guys cmon. be ffr please. akemi did Not love taigen. the only reason why she was desperate to search for him to the point of putting herself in danger is because she didn't want to get married to an abusive man (which she believed at the time that takayoshi was). when seki tried to dissuade her from running off, her reason was not "but i love taigen and wanna be with him 🥺" it was because she refused to be controlled and have her autonomy taken from her; she literally says "i won't be locked away in edo married to a stranger." and when seki still tries to argue that getting married to the heir of the shogun would be better than getting caught by brigands, she then says "that kind of man"—referring to takayoshi—"treats women like animals. they say he's a tyrant." and when seki chuckles and says "what man isn't?" her response is "you." she doesn't even talk about taigen. she is using him as much as he was using her. they both see—or, well, saw—each other as means to an end. for taigen he saw that marrying into the tokunobu clan would elevate his status and wealth. for akemi she wanted the right to choose who she married, and she wanted that person to be someone kind. that's it! neither of them loved each other. but since they were courting of course they acted sweet to each other, and they do still care for one another, especially due to their romantic history. but let's be real! akemi is a boss bitch who dropped taigen and forgot all about his ass as soon as she saw takayoshi was a nice guy. because duh? not only is takayoshi a better lover (it's implied their lovemaking lasted a long time) but he's also kinder towards her and presents her with an opportunity to claim power and freedom, which she would not have if she had married taigen, as she would have still been stuck under her father's thumb. so literally why should she settle for taigen's stupid ass! she may be a little naive at times but she's still incredibly intelligent. she would not do something stupid for the sake of "love." you know who would though? taigen.

Hello, you don't really need to answer this ask. I just enjoy your blog and well, idn, I just want to give a little bit of advice/encouragement. I'm bad with words, specially in English, which is not my first language, please don't take this as an insult or offense, I really tried to just come here in friendly terms (terms? That's how you said it? Idn 😅)

What I wanted to say it's, whatever you do in any fandom it's always best to do it for intrinsic motivators, specially if the fandoms are small. Having engament it's great, I'm a fanfic writer, I know that feeling of seeing any comment in my stories, but I learned long ago that I must do things for myself, for my personal enjoyment and fulfilment.

Don't get me wrong, i enjoy your blog, you will probably figure out who I am bc I'm gonna reblog stuff lmao but you know, do this for your own personal happiness, not to seek engament. I have stories from 2013 and even 2015 that to this day have no comments but I'm fine with it. I really enjoyed writing them and I'm proud of them, even if they have almost no engament at all, I wouldn't delete them for any reason <3

What I try to say it's try to not seek motivation in extrinsic motivators like engament and just do it to have fun! Do it for you, not expecting attention, but to just have fun and feel nice inside. Do gender bend, play with sexuality and relationships, explore and come out with new designs and lore, and enjoy it fully. Don't be afraid to take breaks if you need and come back when you feel like yeah, I wanna have fun with this again! I may be shooting myself in the foot since I'm saying dude take a break if you need, that it's totally fine, even tho I wnana see more of your ideas, but seriously, your personal enjoyment comes first :D

So yeah, have fun, ignore the haters and all that people that don't get what Au means can go live under a rock ;v

character study?

(please take into consideration the following things: I'm not a major, overly devoted to lore type of fan, and furthermore I haven't been in the fandom in years. the other thing is the fact that I know this is inaccurate and is more a personal thing than anything else. It's sourced from personal headcanons and nonsensical stories my brain came up with. so please crazy fnaf fans please dont come for my fucking head I beg of you)

you know when the unforgiving urge to write a fanfic for a fandom you are barely in, that makes literally no sense, and if anything goes against canon, just to make yourself feel better. to satisfy an itch in your chest.

like it's not even bad, it's just sad and probably has a lot of repressed trauma and emotions fueling it, that most defiantly need to be unpacked. but I would rather write the damn thing and get bashed by devote fans than unpack the bones in the closet you know?

it's just a stupid older brother pov fic for fnaf, about what it was like for a big brother to watch his childish actions take his brother's life. it'd be really out of character (but is that even possible, we know almost nothing about either boy, especially older brother, how can he be out of character if he is barely a character, to begin with)

I want to unwind what little we know about him and his life, smooth over the edges and see him try and bring comfort to his dying brother. to cope with his batshit crazy dad and the death he's brought into his life. to explore what it's like to lose a sibling to petty rivalry, one he started and ultimately put to an end. especially because his rivalry most likely came out of some sort of jealously or misplaced anger.

watching it kill him from the inside out, as he relives every regret, every mistake, every time he hurt his brother cause he was angry at himself or his abusive psychopath of a father.

