Ok so like…. Who makes Ratio’s statues?

Because every possible explanation just opens up a whole new can of worms.

I’ve been trying to go through as much info about him as I can, including his character stories, but I can’t find anything???

So I’m just left stewing in the dark, which usually leads to my humor coming into play.

So like… are the statues of Ratio’s own making??

Because that would insinuate that he takes the time out of his busy life to constantly make new statues of just himself, including the multiple plaster heads. And if it’s not him physically and it is a manifestation of his Imaginary powers, he’s still making them right???

So he still chooses the poses!

Why???

What is his thought process???

Physically made or Imaginary Powers made, it’s still his choice on what the statue should look like right???

And if it’s not a conscious decision, then WHAT DO THE JOJO AND CUTESY POSES MEAN

(Whole new thought process, the artist is making statues of Ratio for both Ratio AND Aventurine, and all the cute statues are actually commissions by Aventurine for his little Dr. Ratio idol crush shrine. There’s a constant slapstick comedy routine of Aventurine trying to hide them anytime Ratio comes over to his place and barely getting away with it. Does he ever come clean when they start dating? Do they start dating because Ratio finds the statues? Fuck it, if Ratio is the one making the statues and not an artist, does he teach Aventurine how to sculpt?? Does it become like something they do together to spend time?? Ok damn wait that’s kinda cute wait-)

Hello, I have a question: Is it ok to make fanarts in your art style or does it make you uncomfortable? I'm genuinely asking because a while ago I saw you said on twitter you find it strange people drew in an art style "all the time" and "where they are in the art" and this concerned me because a lot of people in the smile for me fandom draw in your style. We all are passionate about your work and it's why we love to make fan arts in the art style. I'm just genuinely concerned...

Oh, that was meant as a general thing- I just find it strange when an artist decides to SOLELY draw in another artist's style as close as possible. Since art is self-expression, I find it weird that someone would want to ONLY express themselves through someone else's voice. Isn't it uncomfortable to wear someone else's skin all the time? It'll never fit exactly right- it's fine to put it on sometimes, but you gotta remember it's You under there, too! Your voice matters, you just gotta find it. Imitating and absorbing other artist's styles into your own is how an art style forms. An art style is like a soup! Lots of fun ingredients combined to create a great new flavor. If you like someone's art style, it's awesome to look into that artist's influences as well- you can learn so much!! I think it's neat when people draw in my style! I love seeing it! It's cool how close people can get to how I draw. But I do find it weird when someone ONLY draws in my style as close as possible- does that make sense? Nothing wrong with art studies, or drawing the characters on model, that's totally okay, of course. Basically it's just a little uncomfy to me when someone tries to get as close as possible to how I draw, every little quirk (like emulating my hand tremors when their own hands aren't shaky), and passes it off as their own thing and only draws that way... I hope that makes sense. I don't actually see that many people doing this- most fanart is just people drawing the characters "on model" but I can still tell it's someone else drawing them, and I love that. I love seeing what little parts of the artist peeks through that way. Most people drawing Smile For Me fanart are still using their own voice Through the influence of Smile For Me's style and it's awesome. I don't suuuuper consider Smile For Me's art style My Style, anyways. I draw differently in my own time. Smile For Me's style is kind of it's own thing. I'm not trying to sound uppity or tell people what they can and can't do! I just encourage you to find your own voice. I'm just a guy!

He buys you so much jewelry, he absolutely loves just surprising you with new jewels, and the price tag is the least of his worries

Vil adores your piercings, specifically if you let him give you little makeovers

If your piercing is new, he’ll keep you on a strict regimen, there will be un unsightly bumps, bleeding or sore skin on his watch

His most favorite thing to do when styling your snake bites is adding simple silver rings, and matching them with silver eyeshadow

Best Underrated Shows

Saving Me

Saving Me is about a lonely old guy who invents a time machine so he can go back to his child self and fix all his past mistakes. I learned about this show from this video titled Watch THIS instead of Hailey's On It by M!n!mal M!ss Art. Despite this video, I was still very excited to watch Hailey's On It. It seemed like a story with a cool premise and cute art style (and ultimately I do really like the show) But Hailey's On It wasn't gonna be out for weeks when I came across this video and this video really sold me on giving Saving Me a try. I never would have even heard of this show without that youtube video which would have been a real shame because Saving Me is fantastic! I hope this show reaches more people and I'm dying for a season 3!!!!!

House of Anubis

Mystery is my favorite genre and House of Anubis is chuck full of it. I used to be obsessed with this show back in high school. I had so much fun coming up with theories and live-blogging my thoughts and opinions about each new episode. Some of the acting & dialogue could be a little cringe sometimes but the story is just so good that it doesn't matter. I've heard that Het Huis Anubis (the Dutch version of the show that House of Anubis is based on) is even better, though I haven't gotten around to watching it yet.

Over the Garden Wall

Those of us who have seen Over the Garden Wall seem to agree that this show is amazing! Which makes it feel a little weird to call it underrated. But it seems like so few people have actually seen it. Maybe because it was a mini series, it couldn't reach the same level of popularity as other shows of similar quality. If you like Gravity Falls, you'll likely enjoy Over the Garden Wall as well. (Wirt is even voiced by the same guy who voiced Dipper!) I would highly recommend anyone that hasn't seen it already.

