Ok ok so @quotidian-oblivion has been (lovingly) pestering me to make something of my/our comment thread on "bane" where we were talking about the whole "Ra's wants tim's babies" thing, and what if that actually happened, so here it is 😂 (tw for referenced rape)
So obviously this could only happen if Cass didn't save Tim from Ra's's half-sister so. Hella angst
Poor Cass is devastated that she was too late to stop it. She blames herself, even tho everyone tells it her its no one's fault but Ra's and his sister. She becomes ridiculously protective of tim in response, even well beyond the time she forgives herself
Dick clings to Tim for an entire day when he finds out, trying not to feel rain on his skin, promising it'll be ok someday, that he's there, he'll do anything he can. He's guilty too, wishing he'd been in better contact, gone with Tim, done anything that could have spared him Dick’s nightmares
Damian’s world has shattered. Grandfather... does not want Damian. As his heir. He wants a previously nonexistent child. DRAKE's child. And he has stooped to the lowest low to get it. The carefully built family around Damian is in mourning for something he doesn't fully understand, and Drake now flinches when Damian, in what was supposed to be a peace offering, calls him "Timothy"
Steph and Tim make up as friends when she comes to support him with the shock of knowing that he has (will have, bc they are NOT leaving it with Ra's) a child now that he was not ready for. She doesn't touch him once while she's there, stays at arm's length, and that, Tim thinks, is what makes the visit feel as comforting as a hug
Jason is horrorstruck and breaks out of the rage/aggression and channels it towards hunting down League assassins bc what the fuck how DARE ra's? Tim was fucking 17 and Jason does not care how powerful this bastard is, he's going the FUCK down because NOBODY messes with Jason's baby brother but Jason himself
Barbara is ranting about how Ra's cant even know the genetics are going to fucking WORK how he wants them to, but breaks off abruptly as Tim's eyes well up, changing to enumerating all the baby things she's ordered and telling the dumb science jokes on the onesies because she NEEDS to see Tim laugh
Alfred LOOKS composed but every night he grips that shotgun real tight and has to remind himself that these kids need him, he can't risk himself for vengeance, what matters is Master Tim and the new little master or miss to be. He asks Tim privately if he'd like to choose a room to be the child's nursery. Tim doesnt know, but that's ok, dear boy, that's ok.
Bruce comes home and instead of the joy of reunion (or well, after it) has to struggle not to cry bc God his poor little boy... Damian was a shock too but at least Bruce and Talia loved each other. At least Bruce fucking consented. At least bruce was a goddamn adult. He doesnt think he will ever be rid of the guilt that Tim only found his way to Ra's by looking for Bruce
And Tim himself...
He can't go underground, at all. He redesigns his costume so that he can only unfasten it with a biometric lock, and doesn't tell anyone where it is except Alfred (medical emergencies). Some days, he can't look the girls in the eyes. Some days, he can't look at them at all, not without memories of things he isn't supposed to have seen or. Or felt. He's kidnapped as Red Robin once and chained to the wall, and he dissociates until someone (Jason this time, and who'd have believed THAT a year ago?) comes to save him. He can't get a good night's sleep anymore, not that he ever could but still
He feels paralyzed. There is no putting this off, no playing for time, nothing. They were able to confirm that Ra's's sister IS pregnant, and he knows damn well it's his, and nature waits for no one. In less than nine months now there's going to be a squalling, breathing, tiny, fragile, entire child, and unless he steps in, Ra's is going to raise it. Which means torturing it into a killer.
Every part of Tim screams NO
So they use those months to plan. How do they get in, how do they get out, WHEN is this supposed to happen because they can't well kidnap the child from the delivery room, the poor thing has to be in some kind of stable health, they need to KNOW these things, and thats when Bruce gets a call
Because Talia is fucking livid. She knows Ra's is an asshole, that's why she got Damian to Bruce, but this was a whole new low, her goddamn AUNT pregnant by her teenage non consenting STEPSON? She can't stop that any more than the others now, but she knows what she CAN stop: another tiny child being twisted and corrupted by this absolute monster. They need a spy, right? Well they got one
So there y'are, Q, the horribly angsty beginnings of this Dad!Tim AU. It doesn’t look pretty right now, but it will slowly get happier bc babies are adorable, dammit.

So you made your way down the halls and onto the third floor. As you enters the room, opened Mr.Wilson’s laptop, and typed “Barbara Gordon” into the machine. It began to load. 1-5-10-15-20-25-30-35-40-45-50-55-60-65-70-75-80-85-90-95-100%! Loading….. ………………………………………………………………………. NO FILES FOUND ON “GORDON, BARBARA

No files found? This-this wasn’t possible! Damian wouldn’t! Could he? Was Barbara Gordon really kidnapped! Why would Damian lie about something like that? The betrayal seemed to grow inside of you. It filled you with rage and the feeling of being stupidly naive. You believed him after everything he did to you. Damian was going onto your list next. But what you didn’t expect next was the loud “boom” of the office doors to open! There, they stood. Damian, Mr.Wilson, Cory, and Mr.William’s.
“Y/n”! Damian roared like a lion. “What are you doing in here?! I told you to stay put”! He said before walking quickly over to you and going to grasp your left arm.
“Y/n! What on earth are you doing in my office. You are not aloud in here”!, Mr.Wilson’s voice boomed out loud.
“You’re a liar! All of you! You-you manipulated me! You-you-you wanna kill me”! You screeched out loud!
“You’re right”, Damian said as he pulled a sharp blade out of his pocket. Professionally quick he lifted the blade up and over your head and then pushed it down and your blood wen-!
You gasped! A dream! It was all a dream. Well, not all of it. Barbara Gordon not being found was not a dream. But no one found out you had looked for her, expect for Cory you guessed. You hadn’t told anyone about it and instead went back to the dorm and fell asleep in Damian’s bed. You wanted to tell him, but how were you suppose to tell your kind of boyfriend that you didn’t listen to him and that you found out he lied?! So instead, you opted to keep your mouth close instead. At least until you were readier to find out the truth about Barbara Gordon. If she even was real. Though, last night, you still choose to but Cory’s name in your locker note. Hector, Josiah, or Damian? You were still partially deciding.
You were more leaning more towards Damian though. You knew he meant well or at least he thought so, but everything wasn’t adding up! It was confusing and quite frankly, unnecessary. You were just going to put Damian on the list tonight, and then tomorrow you were going to put Hector than Josiah. Easy peezy lemon squeezey.
As you walked down stairs and got some breakfast you went over to sit with Cory instead of with Damian, Steph, Jason, Cass, and Tim. You didn’t need them annoying you anymore than they already were. And beside, you found out you Cory had a lot more in common than you thought. For the rest of your stay here, you were going to sit with Cory and his friends during meal breaks!
Though, of course there were a few glares here and there. Especially because Cory was touching your thigh and was going to a little too high for comfort. His friends were also giving you googly eyes. The thing that really seemed to push Damian over the edge was when Cory bent over and tried to kiss you! He instantly stood up and marched over to you saying he needed you. You were thankful, but Cory seemed to be glaring in the back of your head.
“That was unnecessary”, Damian said sarcastically with a straight face.
“He was just being friendly, Damian. He’s actually really sweet if you get to know him”, you said with a small smile slowly creeping up your face.
Damian scoffed. “There’s nothing sweet about him! He’s an asshole who clearly has you fooled. You can’t trust anyone, Y/n. What would happen if Cory really does know who’s threatening you? It’s the perfect cover up for him,” Damian said with a serious tone.
“Damian…… did you lie about Barbara being real? Listen, I know! I know you told me not to worry about it, but I searched up her files! She’s-she’s not real! Is she, Damian”, you said with a hint of desperation in your voice.
“You disobeyed me. Y/n! I told you not worry about it! Barbara’s files were deleted after she went missing! That’s what happens! The police take it so they can investigate! Did you seriously think I would make something like that up”?
“But Cory said he knew everyone in the school! He-he said he didn’t know Barbara! So that’s why I checked. I had to make sure you weren’t my stalker”, you said hoping he wouldn’t be angrier than he already was at you.
“Why the hell would I be your stalker?! And the fact that you believed Cory over me, makes things ten times worse! I stayed with you through everything, Y/n”, he shouted drawing attention to the both of you.
“I know- I know. I’m sorry okay! It was a bad idea! Please Damian”, you said desperately reaching for his hand. You expected him to move away but instead, he let it rest next to his left side. He let the warmth of your hand sink itself into his ice cold hands.
“I’ll only forgive you because I owe it to you after going along with everyone thinking you were crazy. But you owe me. You have to sleep in my dorm for the rest of the week”, he said with sly grin plastered onto his face.
“Deal”, you sighed out and then hooking your pinky’s together.
“Why don’t we head over to L/c? I already finished our project, so we can have a relaxing period”, Damian said as he wrapped his arm around your waist and kissed your cheek.
“Whatever makes you happy”, you said before resting your head on his shoulder.
As you both neared your L/c you saw a familiar shadow. Cory. You just prayed that when Damian saw him, he wouldn’t make a big deal out of it. You thanked whatever god was up there that Cory didn’t have that language class with you.
“Hey Y/n. Damian”, Cody said sourly. Though, he did stick his hand out for Damian to shake, which was pretty nice. But, Damian didn’t return the favor so he, instead, crossed his arms clearly refusing to shake Cory’s hand.
Don’t you have Geography, Cody”, Damian said sarcastically.
“It’s Cory. And a matter affect I do! I just thought I’d stop by and say “hey”, Cory said with a grin and crossing his arms. Almost like he was mocking Damian.
“We’ll you might want to get along to that”, Damian said rolling his eyes and gripping your arm, pulling you inside of the classroom.
“Damian, you didn’t have to do that”, you said as you took his hand and pulled him towards the front. Though, he directed you towards the back of the room and pulled you down so you sat directly next to him.
“Well, what can I say, I don’t like someone who currently has been suspended more than his record can hold, talking to you”, Damian said reaching down to hold your hand.
“Well I’ve got the whole class period, so what can I do to make it up to you”, you questioned him while you gently began to raise your hand higher to his upper arm.
“We could ditch and go make out in the bathroom”, he suggested
“Sure”, you said seducingly. As you made your way out of the classroom with Damian quickly following behind you, you both told the teacher you were heading to the nurse. Damian ‘insisted’ on coming with because your ‘severe headache’ could have you fainting any second. Since he was the top of all of his classes, the teachers would believe he knew about health more than they even would.
You both began to run down the hallway giggling like fools. You really couldn’t remember the last time you felt like this. I mean sure, you had an ex-boyfriend and all, but he never made you feel like this. But then again, it wasn’t like you both faced life or death. Mason Gray was his name. You both loved each other very much, but when he moved away to be closer to Harvord, his dream school, you knew he would fall in love with someone else, so you decided to break up with him. You’d never heard if he really did find another girl. You just assumed. He was a hot 5’5, blond hair, blues eyes, and skinny but strong kid. He’d be what? 16, no 17! He’s turned 17 in May. You both met each other during your first day of middle school when he had a locker right next to yours. It was fate, at least for a while. But now you had Damian! You felt as though he was the only one you truly needed in your life right now.
Soon after you had finished your make out session, you both headed up towards Damian’s dorm. Luckily, he stopped at your locker making sure you put the note with ‘ Hector’ on it and into your locker. Tomorrow would be day 6. If you were wrong today, you’d have only two guesses left. Two days, you might be dead. But as long as Damian was here, you knew everything would be okay.

Stuff for the Robin#3!Steph au based loosely on Robin #101 that lives only in my head:
Dick and Steph are very close like Tim and Dick are. She's literally his little sister.
Steph basically immediately inherited the Teen Titans the moment she wanted a team. (Her teen titans team consists of Mia Dearden, Raven, Garfield Logan, Vic, Rose, and some others but none of young justice cause. Duh. It's based off a world without young justice. Suggestions allowed!)
Instead of jack making Tim quit Robin, Steph has to take a break from Robin in order to conceal her identity cause Arthur broke out of jail. She still acts as a vigilante during that time, using the name she used when confronting Arthur when Bruce found her: Spoiler
"Well who is the fourth robin?" I hear you ask. To that I propose: Tiffany Fox. (Or Tam but I like Tiff more.) And instead of dying Lucius finds out and goes "what the actual fucking shit. No." (He pulls a Jefferson with Anissa and doesn't let tiff out as a vigilante until she finishes college. Idk if she would become a Batgirl after or choose a different name tho.)
I don't think Helena would be close with Steph like she was with Tim. I think Steph would try to be close but Helena wouldn't like it. (They get closer further into the future but they are not close for a long time)
When Damian shows up his relationship with Steph is a lot closer to when she is Batgirl than when it was Damian and tim.
When Jason comes back I feel like he would be more accepting of Steph as Robin. Only cause of her independent operation as Spoiler.
During what would be Steph's Red Robin, she does actually go by red robin. She definitely got attached to the name.
This is where Steph dies. She doesn't ally with the League like Tim does. I'm not exactly sure what would happen when Steph searches for Bruce other than she dies. For a teensy bit like in the comics.

Bruce still co-parents Cass with Babs and Steph and Cass are the Batgirl and Robin duo ever (no stephcass in this au they are sisters. This au is in fact Stephmia.)
Steph and Babs are really close. Steph agrees with Babs that maybe the joker should die.
It's not super fleshed out just mainly little ideas that pop into my head.

I went to see the new Batman movie today and I am very excited. I’m gonna just bullet point stuff down below, so go forward with caution.
Potential spoilers ahead, you have been warned
Holy mother of Maple the suit is accurate???? Like, not necessarily comic book accurate, but to the real world. You can see the break lines where cowl turns to cape, turns to suit, turns to boots!!!
That beginning monologue was kinda funny. Like, it obviously wasn’t mean to be, but it was just angsty enough to toe the line, and it made me snicker a little.
Speaking of, there were little moments all through out that were just… so ignored, that it’s obviously a common enough occurrence, but it was just a little funny.
I know I’m not the first to say this, but holy moley, this Bruce Wayne would realistically be willing and able to take in children, and he’d actually cope on a level that previous incarnations of the character wouldn’t have.
The route the writers took with Martha Wayne’s family being the Arkhams, rather than the Kanes, may cause issues with bringing in Kate and Bette to the family (should they choose to bring them into the story) but, ultimately, if Arkham Asylum is still run by the family, it gives Bruce a potential connection to pretty much all of the rogues, but most prominently Harley Quinn and Scarecrow.
They managed to make the Riddler a problem. Like, this may just be the type of exposure I’ve had to the Riddler, but he’s always had this goofy, eccentric feel to him (not a bad thing!!!). This wasn’t that. You could see exactly why Riddler would be a flipping problem if he ever broke out of Arkham. The problem is it didn’t feel like just the Riddler, it felt like a combination, but dang it if I know who the other person/people are!
Carmine Falcone. Carmine Falcone was the slimiest damn person on screen at any given point in time, and it was beautifully done.
The Penguin, holy cripes, the performance was so good, and he was sassy and angry and hahaaaaa- It was a very nice performance.
I could go for daaaays about Selina Kyle. She was funny, she was sassy, she didn’t take any of Bruce’s bullshit, and when the opportunity came up? She had to be held back from murdering the heck out of Falcone!
Selina and Bruce had the vibe of ‘this will be the recurring love interest that will maintain a love-hate relationship with the audience because she and Bruce are just never going to get together in any way that she would stay in Gotham long term.
If (and it is, at this point, a big if) the Robins/Batgirls/Batkids are going to be a thing, then come Jason’s death, Bruce is gonna be a heckling disaster. Like, Tim Drake will become a necessary continuation of that story line, if they wanna keep Batman around. And then, Jason comes back a few years later (and I have theories for how they could fill in some of the gaps) and turns around and goes “why the fuck wouldn’t you kill the Joker?! Did you not love me enough???” And everyone would lose it.
Selina would make Red Robin jokes. Tim would snap that “it’s not my fault, I was kinda in a rush!” And Selina would turn to Dick and go, “Yeah, we need to talk about that” and Dick, who’s already gotten it from Alfred, Jason, Steph, Cass, Commissioner Gordon (which, how the fuck??), Babs, any one who has any way of finding out has had a go at him for it, just groans and goes, “yup, sure Selina, whenever you want.”
Wayne Manor (which I think got turned into an orphanage?) has the potential to become the biggest running gag, whether it’s just among the kids, or it’s Gothamites in general. Like “hey, what happened to the old Gotham orphanage? Like, after the Riddler, what did the family do with it?” “Oh, it’s still an orphanage.” “But how? I thought the Wayne family lived there.” “Exactly.”
Bruce: you’re not my father, Alfred
Me, in the middle of the theatre: Bitch, he helped raise you, shut the fuck up.
The Batmobile was so cool!! This tires could be jacked by a starved eleven-twelve year old boy.
It most definitely has an intimidation button. Any one who Bruce let’s into the car just begs to press the button. The answer is always no. They press it anyway. Yes, even if the person is well into their twenties.
There are more, but they lean into where I want them to take the series, rather than things I noticed and thought were cool (or things I think would happen that have no plot relevance)

Hiii!! I really love your tumblr posts and I'm pretty new to the Batfam (meaning I have only read fics and textposts about them, no comics) and I wanted to ask about the year Bruce/Batman gets "lost in time". I know general things of what the kids have been doing–Dick became batman and fired Tim from robin, giving it to Damian, everyone thinking Tim was crazy for believing Bruce was alive, (don't really know what Jason was up to though, was he still murderous towards Tim? Does the pit still affect him? Also I have no idea about Cass and Duke, were they introduced at this point??) Anyways, my real question was why was Bruce lost in time, what villain put him there? And how did he get out? And how long was he "dead"? Was Bruce in another reality or like just asleep the whole time? Oh! And how soon did this happen after Damian got introduced to the family–a couple months?
I'm so sorry this is so long, but I hope you answer and thank you!!
(I’m going to try and cover all my bases here by going into how exactly Bruce “died,” what went down during the Battle For the Cowl, what the Batkids did while Bruce was gone, and how Bruce came back. Hopefully it all makes sense?? We’ll see how it goes lmao.)
Part 1 - What Happened to Bruce:
So there was this event called Final Crisis (which I won’t go completely into since it would make this post a million times longer than it already is), but the bottom line is that Darkseid wants to overthrow reality and release his Anti-Life Equation, which would overthrow the whole planet and turn everyone into slaves. (If you’re interested in knowing more about the storyline, here’s a Reddit thread that explains it WAY better than I could.) 
What I CAN tell you is that during his final confrontation with Darkseid, Bruce is hit by an Omega Beam and turned into a burnt chicken nugget killed. Poor guy.