I love to sympathize with the devil, or in this case a little boy who committed manslaughter, and I think a painfully inaccurate character study would do the trick,

Why I like them

Her compassion and empathy. I think it's one of Adora's better qualities even though it sometimes leads her astray, to quote Davros of Doctor Who, one of the Doctor's archenemies:

This is, honestly, very Adora IMO. Her capacity for compassion and empathy even towards the woman who abused her and her friends, her compassion for Hordak in the end.

But. Also, I love the few moments of Adora getting as good as she gets, I love when she's being confident and cocky. I love when she stands up for herself. And I love the moments when she finally chooses herself, something she does very rarely.

Why I don’t

The way Adora is so eager to jump at a cause, to matter. So much so she gets caught up in her new mission that it blinds her momentarily and forgets Catra. Or, takes it for granted that Catra won't just jump when Adora asked her to join her.

Adora gets so subsumed by the mission, she becomes blind to everything else, and anything that's not the mission is momentarily pushed on by being in a place where she realized how she grew-up was awful.

I still have some issues about how easily season 1!Adora can leave her life behind, it gives the impression, other than Catra that Adora never really bonded with other people.

(I attribute it to the writing choices they had to make, but it makes me sad for the OG!Adora and OG!Lonnie friendship. Season 1 was very much AtLA season 1).

Head Canon

A bit of worldbuilding, I have this headcanon that the first times Adora transforms her Eternian/First One heritage appears. Or at least template of one.

For some reason, I keep thinking that the icy detachedness is Eternian and there's a part of her that can be cold and calculating but Adora chooses not to be one.

"You miscalculated." Chilling and also awesome but also, it makes me want to explore Eternian born and bred Crown Princess Adora, House of Randor.

Also, as a Horde trained soldier, she internally suppresses a lot of instinctive harsh and aggressive strategies she comes up with because she's clocked how the much everyone in Bright Moon recoils at Horde strategy. This might be why Adora feels doubly betrayed by Glimmer when Glimmer starts using her as bait without her permission.

(Really though, it's Glimmer turning her into bait without telling her that's niggling at Adora, not the being bait part... which is, yeah).

Adora does like Catra funny and just this side of mean barbs. This is actually text, I just like mentioning it.

Unpopular opinion

I know that it's all for fun and humor but sometimes fandom takes it too far, or some fanfic takes it as writ that Adora is dumb... which she's not. Sheltered by Horde, maybe. And oblivious, but she's smart.

Catra and Adora really needed that time apart from each other, to grow apart without the other person around. Especially in season 4, which I think of as their true break-up period (breaking up when they're not even together yet). Adora cut her ties with Catra in Portal, she still cared but Adora's done being her scapegoat for everything.

A wish

Not only do I wish for the team finding and rescuing Angella, I really really want Adora to find out more about her familhy and twin brother. I feel like this is one of the dangling threads left behind especially when in majority of season 3 Adora's search for her identity was the one that drove her actions. It's one of the first few things that Adora has done for herself.

Also, that Adora gets to have that space sabbatical where she doesn't have a mission or purpose except for just traveling in space with Catra.

An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen

how are you feeling about the grishaverse fandom right now? (general populous attitude, hot topics, fics, art, ect.)

Havent been around here for long but honestly?? It could be way worse. Typically im the kind of person that the moment i see something that bothers me (that really bothers me i mean not something i generally disagree with) i take it out of my dash, i unfollow or mute or whatever so i tend to not see things that bother me. Sure there are some hot takes i dont agree with and whatnot but that happens in any context. Its a piece of media, of art if you will, and that in and on itself is subjective. I barely see genuinely immature or straight up harmful content, barely any fetishization (which, coming from kpop and anime..... damn it feels good), at least that i see.

Something ive really taken notice of is critique. Its just so easy to critique a plot line or a character and everyone is fine with it, even if they dont agree. Everyone shares thoughts, feelings, opinions, etc on the books and its okay. Which, again, coming from a kpop fandom, its mindblowing. Youre telling me no ones going to call me racist or misogynistic, no ones gonna say im being disrespectful towards leigh, no ones gonna scream at me for establishing why i dont like matthias' death? Mindblowing. Feels really nice to not feel guilty about disliking a piece of media within the grishaverse.

I must say, ive barely read any fanfic on here, but the few that ive read, the characterisation is just chefs kiss. Not reducing a character to one (1) personality trait? unheard of. Love to see it.

What i have to say about fanart tho ahem *please stop whitewashing Jesper please please please please*. Like just???? why???? he is described as being like, quite dark. And i see a lot of him either being light skin or even if hes relatively dark with whitewashed features. Please just dont. It really says something that youre loyal to everyones descriptions but him??? cmon. On a more bright side, i love love LOVE how all of us *all of us* draw kaz the same. Like, genuinely. He literally was never described as having a scar on his eyebrow and his lip or an even slightly crooked nose. But we all just...... go with it? i think its cute. Zoya on the other hand is ALWAYS different and i also think its cute how were described someone exceptionally beautiful and all of us think of different features. Love to see it.

