There's an increasingly common plot device or framework that I'm seeing applied where a basic antisemitic narrative is retold with the evil Jew figures replaced with Nazis in an effort to make it no longer antisemitic while still telling the same basic narrative. For a concrete label, let's call it... Protocols of the Elders of Nazism. The Illuminati exists; there is a secret society threatening children with bloodletting, but it’s the Nazis this time, so it's no longer antisemitic (?). With enough care, this can be executed well, but it may be substantially flawed and wind up supporting real world antisemitism with what reads as a dog whistle or first layer of Nazi propaganda to make new recruits accept basic premises of Nazi ideology before hitting them with the hard stuff. This latter condition may be due to bad writing or literal Nazi propaganda and the lack of clarity is part of the problem.

There are a few instances where this is done reasonably well (YMMV), to make an antifascist point from a place of respect toward Jews and Jewish culture. Roald Dahl was very antisemitic, and his The Witches book reproduces the blood libel narrative, as does the 1990 film adaptation, but the 2020 film attempts to spin this around to code the witches as Nazis with a smattering of German (I believe I read somewhere that Anne Hathaway deliberately played her witch character as a Nazi). Guillermo del Toro's The Strain draws heavily from Dracula and Nosferatu, both frequently labeled as antisemitic, and spins the narrative to have the vampire bad guys intertwined with the Nazis while heroic Jews oppose them. Hunters does similarly, with a Nakam-like rogue group of heroic Jews (eh... *handwavy gesture*) opposing a secret conspiracy of Nazis.

And then there is worse execution, with the framework often appearing as leftist populism while also ferreting in ideas in common with rightist populism/actual Nazism. The Boys comics drip with allusions to antisemitic conspiracy theories as part of its populist message but technically has a Nazi bad guy and villainous American fascism, which makes me consider the comics to read like an antifascist work made by an ex-Nazi the day after he decided he was antifa. The Boys TV show (which has a significant Jewish presence in the production) is better but still suffers this problem with its depiction of an evil pharmaceutical company exhibiting traits in common with antisemitic conspiracy theories, just now with a Nazi origin associated with a revamped version of the comics' Nazi bad guy as well as the American fascism element. Associated terf ideas bring Abigail Shrier's antisemitic conspiracy theory to mind, as well.

Hogwarts Legacy dresses its goblin antagonists up like Nazis, has a line of combat dialog be "I was only following orders!", and depicts them as racist against humans... while also an allusion to anti-SJW Nazi propaganda characterizing feminist game critics as a Jewish conspiracy. The goblins drip with antisemitic imagery but are supposed to be Nazis. With one of the main developers' active advocacy for Gamergate and fixation on Anita Sarkeesian, who I believe was demonized through the main goblin antagonist in allusion to neo-Nazi antisemitic memes ("Anita Jewkeesian"), I think it's reasonable to characterize the game as Nazi propaganda. It's worth note that journalist Robert Evans suggests in The War on Everyone, his audiobook chronicling the development of American neo-Nazism, that Gamergate could have been created by Internet-savy neo-Nazis to spread propaganda.

Most recently, Wonka--also an adaptation of a Roald Dahl work--depicts an evil money-grubbing cartel with characters alluding to Hitler in name and appearance... and seemingly alludes to terf Abigail Shrier's antisemitic conspiracy theory with this evil cartel drugging a woman's daughter to give her a mustache. A chocolate that makes you get clever ideas, made of the essences of lightning and sunshine, is also concerning. ("The lightning and the sun" is a phrase from Nazi occultism representing Hitler as a heroic god figure opposing spiritual chaos, and you can find references to it as dog whistles in various places. Joe Rogan seems to have been indoctrinated in this ideology and similarly dropped references to it. It's possible someone involved in the production of Wonka stuck in lightning and sun references to dog whistle?)

This trope should not be seen as an instant fix for narratives grounded in antisemitism and may indeed carry ideas serving to induct people into coming to accept antisemitic conspiracy theories and associated problems. My takeaway is that depictions of Nazis should be handled with great care. It's not simply acceptable to stick them into any old evil archetype and call it a day. When resurrecting antisemitic narratives, care must be taken to insure the antisemitism itself doesn't propagate, whether or not Nazis are in it as bad guys.

I also loved the fic (forgot the name, sadly) where LXC is extremely straight and thinks LWJ is only with WWX because he's never been with a woman and therefore doesn't realize what he's missing. Mcu Stan's are some of the most ignorant and annoying people especially tony, Wanda and Peggy Stan's. I never understood how you could get mad at Jewish or romani people for having a problem with the way the mcu handles its characters. Countless Jewish people have pointed ot why peggy is problematic and why Wanda is to but people get so up in arms about it like a billion dollar company dosen't have the resources to research the characters they're writing.

Peggy as a character fustraits me so much because I know her problematic orgions in the mcu and so do the writers but they keep pushing her and it's starting to effect things outside the mcu.

They've already retconned the comics-Peggy to match MCU-Peggy/HA, to cover up that they adapted Cynthia-the-Nazi by another name.

(Sorry folks, a turd by any other name still stinks!)