Final Crisis #6
Clark and Diana bring the body back to the Batcave and break the news to the Batfamily. Batman #687 covers a good portion of the aftermath such as Bruce’s funeral, the Batfamily grieving, and Dick coming to terms with his new responsibility of becoming Batman.

Part 2 - Battle For the Cowl: 
Musical chairs time, fellas! After word gets out that Batman is gone, Gotham erupts into chaos. Dick doesn’t want to take over the mantle, Tim needs Dick to take over the mantle, and Jason says “fuck it” and takes over the mantle himself because somebody around here has to. He becomes this murderous psychopathic Batman and starts taking out criminals with deadly force because someone’s gotta do the job, so it might as well be him.

Batman: Battle For the Cowl #1
(Okay honestly, this series had some pretty bad characterization overall, which sucks since it’s such an important storyline. Jason is portrayed as this violent psychopath, which...okay, he was kind of insane after the Pit and all, but not to this degree. Personally, I choose to owe the bad characterization to Bruce’s death because as much as Jason resents Bruce for all he’s done, he does still love him and losing him would be devastating, which would exacerbate his already fragile mental health. As for Damian, this happens roughly three years after his first appearance, so we can assume it’s been a few months since he first joined the family. He’s still relatively new at this point, so nobody knows how to write him yet. He ends up being depicted as if his main two personality traits are Bratty and Assassin-Child and that’s it. It’s all just a mess.)
Anyway, Tim tells Dick to become Batman and stop Jason’s reign of terror. Dick says no, so Tim follows Jason’s lead by saying “fuck it” and putting on the cowl himself. He goes to confront Jason, which ends in Jason beating the crap out of him (again) and leaving him for dead after Tim declines his offer to become Jason’s Robin. Dick goes to save Tim and ends up fighting Jason.

Dick wins, Jason disappears, Tim is fine, and Dick finally gets his head out of his ass and becomes Batman. 
Part 3 - What Happens to Each Batkid While Bruce is “Dead”?:
Dick: 
As I said, Dick becomes the new Batman a month after Bruce’s death. He’s got big shoes to fill, and it takes some time for him to get used to his new role. He and Damian end up flipping around the classic Batman and Robin dynamic, with Batman now as the fun counterpart to Robin’s edginess. Dick, Damian, and Alfred relocate to the penthouse above the Wayne Foundation building, operating out of a secret Bat-Bunker in the basement.

Jason: 
After Battle For the Cowl, Jason is still batshit insane and determined to make Dick’s already stressful life even harder by becoming a supervillain with an ugly costume and an even uglier hairstyle. (I know it’s just because the artist sucked, but still. Jason is horrifying to look at during this time.) He mostly just gets on Dick’s nerves by running around Gotham with his new sidekick Scarlet and killing criminals as Batman and Robin wannabes. Eventually, Dick has Jason committed to Arkham Asylum and he hangs out there until Bruce returns.

Tim: 
Tim...doesn’t do great after Bruce’s death, mentally. Dick makes Damian Robin, his reasoning being that Robin is more of a sidekick and he sees Tim as his equal. By making Damian Robin, Dick hopes that it will give him the stability he needs to keep him from straying back toward the “bad” side. (It’s the right move ultimately, although his execution was pretty messed up since he didn’t discuss it with Tim beforehand, but he’s allowed to make mistakes. Dick’s father just died and now he’s in charge of picking up the pieces of their broken family. It’s a lot to handle.) 
Long story short, Tim has a breakdown, realizes that Bruce is alive, dons the Red Robin identity, and cuts ties with his family to travel the world in search of proof. It’s a rough time.

Damian: 
Our little guy becomes Robin! So proud of him! As I explained earlier, Dick makes Damian his Robin with the assumption that it will keep him out of trouble, and he’s right on that account. He mentors Damian, teaching him how to channel his violent instincts into something productive, and it works! Slowly but surely, Damian makes the transition from bratty assassin to actual hero!

Cass:
Duke sadly was not introduced at this point in time, so he missed out on all the pandemonium. Cass, however, has been Batgirl for years by now, but she got kind of pushed aside by the writers after Bruce’s death. Bruce disappears shortly after adopting Cass, but once he was “dead,” the writers sort of moved Cass around for a while, not quite knowing what to do with her. First she was with the Outsiders. Then they got disbanded and Cass tried forming a new network of heroes to take over for Batman if needed. Then she helped out in said network during Battle for the Cowl, taking care of a newly ravaged Gotham. Then Cass gave the Batgirl mantle to Stephanie Brown after she became disillusioned with the role, thanks to the loss of her father and mentor. Then Cass picked up and moved to Hong Kong to “follow Bruce’s plans” by continuing whatever work he had set up for her there. It was all very vague and confusing, and Cass more or less got swept under the rug during this time. Thanks, writers.

Part 4 - How Bruce Came Back: 
When the Blackest Night storyline happens, the Justice League realizes that the corpse buried under Bruce’s grave is apparently not the real one and that he’s actually alive out there somewhere! How wild is that! This is further proven by Dick after he places Bruce’s body in a Lazarus Pit to revive, which has the same result because it’s very clearly Not Bruce and they should have listened to Tim from the start.

Batman and Robin (2009) #9
Anyway, what actually happened is that the Omega Beams that Darkseid shot at Bruce didn’t kill him, but rather blasted him back through time to the prehistoric era with his memories wiped. The Omega Energy inside of Bruce ends up catapulting him through various time periods, which is all part of Darkseid’s plan. With each time-hop, Bruce builds up more Omega Energy in his body which, when he gets back to his original time period, will be unleashed and destroy everything.

It’s been a little under two years since Final Crisis, though in-universe it’s uncertain exactly how long Bruce has been “dead.” We can assume it’s been a year, give or take. The way he comes back is too scientific and complicated for me to understand, so uhhhh the bottom line is that Tim and a few Leaguers save Bruce at the Vanishing Point and the day is saved! Hooray!

After that, things quickly settle back into their new normal. Dick and Damian stay on as Batman and Robin. Bruce goes back to being Batman as well, with him handling Batman Incorporated business and Dick continuing as Gotham’s defender. Tim keeps the Red Robin outfit, Steph stays on as Batgirl, and Cass becomes Black Bat. Jason stays in Arkham for a while before filing an appeal to be moved to a regular prison. He kills 82 inmates in less than a week and gets transferred back to Arkham, which he promptly escapes from. It’s a ride, I tell ya.

Just remembered I had a plot so oops
Marinette wasn’t stupid. Nino had a brother only a few years older than Robin, and that brother had never acted so young or clingy at Robin’s age (and it surely wasn’t a thing about Robin, because she had yet to see him cling to anyone else). She knew that Robin was just using her to mess with Red Robin.
But she didn’t particularly mind. It was kind of funny to watch Red getting all worked up over his little brother and friend being close. She was glad she had her mask, because otherwise she definitely would have given away the act by this point.
Robin, for his part, had been upping things more and more every time he saw her. She wasn’t sure whether this was because he knew that she knew or because he was testing the limits of what he could do without her saying anything.
Red looked like he was at his wit’s end with Robin held out a hand for Marinette right before crossing a street. She took it, which was when he finally snapped:
“He’s twelve, not five!”
She pulled her face into a mock frown. “Are you saying that twelve-year-olds should get hit by cars, Red?”
Red Robin sputtered.
“Miss Ladybug, why is he so mean to me?” Robin asked with wide eyes. She could see the corner of his lips twitching in an effort not to smile.
She winked. His eyes narrowed just slightly then he widened them back to their wide-eyed sadness.
“I don’t know, sweetie. He’s just a meanie, I guess.”
Red Robin threw his hands up in either anger or defeat. It didn’t really matter which one it was, they counted it as a win.

Tim wasn’t surprised to walk into the Batcave one day and see Marinette’s face on the Batcomputer. The only thing he didn’t know was whether she was up there because they had figured out her identity or because Tim had started hanging out with her as a civilian.
He took a long sip of his coffee as he considered this, then he trudged over. Might as well find out.
“Hey guys,” he announced his presence.
He watched Duke out of the corner of his eyes. Duke was the newest of them, he could usually count on him to have more pronounced reactions.
Duke didn’t seem all that awkward. So it must have been them finding out her identity.
Tim sidled up beside them. “Sure that’s her?”
Bruce, never one for using his words when he didn’t have to, held up a small container of blood.
He hummed his understanding and intended for that to be the end of the conversation… but it was getting increasingly hard to ignore the eyes boreing into the side of his head. Tim fought to keep a straight face and unclench his jaw and ignore the stupid ‘d-d-don’t be suspicious’ song playing in his head.
And then Cass tapped him on the shoulder and he cursed quietly.
“Fine. Fine. I knew. Happy?”
Cass was not. She narrowed her eyes at him.
“I saw her run into an alleyway and I followed -- obviously, it’s Gotham and alleyways are dangerous -- and she transformed right in front of me.”
She nodded and let it go.
Bruce, however, did not.
“You knew her identity and didn’t think to tell us?”
“I thought to tell you, I just didn’t,” he said with a cheeky grin.
Ah. The Disappointed Dad Stare. He had certainly not missed that.
His grin melted into an awkward smile. “It felt weird to reveal her. She clearly cares about her identity since she hasn’t told us herself yet, I figured I’d respect that as long as I could.”
“... you weren’t making progress on her identity on purpose. God, that makes so much more sense,” muttered Steph.
He shrugged. “Easy to avoid someone’s identity when you know who it is.”
Bruce was still looking at him disapprovingly.
“Don’t worry, I have contingencies,” Tim said.
His father relaxed, finally. He motioned for him to go on.
“Well, a few need confirmation. I still don’t know if her yoyo can be cut and it’s hard to tell if other people can unzip her hood or not. But if the hood is open then The Flash or Superman can easily get the earrings from her -- beyond those she’d just a normal person with some fighting skills, same contingencies as The Arrows or any of us. If not then Green Lantern can probably neutralize her.”
Bruce nodded.
The other kids looked mildly concerned.
“Wait, he has contingencies for us?” Duke said.
Bruce was back to looking dismayed. Tim showed them all where their files were (he wouldn’t hack them for them, obviously, he didn’t want to break the news of exactly how messed up Bruce’s contingencies were). He could practically see all the sweat beading itself on his forehead beneath his cowl.
(Tim hid his smile. He’d finally gotten revenge for the time he’d made him stay inside after The Chloroform Incident. And revenge was sweet.)
… it wasn’t until he started seeing his siblings on the rooftop across from Marinette’s apartment that he thought that, maybe, he should have gotten them into their files. It definitely would have distracted them from the Marinette Is Ladybug situation.
At least Cass trusted Marinette -- she would have slipped up and showed her intentions at least once by now -- and therefore wasn’t likely to come by. Cass would be the one to figure out that Tim coming up to the roof was more than him just checking on his siblings.
The first person that came by was Damian. Fair enough, he’d been around Marinette the shortest amount of time and what little friendship they had was based on his lies.
Now, the youngest sibling sat, cross-legged on the rooftop. He was sketching in his sketchbook between quick glances over at Marinette. He looked up when Tim pulled himself over the side and squinted at him.
“Drake.”
“Dami,” Tim greeted, because it always annoyed his younger brother when he used the nickname. “Having fun spying on Marinette?”
Damian was silent for a few moments before clicking his tongue. “She needs to close her blinds more often.”
“Aw, do you care about her?” Tim teased, reaching over to ruffle his brother’s hair.
He pushed his hand away. “She’s a Gothamite and is therefore under our protection.”
Tim snickered and shook his head, taking a seat beside him on the rooftop. “We can tell Duke about it once everyone else has had their chance at checking her out. He’s the only one that can get away with asking her to close it.”
Damian nodded firmly.
Tim hid the fond smile on his face by diverting his brother’s attention: “So, what’re you sketching?”
Damian’s eyes lit up.
The next person to drop by was Bruce himself. He was sitting there, in all black despite the fact that it was less useful during the day, with full spy equipment.
Tim dropped down beside him and was offered a set of headphones. The two of them stayed there in silence for a long time, listening to Marinette going about her day. She was currently cooking something and singing along to a song:
“I always feel like... somebOdy’s watching meeEe… andIhavenoprivacy~.”
Tim was choosing to ignore the song choice in favor of giggling about her inability to hit the notes. He could feel Bruce watching him out of the corner of his eyes, but he didn’t say anything and neither did Tim.
Next was Steph.
Steph raised her eyebrows at Tim when she saw him.
“Come here often?” She asked in a tone that was only half-joking.
“Only recently,” he lied. “Trying to figure out if any of you trust my judgement.”
“Doubtful.”
“Yeah, Duke is my last hope.”
She snickered and shook her head. “To be fair, you’re whipped. You could have been biased.”
“But I’m not.”
“But you’re not,” she conceded, then turned her gaze back on Marinette. “She’s cute. I approve.”
“Glad to know you trust her.”
“I wasn’t talking about it like that and you know it,” Steph said with a wink.
Tim blushed and pushed her face away. “You’re the worst.”

Marinette was having a little difficulty figuring out the not-quite-a-language that the bats spoke with her. She wanted to learn it because she cared about Black Bat and, though she could use ASL, it was clear that she wasn’t comfortable with any particular language… but wow was it hard to learn a language when there wasn’t any actual language involved.
Thankfully, Signal had said he would teach her since he had learned it the most recently and therefore might have an easier time teaching it.
Now, it was just after they had finished their lessons for the day and the two of them were relaxing together between their patrols. He had his head in her lap as they both scrolled through Twitter, occasionally laughing and showing each other the dumb things that the other bats had supposedly done. Her favorite so far was the picture someone had discreetly taken of Robin while he was petting their dog.
And then Signal suddenly sat up straight, eyes so wide beneath his domino that she swore that the lenses were going to pop out.
“Uh --?”
“We need to go,” he said.
She felt his hand wrap around her wrist and now she was being dragged somewhere else --.
There was a rush of air and next thing she knew she was being held just barely off the ground.
She blinked all the dryness out of her eyes and then looked up to see that her captor was none other than Superman himself. He had grabbed both of them and taken them to where the Batcomputer was, holding her by her hood and Signal by the back of his shirt. He looked angry, but not particularly at her. She followed his gaze to where Batman was sitting in his Batchair.
“B --.”
“Batman,” said Batman sternly.
Oh, so Superman got to know his secret identity and she didn’t?
(She was ignoring the fact that Batman’s civilian name started with a B.)
“Batman, what do I have here?”
“Two children?”
“Two. Metas.”
“Technically, Ladybug isn’t a meta. Her powers were given to her by a god that lives in her earrings,” Batman informed him.
Marinette tried not to smile too much. Look at how much he had grown. He was using her excuses now.
Superman’s eyes narrowed. She’d say something about how ‘if looks could kill, Batman would be dead’... but, considering the fact that Superman could kill someone with a single look, it didn’t really work.
“And is the god allowed in Gotham?”
Batman didn’t have an excuse for that one. He just grunted a specific grunt which Marinette had learned meant: “What’s your point?”
Superman also knew this specific grunt, apparently. “My point is that the last time I was in Gotham you put kryptonite in my coffee! You said no metas, and we listened, but now you have two!”
“They’re my kids.”
Marinette blinked. “News to me.”
Signal tried to reach across Superman to punch her arm. Superman was a very wide not-man, so he came up short.
“Do you want to be kicked out of Gotham?”
“Guess I’ve always wanted family here,” she said quickly.
Superman squinted at them for a long time before, finally, dropping them.
“You’re lifting your no meta rule.”
“No --.”
“Yes. If even you’re not going to listen to it, neither should we.”
Batman didn’t seem happy. Superman didn’t seem to care. Probably because he was a good head taller and had far more superpowers than Batman did.
Superman left soon after.
Marinette knew it wasn’t the time, because Batman was back to his Batbrooding, but she couldn’t help the grin slowly spreading across her face.
“So, Dad, can I have the new Xbox for Christmas?”