And as for my opinions on Alarkling. Listen. I dont ship it. Obviously the Darkling is abusive (and excessively teenage edgy for a 500 year old guy but whatever). However, theres some things about him and about his relationship with Alina that are very interesting and i get why people would ship them (out of canon) and why people would want to explore their relationship. I generally just think that its a bit more complicated than Darkling Bad. This is not to excuse people who genuinely try to excuse his actions and argue that their relationship in canon is equal to malina's and even nikolina's (which is another complicated ship for many various reasons).

Another topic of discourse that i have a bone to pick with is Nikolai's marriage to Ehri. Starting with the topic of her age, although described to be "young", Nikolai himself was also described this way back when he was supposed to be around 21. The whole " Nikolai is a creep because theres an age difference with Ehri" point is one that i find pointless mainly because we don't even know Ehri's age. I feel like people also treat this as something Nikolai wants to do and that he's interested in her instead of what it is: an imprisonment in response to a crime against the Crown. Arguably (and as logical as i find it in context) making someone marry you is..... morally dubious at best. Personally i feel like its just another royal arranged marriage. Terrible in concept, but it is something that existed (and still exists but thats not a topic for this post) and that makes sense in the plot (love me that angsty political and romantic conflict and if leigh doesnt make an ehri pov i might throw myself off a window).

And i think thats all i dont think i have many other hot opinions on this fandom. I generally feel pretty comfortable here.

sorry but i have been thinking about this for ages and it’s time 2 get it off my chest

kind of wild to be a gamer & a lady & engaging in fandom in 2020 because in my social circles/life in general there is a HUUUGE disconnect (long post goes behind a cut)

growing up, Games Were Only For Boys. my first interactions with games in a sense where i was actually engaging with the story of them did not involve me at the controller, it involved me watching my brother play

in my late teens and early adulthood up til now, Fandom And Especially Fan Fiction Is For Women - obviously there are exceptions to this, but in this post i am speaking in a very broad, general, stereotyped sense

which is wild because when i began writing fanfiction (for video games, in 2003) there were a LOT of guys who also wrote fanfiction that usually just involved action/adventure plots and little to no romance and i think that stopped because the stigma of fanfiction is that it’s romance/erotica aimed towards the ladies

the Fandom That’s For Women is very very VERY focused on shipping, romance, and sex

games, especially story-heavy games, can often also be full of sex shoved in your face - but that’s sex aimed at men, not women - women in skimpy outfits, jiggly boob physics, etc

true irony is that nowadays in fandom if you DON’T write the slash or you ship m/f characters you’re more likely to get hate for being homophobic or whatever but in 2006 when i was writing fma and ff6 slash i got shit on ALL THE TIME for publishing “that gay shit” and while i’m well aware slash as it exists today existed also way before 2003-2006 i wasn’t in those spaces i was in video game spaces and They Were For Men

so if you’re not in the engaging in fandom in the Stereotypical Dude Way (no gays, only boobs & violence against women, fanfic is stupid) or the Stereotypical Lady Way (ship everyone with everyone, romance is the focus, obligatory sex scenes) you can like sometimes find this section of fandom (SOMETIMES) that’s like...all gen only gen 110% of the time ONLY wholesome content ONLY fluff canon romances get a pass but nothing else and it’s like you’d write your mom and dad, not like, Romantic, it’s innocent in an almost childlike way, because there is also the stereotype that games are Only For Children

which is fine but it’s like...a lil boring...sometimes...not that i don’t have my “gen and fluff ONLY” days/fandoms because we do get tired of pointless sex & romance - i also definitely have my “oh they are ALL fuckin” days/fandoms...experiences are fluid...

anyway much more women play games and engage in fandoms for games now & thats dope as hell but for me personally there’s still this weird disconnect of like...i want to enjoy fandom (maybe especially game fandom bc fandoms for games are almost always very small) in a way that’s adult and explores the depth of the stories available to us but i don’t want to do it in a “obligatory bikini-clad woman and blood & guts scene” way or a “obligatory sex scene & everybody’s shipped with everybody” way either so like......idk. i’m not wording this very well i don’t think

i guess i miss how game fandom was in the early/mid 00s...despite the sexism and homophobia and etc...obviously all that is bad

but i think it’s harder these days to find good solid adventure/action fics these days ESPECIALLY for video games 

bc 1. most men don’t typically write fanfiction anymore and they are less likely to write romance 2. there’s this unspoken pressure that if you ARE writing fanfiction they Gotta smooch (or do more than smooch) & if you don’t stick it in there your fic falls anywhere on a scale of “boring” to “problematic” - there’s a huge focus on romance especially between same-sex characters - and i think PART of it is because we staaaarving for seeing those sorts of relationships written BY women and queer people in proper mainstream media which is valid but also partly that it’s a self-fulfilling prophecy - everybody thinks fanfic is for romance so it continues to be about romance

i just want like a middle ground...is that too much to ask...especially in game fandoms...