They've given this new Buff Liz Truss her own run in the comics, where she performs sudden leftwingism by- omg, guys -discovering Colonialism is bad?? Oh wow, so impressive, give her a biscuit!

And they've had her attacking, somehow beating, and victim-blaming comics-Bucky, saying it's 'insane' of him to question her motives.

(Just like She-Hulk lusting over Steve's ass, you can tell it's a nasty dig by male Disney execs at female fans; in this case at those who point out how rotten Peggy is.

Ironically, it's super authoritarian, radfem and totally in-character of Peggy to violently attack anyone who dares to question her majesty, since that's the very first thing she ever did on screen!)

Right before pissing away 80+ years of comics history, showing absolute devotion between Steve and Bucky, to turn comics Bucky into a full blown villain who attacks Steve (y'know, like she did?)

Cutting off comics Bucky's nose to spite MCU Bucky's face, cuz all they really want to do is further de-gay MCU Steve in order to bring his stalker Agent Brexit into the main MCU movies again, (because that's her only value! As an accessory to a man!), while they’re supposed to be raising up a black Cap they transparently Did Not Want. 🤮

And just as it was absolutely unforgivable to take Jewish-penned Antifa Steve and pair him off with a Nazi, (I can't help feeling the Indiana Jones movies might have been an influence, there?)

It was also unforgivable to take Romani Jewish Wanda and turn her into a Nazi.

Her joint Jewishness and Romani heritage were important, too, because they showed the intersectionality of Fascism’s victims, since comics-Magneto (Jewish) met her Romani mother while imprisoned in Auschwitz.

(You could also count MCU Bucky under this whitewashing heading, too, since MCU Bucky is partly based on Jewish comics character Arnie Roth. Another Jew made into a villain to serve Disney's Fascist 'don't say gay' values!

There’s even speculation that they’re going to give WhatIf Bucky Peggy’s shitty corrupt backstory in the next season, and shift the blame off her by having Bucky co-found SHIELDra instead of her. I wouldn’t put it past these whitewashing bastards...)

I can't fault the mere existence of Wanda's villain arc, since that is in the comics...

Except for two things:

1) it was transparently done too soon, just because a male creative wanted to be the one to have Cool Scarlet Witch Stuff in his movie.

(If there had been, say, a second season of WV, detailing her slow post-bereavement descent down a dark-mother path? That would've been more interesting and made MoM more organic, IMO.)

2) The real problem, as someone on twitter I think pointed out, is that if you know about Wanda’s Jewish background in the comics...

Well, the whole film is about an evil red-headed Jewish witch trying to kidnap and hurt a child for magic ritual purposes. 😬

Which, if you know about the history of antisemitism, and that Wanda was originally Jewish, makes MoM ‘Blood Libel: the Movie.’

In terms of Wanda’s show, while WV was a great, well-made show, which I enjoyed, while she was an interesting character in it, and Olsen gave a great performance, what I didn't like were the conservative values.

It reminded me of the anti- second wave feminism films of the 1980s, where any woman who has a career (read: power, like Wanda has) is shown basically being driven insane by it and secretly just wanting to be a tradwife all along, even to the point of threatening her man if he interferes with it.

In Wanda, we have a woman who never mentioned wanting the white-picket-fence life before, suddenly being desperate to give up an icky career to be a stay-at-home-mom in the suburbs, just because of the kind of 'golden age' sitcoms Disney would love to be associated with.

And it's presented as a terrible tragedy that she doesn't get to keep this sheltered 'dream' 1950s nuclear-family life and the slaves sorry, ‘prisoners with jobs’ necessary to maintain it.

The spirit of Kevin Feige’s pathetic self-insert, aka Endgame Skrull Steve, is alive and well.

Even after this, he lied and sneaked around behind the Avengers’ backs to hubristically tamper with alien tech in order to create Ultron, leading directly to the endangerment of the world and further deaths in Sokovia (in another universe, this almost destroyed the entire multiverse).

He co-signed Accords which violated human rights, not affecting him since he’s rich, just to shift future blame and responsibility off himself and make him look dateable to Pepper. He admitted he knew Bucky was a brainwashed “Manchurian Candidate” but tried to murder him (to spite Steve) anyway.

He refused to call Steve back when Thanos was coming, just out of piqued pride (if you wanted to calculate the potential consequences of that, maybe: half of all life in the multiverse?) And when asked to help undo the Snap his ego helped create, he says he “won’t, even” because, hey, it doesn’t affect him personally so who gives a shit, right??

But like a true billionaire none of this ever has any consequences for him!

He only sees the inside of a jail when he’s visiting!

So what with his messianic nuclear-family ending you can see why Disney haven’t felt the need to sabotage his comics incarnation. MCU Tony is right on-message!

I saw Suspiria a while ago so I don't remember it very well, but what did you think about the very-missable-kinda-not-that-plot-relevant RAF/antifa subplot?

