Stress Coloring ~ *Bang Chan*
Tumblr media
Summary: Both you and Chris need a break. And what better way to spend a break than by coloring together? It’s very therapeutic.
Pairing: Bang Chan X G/N!Reader
Genre: Fluffyish Drabble
Word Count: 804
Warning: A tiny bit of crying but it’s resolved quickly
Masterlist
Taglist: @foxwinter @maeleelee @mxnsxngie @kpop-will-kill-me
A/N: What do we do when we have strong feelings and yet are so exhausted to properly convey them? We write. And we hand write when our eyes are too puffy from allergies to open all the way. So my hand hurts.
As soon as he walked through the door and saw that the light was still on, he sighed. They must be tired. Carefully and quietly, Chris slipped off his shoes, put his keys and wallet away, and hugged them from behind.
They hummed in response, leaning into his embrace. Amongst the mess of notes, outlines, and assorted pens and highlighters, they had their markers and coloring pages out. There was a half finished piece and a completed mandala on top of everything. Shades of orange and yellow mixed with the pinks and purples to create almost a sunrise scene. It was very ethereal and serene. It also reflected that they could really use a break right about now.
Kissing their cheek, Chris asked, “Need any help?”
“No.” They shook their head.
“Then do you mind if I join you?”
Again, they shook their head before flipping through their coloring book. It was sort of a tradition here. Whenever one or both of them needed a break, they would bust out their vast array of coloring books and coloring supplies. Sometimes, when they were less tired, the two of them would use crayons and make Kindergarten drawings of the other. If they needed more inspiration, there was a stack of canvases and acrylic paints in the back of their closet that was always well stocked. But when they were stressed out and tired, markers or colored pencils did the trick. They weren’t the only one needing relief tonight, which was why he asked to color too.
Chris finally selected one before saying, “What colors do you see?”
It’s not that he wasn’t creative; on the contrary, the two often joked that he had all the artistic ability in the relationship. But everytime they saw an uncolored black and white page, they knew exactly how they wanted it to look. So he let them decide the colors for him. It always made him smile when they carefully selected each color.
They shook their head. “Not colors this time. I see a style, a theme.”
“Oh yeah? What’s your vision?”
“Wizard of Oz.”
Chris nodded as they laid out each color of marker, explaining what each color represented. As they did so, he glanced back at what they were coloring. Besides the completed sunrise mandala, the half-finished piece looked like a hodgepodge of random colors. It wasn’t like their normal style.
So he pointed it out. “What are you coloring?”
They paused, reflecting on their work. Eventually they said, “My thoughts and feelings.”
He nodded again before taking his markers and sitting in the chair opposite of their desk. Carefully scrutinizing each color and the empty picture before him, he tried to envision the Wizard of Oz the same way they did. Eventually he managed to figure something out and he began coloring.
About twenty minutes in, Chris was about halfway done when he heard them heave a dejected sigh. Looking up, he noticed a tear slowly crawling down their cheek. Abandoning his paper and markers to drop onto the floor, he spun their chair so that they were now facing him. Using the pads of his thumbs, he wiped their tears, cupping their face as he did so.
“Hey, look at me.” Chris breathed as their eyes, still glittering with tears, found his. “You’re okay. You’re going to be okay. I promise.”
Slipping out of their desk chair, they hugged him tightly. “It’s just so much piling up out of practically nowhere.”
Stroking their hair, he kissed their cheeks. “I know love, I know. But you can get through this. One day at a time, just like we always say. Besides, you know I’ll always be there when stress coloring isn’t enough.”
Pulling away, they wiped their eyes and nose. Chris got them a tissue to help. Sniffing, they asked, “Promise?”
Smiling, he kissed their lips before pressing his forehead to theirs. “Of course I promise. What kind of boyfriend would I be if I wasn’t?”
They laughed before slowly crawling back into their desk chair. Blowing their nose once more, they gave him a small smile to let him know they were okay now. With a soft nod, he settled back into his own chair and got to work coloring again.
It was another thirty minutes later when they presented their art to each other. They nodded before giving him a bright, albeit tired smile. “It’s definitely Wizard of Oz.”
“Yours is a lovely hodgepodge as well.”
The two of them laughed before they shyly added, “I’m also halfway done with my essay as well.”