Dead End: Paranormal Park

I feel like it's pretty rare for animated series to exist in the horror genre for some reason. It truly is an untapped market. But if you love horror and animation, Dead End is the show for you! (Of course it's kid friendly horror since the target audience is children) The two main characters, Barney and Norma get jobs at a haunted park and work together to fight ghosts and demons. Dead End has a super cute animation style, in my opinion, and a very diverse set of characters. I encourage everyone to watch it!

Just Add Magic

Just Add Magic is based on a children's book by the same name. It's a show about three girls who love to cook and basically discover that they can use cooking to do magic. It's a pretty interesting take on how magic works in their universe. It's very fun to watch. All of the actors are also so talented! And one of those actors is Zach Callison (the voice of Steven Universe)!

The friendship between the trio is awe-inspiring! They have so much chemistry. It's a pretty fun watch.

The Last Kids On Earth

Based on a comic of the same name, this show is about a group of kids who have to survive on their own when a zombie apocalypse breaks out. And other various creatures start to threaten them (or even become their allies) It's basically a cute found family story. The premise is pretty simplistic but that's what I love about it. The animation style of The Last Kids On Earth is so beautiful as well!

I'm still waiting for a season 3!!!!!

Code Lyoko

I remember as a kid being aware of this show and thinking it looked kind of interesting (and I always loved the theme song!!) but I never ended up watching it back then because I let peer pressure get the better of me. I remember I met someone who brought up how much they loved the show. When I heard them express that interest, I was at first excited to ask them more but before I had the chance, everyone else started making fun of him for liking Code Lyoko.

I guess it was like the nerd show or something? I don't really know why it was considered cringe to like Code Lyoko but upon seeing my peers act this way, I decided I can't like Code Lyoko if I want to fit in. So, I avoided watching it. But earlier this year, when I was flipping through channels, they were showing old episodes of Code Lyoko! I was intrigued since I remembered it from childhood and thought I'd actually give it a chance this time. And it's actually a pretty good show! It can be slow at times but overall I enjoy it.

If you're like me and avoided watching this back then due to peer pressure, I highly recommend leaving that in the past and just letting yourself enjoy this show!!

Slugterra

Slugterra is honestly pretty similar to Pokemon, except it's slugs! And the entire series takes place underground. Basically, there's a whole underground world called Slugterra, home to slugs, trolls, moles, etc. And all the slugs have cool powers so the people collect & befriend slugs so they can use them as weapons ("slugslinging"). If you like Pokemon, you're sure to like Slugterra!

Detentionaire

I discovered Detentionaire randomly while I was searching through Amazon's library of cartoons. I was looking for a new show to watch and just stumbled upon this one. It looked pretty interesting and I was surprised to see it was a show from 2011. I don't know how I missed this show back then. Idk if maybe it only aired in Canada or something? (cuz it's a Canadian show) But anyways, Detentionaire is such an intriguing show where the main character, Lee, discovers some grand conspiracy and has to try to expose it to prove his innocence so he can get out of detention. It's such an interesting concept. And, as I mentioned earlier, mystery is my favor genre, so I had a lot of fun with this one.

The only problem though is, of course, it ends on a cliffhanger. The show got canceled before they had the chance to conclude the story in a satisfying way (or any type of way) so watch at your own risk.

Catscratch

I honestly don't even remember what this show was about but I do remember enjoying this show and being excited when I saw a new episode was out. I remember thinking it was so funny. I just don't think enough people know about this show.

I feel weird giving out unprompted permission statements because I'm making a big assumption that anyone's going to want to use my work. That said I also know people do like to build on other people's art and can't always work up the nerve to ask, so: Anyone is free to use this design if they want to for any reason- I don't own this character anyway. (Although I am hopeful that you do not, you know, monetize it, because i cant do that and if you do that its not fair ;_; ) Feel free to remix, improve, use as basic inspiration, etc. I would appreciate a tag/mention if you use it so I can see what you did!

This design has evolved a little since I first started drawing it, and I will see people reblogging the original design notes and think 'oh no! those are out of date and I don't have new/accurate ones!'

Reblogging the old one is still an honor- and the first take on a design just sometimes has a different appeal because it's less refined and more chaotic (especially with a character that should be chaotic), so I suspect some people will just prefer the older drawings & they'll still get shared, which is great! But I felt as if the project was a little bit incomplete without an update, since I think I've reached the point where if you see that old post & then come to my blog and look at my current content, there's a noticeable difference.

Also I kind of like making design notes.

If anyone's wondering why things changed, the answer's really simple- 90% of it is just the result of him settling into having more consistent anatomy and facial structure so that I can keep him looking accurate across different angles and poses. If you look at the old drawings you may notice that Gollum has an inconsistently shaped squishy head. That's fine for a concept post but doesn't work as well for maintaining him across different comic panels or in an animatic, at least not the way I work.

