Kitten walks blindly through the park, unaware of just how beautiful the falling leaves look across the grass. You’re guiding her through winding paths, all the way to a secret spot you paid the caretaker off to leave undisturbed.

Her outfit was as beautiful as ever, and the only criteria you gave her was to dress for the season. While she giggles incessantly, you take it in: a roomy brown sweater which nearly enveloped her hands, tucked into orange corduroy flares, paired with brown mule heels.

You uncover Kitten’s eyes, revealing the surprise she has been anticipating for a week now. Her eyes darted quickly, taking in the set-up before her: a yellow gingham blanket, and atop it was an overflowing picnic basket. She could only imagine what else could be awaiting her, but she could definitely see a familiar wine bottle and accompanying glasses.

“Oh, darling…” Kitten’s hand comes to cover her agape mouth.

You grin, hugging her tightly from behind, “Happy anniversary, my love.”

“Even bought my favorite wine…” She spins around, and her hands come to rest on your shoulders. Her eyes are sparkling, hints of tears threatening to spill. “Thank you, (Y/N).”

“Don’t thank me just yet!” You guide her down to the blanket, kicking off your flats before sitting. “You haven’t even seen the records I brought.”

Kitten daintily takes off her heels, grinning almost maniacally as she kneels on the fabric, “Do tell!”

“I brought all of our favorites,” gesturing to the case against your hip, she notices you had the portable record player, as well as your book of 45s. “Goldsboro, Rubettes, Sweet… even some Stevie!”

You rifle through the binder, and pull out your Bobby Goldsboro “Honey/Danny” single– something you bought for Kitten on your second date. She glowed when she unwrapped it, revealing the orange magenta label with her favorite song’s title plastered onto it.

Kitten holds the record carefully as you set up the portable player, its wood grain stark against the gingham, a holdover from your parents’ generation. She places the disc onto the center spindle, and you place the needle. The sweet, sweet sounds of adult contemporary fill the space.

The warmth of the afternoon lay dappled on the ground, wrapping the two of you in something like a yellow aura. Kitten’s nails were adorned with an orange polish, with delicate flowers– painted by you– in white. Her hand is on top of your own, and you bathe in the feeling of contentment. The autumnal breeze was cool, but welcome.

From her reclined position on the blanket, she hums, “We should probably eat before whatever it is goes stale, hm?”

“Perhaps,” you groan as you move from your own lounging, “You do tend to be the voice of reason.”

You shuffle towards the picnic basket, and hand her the bottle as well as the glasses. Opening it further reveals to Kitten the true lengths you went to for this event: cucumber sandwiches, various berries, cheeses, and crackers, and even more she couldn’t see.

“Goodness, you pulled out all of the stops, didn't you, dear?”

Laughing slightly, you take the bottle back from her and pop the cork, “I’d pull the stars from the sky if it could make you happy, my love.”

She scoffs, rolling her eyes as you pour the Sauvignon blanc into her awaiting glass, “Oh, such a poet you are.”

You pour your own glass as she takes out the sandwiches and charcuterie set-up. Kitten splits the sandwich triangles between the two of you.

“Thank you, my love,” Kitten bites into her sandwich, careful not to smudge her meticulously painted lips, “Truly.”

“It’s our third anniversary, and you always do so much for me,” you pop a cube of chèvre into your awaiting mouth, “You deserve so much more than this, Kitten.”

Cocking her head, she hums, “Well, you’ve certainly outdone yourself! Can’t remember the last time we could do something so romantic together in public…”

You bite your lip slightly as her lidded eyes meet yours, “Me neither, I had to bargain for this spot, you know. Sold all our assets away!”

“Shame, I was just about to blow it all at the slots tomorrow night with Charlie.”

“And you weren’t going to invite moi?” You hold your heart in faux offense, “Now I don’t feel so bad about auctioning off your precious silk slips.”

“You did not!”

Laughter erupted from your throat, “Dear, I would never do such a thing! You really must pick up a book on sarcasm.”

Rolling her eyes yet again, Kitten smiles as she tosses a blueberry in her mouth, “Silly, silly girl. On our special day, too.”

You grin widely, and the pair of you continue to eat away at your borderline rabbit food and white wine. The way her head is thrown back after a particularly raunchy joke you made, or how her blonde curls bounce when she’s truly excited, you couldn’t get enough of it.

The two of you make it through almost all of the records before you decide to reveal the true surprise of the afternoon.

“Doll, could you check the basket for me?” You coyly ask, busying yourself with cleaning the stray napkins and empty berry containers. “I’m sure I forgot something.”

She cocks an eyebrow, “You, forgetting something? Believe it when I see it, love.”

You watch as she leans over the picnic basket, moving her locks from her eye-line to properly check. As she investigates, you feel your heart begin to race. What if she said no, what if–

“(Y/N)!” Kitten practically shrieks when she finds the so-called missing item. “Is this what I think it is?”

She moves back to sit in front of you, an expression of pure joy written all over her face.

“Patricia ‘Kitten’ Braden, saint of my heart… will you marry me?”

Her hand was held open to reveal a golden ring, within the center was an oval diamond cushioned by two smaller ones.

“Oh, God, yes, yes!”

Before your hand reaches to slip the ring onto her finger, she’s caught your lips in a kiss that would’ve knocked off your feet, had you been standing. You could feel her heart beating out of her chest, and you raise a hand to cup her cheek.

“I love you more than anything in the universe, my Kitten. I know it may not be easy, getting married and all, but–”

Kitten shakes her head slightly, a tear falling from her eye, “Don’t say such things right now, we’ll be okay.”

Nodding, you smile through what you realize are your own tears, and take the ring from her still outstretched hand. You hold her left hand in yours, and slowly slip the delicate ring onto her finger. Her breath hitches, and so does yours.

“Please tell me I’m not dreaming, darling,” the desperation in her eyes made that knot in your throat hurt so much more.

“Far from it,” you kiss her sweetly on her plush lips, “This is as real as it gets.”

Puppy Love Picnic

This is a gift for @airin-queenz for the My Ikemen Valentine Gift Exchange hosted by @ikemenlibrary. I hope you like the story!!

Silvio had been planning the perfect picnic. Everyone knows that the perfect picnic starts with a prime location. Then, add a super soft blanket, good food, and delicious drinks.  He’d be set.  There was no way that Airin could get a better date anywhere. He’d bet on it.

The location was the hard part, but Silvio had gotten Emma to show him this hill that overlooked the entire town, her “secret place”, and she promised him she would stay away from there on Saturday.  She’d loaned him her favorite picnic blanket and basket, giving him a wink and telling him not to mess up his date with her best friend.

He’d even bribed that idiotic mutt to get Yves to make the food. The cat’s cooking was far better than anything he could get in town, and while there was nothing he could do directly to convince him to put together picnic foods and desserts, he knew that Rio was entirely capable of making it happen.

Drinks were something he didn’t need help with. He’d brought some of his favorite bottles with him from home, and he just knew that the sparkling white he’d been saving was perfect for this occasion.

Once he had everything settled, all he had to do was find the girl in question. But for some reason, every time he got anywhere near close to Airin, she ran off, or someone else needed his attention.  It was to the point where he was starting to lose his mind over it.  He hadn’t gotten to see her in days, and he was starting to think maybe he’d read her wrong, and she wasn’t interested in him.

Finally, he ran into her in the hallway, or well, she ran into him. His mind was elsewhere, and suddenly the Mad Dog of D’Avalos was pinning him to the wall. All 4’10” of her, but still she had him contained. He flinched and drew back from her before he realized who it was, and then relaxed all at once with a laugh.

“Spend your Saturday with me, Airin.” He said, just as she said,

“Your Saturday Night is mine, Silvio.”

They blinked at each other, and then laughed like idiots.

“Okay, two more steps. One more… and stop.”

