Transitioning to a Spring Filled with Adventure

Good morning, vampire hunters.

The rabid were-bunnies were not yet ready to come out of hiding (Is that good or bad?), but Ruiseart, Irene, and Edmund are taking caution as they assess the area in Dracula’s botanical garden where they were last seen. Their only clue is the spears lodged into the walls. Irene takes notice that one is pulsing with a type of earth magic that causes predatory thoughts to seep into its user’s mind. Like stone, were creatures have an unmatched fury that if left unchecked has led to the downfall of ancient civilizations and have slain innocent lives. From Irene gathered, she believed that Dracula unleashed a pack of were-bunnies on a countryside village celebrating Easter Sunday. The holy day is looked upon as a beacon of hope in a time where civilization itself has fallen into disarray. With no order in the mortal nations since Dracula’s last defeat, he intended to capitalize on it by wiping out the remains of any resistance against his regime whether or not his coven is directly threatened. With little concern for the group’s safety, Ruiseart decides to bring to spears back to camp. Laius is sure to know something about how an enriching weapon can force its user to forgot who they were. Gulping, he prays that his older brother has listened to Angela. It’s not the first time he has been brash when the wisdom of an elder conflicts with his own beliefs and infiltrating the Dark Lord’s castle is hardly the time and place for that. Ruiseart jumps toward the spear and dislodges it from the wall with a single arm. He turns to leave the garden and the kids follow him out not realizing they were seconds away from company with the spear’s owners. Photo by LoboStudio Hamburg on Unsplash.

Check out the roadside sections in Chapter 4. Frederick and Eforie may be too young to drive, but they recognize that an asphalt road is no different than a dirt path. Might Clément be nearby? It seems, though, their quest may be briefly leading them back to the mortal world.

Chapter 2 of The Flower that Blooms in Red (Westley’s Version) and Son of a Hustler respectively will be in the works after the release of this installment for Waltz of Sepulchral Silence Book 1.

Lumera's dragon form

Lumera's dragon form is In the European style. In the early Middle Ages and heraldry, the European Dragon was depicted as a giant creature covered with lizard-like scales, two leathery bat wings, four legs, a prehensile tail and the ability to breathe fire. In folklore it was believed that the unique powers of a dragon, and their blood, gave them the ability to live a long time. Lumera has a similar lifespan. Another quality of the European style Dragon was that it was normally depicted protecting a cavern or a castle filled with treasure. Lumera has a treasure to protect In Lythos Castle; The Emblem Rings. A good dragon in the European tradition was believed to be wise whereas a bad dragon was associated with a hero who is destined to slay it.

In Heraldry, the dragon was a symbol of power and sovereignty. King Arthur's father, Uther Pendragon, used the Dragon as his royal insignia. Staying with the Arthurian tradition, the wizard Merlin had a version of two dragons fighting; one red and one white. The red symbolised the Britons and the White Dragon symbolises the Saxons. He foresaw that the Britons would emerge victorious. How is this relevant to Lumera? She is the sovereign of Lythos and the head deity of a religion with great supernatural powers. In Elyso dragons are seen as royal and mighty.

The white dragon is associated with Saint Edmund. Not much is known about Saint Edmund because the kingdom of East Anglia was devastated by the Vikings. There is a legend about him defending East Anglia from an attack of the heathen Vikings before he was captured. He died in captivity after he refused to renounce Christ. In this case the white dragon symbolises his holiness. The white of Lumera's Dragon form could also symbolise her holiness. In China the white dragon symbolises something rather different; death. If you are a white dragon, it is a bad omen or a warning of death. Not long after transforming into a white dragon, Lumera dies. She could be the omen of her own passing.

The colour white has many associations relevant for Lumera:

Sun

Air

Holiness

Perfection

Innocence

Purity

Death and rebirth

The sun, air and light are all relevant because the symbol of Lythos is the sun. The symbol of the sun is often associated with divinity. Lythos Castle is located up upon a mountain range while the Somniel is high up in the air, almost like they are the heavens where deities watch over the human race. Lythos is depicted as a place full of light and sunlight.

Purity is important because technically Lumera does not have a child through carnal means, instead she adopts Alear and pours her power into them so that they can be her successor.

Lumera could be considered a symbol of death and rebirth. She dies and is reborn as Corrupted Lumera. Alear dies and is reborn as Corrupted Alear before they did again and is reborn as an Emblem.

Sorry for the late ask, I've actually been writing all day and I genuinely thought it was still Friday until I checked my inbox!!

If you could have one of your own characters meet another fictional character of a writer of your choice (this can include mutuals!), who would you choose and how do you imagine their interaction would go?

I am terribly sorry for the very late answer, I have been catching up on a lot of my writing in the last few days, as it is a local holiday here in my country, and only now was I able to answer your ask, as I wanted to answer it properly.