In the same vein, while my art is still & will always be heavily stylized, I started giving him more structured semi-sorta-realistic anatomy so that he wouldn't look entirely out of place next to less bizarre-looking characters such as Aragorn. (I feel that's also helpful in nudging Gollum into the uncanny valley where he ought to be, rather than leaving him so abstractified that there's a risk you won't see anything wrong with him having noodle arms.) He also acquired the new-style 'garbage bag' outfit because I found a reference in LOTR to his arms and legs being bare/exposed (it's in one of my favorite passages, the 'an eagle would think Gollum was dead if it came by right now' passage in The Two Towers):

Not even an eagle poised against the sun would have marked the hobbits sitting there, under the weight of doom, silent, not moving, shrouded in their thin grey cloaks. For a moment he might have paused to consider Gollum, a tiny figure sprawling on the ground: there perhaps lay the famished skeleton of some child of Men, its ragged garment still clinging to it, its long arms and legs almost bone-white and bone-thin: no flesh worth a peck.

So, over the time I've come back here, I've become pretty confident and proud of my once hidden passion about sick characters, sickfics and sick comfort/whump... 🌡️

And you all have been so supportive and sweet despite my weirdness so I thank you for that. You helped me feel more confident in my otherwise weird fixation <3 So, for my birthday I thought I'd try and make up a little drawing challenge for anyone who wants to give it a try... There are soo many talented artists on this site (and in this fandom)

So... It's your turn to target your faves now. You will see how fun it is and hopefully understand why I love doing it so much. 😈🌡️

So here's the challenge and the rules!! (featuring my two main lil targets ofc :3)

If you're in the RainCode community you can target anyone, but as you know, my main targets are Yuma and Makoto. If they're also your faves and who you decide to use, that will make me extra happy!

Some tips for anyone new to drawing a sick day scenario art. A few things that make it look convincing are the following:

Pajamas or Loungewear

Messy Bed Hair

Fever flushed face w sweat or at least a red nose

Tired Eye bags

Shivery body

Ice Pack or a Compress on the head

Thermometer sticking from their mouth

LOTS OF BLANKETS

Tissues or medicine surrounding them

Tea or Soup (or both)

Those are just to name some from the top of my head. If you'd like some pointers on how to make a character look ill, check out my Fever Coloring Guide. This is for digital artists but traditional artists can try it too!

You can add injury or angst to the scene but I'd like illness to be the main focus of it.

The scene can be anything you want to, it can be fluffy and wholesome (with a caretaker) it can be angsty, or it can be silly. Its all up to you! Do it for the sake of fluff! Caretaking scenes are the best for any kind of relationship >w<

Either way, have fun with it!! I look forward to see what people make if they decide to give it a try! It doesn't even have to be a full on picture! Doodles and sketches are fine too! Just show me something >w<

Rachel "Retcon" Smythe Strikes Again!

Okay, so I've been seeing pictures of Volume 4 of Lore Olympus floating around, and people are ALREADY FINDING RETCONS.

Most notably so far, some added panels in the Hades and Apollo confrontation that happens outside Artemis' house (when Persephone steals Apollo's lyre) in Episode 81.

This is the original scene, for anyone who needs a refresher:

First of all, the art. It's so noticeably bad. You can tell Rachel has completely lost her ability to draw these characters in the S1 style, I'm fairly certain she took the panel of Hades from the old version and just copy pasted it to try and get around it (look at the posing) but it's incredibly obvious looking at that third panel that LO is not and can never be what it was back in 2017-2019. Those first two panels seem like they were copy pasted from the previous ones, which is just sad if those are the lengths she has to go to to come even close to replicating the older style.

Now, this just might be due to camera translation, it could very well look better IRL, but the colors just look so incredibly desaturated and the lines blurred out, to the point that people are doing double takes over whether or not panels have been directly changed - they haven't been, they've just been so sucked dry of their colors that they look off enough to cast suspicion.

If anything it's a harsh reminder that LO has kinda always had art problems, especially with its lazy humor and stupid meme faces.

Of course, to be fair, color loss can happen in print, but seeing how slapped together these books tend to be, I wouldn't be surprised if they just didn't put in the effort to convert the page art to CMYK or at least tinker with the saturation in editing some more to ensure it would come out more vibrant in print.

Now. Excuse me while I go on a bit of a crackpot rant here. Newbie puff pals beware, because this is gonna get dicey and you're about to learn where my tinfoil-hat rep comes from but I just have to talk about it.

Back to the added Apollo panels, where Persephone asks Hades not to hurt him and he looks nervous before she says "I just want him to leave".

Maybe it's just me, but it's a little weird that THESE are the panels they decided they needed to add. It's weird that she's asking Hades not to hurt Apollo when she's about to break into his car and steal his lyre just a few moments later. It's weird that the implication seems to be that she's referring to Hades' act of violence towards Tori... but Persephone doesn't know that's happened yet. So this feels like an unnecessary retcon that's doing more harm than good.

But I feel like the timing of this is kinda messed up as well, as this book released just days after the release of the last FP episode in which Apollo has his 'side' of the assault story told through his perspective, which is often considered a HUGE no-no in writing assault stories because it often comes with the implication that it's asking for empathy from the audience. We already know Apollo is delusional, we already know he thinks him and Persephone are meant to be despite her constant rejection of him, we didn't need a flashback from his own warped perspective explaining that very thing, the only purpose to do such a thing this late in the game would be to try and get the audience to 'connect' with him (it's giving S3 Bryce from 13 Reasons Why vibes). Now we have this scene of Persephone asking Hades not to hurt him (despite the structure of the episode being literally fine before, this change wasn't needed) getting snuck into the physical book release just a couple days after the newest FP tried to present Apollo in an empathetic light (and let me tell you, that's a whole essay and a half that I'll be getting into eventually).

