Something something Raine Whispers must assume that they're the weird wacky one with some crazy coup story. Until the finale, Raine doesn't know about anything other than Eda's curse.
Raine gets possessed and definitely assumes that this is gonna be the winning batshit end of the world story out of the two of them.
And then Eda's kid turns out to be a god.
As in, the (last) son of the god who's decomposing corpse they live in, and who's still-beating heart hung in the center of the building where Raine worked for several fucking years. The other kid also kind of ascended to godhood for a hot minute??? Eda does not seem to think either of these things are troubling beyond, like, cursory concern for her kids' welfare.
Anyways, Raine definitely thought they were the anime chosen one, and it turns out to be, like, their stepkids.

Top five books that you would like to oversee the film/TV adaptation of (preferably ones that don't already have an adaptation)?
Rilla of Ingleside: Why is there not an adaptation of this yet? Coming-of-age story that's the only Canadian WWI home-front book written by a woman who lived through the war. That's at least as historically significant as Anne of Green Gables! Whether I'm in charge of it or not, it needs to exist as a matter of principle. (Though in terms of personally overseeing the adaptation, I'd probably give top spot to The Blue Castle.)
Ella Enchanted: I know it technically got an adaptation, but we both know it doesn't count. Sometimes it aches to know that the beautiful book-accurate version of my dreams doesn't exist.
The Magician's Nephew: Take it away from Greta Gerwig and give it to me!
Farmer Boy or These Happy Golden Years: The first one works as a standalone and would make a very cute movie, and it hurts to know that it'll probably never get an adaptation. The second one would probably need to be at the end of at least a three-movie series, but it's the one I most want to direct. (And I have to be involved in casting the perfect Cap Garland.)
Entwined: Maybe the author should be in charge of this one, but I also want to be on-board to make sure it becomes the animated musical masterpiece of my dreams.

I have a hypothesis that folk- and crone magic (respectively) would work well within popular culture witchcraft. No, really.
Tumblr media
I've got some research and thinking to do on the idea, but all I need to do is write up the conventions, correlations, and the beginning of construction (this isn't a one-and-done paper endeavor, this is like doing doctoral level work in folklore, but for fun).
I got this book and flipped first to the "Inscriptions of Power" chapter:

(Crone's Book of Charms & Spells by Valerie Worth)
And I'm seeing how popculture witchery has great potential using crone magic (and folk magic) intentions. This isn't a matter of creation, but of revealing some unexplored practices.
I want to detail my study on my other wordpress blog and I'll post here as I do. This is a teaser post, but I literally just now gave words to nebulous thought.

(Jessica Fletcher: a crone avatar I never thought to incorporate in my practice beyond a quick reference)

I like to think atleast one golden guard fucked off into the woods never to be seen again. Imagine if when everything is said and done this one hobo looking blonde fucker comes out of the forest, "What did i miss?" and than Flapjack pulls his hair and Hunter just Knows™

Hunter would have gone back to the castle if Belos had shown a single act of genuine care or an occasional kindness to him. Hunter would have clung to it and run back looking for answers and begging forgiveness. He would have clung to whatever kind thing that Belos might have shown him and thought “He did (kind thing) and cared for me in the past he wouldn’t kill me like all of those other Guards. I look the most like him (who ever he is) Uncle will still love me…. Right? …We’re family still right?”Hunter would be able to use plausible deniability and push back the reality of what he saw in Belos’s mind.