ok for an example...ff13 is the WORST offender re: fandom stuff 

what little fic there is is like focused on shipping fang/vanille which i dont like bc i see her as fang’s lil sister or hope/lightning or hope/snow which is like ?!?!?! because he’s like 14 or hope/noel because they’re literally the only 2 dudes who are in their early 20s and romantically available even though they BARELY speak to one another...like half the appeal of 13 to me was the very limited romance and YEAH i love me some fang/lightning but where’s the gen?! there isn’t any because gen’s too boring!!! men would write gen but they don’t write fanfiction!!! (or there would be needless sexualizing of/violence against women. i’m not going to sit here and say i actively want to read stuff written by men more than i want to read stuff written by women when i know that’s usually how that goes lol) and when you do find gen it’s like...VERY wholesome and thats great sometimes i have written that tooth-rotting fluff but ff13 is a dark game that deals with dark stuff sometimes... you see what i mean?? 

anyway. drives me batty

and it’s wild too that the PEOPLE in my life who engage with fandom all distinctly fit into Guy Fandom or Girl Fandom or Gen Only Fandom...i rarely ever see crossovers...my brother is the first most of my friends from tumblr are the second and a lot of people i met thru undertale are the third...Girl Fandom does not engage in game fandom much, most of game fandom is Gen Only Fandom or Guy Fandom...but i want the lessened romance/sex of Gen Only and Guy Fandom, the adultness of Guy Fandom and Girl Fandom, and the “please stop objectifying and victimizing women” of Girl Fandom and Gen Only Fandom...HOW do i get this...i don’t...i can’t...Gen Only Fandom tends to stay so far away from heavier darker stuff too and i like my heavy shit...it’s a Problem...

again there are obvious exceptions to these generalizations...these are just personal observations...nobody send me mean anons...i just had to get that out there

- When I started shipping them 

@/twunk-ouma was the one that got me into the game, and he actually is the reason i started shipping oumota. I hadn’t played the game yet myself, but he would talk about how much he loved the ship so much that i started shipping it without even having played yet. i’m not particularly picky when it comes to ships (i usually end up shipping most things in one way or another) so i didnt mind shipping it before i played, and of course as soon as i did start playing, i had my eye out pretty much immediately for any ship fuel 

- My thoughts 

i have so many thoughts lmao. its my favorite v3 ship and the one i focus on the most, and i think its really underrated. i get frustrated when people misunderstand their dynamic, as well as when people try to give other characters their dynamic despite canon evidence against it 

- What makes me happy about them 

pretty much everything! i really love both characters. i think theyre really interesting and i love exploring their motives and personalities...i love thinking about them being shitlords together and about them being soft and domestic together and of course lots of angst. theyre so similar to each other but different as well, and i love thinking of different scenarios for them to be in and how they would both react. while i do like other ships as well for both of them, i do think they’re perfect for each other 

- What makes me sad about them

it also makes me sad when i think about how even though ouma’s whole “thing” is being a liar, kaito actually tells more lies in the game that ouma does. i dont think either of them particularly like themselves, but ouma doesn’t hide it as much. with kaito, hes so enthusiastic about lifting other people up and hes always so dramatic when he boats about himself that you can tell that its more of a fake it til you make it sort of thing, and i definitely dont think hes made it yet. 

- Things done in fanfic that annoys me 

i honestly dont read a lot of fanfic so this is going to be about how the fandom treats them in general instead. 

i really really hate when poeple misunderstand their dynamic. there are so many people who call this ship abusive when that really isnt true. i honestly have a difficult time seeing any of the relationships in the game as abusive considering theyve only known each other for a few weeks at most, and that’s not really how abuse works in the way you’re thinking of it...and as an abuse survivor, it upsets me to see people cheapening what abuse actually is. 

another thing i don’t like is when people think kaito tops lmao. ouma is a top, you guys just clearly aren’t ready for that conversation

and of course, i really hate how people portray them pregame. i think kaito wasn’t a bully so much as he was just a bit of a delinquent. i dont think he would beat people up and steal their lunch money, but i do think he would beat up other people for trying to steal someone’s lunch money. and i definitely dont see him as being ouma’s bully, as so many people do. 

for ouma, i dont see him as being weak pregame. quiet, yes, but not weak. he sits to the side and stays quiet and watches. hes always observing others and analyzing them. hes canonically great at reading people. and i definitely think he could hold his own against others.

WHEN YOU NOTICE THE PLOTTING IS RATHER ONE-SIDED, WHAT DO YOU DO?:  i don’t mind! sometimes ppl have more ideas that they want to share first and i’m always super happy to listen to those ideas !! sometimes its nice to have someone with a clear guide or structure and be able to work around that rather than trying to fumble through a plot together.