Chris perked up even more, his smile stretching wider. “See? I told you you could do it. I’m so proud of you, love!”
Again, they chuckled before they returned to their coloring book. Ripping out another page, they asked, “Another?”

MOON KNIGHT-TOBER #1: GOLDFISH/FISH
[Image ID: A ink pen drawing of Steven Grant from the TV show Moon Knight colored mostly with monochrome markers, with black borders on the bottom and top of the image. He is leaning forward and to the left slightly, with his hand out underneath Gus, his pet double-tailed goldfish, who is colored orange with white highlights and is swimming to the right in midair. Steven is wearing the Mr. Knight suit, but the lapels of the suit have been altered to resemble a goldfish's fins and are made of a darker shimmery fabric. The suit, tie and Steven's hair float as if underwater. Steven is smiling down at Gus. There are bubbles drawn in ink pen scattered around them and the borders bleed into the drawing in the style of water currents. /end ID]
whoooooooo!!! i had this one done a couple days in advance and it was really fun! my first time coloring stuff with alcohol markers,, don't really like how much they SOAK the paper but these ones have really nice colors and pair really well with my ink lines!

Memory Test (The Riddler x Reader x Scarecrow)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jonathan heard frantic pounding on his door. When he opened the door it was you. "Hi. Can you hide me?" "From...who?" He looked you over as you panted, clearly out of breath. "Riddler." You breathed before doubling over and panted, trying to catch your breath. "Fine, come in." Jonathan sighed. "What have you done now?" He asked.
"Got my revenge." You grinned between pants. "Hm?" He tilted his head. "Okay, so here's the story." You managed out. "Let me get you water. I'm listening." Jonathan said before walking to the kitchen. "So you know how Edward is being an ass as he always is and made me do those stupid riddles?" You began. Jonathan hummed. "I got the bastard back and he's hunting me down. This is what I did."
It started off with tiny things. You took random sticky notes off of his walls. Just one. The next time you were in his apartment you took another. You waited to see if he'd notice. He never said a word. Then you started taking things like pencils and pens. A green highlighter. None that were on the desk or the Riddler would notice. Given his photographic memory, he'd remember where he put things so it couldn't be objects he'd notice straight away and used regularly. Three pens, one highlighter and seven sticky notes in and Edward began to take notice. Confusion struck him and then he figured that he must be remembering but getting the time wrong. Plus these weren't anything of real value so theft wouldn't immediately come to mind.
Then you began to spice things up a little by replacing things with others. His green pen you took was now replaced with a black one. His highlighter replaced with a green marker. This was when he began to get very confused. "What on earth?" Edward picked up the marker. "What is it?" You called from the next room. "I lost my highlighter. I could have sworn I put it in this jar but now I have a green marker in its place." You peeked your head around the door. "Don't look at my plans!" He yelled and you squeaked, backing away. "Sorry! Well you must have put it there!" "I couldn't have, I'd remember doing that." He huffed. "You don't need to think that hard over putting a pen down, Ed. Plus you don't sleep much. You must have done it whilst tired. Either way, I wouldn't worry about it!" Edward sighed. "I suppose. He didn't see your smug smile from behind the wall. You began switching two keys on his computer keyboard. Seeing he didn't look down as he typed, he didn't notice. You switched the colour of a paper clip holding documents you couldn't understand. It didn't take long for him to start screaming about how those paper clips are colour coordinated and someone must be doing this. You gaped at him perplexed. "Stop gawking at me like a fish!" Edward snapped, startling you out of your stupor. "Get used to it. This is what he does." Penguin sighed, sending you a look. "Ed, when did you last sleep?" Jonathan asked. "Three nights ago! That has nothing to do with this!" Edward exclaimed. "Get some sleep, Edward. You're making silly mistakes and too tired to even realise it." Jonathan sighed. "I'm telling you! I don't make such errors! Even if sleep deprived!" Edward argued. "So your alternative is someone broke into your apartment and switched your green paper clip with another different coloured paperclip and left?" Penguin deadpanned. Edward sputtered. "Get some sleep tonight, Edward. Consider it an experiment. If the errors continue then you can be suspicious." Jonathan drawled.
