I realise you're HE, but any thoughts on how high school level education should be run/changed/etc? I'd love to know your views!
Oh sure, plenty, but they're not particularly informed lol
Well; Wales is actually massively and fundamentally changing secondary education atm, but we won't be getting students from it until the year after next, I think, so no real comment on effectiveness yet - but it's very interesting. They're getting rid of isolated subjects in favour of broad umbrella areas, as I understand it? So there's now Science and Technology (Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Computing, and all the various DT subjects like Woodwork, Electronics, Cookery, etc), Maths and Numeracy, Humanities (History, Geography, Ethics, Religion), Languages Literacy and Communication, and Health and Wellbeing (actually maybe Cookery comes under this one now? Dunno.) And there's a sixth to do with arts but I can't remember what it's called. But it includes Art, Drama, Media Studies, etc.
And then the idea is that a class will learn about a given topic at a time (I don't know for how long, so let's say six weeks), and this will be taught in each of those six umbrellas but via their own methods. So like... I dunno, let's say the Tudors:
That's fairly straightforward for Humanities, but in addition to giving you the historical facts you'd also explore historic trade routes and natural resources of the time and how they related to the politics (geography), the religious make up of the country and how THAT related to the politics (religion), etc.
Maths and Numeracy might explore how to use statistics to analyse Tudor era population or trade data.
Science and Tech could look at disease outbreaks and virology, or technological advancements and how they worked and get students to build one, or get students to construct a Tudor-era town using computer software
Languages can study plays from the era (Shakespeare), look at linguistic development, or use historical events as talking points to practice using vocab in conversations
Health and Wellbeing can explore stressors and challenges of the average Medieval peasant and how they overcame them, or play some popular Tudor sport or game, or make food to Tudor recipes, etc
The Arts one (god I cannot remember the name) can look at art history of the period, fashions, perform plays, etc
So everyone is still teaching the skills and knowledge of their subject areas, they're just united by one big case study. It apparently allows for far more integrated teaching, too, where two previously discrete subjects can join forces on a project.
All of which seems pretty good, on the whole, but also rife with issues if everyone isn't careful, so we'll see how it shakes out over the next few years.
From my own experiences of school though. Jesus. Something definitely needed to happen, fuck me.
What I should have learned in Textiles:
How to use a sewing machine
How to sew by hand to mend a tear
How to darn a hole
How to hem, dart, take in, and let out clothes
How to sew from a pattern
What I actually learned in Textiles:
How to use a sewing machine on its most basic setting
How to phone in creating a hand puppet out of felt because gluing was easier than sewing
How to badly sew an extremely makeshift and shit bag out of scrap fabric that you in no way want to then use
How to lose all interest in Textiles because it was useless and uninteresting
Like that is a VITAL skillset-imparting subject, and they fucked it, lads, they completely fucked it. Why did they never set us the task of buying a cheap shirt from a charity shop that we then amended in class? That would have been so useful.
Games and PE! Fucking hell! Here's what I should have learned:
How to stretch my body safely to target specific muscle groups, and in particular, how to cultivate a daily stretching routine I enjoyed and wanted to do
How to find a physical activity active enough to get me out of breath that I genuinely enjoyed, so that I wanted to continue it, e.g. salsa dancing or rope climbing or ice skating or hill climbing or assault courses or fucking anything at all
How to build my body up to doing particular activities safely and sustainably
How to find a physical activity to do on wet, cold, rainy days that would still be fun and I would still enjoy
Here's what I actually learned:
Physical activity is always uncomfortable and miserable and sometimes even painful
If you aren't enjoying running around in the wind and rain instead of the indoor gym The Problem Is You. Start Enjoying It.
Wanting to stay warm and dry and comfortable is a punishable choice.
You are only permitted to do physical activity in clothes that make you feel profoundly exposed and uncomfortable (a gym skirt and gym knickers in my school. Cycling shorts got you detention. Don't get me started on jogging bottoms.) Again, if you do not enjoy this, The Problem Is You. Start Enjoying It.
There are only three activity options. If you don't enjoy any of them, physical activity is not for you.
You should be able to Just Do physical exercise, without any training to build you up to it. If you can't and it hurts, this is because you're Bad At PE.
You will only be shown Once
Physical activity is only ever a team sport that you aren't good enough to be willingly picked for
LIKE WHAT THE FUCK
And you know what, LET'S round off with Food Technology/Cookery. Because I remember the things I was asked to make in FT. As a little baby Year 7, I still vividly remember two of the things we made.
Angel Delight. Easy, you might say! A simple treat, you might think! Easing the children into food prep, I hear you cry! But no, because the theme of the year was healthy eating, and so we were to add fruit to our Angel Delight. Any flavour Angel Delight, any fruit. Off you go. I don't know if any of you have encountered fruit, Tumblrs, but it famously has faintly acidic juice. This will prevent the Angel Delight from setting within the one hour lesson, no matter how well you mixed the pudding, or how quickly you got it into the fridge. It will result in soggy gross lumps of oxidising fruit in sloppy liquid pudding. Lesson learned: fruit makes food worse.
Cake. Easyish, you might say! A little harder than the Angel Delight but good training, you might think! A fairly straightforward process with a child-friendly food at the end, I hear you cry! But no, because the theme of the year was still healthy eating, so the teachers made it into an experiment; make four small cakes. One with sugar, one with sweetener, one with apple, and one with carrot. Then taste them and rank them in order. Off you go. I don't know if any of you have ever tried eating sugarless carrot cake, Tumblrs, but I have, and I can tell you categorically that it really puts the "Did you know" into the phrase "Did you know that fructose and sucrose are not actually equivalents of each other in a culinary setting?" It was rancid. It was disgusting. It was vile. It made me hate carrot cake for the next 12 years, in case my mouth had to go through that ordeal again. I'm still highly suspicious of the stuff even now. To (I assume) the surprise of fuck-damned no one, we unanimously put them in the order of sugar, sweetener, apple, carrot. Lesson learned: FRUIT MAKES FOOD WORSE AND CARROTS ARE ACTIVELY DISGUSTING
What possessed them?! No idea. Fucking hell.
Anyway this is getting long and I am still ill-informed. Peace out.

Updated Workouts 🎀
I have been out of the gym for so long. My schedule last semester did not allow it, but when I leave to Colorado in June, I'll be staying somewhere that has its own little gym, and next semester I'll have more access to the university gym as well. I've been doing at home workouts lately! Here's how I structure my workouts throughout the week, and some extra info about my current fitness!
🩷 Monday
Pilates Legs Youtube Workout(s)
🩷 Tuesday
Pilates Abs YouTube Workout(s)
🩷 Wednesday
Morning Yoga YouTube Workout
Pilates Legs/Pilates Glutes YouTube Workout
🩷 Thursday
Full Body Pilates YouTube Workout
🩷 Friday
Full Body Pilates YouTube Workout
🩷 Saturday
Morning Pilates YouTube Workout OR
Morning Yoga YouTube Workout
🩷 Sunday
Wake Up Yoga YouTube Workout
Yoga For Flexibility Workout
So, as you can see, I currently follow YouTube pilates workouts. I will make a list of my favorite workout youtbers on my main blog soon! I prefer low impact workouts at the moment but will switch it up a bit once I am in Colorado.
💕 Some extra stuff for my fitness:
I try to walk 5k to 10k steps a day, whether that be going outside or doing a walking workout in my bedroom
I do all of my workouts in the morning almost right after i get up in the morning. It eliminates obstacles and helps me do something active during the day
I am going to add more stretching into my routine, especially for my legs. I have pretty stiff muscles, and as someone who'd love to be able to do the spilts, I need to start stretching.
I have a foam roller, but it isn't one of the ones with the bumps on it that really helps the muscles, and I'm going to buy one as soon as possible.
I also am going to start using my massage gun on my legs because I've been so sore and again, stiff, and I think it'll be so useful to just use it on my legs at night. It might even help me sleep better.
Sleep!! I have been sleeping 6 to 8 hours a night consistently, and it's so nice. I feel like I can function so much better, and on the days I get closer to 7 hours of sleep, I feel so good when I wake up and can really get to my morning workouts.
I've switched up my diet a bit and eat healthier (in a sustainable way), and it's also helped me with my fitness too! it really makes a difference with what you put in your body! Food is fuel and food is great!
Always open to fitness and health related questions! Please don't forget I am 3 years into my nutrition and dietetics degree, as well as minoring in psyc and exercise science (also have a 2nd major in finance, but that's irrelevant to health). I also research health and fitness topics for fun. I'm not saying I'm the most credible whatsoever, but I do have some idea of what I'm talking about and am always open to questions or even advice you could give me!