HOW DO YOU USUALLY PLOT WITH OTHERS, DO YOU GIVE INPUT OR LEAVE MOST WORK TOWARDS YOUR PARTNER?:  i try to map out some basic info abt their characters that i otherwise don’t know from their bio or verses and try to pick out points of confrontation or similarities to expand on with giselle that can be used as points for like a starter to happen. its either that or sometimes i have really stupid ideas i just toss out there like ‘LMAO THEYRE BREAKING SHIT AT DISNEYLAND’ and go buck wild from there if the other person is down. i also always try to warn people or get a gauge for what subjects to avoid and steer clear of considering that giselle is a bit of a Freak(tm) and will say and do bad things.

 you get to see her progression from the civil rights era to present day, and she does change a bit, but overall she’s one of the most stable characters in this ‘verse. she really learns to accept rejection, and since she adopts a literal child (Nayeli) into her family and doesn’t raise Nayeli with any expectations of her joining the Family, I think she learns to work with people during their formative adolescent years, too

Why You Love Them:

Eliza is a character from the second wave of this ‘verse, so she’s quite old to have changed so little. I just read your ask thing about Izaya and I'm super interested in what you had to say about Izaya in fanfiction! I'm not sure if you've written fanfic and if you have please point me to it, but if not do you have any how would you write him? Any ideas you're willing to share?

Oh, hey! That was really kind of you, to have an interest on that! First of all, no, I dont write fanfic. English is not my native language and I’m pretty awkward at it. =/

But I think you basically asked me if I had Izaya headcanons and how I would write him and here they go!

 - Izaya probably has read Russian literature, since he needed some use for that language other than to throw small provocations at Simon. He can probably talk really seriously about Russian Literature, the literary divergences that stems from it, the philosophy imbued on it. Its a heavy subject, full of contradictions and I can see Izaya having a fun time with it. Folks, Russian literature is The Real Shit, I know very little about it but its fun. (and depressing but ya know thats a whole other thing)

- I really, really love all of the potential that Izaya has with his little sisters, like??? It used to surprised me how little of it was explored on fandom and mostly on fanfics. I understand that everybody has their little headcanons about that, but I have no doubt those are siblings who deeply hurted each other and, yet, still profoundly love each other.

- Think about Orihara Twins sticking their noses on Shizuo/Izaya’s relationship. Think about them asking out loud Completely Innapropriate Questions, like “So did you guys had sex yet?? Kuru-nee and I were talking, right Kuru-nee?? And we got to the conclusion Shizuo-san definitely needs to get laid” and making Izaya Want To Jump from the window.

- LIke, my take is that he tries, but he cant mantain his composure At All in front of them and thats why I think they would have so much potential. I think this is why they lack scenes on canon; we inevitably learn too much about Izaya everytime the Orihara Siblings interact. Sad this isnt explored on fanfics, regardless of the plot.

- Its canon that he cares deeply about them and its canons he also cares about Shinra. And its not like this kind of thing isnt explored on fanfics, but??? Its always like “Izaya is so bitter and lonely, he’s trash hahahaha”, for once I would like to see or read some situation in which Shinra and Izaya would confront each other about the shitty friends they were for each other, and with the admission that Shinra is Absolute Trash too. And like, it doesnt have to be emotional. Just a step on their mutual character development.

- Guys I love Shinra but he is. He is Trash on Izaya’s level. Super weird this is never adressed too?? Narita himself indirectly addresses a bunch of times, but playing with the fact is Shinra’s relationship to Celty that makes him so likeable. But Shinra would be Just As Lonely if it wasnt for Celty (People werent on that hot pot because they were friends with thim, my buddy. LIke, how come??)

- And Izaya and Shinra would be, you know, rational about it?? And sarcastic little shits but they wouldnt get emotional over it. This is interesting too, their unspoken camaraderie.I really would like to read they being able to slowly rely on each other.

- People usually ignore the DRRR!! Characters background as, ya know, japanese people that live in Ikebukuro, and they forget they can talk about this?? Not talking about traditional aspects, of course. Just… 

- Is Izaya good at arcade games?? If Shizuo and Izaya are together, whos better at videogames and at getting prizes out of the claw crane machines?? (We see Chikage and his girlfriends having a scene close to one of those stores, at some point in the novels) Who get super competitive playing silly nintendo games?? (Both, its both of them). Which one of them reads mangas the most, and buys it every week?? Who are their favorite characters?? Do they have a favorite series, a favorite TV Show?? (We know Celty has fave tv shows, as an example) How come Ive never read a fanfic in which Kadota, Chikage, Shinra, Shizuo and Izaya embarass themselves at the Karaoke?? How would an Actual Date between Shizuo and Izaya be, in Ikebukuro?? Why must you people fail me like this??