Shit, if I wanted to get REAL Pepe Sylvia with it, I might say that hypothetically, the whole point of the random Leuce abuse episode - despite Persephone having no way of knowing what she attempted as Hades hadn't told her and she wasn't there to see it and we weren't shown her overhearing them in any way - and the following episode that was mostly padding of Hades and Persephone having sex - no consequences or follow-up whatsoever to the Leuce scene - was just to pad out the episode release schedule and buy time until the book came out so that Rachel could release that Apollo POV episode right before the book came out and revealed those new added scenes of Persephone asking Hades not to hurt Apollo, in what could be a sly artificial attempt at minimizing the SA plot so Rachel can finally just brush aside the one major plot point she regretted writing the most. After all, it wouldn't be the first time Rachel's controlled the pace of her comic to release certain moments at certain times that line up with IRL events.

But, y'know. I'm gonna quit on that thought while I'm ahead because it's probably making my credibility meter drop into the red. My ADHD has been real bad lately and it's really starting to show LMAO All ima say is that IDK who Rachel thinks she's fooling here, this kind of shit is stupid easy to fact check when the digital version of the comic is available online to read.

To end on a much funnier and lighter note, remember how Rachel tried to retcon the Demeter/Hera/Hestia relationship by changing the line "I miss my sisters" to "I miss my friends"? Well, there was one panel that had been missed in the webtoons version that still refers to them as sisters. You can still find this unedited line in Episode 78.

And uh. They forgot to fix it again for the book.

It's permanent now. That's permanent marker. It would have cost them nothing to find this in the webtoon version and fix it before it got sent to the book editors. Now it's gonna cost them thousands because the book editors didn't bother (or know) to check.

There's also this... weird shit going on with the speech bubbles. Like, they're REALLY FUCKING OVERDOING IT with the speech bubble outlines. I don't know who made this choice but it was a bad one. Gross. Don't do that. It looks so cheap.

But let's be real, at this point I feel like the book editors are just outright sabotaging Rachel because who the fuck calls themselves a professional when they do this shit-

Oh, and there's no bonus episode, just sketches. Which is fine. But it makes me chuckle to think that Rachel just didn't have time in her already razor-thin buffer to draw up a new episode to pass off as "cut content".

Wind Breaker Episode 6 Review - The Fox Leaves The False Holly

Now, THIS is a well-animated fight of pure hand-to-hand combat. No flashy magics or powers needed. It’s just two delinquents going at it. Cloverworks did an amazing job giving us a fight scene as impactful as Sakura’s brawl from the premiere. I love how it was animated! Sako uses a lot of spin-kicks and punches while Hiiragi is more powerful kicks and punches. I think my favorite aspect of the fight was when Sako was going to kick Hiiragi, but faked it by grabbing his leg. That was so cool! I also really liked Hiiragi utilizing his tall height and long legs by kicking Sako from behind. It shows that the animators know how to get creative with these fight.

Hiiragi and Sako have history with each other. They used to be friends since elementary school when the former saved the latter from bullies. This was when Sako asked Hiiragi to teach him how to fight. When they were in middle school, Sako was keen on following him for the rest of his life and believed he’d be at the top in Furin. However, Hiiragi said that he was going to work under Umemiya and not take the top spot for himself. The moment he told Sako to not follow him anymore and get a new goal in life was when the rift between them happened. It seems it could be an asinine story for some viewers, but I see it as more of Hiiragi trying to help Sako avoid a potential toxic codependent relationship. He was clearly attached to Hiiragi sort of like how Sugishita holds Umemiya in high regard. However, the only difference between Sako and Sugishita is that Umemiya is already at the top so he is someone already respected while Hiiragi is someone who doesn’t want to take that position for himself. Sako could’ve been someone who could’ve been spiteful of Umemiya or Hiiragi because of this because had Sako gone to Furin, there would be a lot of tension. This was why Sako drifted away from Hiiragi and decided to join Shishitoren after Togame and Choji scouted him. Sako believes that power comes from doing things on your own, without the need to depend on anyone. The fact that Hiiragi chooses to be a follower and not a leader was what irked him.

As someone who read the manga last weekend, I want to say that there’s a very interesting theming with Bofurin and Shishitoren. All of the Bofurin members are named after plants, hence why their team’s image color is green and why Umemiya likes gardening. For example, Sakura’s name uses the kanji for Cherry Blossom. In Hiiragi’s case, his name comes from the Japanese word for Osmanthus heterophyllus, or false holly. The “ko” in Sako’s name is the kanji for fox. By extension, all of Shishitoren are named after animals. The To in Tomiyama stands for rabbit. The Game in Togame stands for turtle. The Ma in Arima stands for horse. The Ka in Kanuma stands for deer. It also helps that Shishitoren means Lion’s Head, hence the animal themed names. I think it’s super creative from a writer’s standpoint.

Speaking of Sako, I have to say that I really like his design. Wind Breaker’s character designs are so intricate. Sako stands out a lot to me. While he’s not as pretty as Suo, I still consider him a beauty. He stands out, hence why I think he’s pretty. It also helps that he does look like a fox like his namesake. No, it’s not weird to call male anime characters pretty and I’ll keep doing it.