Things You Should Prioritize In Your Resting Season
Tumblr media
Heyyy babes<3 I'm surprised I never made this blog post I was looking back at my resting season post that a lot of you love and realized I never listed activities that could optimize your resting season so here It is<3.
♡ Journaling. My favorite form of journaling that I talked about in ‘Building A Productive Routine And Being Consistent’  is gratitude journaling I always start my day with a gratitude prompt. You can do regular journaling as well. Journaling is a great way to let out your emotions. I prefer the pen and paper method I connect more than when I use my laptop.
♡ Mood Tracker. The app I use is Daily Bean the app allows you to track your emotions every day and shows you a diagram of your emotions for the overall week, month, and year. It does have a journaling feature as well I don't use it but if you prefer digital journaling I recommend it.
♡ Reading. Start reading self-help books I have listed many recommendations in ‘Reinvent Yourself In 2024’. Reading can help give you a lot of insight and allow you to learn new things. There are so many books on so many different topics find books that relate to the issues you face, read, and implement the teachings into your life. When I'm not reading self-help books I love romance books so much I'm forever a lover girl lol.
♡ Listen to podcasts. Start listening to podcasts that you relate to and actually find interesting. there are so many great podcasts out there. The podcasts I listen to usually focus on self-improvement, femininity, fitness, and mental/physical health. My favorite podcaster is Leo Skepi he is so real I don’t agree with all of his takes but I agree with most of them. I also love Hailey Gamba her YouTube channel is definitely a must-watch.
♡ Hobbies. Write out a list of hobbies that interest you and give them a try. Give yourself time to see what works and what doesn’t. I've learned so much about myself through hobbies and most of the hobbies I have are related to my goals and of course, some are not. Hobbies are a great way to get yourself out there and make new friends as well.
♡ Solo dates. Take yourself out once a month. It is super important to date yourself babes<3. Spending alone time with yourself is beneficial. You can do at-home solo dates as well. Here is a list of solo date ideas.
♡ Eating Cleaner. You are what you eat is so real! I'm not gonna get too deep into the science behind your gut health and brain health and how they are connected. But watch the two videos created by Andrew Huberman ‘Food And Emotions’ ‘Sugar And Your Brain’. Eating cleaner is good for your overall health. You can still eat out and processed food but an 80/20 lifestyle is key babes!
♡ Sleeping Routine. You can tell by now I love Andrew Huberman (Daddy Huberman) because again I'm going to drop some gems from him. He states that you should try and get a consistent amount of hours of sleep rather than trying to force yourself to get 8 hours of sleep every night. Try creating a sleep schedule my days start at 5:30am so I usually fall asleep at the earliest 8pm or the latest 11pm because I know getting 6-8 hours of sleep is best for me and keeps me going throughout the day. Everyone's body is different do what works for you. Video Link
You don’t have to do the things that I have listed above if they do not fit into what you require from your resting season. I hope you loved this post babes check for this week’s affirmations<3.