The second you heard that Edward slept you left everything alone and untouched long enough for him to come to the conclusion it was him. You waited until it wasn't on the forefront of his mind. Until things such as sleep weren't so much as a priority to him before you started again.
You took a battery. Another sticky note. A random piece of paper with scrawls on it.  That was when he was back to his hysterical state. "Where the hell could it possibly have gone! I put it in this book!" Edward screeched. "Edward, your place is a mess. Do you really think you wouldn't lose things in this?" Jonathan drawled. "It is organised...!" Edward retorted, tapping his temple. "...in here!"  Meanwhile you popped a button off of one of his remotes and dropped it on the floor. "Oops." You whispered before sneaking away.
Two days later, he noticed the button missing. "I think I'd know when a button comes off, Crane!" He screeched and Jonathan sighed, couching down and picking the small bit of red plastic off of the floor. "Found it." He said dryly. "I'm telling you, I don't do this!" Edward cried out. "Maybe you have a brain tumour." Jonathan replied. "Not the time, Jonathan!" Edward glared.
The Riddler had been scribbling away on a bit of paper, jotting down equations as Two-Face and Penguin spoke, the three creating a plan. "Damn it!" The Riddler threw his pen away. "What's wrong?" You asked. "My pen ran out of ink." He grumbled. "Anyone got a pen?" "I do. Hang on." You smiled to yourself, digging out his green pen and handing it to him. He did a double take on it and gave you a questioning look. "What?" You asked. "Is that my pen I lost?" He asked darkly. "Uh, no? I bought this." You looked at his quizzically. "Let me see that." He frowned, snatching the pen. "Hey! Don't snatch!" You flapped you hand at the feeling of his nails. "It's chipped at the same-" Edward was cut off by the door slamming open.
"Start praying now!" Ivy glared daggers into him. The Riddler scoffed. "I don't pray. Nothing is superior to me. Religion is for fools." Two-Face leaned back. "Um, Ivy, what's up hon?" He asked warily. "I'm about to splatter this thief over the walls!” Ivy lunged and The Riddler jerked out of his seat. "Thief!? What are you talking about!? Have you become even more crazy than you were prior!?" He remarked, keeping the table between both him and Ivy. "Ivy, explained yourself!" Harvey said quickly. “I couldn't find my Liverworts anywhere! Where do I find it!? In your apartment! You rotten-" "Woah, woah, woah, stop. One second. Why the hell would I steal your plant!?" Edward snapped. "I don't care why you did it!" She snapped back. "You will pay with your life!" "No, use some damn logic, what use do I have for a plant!?" "It was in your apartment!" She seethed. "Why would it be in my apar-" Edward cut himself off, his eyes on the pen once again before a dark look crossed his features. It had just occurred to him that you were always around in one way or another. You shivered under his gaze. "Well...haha...I best be off- bye!" You said loudly. "Hey!" The Riddler yelled but you were out the door so fast, you could have been that flash fellow they hear about every now and then.
"So that was you, hm?" Jonathan smirked. "Yup and now I'm screwed." You nodded. Suddenly there was a kick to Jonathan's door. "Jonathan! Open up!" You're eyes grew wide. "Time to go and hide." Jonathan grinned. "Don't tell him I'm here!" You squeaked before taking off into his room.
Jonathan opened the door and Edward pushed past him. "Have you seen (Y/N)?" Edward demanded. "Yes." Jonathan replied. "Where is the little menace-" Edward scanned the room. "I don't know." Jonathan answered. "What!? What do you mean!?" Edward frowned. "You just said you saw them!" "Correct." Jonathan said with a nod. "Stop messing with me and tell me where they are!" Edward snapped. "Edward, you asked me if I've seen them. I have seen (Y/N) before." Jonathan replied. "I mean recently! Today!" Edward snapped. "Then say what you mean." Jonathan remarked coldly. "No I haven't seen them today. Why?" "You! You thought it was me! It was (Y/N)! They've been taking my things and now that crazy woman is on my tail about a stupid plant they put in my apartment!" Edward ranted. "Then I suggest you move quickly and go elsewhere before Ivy catches up." Jonathan said crisply. With a huff, Edward stormed out just as quickly as he came in, not seeing Jonathan's smirk as he left.