“Silvio, what are we doing out here?”

Silvio chuckled and stood behind Airin with one hand protectively on her lower back before taking the blindfold off, the whole of the city arrayed before her in the afternoon sunlight. The soft sound of her gasp as she took in the view made all of the planning and the stress worth it.  The picnic itself was all a bonus after that, but it was still a bonus he’d worked hard on.

“Can’t a man just do a nice thing once in awhile?” He half-growled in irritation.

“No. He cannot.” Airin laughed, turning to look at the picnic spread out in front of her. “What is all of this?”

“Shut it, dog. It’s a picnic.” He answered, looking at her like she was an idiot as he settled himself on the blanket with a muffled jangle. “Come, sit. I have a particularly nice sparkling Moscato to drink.”

Airin settled herself on the picnic blanket and smirked at him, trailing a hand down his arm, causing him to startle and flush slightly.

“Do you want the wine or not?”

Airin held a hand out, and Silvio poured two glasses before handing her one and setting the bottle aside.  Next should have been offering her food, but Silvio found himself distracted by the satisfied smile she wore after taking a sip of the wine. At least he knew he’d done one thing right for this picnic. For her.

After a potentially awkward amount of staring, Silvio shook his head to clear the cobwebs, and offered her some of the food that Yves had made.  There were various kinds of finger sandwiches, various fruits and nuts, a small spreadable cheese with lovely crackers to spread it on, and even small meat pies.  For dessert he’d sent some honey-pistachio layered triangles that looked like a sticky mess that he couldn’t wait to lick off of her fingers, if she’d let him.

Over the course of their picnic they fed each other bites of food, sometimes laughing over a touch or a fumbled bite, but neither spoke much, until Airin met his eyes.

“Did you plan this yourself, Silvio?”

“I did.” He said, smirking. “Does it meet your expectations?”

“And then some. How did you get Yves to cook for you?”

“I called in a few favors.” 

“For this?”  Airin looked dubious, but was wearing that flirty smirk that he adored. Not that he was likely to admit that to her. Ever. Silvio pouted as he realized the wine was gone. That meant they were running out of time for conversation, and were going to have to pack everything up and head back. He hadn’t even managed to steal a kiss yet. Where were his priorities? 

“For you.” He clarified gruffly. “Wanted you to have something nice, instead of all the hell you’ve been going through with Eyepatch lately.”

Airin smiled in a way that lit up her face, and Silvio felt himself relax just a bit. Ah, right. That smile. That was the priority.

When they returned to the castle, Gilbert immediately arrived, sent a look to Airin that Silvio could in no way decipher, and then turned to Silvio himself.

“I need your help with something, jangler.” Gilbert said, before turning and walking off, assuming that he would follow, the tap-tap-tap of his cane infuriatingly regular.

Silvio winced and turned to Airin. “I know you claimed my attention this evening…”

“Go. We both know what a bother he can be if he doesn’t get his way.” Airin muttered. “Just… come by my room when you’re free?”  She reached out and tapped his nose, smirking at the way he startled from her touch, and then ran her finger down his neck to his shirt collar before turning on her heel. “Get going, lover boy. You know he’ll keep you longer out of spite if you dawdle.”

She turned on her heel and walked away, leaving Silvio no other choice than to follow where Gilbert led.  Great, just great. Now eyepatch is making me go back on my word with Airin, too.

A few hours later, interminably filled with Gilbert going over numbers and expectations about business situations that normally would have been interesting challenges for Silvio but were instead something he simply needed to get through in order to keep a promise, Gilbert stops talking and stares at him.

“Why are you so useless today?”

“You’re forcing me to break my word to Airin, eyepatch.”

“Oh, did she have something exciting planned?”

“Perhaps. She asked for my time, and I promised it to her.”

“Did you not spend all afternoon in her company?” Gilbert smirked knowingly.

“Yes. That was a favor she did for me, and I would like to return it and not be in her debt.”

“Ah. So she has something she wants you to teach Emma again, I presume.”

Silvio paused.  That was usually, in fact, what Airin had in mind when she asked for his time.  Something that Emma needed, or to help Emma understand how royals worked.  The two were very good friends, which made sense for the Belle of the Kingdom of Roses and the Rose Lady of Benitoite.

“Princess…” he sighed, mostly under his breath.  He’d hoped for some time alone just the two of them after the lovely picnic they’d had, but if she needed his help with something for Emma, he was still going to happily provide it.  Well, with his usual veneer of snark, anyway. Wouldn’t want the girls getting too comfortable after all.

“Are you done torturing me?” Silvio grumbled, looking over at Gilbert with irritation. “I should go see what Airin and Emma want.”

Without waiting for a response, he stood, and stalked out, heading for Airin’s quarters at the fastest pace his dignity would allow.

Silvio knocked on Airin’s door, startling slightly when he heard her call out instead of opening the door. “Silvio, is that you?”

“It’s me.” He said. “Answer the damn door.”

“It’s unlocked. Come in.”

He was going to have some choice words with this woman about leaving her door unlocked at this time of night, Silvio reasoned.

Of course, reason went right out the door when he saw what was waiting for him on the other side.  Airin, bedecked in lingerie that showed almost more than it hid, lay posed in perfection on top of her blankets like some kind of feast.

“It’s time for the second half of your picnic.”

Tangerine Skies: Possum x Y/N Series CH 2

Possum walked through the woods searching for a place to set up his tent for the night. Thing's got a little hairy at the last place he set up so he decided him and his little brother would take shelter on the other side of the woods.

"Zip up your coat baby brother. I don't want you catching a cold." Possum adjusted the coat on his little Opossum and fed him another oyster cracker as they walked. He stepped suddenly when he tripped over a string attached to a bunch of empty cans.

"Uh oh..." Possum put his hands up in the air hoping that whoever had set up this alert system was friendly and not a weed grower with a shotgun.

"Possum?" He looked up an saw Y/n standing with a baseball bat.

"Diner Angel." He smiled at her.

"How did you find me?" She asked lowering the bat and walking towards him.

"Um..I wasn't really looking for anyone...I just kind of go where the wind takes me." Possum explained as she knelt down and helped untangle his legs from the string.

"This is a very high tech set up you have here." He said almost stumbling once he was free.

"I honestly forgot I even put it up. I just like to know when someone is approaching in case I need to take off." She laughed standing back up and smiling at him.

"Are you camping out here?" Possum asked and she waved him over to follow her.

"I've been parked up here since I got here months ago. It's not too far from the water but not close enough to get super cold at night." She explained as he RV came into sight. Possum's eyes lit up.

"Wow that's luxury." He smiled seeing that she already had a fire lit and seemed to have set up a laundry line.

"It's not much but it's home." She felt proud of her RV. She worked really hard to afford it. It was her baby.

"Would it be okay if we camped near by? We won't be too loud or anything." Possum asked but Y/n seemed confused as to who he was talking about.

"Are you traveling with someone?" She asked curiously and Possum spun around to reveal a Opossum sticking out of the back of his travel pack.

"It's just me and my little brother." Y/n's face lit up.

"Possum! He's adorable!" She covered her mouth and noticed his little matching jacket with him.

"Yeah the family resemblance is pretty intense." He smirked pushing his hair back.

"You guys are more than welcome to set up camp here. I was just about to start dinner if you wanted to join me? I don't know how you feel about hot dogs-"

"Love em. I love dogs...and encased meats. Just not dog meat.." Y/n laughed shaking her head at him. She sat by the fire cooking dinner while Possum started setting up his big orange tent. It didn't take him very long considering he had done it so often. He knew this tent was only going to last a few more weeks and he would need to get a new one if he planned to survive on the road for much longer.

Possum plopped down next to Y/n on a log by the fire, little brother in hand as he sat him on a pillow next to him.