It is a very interesting question!

I will choose some of my favorite characters from my favorite books and movies that I think my own characters would love to meet in person, but I might mention some of my mutual's characters too.

RAELEN ASHIREN: I think that Raelen would love to meet Arya Stark (Game of Thrones), Hiccup Haddock (How to Train Your Dragon), Toph Beifong (Avatar The Last Airbender), Alucard (Castlevania), Merida (Brave), Sam Winchester (Supernatural), Esmeralda (The Hunchback Of Notre Dame) and Tulio (Road to El Dorado)

AZRA MOORSWORTH: I think that Azra would love to meet, and would likely become good friends with: Lo'ak (Avatar 2: The Way of Water), Richard Grayson/Nightwing (Titans from DC Comics), Kili (The Hobbit), Jim Hawkings (Treasure Planet) and Apollo (The Trials of Apollo). Another character that I think reminds me of him is Palem from one of my Mutual's works (head to @lassiesandiego to check this character out!).

JULYAN ASHIREN: I think that Julyan would love to meet Dean Winchester (Supernatural), Hector (Castlevania), Prince Caspian (Chronicles of Narnia), Mako (Legend of Korra), Robb Stark (Game of Thrones), Runaan (The Dragon Prince), Shiro (Voltron: Legendary Defender) and Violet (Arcane).

BRYN SEPERI: In my opinion, Bryn would like to meet (even if that interaction would probably end with someone getting stabbed): Kaz Brekker (Shadow and Bone), Theon Greyjoy (Game of Thrones), Trevor Belmont (Castlevania), Murtagh (Eragon: The Inheritance Cycle), Nico Di Angelo (Percy Jackson Books), Nanashi (Sword of The Stranger), Morgana Pendragon (Merlin) and Geralt of Rivia (The Witcher).

NYX FAESTORM: I think Nyx would like to meet Legolas (Lord of The Rings), Jaskier (The Witcher), Vax'ildan (Legend of Vox Machina), Jesper Fahey (Shadow and Bone), Vignette (Carnival Row), Julian Devorak (The Arcana), and Jack Sparrow (Pirates of the Caribbean)

VALLERIUS ZYNDROSAR: Vall would definitely like to meet and talk to characters like: Edmund Pevensie (Chronicles of Narnia), Jayce Tallis (Arcane), Aleksander Morosova/The Darkling (Shadow and Bone), Will Turner (Pirates of The Caribbean), Callum (The Dragon Prince), James Kirk (Star Trek), and Enjolras (Les Miserables).

TANWIN LYRANDETH: I think the characters he would like to meet would be Lotor (Voltron), Bucky Barnes (Captain America: Winter Soldier), Tauriel (The Hobbit), Loki (Thor and Avenger Movies), Tim Drake (DC Comics), and Odysseus (Epic The Musical and the original Odyssey).

ELLINOR DALLANTES: She would like to meet Ciri (The Wicher), King Ezran (The Dragon Prince), Fa Mulan (Mulan), Percy De Rolo (Legend of Vox Machina), Susan Pevensie (Chronicles of Narnia), Jaqen H'ghar (Game of Thrones), Elizabeth Swann (Pirates of The Caribbean), and, Lancelot (King Arthur, especially the 2004 movie) Leia Organa (Star Wars).

I choose these characters because I think that their personalities would match enough for them to have an interesting interaction, as they could discuss similar worldviews and struggles, though they would quite possibly generate far too much chaos together lol.

Another installment of the "Halloween costume" sketches where I dress one of my MC's as a character from one of my favorite animated movies! This time, I'm giving some long-delayed love to my Marauders Era boy-band member, Edmund "Ed" Rosier, by dressing him up as Howl Jenkins-Pendragon from Studio Ghibli's Howl's Moving Castle!

Of Ghibli's work, Howl's Moving Castle is actually not in my top three (those would be Whisper of the Heart, Castle in the Sky, and Kiki's Delivery Service), but that doesn't mean I still don't really enjoy it. My favorite aspects are the music, the overall aesthetic, and, of course, the two main characters, Sophie and Howl -- and honestly, as soon as I thought of Howl for this prompt, I realized that he was 120% a perfect fit for Ed. Not only are these two both pacifistic sorts who loathe war and conflict, but nonetheless have to gain the courage needed to fight in it-- not only are they both melodramatic, but clever wizards who end up building their own "found family" over time -- not only do they both put out a very suave, charming affect to the outside world and have their fair share of romantic admirers because of it -- but Ed used to dye his hair blond when he was young, before going back to his natural darker color, just like Howl does over the course of the film!!

I hope to have other sketches for this series ready before the end of the "Spooky Month"...in the meantime, though, much love to you all! xoxo