- And since we’re at it, give me established domestic Shizaya; who does the laundry, who makes tea?? It doesnt have to be boring, with them it never is. Would they have a cat?? How would they name it?? Would they fight about having the cat and naming it?? The answer is yes. 

- I can see they slowly reaching a routine together, only just having small arguments over every step of the way and that’s where the potential for nice scenes lies, I think.

- Izaya has problems to go to sleep at the right time and Shizuo tries to find a way around fixing that. Shizuo is super shy when the Twins or Celty come to visit, Izaya teases him about it and tries to find a way to make him relax around others. There, we have little conflicts and ways to solve them! And it can be solved with snarky remarks, sarcastic answers, a little dose of sincerity and genuine care for the other, and look! We have a shizaya fanfic that its not a trainwreck.

- They really just need… good dialogue between them. Seriously, that’s all there is.

Second of all, I absolutely admit is very arrogant of me to criticize other people’s writing when I very much… Dont Write. I’m doing this right now since I got this ask, but as an artist I recognize the guts it takes to post your own work out there for the internet to see. Is very assholish of my part to just say I have a problem with it.

But well… I… do…. Its hard to say with which element I have a problem with cuz I honestly believe every plot can work, as long as well-written. 

But I think I have a prolem with the whole takes of either “Izaya is trash he sucks LMAO right??” or “Izaya has XXX disorder and his entire live is Pure Misery”.And when it comes to Shizuo is either “Hes brutal and hurtful and makes Izaya’s mental state worse, by never caring about him  or treating him right” which honestly  just fucking hurts. to read. Or he’s a uncaring friend or a uncaring boyfriend for plots sake in order to make Izaya hurt more like I’m tired, Canon!Shizuo is not an uncaring person, why cant I just have a fic in which they bake cookies with Akane or work out their issues or both!

But if it helps or makes any better I always make a point to leave comments and reviews to fics I like, I am a Good Citizen who leaves reviews! I just…. havent left reviews in a while because its been months Ive ever read any drrr fanfic. if you folks have recs, I’m really happy to hear about it.

Tumblr / Fangirl vocabulary

Hey! :) Last week, I’ve noticed few people asked me about vocabulary related to the fandoms or tumblr in genral, like “what does engame mean?” or “what the hell is an OTP?” so I thought I could do a “Tumblr / Fangirl vocabulary” to help people who can feel a little bit confused with all of this words. Some of these words are really easy but I wanted to write everything I know. 

TUMBLR 

Post : it’s an article in your blog, it can be a text, a picture, a link, a video, whatever. It’s literally what you’re posting on this website. 

Tags : They are some keywords helping people to find your post. 

Reblog : It’s when you share a post from another tumblr user. 

Following : The people you follow. 

Followers : The people who follow you. 

Dashboard : It’s the main page in which all the posts, from all the people you are currently following, appear. 

Explore : It’s a page with all the posts recommended for you, according to what kind of post you are posting, reblogging, liking; who you follow; who follows you; everything. 

Notes : It’s the number of interaction about a post. People can like your post, they can reblog it, they can add a “caption” (a short text or a gif, or an image, or a link, or basically anything they want). All of this appears in your notes. 

FANDOMS

Fandom : a fandom describes a subculture composed with fans characterized by a feeling of empathy and camaraderie with others who share a common interest (for example, in a book or in a movie, or in a tv show). 

Fangirl / Fanboy : a girl or a boy obsessed with a fandom.

Fanvid : a fanmade video often consisting of clips accompanied by music.

Feels : It’s a term used by fangirls or fanboys which refers to an intense wave of emotion, often unavoidable. It can be very good (like intense joy, happiness, excitement) or it can be really bad (sadness, pain, anger...). If you see a comment like “OMG THE FEEEEEEEELS” dont’ be scared. It’s totally normal and very customary in the fandom’s world. 

Squee : onomatopoetic noise released from the fangirl when she is excited.

Headcanon : It happens when a fandom accepts additional information/narrative about a character that is not in the book, show, movie, game, etc. 

Cosplay (shorter for “costume play,”) : It’s when fans dress up to portray a fictional character of a book, show, movie, game, etc. 

Hiatus : It’s a period describing when a TV show is on break (and usually fangirls are in pain).

Shipping : It’s the act of putting two characters together in a romantic or sexual relationship. For example, in The Vampire Diaries (a book and a tv show), a lot of people are shipping Elena and Damon. It means they’d like to see them together as a couple, they think Elena and Damon have feelings for each other or they like their chemestry / love / sexual attraction, whatever...

Ship : A ship is an association of two people in a relationship. Sometimes, ship names can be created and used by the community. For example: Delena is the official ship name of Damon and Elena (my previous example). 