I also liked the little banter Sakura, Nirei and Suo usually have as an audience member. Sakura’s shit talking actually gets his allies motivated. Suo’s fighting style is supposed a hodgepodge of different martial arts as his instructor was self taught. Hmmm, this does support my Suo being a successor theory…

As a manga reader, the Hiiragi and Sako fight was animated superbly. However, I honestly cannot wait for Sakura vs Togame, which will happen next week. All I can say is that Hiiragi’s words towards Togame, “You don’t know what’s going to happen” is foreshadowing the results of the match. Who do you think will win?

A Tale From My Youth

I was thinking recently that it's weird that I'm not a furry.

I like furries well enough, but I don't consider myself one, the same way I don't consider myself an otaku even though I like anime. I'm just not that entrenched in the culture, but I do appreciate it from the outside.

Why I think it's weird, is that in my earliest years of being a young artist on the internet, most of what I drew was anthro animals. Specifically hamsters with emo haircuts. If I could somehow retrieve my ancient art from Scratch, then I'd show y'all, but since I can't, here's my rough approximation of what they were like:

I don't remember her name, but I'm almost certain that this was what my first "official" OC looked like. Most of my OCs were just "this" but with different clothes and hairstyles, usually inspired by vocaloid songs or whatever media was popular around the early to mid 2000s. They all lived on a different planet filled with hamster (and cat) people.

Anyway, I was thinking recently about why I didn't become a furry despite this, and I think the answer is a little sadder than I expected.

As a kid, I didn't consume a lot of media with POC in them. As I mentioned before, I like anime, and that really started in my youth. I was very inspired by the unique artstyle and my dad bought me (well really himself) a few how-to-draw manga books. But I never really saw POC in them or the games I played.

You couldn't be tan in Animal Crossing without standing out in the sun during summer. Mario and friends were all white or a creature of some kind. Pajama Sam was blue. Even when I did see tan-skinned characters in anime, they were usually mean or evil characters. I was under the impression that dark skinned characters were basically not allowed to exist in the things I liked unless they were mean people. And I didn't want to make mean people. None of this was helped by my parents.

My dad who was a self-hating black man. Even though he was also a hobby-artist, he rarely drew black characters himself, and since I was emulating him at the time, I also didn't.

My mom is Filipina, so she passed her own culture onto me and tried to ignore my blackness where she could. She didn't know how to style black hair, or know that much about black culture, so it's not like she would notice or care that I wasn't embracing that side of myself.

I think I made a lot of anthro characters because 1) I wasn't quite comfortable with drawing people yet, and 2) they didn't have to be white. They were still all white or otherwise Japanese coded because anime, but I don't think I was really considering the implications of that. I was already consuming a lot of media with anthro characters, (Loony Tunes, Animal Crossing, Hamtaro, etc.) so it seemed natural to me to also make animal characters, but somehow unnatural to make a black character.

The only character I remember being explicitly black coded was a single cat that I made.

This is Bel-Bel, named after her two bells. She's a sweet, shy, and timid character that felt very self-conscious about being a cat in a hamster world. I don't remember the full story, but as I recall: when she was a baby, she was put in a basket in the ocean that floated to the hamster continent. She was taken in by another OC called Chibi, on account of her being very small even though she was one of the oldest residents, who helped take care of her until she grew up. I don't recall if all cats were meant to be evil in their world, but I do remember that most of the other hamsters were either scared of her or mean to her because she was a cat, so she cried a lot. Chibi would hit anyone that was mean to Bel-Bel with her giant hammer.

The implications of that story are kind of telling in hindsight, but I don't think I thought that much of it at the time. I was probably just emulating some other story I had heard, but I wasn't really thinking about why a story like that would resonate with me.

I created several other anthro character like that until I finally moved from Scratch to deviantART and decided that I would need an avatar to represent me. From what I saw at the time, everyone that I liked had an anime styled avatar/self-insert, and I wanted to be the same.

This is what I came up with:

This is Nekoko. She's a shy artist with a magical cat hat. This was, for all intents and purposes, supposed to be me. I think that even this early on the internet, I already knew that racism was a big problem, so I was scared of presenting myself as a black girl on the internet.

Eventually, I would become comfortable with making it known that I was a POC, so I started to depict myself as such.

But I would still bounce back and forth between using a human avatar and an anthro bunny. Sometimes even making combinations of the two as I tried to figure out how I wanted to present myself on the internet. Because even though I was dabbling in being more "honest" about myself, I don't think I was fully ready to fully commit to it.

I think after I finally reached adulthood and started to really understand myself that I felt comfortable with just being as I am. I was tired of apologizing for the things I had no control over, and just wanted to be "me". By this point, I stopped seeing animal characters as a way to mask my identity, and just thought of it as just another design choice. For me, furryism has never really been about the "fandom." For me, it was tied to identity, and it's one that was able to shed once I became more comfortable with myself.

I still think it's rad as hell to see cool animal people doing whatever weird animal people things they like to do, but that's just not something I need for myself, and so I don't consider myself a furry.

