn't want to fight in his cave.
He asked for your forgiveness but he only met silence. You didn't resist him when he pulled you after him, swimming in the direction of the palace.
About halfway out of the dark waters you've found yourself face to face with an extremely angry mer.
Steve aimed the trident at Bucky, who only laughed at the attempt, knowing he had more claim to it now, therefore no harm could come to him but he wanted to hurt the king. "Careful, you wouldn't want to harm the father of your grandson, would you?"
Your father was stunned into silence before he turned to you with a wide-eyed, judging expression that slowly made its way to his ageless face. "Tell me you didn't."
Bucky took a protective position before you when the other male made an aggressive move towards you. Your explosive reaction had your mate smile smugly at his enemy. "Are you judging me? After what you planned to do?"
"This is worse, so much worse. You don't understand. No. This is not happening. You are coming home with me. If necessary over his dead body." He tried to grab you but Bucky wouldn't let him closer.
"No!" You shout, your dream flashing through your eyes again.
"You can't be with him." Your father pleads you to understand but your nonchalant "Why?" had him snap at you.
"Because he's my brother!" He regretted telling you as soon as the words were out. Bucky tensed before you, not daring to look back to see what you thought of him now and your father refused to meet your gaze as well.
Your calm reply surprised them both. "I know."
"What?!" "What?" They both turned to you with comically wide eyes.
"It doesn't matter." You speak to Bucky but Steve replies in anger.
"Of course it does!" At that, you swim around your mate to face the source of all this misery and you hiss at him.
"We are not human. Why would those rules apply to us? You proved to be the biggest monster of us all, so it must be something inherited." You feel Bucky behind you and you lean against him, seeking comfort. "He's the only one who ever truly cared for me. If I have to choose between everyone else and him it's not a hard decision at all."
"You can't be serious." His expression turns pale and he silently begs whatever god listens to make this a horrible dream and let him wake up already but you continue to let your anger out.
"You are vile and I'm ashamed to be related to you. The crown should be his already but now it's my mate's right as well. Give him the trident, father."
He can feel its power reject him by your claim, he has no choice but to surrender. As soon as he hands it over he informs you that you will never have to see him again as he would rather live in exile than witness what you've become.
You expect Bucky to use the trident as soon as he has it but he astonishes you as his focus remains on you. "How long have you known?"
"Since you brought me home the first time." At that, he lets out a disbelieving laugh.
"Why did you never tell me?"
"I thought it was something too painful to talk about. It didn't matter. You were always my family."
After a long moment of silence, you hear him whisper. "Can you forgive me?"
He looks away in shame, wishing he had the courage to go about this the right way. He expects a 'no, never' but you surprise him again.
"Can you promise to never... ?" Just like a few days ago, you can't bring yourself to finish the sentence but he is quick to assure you.
"I will never hurt you again."
"I understand why you did it, I do. But I can't forgive it yet. Give me time?" You ask quietly, fearing his answer and your future with him but you don't want to fight. After all, he is all you have now.
"I'll give you anything you want." He swims closer, reaching out to you but halting before he could touch you.
"I want you." You don't know where that comes from but you know it's true so you hold his gaze steadily.
"Are you sure?" There's a warmth inside you that tells you he will be true to his word. So you don't fight it when a small smile tugs at your lips.
"Yes, my king." You close the distance and kiss him. He pulls you closer and holds you there as long as he can, smiling against your lips as the trident gets stronger with the healing of your bond.
He rests his forehead against yours, placing a few more pecks on your lips before he pulls you after him again.
"Let's go home, my little mermaid."

of salt water and loving gazes
Tumblr media
a sequel to “of salt water and curious gazes”
Summary: Making new friends wasn’t necessarily odd, not by any stretch, but making friends with the merman living off the coast by your new home was markedly more so. As you stared at Jotaro beneath the light of the moon, rocking along the surface of the sea, you realized your feelings for your new companion were far beyond friendship.
A/N: Thank you for all of the kind words on the other part and happy Mermay everybody! ⭐
Your meetings with the mysterious merman quickly became a permanent fixture in your routine. Almost every night, with your belly full of whatever you’d scarfed down for dinner, you would tuck yourself into warm, soft clothes and slip on your sandals to begin the trek down to the beach, guided only by the light of the moon.
It was all so weird - befriending a merman was a difficult thing to process after all, but it hadn’t been entirely unpleasant. You’d touched his tail and he hadn’t tried to drown you, or at least not yet. He was much larger than you were and if he’d wanted to kill you with those sharp teeth or drag you to the murky depths below, he would’ve done it already, you rationalized one evening as you shook the sand from your shoes. Despite his hulking, intimidating form, you felt safe by Jotaro’s side, like he was picked out by some higher power to be your welcomed, albeit unlikely, companion.
And you certainly weren’t falling for the beautiful blue of his eyes or the tiny quirk of his lips when you complained about touching squishy seaweed with your toes. Nope, definitely not.
“Come on,” he coaxed gently, holding two webbed hands out to you with an impassive look, “It’ll be fun.”
“How do I know this isn’t some ploy for you to finally drown me? Send me down to the bottom of the ocean to rot?” You asked jokingly, eyeing him with suspicion.
For some reason, it seemed that Jotaro had deemed this evening to be the perfect time to take you swimming, claiming that the moon was in just the right spot, illuminating the water just enough that it wasn’t entirely black. He knew you hated that.
Your questions sent a laugh bubbling from his chest, dipping his body back below the surface as if to highlight just how harmless he was, to hide his massive shoulders beneath the waves, “If I really wanted to drown you, don’t you think I would’ve done it by now?”
He had a good point, but you weren’t about to let this joke die.
“Mmm,” you feigned thought, tapping a finger against your chin, “I don’t know, Jotaro. Maybe you’ve lulled me into a false sense of security. For all I know, you could’ve tricked me into being your friend precisely to find a new victim.”
A look you’d never seen before crossed his face, his eyebrows scrunching in concern and his lips frowning for a fraction of a second before returning to his usual indifference. You hadn’t meant to hurt his feelings. He had to know that you were only teasing, right? Maybe you’d taken it just a step too far.
“I wouldn’t do that to you. You know that.” His response was short, resolute as he raised his arms from the water, holding his hands out once again.
You sighed, regret bubbling in your stomach. What a stupid comment to make to a new friend. “I know.”
A beat of silence.
“I’m sorry.”
He shook some of the water from his hands, seemingly impatient as he waited for you to decide what to do. “It’s alright, I know you didn’t mean it like that. You know, you don’t actually have to come out here if you don’t want to.”
You looked between him and the moon, admiring the way he seemed to glow where he swam. The water did look inviting and Jotaro even more so, lingering there with his arms outstretched. Clothes could always be washed, you thought.
Stripping off your sweater to reveal your t-shirt and shorts, you nodded. “I want to.”
“You sure?”
Without a second thought, you agreed, reaching your hands out to grip at his shoulders before you slipped into the water. He kept his own securely at your waist, ensuring that you wouldn’t drift off.
“Not so bad, right?” He asked, chuckling a bit before using his tail to guide you both through the water, setting a leisurely place over the waves.
“It’s freezing.” Came your immediate, disgruntled response, marked by slight tremors in your tone as your teeth chattered. You kicked your own feet in an attempt to warm your body, but it was as if your bones had already frozen solid.
“Just stay close to me,” Jotaro assured. “Or,” he continued, beginning a half-hearted descent beneath the waves, “I could dunk you? That’d warm you up pretty quick.”
You clung to him even tighter, scrambling to move up his body as he shifted, “Don’t you dare.”
You felt his chest rumble with a laugh, adjusting your position so more of your body was above the surface again and as it continued, you couldn’t help but join him, falling into your own laugh as you swam. He really did have a cute laugh, you thought, and it was nice to see him smile so openly. Damn him and his perfect, well, everything.
Perfection aside, being able to spend time with him in his element, drifting in the sea as the smell of salt invaded your nose, was something you wouldn’t trade for anything. There was a quiet intimacy to the moment that you couldn’t quite place, but you allowed it to settle, warming your heart and cheeks in the process.
As silence fell between the two of you, you felt your bones begin to loosen, skin warming thanks to his body heat. You continued to warm up as you felt his chest press flush against yours, so close that the two of you were nearly nose to nose. Lost in his eyes, you watched as his gaze flickered from yours to your lips and back again as he leaned just a fraction of an inch closer. It was as if you were both teetering on the edge of a cliff, waiting with bated breath for something to just... happen. The moment was broken by the sound of him clearing his throat, pulling away from you as he rubbed the back of his neck.
Had you been imagining it or had he almost kissed you? Why hadn’t he?
Heat rushed to your face as questions swirled in your mind, a wild storm of what-ifs and missed chances. An arm’s length away, you began to tread water on your own, needing a minute to just breathe.
The strange new energy dissipated quickly, Jotaro diving into a story about the adventure he and his friends had gone on in your absence during the day to distract you, or maybe himself - you couldn’t tell.
The merperson lifestyle always a little lost on you, but you did your best to follow along. Surely, he had no idea what you meant by a cell phone or what grocery stores were really like, so you could cut him some slack as he went into detail about stands - whatever those were - and the intricacies of sea urchin collecting.
You wondered what he was really like beneath the waves as he traveled with his friends. Was he less talkative? Or more? What did his language sound like to those who were fluent in it? Did they think he was crazy for speaking to you? Did they even know?
A splash of water landed right against your face, salt water burning your eyes as it hit you.
Bastard.
“Hey, are you even listening?” He accused, teasing smile resting just about the water’s surface.
“Of course, I am,” you fired back with a smile of your own. “Now tell me everything.”
You and Jotaro continued to talk and idly swim as the moon rose higher in the sky, cold limbs long since forgotten in favor of floating your way along the waves as you chatted with him. It was as easy as breathing, being beside him and feeling the sloshing of the sea beneath your shoulders.
Moments like these reminded you of your grandmother and the gentle words that lingered in your head whenever you took your seat at the end of the jetty. Jotaro, and the great expanse of the ocean itself, left you feeling lighter with each visit, like your problems were just a single drop and nothing more. Spending time with Jotaro was easy and you weren’t sure if you could ever find the words to tell him.
“This is nice.” You spoke, tipping back to allow the water to lap at your hair as you took in the pale light of the moon.
Jotaro’s eyes hadn’t left your form for what felt like an eternity, hypnotized by the way you moved, by the goosebumps across the expanse of your skin - by you. With the near-kiss weighing heavily on his mind, he finally turned away, dipping below the surface of the water to collect his thoughts.
You had accepted him, so wholeheartedly that it nearly made him dizzy. With a single, tentative smile and a brush of your fingers against his fluke on that first fateful night, you’d hooked him in and he knew he’d ever be able to stop coming back. Jotaro also knew though, just how dangerous it was to spend so much time around humans, but he simply couldn’t help it. You were like a shimmering pearl, a precious gem that he couldn’t bear to lose.
And now, with your body closer to his than it had ever been before, a realization came racing to the forefront of his mind. His feelings for you went beyond friendship, beyond harmless nights spent splashing water or trading seashells.
Jotaro loved you.
Righting yourself to turn back towards Jotaro, you panicked. The horizon around you was empty, save for docked boats and a lighthouse far off in the distance.
“Jotaro?” You called frantically, spinning around in the water in a desperate search for the dark-haired merman, “Jotaro!?”
Your muffled calls sent him reeling back to the surface, pulling one of your hands into his own. He watched as you jumped about a mile in the air before you sprung at him, latching your arms around his neck. “I’m right here.”
“God,” you huffed, breath ghosting over his ear, “Don’t do that. Leaving me out here all alone like a worm on a hook, flailing around like an idiot.”
“Sorry.”
Without thinking, his arms wrapped around your waist, rubbing a reassuring hand along the small of your back. You relished in the feeling for a few moments before leaning back, face mere inches from his own, noses and lips nearly touching.
He was breathtaking like this; hair dripping with water that caught the light of the stars just so, body covered in droplets that shone like crystals. His eyes were rendered even more beautiful with your proximity, a deep turquoise littered with little flecks of blue.
You could just lean in and-
His lips crossed the distance with ease, pressing up against yours as if he had been reading your mind. The kiss was sweet, clumsy and a little too salty, but still managing to send your heart stuttering in your chest all the same. Jotaro supported you both, keeping you afloat with his tail as your arms trailed back around his neck, fingers threading in his wet hair. He kept his hands on your back, clutching your shirt in each fist.
Feeling breathless, you pulled away to rest your forehead against his, a grin beginning to spread across your face. Jotaro swore he’d never seen you so happy. The twinkle in your eyes had him tugging at your waist, twirling you around in the water before pulling you in for another kiss. This one was just as clumsy as the first, a goofy mess of teeth and lips as you struggled to suppress your smiles.
With one final peck, Jotaro pulled away to take a breath, revealing one of the cutest blushes you’ve ever seen. You rushed to bring your hands to his face, cradling his cheeks in your palms as if to savor the moment, to make his flush last that much longer.
“I’m in love with you.” His words came out in a flurry, a sharp contrast to his low, unwavering tone. He was nervous. As if now, after everything, his admission would scare you away.
“I’m in love with you too.” You replied, rubbing a thumb along his smooth, wet cheekbone.
“This doesn’t...” he cut himself off to gesture vaguely at his tail with his eyes, “it doesn’t bother you?”
“I wouldn’t be here right now if it did, right?”
He smiled at that, bringing his lips down to connect with your hairline. “Mm, I guess not. Still think I’m gonna drown you?”
The question caught you off guard, a light giggle escaping your throat as you pressed even closer to his chest. You could feel his heartbeat.
“At this point,” you began, running your hands down to hold his shoulders as your eyes met his own, “I wouldn’t really mind if you did.”
Jotaro started to move with the waves again, casually floating on his back with you clinging onto him. “You have to be careful, you know. I am a vicious beast after all.”
You thought about the kisses you’d just shared, about the way he’d held you as if you would break, about his bashful smile and beautiful laugh and that adorable blush.
“Yeah, sure thing, tough guy.”
Your grandmother had always told you that the ocean soothed the soul, acting as a quiet reprieve from the hustle and bustle of your daily life - an escape. Here, in the arms of one of the ocean’s most beautiful creations, you were certain she was right.

Tempting Tempest
Shark!Bakugou X mer!reader (+more)
Warnings: mentions of noncon/dubious themes, slight violence, sexual themes
A/N: this wasn’t even one of the big ideas I had for mermay, but I started writing it at work and it just sort of happened. I plan on writing scenarios for both option one and option two (see the end of the fic), and if I get inspired, I’ll write scenarios for more characters too! I love mermaids so it would just be wrong if I didn’t post something for mermay.
Peering over a large lump of pink, spindly coral, your eyes narrowed in on an octopus, languidly scuttling its way through the sand. You licked your lips and heard your stomach rumble: octopus wasn’t the most tantalizing meal in the ocean, but at the moment, it was the safest when your food sources were so scarce. That, and a couple of its legs could satiate a few of your sisters who, like you, have not been mated as of yet.
It was May, which meant that it was time for the more male-dominant pods from the south to migrate up to the central waters to enjoy the warming waters. Both your sisters and other pod-mates alike had been snatched up by these tail-hungry mermen, either by being wowed and wooed by different trinquets and talismans the males had created for special bonding occasions such as these, or for the more stubborn and jittery merfolk such as yourself, being captured and forced to mate. Wooed or not, you wanted nothing to do with it, and the repercussions of avoiding the frenzied scuffle was lack of food and resources.
So that Octopus was yours.
Your tail swished back and forth as you slowly pulled your dagger out of your side pouch. Tasty or not, you and your sisters were going to feast. But just as you were about to pounce, a dark shadow loomed over the octopus. You looked up to see a marlin and your dinner-plate eyes only grew that much larger.
Mine.
You swam, fast and furious towards your prey, jetting through the water with smooth finesse. You were the swiftest in your pod, something you pride yourself on—even still, that marlin saw you coming a mile away and darted quickly in the opposite direction. That didn’t stop your pursuit. You chased the giant fish under large, rocky arches and through a tall, kelpy forest, determined to make the fish your meal.
It took you far too long to notice the second shadow that had been falling over you throughout your fishing endeavor. Missing a beat, you slammed yourself into a rock the marlin used to scale to get away. Goosebumps appeared on your arm when you heard snickering from above you.
Looking up, you could see only his silhouette. You couldn’t tell who it could have been, but you knew he was male by the sharp point of his fluke; he was a shark—possibly one of the most violent breeds of merfolk around. A short glance out into the abyss and you saw the marlin miles away. Your hungry brain told you that if the merman was in pursuit of the fish as well, and that if you were to fight him for it, you would undoubtedly lose, but looking back at the silhouette, you could tell by the tilt of his head that the merman had no interest in the marlin. But he had his own dagger in his hands. He was hunting and you were his game.