"Thanks for letting us hang out. Most of the people we come across out here are...wild." Possum took a hotdog from the plate Y/n offered him and he noticed little crackers and cheese.

"Those are for him!" She swatted Possum's hand. He place the snack plate on the pillow and watched his little brother go to town on it.

"Hey he likes it. Don't be too nice to him or he'll never want to leave." He explained eating the hotdog.

"I think it's sweet you have matching coats." She commented. Possum looked at his coat and then at his little brothers.

"Wow I didn't even notice that. I guess we have the same taste in clothes too." Possum chuckled.

"I never asked, are you from Emerald Triangle?" She asked sipping a drink.

"No I'm just a wayward traveler. I've been thinking about going home soon...I miss my mom...but don't tell her that." Possum put his hand on her knee and she laughed.

"Your secret is safe with me but I'm sure she misses you too." She smiled making Possum blush.

"How long are you sticking around here for? I've been here a while and you've seemed to kind of settled into the chaos of Emerald." He wiped the crumbs off his hands and Y/b shrugged.

"Still saving up a little more cash before passing through. I haven't decided where I want to go next. Any suggestions?" She asked seeing his eyes grow wide with excitement. He ran into his tent and she could hear him going through his bags before emerging with a map and sat directly next to her.

"Where do I start? This place as the best sunrises and this is where all the pretty waterfalls are. Don't go here because everything smells like that weird dried up flowery shit that grandma's keep on coffee tables..." Possum was searching his brain for the word

"Potpourri?" Y/n said confused. Possum snapped his fingers.

"That's it! That shit is awful and the smell gets stuck in your hair." He shivered like the memory made him physically ill.

"Noted. Do not go there." She laughed as Possum spent most of the evening showing her all the places he's been. He had been to way more places than her and she loved hearing his stories. The only thing that stopped him from continuing his story telling was the snores coming from the Opossum next to him.

"He's a terrible bunk mate. Snores like a blender." Possum whispered.

"I'll let you guys get to bed then." She stood up and Possum stood with her.

"Um...we'll be out here if you need anything. J-just give us a shout." He offered a sweet smile and she gave his arm a squeeze.

"Stay warm Possum. Just knock on the window if you need anything." She offered and he nodded sitting back down on the log as the fire was still going. He watched her walk into the RV and shut the door. She had a view of him sitting by the fire from her bedroom window and she couldn't help but stare at him. He was so interesting and despite him seeming impaired most of the time, she could tell that it had become a part of his personality. He still was able to carry conversations and keep her interest even when he started to rattle off about aliens and the government.

She wouldn't mind him sticking close by until she decides to take off out of Emerald Triangle.

˙⋆ ⁎⋆✩ Meal inspiration ✩° .* ✮˙

Do you struggle on a daily basis when it comes to thinking of something to eat? Are you tired of eating the same thing or do you want to get some new ideas? Then you might like this post!

I've been working on several meals and snack ideas and compiled them into one post. I'll be covering breakfast/lunch, drinks, and snacks.

I highly recommend making a small amount first so you can experiment a little bit and see if you even like it at all. Just be creative with it and try not to waste food (｡･ω･｡)ﾉ♡

If I come up with more ideas I'll definitely make a part 2! Tell me what recipe you liked the most and share some of your ideas in the comment section or pm me (*˘︶˘*).｡*♡

.• °★ Breakfast & Lunch ★° • .

I chose to merge Breakfast and Lunch because I feel like the recipes could be eaten for both times of the day. It depends on what you prefer (人 •͈ᴗ•͈)

Grains

- Porridge (~180-250 kcal)

(Wholegrain, Oats and more). I love making sweetened porridge with cinnamon and skimmed milk or vegan milk (oat milk or light soy milk). You can also make it more nutritious and filling by adding fruits!

Ingredients

- Grains 40~50 gr (depends on how thick you like your porridge. I prefer it on the thicker side) (~175 kcal)

- skimmed milk or vegan milk 300 ml (~90 kcal)

- (optional) spices (ground cinnamon, -nutmeg, -cloves) or vanilla extract

- (optional) add fruits if you like??

You can prepare the oats/grains in a pan or in a microwave safe bowl with intervals.

(TIP: Oats like to soak up moisture. You can also make these one night beforehand without heating it up. These are called overnight oats. Don't like the result? You can always just heat it up anyways ^-^)

- Cereals (~200-300 kcal)

I really like cereal but it's always so high in calories. I do feel like going for something like granola and muesli are the better options. You can eat those with 0% fat (vegan) yogurt, milk and quark. The instructions are pretty self-explanatory but you can try being creative with this by adding fruits (more volume) (^～^;)ゞ

- Rice Cakes (~260-360 kcal)

It depends on what brand you use but I suggest going for flavoured rice cakes. This adds more depth to the end product and there are many low-cal options! Snack-a-Jacks has very nice options varying from 30-61 kcal per rice cake.

You can go for sweetened rice cake and add toppings to your liking! I love going for a chocolate flavoured rice cake (61 kcal) topped with a bit of a chocolate spread (~59 kcal) and some berries (~25 kcal). It's so good!

If you prefer a savory meal, try going for a BBQ Bell pepper flavoured rice cake (37 kcal) topped with low-fat cream cheese spread (~40 kcal) with herbs, lettuce and some cucumber!

- Crackers & Knäckebröd

Likewise rice cakes, these have some nice options varying between ~24 and 59 kcal. I like topping these with savory stuff or with a fruit spread (like jam or marmalade).

I like topping this with low-fat cream cheese (~40 kcal) herbs, smoked salmon (~45 kcal) and cucumber. Very delicious and nutritious!

- Breads (200-450 kcal?)

Honestly, bread is becoming a fear food for me but it doesn't have to be this way. There are a lot of small breads that can be enjoyed without panicking! You can buy pre-baked breads like thin bagels that you only have to prepare in the oven or air-fryer. Depending on what you choose, one serving of this bread can be about 100-346 kcal.

Let's say you have a baked wholegrain triangle shaped bun (~270 kcal). You can slice this in half and now you have 2 pieces. You can add toppings like a low-fat sauce (mayo, cream cheese etc.) (~40-60 kcal), something that has protein like a slice of ham, salmon or vegan tuna (~25-45 kcal), some veggies like lettuce, cucumber and or cherry tomatoes and finally add herbs like chives, thyme, dill and rosemary. It all depends on what you like but you can really enjoy bread without feeling bad! Depending on what ingredients you used this yields two servings (two halves of the bun) making it around 200-250 kcal per serving.

You can also do this with a toasted piece of bread making it even lower in calories!

- Rolls (~200-400 kcal)

I'm talking about (wholewheat) tortillas and rice paper. They are so great! There are so many recipes online for wraps, burritos and spring rolls and more. you can get really creative with this.

I really love making wraps! I usually use a big wholewheat tortilla (~178kcal) and fill it up with something that contains lots of protein, veggies, a creamy substance and herbs. You can eat these as, warm up the tortilla beforehand in a pan or put it in a double grill. It really depends on what you're going for.

Some examples;

- Herby chicken wrap

A wrap filled with baked chicken breast seasoned with herbs, pepper and salt, some light mayo, bell pepper and lettuce.

- Light cream-cheese & smoked salmon wrap

A wrap filled with lettuce, (optionally baked in a pan) smoked salmon, low-fat cream cheese with herbs.

- hummus & veggies wrap

A wrap filled with smoked/ grilled bell peppers, arugula, lettuce and hummus.

Ever tried fresh spring rolls? I highly suggest making these since they are low in calories and so healthy and delicious! There are so many recipes available online and there are so many vegan options for these as well.

.• ° ★ Drinks ★ ° •.

I'm not saying that you should replace all your meals with Diet Coke. This section is to give you some perspective of how you can make your beverages more interesting or even replace a meal.