@0461's blog reminds me of when I was a little kid, before my dad got cable [so until I was like 7 years old), when we had only two TV channels (if I messed with the antennae, I'd sometimes get a grainy, black and white signal from nearby Bahrain or Kuwait--Saudi Channels 1 and 2. Saudi Channel 2 was (it no longer exists) for the American and British ex-pats in Aramco and had TV shows in English, but it was mostly old stuff, like English-dubbed Kimba, Mr. Bean, 50's shows, some 80's-90's toons.
The Arabic Saudi Channel 1 (which still exists) had Maruko, Doraemon, fairy tale anime, and aired a lot of the same classic cartoons as the English channel did (... but with cuts and a bit less respect for child viewers, imaging we won't notice if they cut away mid-episode and then put on a different cartoon afterwards... which put me off and made me a little original-language-purist at a young age. ^^;;; )
That said, I still have very fond memories of watching those shows, especially as Maruko-chan, Doraemon, and many fairy tale anime never saw an English dub release, so the Arabic dub was the only way I could've seen them as a kid!
... also reminded of all those cute and colourful, but very cheap, pens, highlighters, markers, stationary, etc., with cute Sanrio characters or other cute mascot characters that... well, didn't work very well for art, so I knew to buy something of higher quality like something from Faber-Castell or Crayola, but they were so cute or sometimes had pleasant smells, so you couldn't fully regret buying them once... they're just cute to look at.
(Looking it up, looks like there are higher quality art markers and such that's Sanrio-branded, but I only meant the cheap, schoolkid-geared stationary, sometimes not even officially licensed products, but Sanrio's too huge to care...)
Mostly Japanese stationary on that blog, we also had some really cute Korean stationary like Orange Story sold here... those characters were so cute.
@tamatoch it's a blog like yours, you'd like it, I think! ^^ If you didn't already know it...
... one of my little lined notepads I used as a sketchpad as a kid seems to be a knock-off of Orange Story, even.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Top right's a knock-off of Pink Hana, but with some effort to change the hair and outfit up, so kind of creative for a knock-off! Bottom left looks like it's mixing a Cherry-like face with this White outfit, but with jeans? (This picture is from this page collecting Orange Story images.)

hi seed!! a (long) while ago you were talking about annotating books, do you use a pencil or pen or marker? do you add sticky notes and labels? do you highlight? sorry for the questions, i know i can do whatever i want but i was wondering what you do too. anyway hope you have a good day, sending you love 🥰❤️
omg hiii what i do really depends on the book and the mood im in, so i don't have like a set "method." if it's a serious book i'm reading for the first time i usually just underline and/or highlight things with quick little reactions here and there, and deeper connections happen on a second or third read (if ever). i'm biggg fan of slapping stickers in my books. so so so many stickers and doodles. i lend my books to friends often as well and they're allowed to write whatever they want so that also happens.
as far as writing utensils go, i gravitate towards pens that have a really fine print so my favs are: pilot hi-tec-c 0.25mm & 0.4mm, and sarasa gel retractable 0.5mm. the pilot ones do not bleed through At All and i love that. the sarasa doesn't necessarily bleeds but it's more visible on the other side of the page than the pilot. really all depends on how much pressure you write with; me personally i don't like to put a lot of pressure so my go to is definitely the pilot. i have both in tons of colors so i just pick one that goes with the cover or the vibe etc. the highlighters i normally use are from daiso and i can't find a link to them anywhere now but i would also recommend these ones.
example pages under the cut <3
SPOILERS for ninth house, hell bent, the atlas paradox, a place for us, the raven king
the black in the first photo is pilot hi-tec-c 0.25mm. idk what the red is in the second photo that was lys' work but the pink highlighter i Think was from the pack i linked above. the brown pen is a random one i bought in new york it glides really nicely but i dont typically use it for books bc it bleeds
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the black in the next one is also pilot 0.2mm and the green is pilot 0.4mm so u can see the difference. (the blue is again lys idk what she used. i'm guessing it is also smth similar to the pilot 0.4mm). the red is either pilot 0.4mm or the sarasa 0.5mm the orange
Tumblr media Tumblr media
sarasa gel 0.5mm in orange and of course stickers. the meme ones i get custom made from @maltruenorth bc she's my bestie but she also has an etsy shop and takes custom orders. i love these stickers they add so much personality to every single book
Tumblr media Tumblr media
these are the highlighters i normally use now. they're from daiso and idk why i can't find them on their website BUT buying online is heinous bc shipping for my location is like... $20 and im NOT paying that lmao so i would suggest finding an alternative somewhere like the ones i've linked above. i've used those and loved them.