Duke had visited Marinette. Tim hadn’t seen him visit, but he definitely had because Marinette had closed her blinds and they hadn’t been open in days. She was still in Gotham, though, she had gone on patrols and, as far as he could tell, she didn’t have any places in Gotham in her name. She had to still be in the apartment, so Duke must have visited as Signal and told her to close them.
And he should have been happy about this. It was far safer that way. The less people knew that there was a woman living alone in that apartment the better.
… but he couldn’t help but be concerned.
The blinds being closed was his best indication of when she was about to leave or currently not home. He didn’t like that he no longer had a way of figuring that out. How was he supposed to watch over her while she was getting groceries if he never knew when she was going?
He gives her a necklace with a tracker in it the next time he sees her as Tim.
She raised her eyebrows at the box he was holding out to her. “Don’t you think it’s a little early to propose?” She joked, but he could hear the slight wariness bleeding into her tone.
He grins easily. “It’s just to thank you for the outfit you’re making me.”
“You pay me,” she said. “That’s thanks enough for me.”
“Maybe I just feel a little bad about guilting you into making it in the first place.”
She hesitates, but he could see the shiny red gem inlaid in it winning her over. It doesn’t matter that she wasn’t a gold digger, she was a fashion designer and he had purposefully chosen a common gem color so she’d be more inclined to wear it more often. It worked with a lot of outfits and it came from someone she -- hopefully -- considered a friend? There was little reason to say no.
As expected, she gave in.
She turned around and he carefully clasped it behind her neck. He pressed a tiny kiss to the back of her head.
When she turned back around her face was redder than the gem. He couldn’t help but smile.
“Ready to go?”
She nodded, taking his hand and allowing him to pull her along to the newest attraction.

Marinette fell back on her bed with a huff.
“Tikkiiiiiiiii,” she complained.
The kwami slipped out of her purse and came up to float above her face. “Did you enjoy your date?”
“It wasn’t --!”
Tikki laughed at her dismay. Because Tikki sucked.
She dropped the pillow back beside herself and curled up in what had used to be Tim’s jacket (she wasn’t joking when she’d taken it, he was never getting it back).
“Tim better be Red Robin. I’m not doing the whole ‘two crushes at once’ thing again.”

You know, there were actually times where Tim felt bad about chipping Marinette. He wasn’t out of it enough to think that it wasn’t messed up, he knew that there was a reason he didn’t want the other bats to know.
And he knew that, if he had to keep his habits from fellow bats, his habits had to be pretty bad. Every single one of them had a tendency to watch over their loved ones from time to time, it just came with the territory of having friends that are a) vigilantes/heroes/Rogues, b) stupid enough to live in Gotham, or c) an unfortunate mix of both. And, really, when you have the entire world at your fingertips it’s hard not to cross a few lines from time to time.
But Tim couldn’t bring himself to care about that line when she didn’t seem to care about her own safety.
She left the house constantly. Tim was beginning to suspect that she’d had her blinds open so often in order to feel closer to people rather than because she liked sunning herself. This would be fine… if she wasn’t leaving as a civilian. Marinette cared about her secret identity almost as much as Bruce did, so he knew that she probably wouldn’t try too hard to escape attackers for fear of them finding out who she was through her very particular fighting style. The bats had drilled her on the best ways to deal with being held at gunpoint and everything, but not every criminal was completely predictable. Bruce’s parents were a prime example of that.
She also had a tendency to take food without checking to see if it was laced. She did it especially when Tim handed her food and, while he liked that she trusted him, he didn’t love that she was as trusting of him as she was.
Marinette had trouble detecting when people were watching her, too. He figured it was just a byproduct of having most of the stuff she did as Ladybug filmed by tv crews and random civilians… but understanding why she was like that didn’t make him any less concerned about it.
Most damning, however, was how she dealt with catcalling.
Tim never felt a need to intervene when any of his siblings got catcalled on the job. He could trust them to tell whoever it was to stop with however much politeness was correct for the situation (usually not that much).
(The only exception was Damian because, unlike everyone else, Damian was still very obviously a minor. And even then the temptation to beat them up was mostly sated by the fact that Damian knew far more nonlethal ways to hurt them than he did.)
But the few times Marinette had gotten catcalled in front of him she… had just very politely asked them not to say that? And, when they didn’t stop, she had just sat there in her discomfort until they were done?
And Tim had done nothing but watch in stunned silence the first few times. It hadn’t been on purpose, he had just… not been expecting it. She usually acted far more confident, usually had some sort of retort on her tongue, why was this any different?
He didn’t know. Both he and Steph had tried to ask but she shut down both times and they didn’t want her to be more upset than she already was so they’d stopped trying.
The bats just silently agreed to check in on her through comms when she was quiet for too long and, if she didn’t respond, head towards her last known location and start looking.
So, yeah, his paranoia wasn’t completely unfounded.

Marinette blinked at the envelope Black Bat had handed her.
She turned it over in her hands, wondering if it was some kind of test, but that wasn’t really as much of a Black Bat thing as it was a Batman or Red Robin thing. So, she figured it probably wasn’t dangerous. She still found herself examining it. It was done in an old style, with a rough and slightly yellowed paper, a red wax seal with a pointy hat emblem she didn’t recognize, and ‘Ladybug’ written across the front in gorgeous calligraphy.
“Uh…?”
Black Bat only smiled at her and made a motion to open it.
Marinette hesitantly opened the letter and pulled out more weird paper. It was splattered with something that looked suspiciously like dried blood. In the same elegant script that had decorated the front, it read:
Your spirit has been summoned to my annual Halloween Party!
Dress to kill!
This was followed by a bunch of directions and timings and stuff about RSVP-ing.
Marinette looked at Black Bat, somehow even more confused than she had been before.
Thankfully, Red Robin chose that moment to run down the stairs, waving his invitation excitedly.
He stopped short when he saw Marinette already holding her invitation and huffed, sending Black Bat a halfhearted glare. “I wanted to tell her.”
Black Bat’s smile morphed into a smirk.
“Rude,” Red said. Then, he turned to Marinette. “We got invited to his Halloween Party!”
“Yeah… whose Halloween Party, exactly?”
“Scarecrow’s, of course!”

12: Favourite character to write about this year
Stephanie Brown, easy. She's my spirit animal, so I might be doing a touch of projecting, but I honestly don't care. She's just pure chaos in the best way. Some of my favourite lines that I've written are for her. Such as:
"What's up bitches? I brought donuts!"
"My waffles await!"
"FEAR ME!"
"Welcome to Steph’s Glitter Bomb Palace, Where Snitches get Stitches™! So don’t tell Bruce or I’ll sic Jason on you."
She's also the character I've gotten the most comments on. People really seen to enjoy how I write her!
A close second would be Duke Thomas. Bliss, a fic I wrote for the 2020 Duke Week, was one of my favourites! Or maybe Damian? His dialogue just comes easy to me.

I have wanted to read a DCU/MCU crossover for a VERY long time. This story is such a delight. Your characterisation (and for me an introduction to The Signal) was fascinating in the extreme. I loved the game playing and the fact that I could watch (open-mouthed) as Bruce Wayne enjoyed childlike fun with his children and Alfred(!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) was the cherry on top of the icing on top of the cake. I look forward to your updates in a way that you wouldn't believe.

Birdflash in the JL/JLU universe (based off that one hexagon by @novaviis ! Super fun!). The league is inviting potential members to the Watchtower one day. Except Wally wasn't there during the choosing of said members. So he's completely shocked when his husband Nightwing shows up. They have to act like they don't know each other, which basically involves Dick flirting his butt off with Wally, Wally trying desperately to remain professional, Bruce digging in the corner, the rest of the League in varying degrees of disapproval and confusion (at least a couple have seen Wally's wedding ring. So that adds a while 'nother layer).
Young Justice soulmate au. Dick, and eventually everyone else, knows that Wally is his soulmate. Wally is oblivious. Lots of pining and angst in this one. Slow burn to an extent (depends on how long I make it). But definitely a happy fluffy ending in sight!
Batfam Meets Young Justice
THIS fic.
Duke gets yeeted into the YJ universe, and promptly passes out. He wakes up in the Watchtower, and breaks out of the confinement the Team has set up for him. Pulls shenanigans (some unwittingly) and used his powers. The Team and JL are confused, and panicking. Because this guy keeps muttering things about the Batfam. And he has a bat on his chest.
The Team break into some ancient temple after getting info on a new Supervillian plot. They find purple clothed woman draped across a throne. She talks, and they panic, as she knows all their secret identities. The only one who isn't, is Tim. He looks bored. Alternatively: Steph needs Tim's credit card to take his sister out on a date, and absolutely refuses to text.
While the Team is on a mission to stop Lady Shiva, a dimensional portal opens up and spits out a strange Robin (Damian) and what seemed to be a female Batman (Cass as Black Bat). This new dynamic due promptly defeats Lady Shiva and all the goons. The Team is freaked out, and 'apprehends' the dimensional anomalies, bringing them back to the Watchtower. Where the due promptly break and and start chaos. Featuring "Toxic" by Britney Spears. I will not explain why.
The Watchtower gets a sudden emergency message from the Batcave. They accept, to find a stranger calling himself Signal panicking about Robin being missing. They all look at Tim, who ignores them, and says that he doesn't know where Robin is. Some naming shenanigans occur.
(Not sure if this fits here, oh well) Set in Season One, Bruce is tired of Clark's attitude towards Superboy, and adopts the clone himself. Not sure how far this'll go, but at least goes through Dick's time as Robin. (Based on THIS Tumblr post)
(Also iffy on placement) a continuation of one (not sure which? Probably Damian as older) Reverse Robins fics. It's a retelling of Season One of YJ, with Dick as Robin. Nightwing (Damian) feels protective of his brother, and so takes on the role Black Canary had in the show, training the Team. But as time goes on, he ends up being more of a big brother to the group. Cameos from the rest of the Batfam as well! And an Identity Reveal (including finding out Dick and Dami are brothers) at the end!
Batfam Meets the Justice League
Cass takes over being Batman for a bit, because Bruce was an idiot and broke his leg. This happens to line up with when the Justice League reach out to the Dark Knight, in order to extend an invitation to the league. They eventually meet Bruce as Batman, and are confused as to why he is so tall. And male.

Lian accidentally reveals her three parents' relationship by calling Bruce 'grandpa' over dinner.
Museum Heist
THIS fic
Operation: Seduce Nightwing. Based on a post for an ATLA ot3, Wally and Artemis realise silumaneously “Hey, we kinda have the hots for Dick” and decide together to see if he likes them back. Which involves a heck ton of over the top flirting, and shenanigans. The Team is sighing on the sidelines at their idiocy. Dick is internally combusting and thinking “Do they like me back? I’’m not sure.” 
5 times Dick and Wally fought over being the middle spoon, and one time Artemis had had enough.
Set in Season 3 (but ignores some canon), Bart is kidnapped by some mad scientist obsessed with the Speed Force. The Team mobilizes, and gets Bart back from the evil base. But when they get there, they find Wally West freed from the Speed Force. He and Artemis reunite, and everyone is happy. They prepare to leave. Out on Allen Street, it’s 7 in the Morning

Chapter 3: Squall
Did they get rid of her?
He dreads to think of it, but there’s nothing else he seems to be able to pick out from what information he gathers. Three years after he died, Cass (who hated killing, would never do it even for the worst of the worst) had nearly murdered the Joker. She almost finished the job until Batman saved the madman and subdued her. After that,
Nothing.
Not a single report on Batgirl. Nor a photo of Cassandra Todd. Only two traces he could find. One a significantly sullen Wonder Woman (he and Cass had liked her, and she, them). The other an interview of Bruce, repeating that she’d gone to ‘travel the world’.
Jason knows a lie when he hears one.
“It’s – It’s like she just disappeared,” He’s gripping his head, rocking back and forth while Rose smooths out his hair. “He cut her out of the family and then what?”
He remembers a promise, a vow Bruce had made with him. It had meant the world to Jason.
Bruce had broken that vow. Torn it apart and stomped all over it.
Rose watches him as he breaks down with no judgement in her gaze, just holds him close as his world crumbles around him again.

There’s a child in Nandra Parbat, and Jason has to train him.
“This is my son, Damian,” Talia had said to him, showing him some new kid as if he hadn’t just killed three assassins in the space of a minute. He would have said as much if she didn’t immediately order him to be the kid’s new teacher.
Looking at him now, all Jason can see is a small girl with a crooked smile mouthing his name. He blinks, and he’s met with a scowl and sapphire eyes (eyes just like Br-).
“Mother has requested you to be my instructor,” The kid repeats and lord, his voice is nasal. Jason chooses to stare at the kid, who fidgets. If he looks close enough, he could swear Damian’s scowl looks almost precisely like-.
“Is he mute, Mother? I do not see how an invalid could assist me,” He can tell by the way Rose’s head shoots up and glares at Damian whose side she would choose if this escalates. A flare of anger rises in Jason’s chest; his eyes start to flash a sharp emerald. Still, he pushes it down and diverts it to strengthening his stare, dominating the room.
He can’t read people the same way Cass can, but Jason could swear that the kid’s composure cracks at his uncertainty.
“Wanna repeat that for me?” Jason’s voice is low and even. He can tell the kid recognises the threat in his tone. To his credit, Damian hesitates before he honest to god tts, like every single other haughty, uptight rich boy.
“Regardless, habibi, you will treat your new instructors with respect,” Talia speaks, gesturing to him and Rose. “The quality of your instructors was incredibly subpar, and you have them to blame for killing the previous masters beforehand.”
“I do not think that a lowly thug and his harlot-,” Jason’s arm shoots out in an instant, clasping his hand over Damian’s mouth and clenching. Indignant fury flares in the boy’s eyes as Damian tries to slap Jason away. It does nothing, unsurprisingly.
“So long as you are under my tutelage, you will never speak that way to any woman. That is no way to speak to anyone, regardless of what they do for a living,” Somehow, the kid actually listens, the flinty look in his eye lessening somewhat. “I bet your own mother had to pull a fuck ton of strings just to make sure this meeting even happened in the first place.”
Jason glances up to Talia, expecting a reprimand. What surprises him is how genuine the approval she emits is. It hits him that he has literally confirmed to training Damian. He coughs.
“You should know,” Talia pipes up. “His full name is Damian Wayne-Al Ghul.”
Jason stares at the ceiling and curses the rain as it tap-dances with the universe, mocking him.
“All right, then, I’ll go to hell.”

Cassandra shakes herself from the nerves and rings the doorbell. The last time she had been here, she had kissed Alfred on the cheek and let him drive her all the way to the airport. That was only two months ago. Two months away from Gotham, away from Batgirl, away from-.
Bruce. He’s standing in the foyer, his gaze cold, but his body… his body seems unsure. She doesn’t know what to make of it. She half expects him to turn her away, but he moves to the side. He opens his mouth.
“Cassandra!” Steph darts from behind Bruce’s body, all flailing limbs and mismatched socks. “You’re here!”
“Yes.”
The girl grins, periwinkle eyes dazzling (They’re from the same cloth, just not the proper stitching) as she drags Cassandra away.
“So… how’s life in Hong Kong?”
“Peachy,” Cass answers honestly.
“Think of any names for your new identity?” Steph gesticulates to nothing, but her body language is focused on questions. So, she doesn’t give the girl any. They walk a little more until Steph decides to fill in the silence again.
“Tim’s dad found out about the vigilante business,” Cass nods as Steph talks. “Wants him to quit being Robin and Bruce doesn’t seem to know what to do about it.”
“His problem.”
“Well, duh. It’s just that….” Steph rubs her arm shyly, the same way she always does when she’s afraid of what she will say next. “When I was growing up, with my villain dad and addict Mom, I always imagined that Batman and Robin would save me. I’m here now, and….”
“You want to be Robin.” Cassandra deadpans, even as Steph whirls to gape at her. Really, it’s not like she wasn’t obvious. “Why not go for it?”
Silence for a moment. “Because I’m afraid.”
Cassandra looks at the blonde sharply. Stephanie Brown? Intimidated-by-Batman-and-joined-vigilantism-anyway Stephanie Brown was afraid? She doesn’t know what to think. That is until the dots connect in her head.
“You’re afraid that you won’t be able to help as much as you want to,” Steph scuffs the carpet glumly.
“With Mr. Anal-retentiveness-to-the-9’s? Yeah, that’d probably happen,” Steph sound so defeated and desperate that Cass curses because apparently, fate chose now to be when Steph is truly like Jason.
“Then don’t wear it,” Steph’s scuffing gets a little stronger. “I, for one, think you’d be a really good Batgirl.”
Steph makes an incredible impression as a fish and stares at Cass, barely wheezing as she gawks. “But Bruce -.”
“Bruce doesn’t have autonomy over Batgirl,” Cass smiles sweetly, echoing Barbara. “It’s your uniform now, and no one can take that from you but yourself.”
Her friend squeals loudly and squeezes Cass, gushing her gratitude over and over. Cass hugs her back, pretending it’s Jay she’s holding in her arms, giving the assurance of family she failed to keep.