It's not irrelevant or missable, I think people are just not used to putting things together that aren't explicitly spelled out. The Markos Academy essentially functions as a micronation in the film with Helena Markos and her faction as a fascist regime. Much like actual fascist regimes, her power relies on a mythical and ahistorical version of the past, namely her false veneration as Mother Suspiriorum. They derive their power from the body politic, hence why the dance performance/ritual designed to give power to Markos is called Völk (also a very politically charged word with strong connotations connecting it to Nazism and fascist mysticism through its use in propaganda and the Völkisch movement). The two characters who see through the academy before anyone else (not counting Susie/Suspiriorum) are both politically leftist: Patricia, who is either a member of the RAF or sympathetic to them, and Olga, who is from the Soviet Union, for which they are both imprisoned and tortured, much in the same way historical opponents of Nazism and the RAF during the film's time period. Sara only becomes suspicious of the academy after encounter Dr. Klemperer, who witnessed the Nazi regime and draws parallels between what he saw then and what he's witnessing at the academy (which is also why metaphorically he's chosen as the witness to the witches' sabbath at the film's climax - he is witness to atrocity twice over). It's not even a statement about fascism I particularly agree with, since the film portrays it as a purely mystical phenomenon that is enacted upon a hypnotized body politic for the exercise of apolitical "power" (rather than as the final defense of capitalism against a revolutionary working class), but it's definitely there and I don't agree at all with reviews saying the political stuff didn't make any sense lol.

I haven't seen the original but from what I understand the remake was radically different enough to essentially be its own movie. I plan to watch the original at some point though.

okay so. eda clawthorne, disabled antifa icon. i’ve seen several takes that her harpy forme is bad because it’s too close to “disabled superpower” tropes for comfort, but i think i figured out why i like it.

it’s not a perfect metaphor, because eda is a witch who’s cursed to share a body with an extinct owl beast demon, but the harpy form? That’s a metaphor for getting a mobility aid. You have to make compromises now, it’s inconvenient to get used to, but you can move so much faster and more freely than you could before!

It was surprising to find out it was Marchy because they were one of the artists I didn't suspect of having a blankshipping sock. Truth be told, I thought it might be Esprei because they blocked me around the same time I responded to questioninqthings' pinned post. They were one of the tolerant popular artists who ignored me, but they come across low-key monster fkr and are friends with a bunch of those people. It might have been because I said some not-nice things about the Covid scam, and they recently did a stupid Covid mask wearing Submas before blocking me.

That's the thing....I say things about a lot of things. Even if a person says they are into blankshipping, there's still the stupid radical leftist criteria. Fandom basically becomes far leftist transtrender antis versus far leftist transtrender proshippers into stupid fetish bingo. There's no middle ground or dissenting opinions.

Since I talk about the Submas being thirsty for dog-ass too much, I'll go on a different sort of tangent. One of the newer arrivals on the blankshipping tag (who blocked me for not being into transtrender sheeit..) did a story where Ingo and Emmet were yote to Hisui, yet they were openly Jewish trans males. Fun fact: For most of history, people were afraid to openly tell people they were Jewish for fear of death, and transgenderism was such a huge no-no it wasn't even a thing. People have it extremely good now. Nobody has to live in constant fear with a constant sense of their own mortality. That's why I was joking that Ingo barely scrapped by in Hisui, but Emmet would have been burned as a witch because he was too weird. Even Emmet with his extremely poor social skills wouldn't be stupid enough to tell people he was a Jewish transexual during the Meiji Restoration Period.

The thing about having a constant sense of one's own mortality is that one would be really paranoid about making good decisions to stay healthy. They wouldn't go out of their way to be a fucking weirdo and engage in behaviors that have caused civilizational collapse. Since we live in a period of unprecedented fossil fuel glut, a lot of people have extremely cushy lifestyles that likely interfere with their ability to regulate dopamine. They are stuck having to seek out greater novelty to get that feeling of happiness. Because of that, they become constantly triggered narcissists who, instead of having their amygdalas triggered by actual problems that could kill or maim them, will project angst on people who disagree with their world views. How many times have you heard a trans person on Tumblr say something like, "THEY WANT ME DEAD!!1! THAT'S WHY I BULLY THEM!!"

Then they accuse dissenters of being 'NAZIs' and sheeit... Please...trans virtue signalers have nothing to fear in this cushy world. In fact, the leftist is the oppressor now, and they have been for decades. You are about a thousand times more likely to get your head stomped in by a whackadoodle antifa or BLM useful idiot than the almost nonexistent 'right wing extremist', and this is true to the point they cover for certain people in the media.

Thinking about what I've written in my latest fan fic, it makes me wonder...how many of these constantly triggered creampuffs been through it? How many times did they miss a meal or were in such constant pain they felt like they would throw up? How many wished they were dead from pain? (self-inflicted doesn't count. That's another symptom of poor dopamine regulation). How many had someone try to kill them or witnessed a family member die violently? How many have felt like they have no sense of privacy because they are always being watched? How many have seen the look of rage in a person's eyes who actually wants to kill them? I bring this up because such experiences will awaken that healthy sense of one's own mortality that would make it so small traumas -such as someone disagreeing with your leftwing death-cult bullshit- don't seem like that big a deal.