Tumblr media
and tabs! i prefer translucent ones. again, i get mine from daiso but something like this would work as well. i like to be able to see through the tab instead of taking them off to read what's underneath but transparent ones arent fun bc i like color <3 and in case it wasnt obvious i underline with a ruler. i didn't always but it's a habit i picked up from lys and now i cannot stop doing it. makes everything look sooo much cleaner and satisfies an itch in my brain

Alright, might as well get this out of the way for archival purposes, and also because I don't really feel like spacing these out into separate posts? Eh, maybe I just need to actually produce some more content for this, but getting all old content uploaded is productive in it's own right I suppose. Here's all the art of Maribel I would consider old and outdated. Some even before I came to the realization that "this is just essentially an AU isn't it". My first drawings were done on June 6th, 2023. There's some oddball oldies between then and like, 2/3 months ago where I now have a more consistent style to go toward(though still figuring stuff out), but considering how I held off on this post I might leave those till later.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
First drawing, colored and uncolored. A clearly shocked look on her face, yet still cute(at least to me ;) ). Her long black T shirt and blue skirt are reminiscent of Madeline's jacket shape and color respectively, but the pumpkin hair shape thing I didn't decide upon until later. It's just orange here because of a common misconception that Madeline's hair is more orange than it is red. That wasn't intentional, but it did help differentiate the two.
Tumblr media
I believe this half marker half pen doodle is the 2nd ever one. Honestly might redraw this one cus the idea of her shrugging like this definitely fits her character. Also with it's color removed like this the skirt and apron combo kind of looks like a maid dress, especially with how many frills I gave the skirt here
Tumblr media
This was like a joke about her being self conscious of her weight but I think Maribel is actually the type to be fine with that. Speaking of that I have slimmed her down just a little bit between then and now.
Tumblr media
when you want to make more drawings of your cool new idea for reddit but it's like 11 PM
Tumblr media
I actually think this is one of the best portrayals of her character despite not having the pumpkin hairdo yet!
Though it does highlight a point where my artstyle(or more accurately, how I think of my artstyle) and Pizza Tower's art differs/clashes a bit, and that's with mouths. Typically I like to imagine giving characters smaller mouths and big eyes so they look more cute, but in Pizza Tower, Peppino and most of the other guys(even Gustavo partially) have big gaping jaws extending down their chins. It's been a bit of a hard thing to get around... While I'm at it, this art isn't this era of old, I made it more recently, but it does show Maribel with a more extended jaw. She's also really, really pissed off at something;
Tumblr media
(don't ask why there's a cheese grater there I couldn't answer you if I tried)
Oh right, I almost forgot, the first time I tried to make a proper pizza tower style sprite for Maribel!
Tumblr media
It sucks. This sucks so much. The refined sprite I would make later is so much better than this, just please stop looking; (the madeline sprite on the left was made by Ellisbros)

what art supplies do u use? i rly like ur doodles ....
first of all, thank you!
this is gonna be a long one. and hey, before I get into this: getting better tools does not make you a better artist. I'm serious. Please don't get things from this list to improve your art, and especially if they're just gonna languish in a drawer because you're afraid of wasting them. I love you and you deserve nice things, but they are not the key to becoming a better artist.
I've also had many, many years to collect and curate stuff. A lot of it I gave away to friends because I didn't use it. If you're new to this, don't worry about getting "all the best things". It's a little silly, and can hold you back.