He’s only trained with Damian for a few months, yet he’s seen more than he really should from the boy. His younger brother (the kid’s only a child, it doesn’t matter what Jason’s previous misgivings are) has been raised in the League of Assassins since birth. He can already use a sword with deadly efficiency at eleven years old. His attitude's as ruthless and condescending as every other assassin in the compound.
However, what is an exploitable weakness for Damian is the fact he’s only just started puberty. Most easily demonstrated when Rose makes a suggestive pose before tackling the boy and pinning him in place. Jason whistles because he’s fond of her, an asshole like that. Rose flips the bird at Jason and sticks out her tongue, now lounging casually on Damian’s squirming body.
It’s cute, the scene, but Jason knows how wrong it is. As long as Damian is with the League of Assassins, he won’t live normally. To find his own love, his own family. Even as the child wrestles with Rose and yells at him to help, it won’t ever be enough.
He’s not projecting.
He’s not.
He’s going to concoct a plan.

Ravi, Damian’s caretaker, has that air about him that Jason has only ever seen come from Alfred. So, he guesses trusting Ravi with this is more than okay. The man may be blind, but with him, they manage to smuggle Damian through the channels of the League, avoiding everyone who could threaten their goal.
“If I may ask, Mister Todd,” Ravi says as they reach the last legs. Jason nods. “Why are you doing this? To what gain is rescuing this child for you?”
“I don’t do this because I want to gain something,” Jason replies immediately. “No child deserves to grow up in this place. He deserves to have as good a childhood as he can get.”
Ravi stares patiently, hearing what’s unsaid.
“Sound reasoning,” Talia’s voice echoes around them. Everyone tenses. The woman steps out from behind the pillar ahead of them, alone. “And where, may a mother ask, are you taking my son?”
The woman’s voice lacks her usual veneer, sounding so genuinely earnest that he can’t help but blurt out: “Gotham.”
“Gotham,” Talia repeats, her forehead pinched. “With him?” With Batman? Jason bristles. “Might I remind you; he left your death unavenged and replaced you in mere months.”
“Fuck that,” Jason snarls. Ever since he came out of the Pit, madness clings to the edges of his mind whenever he thinks of how Bruce replaced him. This time, it only flickers. “What I want doesn’t matter when Damian needs his father figure. I’m – I’m not stopping him from having that.”
“So, you no longer wish to kill him,” Talia states. He sighs.
“I guess not,” Jason frowns, considering her presence. “Want to take him to Bruce?”
If Talia is surprised, she doesn’t show it, only beckoning for Damian to follow her. As the kid moves, Jason realises this might be the last time he’ll see Damian on the same side of the fence. He grabs the kid’s shoulder, who oddly doesn’t resist.
“Look, Damian,” Jason starts as his younger brother stares up at him. “Doing right is right, and wrong is wrong. A body ain’t got no business doing wrong when he ain’t ignorant and knows better.
“Living with your father, it’s rules like that he follows like gospel. He’ll love you; I know he will, but with him it’s always on the condition that you adhere to his principles. Can you promise something for me?”
Damian nods, soaking every word in.
“I need you to keep an open mind with what he says, but I don’t want you to follow them like gospel the way he does. You’re more than his soldier, you’re my brother, you’re his son.”
The kid nods again, shifting on his feet.
“And – And look after yourself, okay? And -,” The words that come out of his mouth feel like hot coals, but he has to say them. “And if somehow Cass is there, can you look after her too? For me?”
“Of course,” Damian answers softly before throwing his arms around Jason’s waist. “I will find your ukht, ahki, and make sure she is well cared for.”
Jason smiles. It's a broken, weary-looking thing.
“And Todd?” Jason raises his eyebrows. “You should confess to Wilson about your ridiculous affection. It is sickening to watch you two dancing around one another every lesson.”
Jason can’t help it; he laughs and lets his little brother go, his tears like raindrops.

Cass leaves the fresh hydrangeas on the headstone. It stares back at her, its date (four years) seeming to mock her from beyond the grave. Literally, Jay says in her head, which has her biting back the laugh that builds in her throat.
Bruce’s son had come in a few days ago, obviously an assassin child, yet he’s still… subdued, somehow. She knows the boy is there, at her brother’s grave, and that he follows her all the way to the manor. Even then, Cassandra lets it go. He probably took all his cues from Bruce anyway.
It’s when she’s sitting at the new memorial for Jason, a small statue of an apple with a plaque underneath, that Damian approaches her.
“Cain.”
“It’s Todd.”
Something crosses the boy’s face. She can’t tell what it is.
“Todd,” Damian says, his eyebrows pinching like a mini Bruce. “What is this?”
“It’s Jason’s memorial,” Cassandra traces the words on the plaque, a quote, one whose meaning she had struggled with a lifetime ago. She gestures to the book in her hands. “I read to it, every time I’m here.”
Damian looks like he’s about to say something about that, but he withholds it. Instead, he sits down with her, his head upturned, not unlike a bird.
“What was he like?” The boy asks, the words seeming to grit out his teeth.
“He was amazing, and we loved him so much,” Dick speaks up, out of nowhere, cutting Cass off before she can even begin. “I had a few issues with him, but I promise that I’ll be as good a brother to you as he was to us.”
Cassandra snorts, and Dick’s smile falls off his face.
“Cassandra, come on, I was just-.”
“You weren’t even a good brother to me or – or him.” She says quietly, because why is he even speaking now? “Why are you trying now? Why not before?”
“Like I said, I had a lot of issues with -.”
“I don’t care, Dickface.” Does it hurt to say Jason’s old nickname for the boy? Yes. Does she draw satisfaction at how much he flinches? Also, yes.
Barbara chooses then to speak up.
“I don’t think that’s fair for you to say, Cass.”
She freezes. The fact that even Damian, who hardly knows her, does the same with the others means they know how huge an error they’ve made.
“Don’t call me that,” Cassandra snaps, voice desolate and lethal, thoughts squalling and refusing to calm down even as she buries her head in the book in her hands.
Barbara sighs and calls Dick away to discuss the mysterious hacker that’s been pulling information from them. Damian, seeming to recognise her desire to be alone, follows him. Good. Cassandra’s mind falls in and out of a lull as her eyes try to refocus. So, she caresses the edge of the apple reverently. In its reflection, tears run down her cheeks. She can’t feel them.

“The information breaches just keep searching for Batgirl,” Barbara says, snapping Cassandra from her stupor. She pulls up a list; every entry confirms Barbara’s statements. Every entry, that is, except for one that catches her eye. The text flashes brightly, making her head spin, and she can’t look away because printed in the bright neon text is-.
There’s a memory, one she’s locked in the far recesses of her mind, where things like the Joker and David and all her other demons live. She remembers Faizul asking who her mother is.
David smirks, a savage thing he does whenever he’s about to order her to do something (murder, as it turned out, then) and says:
Sandra Wu-San | Lady Shiva
The words blare in her mind, bouncing round and round and blocking out all sounds in the cave. It certainly explains a lot; only Shiva can read the body like a novel. Plus, Cassandra isn’t sure that assassin skills are genetic but having two master assassins as biological parents should factor somewhere. It also opens a new avenue of thought. Why? Why did she give her up and never look back? Why did she leave her with her monster of a father? Cassandra craves needs answers, and she needs them now.
Staring up at the name printed on the screen, Jason once asked himself the same questions.
While the others discuss what to do, Cassandra has already listed Shiva’s last known locations and activities. They don’t notice she’s going to leave until she revs the engine of her bike. She sees them open their mouths, but over the sound of the motor, their voices fail to reach her.
All except, somehow, for Alfred and if there is anyone in this family Cass will listen to; it’s the one Jay loved the most.
“If you do pursue her, Miss Cassandra,” The butler has never been unkind to her, yet she can’t help but feel like he’s trying to keep her in place. “I am not sure if you will find what you are looking for.”
She leaves anyway, soaring underneath the tresses of Gotham as they settle around her, the mist obscuring everything but her path forward.

“Damian probably landed in Gotham last week,” Rose says casually. Too casually, she realises. Jace side-eyes her and snorts in response. Damn him and his ability to pick apart what she’s asking. Four years constantly in one another’s presence would do that to people with his life experience. Yet, as much as Jason can read her, she can’t say she can do the same for him.
Something about him seems fragile, like plaster covering a beautiful and distracting collage. Rose wants to dig past that plaster, through the collage and see the mind that is Jason Todd.
She has seen him at his highest and lowest points and always makes sure to stay by his side, as she does now. He’s her best friend; he might not know it, but he’s kept her sane (reassurances her father will not find her come to mind) just as much as she’s done for him.
“What do you think of the new Batgirl?” This time, she means to be conversational. When they stumbled across the profile of Cass’ successor, Jace had shaken his head and laid out half-heartedly into a punching bag.
“I don’t hate her, if that’s what you’re thinking,” That response was… not unexpected. But, when she raises her hickory eyes, Jason has his head raised to the sky. “I looked into her, and – and she’s like us.”
Oh.
“Girl’s from the Narrows. Didn’t live on the streets, but from her background, her home life definitely wasn’t that great growing up either.”
His hand is trembling, so Rose grabs it and tries to keep him steady with all the power in her.
“She’s going to do Batgirl proud,” Jason says shakily. “I think you’d agree.”
They stand there, leaning on each other, tranquillity settling around them as Jace lets his tears flow. It occurs to Rose that she never let his hand go. She doesn’t plan to. The feeling makes her feel warm inside, and as much as she wants to go further, she also doesn’t want to push her best friend away.
In the distance, the outline of a jet approaches the runway they’re on. It is time.
“You ready?”
“You wouldn’t believe me if I said yes.”
“Fair enough.”
“Hey,” Rose looks up at him, waiting for him to continue. “If anything goes wrong, I want you to stay out of sight of the others and get away from Gotham.”
Rose growls. “No way, there is no fucking way I’d leave you alone with them.” She steps closer, jabbing her finger on his chest. “I didn’t train with you for the past four years for it all to be thrown away just because Batman is an asshole. My dad’s just as bad, remember?
“You’re stuck with me no matter what Jace. Deal with it.”
He gives her a wry smirk that has her heart fluttering as much as her returning grin is sharp. Even as the plane touches down, she realises that he hasn't let her hand go, and neither has she.
In the next week, Red Hood and Ravager will carve their way through the deeper bowels of Gotham’s stomach, a bag of heads linking their iron fists.
For now, Rose breathes in the moist air as a drizzle begins.

Mad Dog, Cassandra muses, is a morbid reminder of what she might have become if she stayed with David. He doesn’t have her abilities, but he has more physical strength in spades; his movements are so strange, so unpredictable, that it’s not like it matters.
A deft swipe narrowly misses her throat, and Cassandra cuffs the man in the jaw with her knee, knocking him back.
She had definitely found Shiva. Tracked her all the way to some subset of the League of Assassins. The woman had only gazed coolly at her and set Mad Dog on her.
True to his name, the assassin growls and leaps at her, fury behind each of his strikes. Cassandra dodges one of these, the fist cratering the cement wall, and gets socked in the chest for her trouble. The force of the impact sends her flying metres away.
Getting up from the blow is a chore, and she can feel the agony her body is in, feels the blood run down her mouth as she rises. Her fist is shaking; her stance is uneven. Mad Dog notices, and he grins like David, drawing a jagged sword from his sheath and charges.
Cassandra darts past the assassin. She knows she can win this. Even though his movements are swift and deadly, she manages to outpace him. His sword strikes aim to draw blood as he swipes at her, but she’s still managed to weave her way around them, causing sparks to fly into the air. When he tries to hit her, she still uses his momentum against him and knocks him down.
Yet, Cassandra can feel herself getting slower now; her arms are still shaking. She dodges another strike, but it’s a feint, and Mad Dog grabs her by the hair and slams her onto the ground. Hazily, she watches his wicked grin widen as the assassin raises his arms and prepares his blade.
As Mad Dog is about to drive it into Cass’ chest, she thinks (This is it. It’s all over. It is time.) of a boy in an alleyway, an apple in his hand and a smile on his lips.
She closes her eyes and listens to the sprinkling outside.

“Do you think we were unfair to them?” Dick seems to ask to open air, but Bruce knows when his sons want a genuine response. “Like, that we didn’t give them enough credit for what they could do. And because of that, they’ve never had anyone but each other?”
Dick slumps. It looks so wrong on him that Bruce wraps his arms around him, especially careful (As a real father would. An insidious voice in his brain sneers). “Do you think, that if maybe we treated them so much better...” His boy is crying now, usually joyous lapis eyes cold and red-rimmed. “That they’d still be here?”
Bruce only grunts because not one of his answers is what Dick wants to hear.
On a slab of stone, the petals on the hydrangeas wilt, droplets dappling their edges.

Another Lovely Family
Summary: The Batfam get interesting visitors from another reality.
Ao3  This is part of my batfam Flufftober 2020
Note: I have no idea what this is. It just kinda spiraled out of control. But I hope you guys still like it.
Sorry for Barbara fans, she's kinda not here. I couldn't really find a way to put her in here.
Also, the Chinese folk creatures mentioned were the fox spirit aka the nine-tailed fox. They are depicted as being both a good omen or bad omen depending on the literature. The second one was a Huan Cat. Its pelt was said to contain medicine for certain illnesses and some believed they scared away bad luck.
Their patrol had been peaceful that night, and the whole family ended it in the cave, laughing and joking as they stripped out of their suits and weapons. Bruce was watching over them with his ever stoic gaze but Tim could spot the small smile on his face.
So, that was exactly when everything went to shit.
There was a sudden rumble that shook the cave, making everyone reach for the nearest support. A blinding flash and then a portal-like circle appeared at the top of the cave. Through it fell...Tim didn't know how to really describe the really spikey creature.
And then another larger creature fell through.
They were both scaly and covered in patches of clothing. They seemed to have some humanoid feature but they seemed to be a little twisted. There were horns in their heads, wings at their backs and Tim could tell that the little one's irises were silted, like a reptile's eyes.
Tim pulled out his staff, beside him Jason clicked off the safety of his gun, everyone around the cave also took up their weapons.
The bigger one didn't seem to be moving but the smaller, about four feet tall, started to flap its wings and dart around, making a whining and screeching sound but stayed close to the bigger body.
Dick tried to get closer but the little thing lashed out and cut his cheek. Jason instantly straightened his gun but Cassandra moved in front of them.
"Stop!" she ordered
Everyone stopped, even the little creature, though it kept up its whining and chattering, slowly flapping its wings.
"Cass what is it?" asked Bruce
"Damian," she said
It surprised them, but Tim noticed that the little creature stilled at the name.
Cass turned toward the small thing, holding her and up and moving slowly. The little thing slowly backed away but seemed to be calm.
"Damian," said Cass again
The small thing tilted its head to the side, as if curious.
"Your name," said Cass, "Damian,"
After a moment, the creature nodded and chattered softly.
"You understand me?" asked Cassandra
It nodded again.
"Cassandra," said Damian, "What are you-"
"Look," she said softly, "Look close,"
Tim followed her instructions and closely looked at the face of the little thing. At a closer peek, their features were more clear, the green eyes, high cheekbones, and dark hair- It was eerily similar to their Damian's.
"You know," said Stephanie, "I can kinda see it,"
Cassandra nodded and turned back to the other Damian.
"We have Damian too," said Cassandra, "We call you D, Okay?"
The other Damian waited a few moments and then nodded.
"Good," said Cass, and she pointed at the bigger body, "Family?"
D nodded again, this time chattering in what Tim thought might be distress.
"We help," said Cass, "Okay. Turn them over to see,"
D nodded one again.
Dick and Steph stepped forward to help her flip the person gently. Unlike D, the features of this one were more clearer.
"Talia," whispered Bruce
Tim had to agree. Long hair, the same lips, same structure under swirls of silver that matched her son. The horns were bigger and straighter than D's and her hands had claw-like nails but the resemblance to their world's Talia was there.
"Mother?" Cass asked D
D nodded vigorously and chattered, pointing at Talia's side.
"Hurt?" asked Cass
D once again pointed at the same place.
"Can we check?" asked Cass
Once she got affirmative, Cass gently moved the cloth there. Their skin was bare at the back and stomach area but there seemed to be some scale-like things covering the sides. The scales were twisted in one area, almost pushed into the skin, and covered in silvery goo.
"Blood?" asked Cass
D nodded.
"We need to figure out a way to help and I don't think we can do it alone," said Bruce, watching as Cass talked some more with D, "I certainly don't want to try in case we make it worse,"
"So?" asked Jason, "We could reach out to some allies but who would know about something like this?"
'Well," said Bruce, "I don't like the man, but Constantine has travelled to other realities, we could get a few trusted biologists in here to take look. We could call Zatanna and Manhunter to see if they can establish a line of communication with the child,"
"The child?" asked Damian
"Yes, Damian," said Bruce, "From his behaviour and the comparison to the fully grown mother, it is obvious that he is a child. Though I'm not sure about the 'he' part. They don't seem to be human,"
"Anyway," continued Bruce, "Make those calls. I'm going to go explain this to Alfred,"