Before you could get another moment to think, the merman curled down in a beautiful arc and dove down straight for you. You inhaled through your gills and bolted away in an entirely new direction in an attempt to throw your pursuer off, but with a deliberate flick of his tail, he made the sharp turn and was trailing behind you in no time.
You stayed low, hoping you could lose him after swimming around around large stacks of sediment, but whenever you could steal a glance back he was right there, grinning wickedly, advancing on you even more.
“You can’t swim forever, little guppy,” you heard him snarl behind you, his tone half-amused with a note of agitation. You felt fingers curl around the base of your fluke, and though you tried to jerk him away, his grip was vice.
You descended, skidding along a sandy seabed, scratching your arms and torso on absconded rocks. You hissed in pain, but managed to keep a tight hold on your dagger throughout your entire fall. Large hands grabbed a hold of your tail and flipped you over with ease, pushing you back down against the seabed where pale, glittering sand pushed up off the floor and floated around you. Finally able to see your attacker up front, you had to hold your breath to keep from gasping.
Despite hating him on sight, there was a moment where you thought to yourself that he was the most gorgeous creature you’d ever seen. Ash-colored hair swayed gently with the easy ocean currents. Hungry, crimson eyes were a beautiful, stark contrast to the incessant blue that flooded your everyday life. And the way his bronzed abs flexed as he caught his breath had liquid heat rushing through your tail. You wanted to reach out and touch the hook-shaped scar on his left peck. It wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world if you did. Merfolk were curious creatures, and most of you found that the easiest way to satiate their curiosities was through touch.
So you did. You lifted your free hand and drew your fingers along the rough edges of his scarred skin. He bristled at the contact, but didn’t stop you, opting to eye you with equal interest. You felt the beat of his two-chambered heart thrumming against his flushed skin. It was mesmerizing—almost as much as the gentle rumbling that reverberated from his chest—the tell that he was ready to mate.
The tips of his fingers touched your bare shoulder, slid up your neck, and found their home on your chin. He tilted your head once to the left, once to the right to check your neck to see if you’d already been mated. He let out a content hum and placed his hand on the back of your neck. Fluttering excitement buzzed down your spine to your fluke, and you slapped your tail against the floor to try to ease your sudden fervor. It didn’t help, and by the look on his face, he knew he had you. You thought for a moment that maybe you could mate; there really was no reason to be so stubborn. It was only natural and you were of age. The alluring rumbling from his chest was obviously getting to you, but why would you let yourself be mad over being picked by a very attractive suitor. You could mate with him. You could…
But then he had to go and speak again.
“Not so keen on fleeing now, huh?” The triumphant tone he kept had your scales flaring. “And here you had me thinking you were gonna put up a bit of a fight.” He flashed a toothy grin. Sharp. Dangerous. You didn’t want those teeth anywhere near you.
You swung your dagger at him. He caught your wrist with ease. His grin only grew wider as he pinned your arm back against the ocean floor. You hissed at him, grabbing a fistful of sand and flinging it at his face. He coughed and sputtered, so you used that opportunity to sweep your tail up and across his stupid, beautiful face. He let up and you were able to kick against the floor and swim up in a desperate search for an escape.
From the view, it seemed you had three options.
Option one: you could brave the sea cave you spotted miles away. The contents of the dark were unknown to you, but you figured you could brave the unknown and wait until this merman loses interest. You probably wouldn’t be able to eat for the rest of the day, but it sure as hell beat being mated to some arrogant, two-pricked shark. (Octo!Aizawa—noncon)
Option two: fight the arrogant, two-pricked shark. You might’ve not been the strongest fish in the sea, but you were fast and, at times, cunning. Your pride was on the line anyhow and if it was a fight he wanted, it was a fight he was going to get. (Shark!Bakugou—dubcon)
Option three: swim away some more. The ocean was vast, but you were bound to run into something or someone that could help fend this fiend off of you sooner or later, if he doesn’t get tired from the chase first. Swimming away would surely open a few more paths for you too. But you’d have to be fast. (Other mer!character scenarios that may come up)

There's an alien asleep on the Justice League Watchtower. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, however the alien is on the outside of the Tower and wrapped around it like a snake.
They're huge.
They look like a merman, with scales and a beautiful tail. The scales are black with glittering white ridges, and from the face there are vibrantly glowing spots that look like freckles.
No one wants to really...disturb them?
They're just sleeping. They aren't doing anything bad, and the Tower has a capability to correct itself and compensate for the added weight.
Or: Danny's ghost form has morphed with puberty to fit his aspect; he's a space whale. Sort of. Also he wants to nap, and that space station looks sturdy enough to make sure he doesn't accidentally float too far away from Earth.

“Tom, are you sure he's going to be there?”
“I promise (Y/N), I made sure to have Harry and Sam ask just in case. I'm pretty sure he’d be coming only to show off a little and for the free booze as always, but he will be there nonetheless.”
You couldn't help the giddy smile that spread to your lips, clasping your hands together with excitement. Tom was your best friend for three years now and definitely the best wingman you ever knew - true to the rumours, as the brunette was making sure the person you couldn't stop thinking about would participate at this (quite extravagant) vacation Tom decided to organise in the Maldives.
That person had been at a previous get together you had with some friends but as strange as it may have seemed, once knowing his outgoing personality he was such a loner and that made him hard to approach. Harrison, Tom’s best friend. Around your age and incredibly handsome that you couldn't get him out of your mind. These nice blonde locks of hair that turned slightly darker now, slightly curly when too long, a well toned body and not to mention the brightness of his blue eyes, almost translucent but reminding you of the vastness of the ocean.
That boy completely stole your heart... and didn’t really speak to you that much.
It was not that you didn't try to talk to Harrison before but most of the time, he would just ignore you or at some point look disinterested in his surrounding until he would just leave. Today you were more determined. And even if the blond man came off like a snob or a jerk - Tom assuring you he was not at all -, you really wanted to take some time to get to know him.
“Thanks for asking me to join the trip, Tom” you said, “I can't believe you suddenly felt like “taking a break and let’s get wild and free to the Maldives’ really” you beamed excitedly, trotting before your brunette friend while taking a whiff of the air, completely infatuated with the smell of the salty ocean water in the distance.
“Come on, that’s all fine (Y/N)” smiled Tom as he joined your side, “you needed that little vacation anyway.”
“You’re such a div, really… Moviestar...”
“Hey! Don’t call me that now!”
Laughing, you both trailed up the floorboard pathway on the white sand that leaded to the beautiful couples of straw huts on piles. The little floating houses were already teeming with lots of people, most faces you definitely didn’t know at all but you still managed to catch sight of Tom’s twin brothers and some other mutuals friends of yours. A smiling Maldives’ waiter welcomed and guided both of you down the plank pathway to the first straw hut where at least twenty people were already dancing and enjoying themselves. After seeing how extravagant this kind of party could be, you almost regretted wearing a simple white beach dress with your bikini underneath, but everyone else was dressed as casual as you were as well so you felt much better.
After grabbing some punch and chatting with your friends you (finally) found for a bit, you kept looking around for Harrison but it looked like he didn’t arrived yet. At least that was what you thought until you spotted him in the shadow of another straw hut further away, leaning on the rails and staring out at the crystal clear ocean. He was alone there, away from the loud music coming from the other huts mixed with the constant laughers of the guests. You’ve never been more happy to finally find him that you were not going to let any shyness hold you back, and then you made your slow approach towards him.
“Hey Harrison, it's nice to see you again” you began, trying to not seem too excited. “I didn't know you were going to be here...” you lied through your teeth but it was a small white one, as you stepped up next to his right side.
Harrison’s cheek tilted in your direction for the briefest of seconds, giving you a small moment to admire his bright eyes before quickly turning away. A frown ghosted over your lips but you held your ground, trying to start a small conversation with him but nothing you said seemed to interest him. After several minutes of trying and failing just to get him to speak, you leaned out and looked at the water before whispering.
“You must really like the ocean...”
“I fuckin’ hate the ocean” Harrison snapped, startling you it almost made you jump backwards.
His voice was a lot deeper than you imagined, such a tone with a pretty defined accent could charm you right out of your clothes with very little effort. You shook your head at such misplaced thoughts before looking up at his face as Harrison was glaring spitefully into the distance, both his hands gripping the wood banister as if ready to rip it in half.
You never saw such a troubled expression before that you instinctively grabbed the blonde’s wrist and gave his hand a tug.
“If you don't like the ocean, stop giving it your attention and enjoy the party” you interrupted his train of thoughts, surprising yourself by such boldness. “Come dance with me, I promise I'm not as clumsy as I look.”
It was astonishing even to yourself that Harrison allowed you to pull him away to guide him over the center of the empty straw hut you were both in.
“You may have a very goofy face, so I bet you really are clumsy” the blond man snorted, his fine lips quirking up into a grin but you didn't mind at all, specially since he just looked so dreamy with that teasing smile on his face.
You giggled while taking more initiative by sliding one hand around his hip and taking his own in the other, your heart skipped a beat at the way Harrison interlocked your fingers together with his.
“You better not step on my feet” he warned, before sighing, “... not promising I won’t, though.”
Giggling, you immediately took the lead as Harrison slid his other hand to the middle of your back. You gladly fell into his steps, doing your best to prove you at least had some sophistication. No doubt in your mind, you'd be so embarrassed if you did actually step on his foot. On the other hand, Harrison had the perfect build for dancing, even if it felt like he wasn't exactly sure about what he was doing at the moment. It wasn't like it was hard though, just simple stepping you both back and forth to the music with the occasional spin was all he had to do. But still, dancing was not an easy matter for anyone.
Eventually it seemed very natural to step closer to each other, resting your hands on his hips while his own swayed down to your lower back before settling on the curve that started the shape of your bottom. You moved together, getting lost in the heat of his build upper body, unable to stop the hopeful feelings boiling inside.
The music switched to a more beat heavy and bopping rhythm, so you detached only to turn in his grasp and sway your hips back and forth against him. It took literally less than a second for his own hands to slide around your waist and maneuver your behind to rub up against his crotch. Both of you tuned the world out and danced so intimately, it felt like nothing else mattered.
“Maybe you were right, you don't have two left feet after all” Harrison mumbled against the back of your head, pulling his hands back just enough to hold your hips tight and sway you from side to side.
You blushed softly at the way the blond boy curved you into his taller more muscular shape, the heat of his hands and skin giving you courage to delicately rest your own hands on his own hips and meet his movements.
“Thanks, but I'm just following your lead… It feels really nice to dance with you” you whispered to him, momentarily closing your eyes as you leaned back against his chest. "My name is (Y/N), by the way. Tom’s friend. Uhm, I tried talking to you back then at the Brighton party from a few weeks ago but—” you trailed off, forcing an awkward smile even if Harrison couldn't see your face.
“I remember you” Harrison cut off. He huffed, his grip suddenly tightening against your stomach before he purposefully felt down the shape of your legs along your soft dress. “The chatterbox who talked to me for like fifteen minutes even though I never said a word back.”
“O-oh…”
The forlorn tone in your voice was unmistakable as you pulled away from his grasp and tried to excuse yourself.
“I’m sorry, I never meant to bother you… I just wanted to talk…”
Your eyes became a bit glossy. You truly hoped Harrison would remember you but it didn't sound like you left a good first impression. But then his firm hand latched onto your wrist, halting your movement before you could step too far away and instantly yanked you back hard enough to stumble into his chest.
“I never said you could leave, (Y/N)...”
With purpose his other hand slid down to the bottom of your ass, making sure you couldn't escape as he held you still, tightly.
“If you haven't noticed, right now we are doing more than talking. You invited me to dance... s-so let’s dance.”
Once again, you followed his lead as the blond boy began moving you both around the hut. One of your hands was pressing flatly against his chest but soon it slowly shifted up to his shoulder, meeting his movement and curving your body into the posture of his own. It was both heart racing and felt so natural to dance with him that you didn’t really know far that long.
Some time passing, you talked with Harrison while dancing and, like you had promised yourself, got to know him a little more. At first, the boy was the one to ask you tons of questions, not really letting you a second to ask something back but after a bit, you learned that Harrison was an actor, slowly making his place into the industry and the current big project he was working on. He also only came here because the boy like partying in general, also for Tom obviously and for the drinks.
It made you smile, Tom's first hypothesis being correct but you didn't really care about Harrison’s reasons. All that mattered now was that he actually came and was here, with you. He even offered a small excuse for why he was so silent when you tried to talk to him a few weeks ago, as the blonde man had a really stressful day on set and knew if he opened his mouth, it would just be party pooper.
“It's never pleasant for anyone when I'm in a bad mood. So I just stayed silent, but you just went on and on… It was quite entertaining to watch you though” Harrison snickered, watching you puff out your cheeks and call him a jerk for not saying at least something to you, leaving out the part where you thought he was just some player and you weren't pretty enough for him.
Eventually you both got tired of dancing after several songs and went to sit on the stairs which leaded to the sea. While going, you also got a silent thumbs up from a dancing and slightly drunk Tom in another straw hut whom seemed to be wishing you luck, which you were grateful for.
After talking a little more on the wooden stairs, the ocean breeze just felt and smelled really delightful that you pointed down to the wharf and turned to Harrison with a bright hopeful smile.
“We should go for a walk down by the beach!”
“Really now?” Harrison scowled, turning his face away. “The damn ocean is already surrounded us now, why would you even go walk along it…”
With a sigh the boy stood, shoving both of his hands in his dark bermuda pockets and walking away. A frown formed on your lips turning away to grip the bottom of your dress, trying to remain strong as you weren't going to beg him for sure.
“Fine. I'll go by myself… I-I can enjoy the moonlight even if I'm alone.”
Harrison turned back, watching you not even spare him another glance before carefully taking the steps down the hut you were to then walk onto another flootboard path to the front of the beach. Once back on land, you slid off your sandals and smiled at the soft feeling of the still warm sand beneath your feet.
The ocean breeze rustled through your loose hair and the salty smell of the water wafted into your nose as you walked along by the edge of the waves. The cold and clear water lapped at your feet and over your ankles, before you stopped and looked up at the luminous moon casting a beautiful bright glow down against the surface of the water. With a subtle turn, you glanced at both your sides before a small tear ebbed down your cheek.
“I'm always alone… does anyone actually see me?”
You got to dance with who you can qualify as your crush and he finally talked to you tonight… and yet, you were still not satisfied. Way far from being satisfied. You have friends for course, but no one can see how much you were hurt deep inside.
I wish I could just walk out into the ocean and never come back.
Lifting your legs you took a step or two towards the glorious and vast ocean, only to have a warm hand suddenly grab a hold of your wrist. Turning, your eyes widen at the sight of Harrison’s diamond orbs, a tear involuntarily gliding down your cheek that you quickly wiped away with an abrupt turn.
“I see you, (Y/N)” the blonde man said, simply tugging your hand and getting you to step out of the path of the oncoming calm waves so he wouldn't get wet.
“You wanted to walk, right? So let’s walk, come on...”
With a tight but not harsh grip on your hand, Harrison interlocked your fingers and nearly dragged you along beside him as you stepped further down the immense beach of the island.
You'd never been more grateful that Harrison didn’t called attention to the fact that you were crying, even if he clearly heard what you said for sure. The warmth of his palm and slender fingers were incredibly soothing to the loneliness inside your heart. Without even a second thought, you indulged sliding your other hand around his elbow and laying your head on his shoulder.
Just for a moment, that’s all I need...
His beautiful eyes casted down to the top of your head, gritting his teeth wondering why he just couldn't leave you alone... even though the boy had no intention of getting this close to anyone. Harrison leaded the way slowly further down the beach, avoiding the waves and glaring spitefully at the water, hopefully he wouldn't have to get any closer to it, this being his only goal at the moment.
“... thank you.”
“I didn't do anything.”
You smiled slowly detaching from his shoulder, until your hands were the only thing still connected. Even in pure silent but with the sound of the waves in the background, it felt peaceful and not being alone was just a million times better than the expansive loneliness you were consumed with a minute ago. Taking a small leap you pointed up to the wharf and ask if you can walk up there together.
Harrison flared his nostrils but still took you both over to the stairs, guiding your way up until you were walking along the light wooden platform. Slowly you started talking again, realizing for some reason you were just so comfortable with him even if this was only the second time you’ve met within the span of a few weeks.
Even if Harrison had somehow a bit of a moody attitude, you could tell he was not a bad company. When his handsome facial features were fully relaxed and able to laugh and smile, those were some of the best moments but it felt like he had troubles opening up and letting himself have fun.
With the moon at your back and being alone with him, the moment felt so right. So you worked up the courage to ask him “the” question you wanted to since the first time you met. Letting go of his hand you stepped in front of him, pushing back your hair that was becoming delightfully frazzled by the ocean breeze and smiled at him, shyly.
“Harrison, I was wondering… if you had a girlfriend—”
“I do.”