Psychology of... Willow?
When I set out to do this series, I had a few episodes noted down where I would use the analysis of that post to look into one specific character and their psychology, writing, and the cinematography surrounding that character. For example, I still plan on my analysis of Labyrinth Runners delving into Gus.
But one such episode that I had noted down was Understanding Willow. I planned on examining its eponym's struggle with bullying and how that impacted her mental health.
But this episode is more complicated than that, and I'm not entirely sure that it's about Willow.
Let me explain.
SPOILERS AHEAD
Tumblr media
One criticism of The Owl House is that it starts slow, and while my contrarian streak leads me to disagree with that, it is difficult to argue that the series doesn't abruptly gain speed with Understanding Willow. The animation, visual metaphors and storytelling, and the direction all skyrocket.
Tumblr media
This is the episode where the series brings its complex storytelling to the forefront, and a key example of this is that this is about Amity as much as it is about Willow.
The premise of this episode is memory. What if memories are tangible? Maybe they are tampered with, or damaged? What if memories could be seen by others? What power does a picture have? Put a pin in this.
Tumblr media
In February 2022, Steam Forge games released the Dark Souls Role Playing Game, and bear with me, I promise this is relevant. It is based off the Dark Souls series and the Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition system. But I would argue that it pales in comparison to Emanuele Galletto's Dark Souls Unofficial Role-Playing Game.
Galletto's system is a fascinating take on the series it is based on, and is surprisingly balanced, but I'm not here to give a review. Instead, I would like to focus on the rules for humanity and their implications.
Tumblr media
Essentially, because death and rebirth are common in the game, in order for stakes to mean anything, Galletto implemented an idea called Sparks of Memory. When a character dies, they lose their memories. These can be sacrificed in exchange for abilities upon level ups, or they can be established through the game and through the adventure itself.
"When you die, you lose a Spark of Memory: a piece of your being will be forever lost, and you will be a step closer to losing yourself... With time, you might become an entirely different person, driven by a strong will but completely changed by the trauma of death and reshaped by your journey throughout this accursed land."
This system is called Humanity, the passage above is taken from a page literally entitled "Loss of Humanity", which means something, right? But weirdly enough, this is a system that forces optimism. Pessimism and fear that the world will only get worse are not particularly good motivators. Anger and grief at specific moments are all well and good, but at the end of the day, when they leave your character, why are you still moving forwards? Hope.
Tumblr media
When I was playing this, I genuinely watched the power of friendship develop into a major force in the campaign, as the characters reassured each other and formed these memories together. If memories are who you are, then people who remember you are equally important in keeping you in check. These were people who developed into relentlessly determined heroes, with a grim focus on making the world a better place, together.
I have never really cared about the science fiction debate of what constitutes humanity, but this is a genuinely interesting take on the question that I highly recommend experiencing yourself.
Tumblr media
But why have I just spent almost 400 words talking about Dark Souls? Because Understanding Willow displays some of the same ideas. Memories are what makes Willow who she is, and when those get damaged, she runs into problems. What is fascinating, is how much of Willow's memories were formed in relation to others. Her fathers (hey, gay male representation in cartoons, don't see that often) feature often, but so does Amity.
Tumblr media
Bullying is one of those almost universal experiences in life. If you haven't been a subject of it, you have probably witnessed it.
Studies have been trying to ascertain the impact of bullying on mental health since at least the 1970s, with the oldest source I could find being Dan Olweus' 1973 Victims and Bullies: Research on School Bullying, although that was written in Swedish, and I haven't been able to find a copy of that original book. It was allegedly published in English in 1978, retitled Aggression in the Schools: Bullies and Whipping Boys, of which the internet archive has a copy that is available.
Tumblr media
Research into the subject has continued into the modern day and has been updated to modern scientific and psychological practices. For example, this study was published in 2021, and concluded that: "Reports of mental health problems were four times higher among boys who had been bullied compared to those not bullied. The corresponding figure for girls was 2.4 times higher."
What this means is that it is important to understand Willow in the context of Amity, and it is important for Amity to witness that effect directly in order to change herself.
Tumblr media
Sorry, wrong image. How did that get in here? That's from a game called Melatonin, by the way.
Tumblr media
There we go.
So, memories in the Owl House are tangible. They can be changed, or erased artificially, and "artificially" is the key word here, because memories can change naturally. A rare few people are infallible in that regard. But Willow is making an attempt to forget her life with Amity, she turns it away and avoids talking about it, rather than confront her past.
"That's my motto after all. Out of sight, out of mind."
Tumblr media
It's notable that the illusion teacher governs the memory system, meaning that memories in this series use the same rules as the rest of illusion magic. I have another post going into detail about that, but TLDR: Illusions have an impact on real life in the same way that anything else can. They aren't representations of lies, but consequences. You can change yourself to match your true self, for example, but you need to understand what that means for everyone and everything around you.
So, memories associated with consequences? What a strange correlation, I wonder if that means anything.
Tumblr media
You would think that the tragic memory would be of the bullying, right? A single moment crystalised into something awful, but what Willow wants to escape from, and what scares Amity the most, is the simple fact that these two used to be friends. It becomes a betrayal.
Tumblr media
I think that the Inner Willow was a master stroke of the writing, because it gives agency to Willow's subconscious. It says the quiet things out loud in a way that Amity cannot get away from, and it is a creature that she will have to confront. It acts as a personification of consequence.
Tumblr media
"Love, sadness, fear. I used to be a being made of all emotions. But ever since you set Willow's mind on fire, all I've been able to feel is anger."
There is a neat little double meaning here. Amity literally started burning Willow's memories of happiness accidentally, but she also did it figuratively a long time ago. The betrayal poisoned every other memory that Willow had of her and turned it sour, their relationship was shattered, perhaps permanently, and Willow suffered.
Tumblr media
This actually links back to Galletto's Dark Souls. In the same passage where the mechanics are explained, Galletto gives this explanation:
"A Spark of Memory is something that keeps you human: funny thing is, they are rarely happy memories. Turns out pain, anger and regret take deep roots into our hearts, and the strength of these emotions can keep us going even when our body is broken"
Galletto isn't entirely false here, pain and suffering are powerful motivating forces, they can keep propelling you forwards. The Inner Willow would certainly agree with that sentiment. But I don't, and I don't think The Owl House as a whole, or even this episode, do either.
Tumblr media
I mentioned above that gameplay displayed a contradicting view on powerful emotions, but Understanding Willow also argues this point. Anger is strong, don't get me wrong, but love can win out, and it does so through empathy. The thing that saves Willow in the end is Amity's declaration of understanding and desire to do better.
The strongest emotion that you will ever feel, is hope. Hope for a better tomorrow, hope for a better today, or hope that a relationship that you had thought doomed might be reconcilable. Hope will win out. Light, do not falter.
But, I said that this was an episode about Amity as well, and if you have seen this episode, you know exactly which scene I am going to talk about.
Tumblr media
This scene pulls zero punches. From the fading away memories of young Amity and Willow to reveal their cynical, older selves; to the dialogue and the acting; to the construction of Amity's conversation with her parents. This is phenomenal.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is the memory that started it all, this is the betrayal. Whoever did the expressions on the memories needs a prize because that is half of why this works so well. The other half of why this works is the lines, both what is said, and how it is delivered.
"I just... I just can't get the spells right" "Well, yes. That... that is why. Because you're a weakling."
I keep saying this is a betrayal because it is. Friendships are built on trust and if that gets broken, good luck getting it back.
"Then you let your new friends pick on her, all because you thought she was weak."
It's important to understand what the Inner Willow is saying here. She's not complaining about the belittling or ambition, she's holding Amity accountable for her inaction. When Amity stood by and did nothing while Bosha bullied Willow, she was complicit in that bullying. Just because she didn't say anything doesn't make it any less her fault, for encouraging it by laughing, or by not standing up for Willow when she needed it.
Actions have consequences, but so does the choice to do nothing.
Tumblr media
The camera pans back into the door and gives just a smidge of context, and there are some bold visual choices going on here.
First up, the limiting of the space makes amity feel boxed in and trapped, and it evokes a feeling of looking through a keyhole. You only see a fraction of what is going on, but it is enough to know what is happening.
Second, Amity is the only thing in colour here, meaning that she is still the centre point of the frame, despite being tiny.
Third, the Blights aren't shown in detail, only their shadows. It is their legacy that they leave behind on display, the shadows that they cast. But its also not the point. Showing the visual designs of the Blights would take away impact from what they are saying. This is a simple shot so that you understand exactly what is happening.
Tumblr media
"Good children don't squabble, dear. Sever your ties with Willow, and if you don't..." "Then we will."
Once again there is some reframing of Willow's life. Where Amity's betrayal tainted the memories of their times together, the Blights' words reframe everything after that point as out of her control.
"We'll make sure she never gets admitted into Hexide."
Amity is trying to protect Willow, and the actions that cause this episode's conflict become reframed as well. Amity wants Willow to forget her but doesn't comprehend how much of Willow's life was centred around her. She doesn't yet understand the consequences of her actions.
Tumblr media
Final Thoughts
Willow and Amity are fascinating characters, and the depth that this episode brings to their actions and interactions sheds light on the series up to this point, and the series going forwards.
Willow has such a low level of self esteem that she is willing to hurt herself to support others, and this episode goes into why. But to that, I offer some advice. When I was researching this, I came across a motivational image by yogaspace.com. I had to search for the message's original source, which ended up being Penny Reid's Beard In Mind, but it reads as follows:
"Don’t set yourself on fire trying to keep others warm.”
Take from that what you will.
Next week, I will be looking at Enchanting Grom Fright, so stick around if you want my thoughts on that.

