Dick stroked his thumb along Slade's cheekbone with a hum. It was strange, seeing him like that - with his hair short, face clean-shaved, with two eyes watching him lazily - but… it wasn't bad. Just new. A little exciting.

"Well?" Slade flexed his fingers, digging them into Dick's waist. "What's the verdict?"

"You're still handsome, if that's what you want to hear." Dick laughed fondly. "Joey really took after you."

"You are aware that you're calling my son handsome while sitting in my lap, right?" Slade asked dryly. Dick kissed his cheek with a loud smack.

"Yep!" He grinned. "That's what you get for getting hit with a magic beam."

Slade rolled his eyes. "Unbelievable."

I fell in love with this ship and I'm jotting down a couple of ideas 😍❤️🥳

Slade finds a Nightwing rejuvenated to the age of 10/12 and with all the memories of that age.

Dick ran afoul of a magic user who made him look like this.

Slade has the onerous task of bringing him back to Bruce because he wants nothing to do with this magical bullshit and they find themselves hunted by the wizard.

During the trip he finds himself babysitting a hyperactive and talkative child who has a growing fascination and attachment to him.

Furthermore, Slade will have to protect him from magical creatures unleashed by the wizard to bring little Robin back, proving his skill and cunning to the child.

In the end he leaves Dick in Bruce's arms and our Batman, all worried, asks his son: "What did Deathstroke do to you?".

Dick with a big smile replies, "I want to marry that man".

Arkham Security Guard Danny's Backstory Continues!!!

But Dick Grayson isn’t the only Robin Danny knew.

A couple years after they started being friends, Danny (16) hears that Robin is back in Gotham and decides to head over for a visit.  After all, it’s a lot close than Jump City, but when he gets there…

“That’s not Robin.”

Yeah, Dick may or may not have forgotten to tell Danny he’s going by Nightwing now, and instead Danny is left staring down at this kid who looks suspiciously like Dick used to.

Cloning? No.

Kidnapping?  He really hopes not.

Maybe a de-ageing beam?  Always a possibility in this line of work, but no, this is a new Robin.

And Danny’s got to admit, the new Robin is pretty freakin’ adorable.  Dick was still pretty angsty and angry when they met, and after he formed the Teen Titans, was dangerously obsessed with Slade for a while.  But the new Robin is as bright and friendly as his costume with all his “Robin gives me magic” stuff. 

And he’s just. so. WIDDLE!!!  Danny’s still only 16, but he’s finally managed to start growing and has hit a respectable 5’8”, and it’s like when you’re a senior watching the freshmen walk in for the first time.  He’s just so itty bitty! 

But Danny still associates the name Robin with Dick and can’t use it to refer to this new one, yet, so unfortunately, Jason gets stuck with nicknames.  Short nicknames.  Shorty, Short Stuff, Tiny, Shrimp, etc.  Jason is not a fan of Danny.

After their meeting, Danny calls Dick because how could you not tell me you changed your moniker? …And you’re in Bloodhaven, too?!  Dick also needs to vent because he can’t BELIEVE Bruce went and replaced him.

Dick… buddy… how long did we try to get you a little sibling?

I’M A BIG BROTHER!!!!

Otherwise, direct interaction between Jason and Danny is pretty limited.  Danny is Dick’s friend; Jason is just the little brother.  Still, Dick occasionally asks Jason to help Danny study, and Danny will help with pun-filled advice on being a hero.  He’s also pretty good at first aid whenever Jason gets hurt and doesn’t want Alfred to find out it’s because he did something stupid.

After Jason’s death, Danny helped Dick search the Ghost Zone for him to get some closure, both for himself and Batman, but no luck, and tries hard to convince Dick that it’s actually better this way.

When Jason came back after his dip in the Lazarus pit, Danny can smell the corruption and calls in a favor from the Far Frozen.  Without a way to contact Jason, Danny gives medicine to Dick to pass on. 

Outwardly, Jason refuses it and throws Dick out of his place, but behind closed doors, Jason takes it.  It’s a lengthy process, and the side effects suck ass, but all the corrupt ectoplasm and pit madness is purged.  Nothing he needs to tell his family about, though.

When they meet again at the Asylum, Jason was hoping to lord his new height over Danny.  Except Danny kept growing and his 6’8” ass still towers over Jason’s 6’.  The short jokes continue.  However, no short jokes or nicknames are ever directed towards Tim or Damian.  Only Jason.

The only valid close relathionship interpretation between Jason Todd and characters who're canon minors is them having the Peter B and Miles dynamic.That is to say,gruff but deep down sweet superhero gets bullied into bringing his sweetness out by kid hero who's infinitely cooler than him and they become a mix between found siblings and him being an additional parental figure to them

Could I get your thoughts on how the Teen Titans cartoons have influenced recent or fandom characterisations?

I'm not sure I'm the best person to answer this, because I haven't been keeping up on a lot of modern titans comics. I know that @ravensvirginity has read a lot of them.