Meal replacements

This section is supposed to give you some insights on how you can make a healthy drink that is nutritious enough to replace a meal.

- Smoothies (~ 150-200 kcal)

I love making smoothies! You can REALLY get creative with this. I have to say I've never tried making smoothies with veggies but I do encourage you to try it all out!

My go-to basic recipe for this :

~ 1 cup of some fruits

~ 1/2 cup of a low-fat yogurt/ quark

~1/4 -1/2 cup of something liquid like skimmed milk or light soy milk (depends on how thick you like your smoothies)

(~ optionally, you can add flavoured protein powder and oats to make it more nutritious)

I do suggest to taste the mixture during this whole process! Sometimes you'll need to add more liquid or more fruit. I also like to add flavours such as zero sugar vanilla syrup or cinnamon and nutmeg depending on the fruits I used.

- Meal replacement shakes: upgraded

I've tried meal replacement shakes before and I found the taste to be quite weird to be honest. I noticed that adding fruit made it a whole lot better! This is basically a variation to smoothies but it's really specifically for these kinds of shakes.

There is no recipe for this because it depends on the brand but I recommend fruity or vanilla flavours. You just follow the instructions on the packaging by adding the powder and the liquid to your blender. Add the fruits to your liking (I'd say about half a cup) and blend until smooth.

Cold Drinks

I really like cold drinks like iced coffee lattes or fruit milks but I honestly forget to drink most of the time. Maybe these suggestions will spark some joy and make you drink those (at least) 2 Liters that you need!

- Coffee (~0-60 kcal)

It sounds so basic and stupid but I really prefer my coffee cold and creamy. Even though it sounds so basic you can really get creative with coffee. There are over 20 kinds of coffee blends! Imagine what you can whip up at home :D

My go-to coffee is a latte with sweetener, skimmed milk or light soy and a low calorie syrup like hazelnut, vanilla or caramel.

- Fruity Milk (~ 50-100 kcal)

You can drink this as a snack, self-care drink or to include some fruit in your meal. Whatever reason you may have it is delicious! You cut up some fruit like banana, strawberry or mango and add it your blender with some skimmed or vegan milk. Depending on how much you want to make, I'd say start with a 1:1 ratio. 1/2 cup of fruit and 1/2 cup of liquid. You can add either one of the two as you go.

I recommend tasting the end result before serving. If it's lacking sweetness you can add a bit more fruit or use sweetener!

- Flavoured Water/Iced Tea (~0-5 kcal)

This is a must-have in the summer because it's just so refreshing and it's easy as well!

You basically store some fruits and herbs in some water. I suggest a big bottle or a pitcher.

Add the flavouring (make sure to clean your fruits very well. I even suggest leaving them in a water bath for 5 minutes in case there are insects and pesticides.) For the flavours you can use fruits, herbs, spices and more! Just anything that you would like. I love the combination of watermelon, strawberry and cucumber. But sometimes a simple flavour like lemon or lime can be so good as well!

I suggest adding some sweetener if you like your end result a bit sweet. You can compare this to making (iced) tea!

Iced tea is very easy to make. Just brew your favourite tea and add some sweetener then leave it for about 5-10 minutes. Now you can just store it in the fridge and after about 30 minutes you have iced tea. If it's too strong, just add some water.

(TIP: Use carbonated water for the flavoured water recipe for a fizzy result! If you like your iced tea fizzy as well, just make sure that you make a highly concentrated tea and mix the end result with carbonated water and voila!)

- Zero Calorie Drinks/Energy Drinks

Honestly, these can be lifesavers if you lack the energy or you crave a coke or something. There are so many brands that sell zero calorie drinks like Coca Cola and Monster. I also really like the brand 'Candy Can. They have a very cute assortment of candy flavoured drinks. There are a lot of different brands out there and I recommend trying it all out!

.• ° ★ Snacks ★ ° •.

I don't snack that much but when I do I usually end up bingeing. It can be hard to control this kind of behaviour when you don't live on your own or when you are too tired to make something. That's why I'll try to help you with this section (^-^)/

Veggies & Fruits

I know it sounds boring but hear me out, fruits and veggies are low in calories, high in fibre and vitamins and good for your stool. For these reasons and more you should really try to eat these as a snack. And you don't have to eat these plain!

- Veggies and Hummus/Dip (~100-150kcal)

Sure, some people enjoy their veggies plain or with a bit of seasoning but for other people this just doesn't cut it. It's too plain or it doesn't satisfy you enough. This is why you can cut up your veggies in sticks and dip them in a yummy paste like hummus or a salad.

With salad I mean a thick paste usually made out of mayo, seasoning and eggs, fish or meat. I think it's a dutch thing but you can easily make this yourself! My favourite is a chicken curry salad.

- Mixed Fruit Salad (~50-100 kcal)

This is basically a salad made of cut up fruits and thrown into a bowl. I really love eating these and you can add a bit of low-fat yogurt, sweetener and lemon juice to make a fruity fresh salad!

- Frozen Fruit Bark (~25-100kcal)

These are very fun to make if you have some time left and want to prep a future snack. I saw a video online and it honestly looked so nice. You basically mix some low-fat yogurt with sweetener or honey and some fruit. Pop them in the freezer and cut them up in bars!

- Fruit Popsicle (~20-60kcal)

These are so refreshing during spring and summer! You basically make a smoothie out of fruit, optionally sweetener and yogurt. You pour the mixture into your popsicle moulds and throw them in the freezer. I really love making these with mangoes and low-fat vanilla yogurt/ quark. For a creamy texture you have to make sure to blend thoroughly until it's smooth and there mustn't be any lumps or bits!

Grains

- Mini Flavoured Crackers/Rice Cakes (69-96kcal)

These are perfect replacements for crisps in my opinion! They are crispy and come in various flavours. From sweet to savory!

- Mini Wholegrain (Flavoured) Cookies (~200-250 kcal for a whole package)

These are great if you have a bit of a sweet tooth. You could even finish a whole pack without feeling too guilty. !

- Wholegrain Bars (~100-150kcal)

You can make these yourself or buy them at the grocery store. I feel like you'd be better off financially by making them yourself. This way you have more control over the size and ingredients. There are many recipes for these!

Lila was sitting on the small leather couch in Chan’s studio, body curled against his own, the two of them enjoying some alone time together.

It’d been quite a few days since they could do that, and she’d missed him so much that the second he’d texted her asking if she was free, she’d told him yes.

 And it was normal for them to spend any free time they could locked away in whatever room Chan chose; his bedroom, the living room on the rare occasions no one was home, his studio, the library…

They would watch movies or play video games; sometimes Lila would read while Chan worked on music just so he had the company and, other times, he was supposed to be working and instead the two of them talked for hours, no one getting anything done.

Sometimes, they didn’t do much talking at all, too wrapped up in the feel of one another, buried beneath blankets or sheets, lips melded together, breathing as one, holding each other close as if it might be the last time they ever got to hook up…

But this time…

Chan had gone all out.

Lila reached for her glass of wine sitting on the table that Chan had brought in from the living room, savoring the sweet taste as the man glanced over at her, smiling softly.

“Do you like it?” he asked.

“I love it,” she replied with a giggle. “Where did you get it?”

“Somewhere Felix told me about, actually,” Chan said, sounding somewhat surprised. “Can you believe he knows wine like that?”

“Actually…” Lila thought about it, swooshing the contents of her glass ever so slightly. “Yes.”

They both laughed at that just as she was glancing down at the large spread of food, the tray taking up most of the table.

Chan had set everything up before Lila had even gotten there. 

String lights hanging from the ceiling, casting a warm glow upon the room. A projector sitting off to the side, a sheet hanging on the wall, Strong Girl Bong Soon playing- one of Lila’s favorite dramas- and a charcuterie board filled with all of her favorite things.