OTP : One True Pairing. An OTP is like your best, strongest, most important ship. For example, in The Vampire Diaries, you can ship a lot of people together but saying “Delena is my OTP” means it’s your favorite couple ever.

BROTP : It’s the ultimate friendship. It’s used to describe two people who share an amazingly beautiful frienship that you might admire. The word “bromance” is often used to describe the relationship, then. 

NOTP : It’s the opposite of OTP. It’s a relationship you absolutely don’t want to see happening. It’s two people you can’t manage to imagine together. Basically, it’s a big “NOPE, NO WAY, NOT HAPPENING”.

Crackship : It’s a ship, a romantic pairing, that is unlikely to happen

Canon : It’s a term used to describe everything that is official in a fandom. It’s the official storyline established by the author, tv show creator, etc. When a ship is referred to as canon, it is real in the show, book, etc. If it’s not canon, then it doesn’t mean it’s not real and you have no right to ship it. It just means it’s not official (nothing says they have feeling for each other).

Endgame : It’s when you hope / believe / think / wish a couple you ship will end the series together (in a book, movie, tv-show, etc).

Fanfic (or Fanfiction) : It’s a story written by a fan, based on a movie, a book, a tv show, a game or any other kind of media which already exist. 

FANFIC (they have their own world, let’s be real) 

Disclaimers : They are must-have alerts written before reading the actual fanfiction. These alerts typically inform readers to whom the canon should be credited to; this helps in avoiding issues of copyright infringement.

Rating : Classification of the fanfictions : G (Suitable for all audiences), K (Intended for general audience 6 years and older. Content should be free of any coarse language, violence, and adult themes), K+ (Suitable for more mature childen, 9 years and older, with minor action violence without serious injury. May contain mild coarse language. Should not contain any adult themes), T (Suitable for teens, 13 years and older, with some violence, minor coarse language, and minor suggestive adult themes), M (Not suitable for children or teens below the age of 16 with possible strong but non-explicit adult themes, references to violence, and strong coarse language),  MA (Content is only suitable for mature adults. May contain explicit language and adult themes).

A/N (abbreviation of "Author's Note") : when the author of a fanfiction writes to the reader in a direct way (usually to leave him a message at the very beginning or at the end of a fanfic).

POV : Point of View.

Bashing : It’s when the author of a fanfiction purposely denigrate a character he or she doesn’t like in the canon show / book / movie, etc, by making him very evil, mean, violent, pervert, or horrible in any way. 

Cliffhanger : It’s when a chapter or the fanfiction itself ends in suspens, in order to interest the reader or viewer in the next chapter or fanfic.   

Crossover : It’s when you make a link between two fandoms and you mix them to create your story. For example, you could try to do a crossover between Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Supernatural, two famous tv-shows. 

Spin-off : a television show or series, book, etc., that is based on an idea or character that already exists in a previously made product. For example: The Originals is a spin-off of The Vampire Diaries which focus on the life of the Michealson family, especially Klaus. 

Songfic : It is a term used to describe a genre of fan fiction that features a fictional work interspersed with the lyrics of a relevant song

One-Shot (OS) : A term used in fanfictions to say that there will only be one body of text (usually one chapter)

Angst : It’s a type fanfiction that is pretty dark and depressing, often in which characters suffer from not being able to be together or unrequited love.

Fluff : It’s a type of fanfiction that is typically happy and sweet, often G rated, involving shameless flirting between characters. 

Smut: It’s a fanfiction that is erotic in nature.

Slash Fiction : It’s a genre of fan fiction that focuses on interpersonal attraction and sexual relationships between fictional characters of the same sex. When it’s between two women, the word “ Femslash “ is often used. 

AU (Acronym for Alternate Universe) : It’s a type of fanfiction that puts characters into different worlds or scenarios than the canon storyline.

RPF (Acronym for “Real Person Fiction”) : it’s when an author writes a story about a real person who exists in real life. For example; a fanfiction about an actual band or a singer or an actor who exists in real life. 

OC  : (Acronym for “Original Character”) : it’s a character created by the author of a fanfiction. This character doesn’t exist in the show / book / movie, etc. 

OOC (Acronym for “Out of character.”) : It’s used by fangirls / fanboys to describe a situation where a character is acting strangely, like doing or saying something that he normally would never have done or said. 

IC (Acronym for “In Character”) : it’s the opposite of OOC. It’s when an author really well describes a fictional character, respect his or her personality and all.

Here are some of the words I know. This post was really meant to help some people who could naturally feel confused with all the strange vocabulary that, we, fangirls / fanboys, use. If you have suggestions, please tell me :)

It's a wall of text and a (kinda) open letter

To preface and TL;DR. I made one tweet about how excited I was for what happened this episode and someone replied shooting me down for supporting Bumblebee saying that they just hugged it's not canon they didn't say I love you or kiss, when honestly I'm not a person that's for or against it I just kinda want the girls to be happy and it just seems like it'll be together. And that made me happy for them. Then I saw someone on tumblr being berated with people snapping at them for being sad for their different ship, while still being happy for Bumblebee shippers. So this is a post about...fandom. About how I think we should probably be considering being better to eachother if we aren't already.