18+ content - for mature audiences only!
THESE ARE AGED-UP NINJA TURTLES. THEY ARE GROWN ASSED ADULTS. DON'T BE A <FILL IN THE BLANK>. 😘
Or at least that’s what I tell everyone.
My name is Liz, and I work for OSHA.
You see, after I graduated with an Associate’s in Science for Occupational and Environmental Safety Management, I was offered a job with FED OSHA - Occupational Safety and Health Administration through the federal government - The job of my dreams. So, you can imagine how ecstatic I was when they hired me.
Everything was great for the first few months - until they brought me in on a top-secret project in New York. They told me they needed a Safety Technician who specialized in humanitarian issues and loved animals. Apparently, they thought I was their girl.
Weird, right?
So, they brought me to this gargantuan underground facility, where I was given my own office with all the latest and greatest technology and safety gadgets - even ones that hadn’t been put on the market yet; It was a fucking dream. One of those ‘too good to be true’ scenarios.
And indeed. It was too good to be true.
They moved me to Manhattan to be closer to the facility because it was necessary for me to be on call 24/7 - which was totally fine because it was just me.
And because they paid me WELL.
So, after a few months of puttering around, fixing compliance issues, they decided it was time for me to start in my REAL job position.
“Ms. Bueno, we will be bringing you in today, to help with the major issue we hired you for, initially.”
“Great! I can’t wait to get to work!” I said to the director.
“Good. I’ll be waiting in Section K22. Please meet me down there.”
“The high-security clearance sector?” I asked, a bit confused.
“Yes,” he replied.
I nodded, and he went to walk away but stopped at my office door. “ Oh, and Ms. Bueno?”
“Yes, sir?” I asked.
“Do make sure you use the restroom before you head down. Some of the things you see may be… Shocking,” he told me.
“Certainly, sir,” I said as he turned and left completely this time.
What the actual fuck are they doing down there.
I met the director at the entrance to K22 - which turned out to be more secure than Fort Knox - and I was handed a white lab coat and some safety glasses by his security detail, which consisted of like seven huge dudes.
“Why are you guys all wearing bullet-proof vests, and I get this?” I asked, shaking the flimsy lab coat between my index finger and thumb.
“They seem to have a soft spot for females,” said ‘Bruce’, according to his name tag.
“Well, Bruce,” I said, unimpressed by his explanation, “OSHA clearly states that whatever PPE or other safety-related articles are donned by personnel going into an area of safety concern, those same articles need to be worn by EVERYONE that enters. Not just the men,” I stated, giving him my best OSHA inspector face.
“She’s not wrong. Give her a vest for under her lab coat,” said the director.
That’s right. Fuck you, Bruce.
After all of my safety gear was on, they walked me down a long, brightly lit corridor that led to another door. This door could only be opened using iris recognition.
“Ms. Bueno, what you are about to see, is one of the World’s most highly classified projects. If you tell anyone about this, you and said people will be eliminated.”
“Eliminated?” I choked out through a slightly embarrassing squeak.
“Eliminated. As in loss of life. Death. And you will be expunged - completely erased so no one knows you ever existed. Do you agree to these terms?”
Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. What in the HELL have I gotten myself into…
“Uh, yes?” I said, making my response sound more like a question.
“I’m not convinced, Ms. Bueno. I need to be very convinced before we go through these doors. It’s a matter of national security.”
“100%, sir. I am absolutely, 100% positive. I swear to these terms, sir,” I told him, feeling my backbone reappear.
“Good. Samuel, we’re ready for entry,” he told the biggest security staff member.
Samuel cocked his gun and stood in front of the door, in the ready position, pointing the gun at it like the zombie apocalypse was about to ensue.
I swallowed nervously.
That’s a fucking lie. I’m about to shit my pants. No wonder he had me go to the bathroom before I came down here.
Anyway, as I’m wishing I had a diaper on, the director leaned in and initiated the iris recognition scan, successfully opening the sealed door. The security detail filed in first.
I followed the director into what looked like a giant laboratory. As we got ready to turn the corner, his security detail fanned out in front of us.
“LET US OUT!” Boomed a deep, raspy voice.
*Adrenaline rush*
“Just sit down. It’s not gonna help,” said another.
“HE NEEDS HELP!” yelled the first voice.
“I know, but they aren’t gonna let us out. And honestly, I don’t even know who could, or would, help him.” came a third voice.
I saw the director from the corner of my eye, turn and look at me as I stood stock-still, looking forward, and waiting to be told that I could proceed.
He didn’t say anything, so I turned and looked at him, my eyes the size of Jupiter. All pupil.
He nodded once, and I stepped around the corner.
May God strike me dead where I stand, if I’m lying.
There was a giant reinforced cage, resembling jail cells, holding the fucking Ninja Turtles in them.
I shit you not.
Albeit they were a bit older than we’d seen them in movies, and they looked slightly different, but they were definitely THE Ninja Turtles.
I gathered myself and turned to the director. “What is my job here, sir?” I asked him, completely composed with a straight face.
“Health and Safety,” He said, sadness flashing across his eyes for less than a moment. “We will leave you and let you do what you need to do,” he said, leaving me alone with the caged turtle-men.
Once I was sure I was alone, I looked around for security cameras. When I'd decided there were none - probably for top-secret and national security reasons - I took off the stupid lab coat, safety glasses, and bulletproof vest and ran to the cages.
“Oh my god, what happened to him?” I asked, squatting down and reaching an arm through the bars to check Donatello’s pulse.
The other three turned and looked at me, confused.
“Don’t touch him,” Growled the red-banded bara.
“Who are you?” asked Leonardo, putting a hand up in a placating manner, in an attempt to get his brother to back down.
“I’m the lead Health and Safety technician for this project. They hired me six months ago for this project, but this is the first time hearing about all of this,” I said, slightly alarmed by the faintness of Donnie's heartbeat. “Now, please tell me, what happened to him,” I said to Leo, looking him directly in the eyes.
“We don’t know. They sedated him. Heavily. And took him out of the lab. He was gone for two days. He’s been like this since they brought him back,” said Leo, now kneeling in the corner of the cell so he was next to me and his unconscious brother.
“And how long ago did they bring him back?” I asked.
“Maybe three to four hours ago? It’s hard to tell. We’ve been stuck in here forever.”
“Oh God… Is he allergic to anything? Does he have any health issues?” I prodded, my eyebrows furrowed, and my face twisted in clear heartache.
“Uh, no, no. None of us do. I mean, unless you count the fact that we’re overgrown, mutated, humanoid turtles…” He said.
I couldn't help but smirk at him, “No. That’s actually quite normal. This is New York, after all.”
Mikey huffed a stifled giggle from beside me, now standing the closest he could get to us, in his own cage.
As I started to stand up, Leo stuck his hand through the bars and grabbed my wrist. I looked into his gorgeous blue eyes, which were filled with sorrow and hope. “Thank you,” he whispered.
“Don’t thank me yet. I haven’t even done anything,” I told him softly.
“Yea, but you’re going to - I can see the genuine worry on your face,” he said, my face heating up as he pulled me closer to his cage to get a better look at me.
“I need to go look through the files over by the entry door,” I whispered to him. “I need to see what they were doing to him, so I can help him.”
Leo released my wrist and wiped a tear from my cheek. I didn’t even realize I was crying.
“I’m Leo,” he introduced himself.
“I know who you guys are. You’re kinda my childhood heroes,” I confessed, looking down.
“Thank God,” huffed Raphael, visibly relaxing.
“You’re actually gonna help us then?” asked Mikey from behind me.
I turned and looked at the orange-clad turtle, “Yes, of course.”
I turned back to Leo and leaned in closer to him so he could hear me whisper...
“I don’t know how, but I promise, I’ll help you get out of here.”

Nationality: Italian (English is not my first language so I might make some grammatical errors)
🏳️‍🌈: I'm a sapphic and demisexual/demiromantic girl (I use she/her pronouns)
MBTI: ENTJ (Don't stereotype me. I'm just really into doing things right and I like to have a plan for everything. I always try to find a solution to people's problems)
Something about me: I'm autistic 🪐 and I'm very extroverted, I like to socialize and meet new people. So if we have any interests in common, feel free to write to me🌌 (Read the continuation to find out more about me and what I post, it's important. Thank you)

•League of Legends (I play on the European server)
•Wildrift
•Valorant (I don't play it that much because I'm not very good)

🍿My favorite TV series are:
•Shameless
•Love, Death & Robots

•Dreamcore
•Nostalgiacore
•History of cinema (especially animated films)
•Psychology (and all other branches of this science. I also love anthropology and sociology)