Especially for sketchbooks, exploration and just messing around, quality stuff isn't necessary. if you're selling commissions or making stuff that will be hung up, yeah, quality matters, but it's mostly about how archival/lightfast stuff is, not price. you won't catch me with caran d'ache or prismacolor stuff, nuh-uh. Only one of these is good and worth the price, and spoiler, it's not the prismacolor.
also, if I catch you hanging up alcohol marker originals, I will personally come into your house and put them into a safe drawer. that shit fades, and fast.
with that out of the way:
digital: clip studio paint + wacom intuos pro medium (circa 2017?). Don't bother with wacom tho, a huion is just fine. I do recommend not getting a small one though, your wrists will thank you. I use whatever brushes i like atm, usually default or custom-made by me.
watercolor: a mix of roman szmal + renesans paints, because they're high quality and extremely local (and thus cheap!!) to me. Currently I'm using arches 185gsm cold press (100% cotton). I chose it over 300gsm because it's cheaper, and thus feels less precious, so I'm not afraid to "waste it", whatever that means. for brushes, I use a #6 kolibri pure red sable round and a really, really old #2 cotman round (111 series). I would recommend synthetics due to environmental and ethical concerns over how sable hair is harvested. I also have a #16 flat somewhere, but I have no f%$#ing clue where it is. Do note that watercolor is rarely a vegan medium, as the sizing in watercolor paper is usually gelatine. I'm sure you can do it, but idk how. for gouache i use the watercolors mentioned above + white gouache because I'm a rebel. I do have a renesans gouache set tho, and will use it up because I hate wasting things.
ink: winsor&newton black and white shellac ink. I discovered G-pen nibs like a week ago and they're my jam, but I used a LS40 nib before (too flexy). FWIW i also use a white sakura gelly roll for white highlights sometimes, and sakura pigma microns in various sizes and colors (usually 003, 01, PN). I also use regular fountain pen ink in a fountain pen because it's fun.
sketchbooks/paper: royal talens art creation. they are the superior affordable sketchbook, no contest. I love the 12x12cm size and A5 bound on the short side. I'm also using a 12x12cm sakura sketchbook with black paper for gouache doodles. for watercolors, I use 100% cotton as mentioned before, as that is the only medium I ever consider selling to people. Everything else I don't bother keeping archival, so it's in my sketchbook or on cheap-ass copy paper. go nuts.
pencils: I prefer a 2H for layouts on watercolor paper and a HB for sketching, usually either a faber castell 9000 (the dark green ones) because idk they make me happy and are nice and smooth. Usually it's "whatever" though. as long as it writes and doesn't scratch I can use it.
colored pencils: a 36 set of faber castell polychromos and i refuse to elaborate
misc. sketching supplies: uni nano dia color mechanical pencil leads. My #1 most used is pink and I plan on getting more colors. for normal mechanical pencil lead i use a HB refill in whatever brand i can find (I'm even less picky than with wooden pencils). All of these are in 0.5mm size. oh, and tons of misc. cheapo colored pencils I have laying around, like most artists. for erasers, usually it's "whatever" but I do carry several with me at all times. current faves are colored kneadable erasers (ooo pretty colors!!), milan tri jet, pentel hi-polymer in green, pentel hi-polymer slim. pencil sharpeners are also a whatever as long as it doesn't break my pencil, but I do really like the derwent long point (i have the mini, its cute) for cute accents of color i use whatever pastel highlighter i have at hand, or a crayola supertip. I sometimes also use alcohol markers, but rarely.
alcohol markers: copic ciao, but don't bother buying them. ohuhu has refills now and copics lost their only advantage.
acrylic paint: renesans flowacryl, but I do plan to switch to golden fluid at some point. this is exclusively for mtg alters, btw. in terms of brushes, I use a #0 milan round (golden taklon i think but idk and I don't have any at hand rn to check) and a #6 oval (it's flat but with rounded off corners) in whatever brand is available.
i think i covered it all! now go grab a pencil and copy paper, and have fun. this is a threat.

I’m like 2.5k words into a thing and I need a break. Let’s talk about hand writing and writing utensils.
L has shit handwriting normally. He does most of his writing on computers and the last time he consistently wrote things other people had to read was probably when he was like 8. If he’s writing for himself— notes, reminders, that sort of thing— he probably goes for markers, felt-tips, brush tips, and just generally pens that are generous with the ink because if you write things in a permanent medium like pen you can look back at your previous thoughts and find them so that if you hit a dead-end you can go back and look at that. If he does have to write something that other people have to read on paper, it’s going to take him a while, and he probably has a bias towards ball-points and pens that make indents in the paper because it forces him to slow down and actually write the letters out properly. Of course, his bias is always towards just opening a notes doc and figuring things out on that but in a pinch that’s the route.