Everything past here is it

Bumblebee being this close to all but outright "theyre in love love!" canon is great. It doesn't mean that people are allowed to hate other shippers now, or that the show is picking favorites in ships. These are fictional characters that have had certain stories written for them for a long time. If someone still wants to ship monochrome or ladybug or freezerburn they can! That's why the term canon exists to set apart the difference. It doesn't make it anymore of a reason to put down other shippers. Some people have lost general interest in the show for a long time and in honesty this fandom doesn't really help in this regard.

Bumblebee shippers that aren't sending death threats to writers or other people that ship something else, thanks for understanding and being a good person who is fine with whatever outcome could have come from this show.

People who think the writers gave in to fandom, please rethink the possibilities of this, we're at the point where the things Monty used to say were thought of a long time ago are finally coming to light. We got the Lost Fable which showed how the moon shattered, something that's been in the story since the trailers (back at the end 2012 and start of 2013- 5 to 6 years ago). We got more answers to Silver Eyes something that Ozpin mentioned in the first episode as a simple character trait. There are things that are probably so far down the line still we can't think of them. We don't know the answers to why things played out the way they did. If you want them maybe try watching some interviews on Rwby Rewind? Maybe wait to see if Kerry or Miles answer questions or write about what it was like to do this storyline. Just please don't jump to the conclusion that things happened because of fandom. Fandoms do fucking crazy shit, especially into the start, when maybe they don't need to and should just enjoy the show for what it's being in the moment.

If you think this is so wrong and Yang and Blake could never be together, they both like men only or something along those lines: No one has set such lines. Just because Blake stood by Adam or kissed Sun's cheek means she can't love Yang. There are bisexuals! And just because a lesbian dated guys previously doesn't mean she isn't any less of lesbian! She just realized she doesn't have that interest in men bc she dated them but is happier dating women! The same way gay guys can date a girl and realize that they just aren't into women!

If someone wants to drop the show, let them, if someone doesn't know if they want to leave the show behind, let them decide what they want to do, its their own life and they're intrests. If something isn't catering to them and they have other things and interests then maybe just let them live their life. Everyone has reasons for losing interest in something for different reasons, so don't jump at them with assumption that they're reason is bad. They can do what they want.

If you are dropping the show because you are homophobic, byeeeeeeee! I can't tell you any other way that this is the worst reason to drop a show and it's not even the shows fault or the fandoms, you're just not that great a person and I'm honestly surprised you've been in this fandom for so long as it is. Thank you for leaving and making or random just a bit of a better place for it. You can do what you want somewhere else.

Shippers, keep shipping respectfully, be the best you can be to your other shippers. Tell them how great that fanfic was or how pretty that fanart is, you don't need to say not your ship the creator does ship it so you dont need to oreo your compliments (sandwiching a thing you like, thing you dont like, thing you like, kinda comment). And hey maybe explore other ships! Not the illegal ones of course (age, incest, etc.) But maybe you never thought of Yang and Ren together or Blake and Velvet, and it sounds interesting! Be open and accept that just because someone else ships it doesn't mean they're trying to force it down you're throat. If someone is trying to come at you saying you're ship is trash and they're ship is the best, kindly tell them to fuck off and that you know they shouldn't be talking for a bunch of other people when there's like a billion other ships that are also perfect, including your own. This is sounding a little aggressive now but understand that I mean ships, just cuz you don't like them, don't mean anything because they're just a fun activity that people partake in creating content for. They deserve the respect that you would want from someone else.

Sorry for the wall of text everyone but if you read this, think I'm ridiculous for trying to be some "voice of reason" or someone who thinks this fandom is going to shit, wait. I'm plenty aware of what the fandom is like and what other people do to others. One of my favorite artists is getting anons and such about being a bad person because they are considering dropping the show. Its fine, they may be dropping it for their reasons and not for the reasons of someone else who is toxic, it's their own choice. You may say "well the show needs more support as it is now that all the homophobes are leaving" yeah it will and it's wrong you think that it won't get that. I have every faith that everthings gonna be okay, I mean I'm still here and I can't stand some of the things that have happened when it comes to real life people and this fandom, but this show is not the fandom. This show is what people see in it. This show is what people love about it. It's what people ship in it to their own satisfaction. It's what Monty, Kerry and Miles wrote TOGETHER. This show is everything that's happened in it and not what fandom hates or loves. It's just what it is.

Sorry it's long and that I only seem to contribute these kinds of posts but I appreciate that you even took the time to consider one voice in this.