🪷Hobby:
•Cosplay (Especially cosplaying my comfort characters)
•Drawing (I haven't drawn seriously since 2020. I'm waiting for inspiration)
•Collecting dolls (I love Monster High, Ever After High, Rainbow High and L.O.L O.M.G. I also collect Funko pops and figures from other brands. I also have many books and comics -which I have to finish reading because there are too many-)🧸
•Roleplay (Doing roleplay with me means that I have already organized the whole plot. But I also listen to the other person's ideas)
•Find out about the topics that interest me (Most of the time they have to do with culture. I'm a very curious person and I love to inform myself)
💿What I post on Tumblr:
•Things about my fandoms (Mostly I repost cute icons and wallpapers. Sometimes I make some wallpapers. Maybe start writing some headcanons)
•Positivity (Especially mental health or pride posts about being a member of the LGBT community. Be yourself🌈Be unique)
•Random things (I don't know how to explain this category. I could write something like "I'm looking for people who like this song, does anyone remember this movie? etc" or I answer some questions. Sometimes I also reposted something related to when I feel down, but they are old things and I don't think of posting them again because I prefer to think about good things and find the positive side)
•Aesthetics (If I see some nice photo of a sunset or the sky, I immediately repost it because I feel like it. I also post a lot of things related to nostalgia because as I said before I like the "nostalgiacore" aesthetic. And I'm very nostalgic, they were beautiful times when the only worry was "which Winx character am I?")
•My posts are tagged "Dia's post"
🔞If you are a minor, do not interact. I'm a girl from 2002 so I have young adult maturity‼️ For adults (because I know we are not all the same and not everyone likes some things) I would like to point out some things that I could reblog: I might reblog paintings or sculptures with naked people BUT also drawings with people semi-naked or shown in a sexy way. The artists I refer to are: Fumetti Brutti by Josephine Yole Signorelli and EvviArt. They are the only ones I follow but it is to make you understand what type of art I like. I could reblog posts where sexual topics are written: from the classic "use protection when having s3x" or raise awareness about some topics related to this theme. I want people to be informed about some aspects of this topic (I'm not talking about p0rnographic things ) such as the importance of using protection and above all how important consent is. I don't reblog kink-related stuff or explicit porn because it's not a topic of interest to me. And I don't even have kink because s3x isn't a topic that interests me. It doesn't shock me to hear about NSFW things (it disgusts me if disturbing topics are included in this topic). Many of my interests (TV series or video games and things like that) involve adult themes.🔞
🧜‍♀️Comfort characters:
•Jinx (League of legends/Arcane. She is my main and for certain things I see myself in her)
•Seraphine (League of Legends. didn't like her at first but I love her gameplay. And I think she has the best skins -along with Jinx, of course-)
•Evelynn (League of Legends. She's a Goddess)
•Chloe Price (Life is strange. She made me understand that I like women too. I love this punk)
•Sunset Shimmer (Equestria Girls. She is one of the few ENTJs to be a positive character. I really like how her character has evolved)
•Reagan Ridley (Inside Job. We are very similar in certain things)
•Entrapta (She ra. I love this chaotic neutral autistic scientist princess. Again, I see myself in her)
•Kotori Minami (Love Live! When I was in middle school this was my favorite anime)
•Dia Kurosawa (Love Live! Sunshine. Love Live is an anime that accompanied me as I grew up. I'm very fond of it)
❕️I'm looking for young adult people like me (young adult means being over 18 and under 30). I have no problem with NSFW (I prefer artistic nudity) and I have no problem with swearing. I have a certain maturity so I want to interact with people like that.❕️
‼️ This is my safe space🗣 SO DO NOT INTERACT WITH ME IF YOU ARE: racist, homophobic, transphobic and against the LGBT community, do not interact if you are a pedophile and if you harm animals. Don't interact if you are against feminism (which I remind you, means gender equality), don't interact if you are people with ideas of hatred and discrimination. No ignorant people about mental health or what is happening in the world, because we are in 2024 and we need to have a minimum of culture. If you think abortion is murder, I would say you can also go elsewhere because I support women's rights and human rights in general. In general, don't interact if you are a person with bad ideas (that kind of bad ideas. Go away)‼️
🌟Talk to me if you are a normal person (and if you're nice and send funny memes. Or if you want to talk about some fandom in common or something. We can also play some video games together or talk about philosophical things like "what's the point of life?" or things like "do aliens exist?")🌟

THE CONTROVERSY OF SHIFTING
Everything is up to what you choose to believe.
"Reality is created by the mind. We can change our reality by changing our mind." - PLATO
Tumblr media
In no way I am trying to convince anyone shifting is real (unlike others) or change your opinion on it. I just want to make a post :).
There is much controversy surrounding reality shifting. The constant misinforming videos made by big YouTubers and posts all across different social media platforms. Reality shifting got its debut on TikTok back in late 2019 - early 2020 during the start of the pandemic. If you were on TikTok during that time you may know of the videos and creators that went viral and ultimately started what we now know as shifttok. Since then, it has been an extremely hot topic in various communities.
Before we get started, I personally believe in the phenomenon that is shifting, so I'll try to keep my bias out of this.
Now there's multiple reasons why reality shifting gets so much shit, let's go through them:
1." It's psychosis", "Your delusional.", "Your schizophrenic."
These are all valid statements and concerns. The world 'reality' in reality shifting sticks out the most, but I don't feel the intentions are pure when it's being thrown out by anti-shifters and people who don't believe in shifting. Now the definition of schizophrenia I've pasted is from the American Psychiatric Association website. "Schizophrenia is a chronic brain disorder that affects less than one percent of the U.S. population. When schizophrenia is active, symptoms can include delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech, trouble with thinking and lack of motivation."
This brain disorder affects less than one percent of the population in the United States. I probably won't get an accurate number off Google but the population in the United States is millions. So, less than 1% of people out of millions and unless you're a licensed psychiatrist with a degree, it's absolutely not okay for you to go diagnosing people with a disorder you know nothing about. Shifting shouldn't be labeled as any disorder/illness/condition. You should absolutely go get a diagnosis from a professional.
Now I 100% think we should be talking more about how shifting can affect one's mental health especially in a community full of impressionable minors and people who badly want to escape. Particularly when its bordering obsession and affecting your mental health in bad ways.
2. "It's not scientifically proven."
Give me an example of anything that has to do with consciousness that has been scientifically proven. When everything science related has always had to do what can be physically seen. Can you see consciousness? The most that can be done is observed behavior and even then, that's not really reliable. This is something you have to experience and come to your own conclusions about. Our minds are beyond powerful and unexplored.
No one knows how astral projection or OBE works. You're just given steps on how to do it, that worked for others and keep attempting until it happens. Shifting also can't be explained you have to experience it. Logic and reason seem to be the main focus when it comes to shifting but it can't be as there's no logical way to explain this. Similarly to how one can only describe the taste of something to someone who's never tasted it, but to really understand they'd need to taste it themselves.
3. "It's lucid dreaming."
That's actually a realistic possibility. There's something called reality checks within the lucid dreaming community. You do them in dreams to determine whether you're dreaming or not to become lucid. Therefore, if you think you're dreaming, you can do a reality check.
Shifting is not something that can only transpire while asleep. Countless people have shifted while awake. From my standpoint being able to experience this while awake lessens the odds it is dreaming.
Another thing I find interesting that is possibly linked to shifting. People who have gone to sleep and "dreamed" of a life where they got married, had kids, and lived for years. They wake up mourning said life which they presumed to be real but was just a dream maybe it was, or it wasn't🤷🏾‍♀️. They never thought it was all a dream until they woke up. That example could give you the evidence to further disbelieve in shifting or not. Either way it's an interesting take.
Also, some people still don't believe lucid dreaming is real.
I think antis/non-believers take the shifting part literally; you're not physically going anywhere (nobody's walking to Hogwarts lmao.)
People are able to get into/enter altered states of consciousness through meditation, hypnosis, dreaming, etc. Reality shifting is an altered state of consciousness.
We've been conditioned to believe certain things about reality and our role in it. Our consciousness has become accustomed to what our senses perceive every day, what you smell, touch, taste, feel, and see. So, by deciding to see, hear, taste, feel something else perhaps you could consciously end up somewhere else. This experience is all within and not external which is why many have a hard time believing it can be done and confuse it with being hallucinations, delusions or just dreaming.
I find it ludicrous how some people outright reject/criticize the idea of shifting but believe in other things like astral projection, witchcraft, or manifestation when you all face that same scrutiny from others(non-believers) about said practices. Not that I'm trying to convince anyone, but obviously you can be a bit open-minded, so I'm confused.
Now if you want to have a civilized discussion that's different but outright bashing with no knowledge is crazy.
Furthermore, if antis/non-believers could please stop referencing Hogwarts and Harry Potter (which was a big thing in 2020 when shifting first went viral) or generalizing shifting as a TiktTok/teenage girl thing🤦🏾‍♀️. When there is a huge community of people from all backgrounds and ages across all these platforms. Please get your opposing arguments or information from any other source besides TikTok or articles that were written in 2020.
At the end of the day, it's all up to what you choose to believe and your own experiences. So, if you don't believe in shifting then so be it. It takes nothing to be respectful.