“Oh...” you whispered, the smile on your face faltering for the briefest of seconds but you quickly recovered, not letting it bring you down before you turned around and held your hands behind your back. “I... expected a handsome guy like you to be taken, so I'm honestly not surprised.”
There was suddenly a heavy pang inside your chest, but you couldn’t ask for anything more than what Harrison had already given you.
“I had fun dancing with you, and also got you, the brick wall, to talk” you said while turning back to face the blonde with a gentle expression. “I-I, well I basically had a crush on you— I know it's pretty silly… but you were kind to me in your own way, so thank you. I promise I won’t bother you a-anymore…”
The expression on Harrison’s face kind of made him hard to read, but you were honestly trying to not look as you walk past him, briefly grazing against his hand before trying to make your grand escape.
The thump in your chest throbbed so loudly that it was rather painful and the only thing you could focus on, which was why it startled you so much when the blonde man abruptly turned and grabbed your elbow that your foot missed the platform while you tried to pull away. The next thing you knew was that you were plummeting off the side of the wharf, panic flaring into your eyes and desperately trying to grab onto his arm.
But it was too late. And you were now falling in the ocean.
You squealed in fear, watching Harrison not even waste a single second before diving in after you. Both of his muscled arms wrapped around your body and switched your positions so he was bracing your fall, as you both smacked into the cold waves of the water and instantly sinked below the surface.
It took you a moment but your eyes slowly opened under the cold water, feeling jarred and vision momentarily blurry before they focused on Harrison. Bubbles flubbed from your lips as you called to him and waded through the water until you were finally right in front of him. His expression churned your heart as the boy looked so utterly distressed, so you couldn’t help but cup his cheeks and lift his head to focus on you...
But then, you trailed down and immediately thought this must be a dream.
Below his toned torso was displayed a long and beautiful turquoise colored tail fin covered in scales, a mixed of varied shades of blue shimmering with the moon ray. It was as bright as a freshly full moon, flowered out like it was encased in multiple diamonds. It was definitely the prettiest thing you have ever seen, that you couldn’t help yourself but glide your hand down to pet along its base.
Your fingers barely got to note that bumpy texture before Harrison grabbed your hand and placed his own against your cheek. Your skin warmed as the blond boy pulled you closer and shook his head, a troubled look on his face that you had no idea how to help him before he parted his lips and spoke directly to you, no bubbles coming out of his mouth, just words.
“Why couldn't you just leave me alone?!”
His words were like a stab to your heart that you just darted forward to wrap both arms around his frame, sliding your head over his shoulder flubbing “I'm sorry” to him over and over, until your body started to fall lax and your eyes slid closed, the need for oxygen overwhelming your body. Everything began to fade until you felt him grip your hips, wading his fin back and forth until you were above the water and coughing for air.
With a shove Harrison detached you from his body, watching as the waves carry you back to the shore by the beach. Your eyes fluttered a thousand times, panting and trying to exert more air back into your waterlogged lungs, before focusing on him. The moment your lips parted to call him out, you noted the angry expression on his face before the blond merman turned and dived down back into the water, swimming away at the speed of light.
“W-wait! Please, Harrison!”
You stood there, looking back and forth and as far out into the ocean as your eyes possibly could but Harrison was long gone by now.
“... Please, come back” you slowly whispered, gripping both of your hands over the front of your now heavy and completely soaked dress.
The way your heart thumped into overdrive was almost as painful as the heartbreak you experienced just moments before the fall.
* * * *
After sitting on the shore for the longest time, hoping with all your heart that the blond boy would come back, it became obvious after nearly an hour that he wasn't going to return. Shivering, you walked back towards the main straw hut and waved off all of your friends’ concerns, saying you just went for a little dip in the water.
The party winded down after awhile with everyone departing and respectively returning to their hotel. You went back and waited like a lost puppy on the wharf for Harrison as long as you could, looking out into the expansive beautiful blue ocean and slowly starting to realize why he hated it and didn't want to be anywhere near it.
It’s my fault. He didn't want anyone to know and I forced him to follow me around. He probably hates me now… but I'd just like to know if he's okay.
“(Y/N)!” Tom called out, joining and sliding himself next to you on the wharf. “I was about to head back to the hotel. Want to walk back together?”
He had such a kind and tender smile on his face, almost able to appease you with his slight rosy cheeks due to all the booze he had consumed. If only you'd fallen for someone as gentle and funny as him, maybe you wouldn't be longing for an elusive handsome merman right now.
“Thanks for the offer Tom, but… I think I'd like to stay a little longer, if that’s alright” you spoke softly, trailing off why you wanted to torture yourself any longer but you just hoped so much Harrison would come back.
“That’s totally fine, darling. Some people are still at the party, but don’t hesitate to text me if you want me to come back to not walk alone. Or I can even ask a staff member of our hotel to come here and escort you if you prefer. Just tell me, okay (Y/N)?”
You'd never been more grateful to have a friend you can trust like Tom; lovely, helpful and kind hearted. Stepping forward you surprised him with a hug and a soft thank you. After that, Tom said his goodbye's and left. You waited on the wharf another hour by walking back and forth to look at both sides of it, before deciding to sit at the edge. Almost another hour went by and now, it must of been nearly midnight as your doubts were high that the mysterious Harrison most certainly had no desire to ever see you ever again.
The party in the straw huts finally died down, the staff from the restaurant on the island now actively cleaning the mess done by the guests. Eventually, you laid down on the hard floorboard wharf with heavy thoughts that lulled you into a sleep where you dreamed about the warm and enamoring feelings of dancing against his toned and protective frame.
Some time later the sound of steps resonated on the wooden wharf, soon followed by a heavy sigh as someone bended down next to your side, running delicately the back of his knuckles along your cheek.
“I thought you would have left by now… silly.”
The mesmerizing deep octave of his voice jared you awake, a soft smile curving up on your lips at the sight of his astonishing emerald eyes. The blond man frowned before standing up and pulling away, turning around to immediately walk away from you but you suddenly jolted up to grab the back of his pastel hoodie he was now wearing, desperation in your fingertips.
“I'm sorry, Harrison— I… it's my fault. I won’t tell anyone, I promise—”
“Is that all you wanted to say?”
Harrison’s voice was monotone but his face was full of an abundance of emotions he just didn’t want you to see now.
“Y-Yes…” you whispered, letting go of his hoodie. “... I also just wanted to make sure you were okay, and that you didn’t get hurt…”
You smiled softly stepping up to his backside, placing your forehead against the middle of his back indulging for just a moment.
“Your fin is incredibly beautiful…”
One of his hands clenched over his heart, his brows furrowing together while he gnashed his teeth. When you let go and stepped back, the loss of your heat was actually incredibly startling as Harrison turned towards you, to then notice you already began walking away.
“I'm sorry for annoying you… I'll lea—”
“Stop apologizing when you haven't done anything wrong!” Harrison suddenly hissed, latching his hands onto your body from behind gripping your waist so tight it nearly felt like he was trembling.
The gruff sound of his voice had you flinching and your cheeks warming as he buried his astute chin into the fluffy tresses atop your head. His strong and tight grip seemed almost desperate that you weren't sure what to do but your fingers gently layered over his hands, petting and caressing his knuckles. Slowly, the blond man relaxed until his hold was lax enough for you to turn around and look up at his troubled expression. With a smile, you slid your arms around him and gave him a startling hug.
“I know you probably don't like hugs but… they can make people feel better sometimes.”
Such a soft sentence had his expression soften before his own hands slid up around your back, holding you snugly against his muscular chest. His heart was tranquil and steady like the ocean, maybe even as soothing as those blue waves as well. Harrison even had a delightful soft scent that was kind of addicting.
After a few moments, you parted while looking up at his rugged and handsome face. Those translucent and shining orbs were so alluring, so mesmerizing that within just a few seconds, you were leaning forward and pushing yourself up on your tippy toes until your lips were pressed against each other. His slender digits instantly cupped your cheek and slid the other into your hair where he returned the kiss full force.
Warmth washed over your body and simultaneously the words he'd spoken to you before, that had you detaching so abruptly that Harrison literally growled like a wolf full of primal desire.
“I-I'm sorry, I didn't mean to do that… But you have a girlfriend… b-but I can't stop myself from falling for you—”
You tried to turn away, but a yelp of utter surprise escaped your lips as the blonde boy tossed you down and pinned you against the floorboards of the wharf, not harshly to not hurt you.
“You're really naive, I don't have a girlfriend” Harrison rasped, cutting off whatever you wanted to say with another rough kiss, shoving his tongue into your mouth and tasting your startled whimper at his sudden furry. However you weren't about to stop him with the revelation that he lied to you.
The moment his hands let go of your wrist, they lifted and hazed right into the back of his messy dark blonde locks. Both of his own paws trailed lustfully down the shape of your womanly curves before pushing apart your legs and sliding his frame in between. Your skin warmed at the intimate contact of your lower halves pressing together, letting out the smallest moan.
“I don't want to get close to anyone, but you… You don't want to leave me alone or get out of my damn mind” Harrison husked, latching onto your bottom lip as he pulled away, giving it a nibble rough enough to have drool ebbing down your chin.
You panted up at him as the blonde man leaned down and trailed his lips along the soft skin of your neck.
"Ah— Harrison, I j-just wanted to get to know you” you murmured blushing, instinctively tilting your head unable to deny the want inside to feel more of his lips as he sucked on a tender piece of flesh here and there, until you could feel small love bites warming your neck.
“Then let’s get to know each other more… I'll start by getting to know your body, since you saw a part of mine I never wanted anyone else to see” Harrison hazed with a husky layer of desire, biting into the ridge of your ear while purposefully groping over the shape of your breasts, slithering his other hand up your dress.
A soft moan escaped your lips as he felt along the curves of your body, where you couldn't bring yourself to deny him and instead pushed at the back of his head just to press your lips back together. You could feel him smirking as Harrison gladly kissed you over and over again while feeling along the shape of your womanhood against your bikini bottoms.
“Ehem, excuse me but—”
Someone’s voice caught both your attention, trying to pause both of you as delicately as possible but your face was still incredibly red when your eyes locked with a waiter from the party as he found you in such a compromising position.
Pushing at Harrison’s chest you got him to sit up, even though he looked very displeased, but you merely grabbed his hand and pulled him along beside you.
“I'm s-sorry! We didn't mean to—… out here!” you softly apologized to the poor waiter but he shook his head, even if his face was slightly pink.
You were grateful you didn’t get caught into a way more embarrassing position, as you delicately leaded you both down the wharf to set foot on the sand again. Harrison didn’t said a single word but it seemed that the blond man was waiting for you to get further away from the restaurant, still along the beach before slamming you up against the closest palm tree, growling about how annoyed he was to be interrupted.
He snapped forward like a viper and claimed many more hot and heavy kisses, while sliding both hands around your hips and gripping the bottom of your ass to press you into his body as hard as possible. You whimpered at his roughness but tried to answer to his fervor, holding around his shoulders and neck as tightly as you could muster.
Sliding down your jaw Harrison bit into the side of your neck, pushing up your summer dress and lifting your legs to wrap around his waist, just so he could grind against your thinly clothed core to his heart content.
“O-Oh! Harrison!” you mewled to him with heavy desire laced in your breath, tossing your head back as you felt how hard he was already in accurate details.
The blonde boy grinned wickedly, relieved you were a woman who could admit your pleasures and not be utterly shy about them. Extending his tongue he lapped slickly along your neck, trailing back up your jaw until you were kissing feverishly once again. His hips swayed back and forth, rocking into your body a most pleasurable rhythm that would of been even better if Harrison was actually taking you right here right now, but the stimulation was there and it was driving you insane.
You moaned into Harrison’s mouth, unhinged until he pulled away and watched you make erotic overstimulated faces and whimper about how close you were already, which had his ocean eyes wild with primal desire.
“Gonna cum already?” teased the blonde merman, never slowing down while pressing the tip of his still clothed girth up and down your slit over and over again. “We only began and yet I can feel how badly you're twitching already...”
You whined loudly at how unfair his words were, gripping the top of his hoodie for dear life as he bounced you into him until you reached the most startling orgasm unraveled. Harrison chuckled as you felt lax over his shoulder, before licking the ridge of your ear.
“Mhm, we're just getting started, (Y/N)... Hold on tight.”
A tired smile formed on your lips as you circled around him with both of your arms and legs, and let him carry you back… to the hotel you’re staying at. Your mind wanders a few seconds about how the blonde Adonis that was carrying you could have guessed the place you were staying at, as it was not the only resorts on the Maldives’ coast.
“I asked Tom before where you were staying… and also your room number, if you’re wondering” Harrison mumbled as if reading your mind, his lips also finding the skin of your neck again.
Still too intoxicated by Harrison’s previous ministrations, you only recognised now the familiar corridor of your hotel which lead to your room. Coming to a stop you heard the sound of a door opening - definitely your room as you caught a glimpse of the number written on it while walking past - then closing right after.
“You also forgot to ask Tom to give you back your key before he left, silly.”
You let out a little chuckle before hearing the click of the door lock and not even five seconds later, you were almost instantly thrown down onto your very soft queen size hotel bed, feeling the soft sheets against your hot skin. Harrison didn’t waste his time and just pulled his hoodie off his body, offering you a nice view of his well defined abs before hovering back on top of you.
“Now, take off your dress” he then possessively husked, staring deep into your eyes as he gave both of your thighs a firm squeeze.
Such a naughty demand had you skin tingling but after pulling you dress up just a smidgen, you surprised him with a mischievous grin before grabbing and tugging at the tail of his hoodie with no second thought about it. Oh, his eyes met your challenge but didn't stop you as he lifted his hands and let you yank it over his head and toss it randomly behind him.
“Want to unzip and take off my pants too, doll face?”
You giggled at his smug smirk and you being a little vixen, you gave the clear outline of his girth a slow stroke enough to elicit a very tiger like growl from his fine lips, before finally pulling up the thin material of your white summer dress and lifting your ass to pull it over your shoulders, letting it drop onto the floor.
His predator diamond eyes narrowed at the erotic site of you wearing a pink cotton candy bikini, which he could already see through your white dress when you got soaked in the ocean. Harrison watched you blush softly as he trailed both of his hands up your slightly tanned curves, but you smiled petting your own fingertips along his chest enjoying the shape of his astute muscles.
“You look like a piece of candy. I don't really like sweets but…”
He tiptoed his index and middle finger up from your belly button and startled you with the yank of your bikini top until it was easily sliding away from your body, leaving your breasts on full display.
“... I'll make an exception for you ‘cause you look rather delicious.”
Oh, his lips were wrapped around the closest nipple in a matter of seconds, his hot and wet tongue utterly divine as he lapped hazy wet circles while using his other hand to roll and pinch the other tit, smirking at the way you gasped his name and arched your back like you wanted more. The shape of his warm fingers were incredibly enticing.
Licking his lips Harrison switched to the other delectable nip, swaying his tongue back and forth, sucking hard enough to induce a juicy wet pop before trailing a warm kiss or two down your stomach. His sharp intense eyes noted the damp area that outlined your intimate lower lips, no doubt from your previous orgasm and the blonde couldn't help the modicum of pride he had for making you feel that good.
With a look up to your eyes, it was almost surprising that Harrison bothered to pause but you wanted him very much, and didn't mind at all to continue this night of pleasure. One at a time he loosened the loops you had on both sides of your bottoms before sliding the thin material away from your body, leaving you completely bare beneath him.
Your entire skin tingled at the way he took in the unhindered sight of of your naked body, but it wasn't that you were overly embarrassed by it… It was the look in his beautiful ocean eyes that admired your frame like he was noting it to memory. From the trail up your legs, to the intimate area of your womanhood, over your stomach and breasts, until Harrison settled on the way your hair perfectly framed your face.
Sliding over your body he leaned up and cupped your cheeks, edging down to capture your lips for a surprisingly soft kiss like he was thinking about something. You couldn't help but appreciate some tender displays of his attraction as you welcomed the sway of his slippery tongue into your mouth and used your own hands to pet up and down his back muscles.
You mumbled some incoherent words with a soft smile as Harrison swished back down to suck passionately against your rosy little buds. He chuckled against your skin while planting wet and hot kisses, sucking every tender piece of flesh your chest had as he trailed down your stomach and licked teasingly over your belly button, delighted with the little wiggle your body did.
“Come on (Y/N), I want to hear my name roll of your lips as I have my fill of your flavour” the blue eyed merman seductively husked, pushing apart your legs only to instantly glide his tongue down your wet slit. He nearly growled right away at the delightful flavour of your essence and even enjoyed the automatic slide of your hands into the back of his hair, moaning his name on repeat.
“Please Harrison... devour me.”
You pleaded in heavy desperation, tossing and turning your head as the blond man answered your desires by shoving his wet muscle deeply into your core and curling it up and down, thoroughly enjoying your womanly juices.