I wonder, in this age of more diverse media, if there are still kids that are currently going through what I went through. I really hope not. I hope that all kids can see themselves in the things they like and can believe that they can be a part of it if they want to be.

phinks wants to be the cool dad. he is in his daughter’s eyes, but looks like a dork to everyone else. you’ll peak into her room and see him, this absolute menace of a man, sitting at her little table and conversing with the stuffed animal tea time participants. sometimes wearing a tutu. other times with smudged makeup she swiped from your bathroom to apply on her papa. he goes IN during play time/any make believe stuff. your daughter can tell him how mr. snufflewuggle has been spreading mean rumors and the man will suplex that stuffed bear. no mercy. no chill. no one shit talks his baby, imaginary or not. phinks probably forgets he shouldn’t cuss around her and one of her first words is 100% gonna be a giggly exclamation of shit! or something. he’s sweating. murmuring about how he’s gotta fix this before mommy finds out and suplexes him...

chrollo is the cool dad that phinks aspires to be. you have to stop him from critiquing the children’s books that you both read to her at night. and yes he does voices for each character. he’ll hold onto his thoughts for when she falls asleep and later discusses the plot holes and such with you present in the story, offers macbeth or something as an alternative. you vetoed the idea. he’s extremely interested in hearing the unfiltered thoughts of your daughter. kids will just say anything that comes to mind and he finds it hilarious. maaaybe until she pokes the symbol on his forehead and calls it “weird”. he swears it didn’t hurt his feelings but you know the truth. your daughter is gonna be coming out on TOP for every summer reading deal. no competition. she wants to be just like her papa and mama so she joins you both in the living room with her own books. he’ll be reading one of the original king james editions of the bible, you’ll be reading pride and prejudice, and she’ll be reading junie b jones. it’s all as it should be.

feitan would take a bit to warm up to his offspring, but by the time the little guy says dada, he’s ready to die for him. won’t ever admit it though. feitan doesn’t really understand the timeline of childhood development so he’ll be asking why the dude isn’t walking when he’s like. a month old. you have to explain those chubby little legs aren’t going places anytime soon. since you both fight with swords, it’s inevitable your son is going to take an interest in the art too. your style is a bit cleaner and follows techniques taught in branches of sword fighting, whereas feitan is entirely self-taught. your son would probably end up learning both and alternate between them depending on the situation. feitan is not looking forward to the day his son grows taller than him... it wounds his pride juuuust the tiniest amount. starts asking you if you can take milk out of the kid’s diet when it looks like he’s getting close to overtaking him in height. :(

why leon x kaito ?? well for one (and i hate to say this) i never really liked gakukai, like i can see the appeal and i wont bash it but its just not for me,, i could say kaimei is kind of cute and that whole "being literally made for eachother" thing is also quite nice but i break out in a rash when i try to draw straight couples (slahs jay i have nothing against the heteors), BUT ALSO, leon x kaito is good, not just because i dont like other popular kaito ships, but also because its just good,, theyre the first 2 male vocaloids, part of the original 4 daisy project vocals, a couple of the only 5 v1loids, so they have like old married couple vibes to me, like theyve been together for so long that it would be weird for them to be apart, theyve just always been together yk,, also i like how they were NOT "made" for eachother, like how leon and lola were a pair, and kaito and meiko were one, so kaito x leon goes against that,, its like those queer fantasy stories/ oc universes i somtimes come across like "this PRINCE was in an ARRANGED MARRAGE with this PRINCESS, but hes GAY and shes GAY IN THE OTHER WAY", like they werent supposed ot be gasp, but they are anyway gasp. like theres no forces opposing leon x kaito but it just kind of like wasnt intended when they were created, and i just like the comfort in their queerness that they have

you might now be thinking htough, "dont the exact same things apply to lola x meiko ??" and the answer is yes i will be drawing them too. i might have drawn meiluka in the past but that was peer pressure and that ship also just kind of never was it for me, so lola x meiko it shall be.

i love the idea of the 4 daisy project vocaloids just all hanging out, like theyre all good friends, maybe they all live together slendermans creppypasta mansion style, and theyre just very mlm wlw solidarity,, or hostility either would work. they are basically all parents to the younger loids an di grergerhhhhhhhhh,,,

in otherwords leon x kaito real, as well as lola x meiko

oh also this is my own leon design, i dont have a ref drawn up but feel free to draw it this design yourself if you want to,, i think that that whitewashed leon character mascot probably has a place within the fandom, seeing as its the most commonly accepted mascot for the first ever vocaloid, but it just does not work as a protrayl of leons voice. he can be a fanloid or smthing, but actual leon is voiced by slahs modeled on a black person, same with lola, so they are both black too. my design is a bit plain and heavily based on cfm character vocal series, so ill probably work on it more in the future

sorry for all this writing but i need to make leon x kaito propaganda, as i dont think ive ever seen anyone ship them outside of "kaito x fucking everyone as long as it passes as yaoi", and i need them to be real they have been on my mind a lot recently

hi! this is the bunch-a-questions anon. this wont be an ask ask. thank you for answering! it really gives me so much insight about tools and processes, i really enjoy seeing/reading how different artists have different ways in approaching creation of art. it’s all so interesting to me

and oooh i know what you mean about looking at a lot of different artists! it’s inspiration!! i find those things to be amazing too, it’s so cool. it’s like “this spot is inspired by an artist” “this artist draws this like this, so i wanted to try” “i think the way an artist drew this was neat and i wanted to try an implement it” it reminds me of that one post how we, as people, are a mosiac of other people and i believe it to be the same for how artists are too with their art

i feel inspired by the way you draw….. everything!!! it gets me pumped to try and replicate the way you do some things. like the shapes you create, the colors you choose, the way your lineart seems to be so flowy, how dynamic everything feels and how different each drawing you create is from one another (i saw you reblog that meme of like “why shouldnt i draw characters from the waist up and that is SO me, but it’s shoulders up” because drawing full bodies makes mh drawings feel so stiff, i need to practice more!!), the poses of the characters. just.. every aspect of your art is so, so, so nice!!