“This is good, right?” Chan asked with a laugh, motioning towards the tray. “I don’t really make these things, but every time you do, they’re so good, so-”

Lila turned, watching him shrug.

“I looked up a picture online and gave it my best shot.”

He grinned proudly, making her giggle, and she had to admit, the tray did look pretty damn good.

For someone who’d never made a board before, Chan sure went through a lot of effort.

Plucking some cheese and a cracker off the tray, she felt warm and content inside, knowing the man did all this for her.

They hadn’t gotten to go out together lately, both way too busy juggling all the work that was coming with this comeback, and Lila was just happy to be here.

Chan- as always- brought such a homey comfort whenever he was with her.

If she could, she would probably spend forever with him.

For a moment, they laid there together, Lila’s head snuggled into his chest, Chan’s arm wrapped around her body, fingers absentmindedly sliding up and down her back, leaving more warmth and subtle goosebumps across her skin.

“This drama is ridiculous,” Chan chuckled, watching the main character lift a car, chucking it across the street.

“It’s good!” Lila insisted, laughing too. “I like it.”

“So does Hyunjin,” he said. “You guys actually have quite a bit in common, you know.”

Lila smiled; yeah she already knew that.

“I know.”

He grinned at her before turning back to the screen, but when she looked at him, his eyes were slightly unfocused, like he was thinking hard about something…

And Lila knew Chan well enough to know that he probably had something to say, but hadn’t yet.

“What is it?” she asked quietly, the man quickly turning back to look at her.

“What?”

His eyebrows were raised in question, but she could still see the slight contemplation in his expression.

“I can tell you want to say something,” she said, giving him a small smile. “What’s going on?”

Chan chuckled with a shake of his head.

“Guess nothing gets past you, huh?”

He was teasing, and they laughed together before he was turning down the drama, a small lull in the background as he turned to face her.

“I just…”

He was trying to find the right words, moving his hands around.

“I just wanted to say I’m sorry�� for how… weird I’ve been lately.”

Lila tilted her head slightly.

“What do you mean?”

“You know, I’ve just been, uh-” Chan rubbed the back of his neck, looking up at her through his lashes, smiling guiltily. “Well, I feel like I’ve been a bit cranky.”

The man didn’t elaborate, only glanced around the studio for a moment, but Lila knew exactly what he meant.

The red in his eyes

She waited for him to say more; to tell her what was going on, if the red meant angry like she thought it did, and what it did to him.

Did it hurt? Was he okay? Was there something wrong Lila could fix for him?

However, Chan only pressed his lips together, swallowing hard, even just skirting on the subject seeming to bother him as he dropped his hand from his neck.

“I’ve just been really busy and stressed with this comeback,” he told her honestly, eyes locking with hers once more. “And I… haven’t been myself, one hundred percent.”

And it was on the tip of her tongue; Lila wanted to ask him more.

Wanted to ask him all the questions she’d had for the past several weeks now.

But there was something about the way Chan was looking at her right now; something weirdly sensitive about him, like this subject was eating him alive, like something was wrong and he didn’t- couldn’t- talk about it.

So- knowing Maddie would probably kill her if she was here- Lila bit her bottom lip, snuggling her shoulder into him in a make-shift hug.

“It’s okay,” she told him. “I understand… This comeback has been busy and stressful.”

Chan smiled a little- the soft, sincere one she swore she only saw when he was with her- her stomach flipping at the sight, his hand coming up to brush some hair out of her face.

“Thank you,” he said quietly. “You always understand.”

She could see the slight relief on his face; that he was thankful she hadn’t asked more questions, grateful she hadn’t pushed him when the subject was so obviously a tough one-

And Lila felt better about not asking- about not worrying about ruining the moment and just letting him talk to her about it when he was ready.

In the end, she knew Chan would.

Right?

Before she could elaborate anymore on her own thoughts, Chan’s palm was sliding to cup her face, and he was leaning close, swooping down and pressing his lips against hers.

It was gentle but still so lovely, Lila’s body glowing at the feel of it, her body turning towards him on instinct, Chan’s thumb caressing her cheek-

He pulled back, their eyes meeting once more, and Lila could see it again- that bright blue- the color lingering so long, she wasn’t sure it was going to change back. 

But then his eyes were flickering again, changing to purple, and Chan’s smile went slightly one-sided.

“What did I do to deserve you?”

There were butterflies in Lila’s stomach, the tickly feeling making her giggle, a giddy bubble in her throat as Chan was already leaning close again-

“You can thank BamBam,” she all but whispered. “He’s the one who posted the job opening last year-”

Chan chuckled, but with his lips so close to hers, Lila’s breath was hitching-

“I’ll make sure to send him my thanks.”

Then he was closing the little distance between them, pressing his lips harder against her own, other hand running up the length of her arm-

And Lila had never experienced anything like it- something deep within her seeming to push her towards him, her body adjusting just as Chan was doing the same, his mouth never leaving hers…

Her back was on the leather cushions, head resting on the pillow, and Chan was laying on his side beside her, body hot and pressed against her own.

She was running her hand up his arm before carding her fingers through his hair and he was deepening the kiss, turning his head, exhaling against her lips, making her heart skip a beat.

The heat in the room was rising, the rhythm of their kiss increasing, the strong incubus powers that always came with Chan sliding through every nerve in Lila’s body- burning, liquid pleasure causing her to yank on his hair, almost more than she could handle-

Chan groaned deep in his throat, body rolling more completely on top of her. Her arms were wrapping around his neck, his hand sliding up her shirt, squeezing her waist, nails digging into her skin in the best of ways-

Everything with him was overwhelming- the incubus powers still coursing through her veins, hot and desirous and intense. Lila could feel every contour of his body, his lips soft and urgent as they kissed, like he couldn’t get enough of her.

His leg slipped in between her own, hips moving against hers, and they moaned together, Chan’s tongue sliding gently across her bottom lip, Lila giving him access with a gasp-

And there was more fire seeping into her core, pulling her to him once more, Lila sighing at the strong urgency of it. Chan was moving his hips again, his breath hitching against her lips, hand squeezing her waist a little harder now, that perfect amount of roughness-

He was made for her, she was sure of it, the feeling of just this sending her heart racing, pulse in her ears, body flushed and pliant beneath him, Chan kissing her just right and touching her just right as she scratched across his shoulders.

And then he was shuddering with a deep moan when she was dragging her nails down his broad back, his hand slipping on her waist, forehead pressing against hers as his hips rolled into her once more, Lila feeling just how turned on he was now-

“Lila-”

His voice was strained, asking without asking if they could do more; getting that incubus consent he always needed.

Like she would ever say no.

She slid her hands up his back in answer, lifting her hips to grind against him before gripping his shoulders, telling him yes-

Chan was half laughing, half groaning, kissing her hard again.

“But you’ll miss your show,” he muttered.

He was teasing of course, Lila’s breath catching in her throat at the hotness of his voice before she was pulling him closer.

“It’s okay-”

She whispered, feeling Chan smile against her lips.

“-I’ve seen it before anyway.”

“Okay, so tell me everything.”

Maddie’s eyes were shining a bit, stuffing a pair of Vans into her suitcase as she looked at Lila.

“Everything?” Lila asked with a smirk. “Even-”

“Okay, obviously you and Chan had sex-”

Maddie laughed, shoving the shoes into the massive pile of clothes in her case, voice strained with the effort.

“-Please spare me the details on that-”

Lila giggled.

“But, you know… What was the date like? What did he do?!”

It had been two days since her evening spent in Chan’s studio, and Lila honestly couldn’t believe this was the first time the girls had time to talk.

The last forty-eight hours had been such chaos; practices, interviews, appointments, performances. They’d been splitting up, often having two things going on at the same time, only exchanging a quick “Hi!” or “Good luck!” before running off to take care of whatever was needed.