Harrison’s hands gripped your hips pulling you closer to his tongue, his hot and heavy breath of sexual desire hazing against your clit and inner walls forcing you to twitch and spasm with every new pulse of electrifying pleasure he was providing you. Pulling back he gave one of your lips a pop, getting off on the way your entire body trembled as he worked his tongue up to your clit and licked hazy circles before sucking on it like a delicious piece of candy.
“H-Harrison– o-oh f–!”
A wicked chuckle hazed against your intimate parts, sparing you a solitary glance that told you he had no intention of stopping any time soon. Turning back down to his pleasure swollen target, his tongue lapped at your nectar before swirling as he sucked roughly enough to have you writhing in ecstasy. With heavy lustful desire for you to cum on his tongue, Harrison slid a few of his fingers up against your lower lips caressing up and down to entice you in a sensual V-motion before inserting both his index and middle finger. You whimpered loudly and gave his hair an over stimulated yank, that he didn't seem to care about, as he thrusted back and forth in your walls and got off maliciously on how tight and warm your inner folds were.
All your moaning compliments seemed to feed his hungry desires as the blonde gave you a faster rhythm, sloshing your juices and feeling your pulsating walls in excruciatingly accurate intimate detail. It just took a few more seconds of his tongue pressing against your clit for you to scream out his name in the throws of another vision blurring orgasm. Your slick arousal completely coated his tongue and even the tips of his fingers as he pulled away and made it an erotic show to enjoy them thoroughly.
“Mmh, you taste pretty good…” Harrison complemented with a chuckle, watching as your face darkened with a heavy blush before turning away and whispering how much of a tease he was.
“I do like to tease you, but right now… I'd just like to fuck you as hard as possible. Ready, (Y/N)?”
Such a question made every hair on your arms and legs stand on end, as he showed you the clear haze of lust and desire reflected in his pretty diamond eyes. Instead of answering, you sat up for a brief moment and felt along his abs before working the zipper down on his shorts like he asked earlier, and helped rid him of their tight confines.
The sight of his well endowed cock had you biting the bottom of your lip before bravely stroking his length up and down a few times, planting a kiss or two against his chest. His expression softened before tilting your chin up and capturing your lips, too full of desire to enjoy the feeling of your soft fingertips as he pushed you backwards on the bed again to quickly place his stout leaking tip against your entrance.
Even with your warm cheeks you gladly lifted your legs up for him, and snaked your hands around his slender neck meeting the sway of his tongue as he got a nice grip on your hips and pressed his own forward filling you up completely with one deep penetrating thrust.
When he pulled back, you shared similar grins before meeting in the middle for several enamoring kisses. Moving his hands up to your breasts, Harrison trusted the grip of your legs around his lower back before he started thrusting his hips back and forth. Almost instantly drool ebbed down your combined lips, as you mewled haphazardly into his warm mouth.
The blonde man squished and squeezed both of your breasts, rolling your nubs in tune to his movements as he buried his cock deep within your walls, purposefully made it a mission to mess up your insides. It wouldn't take much, since he was already rocking your world more than any man had before and you had no problem moaning it to him.
“Oh, Haz! Y-You're m-making me so dizzy–!” you cried out, throwing your head back at the hot and intense sensation you were feeling.
“You love it for sure– s-shit, you're squeezing me so fucking good...!” Harrison growled, attacking the left side of your neck as he shifted both of his hands to the bottom of your ass, then began to roughly push and pull you to meet with every sway of his hips. The raunchy and addictive aroma of sex filled the air as you moaned and screamed his name, digging your nails into his back, no doubt leaving him some prominent scratches.
After several hot minutes of leaving you an abundance of hard to hide hickeys, the merman pulled back and lifted your legs away from his waist, holding them up to spread wide apart so he could fuck and thrust as deeply into your walls as quickly as he wanted. Drool drizzled down your lips as you pressed both of your hands flatly at his fine toned chest, drowning in the utter euphoria he was giving you.
Your eyes rolled back, pretty whines and whimpers leaving your luscious lips, caressing a hand against his cheek watching his expression soften before he told you to lay back. Once you'd instantly complied Harrison leaned over your body propping up your legs to stay intimately splayed wide apart but he also interlocked both of his hands with yours and held onto you tightly.
You smiled widely against his fine lips as he captured yours, loving the feeling of his long and slender fingers not to mention how incredibly hot and sweaty his entire muscular frame was. This handsome man on top of you was really getting his workout on, and you loved every single bit of the pleasure he was able to give you.
With the lewd swishing of your tongues all over each other, the knot in the pit of your stomach was nearly at its boiling point and with your mouth covered you couldn't tell him. It really didn't matter honestly, you would rather swap saliva anyway as the blonde’s wonderful kisses felt sensational and divine you wouldn't dare give up the flavor of his lips.
Harrison must of felt the same way, as he barely seemed to be breathing during his hot and heavy make out. However he did pull away once he felt the unmistakable throb of your inner walls beginning to convulse against his cock, making him give you the vigor his muscular body could offer a woman like you as he slammed into your core over and over.
As soon as you let out an echoing orgasmic scream, Harrison held your body down and pressed his cock as deep into your pulsating core as possible, making you tremble with the searing hot wave of his arousal filling you up and leaking down your inner thighs, while he pulled away with the most primal grunt of his own desire. Instantly he collapsed down on top of your body, making you groan out how incredibly heavy he was, but your hands still lifted and caressed his back up and down as if trying to soothe him despite how haggard your own pleasured body was feeling.
After several minutes of combined heavy and exhausted panting, Harrison slid to your side where you followed his movement, smiling at him. Lifting you hand you hesitated for a solitary second before pressing it against his astute cheek, caressing his soft cheekbone. His expression seemed relaxed, so you decided to lean closer and give him a small kiss.
Harrison returned your soft peck, sliding one of his arms around your hip and yanking you closer a bit harshly which caused you to make an adorable squeaking noise. The sound of his laughter was alleviating as you pulled away and nestled into his chest, listening to his rhythmic soothing heartbeat.
“Are we even, Mister Merman?” you said with a chuckle.
“It was never about that, silly…” Harrison mumbled while holding you close, finding the smell of your hair softly reminding him the one of the ocean. And the blond man had to admit it was a scent that he found relaxing when on you. “I hate the ocean because I can't control the transformation, as you saw earlier… Being a creature of the sea is a curse, (Y/N).”
A soft frown formed on your face before you placed a tender kiss against the middle of his torso.
“We are opposites then, because I love the ocean so much. Swimming and walking along the beach are very relaxing” you whispered to him, using the tip of your index finger to trace a small circle along his abs, another thing he found soothing.
“That's what I thought at first” Harrison started again, “I grew up in the water but then, I liked being on land so much more that I moved to the city and got the opportunity to have an amazing job. But the sea won't stop calling me... and I can't avoid it. I just want to be free… I want to be human.”
His grip tightened, and it just broke your heart that he felt so trapped.
“I can't cure you, Haz… I-I don't know how to help you but…” you gulped down the fear inside your guts before tilting your head up to admire the handsome features of his face.
“But your fin is so beautiful, shining under the moonlight like diamonds… Please don't resent how enchanting that form is.”
His ocean eyes rose before a tint of enamoring pink dusted his cheeks and he had to look away. Sure people have said he was handsome and all before, but no one has ever said “enchanting” when referring to his true merman form. The feeling Harrison had about you from before came back, the reason he had a hard time avoiding you and getting close.
Turning back to face you his expression was calm and at the same time a little hard to read, but his hand lifted and swayed into the soft messy tresses of your hair before pushing your head forward until your lips softly smooched together for a warm kiss. You enjoyed each other’s flavour for a few seconds then went back to cuddling close together under the sheets.
“I sensed it before” Harrison whispered against your lips, “and I didn't want to admit it but you give me these waves... that are like the ocean. Soft and tranquil, like the morning breeze. But beneath the surface you hide the storm brewing inside, constantly…”
You carefully listened to him, not daring to say a single word as you may know where he was going with that talk.
“Don't do that anymore. I won't let you feel lonely, (Y/N). Ever.”
Tears formed in your eyes. That mixed bag of feelings which composed your person was clearly hard to decipher, even more for someone who didn’t really know you beforehand, but the man in front of you did it. So clearly and astutely it was almost shocking, but you were so grateful it was a man like him.
Lifting both your hands you wrapped them around Harrison’s neck and pecked him softly not just once but twice on the lips, delighted in the teasing little smile adorning his lips before you rested against the pillow in front of him.
“Alright. But I hope… that you will show me your pretty tail fin again, one day” you said, smiling kindly at him.
“Out of all the words, ‘pretty’... really?” Harrison noted, a little blush making its way back on his cheeks with a pout. “At least say ‘enchanting’ again…”
That adorable reaction of his made you giggle, and even if Harrison didn’t dare to say it out loud (yet), that sound ringed beautifully to his ears. Ahe he wanted to preserve it at all costs.
“But if you’re a good girl, I'll show you tomorrow night when no one else is around… and maybe we will do it again in that form?”
“H-Harrison!” you blushed hard in a stutter, not expecting that cheeky remark from the dreamy merman you were sharing your bed with.
As they say, there is a first time for everything...
Oh well.

Excerpt: “Why are you telling me this now, Willow?” you asked, chewing on your straw.
“I can’t keep my nose out of other people’s business.”
You glared at your friend and she snickered under breath, elegantly swirling her drink with a perfectly manicured hand.
“I just want you to be happy. And I don’t want to see you missing out on a good thing.”

༻✦༺ ༻✧༺ ༻✦༺
Ancient skeletons of long dead trees haunted the sands of Driftwood Beach. Petrified branches bent in all directions, reaching toward the sky, celebrating that even in death, their bodies served as an organic playground and haven for the living. Children and adults alike climbed along the writhing branches of trees fallen centuries before. Even in death, the haunted were kept loving company by the living.
You stood at the edge of the water, relishing in the way your toes pressed further into the sand as the cool water rushed past your ankles. The sun was low, coloring the skies a soft sorbet pink and orange. Out of the corner of your eye, you watched as Teddy victimized the seagulls making their way inland for the night.Your eyes drifted toward the open water of Lake Obsidian, its deep blue darkening as they day neared its end. From your point of view on the beach, the water was calm. Inside, you felt a tumult in your stomach, churning at what Dresden could possibly have planned when he asked to meet you.
Suddenly, Teddy was yapping at the water and in the distance you saw a familiar, finned form waving in the distance.
"You gonna stand there all day? We're gonna lose sunlight!"
You shuffled your feet in the sand.
"I was thinking we could start small! Here seems like really good progress already!"
Even from yards away you could see the exasperation on Dresden's face. You turned to see Teddy run head-long into the crashing waves, doggy-paddling toward Dresden, big brown head bobbing happily in the water.
"You're really gonna let your beast show you up like that?" the merman chided.
Show off, you thought ruefully. You stripped yourself of your jean shorts and jacket, down to bikini bottoms and rash guard. Despite the buzz of anxiety in your stomach, you picked up your paddle board and made your way out into waves. With every step you took the water rose higher and higher, until you stopped in your tracks. Waist deep in the water, your body refused to take a step further, muscles locking up in place.
"You're doing great! Keep coming towards me!" You looked up to see Dresden’s lopsided grin cheering you on.
"Dresden, I can't do this," you blurted clutching desperately at your floating paddle board, "I want to go back."
The water around you ebbed and flowed, swaying you with a force you weren’t familiar with and there was a gentle push at your back that you resisted. If it weren't for the death-grip on your board, your hands would have no doubt been shaking. Even when you were a kid, there was not enough candy or promises of gifts in the world that would have cajoled you into swimming in deep water. This was the farthest you had ever been and the newfound sensations were overwhelming.
"Wait wait wait! Just wait for me! I'll come to you, don't move!" He dove below the surface of the water, his flukes flashing before disappearing completely. Moments later, his head resurfaced in front of you.
"How're you feeling?" Dresden asked, eyeing the no-doubt panicky expression on your face.
"Like I'm about to crawl out of my skin."
He let out a little chuff at which you glared at.
"You're making jokes. That's good," he laughed. You held his gaze, trying to ignore the vast expanse of water around you. But also out of sheer resentment.
"I feel like if I say anything else, we won't be friends anymore," you ground out through gritted teeth. A stray current, made another push at your back and you clenched even tighter to your board for what little semblance of stability it could find.
"Okay, well I swear on our friendship that I won't make you go out any farther today. Climb on your board."
Your brows furrowed in confusion, but you still clambered on, lying on your stomach like a surfer would. With your body out of the water, the overwhelming apprehension subsided. The board still rocked as it floated in the gentle water and your body tensed nervously. Dresden was beside you now, a large hand on the nose of the paddle board keeping you from floating away.
“Good, now take a deep breath and close your eyes," he said. You looked at him, aghast.
"I'm not gonna let anything happen to you," he promised.
"Dres, I don't know about this," you faltered. He considered your expression for a moment and instead of acquiescing, his bigger hand took yours and wrapped around it tight.
"The worst that will happen, is that you feel a little stupid.”
You looked at him once more with doubt but promptly shut your eyes, laying your forehead down on your arms. The board's unstable rocking made your stomach turn and the occasional wash of water sent shivers up your spine.
"Okay, now tell me everything you're feeling right now," came Dresden's calm voice. You gripped his hand tighter, the only source of stability you could feel.
"Scared. I'm really scared. I don’t like that everything’s moving.”
"Okay, that's okay. Tell me why."
“I-I feel like, I’m gonna get washed away. Or that I’m gonna get pulled under.” At your words, Dresden’s hand tightened in yours and you let out a breath that you didn’t realize you were holding. Self-consciousness washed over you at your admission. Dresden was right, you did feel stupid. You felt stupid for your irrational fear, for coming out onto the water. You should have stayed on land where things didn’t move beneath your body and the world wouldn’t threaten to swallow you up.
How lame.
“You know it’s okay to be scared right? There’s nothing wrong with how you’re feeling right now.” Dresden’s voice was much closer now, his breath ghosting your ear and calming your unwelcome thoughts. Now all you could hear was the crash of the waves on the shores behind you and your heart thumping in your throat.
“Okay, now take a deep breath in. Three-two-one.” You inhaled through your nose, the rush of cold air of the dusk filling your lungs.
“Deep breath out. Four-three-two-one.” You pushed out a controlled breath, your diaphragm straining. Your heart was not not so loud but there was still a pit in your stomach.
"Now I want you to name three things you can smell."
You hesitated at his words for a moment but focused on finding any scents you can trace. With your head buried arm, you smelled the faint coconut scent of your sunscreen. In the air, a soft sharpness of pine wafted through the breeze. Finally a scent of clean, crisp water filled your senses.
"Sunscreen, Pine Trees, and Water."
"Okay, now what can you hear."
Blood was rushing through your head and your heart was still loud, but you pushed past the sounds of your anxiety to listen to the sounds of Driftwood Beach. Beneath you, water lapped against your board, causing a soft hollow knock against plexiglass to echo under you. Above, you birds called out to each other as they soared overhead, crying into the open sky.
"Water under my board and birds."
Despite the darkness behind your lids, the world around you came into clear perception through your senses. You lifted your head and opened your eyes to find Dresden watching you intensely, mossy green of his eyes darkening faintly.
The moment between you twisted like a knot tightening with every quiet second that passed.
“You’re not gonna ask me what I see?” you murmured softly. Dresden’s hazel eyes went and wide blinked, snapping out of his reverie. He let go of your hand, and for a moment, you mourned its warmth.
“No-no, I think that works,” he stuttered, a faint blush warming his sharp features. “How are you feeling?”
The sky above you both was now fiery orange set behind the darkening green of sequoias. The water around you moved with calm purpose, still but teeming with a quiet life. A faint sense of calm overtook you and you allowed your body to feel the gentle rocking of the water with the board between you.
“Better. A lot better.“
A comfortable silence settled and you sat up on your board, admiring the white moon in the sorbet sky. The idea of leaving your board still terrified you but your gorgeous surroundings were a welcome distraction and made a mental note to come back with your camera and a sketchpad.
From the shore, you heard aggravated squawks and a sudden burst of flapping wings. You and Dresden turned to see a sopping wet Teddy, galloping across the sand chasing a flock of irate seagulls.
"I better get back. If I don't feed Teddy soon, one of those seagulls might turn into dinner."
"Right, we wouldn't want that…” the merman averted his eyes, nervous to look you in the eye. “This was probably a lot for today, so I was thinking we could meet up again in a couple days? Whatever works-"
"No let's meet again tomorrow," you blurted, "This really helped a lot." Your face reddened. Your mouth had spoken before your mind had a chance to process what you were volunteering to do. Still, Dresden’s face lit up in a big grin.
"Okay, great. I'll see you tomorrow."