In general what I do know:

Kory's solo title (starfire) was very toon-influenced. She felt like a completely different person, and they really played up the 'doesn't understand idioms' thing from the toon, even though that was never part of her initial characterization in the comics. And she had all her rough edges shaved off to make her boring. In general, if kory is portrayed as like... overly soft or kind of just would cry if someone said something mean to her, that's toon influenced (also like. I don't think she even does that in the toon, but people like flanderize an already OOC version of her). If she just wants you to hug and make friends -- same thing. Like Kory loves her friends and she is a very affectionate character. But she's also the Teen Titans Character Most OK with Murder ™. Her character has a fascinating dichotomy where she's merciless to her enemies and incredibly loving to her friends and that's not an inconsistency that's part of the point.

Raven is generally de-aged a lot more readily than Kory, probably because Kory is tied into being Dick's love interest so they can't de-age her, but the toon really made teen raven a thing for people and then in the comics in tt2003 they also brought her back as a teenager -- I don't know whether that was toon synergy or an independent decision, but the same comics did have a plotline that pretty much just existed to give beast boy pointy teeth and ears like in the toon, so I wouldn't be surprised.

In general, if Raven is not portrayed as struggling against her father's influence and fearing being like him, but rather just fearing that he'll hurt her (or any instance in which she is used as a portal), that's toon influenced. A key point in NTT's raven is that she fears becoming like her father.

Also Raven as like... more sarcastic and deadpan is generally a toon invention. Raven was emotionally reserved, but she's not really sarcastic. She's a very genuine character, emotionally, she just fears expressing it.

Fandom perception wise I'd say when she's portrayed as like edgy or OK with people getting hurt ( and it's not something that horrifies her and/or tied into Trigon's influence and a slow decline into becoming demon raven), that's ... OOC but I also don't think it's really toon influenced, since she wasn't OK with people getting hurt in the toon. But maybe people read her character wrong? She wears black (toonwise) and acts sarcastic so she must be morally ambiguous. Even tho even in the toon the whole point was she thought she was destined to destroy the world and spent her whole life trying to save as many people as she could before then.

Vic I know we have people who view him as like. joined to beast boy/gar is pretty toon-influenced. I mean, they were friends in the comic, but Vic had a lot of strong relationships with other titans. IT wasn't just a changeling (his NTT name) thing. And even in his own solo they addressed the 'booyah boy' thing which is like... I will not even lie I didn't even notice he said booyah a lot in the toon the first time I watched it I have no clue how that became part of his character's reputation.

Slade thinking Dick is super special is pretty toon influenced, as well as any apprentice-related arc. I think Slade as a nightwing villain NGL is toon-influenced. Like. In the comics we saw him fight Slade once after Joey's death. But earlier more tension was set up (and then regrettable friendship) between Gar and Slade and I Don't approve of the decision really because it was mostly the writers treating Gar as if he got more anger due to the fact that he had a crush on terra (They weren't even dating before her death), but... I also don't approve of the 'slade as nightwing villain' thing, especially any that act as if Dick is just somehow more talented or special than the other titans.

And I know that Titans Academy (and also Terror Titans for some reason, though he was just mentioned in Terror Titans) brought in Red X. If I recall correctly (I read the comic a long time ago) they made references that acted as if the Red X thing in the toon had actually happened in comics, which again, is stupid. Not necessarily the 'bringing in something from cartoons to comics' (I mean, I like Renee Montoya and she's a cartoon invention) but the way that comic is presented in the toon and the 'dick is the most special boy' plotline that goes with it.

Anyway I'm not sure I really got into depth here, b/c like I said I haven't read much recent Teen Titans stuff (I think that Titans Academy was actually the most recent, besides the Kory and Raven 1 shots when they did tales of the titans), and I don't browse fandom tags a ton. But hopefully other people can add if they want :P

my adventures of superman does not interest me primarily because im just not into the character design. imminently impending divorce slade is really funny but that doesn’t mean that i think that’s a good slade design. i also really dislike the design for the mist, who i’m not happy with because either they’re referring to theo knight as kyle (a choice i think is probably in poor taste even if that is his ‘real’ first name, just because of the connotations behind it) or they de-aged kyle sr and made him a twink instead of an old man that literally has dementia

Dick getting de-aged and Slade has to take care of him and after the initial "freak out" passes he decides that he and Dick absolutely NEED to have a baby like that because Dick was the cutest kid on earth

oh my god YES!!!! Slade's dad mode is reawakened by Dick getting de-aged. At first there's a real freak out because it's been like almost three decades since he had to take care of a child. But...it brings back so many good memories. It feels good.

And by god, he needs to make Dick a baby. A blue eyed baby just like him, who will have his dimples and the crinkles around his eyes. Dick was so sweet as a child. A ball of sunshine. Seems like Slade's biological clock started ticking again!

On a joined mission Jason and Slade run afoul of a mage and Slade gets hit with a spell. A de-aging spell. And suddenly Jason has a small, distrustful child to take care of and has no idea what he's supposed to do. The only thing that seems to calm baby Slade down is a plushie. A Bucky Bear plushie.