the way you draw, in all your styles, it’s definitely one of the ones that is such a good scratch to my brain. it gets me all giddy and happy! i’m not sure if i’ll get into jwri, mostly because my attention span will not let me be able sit and focus on listening before i get distracted and miss context on parts, BUT i still go to your blog almost every day just so i can see your art, no matter what it is, no matter who the characters are because it’s always so so good and i love taking it in. (will eat your art if i could, i am so serious)

its okay if you can't get into jrwi, i get it! i didn't think i would get into it as well and after binging all the episodes i honestly forgot why i even started listening in the first place. remembered recently tho! it was because i was going a little crazy while making the picrew and needed some actual talking in the background instead of just music. so, if you ever decide to give it a try, or listen to something else equally as lengthy, try to busy your hands with something that doesn't require a lot of thinking! it helps me at least! worked both with jrwi and tma. it's like, doing something monotonous (knitting, sorting files, cleaning the house, etc) can be incredibly boring if i sit in silence and let my mind wonder. alternatively, listening to something long or watching a long movie can be incredibly boring as well because i struggle to pay attention to the same thing for two hours. but combining these is really good, because it keeps both my mind and hands busy, but not overwhelmingly so!

and ough ough ough thank you again for such heartwarming message! im so happy to hear that you feel inspired by my art, and i wish you good luck in your own art journey!!!!!!! remember to have fun and listen to yourself and do things that you find interesting and that you enjoy! don't force yourself to draw stuff you don't like! all art is personal and individual, so don't be afraid to make things "you"! you don't have to do clean line, you don't have to do lines at all, you don't have to do coloring or shading, if you don't like it! and if you do like it or are excited to try, you should go for it! don't be afraid to change and grow but don't force yourself into it!

wip dump :3

evil art style! my art style has quite a lot of range but I decided to default to chibis for this. I also didn't want to like, just draw one character bust up like i see most people do for it, so I wanted to come up with a way to show multiple characters on one page in an appealing manner

sonic drawing practice! I've been procrastinating this one because the lineart I've done so far on it is almost too good. I'm not sure If i can keep up the standard set

jame-joe doodles! really wanna keep developing this concept: I think it has decent potential! i don't remember how much I've shared about him but i don't think i've talked about it much beyond the base premise. Jame-Joe is inspired by characters like Dipper and Wirt, he's clever, is serious and studious in the pursuit of his goals, can be rather emotional and is prone to cowardice and insecurity, but can be determined when push comes to shove. I set myself up for a challenge here, as I want him to be expressive but limited by his doll body. It's a fun challenge though!

more 'i should start an etsy' drawings. i've seen people make like 'gacha blind bag' keychains and thought of the idea of those with aimaina-chan designs!

fdanfsdjk I almost feel bad for spoiling this one because I'm so excited to share it!!!! But i guess the sorta person to read through this post probably don't mind spoilers lol. I realized 'Timmy's a 2000s kid' and decided to go ALL IN on that. I dug deep into my memories and decided this kids going to need rainbow looms, slap-wraps, silly bandz, and those rubbery braclets where theres one white segment and one black segment and i have no clue if this is true but when i was a kid everyone always said the white segment was snow from mount everest and the black one was like sand from the bottom of the ocean. anyway! I had so much trouble wiht finding the right shade of pink that if i go trhough making a youtube video on these designs you guys will definitely here my color theory rant.

my main goal i can only describe as 'arcade carpet'

I gave him a fnaf shirt also, i dived deep into my brain as asked myself 'what graphic t-shirt from hot-topic would timmy turner wear' and i decided on fnaf because i think it's funny. so far these extra outfits have been going up in the amount of projection I'm doing. It started with spongebob's sweater vests, continued with Dannys stereotypical-transmasc fits, and now I'm lowkey just drawing stuff I've worn (actually danny's fit with the flannel I've def worn before but like, i assigned timmy a sanrio character(i gave him keropi because it's an easy way to incorporate green accents into his design lol)) anyway!!!

i had 'i want it that way' stuck in my head again and turned to queeries he proceded to give me the solution of chipi-chipi-chapa-chapa. this was not a solution obviously but whatever. i decided to use my new problem to animate myself dancing. sure. why not. if I upload this to youtube i think i should title it 'me at the function' of course i don't actually go to any functions so perhaps 'me when i' would be more fitting

Why Fawful?