The two of you said your goodbyes and you made your way back to the shore. You could feel Dresden's eyes on you as you paddled towards land. It wasn't until you were standing on the solid shore did you see him wave from a distance and then disappear under the water.
You replayed the last half hour in your head. You had always known Dresden to joke and laugh at the expense of other people and you weren’t used to the care that he took with you and the warmth of his large hand in yours.
As you walked to your car, with Teddy in tow, you wondered how you never noticed that the soft curves of his boyish face turned into angles and edges.
༻✦༺ ༻✧༺ ༻✦༺
Despite every ounce of fear screaming at you, you spent each sunset with Dresden, wading out into the water, pushing yourself farther and farther from the shore. And like the tides, your fear ebbed and flowed. On bad days, you would be paralyzed, muscles stiffened as you lay on your paddle board. Dresden would always hold your hand, his grip firm and solid with a silent pledge to keep you safe. His voice, coaching you through the worst of your panic, would be uncharacteristically gentle.
On the better days, you two would work through the breathing exercises and then spend time reminiscing on childhood memories or talk about your respective work. You would sit on your board, mindfully allowing yourself to drift on the water, and talk about your growing frustration with your paintings and the inescapable deadline of the gallery opening. Dresden would then tell you about how his work mapping the underwater caves of Lake Obsidian was going with the local university, complaining about one particularly grumpy selkie lead researcher and the various ineptitudes of the doctoral students.
"Wait, wait so even the mer don't know how deep the lake is?"
"Nope, at some point it gets too dark to even see. Makes it dangerous. You lose your sense of direction." The thought of endless darkness and thousands of pounds of pressure on your head gave you a full-body shiver. Dresden laughed.
"Still it's not a bad gig. Helps with relations with the land folk and sometimes, you find cool stuff you can keep for yourself."
You thought about the fossilized ammonite that sat on the mantelpiece in your living room. The opalised fossil shimmered in the light when the sun beamed through your curtains, and you would stop to admire it when the stress of emails and showing dates overwhelmed you.
You tried not to think too much about how Dresden saved something that special just to give it to you.
༻✦༺ ༻✧༺ ༻✦༺
It was an early Sunday morning, a misty fog was just dispersing as the yellow morning sun warmed the chill in the air. You were wandering through the stalls of Talon Point's farmers market, admiring the vast variety of produce. Some you recognized: bright red and orange tomatoes, plump as a baby's cheek, broccoli and sprouts green and freshly picked, but there were also other varieties you didn't recognize, bright purple and magenta spices that sat in a pile as tall as you were and some sort of blue fruit perfectly cubed and shiny.
Even with your giant grocery tote filled to the brim with your usual fare, you still liked to wander through aisles, admiring the strange sights and shiny crafts of the local artisans. With a sudden pull, Teddy tugged you by his leash towards the specialty bakery that made treats for humans and non-humans alike. Warm smells of fresh croissants and chocolate eclairs wafted through the air and he made a dead stop just outside the door plopping his giant behind in an obedient sit, knowing better than to barge into a doorway without your express permission. You had to chuckle lightly at his polite adamance.
"Alright, but only one today. You're starting to look a little fluffy and I don't mean the fur," he seemed to harumph in protest but stood his ground. Inside the bakery, you saw a vast array of baked goods: doughnuts, croissants, tiny cakes, and even dainty cake pops. Behind the glass counter was an orc with an immense frame, balancing two gigantic trays of honey buns in both big arms.
"I'll be with you in a moment, miss," he gruffed, sidling his way through what looked like tiny walkways.
"That's okay, take your time. Just browsing." The orc let out a soft grunt in response and made his way to the back kitchen. As you made your way down the aisles, you started to realize the variety of baked goods was immense: green pandan waffles, taro puff pastries, and Mexican conchas in a variety of colors lined the trays in the glass case. Finally, you came upon some pastries in the shape of fish with ogling eyes.
"Any questions, miss?" You looked up to see that the orc had returned and was waiting patiently behind the register for you to make a decision.
"What are in these fish pastries?" you asked, shyly. He made his way over to you to check the display.
"Ah, those are taiyaki. Normally made with red bean paste inside, but this batch has Nutella." You smiled to yourself, wondering if Dresden had ever tried chocolate before.
Can merfolk even eat chocolate? you wondered, absently, already coming up with ways to make fun of him for having the hazelnut paste stuck on his teeth.
"Can I get two of those and one dog treat, please?"
You watched the gigantic orc as he packaged your pastries, large chords of muscle sliding under smooth green skin, delicately placing your order in a crisp paper bag.
Behind you, you heard a familiar voice call your name and you turned to see Willow dressed in a baby blue sundress and gigantic sunhat.
"Fancy seeing you out and about, stranger," she smiled and pulled you into a hug. Before you two could even make conversation the orc behind the counter cleared his throat and you turned sheepishly to pay for your order. Willow smiled up at the orc coquettishly, and requested an order of a dozen cheese croissants, and then proceeded to brazenly leer at his admittedly toned behind when he bent over to pick out a cardboard box.
"Thanks, Gil," she winked as you two exited the shop. The aforementioned orc rolled his eyes at Willow and gave another huff before making his way to help out another customer. Your ears warmed and you hid your face as you exited the store.
"Excuse me, I seem to recall that you have a whole-ass husband," you chided, teasing her as you made your way through the main street, passing shop displays filled with antiques and other handcrafted arts.
"I'll have you know Romero and I have a mutually agreeable 'look don't touch policy'. Like window shopping!"
You rolled your eyes but smiled at her antics. “Is that what we’re calling it now?” You chuckled softly when her lips formed a pout at your chiding.
“Maybe you ought to consider shopping around, yourself.”
“I really don’t think I need more clothes.”
“Okay, now you’re being obtuse on purpose,” Willow huffed exasperatedly and you couldn’t stop the smug smile from tugging at your lips.
“Will, I already have the exhibition breathing down my neck. I don’t really have time to entertain any gentlemen suitors,” you sighed, stretching the tell-tale tingle of anxiety out of your neck.
“Who said anything about dating though? A fun little romp does the body and mind wonders. It’s a wonder how you stay sane when you never leave the house.”
“I leave the house! I walk Teddy all the time and me and Dresden-”
You clapped your hand over your mouth before the last of your words could tumble out. But it was too late. Willow didn’t miss your words and she honed in on you like a hawk.
“You and Dresden? You two have been hanging out? How?” Willow probed, a wickedly gleeful expression on her face.
“Oh my god, Willow it’s nothing like that. He’s been…” you sighed, trying to find your words, “We’ve been doing exposure therapy out on the water. He’s been helping me after the accident.”
Willow studied your face thoughtfully and smiled like she knew something you didn’t. You grabbed her by the elbow to look her in the face.
“Willow, what?”
“Nothing! I just didn’t think he had it in him to make a move.”
You sputtered, ears warming again with embarrassment.
“He’s not trying to make a move!” you cried indignantly. Willow smiled at you like a child who still believed in Santa.
“He looks at you like you put the freaking sun in the sky. Like, he’s literally had a crush on you since we were children.”
She smiled wickedly at your stunned silence. Despite her deceptively air-headed appearance, you knew Willow to be highly perceptive. And blunt. Willow pulled you by your wrist to the nearest cafe and sat you down in a chair of a patio table. A young tiefling waiter rushed out with menus and a water bowl for Teddy and Willow ordered two iced coffees while she waited for your brain to reboot.
“I feel like I would have noticed,” you quavered, still processing this revelation.
“You’ve been hung up on Micah for years. We didn’t think it would matter.”
The young tiefling came out with your orders, setting the sweltering cups on the table before, making his way back into the cafe. You and Willow took several silent sips.
“Why are you telling me this now, Willow?” you asked, chewing on your straw.
“I can’t keep my nose out of other people’s business.”
You glared at your friend and she snickered under breath, elegantly swirling her drink with a perfectly manicured hand.
“I just want you to be happy. And I don’t want to see you missing out on a good thing.”
You looked her in her icy blue eyes, earnestness shining through.
༻✦༺ ༻✧༺ ༻✦༺
All through the ferry ride back, all you could think about were Willow’s words. How could you have possibly missed something so huge? Your relationship had always seemed so simple and easy…
Or so you thought. Your mind wandered to all the sunsets you two spent together out on the water and the soft looks of concern he gave you on your worst days, when you couldn’t handle the anxiety.
You thought about the day of the accident, when he pulled you out of the water and held you shivering and wet, murmuring reassurances that you were safe. And then you thought about how angry he got at Micah, his oldest friend.
“Why else would he have gone ballistic like that?”
Willow’s words echoed in the back of your mind as you unlocked your door and made your way into the kitchen to put away your groceries. As you put away the produce you’d found the white paper pastry bag holding the Nutella taiyaki you had bought for Dresden and you eyed the crumpled paper bag cautiously.
Dresden would probably laugh when he saw the funny looking pastry. Maybe his dimples would show and the coppery fins that framed his face would twitch as he tried it.
Your thoughts halted to a stop. Why were you daydreaming about your friend? Instead of letting your thoughts whir along, you decided to do what you did when you couldn’t feel at home in your own head: you painted.
You padded to the art studio and rifled through your things for an empty canvas and acrylic paints. Instead of your usual set-up with an easel and a stool, you set the 18x24 on the ground and squirted paint onto a plastic palette. You started with a soft sand color, not unlike the sands of Driftwood Beach at sunset, and let your arm guide itself across the blank canvas. Lately, you rarely ever let yourself waste paint and a canvas without a plan, but right now you didn’t feel like thinking anything through.
You added purple shadows, painting in subtle planes of an angular face, detailing in soft cheekbones and an elegant jawline. Blues showed soft shadows cast by dark curly brown hair and a proud nose, while reds added depth and dimension to a clever face. For a playful arch of dark brows, you added grayish black to brown and touched up the curve of a playful smirk with pink an white.
When you started work on the eyes, your mind wandered to strong hands gripping tightly at your hips and back, keeping you from getting swept away. You remembered how warm hazels watched you, dark with concern and then intense with yearning.
A pleasant shiver ran down your spine at the memory. His inner irises were a rusty brown that glittered when he laughed and outer irises flashed a brilliant coppery green when serious.
You painted his facial fins to match with eyes, a uniquely striking coloring.
By the time you finished the piece hours had passed and the sun was lowering in the sky and you cursed to yourself before changing quickly and rushing out the door.
༻✦༺ ༻✧༺ ༻✦༺
You made your way out into the lake, this time paddling out on your knees, carefully balancing the bag of pastries on the tail of your board. It had been a few weeks and you weren’t scared to navigate your way farther and farther from shore anymore. Still, fear overtook you whenever you tried to swim out so you settled for adventuring through the water safely on your board. As you waited for Dresden, you straddled your board, letting your feet kick gently in the water, an accomplishment won once Dresden convinced you that plesiosaurs didn’t survive past the Cretaceous Period and wouldn’t try to take a bite out of your calf.
You watched as idly as the soft clouds rolled through the pink sky, noticing how the breeze shook the tips of gigantic redwoods. The final days of summer were flying by and soon Autumn would be upon Lake Obsidian. As you mused quietly about another year passed in this bustling little town, you saw a flash of a shimmering tale and a hand ghost up your ankle and calf. A surprised yip escaped your mouth as you flinched. Dresden popped up on the other side of your board shaking water out of drenched curls.
“Jesus Christ, Dresden, give me a heart attack why don’t you?”
“Sorry, couldn’t resist. You didn’t faint. I’d take that as a win.”
The merman smiled up at you with a big lopsided grin and you couldn’t help but notice the soft divot of dimples in his cheek. You looked away before you could get flustered, remembering your earlier conversation with Willow.
“I was in town earlier today and I saw something you might like.”
Out of the corner of your eye, you noticed the way the merman lit up and your ears warmed at his adorable expression. You reached behind you to grab the white pastry bag and reached in to hand your friend the little fish pastry, “It has chocolate in it though. I wasn’t sure if mer can even eat hazelnut spread.”
He hung onto your board while he observed the fish-shaped confection, turning it every which way before taking an eager bite.
“It’s wonderful,” he moaned, mouth full. You giggled as you ate yours, enjoying the crisp outside and gooey inside. You two munched in comfortable silence and you folded up the white paper bag and tucked it into the shoulder strap of your bikini under your rash guard to throw away when you got home.
“You humans are creative, I’ll give you that. Bring me more of those. I’ll consider it compensation for my services,” licking the remnants of chocolate off his lips.
“Excuse me?! This was your idea!” you cried, indignantly.
“And yet, you reap the benefits and get to enjoy the pleasure of my company,” he smiled up at you cheekily. Like you predicted, chocolate had dripped down onto his chin and you let out a soft snort.
“Pleasurable company with questionable table manners. Dres, you have something here,” you pointed on your own face where his face was dirtied and Dreden swiped on the wrong side of his own. You let out a little giggle at his confused expression.
“No, other side,” you tried again, laughing even harder when he wiped his arm across his jaw and made an even bigger mess. Dresden pouted but smiled nonetheless at your laughter.
“Why don’t you come down from there and help me,” he teased, splashing some water up at you making you shriek indignantly.
“Catch me then!” Before you realized what you were doing, you swung a leg over your board and pushed yourself off, awkwardly hopping into Dresden’s surprised arms with a big splash. Your hands found purchase on his broad shoulders as you got used to the chill of the water, and you enjoyed the way his arms instinctually wrapped around your waist and under your ass to keep you from sinking in the still waters. Your legs wrapped around his waist, steadying you in the gentle current.
“Good catch,” you joked teasingly, although you felt your heart rabbit in your chest a mile a minute. Still, you couldn’t help but grin at the dazed expression on Dresden’s handsome face, eyes wide in confusion and mouth agape. You reached up to his face with a wet hand and wiped at the chocolate staining his chin until it was clean.
“Thanks,” he murmured softly. You looked up to see his hazel gaze locked on yours, waiting in anticipation for your next move. Your fingers moved on their own, tracing the sinewy muscles under the smooth, tanned skin of his shoulders and you found them making their way up to a strong neck where they traced the delicate slits of flattened gills. At your soft touch, the merman let out a low moan that sent molten heat straight between your legs. His arms tightened around you, pulling you flush against a hard torso in an iron brace. You gasped softly, a whimper threatening to escape your throat.
Dresden dropped his head onto your shoulder and let out a deep shuddering breath. With strong, wide hands gripping your hips, he gently hoisted you back on your paddle board and pushed you to arms distance.
Embarrassment and self-consciousness crashed down around you, shocking you out of your haze.
Was Willow wrong? Did you make a mistake? He doesn’t actually want you like that.
“Oh god, Dresden, I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t have…” you tried, but the merman was already shaking his head, a warm flush flooding his face.
“We should take a break for a couple days,” he ground out firmly. Your heart dropped to your stomach at his words.
“O-okay… Dresden, I’m sorry. I don’t know what I was thinking.”
“It’s okay. I’ll see you around,” he blurted, before diving under the water and swiftly swimming away.
You didn’t remember paddling back to shore or making your way back to your car. All you felt was the sting of rejection and the burn of tears as they filled your eyes.

The membranous lids over Tamaki's eyes slid to the side, only to be met with more darkness. It was then that he remembered. He was alone, at the bottom of the ocean.
Tamaki straightened, now unused to the drag of the water slightly hindering his movements. His tail curled up, and he studied the overlapping scales that adorned it, looking pitch black in the dim depths of where he had lain. He must have fallen asleep after he'd fled from you. Tamaki looked up towards the surface, wondering how much time had passed since. It looked considerably brighter up there, so he'd probably slept the full night. Great.
The fins on his tail waved a little in the mini currents swirling around him. He watched a little crab wander over the grey sand before burying itself beneath the fine grains. Now that Tamaki was settled down, he realized how dumb his actions the previous night had been. Seriously? Running away? What good did that do for him?
You were royalty . . . . Interesting. He really should have seen it coming, what with all the blatantly obvious signs there were. Maybe he had been trying to lie to himself. Maybe he had suspected all along, but just wanted to play to the fantasy that you were still, somehow, not too far out of his league.
But a princess? That had been too much. And yet . . . Tamaki found that you never talked down to him. You never treated him different. You must have known he was a commoner, and yet you hadn't been put off by it. Maybe you were only interested because he was a merman? But you hadn't even known it that first day, and your kindness hadn't changed since.
Tamaki laid himself back down, sand softly shifting under his ruined white human shirt. He hid his face in his hands again, replaying the events of last night over in his mind. What had he done? You were so close to him, and the dance you'd had was nothing short of magical. The connection he'd felt between you . . . he couldn't have just imagined it.
The merman gingerly lifted a hand, letting his fingertips ghost over his chest where your hands had been placed mere hours before. He pushed into himself a little harder, trying to imagine it was you, mind beginning to race with ideas of how it all could have gone differently.
Tamaki's fingers froze. His chest was smooth. Too smooth. It was only then that he remembered what had made him human in the first place, followed by what he'd done with it.