Intro to U.S. Agriculture Book Recommendations
Requested by @languagesandpain
Healing Grounds by Liz Carlisle
If you're interested in agroecology this is a great place to start. It highlights a handful of Black, Latino, and Asian American farmers and their lives, history, and research. It's a great all-around book too because it touches on animal agriculture, produce, and mushrooms (which I don't see get talked about much), and also different methods like agroforestry and pasture systems.
Grain by Grain by Bob Quinn and Liz Carlisle
This book is basically the story of Bob Quinn and his farm, there's a lot of good info in it. This is the first book that really struck home to me that I need to listen to people in conventional agriculture even if I personally don't like it, because there's important experiences that need to be heard. It touches on topics like converting farms to more sustainable methods, heirloom crops, and how we deal with food/diet related science in the US. I don't have any health issues of note, but after reading this book I found an organic bread with Kamut wheat in it to see how it was, and it totally takes away any white on my tongue when I'm eating it daily. Pretty fascinating.
Perilous Bounty by Tom Philpott
This book widely covers major problems in US conventional agriculture, mostly covering major agriculture corporations and environmental impacts but also some labor issues, and small/mid size farm struggles. I'm not going to lie, this one is depressing. I generally do well with tough topics but near the end I had to put it down a few times because it was making me feel a bit hopeless. Which I fault the author with a bit for not dealing with better, because we need more hope to be able to believe these problems are fixable. He also doesn't cover the eastern US which irks me a bit because the south is a major agricultural region. But overall, a lot of great info and some interesting ideas for solutions near the end.
With These Hands by Daniel Rothenberg
I haven't actually read this one yet, but I've read sections. It looks like another tough read, but covers the experiences of migrant farmworkers across the US. Definitely trigger warnings for modern day slavery, racism, abuse, and more.
Dirt: The Erosion of Civilizations
I found this one to be a bit pessimistic honestly, but I read it a while ago so I dont remember what exactly bothered me. But it's a good overview of agricultural collapse through history, soil science, and issues in soil today.
Lentil Underground by Liz Carlisle
(Can you tell I've read all of Carlisle's books yet). So this book didn't really make much of an impression on me. But I'm recommending it because if anything it kind of illustrates the tediousness of policy change, changing people's minds, running an unconventional farm. It's a bit boring compared to the other recommendations but if you're in the industry there's things to think about in it.
Non-book recommendations
For a while was listening to Real Organic Podcast. After about 10 episodes (not in order) you notice they start to really repeat a lot of ideas. But they have a lot of episodes that highlight problems with chemical use, water use, how movements like organic get co-opted by big corporations, and more.
I also recommend the news website Civil Eats. They post a lot of book recommendations, as well as cover a whole variety of agricultural issues across the world.
If anyone has any additional recommendations feel free to add on! I'm always looking for more books >:)

How can I cope with traumatic flashbacks, specifically ones that are related to sexual assault? I don’t want to go into detail but it disturbs me greatly considering the one who did it is a family member who still lives at home and each time I go back I have to see him. Even after he admitted what he did, absolutely nobody in my family shunned him. The only thing that would give me relief is his death, but that won’t happen in a long while…
I don't have any coping mechanisms to recommend, but meditation as a sure way to heal.
The human body has everything we need to appropriately deal with our issues. The body renews its self every three years, and the only thing keeping it in its “shape” is our minds and memories that we identify with. Meditation will destroy every disturbance of the mind, but yes, there is a learning period you must get through to practice this new skill. The Holy Science of Meditation in particular accelerates this renewal process.
There's nothing to look for outside of this. You have all the solutions right now, so you either delay it or act. Fasting makes this process even quicker if you want to look into the science of autophagy, as the cells hold memories as well. The mind-body connection is one, and this individual you're speaking of has essentially taken up residence in your being.
Do you have to go back and see him? Do everything in your power to keep your peace. Nobody in your family will shun him because they're the same entity as him—he has taken the minds of those around him. When your family members are away from him, they seem relatively normal, but when they are around him, they acquiesce to his needs because that is an enmeshment situation.
You won't be able to see a way out until your mind expands, so I don't recommend delaying on this. You need to get this male out of your system first. Even if you have to be around him, your mental resilience and emotional health will improve either way, and you will get better at creating boundaries.

Kirby's Character Development 101 Questionnaire
A while back, I mentioned on my rp blog that I have a sort of questionnaire for myself to fill out when adding a new muse to make sure they're really established in my head before actually starting to write them. A few mutuals were interested in seeing what that looks like, so I finally got around to posting a blank copy.
You can treat this as either an ask meme to reblog, or something to copy-paste for your own personal use in muse development. All I ask is you don't claim this as your own.

Was looking for someone to anon this to since it relates a bit too much to my irl job and you've been responding to posts about the Cass Report, so, tag!
I work for one of the largest NHS Trusts in the UK. Everyone is responding to this thing as if it's a done deal that whatever it says goes, and that just isn't the case. In my Trust, the position so far seems to be:
1. We don't actually have to do anything differently because this has been published; we're free to set (and retain) our own policies
2. We will be deferring to this trans charity to advise us on how to talk about this to patients and how to support trans kids in this difficult time
Short version is medics are smart; they can see through the bad science here so if they're not already ideologically on board it won't change their minds. The Tories forced NHS Trusts to become independent and the fun thing about that is that it means they can't directly control what they do! All they can do is write reports for us to ignore.
Yeah, I'm not very familiar with UK health politics. Here in the US the Republicans have a lot less interest in coherent health policy, they just take a shotgun approach of "Here's 20 studies that vaguely say transition isn't always beneficial, therefore it has to be banned."
EDIT: It's hard for me to tell what the Cass report actually means for UK policy, is what I mean.

do you have any advice for someone who kinda "failed" to break into tech and is still in the medium-level for learning. i feel like i've spent so much time (years) on this but haven't made much progress. how do i really get into it and stay in it? love your blog btw. i'm tempted to start one of my own but my projects are a mess and ugly 😭
Tumblr media
I'm sorry to hear that you feel like you haven't made much progress in breaking into tech. It's important to remember that everyone's journey is different, and it's never too late to start or improve. But then again, you have spent years learning and you want to into the tech industry.

The obvious advice would be don't give up. My dad has been studying to get into Cybersecurity since the early 90s and he just got into the industry this year. He never gave up - family to look after and he could study like the other students in his university course because the large majority of them were single 18-22-year-olds who their only responsibility is themselves. Don't give up and don't compare yourself to other people.
You've got to look at what has been holding you back. Health issues, work issues, money? Can't study full-time or even part-time if you need to pay the bills.
Even if you can, are you consistent with your studying? We all know consistency is key. Studying for one week but don't study for 2-3 weeks won't work. I know the type of learner I am - if I don't code or study every day, even just for 30 minutes, then my tendency to procrastinate will increase a lot and it'll all go downhill from there.
Know your strength - build on the skills you are good at. Believe it or not, I know a developer I met in a discord server who only uses HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to build websites and webpage themes for clients as a freelancer and he's doing really well. It's because he realised that he's really good at those three basic languages and he worked really hard to excel at them. Expand on what you know best.
On the flip side, you could look at job postings around where you live or nationally in your country and see what skills/languages/technologies they ask for the most for hiring developers. Example: I live in the UK and a couple of months ago when I was actively looking for a new Frontend Dev job, I saw that Vue.js, React.js, and PHP (besides the usual HTML, CSS, and JavaScript) were asked for the most. If I wanted those jobs, I would learn those technologies, create a few projects to showcase my knowledge in them, and start applying. That could be one way to break into the industry.
Another way would be certificated. Bootcamps, online courses, or in-person courses like university or community colleges. Yes, they say that you don't always need a university degree to get into tech but some kind of education you've gone through that is tech-related e.g. Google courses or the Frontend Dev course that Meta is providing (paid). My colleague completed a computer science degree but he then did a bootcamp and he completed and that's how he landed the job where I work. So even graduates are getting further education. If you can't afford the massive fees, Udemy is a great place to get courses. And don't be shy with the Havard CS50 course videos they have on YouTube - free and you get a certificate free as well!
The advice I give might not work if you haven't identified why after all these years you haven't gotten your foot into the tech industry. This is no way intended to be rude, but if another person who had the same amount of time you studied, and they have gotten a tech job in that time, what makes you different? Goes back to what I said about the things that are holding you back. Some of the reasons are inevitable like health but you need to keep making that effort!
If you need help, you need to ask. Find a mentor or support group. Having someone to guide and encourage you can be incredibly helpful. Look for a mentor or join a support group where you can connect with others who are also learning and growing in tech. You can search for them online, some people offer advice for CV/Resume help or real "getting into tech" advice on places like Fiverr or Upwork or just google for some consultants online. They would cost obviously but if you're really struggling, this might help. After completing bootcamps, they tend to help you get your first job etc so they might be worth considering!
The last bit of advice is do you have a portfolio? No no, like a proper one where you feel confident enough to give to family members, friends, and potential employers? No? Either learn to build one (free of charge) or hire someone to build it for you (costs money) A portfolio is a great way to showcase your skills and projects to potential employers. Even if your projects feel messy or ugly, focus on highlighting what you learned and what you accomplished.
Tumblr media
Obviously, I gave hints of advice more towards Frontend Dev because that's what I know more of but you can alter the advice to whatever niche in programming you're into. Remember, breaking into any field takes time and effort. Stay motivated and focused on your goals, and don't be afraid to reach out for help or support when you need it. Good luck!
** I'm not the best at giving advice but I hope this helps 💗