"So what is this?" asked Dick
Constantine glance from the Talia on the table to little D sitting with Cassandra at the end of the bed.
"I've never seen anything like this before, mate," said Constantine, "But there are worlds out there where some of us normals humans are metas. I mean there was one where you were born under the sea. There are some realities where humans evolved differently. I dunno mate, I've never seen anything like it and since the little one isn't talking, can't know for sure,"
"And from the looks of it, the scales have gone into her skin, a stark contrast to the other scales that are standing and parallel to her body. I'm sure they need to be pulled out but I don't know how to do that since I can't know how her anatomy works or even which organ is which. Not to mention I don't know how to verify if she's coding or not. Right now, the only indication that she's alive is that her stomach seems to be moving up and down and there is air coming out of her nose indicating breathing,"
"We could put her in a magical coma," said Zatanna, "It would slow everything down, including any wound she has. It's is our best bet,"
D was listening to them and let out a soft chatter.
Cassandra turned to him, "Okay,"
He looked at Zatanna for a long moment and then nodded.
"Okay," said Zatanna, "Here goes,"

Once the spell was done, D came to sit by his mother and curled up on her good side. He stayed like that for the next several hours, ignoring any of Cass's attempts to interact with him.
Watching him made something in Jason's heart, reminded him of the many times he had curled up against his own mom, until the day he had woken up to the feel of her cold dead body.
Ignoring that train of thought, he focused on another issue from his alley days.
"He's been here almost twelve hours, right?" he asked Bruce, "He should have been given something to eat by now,"
"When we checked Talia, we noticed that her teeth resembled a carnivore's," said Bruce, "I asked Alfred to get some meat options, cooked and raw. But he's also making a vegetarian meal, just in case,"
"Good," said Jason, still watching the little one, "He's so small,"
"I know," said Bruce, "And we have no idea how to get them home,"
"Have you been able to get the Martians here yet?" asked Jason
"No. They're still not available and Zatanna couldn't do anything,"
"And that also only works if Damian knows how to get back. The only reason our Damian is this resourceful is that he was trained by the league. Who knows how this little guy was trained to what tech they have on their side,"
"I know it's a lot of variables," said Bruce, "But we have to take it one step at a time. First food,"
"Right," said Jason, going back to gazing at D.
Bruce stopped looking at the reports he was going through and turned toward Jason.
"Jay, are you alright?"
Jason startled.
"Yeah. Yeah. Just...you know. Reminded me of...yeah,"
Bruce glanced at D and nodded in understanding.
"Why don't you bring him the food down in a little bit?"
"Me?" asked Jason, pointing at himself, "Is that a good idea?"
"Why not?" said Bruce, standing up and gathering his papers, "You're good with kids and you're good with food,"
"But..."
"Come on, Jay," said Bruce, "It'll give Cass a break and you can explain to the little one about the different options,"
"If you're sure," said Jason
"Of course I am, Jay," said Bruce, "I'm gonna go check on our Damian,"
"Okay,"

Half an hour later, Jason came downstairs holding a tray. Cass looked at him and smiled, vacating her seat beside Talia's bed. She kissed his cheek before making her way up the stairs.
Jason sat down and put the tray on a nearby table.
"Hey, D," said Jason softly.
Damian stayed turned away from him but Jason saw his wing twitch.
"So, it's a little afternoon now, which mean that you should probably eat something,"
Another twitch.
"Now, I don't know how much you need to eat or what you even like but we guessed a bit and I have some things here that you can choose from,"
Damian didn't have any response this time.
"You know your mother doesn't need food right now, because of the magical coma. But she needs you. They say people in comas, especially magical comas, can still feel and hear the people around them. How are you supposed to be here for her if you don't eat, huh? Maybe just a little?"
There were a few moments of silence, but then Damian turned around. His eyes seemed tired and hurt and made Jason's heartache.
"We have a few options. Vege's, cooked beef, pork and chicken. Same thing but raw too. Which one would you like,"
D pointed to the cooked meats, specifically at the beef. Jason handed him the plate and he started eating it as finger food, leaving the utensils behind on the tray. It reminded Jason of how some League members would eat.
There were a few minutes of silence and suddenly Jason had no idea why Bruce had sent him down, Dick was much better at these things.
Then he spotted a book sitting on his desk.
A little Princess.
"Hey," said Jason, "You know my dad would read to me whenever I was sick or injured and sometimes just because. Do you mind if I read something to you and your mother,"
D looked up and tilted his head sideways, a gesture they had come realize meant he was curious.
"Just a second," he said, getting up to get the book.
Jason came back and sat down, opening the book to its first page.
"Alright, Kiddo," said Jason, "Let's tell you the story of Sara Crewe,"

When Dick made his way down to the cave, it was with a tray of tea for Jason, a tradition that Alfred had brought to the family. D was still curled up against his mother and Jason seemed to be reading him Little Women. A copy of A Little Princess was sitting close by.
"Hey," whispered Dick as he came down, sitting the tray on a table, "How's it going,"
Damian chattered softly and Jason smiled, "D and I have been discussing characters,"
Dick smiled, "That's great guys. I brought you tea, Jay,"
"Thanks," said Jason, "I'll drink and read,"
Dick nodded and turned toward D.
"Hey, so I love listening to Jason too. Do you mind if I sit with you?"
D looked at him for a moment but the scooted a little, making his intention obvious. Carefully Dick sat himself down on the bed. the beds were big enough but Dick was still careful as to not touch Talia.
D seemed to have no such reservations and leaned against Dick's side. Jason raised his eyebrows at the action but kept reading. Eventually, soft snores started to emit from the little one and Dick looked over to see his eyes closed.
"I think he's asleep," whispered Dick
Jason nodded and closed the book, putting it away.
"Poor guy," murmured Dick, "In a world so different from his own,"
"Yeah," said Jason, "Seems to like you though,"
Dick smiled, "He didn't seem to hate you either, Jay,"
"Yeah," murmured Jason, "Do you think he has his own versions of us too. I mean the way he looks, his dad is probably their version of Bruce Wayne, right? Think the man adopted a slue of kids over there too,"
"I dunno," said Dick, "Maybe,"
Just the, D let out a small snort and twitched his wings.
"He's kinda adorable isn't he?" said Jason
"Yeah," said Dick, gently smoothing down D's hair, "I just hope we can get him home. And help his mom,"
"How's Dames taking it?" asked Jason
"He's alright but I know something's bugging him," said Dick, "But he seems more concerned about something regarding this little one than about any threat to him or to the family so that's some progress I guess,"
"Definitely progress," said Jason and then frowned, "What's the concern though?"
"No idea," said Dick, "Maybe he's just showing the inherent kid mentality, ya know, worrying about other small people,"
Jason snorted, "Yeah. Maybe,"

Half the bats ended up staying back from the patrol that day. Neither Jason nor Cass wanted to leave their guest and Tim stayed with them. D had been given dinner and seemed content to lay with his mom. Seeing this, Cass and Jason had taken to the sparring mats and Tim had started his work on the latest security update of the cave.
Tim was deep into it when he felt someone approach him. He turned to find D curiosity looking at the screen.
"Hey, Kiddo," said Tim, "Need something?"
D chattered and pointed at the screen, head tilted to the side.
"You want to know what I'm doing?" asked Tim
D chattered and nodded.
"Well," said Tim, "I'm trying to make our home safer for us. See these, here? This is the pattern for silent arms but Jason broke through them the other day just to prove a point to Bruce so now we're updating them. It usually ends up being my job but I don't mind. I like helping to keep my family safe,"
D started chattering excitedly, pointing at the screen, then at Tim and then at his wings. It took his doing it a few times for Tim to understand what he was trying to say.
"Are you saying that you have a Timothy too? And that he makes your home safe?"
D nodded with a huge smile on his face, excitedly flapping his wings.
"So you do have your own versions of us. Dick and Jason were wondering if your dad had adopted more kids too,"
D got quiet at that and Tim had no problem recognizing the sad and faraway look in his eyes.
"You must really miss them," he said softly
D chattered softly and nodded with his eyes down.
"I wish we could find a way to get you back. But there is nothing to read from the energy that brought you here and we can't really know anything until you tell us where exactly you're from. And we need the Martians for that. They'll be here tomorrow,"
D started chattering really fast after that, his wings flapping to the point where he was lifting off the ground.
"Hey. Hey," said Tim, "What's wrong? I'm sorry if I upset-"
D's chattering just got louder.
"I'm sorry," whispered Tim, "I'm sorry but I can't understand you,"
D let out a huff and landed back down, stomping his way back to the little corner they had set up for him and Talia. They had tried to get him upstairs but he had refused to leave his mother's side so Alfred and Jason had set up a temporary residence in a corner, separated by curtains.
"What happened?" asked Jason, running up to him, Cass right behind him.
"I dunno," murmured Tim, "We talked about his siblings and then I was saying how we were waiting on the Martians and he just got worked up and started to say something. I couldn't understand him,"
They looked over to D, who was still visible due to the curtains not being closed. He was sitting on the floor, gently rocking back and forth, almost in a trance.
"I'm gonna-" started Jason
Cassandra stopped him with a hand on his arm.
"No," she said, "Leave him,"
Trusting her judgement, Jason nodded and turned back toward Tim.
"I'm sure it was nothing. He's probably just getting a little frustrated you know. His mom's asleep, he's in another reality and no one here can understand him,"
"Yeah, I guess," said Tim, "I just wish there was more we could do,"
"Me too," murmured Cass, "Me too,"

It was the second day of their guests being in the cave that the Martians landed outside of it.
J'onn and M'gann came early in the morning and were introduced to D. Stephanie thought she saw recognition in his eyes.
"Hello, little one," said J'onn, kneeling in front of D, "I would like permission to from a mind link with you. I will not try to look into your memories, but I would like to understand what you are thinking and then translate your thoughts to our hosts here. Do you understand?"
D nodded and smiled up at J'onn, gently patting him on the cheek.
"Alright then," said J'onn, "Let's get started,"
J'onn locked eyes with D and they started to glow. Both him and D went oddly still, an odd sight that Stephanie had gotten used to when it came to the Marians' mind link.
Only a few moments into the link, D started to squirm, moving his hands and twitching his wings.
J'onn visibly stopped and looked down at D, "Is there something wrong, little one?"
D balled his hands into fists and shook his head, obviously trying to get them to stop. It didn't seem to help and the switching of his wings only got worse.
Beside her, Duke leaned in, "Does that look like what I think it looks like?"
"Maybe," murmured Stephanie, analyzing D's movements and thinking back to what Tim and Cass had said about his mannerism, "I think so,"
"Should I-"
Stephanie nodded, "Doesn't hurt to try,"
Bruce was just about to step up when Duke stood up.
"I have an idea," said Duke, "I'll be right with you,"
Duke jogged over to the cabinets and pulled out a couple of things and brought them over. He and Stephanie then explained them to D.
"See this," said Stephanie, holding op a plush penguin, "His name is Mr. Flappy. We sometimes hold him when we want to do something stressful. Would you like to hold him?"
D touched the soft toy and then nodded. Stephanie gave him the toy and he squeezed it, cooing in delight when it squeaked.
Duke smiled, "This is a weighted blanket. You can wrap this around yourself while J'onn makes a link,"
"And D," said Stephanie, "You don't have to be still, okay?"
D looked down at his feet but nodded. Stephanie took it as a win.
"Good," said Duke, "We're just gonna go over there,"
Both him and Stephanie turned back to go to their original spot and as they did, Stephanie spotted a proud smile on Bruce's face.
'Good job' mouthed Bruce.
Stephnie grinned and beside her, Duke did a thumbs up.
This time when J'onn tried to establish the mind link, D seemed noticeably calmer, rocking back and forth while wrapped in the blanket and holding the toy close.
"So, child," said J'onn, "Show me what happened,"
D closed his eyes and J'onn started to narrate.
"You were being chased and your mother tried to get both of you away. but she was- she was hurt, is that it? Yes, she was hurt so she miscalculated. I see. Do you know how we could get you home without waking your mother up?"
"Ah," said J'onn and opened his eyes.
"What?" asked Bruce
"Well," said J'onn, "It seems that D here believes that his family will find him. That's what he trying to tell young Timothy yesterday,"
"There's a difference between his family being to able to track him and him believing that they'll come for him," said Bruce
D let out an unholy screech at that, obviously offended.
"I think you pissed him off, B,"
Bruce turned to D, "I'm sorry, Kiddo. But we need to know,"
"May I?" M'gann asked D.
He scrutinized her for a minute but then nodded his consent.
M'gann started a mind link and began to ask her own questions.
"How are they going to find you?"
A few moments and then-
"Ah, I see," said M'gann, "According to D here, there are five people in the family that can travel through realities, including his mother. The others are his father, his brothers Jason and Richard and his sister Cassandra. They will most likely split into four groups. His Father and Aunt Kate. Jason and his outlaws. Richard, Selina and Timothy. Cassandra, Stephanie and his last brother, Duke. Alfred will be taking care of his baby sister Helena,"
"How do they track you, D?" asked Tim
"Hmm," said M'gann, "According to him, they have a link and can signal each other but D's is weak since he's young and his mon has to be conscious to send one. His family will look into other realities around and then make their way here. Apparently, they already have a system in place for if something like this happens,"
And then she snorted, "Something about his father being a bit paranoid,"
There were a few chuckles around the room while Bruce glowered at all of them.
"Anyway," said M'gann, "All that can be done here is that you take care of him and keep him safe,"
"Who was chasing you?" asked Jason
D frowned and looked around the cave, his gaze landed on the wall of blades and he pointed to ap articular one.
"That's my league blade," said Damian, and Stephanie noticed him stiffen, almost involuntarily.
Something was up with the kid.
"Were you being chased by Ra's?" asked Bruce
Damian nodded.
"I'm assuming he can't travel thought realities," said Bruce, "And no one in his loyal circle can either,"
D pointed to M'gann and she once again began the mind link.
"Hmm," she said, "No, Ra's can't travel. Interesting. It seems that the species in their reality are a bit different than most. Only D's kind and magic users can travel through realities and even then a very small percentage of those groups. Ra's and his followers are not included in this category. And even if he could find someone to do his bidding, it would be near impossible for them to find him since there is no link,"
"So only his family can track him," said Tim, "That's why Talia got them out of there. She was hurt and took the risk,"
"Brave of her," murmured Selina
D also chattered sadly.
Dick smiled and kneeled in from of him, "I'm sure your family will come soon, Kiddo,"
"Who do you think will get here first?" asked Tim
D tilted his head and then pointed at Jason.
"Jason, huh," said Duke, "Makes sense if you ask me,"
D giggled and leaned into Dick, a bit of the day's tension draining out of him.
"I have to leave now," said J'onn, "But M'gann will stay in case you need another mind link. Is that alright, D?"
D smiled and nodded, waving a small, clawed hand at M'gann.
J'onn smiled, "Lovely then,"

