Duncan's Personality Explained on a Emotional and Sexual Level

All Duncan's hopes and dreams are to one day become boss in place of Fritz and take his job, probably to get a better salary and a better rank and also to make his mother proud. Despite all that though, he also seems to enjoy ruling and having others respect him and do what he tells them to do. Though he pretty much already has that since the M.I.F.T. Team loves him and usually tries not to break down his favors. They even let him have his "emotional supporter", Roto at work. But he still needs to bet superior and have them do what he says, not because they want to, but because they HAVE to. He needs to control others, and be the commander. However, he's extremely concerned about the new team member, Tylor Tuskmon, claiming that he's here to steal his dream job..

Duncan seems to especially enjoy dogging Tylor around when he has the chance (The Cover-Up). He wants to dominate and have the upper hand, so he can have full control of this new dangerously handsome boy, but mostly have control of himself. He needs to stay in control either because he's lost it once and got hurt, and now he's afraid of doing the same mistake again with someone as attractive as Tylor is to him, or he was just always been trying to be in control and now he's scared of losing that control for the first time; lose his focus, his mind, his heart and get carried away by his emotions. It's part of his commitment issues and he doesn't want to feel weak and do things like bowing down to love. Hard to do though with fresh and hot college boy around him and his secret dark spark of desire to be dominated by him, the one thing he CAN'T let happen but he's so TEMPTED to live and taste that moment. His defensive attitude towards Tylor though is causing him to get obsessed with his object of desire. He wants/needs to watch him, touch him, feel him, be around him.. Yup, Tylor is Duncan's ultimate sexual desire and obsession that he's unwillingly and uncontrollably falling in love with.

Duncan is afraid of letting his weaknesses possess him in general, which is the reason why in Little Monsters, at first he acted wary of Oscar, the kid he would spend the day with. Kids are nice and cute and can steal your heart and affect you in many ways, as Mike himself prove in The Damaged Room, ending up getting attached with little Snore no matter how hard he tried to be cold and emotionless towards the baby.

Very weird crossover idea but hear me out:

Monsters Inc/Monsters at Work x Hotel Transylvania

-Imagine the whole crossover starting bc Tylor and Val were assigned to make Dennis laugh and Dracula just so happens to catch them (don’t ask me how they didn’t know Dennis was half-monster)

-Imagine everybody at Monsters Inc learning about and meeting the monsters in the human world

-You know what? Put the OK boys in there too I wanna see Art and Johnny become besties

-I wanna see Johnny ask that iconic question: “Hey Mike, since you only got one eye, do you wink or blink at people?”

- Sully and Frank would prolly become friends. They’re both super chill

-Mike and Murray definitely share jokes

-Idk why but I feel like Celia would look up to Eunice (aka the bride of Frankenstein). Just imagine Fran Drescher and Jennifer Tilly in the same room

-Imagine Duncan somehow getting stuck inside Blobby

((tylor x reader x duncan concept coming up… gender neural of course))

you’re a young monster and recent addition to the mailroom leading up to the events of the show. when a mail chute gets clogged the mift crew, or rather fritz and a monster you’ve never seen before, show up to fix it. that‘s the day you first meet duncan who’s also new to monsters inc and being trained by fritz.

it’s pretty uneventful, they don’t take long to fix the chute and are on their way after a few more jokes that fall flat. you‘re still happy to have met another newbie and duncan seemed to think the same.

in the next few months you get settled into your new job and the infrequent run ins with mift turn into semi regular meetings of duncan seeking you out to just chat (and gloat sometimes). once you find out about his pet you stop by the mift office when you’re nearby. the cute fuzzball is a powerful incentive to come visit and duncan even lets you pet it (it’s surprisingly friendly to you).

the more you get to know duncan though the less you want to hang out with him. he’s kind of underhanded and a little manipulative, the kind of monster who’d sabotage you if you got in his way. and lately he’s acting more creepy on top of that to the point that you don’t want to be „friends“ anymore. not like you were ever more than acquaintances.

but to him you’re his work crush! he wants to impress you by showing off and he’s gets roto to be extra nice and cuddly to you when you hold him. it’s part of his plan to get you to like him back. just as much as duncan dreams of being the mift supervisor he wants to be your boyfriend. in the future he’s planned out in his head you’re by his side, he’s decided that for certain.

unfortunately for you his „romantic“ attention reads more as creepy to you. he’s often slinking around you, closing in on you on your break and you won’t ever recover from the heart attack he gave you the time he landed right in front of you in a dark hallway after hours (because he‘d been perched somewhere and watching you… you just told him he would’ve made a good scarer and got out of there as fast as you could).

subconsciously you know what he wants from you. but for the most part you’ve brushed of duncan’s behaviour as just him being a little strange and creepy. you choose to act oblivious the „flirting“ as long as you can. he has to realize you aren’t interested sometime, right? it’s not like you’ve ever met outside of work either.

however he’s still one of your first friends in monsters inc. you don’t have that many friends at work or in general even and you have a feeling he’s the same way. you’re kind of in a limbo.

that’s your status quo for some time. some monsters leave the company, new faces join, a big conspiracy gets uncovered and scream energy gets replaced by laughing energy… the whole world is upside down and through all of it duncan stays a constant presence in your work life who doesn’t get the hint you don’t want to be more than friends. it’s unsatisfactory for both of you but he seems to believe he’ll win you over with time.

enter a new force that rattles the shaky balance between duncan and you: tylor tuskmon. he’s a pretty-boy fresh out of college, with high ambitions that get absolutely crushed on his very first day on the job. a top scarer who beat sullivan‘s record with a letter of recommendation that’s useless now. you were just trying to buy a drooler cooler when he literally ran into you by the vending machine and broke down and vented to you for the duration of your lunch break.

tylor‘s been relegated to mift and wants to get out of there fast. he‘s trying to become a jokester now, since the one thing he’s worked for all his life has become completely impossible. you feel sorry for him but boy, what a first impression. also he‘s a big guy, it hurt when he bumped into you.

you see tylor more often after that. he‘s with the mift crew since there’s always something in need of fixing in a place as big as monsters inc you meet more or less frequently.

it’s easy to like tylor, he’s kind and honest and gets contagiously enthusiastic. he can be immature sometimes but that’s the lack of life experience. this is his first job. age wise you two aren’t that far apart but he still has a kind of innocence, almost gullibility when faced with new situations.

he reminds you of yourself if you hadn’t dropped out of uni.

it’s impressive tylor pulled through and finished his education. admittedly he’s also a looker. even his clumsiness can be charming it it doesn’t cause a major accident.

tylor‘s grateful you listened to his troubles on his first day of work without judging him. you’re the friendly face of the mailroom and you aren’t crazy and annoying like the others at mift. most of all you look like you know what you’re doing. you’ve found your place in the mailroom and you’re good at what you do. he aspires to become like you in that aspect. he‘s also starting to like you.

but we all know how duncan already feels about tylor. he sees the college boy as a threat to his promotion. duncan catches tylor making googly eyes at you when the two are fixing the pneumatic tubes in the mailroom. tylor, clumsy as always, trips and falls. you help him up but laugh at the parcels hanging from his horns and tylor laughs along. the sound signals a direct threat to duncan‘s entire future he’s got planned out in his head.

an even bigger competition between the two is sparked. they get into an argument on the way back to the mift office with duncan whispering he’s got dibs on you, you’ve known each other forever! tylor is taken aback at first. he snaps out of it and gets back at duncan. you get to choose who you date. obviously you would never pick duncan!

the tensions are mounting with you right in the middle of it all. what are you gonna do with two monsters pining for you who are also at each others throats half the time?