About Psychiatry stuff in SPYxFAMILY. Part 2
In Part 1 I covered some aspects of working as a Psychiatrist in a Hospital. We still have some things left regarding this topic. In Part 3 I'll talk a bit about Psych exams and wrap some minor details and the question about Donovan's head scars in Part 4.
Thank you for your comments in Part 1! You guys make some really interesting points, it's a pleasure to talk to you. I've noticed that some of you are asking for an psychoanalysis of the Desmonds. I may do so in a different series of analysis, but pinky promise, I will talk about Donovan's head scars in Part 4, as I wrote less there.
Let's go!
4. The rest of the Psychiatry Department staff
Tumblr media
Aside from Psychiatrists and intern med students, every Psychiatric Unit in a Hospital has nurses, psychologists/therapists (I'm aware that they're not always the same in some places, particularly in the USA), occupational therapists (OT) and social workers, between the most common professions.
The OT is kinda a new addition since the profession is relatively new compared to the others, and its inclusion in Psychiatric Units started around the 70s, focused in social rehab (a really important task). I think SPYxFAMILY takes place around the 60s so I'm really not sure if there is an OT here.
Are they all joyous like in the manga? Well...
5. What's the hardest part of the job?
Tumblr media
For what I've recollected from talking with Psychiatrists, the hardest part of the job of a Psychiatrist working in a Hospital is dealing with real nasty shit coming from psychotic patients. I remember a young Psychiatrist in a Psychiatric Hospital that told my class of the time when she had to physically restrain a patient from gouging his own eyeballs out of his eye sockets, because he couldn't stop seeing demons and horrible monsters. Or the ones that paint the walls with their own feces. As I said, real nasty shit.
Of course, this goes for the rest of the staff as well. Not a very happy place to work, but you gotta do what you gotta do for the patients's sake.
Still, fortunately we live in an era with more tolerance towards psychotic patients, and social rehab is very appreciated (although its value may depend on your country's public health policies). Also, most psychotic cases don't behave in such an extreme fashion. Hopefully one day science will discover the definitive cure for Psychosis.
Are you a Psychiatrist and have a different opinion? Please write in the comments below!
-Ok but talk about what Loid is saying in those panels!
Indeed, nobody can read minds. Even if someone could, I wonder what exactly that person would see. I mean, try to concentrate in what is at the top of your own mind for 5 seconds. A ton of thoughts came rushing, right? Some of them very shady, even if they just flashed for less than a second.
But, we have our tricks to discern what is the most important issue for a person. Listening to our patients free of pre-conceptions is a basic rule. Observing their behavior is another. You can't start to listen if you don't work on a relation based on trust, of course (something that, indeed, nobody can teach you how; good luck figuring it out, use this bunch of tips though. Best wishes, your Psychotherapy teachers).
That said, there are many things that you can listen and observe from one single sentence said by a patient, depending of your understanding of the human mind.
A famous baldy named Michel Foucault wrote a book titled The birth of the clinic in which he claimed that modern Psychiatrists operate under what he called the medical gaze, which is an attempt to put a group of symptoms into a gnosographic cathegory (aka diagnosis) regardless of the actual subjective experience of the patient. This implies that Psychiatrists, like any other doctor, need to determine a diagnosis before doing anything else, and care a bit less about the patient's experience.
This isn't something bad. Imagine having someone trying to gauge his eyes out of his head to stop seeing demons in front of you. Would you ask that person how does he feels, or what he associates with the demons? Now, it's slightly problematic when you, as a Psychiatrist, deal with neurotic patients.
Neurosis is the direct contrast of psychosis; you're either living in a paralel reality, or in this one. You, dear reader, and I, are both neurotics. The fact that we are neurotics doesn't mean that we are sick; it's just a psychic structure. Now, we could get mentally ill, in a lot of ways. There's a ton of diseases listed in the DSM-V if you feel curious. But we probably won't experience hallucinations and say Meh, here comes Charlie the Satirus again, wazzup bro.
Operating under the medical gaze logic makes things way easier for Psychiatrists, specially when they don't have much time to develop a relationship of trust with their patients, like in some Hospitals. We therapists cover the rest of the job, performing psychotherapy and operating under a listening clinic. I'll illustrate the difference with a really burd example:
Let's say that you have been having a hard time trying to sleep at night for a while, and you decided to look for help. A behavioral therapist will teach you techniques and excercises to fall asleep more easily. A psychoanalyst will try to make sense of your symptom by making you freely associate it with whatever comes to your mind. A Psychiatrist will listen to your description of your symptoms, write "Insomnia" in the diagnosis and prescribe some benzodiazepine. Easy peasy, come see me again in one month.
Of course, not every Psychiatrist is like this; I've met some helluva awesome ones working in Hospitals. But once again, wether they're allowed to display their full potential or not is a matter that strongly depends of every country's public health policies. Psychiatrists do receive training in psychotherapy and they can take their time to talk with their patients, but having the conditions to do so is a completely different thing. If you want to be treated by a full-powered Psychiatrist, your best shot is to consult in a private clinic. Mind your wallet though.
Seems like Berlint General Hospital is a really nice place to work for Psychiatrists, as they apparently can hold psychoterapy sessions with their patients. PLEASE HIRE ME
6. The consultation room
Tumblr media
It's pretty common to depict Psychiatrists and Psychologists as the guys sitting down next to you taking notes while you are laying down in a divan talking your sorrows away. But have you ever wondered why it's always a divan?
It all starts with old sweet Sigmund Freud in 1890. By that time he was just staaaarting to think that maybe hypnosis wasn't the way to go for female hysteria, and the idea of an unconscious mind wasn't developed yet. On that year, a female patient sent him an elegant divan as a thankful token.
Golly, thank you miss! But what the heck do I do with it? The only possible thing, of course! Cover it in persian rugs and make your patients lay down on it while you tried to hypnotize them.
Remember, we are in the 1890. By that time, there were still doctors that believed the only cure for female hysteria was generating a 'hysterical paroxism' (too embarrassing to explain here).
Less than 10 years later, Freud realized that hypnosis didn't cure female hysteria but noticed that his patients got better after talking about it. So he decided to just sit down and listen to his patients lying on the divan, thus inventing the Free Association method, which is, basically, talking about whatever comes to the top of your mind and associate it with whatever comes next. Before you realize it, you're talking about the actual cause of your mental suffering.
THIS. WAS. REVOLUTIONARY.
While their patients laid down in the divan, Freud was sitting right behind them, like in this photo:
Tumblr media
-Why like this? Why behind?! Are you some kind of pervert, you Freudian fiend?!
No. The reasoning behind this is transference, one of the most important concepts in Psychoanalysis, Psychology, Psychiatry, and pretty much every kind of Psy-discipline. Transference is what makes a psychotherapy work and yield its results. It also explains why psychotherapy fails, when it does. It's similar, not equal, to what Americans call "therapeutic relationship" or "therapeutic bond". Transference made to the world of Psychology what the Industrial Revolution made to the world.
-You're exaggerating. What even is transference, anyway? Wait, don't answer I was kidd-
In every relation you establish with someone there's a quota of transference, which is the subjective place in which you put that other person in relation to you. This subjective place stems from your own relationship with whoever took care of you in your very early years of life: your mom, your dad, your older sister or brother, an uncle, a nanny, a caregiver from an orphanage, you name it. It doesn't matter who, as long as that person was interested in you enough as to preserve your life and make you feel like your life has value.
We are born in such a helpless, defenseless way that our strongest desire is to be the object of attention of someone else, to be desired enough as to be feed at least 3 times a day. Of course, if you're actually loved in the process, the better. Desire here doesn't have a sexual connotation; it's to mean something for someone else.
To mean something for someone, even if you end up meaning shit for that person.
Sometimes, meaning shit is way better than have no meaning at all and being completely ignored as if you don't exist for anyone. I've seen this in a bunch of cases of victims of domestic violence. It's quite sad.
In psychotherapy, patients inevitably stablish a transference with their therapists, who act like a white canvas in which the patients display those early relationships and how they affects them. Notice that I'm using the present tense; transference is something that changes little over time, unless you decide to explore why you choose the kind of friends you always choose, or why you always fall in love with assholes, or why you feel like you can't tolerate your boss anymore despite him being a good person.
-Get to the point, goddammit!
In order to facilitate transference, Freud decided to sit down in an angle in which his patients wouldn't see him. The reasoning was: if my patient can't see me, I'm more of a white canvas for him/her, and transference will be easier to discern and analyze.
The divan is no longer used in modern day except by some Psychoanalysts, but it's just tradition to have a divan in your consultation room if you are a therapist, as a form of homage to the man who changed our understanding of the human mind forever.
I've never seen a divan in a Psychiatric Unit of any Hospital, and actually, its absence makes sense, because you must NEVER, EVER, PUT A PSYCHOTIC PATIENT IN A DIVAN. NEVER. NOPE. NOOOPENOPENOPENOPENOPE. They can't tell reality from hallucinations apart, and if you have THE SINGLE WORST POSSIBLE IDEA of sitting behind a psychotic patient in the divan, you'll only get the patient think that your voice is another hallucination and make everything worse for him/her AND FOR YOU, FOR BEING A NEGLIGENT IDIOT. If the patient ends up hurting you, YOU WOULD DESERVE THAT. Just use a regular face-to-face interaction.
Aaaand oops, I did it again. I wrote a lot. There are still some things I want to write about, so see you in Part 3, dear reader!