After lunch, Damian was sitting in his room and reading when someone knocked on his door.
"Come inside," he called out
It was Richard at the door.
"Hey Dames," he said, "Whatcha doing?"
Damian scooted over to make room for the man on his bed.
"Just a book," said Damian
"Hmm," said Richard, "You know, I've noticed that you haven't sent any time with our guest,"
"I'm not required to," he said shortly
"No," said Richard, "Of course not. But I'm just wondering if you're alright?"
"I'm fine," said Damian
"Dames-"
"I'm fine, Richard. I am not missing my mother. I am not worried about threats. I am not feeling sad. Or anything else your mind is coming up with right now. I am fine,"
"Okay," said Dick, giving his head a gently kiss, "Let me know if that changes, okay?"
"Fine," said Damian
Dick gave him another smiled and then left. Damian sighed and slumped down, not knowing how to explain to anyone what his actual worry was about.
Maybe he should spend more time with the other Damian. He could certainly alleviate some of his concerns this way.
Making up his mind, he grabbed some of his art supplies and made his way down to the cave. There, he found M'gann and Cassandra sitting and conversing with each other while D played with the plush toy Stephanie and Duke had given him.
Once the girls saw him, they both left while begging Alfred's cookies.
Damian sat down with D who looked at him curiously.
"I like drawing and painting," said Damian, "Do you mind if I draw you. I've never met someone with your features before. I think it would be interesting,"
D titled his head and then pointed at some of his paper followed by his fluid acrylics.
"You want to paint?" asked Damian
D nodded and looked at him with pleading eyes. Damian couldn't help the smile that came over his face.
"Alright, you paint. I'll draw you,"
He opened the paints for D and then went to grab a brush but noticed that the other boy had started painting with his claws.
"Well," Damian murmured, "That's one way to do it,"
Damian took his time sketching D, making sure he got all the details right. By the time he was done, a few hours had passed and it was almost time for dinner.
When he was finished, D showed him his painting and Damian had to say, he was impressed. And that was no easy feat.
While Damian had been drawing him in detail, D had used that paints to sketch out a few rough paintings. It wouldn't have worked usually but the material of D's claws had probably made it easier.
The first one was of Damian, showing him with his head down and bowed over a book. Next were three faces, One of D's mother, the other one obviously his father and a third that looked like Jason. He also had another painting of six figures flying in the distance. Another one that looked like a dragon from folklore.
"These are beautiful," said Damian, "Do you all live together? Your mother and father and your siblings?"
D nodded and Damian sighed in relief. A part of him had been afraid that Talia was taking D away from his family and that his father and siblings would cause a fight, hurting D the way Damian himself sometimes hurt.
Except, it didn't seem to be the case.
"That's wonderful," said Damian, "Do you want to see mine?"
D nodded and took the sketch, instantly squealing happily. His wings started flapping and he did a swoop around the cave, chattering happily as he clutched the drawing.
"You really like it, huh?"
D smiled and nodded.
"Well, you can keep it," said Damian, "As long as you let me draw another one that I can keep too,"
D nodded enthusiastically, smiling down at the sketch.
"Would you like to see more of mine?" asked Damian
D let out another whoop.
Damian grinned, "I'll take that as a yes,"

Bruce climbed down the stairs with Dick to get both Damian and D for dinner. They were hoping to coax their guest out of the cave to eat.
Once they got there, Bruce was surprised to find that both boys were sitting down and excitedly chattering. It didn't matter that Damian couldn't understand D, they still seemed to be able to communicate effectively, flipping through Damian's sketches that were kept down in the cave.
"Oh, hello Father. Richard," said Damian, as they came into view
D smiled and saved shyly.
"Boys," said Bruce, "We were just here for dinner,"
Damian turned to D, "Would you like to come upstairs this time?"
D shook his head and cast a glance at his mother, his eyes going dull and sad again.
Bruce frowned until an idea came to him.
"Dick," he said, "Tell Alfred we have a change of plans,"
And that was how they all ended up having dinner in the cave, picnic style.
After dinner D showed them sketches of his family. Everybody smiled and complimented as M'gann translated for D.
"Yes, apparently Jason is the scariest one of them but very sweet. Richard can do other most tricks in the air and Tim likes to fly at night. Cassandra is the fastest though. And Stephanie has the most unique wings because they are purple. And Duke lets him draw on his wings with glitter. Helena can't do much yet, she's just a baby,"
"So," said Jason, "Would you say that your dad is scarier than Jason or less?"
"Ah yes, " said Dick, "Ask the important questions why don't you?"
Jason shoved him before turning back to D, "So?"
M'gann laughed as she listened to whatever D was saying.
"According to D, his father is the pretty one of the family. A real charmer,"
Bruce smiled, "Well, that's not so bad then,"
"Pretty boy, Bruce," teased Stephanie
"Do you have an Alfred too?" asked Tim
D nodded and then picked up the picture of the dragon-like creature and held it up for everyone to see.
"He has silver features and this his 'other' form,"
"His other form is a dragon?" asked Jason
M'gann got a surprised look on her face, "Everyone in his reality has another form, which shows through their features. His family is what we call dragon, they pronounce it draagn. There are only a few of those around. Most of the populations are made of magic users and animal-shifters. Some other forms are sea creatures,"
"Wait!" said Duke suddenly, "I have an idea,"
He pulled out his phone and started to look for something. When he found it he held it out for everyone to see. Bruce scanned it and see that it was list of mythological creatures.
"Are any of these the 'other forms'?"
D nodded, pointing at a Nyad, a phoenix, a griffin, a pegasus, a jinn and even a chimera and some Chinese folk animals like the nine-tailed fox and the one-eyed cat with three tails.
"Wow," said Tim, "Could it be that our realities brushed each other and a lot of out folk animals are really just people and creatures from other realities,"
"Maybe," said Dick, "Some might have even gotten stuck here, hence the myths and stories,"
Everyone got quiet for a moment, trying to comprehend what this, if true, meant for their realities' history.
Eventually, Bruce decided to break the silence.
"I think it's time for bed for some people, especially if we're taking a break from patrol," said Bruce, sending a meaningful look to his two youngest sons. They had promised to him sleep earlier this week.
He also noticed that D slumped down a bit and felt bad.
"You can come up too," Bruce told him
D shook his head and chattered softly, casting his gaze toward his mother.
"I can just sleep down here," said Damian
Bruce wondered if his kids would ever stop surprising him.
"Yeah!" said Dick, "Why don't we all just stay down here tonight?"
"Well," said Alfred, "These old bones are not made for this cave. However, you all can stay here if you prepare proper bedding,"
"I'll take care of it, Alfie," said Bruce
"Alright then," said Alfred, "I'll be heading up,"
Bruce waved to him and then turned toward his children.
"Alright, Jason and Tim bedding, Stephanie, M'gann and Cass pillows, Duke and Dick blankest ad everyone's plushes, Damian and D, you can set things up as they bring them downstairs,"
His kids nodded and scattered to get everything done.
Once everyone was sitting down, still quite awake, Bruce decided on a long proved tactic.
"Anyone want me to read anything?" asked Bruce
"I'm fine with whatever," said Jason
A few more murmured os assent followed. D raised on os his hands and chattered softly.
"D's wondering if you would finish the book Jason was reading to him yesterday,"
"Little Women," said Jason, "It's still on the table and put the bookmark in,"
Bruce smiled, "Little Women it is,"

Bruce was barely starting to stir awake when the cave rumbled in a familiar way and there was a flash of light.
He sat upright just in time for five figures to appear in the cave. D had also spotted them and was flapping his wings and flying among them. The figure at the head finally took his in their arms, gently hugging him close.
It seemed like D had been right after all. The figure could be no other than Jason Todd. And he was terrifying.
Twisted horns, double claws, slit eyes and big stature, all came to together to make a nightmarish figure. The way he was talking to his little brother negated the effect though.
Behind him stood what seemed to be his team. Kori and Bizzaro looked the same as they did in their universe while Artemis seemed to have a greyish tint to her skin and Roy had spirals of what seemed like fire all around his arms and legs.
"Huh," said Dick, "D was right,"
"Seems so," murmured Tim
Their guests finally seemed to be done with their greetings and the other Jason turned toward Talia's body and frowned. Tim instantly stepped up to explain.
"We had to-"
"A magical come," said Jason, voice a bit jarring and shocking
Tim instantly stopped and stared at him wide-eyed.
Jason turned back and frowned again.
"What?"
"Well- uh- I wasn't um-expecting to- well"
That was when Bruce decided to step in, "Sorry. What my son is trying to say is that we weren't expecting you to speak since D didn't. That's what we've been calling him,"
"And you're kinda terrifying," Tim rushed out
The other Jason let out a laugh, "Why, thank you. Also, we do talk, D is just nonverbal,"
Ah, that certainly explain ed some of the behaviour that they had just put to being anxious and different from them.
There was another rumble and bodies started to flash into the cave, the whole other family appearing altogether.
"Damian," called out one of them, separating themselves from the hoard.
It was the other Bruce Wayne
"Holy shit," muttered his Jason
Holy shit indeed.
Pretty did not begin to describe the other's appearance. He was wearing a tank top with pants that seemed to be painted, leaving little to the imagination. Slim with toned muscles, shimmery wings, sparkly blue slit irises and shimmery black swirls reaching for his cheekbones, the man was a thing to behold. His hair was waist length and had been braided loosely. His scales shone in the light of the cave and his claws seemed to be made of dense glittery obsidian and his horns were gold and black.
Once D was done with this father, he flew over to the rest of his family and the other Bruce turned toward them.
"Hi," he said softly
Bruce stepped up and held out his hand, "Lovely to meet you,"
Other Bruce gave him a bright smiled and shook his hand.
If Bruce was a lesser man, he would have been at the start of an inferiority complex at the moment.
Instead, he gestured at Talia.
"We have her in a magical coma," he told him
"I can see that," said other Bruce, "We'll take her back with us and take care of her once we get home,"
"So you're together?" asked Damian, "D, that's what we call other me, said you all lived together. Is that true?"
It struck Bruce then, the reason for Damian's odd behaviour. He thought D would be separated from his mother the way he had been separated from his. By the way some of his other children were shifting, they had realized it too.
The other Bruce merely smiled though, "Ah, yes. We are married. Just celebrated our fifteenth anniversary,"
"And who's Helena?" asked Tim, "We didn't recognize that name,"
"Oh she's mine and Selina's," he said, vaguely gesturing behind him, "Sel wanted a baby so I helped her out. We agreed that she would be raised as part of the family though she keeps her mother's name,"
"Ah," said Tim
A child half him and half Selina. While part of him was curious, another didn't want to know the outcome of that.
D came up to his father and said something softly.
"Anyway," said other Bruce, "Thank you for taking care of my family but we should be going now,"
"Of course," said Bruce
The other one went to get Talia and the rest of the family came up to thank them. Dick practically hugged all fo them, Tim was solemn and Cassandra kissed all their cheeks. Stephanie and Duke went around giving them fist bumps and high fives while Selina and Kate merely said a few words each.
"You have an Alfed too, right?" said Selina, "D wanted us to meet him too,"
And because Alfred was magic, he chose that moment to step out of the elevator.
The other family surrounded him, profusely thanking him or also taking care of their family members. Alfred, to his great credit, took it all in stride and responded accordingly.
Right before they were about to leave, D leaned up into Jason's ear and whispered something quietly.
Both Bruce and Jason turned back and knelt. Jason took out a block of what seemed like glass and blew into it until it was shipped into their bat symbol. Bruce made a gesture with his hands and there was a liquid sloshing in the glass replica.
They handed it to D and the little one ran over to hand it to them.
"He says it's a present," said M'gann, "The people in their reality bend metal. Some more than one. Some metals are bent by more than one kind but Mercury is bent by the draagn exclusively,"
"But isn't mercury poisonous to us?" said Tim
"Not that one," said Bruce, "You can take some out from the stopper at the bottom and test it but I believe you are fine to keep it, Think of it as a token of our thanks. Mercury is special to us or as we normally call it, Quicksilver,"
"Alright," said Bruce, "Thank you,"
The other family disappeared in a flash of light and all they were left with was an odd decor piece and a couple of sketches.
The glass bat symbol ended up sitting right in front of the huge penny.

In the evening right before patrol, Bruce found Damian standing in front of the bat and watching the liquid quicksilver slosh around as if it had a mind its own. Some kind of magic, surely.
"Father," murmured Damian
"Damian," answered Bruce
"They were a lovely family," said the young boy
"They were,"
A moment and then-
"We have a lovely family too," said Damian, "Even if I wish some things were different,"
"We do have a lovely family," said Bruce, kneeling down in front of his son, "But you are also allowed to wonder how things could have been different,"
"I miss her sometimes," said Damian, "I know she wasn't really fit to raise a child, not after everything grandfather put her through and certainly not without getting help first but she is my mother and I miss her sometimes,"
"I know," whispered Bruce, "Come here,"
Bruce tugged Damian close, enveloping him in his arms.
"I love you, baby,"
"I love you too, Father,"

This is going to be a brief breakdown of Ed’s relationships with the other characters in Gotham mostly from his Riddler days. This is from his perspective, theirs are mostly still open (besides the ones that I explain here). Also, these relations can change over time which many of them will. Please note- This list is for those who are curious, and for writers who might need some inspiration in the case a character comes up in their writing and they get stuck. You don’t have to reference this, these are just my current ideas on these character relations.   
Heroes: 
Batman- HATE. I’ve gone over this already in his bio, but I’ll use this to explain some things from Batman’s perspective. At first Batman saw Ed as someone unable to control their compulsive behavior, and thought Eddie just needed some intervention. However, as the years went by and he began to be the focus of Ed’s schemes he started to see him as a cunning, intelligent, and very dangerous criminal. Especially when it became clear to him that Ed had no regard for others, and Ed’s plans regularly put other’s lives and well being at risk. He knows that Ed’s intelligence and his ability to process and retain knowledge is extremely high, and he worries that Ed’s intellect might surpass his at some point. Ed’s motives were always rather simplistic even if his methods weren’t, but Batman saw his potential and believed if Ed truly applied himself he could become much too dangerous. Because of this he handled Eddie very specifically. He would normally take on the Riddler on his own in hopes of controlling their interactions, and keep himself as the main focus of Ed’s ire. Nightwing- Greatly dislikes. From his time as Robin being a bratty teen with a smart mouth, Ed sees him as an annoyance despite only having brief encounters with him through the years. Oracle- Ed has no idea Oracle is the previous Batgirl, but he REALLY dislikes her. Since Batman doesn’t really control Batgirl he’s had more interactions with her than the Robins. He’s been on the receiving end of too many of her beastmode attacks to have anything but negative feelings toward her. Jason Todd- **I haven’t decided if this is post, pre, or if the Red Hood arc is going to play out like the canon* Robin (Tim)- Ed doesn’t like any of the Robins, but he does have a very slight respect for Tim. He’s had much more interactions with him than the previous two, and he knows that he’s smart and capable. He certainly keeps his guard up around him, and chooses his words wisely so not to divulge too information. Batgirl (Steph)- Dislikes, but doesn’t take her too seriously. 
Batgirl (Cass)- Dislikes. Only in his brief interactions with her, he really doesn’t like her. The reasons should be obvious.
Alfred Pennyworth- None
Jim Gordon- This one is a bit complicated. When Ed worked for the GCPD he had very few interactions with Jim, but the two were cordial. When Ed became The Riddler Jim felt betrayed since he used a lot of information he’d complied while working at the department. Over the years though Jim began to see Ed as someone who couldn’t control himself and was suffering with mental issues. He took the stance of treating Ed the way he treated him, but tries not to get him too riled up. He figured out that if he treated Ed with respect then Ed tended to behave and not get too excitable. On the other hand, Eddie actually likes interacting with Jim. He finds him quite entertaining, and likes watching Jim try to hold his tongue in his presence. 
Renee Montoya- Complicated as well. When Ed worked for the GCPD Renee found him to be very odd, and he gave her the creeps though she couldn’t quite put her finger on why. When Ed became The Riddler she also felt betrayed, but she was much more confrontational with her anger toward him than Jim. Through time she also began to see Eddie the same way as Gordon, but she finds it hard to control her distaste toward him. The fact that he can escape handcuffs, and any cell they put him in makes her very nervous around him whenever he’s in custody. Eddie tends to find her outbursts rather funny, and usually would try to get on her nerves whenever he was bored when around her. Renee was rarely the main focus of his attention, but when she was he would be quite rude to her in hopes of getting her riled up. Harvey Bullock- Also complicated. Same situation as the other two, but Harvey actually liked Ed a bit when he worked at the department. He found his snide comments to be very humorous, as long as they were directed toward someone else. He also felt betrayed, but Harvey personally suffered more from Ed’s betrayal. Since then he has a deep disdain toward Ed, and feels zero sympathy or understanding for him. He’s very open about his anger with Eddie, and would often berate him whenever he was in custody. Eddie however loves interacting with Bullock. He finds Harvey’s anger very entertaining, and typically focuses on baiting him into an outburst. He’s used these situations multiple times as a distraction to escape custody.
Villains:
Bane- They haven’t had much interaction, but anyone who breaks the Bat Ed is going to like at least a little bit. Black Mask- Good. Ignoring Roman’s trigger happy temper, Ed tends to find him easy to work with since Roman’s motives are relatively simple. Clayface- Good. He’s hired Basil on a few occasions and found him pretty easy to work with. Catwoman- Dislikes, despite the two not having any real confrontations. The two are respectful to each other, but Selina thinks outside the box too much for Ed’s liking. She’s also better at certain skills than he is, which really messes with his ego since he doesn’t trust her. Long and short of it is- Selina makes Ed feel inadequate so he avoids her, but he’s not stupid so he doesn’t piss her off. Harley Quinn- As The Riddler Ed found Harley to be an annoyance, and couldn’t understand why Joker wouldn’t just kill her. He viewed her as unintelligent, and a waste of time. He generally treated her like he would a child, which sometimes worked and other times Harley found patronizing. *By the time Ed quits his criminal career however, him and Harley have an odd relationship. They’ve survived some very close calls, and even though he still finds her annoying he seems to accept her presence around him even though he tends to ignore most of what she says. Their chumminess is odd, and quite suspicious to everyone else in the city.  Hush-**I haven’t decided if this is post Hush, pre Hush, or if Hush plays out like the canon or not**
The Joker- Ed is one of the few people who can be around Joker repeatedly without getting killed. He made the mistake of teaming up with Joker once, and quickly learned his lesson never to do it again. After that he figured out how to deal with Joker, and kept him at arms length. He has The Joker mostly figured out, and doesn’t find interactions with him to be as unpredictable as others do. He also likes that whenever Joker comes to him needing something silly for one of his plans, he can charge him ridiculously high prices and Joker will pay without a second thought. His reputation of dealing with Joker is a bit of an ego boost for him, thinking he’s learned how to manipulate him. The reality is though, Joker doesn’t kill him simply because he finds Ed’s sensitive ego and his self destructive behavior hilarious. Killer Croc- Eddie thinks they’re alright, but they’re really not. 
Mad Hatter- They’re alright. Ed can’t be around Jervis for too long because his fantastical ramblings get on his nerves, but he tends to play along with Jervis’ delusions enough that Jervis thinks he understands. Because of this Ed finds him easy to influence. He has little interest in Jervis, but his mind control tech is something Ed’s always been trying to get his hands on. Unfortunately for him, currently Jervis is unwilling to fully share it.
Mr. Freeze- Its really 50/50 with these two. Even though Ed sees Victor as an easy way to make some money, or someone to have do some dirty work for him if need be, he also finds Victor’s anger to be exhausting to deal with. He knows Victor doesn’t like him and only really uses him for his own objectives, but Victor also makes their interactions quiet rocky. Ed will work with him if the opportunity arises, but he’ll keep their business brief. The Penguin- Good. The two of them have very similar skills at persuasion, manipulation, and deception. They practically do a constant dance of give and take with each other, to the point that now they both see the other as a valuable resource. Since they both dabble in similar assets the two have found its easier to work together than to be competition, which has really made them both more successful in the long run. From Ed’s perspective this is a battle of intelligence, but he has recognized that Os is aware of it and surprisingly isn’t put off by it like others are. He respects Os’s boundaries, and finds business with him to be smooth sailing. Os has a good level of respect for Ed. Not only because of his intelligence, and reliability, but also that Ed is smart enough to never fully trust Os. He’s used to being underestimated by people, and Ed’s unwillingness to divulge too much is a level of cunning he admires. *Os is not happy about Ed’s “career” change. He doesn’t believe Ed has turned over a new leaf, but his sudden switch makes him very uneasy. He has people watching Eddie very closely.  Poison Ivy- Not at all good. Ed made the mistake of underestimating Ivy early on, giving her the opportunity to see him as the manipulative jerk he really was. She hasn’t trusted him since, and he usually has to avoid her in order to not get crushed by her plants.  Ra’s al Ghul- None. **I currently really want to keep the Gotham criminals in the dark about the League** Scarecrow- Dislike. Considering that Crane is an actual intellectual and a genius, Ed does not like interacting with him. He isn’t outwardly hostile toward Crane, but he definitely avoids him whenever he can. Crane’s intelligence really messes with Ed’s ego. Mix that with Crane’s creepy nature, and his constant psychological analyzing, he usually makes Ed feel like an inferior child. He’s also a bit scared of him and that fear toxin. Two-Face- Also 50/50 with them (I didn’t do that on purpose). Having to interact with two people in one body with two separate motivations can be quite stressful for Ed, but at the same time he enjoys the game. Harvey isn’t as easy for him to manipulate as he can with others, and he’s had a few close calls with Harvey where he pushed things too far. This seems to have fueled his interest in the game more, rather than deter him.