But they were all leaving for Japan tomorrow evening, and the two of them had congregated in Maddie’s room for the evening, catching up on everything while they packed.

“Well…”

Lila was already getting smiley just thinking about the other night, standing in their shared bathroom and pulling her soap from the shower.

“He hung string lights all over the ceiling and had this projector that was playing Strong Girl-”

“Oh my god, holy marriage material,” Maddie joked, laughing at herself. “Why is Chan so freaking amazing?”

“I don’t know,” Lila replied with a giggle.

She often asked herself the same thing.

“Then he had this huge charcuterie board,” she continued, moving to the sink and yanking open her makeup drawer. “And it was so cute, you could tell he tried really hard. He even folded the salamis!”

“Into little flowers?” her best friend asked, suddenly appearing in the doorway, eyes wide. “Sorry, just had to grab my brush-”

She picked up the hair brush from the counter, Lila nodding quickly.

“Yes, into little flowers! And there was wine… I guess Felix suggested it.”

“Felix helped him with the date?”

Maddie had turned to her with raised eyebrows.

“Yeah,” Lila replied with a shrug. “I guess so…”

The older smiled, looking pleased.

“Huh… that’s interesting.”

She walked away, talking again before Lila could ask.

“So, then what?”

“Well… we watched the drama for a bit and… uh…”

Her cheeks went hot as she sifted through her makeup drawer, remembering…

Couch leather slick against the bare skin of her back, Chan’s breathless moans in her ear, Lila arching her body into his, turning her head to the side, watching his fingers curl into the cushion beneath them as he moved-

“Okay got it-”

Maddie was in the doorway again, laughing at Lila’s now bright red face.

“-guess there’s nothing else to tell.”

She was teasing a little, grabbing her curl cream from the counter and moving back to the bedroom.

“I’m glad it was good! You deserve it, and- as usual- Chan sounds like a dreamboat.”

Lila followed behind her, having everything she needed and heading back to her suitcase.

“What about you?” she asked. “You’ve been awfully quiet about this whole Han situation…”

Maddie dropped her curl cream, quickly disappearing behind the side of the bed to get it, groaning loudly.

“I mean- there’s nothing to- It was just- you know-”

But the girl wasn’t making any sense.

And this is exactly how it had been when Maddie had texted Lila two days ago about it. All she’d said was “Omg, me and Han just hooked up”, but when Lila had asked for details, Maddie had been conveniently too busy, promising she’d say later.

“Was it good?” Lila asked. “Did you like it? It seems like you liked it, bestie-”

“You don’t know that-”

Her voice was muffled, now reaching under the bed.

“Well considering you won’t talk about it, I’d say I do.”

Lila was being snarky, but Maddie snorted under her breath, sighing loudly.

“Basically, he and I ran into each other because I was getting hot chocolate- which shit, I gotta tell you about that, too- Ow!”

She tried to stand up too early, smacking her head on the bed. Maddie rubbed the top of her head as she stood up properly, scowling slightly, curl cream in her hand once more.

“Eunae broke up with Han,” she said with another sigh, tossing the cream in her suitcase. “He was honestly pretty upset about it…”

Lila frowned a little, realizing this made sense; Han and Eunae had been very tense the few times she had seen them together over the last couple days, and at one point, Eunae had switched with Songyi to work on Seungmin instead.

“Yikes,” she said, cringing. “He seemed to really like her. And I thought she liked him, too?”

“Yeah, well, apparently she didn’t want anything-” Maddie put her hands up for air quotes. “-serious.”

“And Han said it was serious?”

“Yep,” Maddie replied with a nod. “Took her on dates and everything. I don’t know why she changed her mind, but she broke up with him, I asked him if he wanted to talk about it, he said he did, so… We went to the library, and…”

Lila raised an eyebrow, looking up from her bag where she’d been carefully placing her things.

“And you liked it.”

“No-” Maddie shook her head with a laugh. “Okay, yes? I mean, he just… we weirdly understand each other, you know? Like I know we’ve said Han and I have stuff in common, but like…”

She paused, looking thoughtful.

“I don’t know,” she shrugged. “I could like… feel his emotions or some shit-”

“It’s because you both have anxiety,” Lila told her, not nearly as surprised as Maddie seemed to be. “And I think you can empathize with him a little more than maybe some other people…”

“Yeah, I guess…” Maddie swallowed. “Well, we- I mean, I asked him if he wanted my help to heal him, and it was… nice. A lot nicer than I was expecting-”

Lila watched her, feeling amused.

“He didn’t kiss you, did he?”

Maddie shook her head instantly.

“No. I wouldn’t let him.”

“Good.”

Probably not a good idea to open up that can of worms, Lila thought to herself.

“But anyway, I mean he kinda just- helped me forget for a minute-”

“So he’s your stress relief, not Hyunjin.”

Maddie blanched, wrinkling her nose.

“Uh no.”

Lila laughed at her own joke, before realizing-

“What was Han helping you forget?”

“Well, I…”

Maddie was tucking some hair behind her ear, avoiding Lila’s eyes.

“Jeongin kissed me. After Cosmic Bowling.”

Oh my god

Lila had completely forgotten about the bowling date!

“Is that… Good?”

“Yeah, it was… really good actually; the whole evening.”

Maddie told Lila about the entire experience- the pizza, how she’d lost to Jeongin, how they’d held hands in the car on the way home…

“And then he just…”

She stopped, a smile on her face.

“Kissed me.”

She looked as if she was still surprised this had happened.

“I… think he might like me.”

Lila couldn’t help snorting with laughter, shaking her head.

“No shit, Maddie. Come on; did you think all those hang outs were just hang outs?”

“I-”

She ran a quick hand through her hair.

“I had my suspicions that it might be more, but he never said anything,” she was trying to defend herself, looking a little distressed. “I didn’t say anything either- which was my fault, I admit it, I should’ve asked what we were doing- but he didn’t make any moves, Jeongin was just sweet to me like always-”

“That’s because he’s always liked you,” Lila said more gently.

Maddie stared at her, biting her lip.

“I guess I didn’t want to think about it too hard.”

Well, Lila thought. At least she’s honest

“Did you… like the kiss?”

“Yes?” Maddie’s answer sounded more like a question, and she was fidgeting nervously, flattening her clothes in her suitcase. “I mean yes, I did like it. It was sweet, and gentle, and of course he’s handsome. I got that like, warmth, too, you know? But I just…”

She paused again, and Lila had a feeling she knew what was going on here.

“Is it Hyunjin?”

Her voice was quiet, and Maddie didn’t look up right away, staring at her suitcase for another moment before growling, letting her face fall into her hands.

“What am I doing?!”

Lila couldn’t help but chuckle at Maddie’s dramatics.

“It’s okay to like Hyunjin, Maddie-”

“Is it?” she asked sarcastically, voice muffled by her hands.

“Yes,” Lila rolled her eyes, laughing again. “Are you admitting that you do, finally, or-?”

Her best friend looked up at that, glaring playfully.

“No. I don’t like him, I just-”

“Thought about him when Jeongin kissed you. Seems normal.”

Maddie laughed out loud, throwing a sock across the room at Lila. It missed her entirely, and they watched it fall to the carpet before looking at one another once more.

“No matter what… craziness is going on in my brain right now…” Maddie shook her head. “Hyunjin and I would never be good for each other.”

“And why is that?” she asked.

Lila couldn’t help thinking both her best friend and Hyunjin were in an insane amount of denial.

She still remembered that morning so many months ago, when Maddie called her in a panic, Lila asleep next to Chan for the first time- still in the afterglow of it- and the girl had been talking a mile a minute about how Hyunjin had just “showed up, and I wasn’t expecting it. Asking for help even though he didn’t need it. I mean I told him no at first, ‘cause fuck that, you know? But then he told me he was curious, and…”

Well, needless to say, Maddie and Hyunjin had been hooking up ever since.