Hi. From bits and pieces around your blog I gather you believe that people are usually happier when they choose and or people instinctively choose carreer paths aligned with their first two mbti functions. Or they choose a carreer that does not reflect their dominant and auxiliary mbti function on the hopes of proving the world wrong about them or proving to themselves that they can do it, which in turn makes them less happy in the long haul. If this is an accurate interpretation about your opinion on this matter I would like to ask you to please answer what carreer areas each mbti type would gravitated towards/be happier doing.
Part of me rebelled against this, because of a Fi-driven mentality of "do what you want, and don't let anyone tell you what career you should have." But yes, I suppose theoretically, every type would be happiest doing something that relates to at least their dominant function. Don't stick EFJs in the back stocking shelves, let them be around people, etc.
ENP -- something that demands creativity and allows them to think they are changing things for the better somehow (written word is often good, which is why a lot of them choose journalism instinctively or become novelists, podcast writers, etc); ENFPs want to work with people whereas ENTPs are happy working with systems
INJ -- something that lets them plan for the future in particular ways and that allows them to 'change' the future of the organization or business or whatever; they are going to want to see the eventual affects of their participation unfold in the real world (a payoff); INFJs are better at mobilizing people to get on board with a vision or cause; INTJs prefer to work alone and find viable jobs that aren't hands-on
ESP -- something physically and mentally challenging that allows them to improvise as they go and be fully bodily present; ESFPs are good in situations that demand emotional presence and realness; ESTPs enjoy more impersonal stuff more (several ESTPs I know of enjoy race-car driving/racetrack-related jobs, for example)
ISJ -- they gravitate toward long-lasting jobs already, that provide a service they know will still be viable in the future (dental, doctors, plumbers, etc); ISFJs do better in jobs that allow them to deal with people; ISTJs make really good lawyers, accountants, etc., somewhere they can make sense of a system and use it to make things clear for less logical types
ETJ -- succeed at pretty much whatever they put their mind to,and often gravitate toward high-paying jobs of all kinds; since they are not particularly "people-people," they will be good at jobs that require organization and emotional detachment when decision making; ENTJs will want something where there will be an eventual payoff for their future planning skills (they do really well in city planning, or architecture, or even politics, etc); ESTJs prefer to see more immediate results and don't shy away from detail-driven jobs (doctor, surgeon, etc)
ITP -- are good at tech jobs and often prefer them, since it doesn't directly involve working with people; it's something of a cliche that these types wind up as computer programmers and mechanics, but there's some truth in all stereotypes; figuring out systems and how to hack them comes naturally to them both; ISTPs want to be hands-on and in the bowls of a system; INTPs prefer theoretical environments (often science, technology, innovation)
EFJ -- are really good with people but not impersonal decisions, so they are good with PR, making clients like them, mobilizing others to work together, and getting up a team spirit; they make fine managers and business people in general, some of them gravitate toward teaching, health care, or humanitarian positions; ENFJs, again, want room to develop future visions for the future of X and will hate detail-heavy jobs; ESFJs are more hands-on and present to the moment, so they like working directly with customers and clients
IFP -- need something that they are passionate about, that doesn't constrain them overmuch, that allows them to bring a personal side to work; they usually choose jobs or try to make careers out of what they 'like' to do and that's subjective, so there's no ideal career for any of them; INFPs are more idealistic and want to make a difference to the future, ISFPs are more inclined to do whatever interests them today and then change careers later
No details, obviously, cuz that's not my thing. :P

Hello! Welcome to my blog! This is my main account. I use It mainly for fandom related content and for things like lgbt rights, mental health awareness, disability acceptance, and body positivity. I also occasionally get deep/personal here, but usually, it's just me reblogging fanart or text posts related to current hyperfixations and special interests! I hope you find my blog to be warm and inviting! DMs are always open!

Please do not mention specific weights, diets, or caloric intakes to me! With all the love in my heart, I have to force myself to simply Not Care or else my ED brain kicks in and goes into competition/insecurity mode. 💜
-I am chronically ill/under the physical disability umbrella. Please be aware that my spoons run low at times, and I may need to take space from others for a few days to rest. ♿️

-I am a Christian and I don't hide that about myself, so I post about it sometimes, though I have my sideblog @christians-united-by-love now, so I post that stuff mainly on there. However, I completely understand that some may have religious trauma and don't want to see that content. I will tag my posts on *this* account with "tw: religion," but not on my Christian sideblog since the title itself is a trigger warning for those who wanna stay away from it. Do not come here to hate on Jesus, God, or Christians. Respect needs to go both ways.
-I don't identify as a member of any political party. I know my beliefs tend to align more democratically, but at the end of the day both parties are corrupt, and I refuse to be blindly loyal to either one of them. So please don't come at me with red vs. blue propaganda. I just care about integrity and doing what's right for others, and neither side does it effectively. I am simply a humble server of the lord, and a believer in the power of compassion towards all His children❤️🙏
-Please ask me before bringing up anything related to sexual violence of any form, eating disorders, su*c*de, animal mistreatment, and self-harm. If I say I'm not in a headspace to handle those topics, please respect that- all of these are related to either a C-PTSD trigger, my ED, or just generally hard topics for me.
-I am openly supportive of Palestine's liberation and freedom! This is an anti-zionism space- and I say that as a Christian who wears it on my sleeve!!!