First Xmas Gala
Ashleigh Wayne Au Fic Masterlist
The day of the Gala has come, and Ash couldn't be more nervous, but with her family by her side everything will be fine, right?
Preparing for the Gala
. . . . .
I didn't sleep that night. I got up at five, shower, shaved, and cleaned myself up. I tried to do something with my hair, but there wasn't much I could do, so I ended up leaving it as it was.
As I headed back to my room, I spotted the boys in Dick's room, getting ready. The five of them were wearing similar black suits, each had unique accessory matching the Wayne wearing it. Dick, Duke, and Damien all had ties, blue, yellow, and green respectively, Tim a red bowtie, and Jay a loose floor length skirt.
I stared in aww at my brothers. "You guys look stunning."
Dick looked up at me curiously. "Thank you. Are you wearing that?"
I was still in the clothes I'd worn the day before. "First off, I already look better then you."
Jay snickered. "That's not hard."
"Secondly, no. I'm going to get changed now."
Duke adjusted his tie. "Well hurry."
I headed to my room, stripped and looked into wardrobe. The suit, or the dress? The suit was nice, and I knew I'd be comfortable, I wouldn't stand out, but I had to wear the dress. I wanted to wear the dress.
I examined myself in the mirror. The blue dress hugged my body, not too tightly, but enough. The long skirt hid the sneakers, and tracksuit bottoms I was wearing underneath. I rubbed my bare arm. It felt right, but could I really wear it in front of all those people? In front of Cassie?
Someone knocked on the door. I recognised Harper's knock. "You decent, Ash?"
"Yeah, I am."
"Mind if we come in?"
I unlocked the door for them. Carrie, and Harper walked in. I looked at the girls. Harper was wearing a black suit, with a blue undershirt, while Carrie was wearing her green sun dress
"You look amazing." We all said in unison. It was followed by a burst of giggles.
Carrie leaned against my dresser. "So, are you ready for your first Gala?"
"I guess so."
"You look worried."
"All things considered, the Galas the least of my worries."
"Cassie?"
I turned back to the mirror. "Yes. Do you think she'll like this dress, or should I wear a suit?"
Harper came up behind me, and wrapped her arms around me. "Do you like it?"
"Yeah, but-"
"No buts. You like it, so nothing else matters, plus I know Cassie will love it. You want to know how I know?"
"How?"
"Cause you're in it."
I leaned my head back into her. "Thank you, Harper."
In the mirror, I watched as Carrie pick up my pair of fishnet gloves. "You've been taking fashion tips from Dinah I see."
I took them from her, and pulled them on. "Zee, actually. She's got great style. Would one of you mind taking a picture of me?"
Carrie grabbed my phone. "Not at all. Strike a pose."
I smiled as she took a step back to get a proper shot. As the camera flashed, I felt a sudden weight on my back.
I tried to steady myself as Harper clung to my back. "Photobomb!"
I giggled as we fell onto the bed, knocking her off of me. "Photohog more like it."
When we were done laughing, Carrie took a proper photo, then one of the three of us together. I sent them to Siobhan, then the three of us headed downstairs.
Everyone was gathered in the living room. Bruce was the first to spot us. "Ashleigh, you look stunning."
Kate appeared behind him. "Understatement of the century."
I could feel my face reddening. "Thank you."
The same could be said for them. Bruce was wearing a pitch black suit. In a dim light room, he'd be hard to spot. Maybe that was the point. Kate's outfit was at least bit more colorful. Her black dress had intricate red lines swirling through it.
Carrie coughed, drawing our attention to her, and Harper. "There are other children in the room looking for positive verbal reassurement."
Bruce russeled their hair. "You two are just as stunning as ever."
Carrie fixed her hair in one motion. "Good. Thank you."
Harper was not so lucky. She gave Bruce a sour look as she pushed the loose hair from her face. "Yeah, thanks."
I looked around the room, admiring everyones outfits. I'd seen Bab's dress the day she got it, but it looked even better on her. The green empire dress worked so well for her. As for Steph, and Cass they both wore matching sun dresses. The only difference being the colours, purple, and black respectively, both with splashes of yellow.
We took the obligitory family photos. First, all of us together. Then the adults. Then the kids. Then a couple more in our own little groups.
Steph had taken on the role of 'parent who wants way too many pictures'. She insisted on getting dozens of pictures of everyone. After what felt like a hundred pictures, Steph left me alone, and went to get pictures of Bruce.
Kate took my hand in hers. "You nervous?"
"More then I've ever been."
She gave it a gentle squeeze. "You'll be fine."
"What if I fuck it up?"
"You won't."
"I'm going to do something wrong or forget something- The flowers! What did I do with the flowers?"
"Calm down."
I thought for a minute as to where I left them. "They were in my room. I'll go get them."
I turned to go get them, but Kate grabbed my shoulder. "You stay here, I'll get them."
Kate left, and returned a few minutes later with my flowers. She set them down nearby, and we chatted as we waited.
Since the Supers and the Wonders were also going to the Gala, Bruce had suggested they all carpool with us. It wasn't long before the Supers arrived, much to Tim, and Damien's delight.
Clark wore a lovely tan suit, Lois a very professional looking black suit, she was still very much in reporter mode. Conner, and Jon wore near identical Superman-esc suits. They we're adorable, and clearly Tim agreed, considering how quickly he jumped into Conner's arms. Kara had a lovely yellow bouffant dress, and Karen a green sheath dress. It made her look like a news anchor. Of course a news anchor wouldn't wear a green dress.
Artemis arrived soon after to pick up Jay. She had a beautiful red dress on, that ended just past her knees. I was kind of expecting her show up with the other Wonders. She assured us that the others had just run into some delays and would be here soon.
As the two went to leave, Jay stopped, and turned to me. "Piece of advice, make sure to use pro- oww!"
Artemis smacked the back of his head. "Don't you dare finish that."
"I was joking."
For just a moment I was worried that if I messed this up Artemis would break my arm, then I realized how ridiculous that was. Cassie was more then capable of doing that herself.
The two left on Artemis's motorbike, because leaving in a car or limo would have been far too boring for them.
Bruce leaned into me, and whispered. "You did have 'the talk', right?"
"Yes! What do you people think is going to happen tonight?"
Kate flashed a cheeky smile. "All cards are on the table."
I was spared delving any further into that conversation by the doorbell. Alfred left the room to answer it. It had to be the Wonders. Too late for me to back out now.
Alfred with Diana, Donna, and Cassie. I felt my heart beat faster as I saw them. Diana was wearing a blue bodice gown, Donna a sleevless black sheath dress with stars down both sides, and Cassie was wearing a red spaghetti top, and a blue skirt with stars, it looked like the one from Wonders Woman's old costume.
"Sorry for the delay." Diana apologised. "Someone forgot to check the tank before we left."
Donna sighed. "I said I was sorry."
Cassie hit them. "You two, stop fighting."
Once Cassie managed to stop the two bickering, they split off to socialise. Diana went to Bruce, and Clark, Donna to Dick, and Babs, and Cassie found her way to me.
She had a beaming smile on her face. "You look amazing."
"Thank you. You look beautiful."
She gestured to my gloves. "Got them from Zee?"
"She recommended a store."
I gestured to her skirt. "Diana's?"
"Bingo."
The two of us began chatting. Tim, Cass, and Steph joined us. We giggled amongst ourselves until the time came for us to leave.
Alfred walked over to us. "Miss Ashleigh, Miss Sandsmark, I believe it is time we leave."
Alfred, and Cassie began walking off. I went to follow them, but Steph grabbed my arm, and gestured to the flowers. "Forgetting something."
"Oh yeah." I quickly grabbed them. "Thanks."
Cass kissed my cheek. "Head up, be proud." 
"Thanks."
I caught up with the two. Cassie looked at me. "What held you up?"
"I forgot something." I presented the flowers to her.
She examined them. "They're beautiful. What are they?"
"Flowers."
She punched my arm. "I know that. What kind?"
"Oh. The red ones are amaryllis, the yellow are orchids, and the blue ones are larkspur."
"I've never heard of that last one."
"Neither have I."
"Did you just choose these because of my costume?"
"For the most part."
"Dork. I love them."
We wandered out to the car that Alfred had for us. We sat into the back.
"Flowers, and our own car, not a bad start to a date."
"The seperate car was Dick's idea." I admitted.
"In that case I'm surprised it's not filled with rose petals and candles."
"Oh don't worry, he wanted to."
"He's like a cliche romance novel, in the best ways. What stopped him?"
"Babs had him a short leash. He wanted to arrange a romantic candle lit dinner in the fanciest restraunt in Gotham. I figured that might be too much."
"That's ridiculous but sweet. Someone going to be lucky to have him one day."
"Yeah, they are. Would you have liked that?"
"I'll love whatever we do, as long as we do it together."
"I'll remember that for next time."
She smiled "Already thinking about a next time?"
"No. I mean yeah, but- sorry."
"It's alright, Ash. You don't have to be nervous."
"Says you. I don't think I've ever seen you nervous."
"I'm nervous right now."
"About the date?"
"Yeah."
"You have nothing to worry about, this is going to be the best date I've ever been on."
"How are you so sure?"
"I've never been on a date before."
Cassie laughed. "Doesn't that mean it will also be the worst date you've ever been on?"
"Shush."
The rest of the ride was filled with our typical banter. It felt so natural that I forgot it was a date. I only remembered as we pulled up to the Gala. I stepped out of the car, turned, and offered Cassie a hand out. "M'lady."
She took my hand, and giggled. "You're such an idiot."
We headed into the building. As we walked in, hand in hand, I realized something. I was so worried about the date portion, I forgot to ask what you actually did at a Gala other then dance.
I guess I have to do as I usually do, figure it out along the way, and pretend I knew all along.
The first thing I spotted once we were inside was the huge Christmas tree. It was bigger then any I'd ever seen, and beautifully decorated.
I was quickly whisked away as Cassie pulled me along behind her. Hours passed as we chatted, and joked. It really didn't feel much different then when we normally hung out.
We talked to people, the Bats, the Wonders, others who I'd never met before. When it came to that, it was more Cassie talking, and me hiding behind her. I did notice that Artemis, and Jay were no where to be seen however.
Eventually, we spotted them standing by the food table. Cassie gently dragged me along behind her as we headed over to them.
Closer now I noticed that Artemis had her hand up Jay's skirt. The two were so busy with whatever they we're doing, they didn't hear us approach.
Cassie coughed. Artemis quickly straightened up, her hand accidently pulling Jay's skirt up. He quickly pushed it down. "Hey!"
"Don't blame me. You should have worn trousers under it."
"I like the breeze."
Cassie, and I giggled at the two. "Should we even ask?"
Jay reached into his skirt, and pulled out a resealable bag full of treats. "Stealing."
I looked at him curiously. "Where were you keeping that?"
"I have the inside lined with pockets."
Cassie shook her head while chuckling. "Why are you even stealing that food, it's free?"
Artemis shrugged. "It's more fun."
I nudged Jay. "You can't go one night without some kind of mischief can you?"
"God, no."
Artemis began whispering to Cassie. Jay, and I watched them curiously. The two girls looked to us. "One moment."
They walked away, still whispering. I turned to Jay. "What's going on?"
"I have no idea." He turned back to me. "Anyway, how's the date been?"
"Great."
"And the ride here?"
"It was good, yeah. We chatted."
Jay smirked. "Is that all you did?"
"I'm going to hit you, really fucking hard."
"So is that a yes?"
"This close, Jay."
"You wouldn't hit me."
"Keep pushing, and you'll find out."
Jay was about to respond when music suddenly came on. I watched as people gathered into the center of the room.
He nudged me. "You should go dance with her."
"I might mess up. The last thing I want is to fall over her, or the other way around."
"You've been practicing all week for this. You never once knocked Cass."
"That's Cass."
"Good point."
"If she doesn't bring it up, I think I'll just avoid it."
"Too bad." He grabbed the scruff of my dress, and dragged me towards Cassie.
I tried to pry his hands from my dress. "Jay, I swear to god."
"You are going to dance. Babs, and Cass spent all week teaching you."
"Fine."
We got to Cassie, and Artemis. They looked over at us. Jay kept a hold of the neck of my dress. "Ask."
I turned to Cassie. "Would you like to dance?"
Cassie smirked. "Depends, is Jay going to dance with us."
I elbowed his stomach. He recoiled, and let go of me. "No. He won't."
Artemis laughed as he grabbed her arm to stabilise himself. Cassie, and I headed out to the dance floor. She took my hand. "You know how to slow dance?"
I placed my free hand on her shoulder. "Yeah."
She placed her other hand on my side. "Guess I'm leading."
"I'm sorry, I wasn't thinking. I can lead if you'd prefer."
"It's alright, Ash."
We moved around the ballroom elegantly to the song. Eventually Cassie closed the gap between us. "You know, Ash. For a someone who seemed like they really didn't want to dance, you're quite good at it."
"I've been practicing."
"With Dick?"
"No. He wanted to show me, but Babs wouldn't let him. She, and Cass showed me."
"That explains it."
The song stopped, and we stepped apart. "What now?"
"Wanna take a walk?"
"Sure."
We soon found ourselves out to the balcony. It was empty. The silence was nice, as was the cool winter breeze. "Tonights been nice, Cassie. Thank you."
She leaned her head onto my shoulder. "I'm glad you enjoyed it."
"I'm sorry if it wasn't what you wanted."
"I wanted a date with you, Ash. The Gala was just a great excuse for it. Tonight's been everything I wanted."
"Tonight's been a night of firsts for me."
"Oh, yeah?"
"First Gala, first date, first slow dance, even my first time wearing a dress out. It's been an amazing night, Cassie, and I have you to thank for all of it."
"This nights not over yet, Ash."
"Something you had in mind?"
"I was thinking we spend more time out here."
"That'd be nice. Maybe we can do this again. The whole date thing."
"I'd love to. Any suggestions?"
"How about the restaurant Dick was on about?"
"Sounds like a nice place."
"It would be with you there."
Cassie looked at me. "Did you just attempt to flirt?"
"Depends, was it any good?"
She kissed my cheek. "Awful, but you tried."
I felt the blood rushing to my cheeks. I stared out into the darkness. It got dark so quickly during the winter. The Bats, usually, would be out on patrol by now, and I would be home worried sick, but not tonight. Tonight, I knew they were inside, enjoying themselves, safe, and that made me happy. As did Cassie's hand in mine.
Today was a good day.