Light has 1 brand of pens and mechanical pencils he buys from, and they are sharp and highly pigmented. He buys them in bulk. His handwriting could absolutely be a font and all of his notes are sterile but clearly organized. He only uses yellow highlighters. He doesn’t strike me as a docs type of guy; he seems like the type to want to write things out on paper because it’ll help him remember school material better. He dates all his pages in the bottom outside corners and numbers them if applicable and he’s actually studied how to write well.
Misa went through a quill/dip pen phase in middle school. She now uses gel pens/glitter pens but she still owns those pens and will crack them out if she wants to write a letter. She has made no effort to improve her handwriting in any way but she did learn calligraphy so while, if she took notes, they would look fairly ordinary, all the titles would be gorgeous. Not much in a situation to write a ton these days outside of using the death note, though, but if she ever made Light lunch with a note she would absolutely pull out the glitter pens.
Mello writes like a founding father. Mello does not mean to write like a founding father, but that is what has happened. Not a ton of precedent for him to write either, but he is a wooden, No 2 pencil kinda guy. If he has to write in pen it’s the blue ballpoint pens you get at school. Writing is writing; no need to get all fancy with it.
Near has not written a damn thing in his life. If you asked Near to write something on a piece of paper it would take him forever. He’s into those erasable pens, and prefers blue ink to black. He has a good enough memory to just not write things down, though, so it works out.
Beyond Birthday does not just write shit down. Writing something down is a god damn event; he has the good brush pens and the nice stationary and it is a whole thing. He has a box just filled with calligraphy stuff and stamps and inks and the whole thing. His handwriting is just art. The price, however, is that he is the slowest typist. He is more involved in pop culture and the internet as a community than your average guy, but he types with one finger like a grandmother. Regardless, in another time he would have made good money lettering.
Naomi Misora has good handwriting, but she’s not a fast writer. She uses a click pen. She does go out of her way to actually check to see if all her Ts are crossed and Is dotted, though. Great typist. Absolutely smudges the ink on most things she writes on, which is not a deterrent to writing things out on paper but is annoying. Will also use mechanical pencils but is the type to erase letters and rewrite them so many times that the paper starts looking gross so she doesn’t use them often.

[Review] Fortress Festival
I went to Fortress Festival in Scarborough this weekend just gone and had a blast. Here’s a little review of some of the bands I saw.
Friday
Friday kicked off at 2pm with English BM band Andracca and what an opener it was.   Crowd was disappointingly light for them and I felt a little bad but it was the very first set of the entire festival. They still earned some new fans, myself included. Great energy and intensity.
Next came another English BM band - Andartar. Heavier than Andracca but similarly great intensity. I knew I'd stumbled upon a brilliant festival already at this point. Another pic. Lighting was great throughout the whole fest.
Slight change of pace next with Devastator, a black thrash band from Derby. First pit of the weekend starts, even if it only consisted of around 6 people. They got a great reception and put on a good show and their set was 30 minutes, same as the two before.
Then we get to our first jaw drop of the festival. The Sun's Journey Through The Night. One man band from England recently nominated for Metalhammer's Song of the Week. Incredible performance and highly recommend them. Nice theatrics with the horned skull mask and just fantastic energy from everyone involved. I also got a drumstick from them, cheers!
Wode come next. 40 minute set this time. Manchester black/death metal. Loved his vocals.
Then we have Finnish pagans Havukruunu. Setting the 'atmospheric' tone for the rest of the evening with a nice intro. Place was looking full now, though it was amazing how spacey the room felt. Should also note the crowd was really chilled and friendly. Great set, loved the bassist's bullet crown.
Time for the headliners. I say headliners because they both played for the same amount of time and both felt like they had the right to finish the first day off. So - an hour's set from the magnificent Can Bardd from Switzerland. Beautiful atmospheric folky black metal, many people said they were their favourite band of the weekend. Great set and, as you can see, the place was really alive. Popped out for a smoke and thought 'what a place'.
To finish off, Saor from Scotland. First time hearing electric bagpipes which was a fun experience. Just like every other one that day it was a brilliant set, the crowd were really into it and I especially enjoyed the flute(?). Frontman Andy engaged spoke with the crowd a few times. Nice view leaving the spa.