And even when her best friend swore up and down they were only doing it because they were “strictly compatible in bed”, Lila begged to differ.

She’d seen Hyunjin since this whole thing started; the fondness in his eyes when he looked at Maddie, the change in him- so much happier than before- and his overall attitude in general.

And she’d seen Maddie, too.

Every time she came back from hanging out with Hyunjin, she was a little more glowy. Even just talking to him- when the two would exchange their usual light banter- Maddie seemed so smitten it was hard to believe she wasn’t in love…

Lila thought it was incredible the two of them could be so stubbornly blind.

“We just bicker like all the time and he’s always teasing me-”

Maddie was unfolding and refolding shirts, clearly agitated.

“-and we’re constantly calling each other out on our shit-”

“Maybe you both need that,” Lila interrupted with a shrug.

She dropped the black shirt in her hand, mouth falling open.

“Are you shipping this right now?”

Lila laughed loudly.

“I’m just saying… Maybe it’s not so bad, being with someone as passionate as you. Why are you fighting this so hard?”

It was a question that was long overdue.

“Well, for one, I never said I have feelings for Hyunjin-”

Lila gave her a look, but Maddie ignored it.

“-for two, even if I did, he’s never once showed any interest in reciprocating said feelings that could be non-existent-”

Lila rolled her eyes, pinching the bridge of her nose.

“-and for three…” Maddie paused, and she looked at her for a moment, watching the girl’s face soften a bit. “I… like Jeongin. A lot.”

And Lila wasn’t an idiot- she knew this, too.

She knew Maddie was always happy when she was with Jeongin; knew the girl was content with him and that Jeongin was more than content with her-

“He’s sweet and patient and awesome…” she ran a hand through her hair. “Pretty much everything a girl would want in a boyfriend… if a boyfriend was something they… wanted-”

“So, is that girl you?” Lila asked softly.

Maddie looked at her, biting her lip.

“It should be.”

“But is it?”

After being friends with Maddie for as long as she had been, Lila knew it was important to be pushy with her sometimes; otherwise she’d spend all day running circles in her own head.

“I mean…”

Lila closed her suitcase, zipping it up before turning around with flourish.

“Picture this,” she said. “You go on a date with Jeongin on the beach; your favorite.”

“Okay…” Maddie was already smiling warmly.

“Picture it in your head. Walking on the sand, holding hands, talking, eating at a nice restaurant with an awesome balcony, or maybe just having a picnic right there while the sun sets or something.”

The older nodded.

“Maybe you guys are like kissing and… stuff-”

They both giggled, Maddie nodding again. And as she thought about it, her smile grew, the older tucking some hair behind her ear before looking at Lila.

“Well, thank you for that visual, it was lovely-”

“Now,” Lila grinned wickedly. “Imagine the same thing with Hyunjin.”

Maddie crossed her arms in front of her chest.

“He’d probably just throw me in the ocean.”

“No he wouldn’t and you know it.”

They laughed together again, and Lila waited, watching Maddie bite her lip, imagining the same date in her head with Hyunjin.

And- satisfied- Lila watched her best friend's cheeks turn just the faintest of pinks before she was hiding her face in her hands again, crying out loudly.

“Bestie please, can we change the subject?” she all but whined. “I can’t… like- Think about this-”

And before Lila could tell her she really needed to- that was kind of the point- Maddie was lifting her face from her hands, hair flying in all directions, eyes wide as saucers-

“Oh my god-” she smacked her palm to her forehead. “I just realized. I need to-”

She was shaking her head, gathering her words.

“Lila… I found out what the eye colors mean. Han and I talked about it that night.”

“You did?” she asked, hands falling from her suitcase in surprise. “Like the red?”

“Not the red,” Maddie was shaking her head, pressing her lips together. “The blue.”

She seemed a bit nervous, and that had Lila’s heart jumping a little.

“It means… It means Chan is falling in love, bestie. Um. With you.”

Lila was frozen for a moment, not sure if she’d even heard her right.

There was an immediate jolt in her chest, Lila’s stomach twisting into knots, not sure exactly what to say-

Chan is… falling in love with me?

“But it’s more complicated than just that, because-” her best friend's words cut right through her thoughts. “Well- saying I love you for incubi is like a… connection thing-”

Maddie explained everything Han had told her; about the bonding, how once I love you is said, the two are bound as one, the incubus only gaining energy from the one human-

“-and yeah I think that…” her best friend grimaced. “That complicates things a bit.”

Lila was still a little struck, staring at the older as she tried to process everything.

Chan was… falling in love with her.

There was something like fireworks exploding somewhere near her stomach, a blush spreading fast across her cheeks. 

There was a bubble of pure happiness lodging itself in her throat, making it hard to breathe, but in a good way, an excited way, the kind of thing that made Lila want to sing and dance all over the room-

But there was also a small ringing in the back of her mind, growing louder, bringing Lila back to reality, reminding her that as wonderful as this was, things were- like Maddie had said…

Complicated.

“Shit,” Lila muttered under her breath, playing with the ends of her hair, not sure exactly how to feel. “I don’t know what to do…”

She knew how important Chan’s job was to him; why it was worrying to him that he would fall in love, have to rely on just her, be so connected to a person when he already led such a busy life.

But it’s already just me, Lila couldn’t help thinking.

She had exclusively been Chan’s only source of energy since the first time they’d hooked up, so if they were bonded…

Would it be much different?

But she knew Chan was a professional man; that making things more complicated for the group- no matter how unlikely- was not something he wanted.

And she also knew how much Chan was in love with his music; maybe he was worried he couldn’t have both-

“I think…”

Maddie broke the temporary silence, slowly closing her suitcase, speaking carefully.

“I think Chan is just trying to process everything. I doubt any of these guys have ever been in something as serious as this-”

Lila nodded.

Bound to one person indefinitely…

It was a big deal.

She swallowed hard, feeling like she needed to process a bit herself, her excited racing heart conflicting with her worried, fretful thoughts-

“Yeah…” she sighed. “I think you’re right.”

Serves 6-8 persons This is my very own creation for a festive Charcuterie Board made in the shape of a Christmas Tree! If you are feeling creative and would like to try something impressive, this would make a stunning centerpiece for your guests on a cocktail party or dinner-to be served as 1st course-on Christmas or the New Year. It’s not hard to make, it just needs a bit of time to make the shape correctly and alternate the ingredients, to achieve a wonderful color sequence. But I do believe the result I have created is spectacular, if I can say so myself.

INGREDIENTS: Savory, Cold Cuts and Cheeses: • 6 slices Greek Salami • 6 slices Greek Prosciutto • 20 Green Olives, pitted • 12 small, square Crackers and 2 red strings to tie them • 50 gr / 1.75 oz Greek Feta Cheese, in 10-12 cubes • 50 gr / 1.75 oz any hard Cheese, like Gouda or Graviera, cut in 10-12 cubes • 70 gr / 2.5 oz roasted (salted) Mixed Nuts

Fruits: • 10 Raspberries (washed) • 30 Blackberries (washed) • 10 Green Grapes, pitted (washed) • 1 Thick Star from Star-Carambola Fruit (washed) • A handful Pomegranate Seeds • 2 large dried Dates

Vegetables: • 6 Red and 6 Orange Grape Mini Tomatoes (washed) • ½ Cucumber (washed) • 20 gr / 0.7 oz Lamb’s Lettuce (washed) • 6-8 twigs fresh Rosemary

To serve: • 1 large wooden board • 6-8 Toothpicks, decorated • 2 Knives for cheese

METHOD: A. Make the festive board: 1. Place the square crackers the one on top of the other, making 2 stacks and tie each stack with a red string to resemble small parcels-gifts.