Writing this fic was so hard for so many reasons. The primary one was just to find the motivation to finish it. I set a deadline for myself of the 10th. It is not but the 10th but close enough. I think this turned out great, hope you enjoy. I also intend to post a Xmas fic soon aswell, so look out for that if you're interested. Though it might not be out by Xmas if I'm not feeling like it.

Okay okay. Headcanon for you. So Bruce just being Done With Everything is damn hilarious, especially to his sons. My headcanon is that they have their own secret little competitions to see who can get him the Most Done. Surprisingly? Tim has won twice in a row.

Unsurprisingly, it was Dick and Jason who started the game with the simple question: ‘just how many Space Jam references can I fit into this League Briefing before B loses it in front of all his Super Friends?’ (answer: 13)
And from there, it all just sort of escalated.
Batman is Tired™ and Done™ 105% of the time, but getting a rise out of him is surprisingly rare. Cracking the stoic man like an egg is one of the kids’ favorite pastimes, but while it’s fun to see their dad Lose It…bonus points are given for the I Give Up Face.
What is the I Give Up Face, you may ask? Simple: It’s what happens with Bruce Wayne has transcended anger and annoyance completely and is now on a whole ‘nother plane of apathy. It’s a beautiful thing to see.
And every Batkid has one objective–to be the first person to get the poor man to make that spiritual transition.
As a rule, Dick goes errs on the side of subtlety–little buttons that he just knows to press in order to get a rise out of Bruce. Thrown-in references, irksome words and phrases (i.e. moist, slurp, lugubrious, etc. Alfred got him a dictionary for Christmas, and Bruce’s jaw almost popped out of alignment.) But when he’s in the mood for something a little more noticeable, he sings pop songs off-key over the comms or in Bruce’s ear while he’s trying to study case files. (The most effective ones include Toxic, Call Me Maybe, Mama Mia, and anything by Ke$ha) He’s also not above poking Bruce when he’s being ignored.
Jason, though he can be subtle when the situation calls for it, absolutely thrives on brute force. How many times can he shove Damian off a roof or toss Tim out a window before Bruce busts a blood vessel or five? How many times can he go ‘undercover’ wearing nothing but street clothes and a stick-on dollar-store mustache before he makes his dad look into the camera like he’s on the Office? How many times can he leak ‘confidential information’ to the press in the form of macaroni art and Cut-And-Paste notes before incurring Bruce’s wrathful frustration? The answer might surprise you.
Barbara’s method involves strategy and finesse. For instance, why send Bruce that data he asked for right off the bat (pardon the pun) when she could send a blank file with this:

Admittedly, Barbara’s the one who gets the least I Give Up Faces out of Bruce. But she gets bonus points for getting him to scream the loudest. The man’s lost five phones to the Gotham City Streets after throwing them in blinding fits of rage.
Damian is like a cat, in that his strategy involves metaphorically placing his finger on Bruce’s metaphorical coffee mug and slowly edging it off his metaphorical desk.
Never. Breaking. Eye. Contact.  
He does this with almost everything. Deliberately breaking rules or bending guidelines in just the right way. Pressing that button. Flipping that switch. Diving off that building. All as he makes absolutely certain that Bruce is there to watch him do it. For Damian, it’s all in the eye-contact. The forceful, yet silent declaration of ‘I can do whatever I want, and there’s not a thing you can do to stop me, father,’ is one of the most surefire ways to get Bruce to Lose It.
Cass is Bruce’s sweet angel child, and would never do any of this to him!
(She totally has, but nothing they can prove. Nothing’s ever been successfully traced back to her.)
Duke’s backtalk is usually Guaranteed to get the I Give Up Face. Not that it’s disrespectful or overly snarky–quite the opposite, in fact. No, no. It’s phrases like ‘I see your point, but why do we have to jump off a roof. Wouldn’t jetpacks make more sense?’ or ‘Maybe I’m wrong, but the giant dinosaur’s kind of an eye-sore, don’t you think?’ that send Bruce off into a dissociating silence.
Duke is 100% aware of what he’s doing, but he gets supreme satisfaction from the ‘naively innocent’ routine. The key is to say his piece at just the right moment. Duke is exceptionally good at gauging Bruce’s level of volatility. So much so, that his new siblings will often  come to him to ask just how far away Bruce is from the tipping point.
Stephanie is a ‘Jack of All Trades’, you might say. She picks and chooses from her siblings’ strategies and methods. And then she amps up the ante. To Steph, ‘bigger is better’ isn’t just a turn of phrase–it’s gospel.
Dick’s blasting ‘Dancing Queen’ over the comms? Cool, cool, but what if we broad-casted it over the League’s party line at ten times the volume? Jason’s coated the batarangs with pink glitter? Let’s set a spring-loaded trigger in the Batmobile, rigged with forty-eight pounds of the stuff. Barbara’s screwing with Bruce’s data feed? Hack his visual feed with an eighteen-hour loop of Rick Astley’s Never Gonna Give You Up.
Out of all of them, Stephanie is the one with the most I Give Up Face wins.
But Tim?
Tim is a force of chaos that is not to be trifled with. As unpredictable as the elements, and twice as frightening when the occasion calls for it. The only reason that he doesn’t have the most wins is simply because he never actively participates in the game. But he’s done everything from sleepwalking, to publicly embarrassing Bruce, to T-Posing in places where he shouldn’t. (i.e. on top of a GCPD patrol car or barrel of toxic chemicals.)
Twice, Tim committed acts that triggered the I Give Up Face so quickly, so completely, that the others could only gape, and declare him the winner.
The first was during a bank robbery. The gun-toting thieves pointed their weapons at Batman, Nightwing, and Red Robin and screamed, “Don’t move or we’ll shoot!”
Tim proceeded to Fortnite Dance enthusiastically.
Bruce could only stare off into the distance (the thugs were watching, transfixed, with expressions of horrified fascination) and contemplate his life choices. After the fact, Dick swore to anyone who’d listen that he’d never seen Bruce dissociate that quickly.
The second time it happened, Tim was once again on Live Television (a foolish decision that the Wayne Enterprises higher-ups have finally learned from and vowed never to repeat). He was supposed to be giving a speech, but instead, blankly stared at the crowd, and proceeded to recite the entire script of the 1975 cinematic classic, Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Tim refused to be removed from the stand, and managed to fight off security while somehow keeping his mouth close to the mic.
Bruce came to terms with the fact years ago: he may lead a dangerous life. He may put his life on the line daily, nightly, and every moment in between. But it won’t be the villains or the thugs that finally kill him–
–it’ll be his children.

Batkids’ Viewing Habits Headcanons:
Dick: Foreign films and shows. One thing Dick really dislikes about being rooted in one place and culture after coming to live with Bruce is the sameness of Hollywood entertainment. From a young age, he was exposed to the entertainment of dozens of diverse cultures and cinematic landscapes, and he’d much rather sit down to marathon films from China, Eastern Europe and Brazil back to back than just a string of Disney movies. He does tend to prefer things like romantic comedies and low-stakes dramas that let him unwind from the pressures of actual high-stakes, end-of-the-world type missions, and he has a particular fondness for Bollywood. 
The best gifts for him are old DVDs of C-list movies that never even got uploaded to American territories and that his friends and family pick up from wherever around the world they travel, because he insists the best stuff are the movies and shows that never get picked up by the American markets. When they were teenagers, Garth once gifted him with recordings of famous Atlantean plays and became the gift to beat. 
To which Bruce gritted his teeth, intoned “Challenge accepted,” and sucked it up and paid Hal Jordan to pick up the equivalent of box-sets from various alien cultures he came into contact with. 
Jason: High octane thrillers and action blockbusters....but not for the reasons people tend to assume. He watches them because he gets a kick out of critiquing them the way lawyers and doctors complain about the inaccuracies of legal and medical procedurals. 
Watching Jason’s choice of movies or shows is basically sitting down to a running commentary about how that explosion is all wrong for that particular payload, how the actors aren’t compensating for the recoil of their guns, and scoffing at the choice of counter-strike in a choreographed fight scene when a jujitsu move would clearly have been the better option. He once paused a movie to spend two minutes making the sounds that should have accompanied the gunfire from a particular assault weapon, as opposed to what sounds it made in scene. 
Jason’s a big believer in the axiom “If you’re going to do something, do it right, dammit.” 
His siblings are big believers in the axiom: “Oh my god, shut up and turn the movie back on.”
Cass: Anything animated. She hates live action. Its all equally boring and pointless to her, because barely any actors are capable of marrying their acting choices to the minutiae of their body language, making it all but impossible for her to suspend her disbelief when watching them. They tend to telegraph their real emotions to her eyes more often than they do their actual acting choices.
So she’d much rather plop down in front of Saturday morning cartoons, animated films, Bob’s Burgers or various other animated shows, where she can just immerse herself in the shenanigans of cartoon figures that are as two-dimensional to her as anyone else. 
She hates most CGI though, just on principle. What was wrong with basic animation, she wants to know.
Tim: Soap operas. The more ridiculous the better. He used to watch them with his various nannies when he was younger, and as he grew up - and became increasingly entrenched in the bizarre and weird world of superheroics - his fondness for them only grew, because its basically the only form of entertainment that’s consistently more out there than his actual life. 
Stephanie tried to hook him on reality TV like “The Real Housewives of Gotham” but that was a non-starter. Its not the same, he insists, like the day-time television purist that he is. 
When Jason eventually reconciled with the family and was trying to figure out how to awkwardly apologize and/or make it up to Tim for the whole “so about the time I almost killed you, that was my bad” thing, Dick advised him that the quickest way into Tim’s good graces would be if he gave Tim free reign to come up with a way to resurrect him in the public eye. Tim’s eyes literally glazed over when Jason told him this, followed by: “Brb, I have to go...research.” 
What followed was a week-long binge of every soap opera resurrection while he took detailed notes complete with spreadsheets and flowcharts before he somewhat manically presented the rest of the family with no less than a dozen proposals for explaining away the presumed death, mysterious disappearance, and ultimate return of one Jason Todd-Wayne. 
Damian: Documentaries. Initially nature documentaries, with an emphasis on wildlife, he likes to zone out in front of them, occasionally drawing or sketching based on his viewing choices, but always with a ready claim of “Some of us choose to use the television to expand our minds instead of rotting them,” whenever someone walks in on him and muses that perhaps he really just likes watching cute little seal pups flopping around on the ice. 
Eventually he branched out into documentaries of all kinds, and lately he’s been on a “How Things Work” viewing kick. Which has in turn expanded into....him trying to apply his newly acquired knowledge in various ways. 
Just last week, Tim wandered down to the kitchen to get something to drink and found Damian hard at work on the plumbing under the sink, wearing a spare utility belt that had been haphazardly modified into a kind of handyman’s tool belt. 
“Wha-,” Tim had said. 
Damian’s eyes had squinted dangerously and done all his talking for him. 
Being the brainiac that he is, Tim had then decided discretion was the better part of valor and slowly backed out of the kitchen without another word, hands raised in surrender. He was mildly vindicated later when Bruce arrived home to find the kitchen half-flooded and Damian still at work under the sink cursing about shoddy instructions. 
“Did you break the sink just so you’d have something to fix?” Bruce demanded, pinching the bridge of his nose to fight back a progeny-induced migraine. 
Damian threw his arms up in exasperation, still sopping wet. “Well I wasn’t going to just wait for something to break on its own! How inefficient would that be?”
Stephanie: Nobody actually knows. She takes eclectic to an entirely new level, and claims she’s not about to allow her entertainment choices to be used against her by adding to the psychological profiles she’s convinced all of the rest of them have of her. Whether she seriously believes this or is just in it for the drama....again, who can say. 
“Nobody’s getting any free real estate in my brain, no sirree!” 
Tim, Dick, and assorted others have tried over and over to express “None of us care that much, you can stop treating ‘What do you want to watch’ like a CIA interrogation,’” but she just snorts oh so elegantly and sneers down her nose at them. 
“A likely story, Bat-brats!” 
“Steph, you’re a Bat-brat too,” Tim tries explaining patiently.
“Only by association.”
“You’re literally Batgirl.”
Anyway, the long and short of it is when its Steph’s turn to pick what movie or TV show is watched in the den, her choices range from reality TV from obscure black and white films from the 50s to Japanese re-tellings of Shakespearean plays. They’re all at least a little convinced that half of the things she picks she hates as much as the rest of them do, and she’s just silently suffering through them to make some point that’s incomprehensible to anyone but her. 
Duke: Anything that can be spoiled. See, Duke has a vindictive side, and an epic ability to hold a grudge. After his first few weeks living at the Manor had revealed unto him that everyone else in this weirdo family had a bad habit of deducing the ending to anything as soon as possible and spoiling it for everyone else because apparently everything in this household has to be a competition, Duke’s further exploration of his powers eventually revealed that here at least, he has the ultimate edge. In time, he figured out how his ghost-vision can be used to literally watch what’s on the TV a minute or so ahead of everyone else.....and he is merciless in exploiting this.
To the extent that many of the others just flat out refuse to watch any kind of game or contest or mystery with him, period.....but Duke is a Bat, after all, and not so easily thwarted. 
This eventually snowballed into him 'practicing his stealth techniques’ in the den, family room and other assorted places where the family tended to congregate around a TV.....whereupon he’d leap out of hiding at a crucial moment in the show, yell “Spoil Bomb!” and hastily shout out the spoiler while they were all still cursing and swearing about being caught off guard.
“You were supposed to be the normal one,” Bruce said to him, somewhat mournfully. Duke just shrugged.
“That sounds like a you problem, old man.”
Then he ran off cackling while Stephanie chased after him shouting about trademark infringement.
“You just had to give him a suit that can make him invisible,” Jason commented in a superficially neutral tone that was actually anything but.
Bruce sighed. “Jason -”
“I’m just saying, you never gave me a suit that can turn invisible.”
“You’re never just saying.”
“Oh, so now you’re calling me a liar, too? Nice, B. Thanks a lot.”

Remember that one time where Ms. Martian had to stand in for Tim so it looked like he got shot? Yeah, now she’s cashing in that favor.
Damian tried to adopt a kitten while he was still living and training with the League. Things did not end well. Queue a breakdown when Bruce tells Damian he can’t keep Alfred the cat.
Duke stumbles upon a mass criminal conspiracy in Gotham. He needs backup. Most of the others are away for their respective duties. Well expect for Alfred, of course.
Cass knows what the word “love” means. At least she thinks she does. 
Jason teaches Damian the “hip” and “current” Gotham slang. 
Steph dyes her hair black because she’s going through an emo phase and wants to prove a point.
Batman will do anything to one-up Superman. Even if that means forcing Damian to join the Gotham City Little League team to steal the World Series crown from Metropolis.
The Justice League desperately need a better Twitter presence. At least that’s what Tim, Kon, and Bart seem to think.
Jon teaches Damian how to have a classic sleepover. Prank calls, whipped cream, scary stories, telling secrets at 2am, everything.
Diana deserves a day off. How the hell did she end up babysitting a bunch of super-powered kids?
Officer Grayson is in a bit of a predicament. He thought he tracked down an illusive criminal he’s been following for months. Now he’s just plain confused when he breaks into the abandoned apartment to find Wally West passed out on the couch.
Dinah is overjoyed when she finds out about Lian. Oliver is petrified. Roy is the closest thing he has to a son. Does that mean he’s a. . . grandfather?
Who’s faster? Barry Allen, or Jason Todd after being spotted by Bruce at a Wayne Gala he was certainly not invited to.
Hal Jordan has no idea how he ran into some familiar kids lightyears away from earth, but here he is, trying to keep them all alive.
Cyborg and Oracle. The team up made in hacking heaven.