I've actually got a (brief) answer written out for the FAQ on my upcoming website so I'm actually going to copypaste that here! Hope it helps!! --

"This is a HARD question to answer for me because there's no quick way to do it. I couldn't possibly list all the reasons here because that would likely require an entire essay. That being said, I'll try to sum it up for you:

Fawful makes me feel understood. He's weird in a way that's comfortably familiar to me. We understand one another's strangeness which has led to him having been one of the people in my life that make me feel less alone in all of this, especially as an autistic person. I see him and it's as if I'm meeting a kindred spirit, regardless of the fact that he's nothing but fiction to most people. In many ways he embodies a lot of traits I admire and have always want to have myself. As an example, for most of my life I had trouble expressing anger, even when the situation completely justified it. I would often back out of situations where I should've stood up for myself and instead allowed myself to be stepped on. To put it bluntly: I was a pushover.

I once had a dream where Fawful spoke to me about the concept of "righteous fury" (aka justified anger) It's the sort we all need in order to stand up for ourselves and help motivate us to do the right thing both for ourselves as well as for those around us. I'm able to utilize that in reality now much more than I used to, as if something was finally unlocked in a way I cannot even begin to explain. Being able to allow myself to just be mad and show it for once in my life has been cathartic and feels like finally being able to release all of the energy from when I was wronged in the past so I can finally move forward into the future and let it all go. I even made my first pieces of vent art as a result of this - (one in 2021, a couple more in 2022!) This is of note because previously I was NEVER able to project anger or other 'negative' emotions I needed to release into art.

THEN THERE'S THE CONFIDENCE! And the fact that he didn't always have it! We get to witness his journey from Superstar Saga to Bowser's Inside Story as a source of incredible growth for his character. Fawful literally goes from STUTTERING with anxiety when thrust into the spotlight ("St-standing in the spotlight at such a gala of spectacularity... My nerves are nervous!") to later performing on a stage all his own with complete confidence! ("Excited crowd! You feel it? Fawful is also feeling it!") That is INSPIRING to me. Having struggled with both generalized anxiety as well as panic disorder for most of my life, there's a part of me that felt if Fawful could grow through his anxiety in that way, there's no reason why I couldn't either. I've already conquered so much of my own fear in the last 3 years alone so I KNOW it's happening and he's been a big part of it!

There's also the fact that he came into my life at time when I needed him most which in turn deepened the attachment I already felt. My love for his character goes back to when I was a kid so in many ways he feels like a bridge between my past and present. He's also just fun, y'all... Everything about him is fun and colorful: from his almost-permanent smile to the kingdom he comes from being a place represented by laughter, a place I'd love to have been born in too. ALSO... HIS SENSE OF FASHION... DON'T GET ME STARTED BECAUSE I COULD RAMBLE FOR EONS ABOUT HOW MUCH I LOVE THIS MAN'S SENSE OF STYLE!!

We could also talk about how he's literally the reason I'm making art at all these days. I don't know how you wouldn't get attached to something that is the sole reason you are able to do creative work again after 8 years of feeling like it wasn't even worth the effort. (This is a story for another day, though. Just know that Fawful himself is what brought back my artistic drive! He's the reason I'm still an artist today!)

Also okay, I would be doing myself (and him) a disservice if I didn't bring up the fact that I find him incredibly sexy does indeed play a part in all of this. I've always been drawn to the unconventional, and Fawful is simply the definition of physical perfection to my brain. I don't expect nor need anyone to agree with me here, and frankly I've recieved quite the list of 'interesting' responses over the years in regards to the fact that I find him the hottest thing on God's green earth but nothing anyone says is about to change my mind about this, I assure you. ;)

Lastly, there's the subject of my dreams: Fawful's been a regular visitor to them now since 2021. These dreams are of note for being chronological in the sense that they play out as if I'm visiting with a dear friend I've met many times before. With each new visit Fawful and I recall every dream we've already experienced and are even able to discuss the things we've seen months or even years prior. I've had experiences in my sleep that are hard to put into words and translating them into some of my more expressive or abstract art is sometimes the best I can do when I don't feel like I can do them justice otherwise. Just know that they've been incredibly life changing for me and sum up everything I've said here and more. Fawful is incredibly real to me in ways that are difficult to explain to the average person and I accept that that's just how it is and that not everyone will understand. I care about him as both a character as well as an individual whom I've grown to love deeply despite his flaws.

And wow, if you've actually managed to read all of this - thank you!!"

There was a poll I saw like "are you okay with people doing their own interpretations of your OC's designs (ie: changing them when they draw them) the same way people do with fandom drawings" and like. I have a few thoughts on this.

Some degree of this is inevitable just bc of art style and ability to draw certain things. Like idk, I'm not going to be able to draw wings as well as someone else, so I might HAVE to simplify a character's complicated wings.

When it comes to fandom redesigns or even small additions like freckles, the creator of that character is unlikely to see it. Maybe that's just bc of the fandoms I've been in though. But it's less of a personal thing there, as opposed to small time OCs which are almost certain to get back to the creator

For me personally, you don't know why I gave a character a trait. A new outfit is fine, yes, but their physical appearance is still part of what makes them themself... So I would feel really weird if someone gave my characters wildly different designs

Smaller things could be fun though idk. I haven't had enough people draw my OCs for this, or rather when they HAVE drawn my OCs they've tried to stick to what I drew (understandably)