  2. Place them on your festive board. Reserve.

3. Place the 2 dates in the middle of the bottom of the board to represent the tree trunk.

4. Now start placing all your ingredients, forming a line with each ingredient, alternating colours and tastes. 5. For the bottom of the tree, start with the half cucumber, which is cut-shaped like a swirl. 6. Next, place the hard cheese cubes in 1 line. 7. Fold each salami slice in four and place the one next the other, resembling tulips.

8. Place the raspberries for the next line. 9. Then scatter a line of greens (lamb’s lettuce). 10. On top of them, place the red and orange mini tomatoes, the one next to the other, alternating the 2 colors. 11. Next, make a line of feta cheese cubes. 12. Place the star fruit in the middle of the top of your board, resembling the top of the Xmas tree. 13. Make another line with the green grapes.

14. Take the prosciutto slices and wrap them around like delicate roses, and then place them the one next to the other, in one line. 15. For the next line, place a heap of the blackberries. 16. To finish the main ingredients on your festive board, place all the green olives in a triangle, until you reach the star on top.

B. Decorate the festive board: 17. Take the rosemary twigs (they look like fir tree twigs), cut them in halves and place them on the sides and bottom of your ‘tree’.

  18. Sprinkle a few rosemary leaves all around the tree as well. 19. To finish, scatter the pomegranate seeds all around the tree (resembling mistletoe). 20. Place the bowl with nuts with a small spoon on the side of the board. 21. For easier serving to your guests, place 2 cheese knives for cheese picking and some fancy toothpicks on the side of the board. 22. The Charcuterie board is ready to be served.

C. Serving suggestion for your Christmas or New Year’s Eve Cocktail or sit-down dinner: Place the Charcuterie board at the centre of your dining table.

If you will use it for a cocktail party, just before your guests arrive, place around it the glasses and drinks you will be serving.

For a sit-down dinner, it could be served as a 1st course-appetiser. Just to give you an idea, this is how I decorated my New Year's Eve dining table for dinner. I served my Charcuterie board with succulent lemony lamb’s leg with potatoes roasted in a clay pot, Yoghurt dip, bread rolls and my creamy Mushroom soup.

I believe this is a masterwork that will awe your guests.

D. Storage Info: The festive Charcuterie board can be prepared the same day and then stored in the fridge covered in plastic wrap for 6 hours max. The crackers and nuts need to be added the last minute before serving.

ΜΕΘΟΔΟΣ: Α. Φτιάξτε την Γιορταστική Σανίδα: 1. Τοποθετήστε τα τετράγωνα κράκερ το ένα πάνω στο άλλο, κάνοντας 2 στοίβες και δέστε κάθε στοίβα με ένα κόκκινο σπαγκάκι για να θυμίζουν μικρά δέματα-δώρα.

2. Τοποθετήστε τα στη Γιορταστική σας Σανίδα. Βάλτε τα στην άκρη.

3. Βάλτε τους 2 χουρμάδες στη μέση του κάτω μέρους της σανίδας για να αντιπροσωπεύουν τον κορμό του Χριστουγεννιάτικου δέντρου.

4. Τώρα ξεκινήστε να βάζετε όλα τα υλικά σας, σχηματίζοντας μια γραμμή (σειρά) με κάθε υλικό, εναλλάσσοντας χρώματα και γεύσεις. 5. Για το κάτω μέρος του δέντρου, ξεκινήστε με το μισό αγγούρι, το οποίο έχει κοπεί σε σχήμα σαν στρόβιλος. 6. Στη συνέχεια, βάλτε τους κύβους του σκληρού τυριού σε 1 σειρά. 7. Διπλώστε κάθε φέτα σαλάμι στα τέσσερα να μοιάζουν σαν τουλίπες, και βάλτε τη μία δίπλα στην άλλη, σε μια σειρά.

8. Βάλτε τα σμέουρα στην επόμενη γραμμή. 9. Στη συνέχεια σκορπίστε τη φρέσκια βαλεριάνα σε μια σειρά. 10. Από πάνω της τοποθετήστε τις κόκκινες και πορτοκαλί ντοματούλες, τη μία δίπλα στην άλλη, εναλλάσσοντας τα 2 χρώματα. 11. Στη συνέχεια, φτιάξτε μια σειρά με τους κύβους φέτας. 12. Βάλτε το αστεράκι στη μέση του πάνω μέρους της σανίδας σας, για να μοιάζει με την κορυφή του χριστουγεννιάτικου δέντρου. 13. Φτιάξτε άλλη μια γραμμή με τα πράσινα σταφύλια.

14. Πάρτε τις φέτες προσούτο και τυλίξτε τις γύρω-γύρω σαν τριανταφυλλάκια και μετά βάλτε τη μία δίπλα στην άλλη, σε μια γραμμή. 15. Για την επόμενη γραμμή, τοποθετήστε ένα σωρό από τα μύρτιλα. 16. Για να ολοκληρώσετε τα κύρια υλικά στη γιορταστική σανίδα, τοποθετήστε όλες τις πράσινες ελιές σαν ένα τρίγωνο, μέχρι να φτάνει μέχρι πάνω στο αστέρι.

Β. Στολίστε τη γιορταστική σανίδα: 17. Πάρτε τα κλαδιά δεντρολίβανου (που μοιάζουν με κλαδιά από έλατο), κόψτε τα στη μέση και τοποθετήστε τα στα πλαϊνά και στο κάτω μέρος του ‘δέντρου’ σας.

18. Πασπαλίστε και λίγα φυλλαράκια δεντρολίβανο γύρω γύρω στο δέντρο. 19. Για να τελειώσετε, σκορπίστε τους σπόρους ροδιού πάνω από το δέντρο (μοιάζουν με γκι). 20. Τοποθετήστε το μπολ με τους ξηρούς καρπούς και ένα μικρό κουτάλι στο πλάι της σανίδας. 21. Για ευκολότερο σερβίρισμα στους καλεσμένους σας, βάλτε 2 μαχαίρια για το μάζεμα του τυριού και μερικές στολισμένες οδοντογλυφίδες στο πλάι της σανίδας. 22. Η γιορταστική σανίδα είναι έτοιμη για σερβίρισμα.

Γ. Πρόταση σερβιρίσματος για το κοκτέιλ των Χριστουγέννων ή της Πρωτοχρονιάς ή το καθιστικό δείπνο σας: Τοποθετήστε τη σανίδα στο κέντρο της τραπεζαρίας σας. Αν τη χρησιμοποιήσετε για κοκτέιλ πάρτι, λίγο πριν φτάσουν οι καλεσμένοι σας, τοποθετήστε γύρω της τα ποτήρια και τα ποτά που θα σερβίρετε.

Για καθιστικό δείπνο, θα μπορούσε να σερβιριστεί ως 1ο πιάτο-ορεκτικό. Για να σας δώσω μια ιδέα, κάπως έτσι στόλισα το Πρωτοχρονιάτικο τραπέζι μου για το δείπνο. Σέρβιρα τη γιορταστική σανίδα μου μαζί με λαχταριστό λεμονάτο αρνίσιο μπούτι με πατάτες ψημένες στη γάστρα, σάλτσα γιαουρτιού, ψωμάκια και τη κρεμώδη Μανιταρόσουπα μου.

Πιστεύω ότι πρόκειται για ένα αριστούργημα που θα αφήσει άφωνους τους καλεσμένους σας.

Δ. Πληροφορίες φύλαξης: Η γιορταστική σανίδα αλλαντικών και τυριών μπορεί να ετοιμαστεί την ίδια μέρα και στη συνέχεια να φυλαχτεί στο ψυγείο σκεπασμένη με πλαστική μεμβράνη για 6 ώρες το πολύ. Τα κράκερ και οι ξηροί καρποί όμως πρέπει να προστεθούν την τελευταία στιγμή.