The necklace!
In a moment of denial, Tamaki began patting himself around his neck, ripping his shirt over his head in a desperate attempt at finding the valuable object he was borrowing. But he knew it was gone. He distinctly remembered throwing it behind him as he ran into the sea.
He laid himself back down in the sand again, right next to his old shirt.
Stupid stupid stupid stupid—
Tamaki let out a high pitched keen into the water around him, trying to vent his frustration towards himself. Not only had he destroyed his chances with you, he'd also broken his promise to that Nejire mermaid.
It was over. He'd yee'd his last haw. There was no more hope for him. He'd have to go to live off in the corners of the ocean, holed up like some kind of hermit crab where no one he'd ever known would find him again. This was it. It was time to go run—no, swim—away again.
Tamaki didn't move. He allowed himself to lie down and sulk for another good, long time before finally hauling himself up. He needed help, that much was clear. Maybe Mirio would lift his spirits enough for him to snap out of this. Besides, his best friend had a lot of good ideas and always seemed to know what to say to Tamaki.
He flicked his tail, letting himself rise up a bit in the water before sluggishly making his way in the direction of his old home.
Tamaki soon came upon the merpeople village, the familiar outline of homes jutting from the sandy sea floor. He swam through them, trying to keep a low profile in case someone decided to question his disappearance for the past week. Granted, not letting anyone see him for extended amounts of time was nothing new for Tamaki, but now that he was guilty, it was hard to brush the fact aside.
He couldn't help but feel like an outsider among the buildings. Tamaki had never been all that social, so he didn't have the most ties to the town he'd grown up in. Really it had always just been him and Mirio, but now that he'd experienced you, he felt as though there was no going back to his old ways.
I may still have to, Tamaki glumly thought before finally reaching the large entry hole in the side of Mirio's home. He sent a ping inside, letting it bounce around the sandy mud walls. A dark form moved in the shadows, quickly telling Tamaki that Mirio was, in fact, home.
"Tamaki?" Mirio asked, running a hand over his face like he'd just woke up. "What are you doing here?" The blond finally registered the panicked expression on his friend's face, and ushered him inside. "What happened?" Mirio signed, floating back to activate a luminous lamp so it would be easier to converse. "Why are you a merman again?"
Tamaki crumbled a little, hunching in on himself. "I messed up."
Mirio's brow ridge pushed together, trying to make sense of what might have happened. "Did she reject you?" he guessed, trying to get his friend talking.
Tamaki shook his head. "No. It's almost like . . . I rejected her . . . ?"
"What?"
"She—Apparently—I didn't know—" Tamaki's tail wouldn't stop twitching, his fins waving in invisible currents. "She told me she's royalty," he finally motioned out.
Mirio blinked. "Humans do that? With monarchies?"
"Yes." Tamaki nearly growled in frustration at his predicament. "Except she doesn't have an empire or anything, she's what's called a princess. And her dad is rich and important and he like, owns the islands around here and I had no idea this entire time until last night and—"
"Tamaki." Mirio put a hand on his shoulder. "Breathe."
Tamaki paused, allowing himself to pull extra water through his gills. The sensation helped him calm down for a second, but then he began to fret again. "She—she was teaching me how to dance like a human, you know, with my legs and stuff, a-and we almost kissed but then I just had to ask her what a princess was and she looked upset and I ruined everything and I looked like an idiot—"
"Tamaki."
The merman in question froze again, slowly dropping his hands.
"It was an honest mistake," Mirio assured him. "Did she say anything about it?"
"No," Tamaki admitted. "But I ran away before she really could. There was something in her face . . . . She just looked so sad."
"Hmm." Mirio tapped a finger to his chin, thinking. "Have you told her you like her yet?" he finally asked.
"Not really, no." It was then that Tamaki's brain decided to give him flashbacks of the sponge incident, making him subtly shudder.
"Well . . . do you think she might like you back?" Mirio prodded.
Tamaki's first instinct was to say no, to keep his hopes from getting too high by denying any possible indication that you might think about him in that way. And yet, all the time you spent together, coupled with how close you had grown within the short time you'd known each other, and there was the moment you'd held yourself so close to him after you danced, mere moments before he ruined everything. If only he'd kissed you then . . . .
"Maybe," Tamaki hesitantly signed.
"And you know you like her, right?"
"Of course."
Mirio triumphantly lifted himself a little higher in the water. "There you go. Now all you have to do is tell her how you feel. Simple as that. She can only either reject or accept you. If she says no, then you can come back home with me and never see her again and we can pretend this never happened. If she likes you back, then yay! You have a girlfriend."
Tamaki was almost indignant towards how simply Mirio put it. Why did he have to make so much sense? But he had to admit he was right. Tamaki should just go back to you and apologize, maybe propose courtship while he was at it to get everything over with. Except one thing was stopping him . . . .
"So, uh, there's one more problem," Tamaki said.
"Oh?"
"You know the necklace I used to turn myself into a human?"
Mirio's eyes darted to Tamaki's chest, finding it bare before looking in his hands, as if he may have been holding it this entire time without him noticing. At the realization he couldn't see it, his gills flared a bit. "Tamaki? Where is it?"
"That's my problem. I . . . lost it."
"Why would you do that?!" Mirio lightly shook Tamaki's shoulders.
"It wasn't on purpose! I just . . . needed to get it off, and then I threw it somewhere . . . ."
"You threw it somewhere?!" For once, Mirio looked more panicked than his best friend. "But we have to give it back to Nejire! And you need to talk to her—that girl! What's her name again?"
"(Y/N)."
"Exactly! Is there any chance we could find it?"
Tamaki wanted to hope, he wanted to say that there was a chance, but he knew better. The ocean was so vast and violent, even within the past few hours it had to be gone forever. Tamaki should have thought more about the price he would have to pay for such a reckless action.
His slumped shoulders were enough of a hint for Mirio to what he was thinking. Mirio slumped a little too, feeling a bit defeated. "So is that it? Is there no other way for you to contact her?"
Tamaki began to think. You had been doing well with the sign language he'd been teaching you, and that stretch of beach Mirio had showed him where there weren't so many rocks would be a good place to meet up . . . . His mind began to spin, already trying to work something out for you.
"Well?" Mirio asked, wondering what made his friend shift his mood so suddenly.
"There may be something I can do," Tamaki said. After a few more moments of sorting out his thoughts, he began to relay them to Mirio.
"That could work," Mirio ruled.
"I may not be able to get my legs back, but I still have to apologize and tell her how I feel," Tamaki said, newly determined.
Mirio pumped his fist. "Let's go!"
By the time Mirio and Tamaki were ready, the surface had already surpassed its peak brightness. Tamaki vigorously pumped his tail in the direction of your island home, sincerely hoping you didn't hate him after the stunt he'd pulled.
✤✤✤✤✤
You hadn't slept well last night. Worry for your friend had worked its way into your very being, your position flighty and your eyebrows creased.
You didn't know how to feel. You weren't angry with him—well, maybe you were a little mad that he ran off without giving you a chance to talk or even say goodbye. You just wondered why he had gotten so upset. Truth be told, you'd thought he knew what you were talking about when you called yourself a princess. You liked how he treated you . . . just like any other person. He'd thought you were just another human. So that was why.
The realization had struck you the other night. You'd always hated the way people tended to act towards you; treating you either like you were some type of bomb or a piece of glass; dangerous, but fragile. Yet Tamaki had been different. Tamaki treated you like a friend. He was genuine and he was sweet . . . and he was a merman who had little clue as to how your world worked.
Had it all meant nothing? Would he flip that switch inside of him and never be himself around you again? Had that been the last time you'd see his carefree smile? The smile you were starting to fall in love with?
Love? You had more important things to worry about. Like your kingdom. And also the fact that he'd turned tail and ran the moment you said 'royalty'.
Stupid, you thought, though you weren't certain if it was directed at yourself or him. Forget about seeing his true smile again, you may never see him again.
You'd finally walked back to the chateau alone in the dark after deeming Tamaki gone for good. You hadn't even bothered to tell anyone that he was gone. What were they going to do? And it wasn't like now was a great time to reveal to an entire chateau of people that the boy you'd been hanging out with for the past week had actually been a merman this entire time, but now he ran away. Oopsie.
Ever your faithful friend, Brianne still poked her head inside your bedroom, wondering where you'd gone off to. She must have noticed the slump you'd fallen into after walking in on you laying face-down on your plush bed.
"Everything alright, princess?" she asked, concern lacing her voice.
"Y-yeah." You forced yourself to sit up in the bed, already in your night dress.
"Where's that boy?" she asked you. "I haven't seen either of you for the past hour."
You bit your lip, trying to decide whether or not you should lie. "He's in his room," you finally said, internally cringing at yourself for choosing untruth. "He doesn't like crowds much, so he went to bed early. I think I will too." You staged a yawn.
"Sounds like him," Brianne remarked. "He's stayed here all week and I don't think I've heard his voice. Oh, well. I hope he'll be up for the dance tomorrow night. I think he'd like it. Have a good rest, princess."
"Thank you. You as well."
She left and shut the door behind her, leaving you alone in your room with your thoughts. A week ago, you had been used to being alone, simply anticipating the return of your father from his important business in other lands. But now you had grown used to a very particular presence, and his absence was already beginning to settle very heavily on your heart.
One difficult night later, you found yourself in the company of your father, trying to keep all conversations away from the mysterious visitor you'd been harboring in the chateau. You'd missed your father, the king, and you still listened to every story he told you of his most recent travels. But at every pause, every distraction, your mind began to slip. It danced to lands of indigo-black hair, and infinite eyes of sapphire and cobalt, of a timid, gentle voice.
Tush! You'd let yourself catch feelings. What could be a more foolish move than that? You tried to subtly grind your teeth as your father began to talk about some lord of Ospal and their herring trade. Of all the people across all the seas, it had to be the one you couldn't have. The merman who fled. The merman who was probably only interested in you because you were a human.
Obscenities that had no business floating around the head of a princess angrily danced around in your mind, only interrupted from their chaotic boogie when your dad asked if you were okay. You glanced up from the desk you'd been boring holes into with your eyes, guiltily trying to wipe the blatantly aggravated expression off your face for a more pensive one.
You were dismissed after a long lunch with the king, retreating to your study to pour over your books. Maybe that would take your mind off the boy who'd made off with your heart. Or at least, that was what you'd hoped until you glanced out your window when a flash of movement caught your eye.
This window happened to have a lovely view of your beach, sprawling out below a large black cliff face abruptly cutting downward to dark ebony sand. Your gaze had grown used to the constant motions of the sea; black brackish waters undertoned with green and crested with white foam, infinitely pushing forward and rolling back on the shore. But what your peripheral vision wasn't accustomed to was a sudden flash of shiny brilliance lifting and falling from the waves beyond the rocks.
Your eyes darted up, uncertain if they'd seen right, and if they had, what it was they'd detected. But there it was again, and another. Two unmistakable scaly tails were poking out from the water. One was a sort of light blue green, while the other was more of an indigo black, reminding you of a certain someone's hair. You had only seen the likes of these tails in drawings; art typically accompanying a fantastical story, but there they were, basking in the steadily lowering sun right outside your window.
You shot yourself up, letting your chair screech as it abruptly slid out from behind you. Clutching your thin skirt in one hand, you began to run through the halls, flying past people in other rooms as you went. You flung the back door open, slippered feet pounding on the lush grass leading down to your favorite part of the island. They finally met the sand, your chest heaving as you focused your gaze on the two figures sliding above and under the surface.
"Tamaki?!" you called, hoping he would be able to hear you.
Sure enough, a familiar head poked up, waving to you urgently and pointing to your right. You frowned, confused as to what he was trying to say before he made a show of swimming in that direction.
So he wanted you to follow. That was something you could do.
You began to pick your way down the shore, trodding through overgrown tan grass and weaving through rocks deposited and littered throughout your path. After a few minutes of constant checking that the other was there, you found yourself on a new expanse of beach; this one still as violent as the last, but certainly more devoid of the large black rocks jutting from the frigid waves. It was then that Tamaki finally began to swim towards you rather than parallel, coming as close as he dared to the sandy beach.
You kicked off your shoes and stood at the edge of the water, wincing at each lap the cold water took at your bare feet. Don't go into the ocean had been drilled into your head so thoroughly from such a young age, that even going this far tensed your muscles to run at any moment.
You frowned at how far Tamaki had to float, bobbing up and down meters away from you. Hesitantly, you took another step, letting the water rush over your ankles and fleck onto your calves.
No closer, you saw him sign, fighting to keep himself in position and his hands visible at the same time. Not safe.
Your face ticked. You knew that.
"What happened?" you called out over the sea, hoping you'd still be able to understand each other. "You just left me, Tamaki. Why?"
Hurt flashed on his face after a moment of processing your words. I'm sorry! he signed. I got scared.
"Why are you all the way over there?" you asked. "What happened to your legs? The necklace?"
Tamaki winced again. You really seemed to be hitting the worst points right on the head. I, um, lost it.
"It's gone?!" you asked, incredulous. The volume you needed to be heard over the sound of the waves wasn't helping with your tone.
Look, Tamaki signed. I have something I need to tell you. I messed up and I was being stupid last night, and I'm really really sorry for overreacting—
He jerked a bit in the water, jolting him out of the rant he had begun to go on with his hands. He glared down into the water, and it was only then that you wondered what had happened to the second tail.
"Is that what you wanted to say?" you said, making him look up at you again. "If you need to go back home—I-I understand. You were a really great friend, Tamaki. I really liked you."
Tamaki shook his head, frantically waving his hands at you to stop. That wasn't it! I just, um, well, this isn't a goodbye. I wanted you to know—I've been thinking about it for a long time—I—I'm in love with you!
You blinked. Had you interpreted that correctly? He had just used a lot of signs you weren't familiar with. "What?!"
A little cloth bag was suddenly launched out of the water, splashing next to you and drenching a side of your skirt. You bent down to pick it up, watching as Tamaki's hands moved to scold his friend.
Mirio! She doesn't like it when you throw things at her!
You pulled at a drawstring that was keeping it closed. Inside was an assortment of shells, some of which the likes you'd never seen before.
"Are these for me?" you asked, clutching the dripping bag.
Tamaki nodded. If you'll accept them. Do you, by any chance, like me back?
You squinted at his hands. "I'm having a hard time understanding you," you said. "You've only been teaching me this for a week."
Tamaki stopped short, letting his hands fall back into the water. A sense of hopelessness began to wash over him. He didn't know how much you were able to understand. The distance between you frustrated him, and at that moment he would have given anything to be back in last night, with you pulled flush into his chest. If only, if only.
He punched his fist into the water, the resulting splash flecking him with a familiar wetness. So this was it. He had been so close, but you'd never know his true feelings. He may as well take his losses and turn to go now.
"Will I ever see you again?" you called, the expression on your face only describable as deeply sad.
He wanted to say yes. He wanted to say he'd always find a way to be with you. And yet, it couldn't be. You were from two very different worlds, and even now you were struggling to talk to each other. It would be best if he took the cold approach, steeling himself to never appear on your beaches again.
Tamaki was about to shake his head, sealing his answer when he noticed the grass on the shore part for a familiar figure.
"Gabriel!" you said, startling at his sudden presence. "Where did—how long have you—?"
"Princess, get out of the water."
You heeded his calm but firm voice, glancing back at Tamaki's head before gratefully stepping out of the cold sea that had been encasing your feet.
The burly man stood next to you, crossing his arms as he studied Tamaki from afar. "A merman," he stated. "So the legends are true."
You swallowed. "Please don't tell anyone. It's supposed to be a secret."
Gabriel nodded and held out a hand. "Don't worry about it, princess. Now what's going on between you?"
Tamaki had dared to drift a little closer, ears straining to catch words he faintly remembered the meanings of.
"He's leaving now," you said, casting your eyes to the sand. "I guess this is it."
Gabriel made eye contact with Tamaki. "You sure that's what you want to do? Because I have something that might change your mind."
You blinked, confused, looking up to see Gabriel fishing something out of a pocket on the front of his burgundy shirt. A thin cord was raised from the material, followed by a curious shell securely tied to the center.
"I found this little trinket washed up on the beach this morning. I knew it looked familiar."
Tamaki caught sight of the necklace, eagerly swimming forward.
"It's yours, isn't it? It was the only thing you were wearing when you washed ashore. I believe it belongs with you."
Tamaki finally gave into the waves pushing him to shore, surging towards you and Gabriel. This was his chance, the necklace wasn't lost after all! He could tell you how he felt and you could be together!
You watched as his form took greater detail with proximity. A long fishy tail more than half the length of his human torso powerfully pumped itself through the water. Iridescent indigo scales caught the light, ever changing between black and blue. Lighter, thin blue fins flared around the tail and from behind his ears. You couldn't help but think about how absolutely beautiful he was like this, in his original form.
