Behind Yulia, the eighth-grade president, Andrei shuffled through his papers, questioning the stray word choices which edged their way out of his speech. His first introduction as the student body president, which he started writing two weeks before school started, mocked him with its relentless cliches and hopes for Lakeside.

He dug through his pockets for his pens, only to curse himself for not bringing one along. Ironically, Roxana mocked his habit of keeping one close to him; but the one time he actually listened to his little sister's advice, it came at the weakest possible moment.

(Andrei arranges his shirt and coat, spinning around his bedroom as if he were a hero waiting to rescue the maiden. Roxana arrives from stage right, crossing her arms)

Roxana: Andrei--why are you so hyped up? It's another convocation, after all.

Andrei (while putting his hands on her shoulders): Roxana, I'm giving the convocation speech to the entire school today. I've practiced it all of last week, and it should be perfect.

(takes a deep breath)

My fellow Lakesiders, welcome back here for another great school year! I'm Andrei Petrescu, your new class president...

(Roxana takes a crumbled wrapper and throws it on Andrei. Undeterred, Andrei takes a deep breath and resumes),

I'm excited to take the reigns for your Student Government, and I believe that you fellow freshmen can, one day, aspire to be like me.

(Roxana laughs)

Roxana: I wouldn't want to be like you, and I live with you!

Andrei (smirking): Then who would you like to be?

Roxana: Someone who wants to make the student body better without trying to be obnoxious

Andrei: That's exactly what I'm aiming for.

(Fiddles his pockets, and pulls out his pen. Roxana takes it away)

Roxana: Then you wouldn't need this at all. Thank you!

Of course she would take the pen, Andrei pondered, as his head fuddled over what he could add. It's a precious talisman, not like any other fountain pen people would clamor for.

But what about the student body? I have to focus on them, or else we will go nowhere.

And how about me? I'm where I want to be, but what now? Some people still want Alexander to run Student Government because of his charisma and his kindness. He rose the hierarchy, just like I did, but in a longer time...

Unfolding the paper, he took several deep breaths, invisioning the year to come. Clamoring students coming to him at Red Square, asking him questions and him providing thoughtful answers. Fencing Club with the new freshmen advancing at him. Rousing crowds, amazement, belonging.

It will all be worth it when he leaves for college.

Curious to note that the retouch makes this 1986 story a follow up to a story -- which ends with Veronica elected class president -- published in 1990. The thing, though, is that the story's premise does not really this new detail, and arguably gets in the way -- duties as class president diminishes the time on her hands she wishes to larp / apprentice as an executive. They should have just settled on correcting the word "to".

It’s so funny when liberals lecture communists about not knowing how anything works, that we need to grow up and face the real world etc, while publicly demonstrating that their political imagination is so deeply impoverished that they genuinely believe the only thing the leader of the most powerful country on the planet in all of human history can do is block a slightly more fascist guy from taking his place every four years

Well let's just say he's burnt out and wants someone to understand him of what's he's been going through.

All of the traits he likes for his crush or lover was so different when it comes to you, you're nothing like what he wants, but he still falls for you.

Yes, you do read books. Novels. Not about school.

You're not smart or energetic, that's what you think. You're smart on your own way, stock knowledge still works after all this years of hard work, and being energetic? We don't talk about that.

Good at Communication? Oh, no. You're blunt.

Friendly and Extrovert? Hell no.

Confidence is a lot, you need to stop shaking when someone ask you to pose for a picture or to walk to the road while wearing something fashionable.

Sympathy was new for you. You don't feel bad when someone cry at all, you just don't care at all.