It was then that it really registered for you that Tamaki was a merman. You'd believed him, and the stories of his undersea home only helped you to imagine him in this way, but it wasn't until you were actually able to see him like this that it clicked for you how smitten you had grown for this mythical creature, who existed, and was your new best friend.
He pulled himself onto the sand, dragging a once graceful tail heavily onto the beach. Gabriel placed the necklace into his outstretched webbed hand, and Tamaki went to lift it over his head.
"Wait!" Gabriel said suddenly.
Tamaki froze, looking to Gabriel uncertainly.
"That thing doesn't give you any pants!" he said, causing you to burst out laughing. "You can't be like that in front of the princess!"
Tamaki sheepishly lowered the cord. He had a point.
"Wait here, I'll go find you some." Your friend turned to sprint off, leaving the two of you alone together.
"Tamaki!" You knelt down and threw your arms around him, disregarding how cold and wet his skin was. "I was starting to think I was never going to see you again!"
He patted your back with shaky hands, having gone rigid at your sudden touch.
You pushed yourself back. "Look at you! You're an actual merman! That's crazy! Can I see your tail?"
Tamaki shuffled himself a bit, pulling it most of the rest of the way out of the water. He sincerely hoped that Gabriel would be back soon, otherwise he'd be in a bit of a predicament. His gills would stay moist for only so long.
You admired his scales, glistening with seawater in the afternoon sun. "Pretty," you murmured to yourself, eyes unashamedly scanning up and down his body. You studied the various fins and scales on his tail, marveling at how seamlessly he went from man to fish at the base of his torso.
Tamaki's first instinct was to hunch in on himself and be a touch embarrassed, but he couldn't help a sense of flattery at how your eyes scooped him in with such fascinated wonder. Remembering how the mermen back home would show off, he shifted so he could stretch out his tail a bit more, trying to gently flutter his caudal fins. The effect wasn't the same as it would have been underwater, but luckily he didn't look too much like a floppy dying fish.
"Can I touch it?" you asked, making Tamaki jump and go back to hunching in his shoulders. Typically, tail touches didn't occur among simple acquaintances; usually gentle affectionate rubs among close friends, and tender handsy touches during . . . those times. Thinking about it made Tamaki's entire face turn red, even as your face remained innocently curious.
He shakily nodded. What could it hurt? You gingerly brought your fingertips down onto his scales, finding them moist and cool and smooth. He was still a bit slippery, though you could tell he was beginning to suffer from the exposure to the dry air. The sensation of your fingers on his tail was foreign to Tamaki, and he found himself not wanting you to stop. You were so gentle, so tender, little jolts of electricity found themselves running all the way up to his spine.
A sudden whistle cut through the air, making both you and Tamaki jump. The merman turned, recognizing the pitch. A blond head had poked from the waves a few meters away, bobbing up and down as close as he dared.
Holy hagfish! he signed. You two work fast. On the beach, you're going to start that?!
Tamaki tensed, honestly having forgotten that Mirio was still there. How long had he been watching you?
You weren't quite certain as to what the blond was saying, but the way Tamaki's soul left his body and, if it were possible, his face turned even more brick red told you enough that you should probably stop touching him.
As if on cue, Gabriel saved you both by running back in with a pair of trousers. "For our guest," he said as he presented them to Tamaki.
You turned as he finally slipped the necklace over his head. The pain of transforming was over far faster than it had the first time, and within seconds he was standing and pulling the brown cloth onto himself.
"(Y/N)."
You turned back to him, seeing Tamaki standing before you again as a human. "Tamaki!" You pulled him into a second hug, letting his damp hair tickle against your cheek. Finally, he hugged you back, and the sensation was so warm and so fulfilling you never wanted it to end.
As always, the moment was ruined by your audience.
Two sets of hands clapped, one from the land, and one from the sea. You cracked open your eyes to look at Mirio, who motioned a sign which you didn't know the meaning of.
You pulled yourself from Tamaki. "Can I still understand you?" you asked.
"I hope so," he said, causing you to beam at him.
"So what were you trying to say out there? I couldn't see you that well."
"Oh." Tamaki looked at his bare feet, spotting the brown cloth bag that momentarily laid forgotten on the sand. He turned to glance at Mirio, who gave him a thumbs up, then looked at Gabriel. Tamaki knelt and grabbed the bag of shells, presenting it to you again. "I'm sorry this always ends in disaster for me," he began, letting you take it from him. "I just needed to get something off my chest."
"What is it?" you asked, wondering if he'd done all this just to say he was leaving you.
"Ever since I first saw you on the beach, I-I—I've liked you, (Y/N). And then I went on this crazy adventure to get myself in a position where we could meet and I could get to know you, and all that time, I-I just couldn't help myself. I'm falling in love with you, (Y/N), and I don't care if we're some of the most different people on the planet, I still want to be with you. I'm so sorry about that stunt I pulled last night and I know I messed up. I'm no prince or anything, but—please give me a chance."
Tamaki finally let himself meet your eyes. He hadn't expected to see your touched expression, looking upon his face like he was the sweetest, most caring person in your world.
"Of course, Tamaki. I'd be honored to court you." With that, you flung your arms around his neck and partook in the kiss you'd missed out upon the night before. Tamaki melted into your lips, his slightly salty taste mingling with your sweet.
The kiss didn't last long, but it spoke volumes. You pulled apart, cheeks glowing with rouge warmth as you took a final lingering look into each other's eyes.
Loud splashing made the two of you look back to Mirio, who was giddily celebrating with his own merman cheers. Tamaki smiled at his friend, glad to have had him at his side all this time, leading him to this very moment.
"Now, I have no idea what he just said," Gabriel began, making the two of you turn back to him. "But I'll assume he confessed his feelings, and now Brianne owes me a drink."
You and Tamaki chuckled, settling into a state of complete contentment.
"Now you two lovebirds best be getting back home," Gabriel continued. "The dance starts in an hour, and I suspect neither of you want to be late."
You gasped, having forgotten the welcome party that had been planned for the evening. "Come on!" you said, taking Tamaki's hand in yours. This time, there was an extra warmth behind it, and you took an additional second to twine your fingers around his. With that, you pulled him back along the beach toward home; Gabriel in tow from behind, Mirio still frisking along parallel in the ocean.
Tamaki couldn't wipe the grin off his face if he tried. Three weeks he had. Three weeks to be human, to fall deeper in love with you. It could never be enough time, but once it was up, he wouldn't rest until he found a way to spend the rest of his life with you. He pushed the gnawing worries down deep inside, letting excitement for the night course into his system instead. You and him and the town would dance under the stars, and no matter what, he'd give you the time of your life.
✤✤✤✤✤
Just as he'd expected, his three weeks flew by in a blur. He hid nothing from you, so it was a certain understanding quickly established that one day soon, he would have to go.
Taking the opportunity nevertheless, you spent those weeks well, hanging out in the chateau or wandering around the island. Tamaki never lost his curiosity for your world, and you were eager to show him everything you knew. He started to become familiar with some of the townsfolk, and even met a few sailors at the docks when they came. Tamaki also began to grow closer with your father, explaining after a few days that he was, in fact, a merman, and that, yes, you were dating him.
He seemed open to the idea, especially once he got to know Tamaki better. The king left you alone to bond when needed, and the two of you certainly did. News spread that you had found yourself a boyfriend, and everyone on the island agreed that you were cute together. Brianne was quickly let in on the secret that he was a merman, and she finally began to warm up to Tamaki.
Those three weeks were some of the best of his life; wandering the grassy plains with you and watching the clouds one day, holing up in your study for hours the next. You found excuse after excuse to kiss him, enjoying the way it made his cheeks flare with color. Every now and then though, he'd steal one from you, delighting in how the tables turned to make you flustered as well. Anything from hand holding to hugging fired his heart into a furious beat, savoring every moment he could hold you close as his own.
But all things must come to an end, and his mental tracker finally reached the number 29. You stood with your father, Gabriel, and Brianne on that expanse of open beach, solemnly watching as he waded further into the sea. You had given him a final hug and a kiss, and he whispered a promise into your ear that he would find a way back to you, and this one would be permanent.
Tamaki's body shuddered as waves slapped at his thighs, and he suddenly began to lose his footing. His pants slid off as his legs began to merge once more into a single appendage, familiar indigo scales scattering over his surface. He swam to Mirio, who had been waiting for him, giving a final wave over their shoulders. This was only a temporary goodbye, he would make sure of that.
After readjusting to being a merman for a bit, Mirio and Tamaki made their way south to visit Nejire, ready to return the now useless necklace. One long day of swimming later, they poked their heads into a familiar cave. Had it only been a month since they'd been here last?
Mirio swam straight in, confident as ever. He loudly clicked, calling for the mermaid. She glided out from an area in the back, lighting up at the sight of them.
"Hey, it's you guys!" Nejire pulled the boys into the back room, delightedly listening to Tamaki tell her everything she wanted to know about the human world.
Both she and Mirio fired off questions, nearly overwhelming him at some points. Eventually, they were satisfied, and Tamaki opened his bag to present the necklace back to its rightful owner.
"Sure sounds like you had fun!" Nejire signed, taking the necklace and putting it on a shelf behind her for safekeeping. "I'm definitely going to try it out sometime! I'm not sure if I'll go to that island. Maybe the mainland. Do you think I'd meet someone cute like you did? That would be so tragically romantic. I belong in the sea, though, isn't that right, Amajiki?"
"Actually," he began, "I was wondering if you had another option, something more permanent."
She stared at his stilled hands, then looked back at his face. "So that's what you want to do? Be human forever?"
Tamaki nodded. "I don't think I'll miss the ocean too much. I may not see Mirio every day, but we can still always talk every now and then. (Y/N) said that some of her other islands have calmer beaches that would be better for visiting with him."
Mirio nodded. It had taken him some time, but eventually he had grown to accept the fact that Tamaki preferred to be on land with you.
"You want to be human . . . ." Nejire mused, tapping against her lip for a moment.
"Is it possible? Can I do it?" Tamaki studied her face, allowing himself to hope it could be this simple. He had already accepted it was likely it wouldn't be, and he was more than prepared to journey through the merpeople empires around the world to find someone who could help him. But Nejire was a start, and it never hurt to ask.
Nejire's slightly pointed teeth made an appearance as she began to chew at her lip. "My mother . . . she was the last sea witch before me. She may be able to help you. She retired earlier this year and gave the shop to me, but I can go fetch her for you if you'd like."
Tamaki nodded vigorously and waited as she swam off. An hour later, she came back with a second mermaid in tow. She looked strikingly similar to her daughter, her hair just a few shades lighter. Tamaki assisted in explaining his situation to her, and she agreed to help.
"Normally I wouldn't want to be involved in breaking the laws," she said, "but it's their own fault for not enforcing them. I'll help you, little merman. You seem passionate about this human girl. I'll make you a brew, but just understand you won't be able to come back to the ocean."
"I know." Even if everything fell through with you, which Tamaki was certain it wouldn't, he was deeply intrigued with exploring the land and sea, witnessing the sights the earth had to offer.
"But mother," Nejire said, "don't potions have a tendency to not last long? I mean, once they go through one's system—"
"That's only for the amateurs." Nejire's mother grinned. "I know how to give lasting effects. Come along, there's much to be done!"
✤✤✤✤✤
You gazed out at the sea from your window, thinking about Tamaki. You were prepared to wait weeks—months even for his return, but even so you couldn't help but miss his presence. Your father kept you busy with your duties, yet every chance it got, your mind found itself wandering back to the timid mer-boy.
You hummed to yourself contentedly, glancing back down at your notes. You so happened to be studying some of the Greek legends; illustrations of gods and monsters decorating the margins of the page. You couldn't help but wonder if all of them were true, since you'd now met a merman for yourself.
Eventually you were able to settle back into your work, the distant sound of the ocean occasionally breezing into your ears as your pen scratched at your parchment. The story you were reading was interesting, so much so that you didn't hear your door creak open behind you, nor did you pick up on the footsteps that snuck up from over your shoulder.
A pair of pale, somewhat lanky arms gently wrapped around your shoulders. You jumped and spun, meeting two indigo blue eyes with your own (E/C). Raven hair fell over his nose and a small smile graced his handsome face. The face of the man you adored. The face of the man who would be yours forever.
"Hey, princess," he said. "I'm back."
...
The End.

Oooooo if 3-E were supernatural creatures who would be what 👀👀👀
Oooohh this is interesting to think about! I’m sorry, I don’t know a lot haha so I did some research to have more options!!
Karma: Demon
I feel like I don’t need to elaborate on this too much lmao. The boy is mischievous, LOVES to mess with mortals for no reason. When he’s feeling a particularly strong emotion, usually rage, excitement, etc, his eyes glow a shade of yellow-gold (like what canon showed)
Isogai: Demi-God
His crazy perfection in everything has to come from somewhere. His father was a God who left his realm and lost his immortality to be with Isogai’s mother, a mortal. Isogai only became aware of his heritage after his father’s passing.
Okajima: Half-Angel
LMAO I mostly picked this for the irony, but it kinda fits ngl. He’s generally a good, loyal, kind person and a very good friend. His perverted nature is his one big flaw and comes from the influence of his mortal father, who was his main guardian since his mother remained on Heaven.
Okano: Werewolf
I’m gonna credit this one to @greengargouille haha. They made a wonderful post about this idea that I still adore with my whole heart. But yeah, Okano being a badass werewolf with crazy athleticism and defying femininity expectations? Yes please.
Okuda: Witch
She excels in potion-making, of course. She comes from a long line of witches and magic-users in her family. So she feels quite a bit of pressure to be successful. She’s very talented but needs a tad bit more of control in her magic.
Kataoka: Mermaid
This one shouldn’t be a surprise haha. She’s a very strong and powerful swimmer...but where does all that raw talent come from? Surprise, Megu is a mermaid and she can transform between her physical forms at will. She loves the water because it’s her home and what she knows best.
Kayano: Part-Phoenix
I don’t know how this works and how someone can be part-Phoenix lmao, but it fits her way too well. A being that goes out in flames and starts a new life...isn’t that basically what Kayano did after her reveal? Her new life is her going by Akari again and showing her true colors to the class.
Kanzaki: Goddess
She’s apart of a very royal family of gods...all with ridiculously high standards and little respect for her. Kanzaki is very powerful and has so much raw potential but she’s never been able to show it. Her best skills are teleportation, invisibility, and a strong grasp on aerokinesis.
Kimura: Centaur
I’m serious about this one lmao. He’s a very fast runner and impresses everyone, and it’s thanks to his strong physique and raw energy in centaur form. Don’t worry, he can shape-shift back to a human form, but he hates it because he loses his height and is back to being 160 cm.
Kurahashi: Fairy
Of course, this bright, sunny, cheerful sweet girl could only be a fairy. She has a very strong connection to nature and wildlife, to the point that if they’re harmed, she feels the pain. Her wings are very tiny at age 14 can easily hide underneath her clothes. But by adulthood, they’re grown and able to use for flight.
Nagisa: Half-Ghoul
Surprise...this soft boy is actually half-evil :’). His father is actually a ghoul, and Nagisa was very much unaware of it for all his life. Hiromi kept it a secret and tried to suppress that part of him too. Basically I imagine what it means for Nagisa is that death draws him, and his physiology is why he has such a high bloodlust. When he’s pushed to his limits, he’s terrifying... (cough Takaoka cough)
Sugaya: Wizard
He comes from a relatively average line of wizards, who all moved to the mortal realm and own artisan businesses. Sugaya wishes to do something similar and follow his passion for art. He mostly uses his magic for that, levitating his brushes, enhancing his work, creating new things. He’s quite talented at conjuring.
Sugino: Angel
Yes, I’m serious about this. Sugino is a very good person and always strives to lead others down the right path. He’s good at guiding, but even he wants to live for himself for once. So he learns what baseball is and grows a strong love for it.
Takebayashi: Wizard
Unlike Sugaya, he comes from a super prestigious line of successful and powerful wizards. His family is one of the top ones. He feels immense pressure to live up to them. His talents lie in fire magic, particularly creating explosions. And he’s a very skilled healer.
Chiba: Half-Dragon
Fitting considering his name 💜 He has the ability to change between his human and dragon form, but it’s very shaky for now. His eyes are a bright, terrifying shade of red, and it exposes his dragon heritage so he must hide it.
Terasaka: Half-Titan
His Titan physiology is the reason for his raw strength and physical prowess. He’s incredibly strong and has a high endurance, durability, stamina... He’s a talented fighter and will always use his advantage to protect his loved ones.
Nakamura: Siren
She hates being a siren so much. She has to deal with boring mortal guys all the time, who for some reason, love her voice. She gets a real kick out of fooling them though, and the pranks are always chaotic. Since she’s been having to sing and use her voice, she’s gotten the chance to learn many languages. She has an affinity for them, and wants to continue learning more.
Hazama: Witch
I know this is a little cliche. But in contrast to the potion-centered Okuda, Hazama excels in linguistic spells. She keeps a journal of every new one she learns, as well as images of herbs and such. She’s very interested in dark arts, but will only indulge in it with the presence of someone else, to make sure she doesn’t fall too deep.
Hayami: Witch
Wow I’m really repeating so many. Hayami is a very hardworking, talented witch. But she’s so focused on helping others, she tends to get taken advantage of unfortunately. She’s best at transfigurations, altering things to her (and others) liking. Her favorite test subject is Okajima. She’s quite talented in hand-to-hand combat and having kinetic vision, which helps in magic. She wants a cat as a familiar so badly.
Hara: Fairy
Hara says “fuck you” to the idea that fairies are traditionally small and frail. She’s proud of her physique and strength, and her interest in fighting. She’s still the sweetest fairy there could be, always looking after everyone and all of nature. She loves cooking and sharing it with as many people as she can find.
Fuwa: Ghost
Yep our crazy, lively Fuwa is a ghost! Specifically, she’s a poltergeist, the kind who try to create mischief in some way and move things around. The reason why Fuwa is kinda wild and open about her passions is so she can be noticed by people...if her presence isn’t being acknowledged, she loses her physical form and goes back to being a transparent spirit. It isn’t all bad though. Her favorite thing to do is read mangas in ghost form, so all people see is a floating copy of One Piece.
Maehara: Vampire
This one is a little cliche lmao, but he’s a vampire playboy who always ends up accidentally turning his girlfriends into vampires too with his bites. No one ever suspects him of being a vampire since he looks like sunshine incarnate. He’s quite reckless and has come close to being exposed multiple times, and Isogai always scolds him.
Mimura: Elf
Poor boy is a little insecure about being an Elf...he tries his best not to stand out, especially given his dad’s love for the spotlight. He is good at basic magic, slightly above average. His best talent and what he excels at is photokinesis. He uses it on his filming hobby, to change what’s on camera, adjust lighting, etc. He can go as far as even completely remove shadows from the sunlight.
Muramatsu: Alchemist
He comes from a relatively average family of alchemists that used their abilities for culinary purposes. He enjoys it a lot, and is very talented. He prefers to rely on physical prowess when it comes to fights, but is able to use his alchemy additionally.
Yada: Vampire
Yada is the hot vampire girlfriend we all wish we had 😔 Just kidding haha. But yes, she’s a vampire and no one would ever expect it with how good she is at hiding. She plans out her life and days to specifically avoid sunlight, garlic, etc. She’s a very busy member of the school community and has tons of friends and connections. She and Maehara, her fellow vampire, constantly compete to see who can get more dates.
Yoshida: Werewolf
This is slightly cliche since he’s the resident bad boy, but it fits. He tries to keep a tough image even in human form partly since his family taught him to do so, and because it is comfortable for him. But he’s a softie deep down, and is nowhere near as ruthless as he’s believed to be.
Ritsu: Magic Mirror?
Hmm this is kind of the only option I see fitting for her as it correlates to her role in canon. One classmate has to carry the mirror around for her to communicate, but she’s very powerful and helpful.
Itona: Mummy
Ok so storyline here: he was abandoned to die by his family centuries ago, and his 13 body was mummified against his will. In present time, Shiro awakens him, revives him, and uses him as a tool. He goes through a lot...but is able to live a peaceful life with 3-E once all that is over. He wears bandages almost everywhere, only exposing his eyes which glow yellow when he’s using his power.
Bonus:
Gakushuu is a Demi-God, of course. He’s pretty annoyed that his elemental magic only extends to hydrokinesis and cryokinesis, but he’s still amazingly talented.
Ren is a Merman who flirts with girls at the beach with sappy poetry. He’s gotten caught in a fisher net too many times.
Seo is an Ogre.

Abandonment: How would your muse win back someone who left them?
Noise: Name one sound your muse finds absolutely unbearable.
Insects: Name something your muse finds gross or annoying.
Fear-Themed Headcanon Questions
Abandonment: How would your muse win back someone who left them?
Android: Connor would go over his memories to see if he could find what went so wrong that he could lose them. He’d try to make it right, apologize, maybe shower them with gifts if they are the type to like that (and Connor would injure himself on purpose just to talk to a certain technician if they refused to speak to him for some reason).
Human: Similar to android Connor, he’d also struggle with his own self-depreciation telling him that ‘it’s for the best’ or ‘you didn’t deserve them anyway’, but he’s just not willing to let something like that go. He wants to do what he can to bring them back and will be torn up about it. Never does he want to drive anyone away from him.
Naga: He probably wouldn’t understand why they left. What could he have done wrong. It would plague his mind, and he would send things he knows his lover had liked while with him, hoping to spark some of those feelings back. They were destined to be together, so why was this happening?
Merman: Connor would give everything he had to make his mate happy. They’re stuck together for life. He doesn’t want to be a regret. He’d give them the space they need, but it would tear him apart inside, curling around himself, feeling cold and alone. Maybe he would go out on a search for something he knows they would like, needing to find it, no matter what.
Noise: Name one sound your muse finds absolutely unbearable.
Android: High pitched frequencies annoy him. He also can’t stand hearing any animal in pain. He’ll go into full rescue mode if Hank accidentally steps on Sumo’s tail.
Human: Eating. He hates the sound of it. Connor will also use it as an excuse for why he doesn’t go out to eat or will go to the break room.
Naga: The crow of a rooster. He does not like when humans yell angrily. It sets him off. They either need to put an end to it or he will do it for them.
Merman: Boat engines and gun blasts. Neither one ends well for him.
Insects: Name something your muse finds gross or annoying.
Android: When humans treat androids like they’re nothing and vice versa. He believes that the only way they can break the chain of hate is by taking the first steps for forgiveness. Not all humans are bad, and treating them with contempt will only breed more hatred and fear.
Human: Being sick. He hates puking and just can’t handle it. He feels gross and just wants it to be over. He’s just so miserable.
Naga: He finds people to be annoying quite often, does that count?
Merman: When humans throw the bad things in the water. He likes collecting a lot of the human things, but he is not blind to the impact some of it has. ‘Ghost fishing’ is a particularly heartbreaking sight, seeing his kind, along with a number of sea life, tangled in large nets floating adrift, unable to escape. It depresses him every time he comes across one, and he does what he can.

How about a curse that made eclipse as light as helium and people has to carry her like a balloon?
(this is an older ask that’s been sitting in drafts for a while since I had to wait for the reveal in the latest chapter! Enjoy!)
I know exactly one leviathan who would just adore being the one to carry her around for a while instead of being the one to be hoisted.
She stared at the potion the ghost handed her and narrowed her eyes at him, “What is it.” she hissed.
He snickered, “one trick and you don’t trust me?” he asked with a small twinkle to his dark eyes.
“This isn’t wolfsbane,” she growled, fangs showing as she snarled at him.
“There’s some in it don’t worry. Look just. Drink it. It won’t hurt you. If anything it’ll make you feel better. Light on your feet!” he grinned.
She frowned and looked at it with a sigh. She pinched the bridge of her nose, “I am going to regret this.”
“Naw I think you’ll enjoy it. Brother should be back from the lake soon too.” he looked out the window to see the lounging leviathan yawning. He frowned, “I thought he only took a short time to change back?”
“It’s been weird.” she shrugged and drank the potion. She coughed as she handed him the bottle back. She scowled as he laughed. She gasped as she felt her feet leaving the floor and she reached to hold her nightshirt down. She gasped as she hit the ceiling.
“MARCUS!” She snapped, “WHAT DID YOU DO?!”
“Light on your feet!” he cackled and flew around her. He beamed as she whined and tried to get down but was stuck. “I’m testing out a new potion book master gave me so I needed a living test subject. It was either you or my brother and honestly, it’s funnier to do it to you because---”
“Marcus, can you get the fae to stop crawling in my hair?” Snatcher opened the door and looked around, “Marcus?”
The ghost flew down and the merman huffed.
“Look up.” Marcus pointed.
Snatcher raised a brow and gasped seeing the poor magicked woman on the ceiling. Bright red tears dripped down her cheeks as she hiccuped. He ran up the stairs and reached his arms out for her. She gripped on and he pulled her down. She clung to him and buried her face against his shoulder as he glared at his brother.
Marcus cackled. He wheezed as he covered his mouth and took a deep breath to calm himself, “you always bitch about the fact she carries you. So I fixed it. For the next 24 hours, she’s lighter than air. Carry her to your heart’s content!”
Snatcher growled and sighed heavily. “Sorry Eclipse.” he apologized as she hung onto him, lest she float off.
“Make sure to grip her tightly!” Marcus sneered, “or she’ll float higher and higher and when that potion wears off----” he clapped his hands together with a loud clap.
Snatcher and Eclipse paled and she tightened her grip.
“D-don’t let me go!” she pleaded.
“I won’t.” he nuzzled her face, “I’m right here, holding on.”
She nuzzled back as she sniffled. He shifted his grip, grateful she was so light he could hold her with one arm. He wiped the red tears.
“You’re crying horizon again.” he chuckled.
“I-I hit the ceiling! Wolves don’t fly! I like being grounded! I’m weak to air!” she hiccuped. He gave a soft smile as he moved her to his shoulder. She frowned and leaned her head down on top of his. She closed her eyes. “Your hair smells like berries?” she blinked, sitting up.
“The little ones wanted to try something.” he lamented, “I was complaining about the dish soap---”
“It’s better for your scales than the body wash.” she pointed out.
“I know, I just dislike the smell. So they tried using berries to wash my hair. I thought I got it out.” he sighed. He frowned, “how are we going to get you home? Your car is roofless.”
“Tie her to you. You drive now don’t you?” Marcus suggested. He grinned as Eclipse glared at him with malice. She snarled.
“Tie her…” Snatcher sighed, “I can’t leash her. Do you get the implications there?”
“I’ll put my seat belt on.” She sighed and shifted on his shoulder. “C-Can you move your hand…”
“Hah?” he blinked before he realized his hand was far up on her thigh. He moved it closer to her knee ashamed, “Sorry…” His face went warm.
“It’s fine…” she grumbled as she sighed. “Marcus I hate you SO much.”
“I bet.” he flew up in her face, spooking her. She shifted and Snatcher lost his grip. He reached and grabbed her waist pulling her back down. She whined as she gripped his shirt and buried her face against him. He wrapped his arms around her tightly and sighed looking at his brother.
“Marcus come here.” he ordered. The ghost flew over curious and yelped when his brother flicked his forehead. He whined as globs of tears formed and he rubbed the spot.
“Ghost or not you KNOW that hurts.” Snatcher snickered, “I love memory of pain.”
Marcus sniffled as his tears dripped, “I’m trying to help you, you jerk!”
“I’ve told you, I don’t need help!” Snatcher snapped angrily. He sighed as he took Eclipse’s hands to help lead her downstairs. Her legs floating up as he did. She whined as she wrapped her arms around his neck and sighed. He covered her hands with his as he went to get their bags.
“Leaving already?” Marcus wiped his face, “You can stick around.”
“You literally made her float. I want to get her to her own home so she can have like. Twelve blankets on her in the house to stay grounded and Relax.” Snatcher scoffed. He held onto her tightly. Moving to grab her waist as she floated beside him.
“Spoilsport.” Marcus sighed as they left. He looked out the window as Snatcher buckled Eclipse into the jeep.
-------
“Careful… careful….” Snatcher held her firmly as she unbuckled the belt and he pulled her out the car door. He moved to grab her waist again and pulled her inside the house before he let her go. She floated to the ceiling with a heavy sigh.
He frowned and looked around.
“We have a high ceiling. I can sit in here,” he stated after he thought about it for a bit.
“Huh?” she asked as she pushed along the lights to move around. She tilted her head. She put her hand to her mouth watching as the man began to move all of the furniture to the very edges.
“Where’s the tape measurer?” he asked looking up with a big grin.
“Basket on top of the fridge like normal?” she shifted to look at him as he measured out a distance and huffed pleased. “What are you doing?” she asked with wide eyes.
He grinned, “I figure, if you’re up there, I’ll join you, in my own way.” he laughed, “so you aren’t so alone.”
She turned red, “Y-You don’t have to. I can just… hang out?” she shrugged with a sigh, “throw me my phone or something.”
“If you drop it then what?” he raised a brow, “If I’m larger as a leviathan you can rest a bit easier right? You said being near me helps because of the charm of attraction.”
She turned red, “w-well yes but… how are you going to stay a leviathan if you transform here without breaking things?”
“I’ll fill the tub.” he explained, “If I measured this right, I can lean up against the back wall and my tail should reach, I can also get some wet towels and put them on so I stay larger. There’s ways to keep me a noodle. I work hard to not do it after all!”
She smiled, “don’t hurt yourself on my behalf.”
“Well Marcus did this on mine, so I’m taking responsibility.” he chuckled as he went to get set up.
Eclipse sighed as she floated around near the ceiling. She rotated so she was facing the floor with a sigh, her hair floating around her as if underwater.
“Why would such a potion even exist.” she pouted as she crossed her arms. She chuckled hearing the bathtub turning on. She put her fingers to her chin in thought.
“How long are you?” she asked as she floated around. She flailed her arms, “it’d be easier if I could move easier!!!!” she whined.
“I think you said I’m 33 feet head to tail. But I think I may be longer? I noticed when I wrapped the sub the other day I could get a bit more around it.” he had a towel around his hips and a few more in his arms. He moved to the sink and set them in it and ran the water until they were soaked and turned it off. Carefully he filled a pitcher and moved to the hall. He gulped, “This may not be my smartest idea--- but worth a try right?”
“Please don’t break my house!” she laughed as he moved to lay down and dumped the pitcher on his head. She covered her eyes as she heard him grimace and the snapping of her bones. She peeked as his flesh seemed to melt and reform over his growing body, the scales slowly showing in splotches as he did his best to not lash in his pain. She gasped when he shifted to sit up and looked at her with his leviathan grin.
Carefully he moved to sit and used a claw to pull her to his face. She laughed as she nuzzled against him as he shut his eyes with a sigh.
Eclipse moved closer and pulled herself down best she could. She tried to sit on his shoulder as he chuckled. He used a claw over her lap to help her stay. She leaned against his cheek with a content sigh. She looked at him as he rested his eyes and turned, giving his cheek a small kiss.
She watched as he turned yellow and laughed. He snickered.
“That’s playing dirty.” he teased, “I can’t return the favor.”
“You don’t want to.” she leaned against him as she held to his claw, “thank you, Snatcher. Ah… can you pull me down? I want my ipad. I need to look something up!”
“Sure.” he chuckled and shifted his hand as she hung on and guided her down. He grunted and moved the end of his tail to give her a support so she’d stay low enough to get her bag. When she had it he let go and she floated back up, the weight of the bag pulling her down slightly. She moved to sit on his shoulder once more, her bag keeping her there without him holding her. She leaned against him as she scrolled around and sighed as she looked at the numbers. She chewed her lip and looked at him and smiled.
“If I did a few solo jobs coming up-- would you be opposed? Can you watch Hattie?” she asked quietly.
“Ah? I can… I thought you were set for the month?” he asked confused. He shifted to remove one of the towels and set the soaking material over his tail with a shudder, “Colldddd…”
“Why didn’t you use hot water?” she raised a brow. He stared at the towel as he turned yellow. She burst out laughing, “Did you make the tub cold too??”
He scowled, “L-Look i wasn’t thinking about that!”
She laughed as she flipped through the listings of above ground pools. “Hrm. Would kaya be willing to use magic for me…” she mused.
“What do you need her magic for?” he raised a brow as he shuddered at the cold water.
“Secret~!” she sang as she sat on his shoulder. She hummed, “Just. Planning things.” she grinned, “your anniversary with Hattie is in July isn’t it? Or June?”
She put her fingers to her lips.
“Um…” he paused, “I think I met her on the very tail end of June. Ask Conrad, he’d know exactly since he knew I touched his boat!” he cackled loudly.
“I can’t get over Dad knew this whole time and didn’t say anything.” she puffed her cheek up, “but it does make me feel better.”
“Same. it’s. Just nice to know he treated me as a human even knowing I wasn’t.” Snatcher chuckled as he leaned against the wall with a huff. He looked at the ceiling.
“Dad’s good like that.” She hummed, “Did you know the bite mark on DJ’s arm isn’t from me as a puppy, but Conrad?” she snickered.
He blinked, “no shit?”
“Yup. They met during a bar fight. Conrad BIT him in his drunken state.” she snickered and added the item to her cart with a big grin, “there. Ordered.” she giggled.
“What are you doing?”
“It’s a secrettttt~!” she sang and leaned against his cheek. He felt his face grow warm as she did and he grabbed another towel. He shuddered.
“Coldddddd.” he mumbled as she laughed again.