Saturday
Back  to Scarborough Spa - which was once again looking ravishing - just in time for the post-black metal openers from Birmingham, Lunar Mercia, at 12:30. Really nice sound and lovely vocalist who I'd spoken to the day before.
Next we have Nemorous. Basically Wodensthrone v2 as it's made up of mostly ex-members. Started amazingly, finished amazingly, but suffered a very unfortunate snapped guitar string in the middle that seemed to take an AGE to restring. The crowd was totally sympathetic but you could feel the frustration from the entire band, I can't imagine how disappointed they were. Think they only managed around four songs but they did a great job and I went and bought a t-shirt afterwards. Visceral vocals and first keyboardist of the festival.
My personal highlight of the weekend came at the end of Nemorous' set. Just before they started I checked in at the Panopticon stand and got myself a copy of Kentucky. £80 on Discogs currently but they were selling them for £35. That alone made me very happy, but, whilst watching Nemorous, I noticed a familiar face. There was Austin Lunn from Panopticon, the reason I bought the ticket to this festival, going ham at the barrier (the guy with the hair, obviously). Once the set finished he very kindly signed my copy of Kentucky after I frantically searched for a marker pen and got a photo with him. He stuck around to chat for a few minutes and was one of the nicest musicians I've ever met. So enthusiastic and asking loads of questions.  My weekend was made and absolutely nothing could've ruined it at that point.
After a short break and a few beers I got back in time for Ard. Described as 'Monastic Northumbrian doom', Ard is the project of Mark Deeks from Winterfylleth. As a one man project he was naturally assisted by the rest of Winterfylleth! This was a real change of pace from the black metal we'd been listening to since early Friday afternoon and he did thank everybody for sticking around for him 'even though there were no blast beats'. Really enjoyable set.
Next, Ante-Inferno, from Scarborough itself, with the drummer being the organiser of the festival, Gary. Really been enjoying their most recent album 'Antediluvian Dreamscapes' and they were a class act. In case you haven't caught on, everyone at this festival was fucking great. Really loved the vocals here.
Here we have one of my biggest highlights of the weekend and a band I've not stopped listening to since I left Scarborough.  Afsky, from Denmark. They rendered me absolutely speechless. Sure, the wood and the torches and the industrial fan were a nice touch, but they played with an intensity I hadn't seen to this point. The sound was amazing and the screams were just top drawer. As you can see in this video, it was way busier on the Saturday. Room was packed but, like Friday, far from cramped. I've listened to them every day since Saturday and I finished one of their albums on the drive home.
It was getting real misty at this point. Eldritch powers or smoke machine, who can say?
Penultimate act of the day, English black metal darlings Winterfylleth. Mark Deeks from Ard back behind the keyboard this time. I'm a fan of Winterfylleth and it was my first time seeing them but I wasn't really blown away. They were good, I think I just expected them to be better. Or maybe it was the anticipation of Panopticon around the corner... either way, there was a better pit this time as well as a few corpse-painted balloons floating around. Very kvlt.
Finally, my time had come. I bought my ticket for Fortress the moment I heard Panopticon were there. One of my favourite black metal bands, with Kentucky being one of my favourite albums of all time. At this point, around 21:30, I hadn't had a pint for about 2 hours to avoid needing a piss and losing my spot at the front. I got right to the barrier, which was insanely easy, and waited it out. Soundcheck took a little while and the whole fest was probably running a solid 15/20 mins behind. Think Austin Lunn spent more time trying to balance his 'Commonwealth of Kentucky' flag on his amp than actually doing the soundcheck, not that I was complaining.
And then we were off. They were fucking amazing in every way. I was emotional. So much Kentucky material, including the wonderful little folky bits. Austin wasn't satisfied with the sound at the start and kept asking for more guitar, not that it interrupted his flow at all. Though, the string instrument they were using (fiddle? violin? idk) could've definitely been a bit louder. Austin's vocals were fantastic but I was utterly blown away by their keyboardist, who's name I don't know. Guitar work was fantastic and at times it sounded just like the studio album.
Austin did an impromptu meet and greet afterwards, just jumped down from the stage and started to chatting to people. Really phenomenal set. Sadly it was the end of the road for me, as I couldn't stay for Sunday's lineup due to work, but I had had an incredible time and finishing with Panopticon was a moment I'll never forget.
I heard Sunday was also good, though I think it would be fair to say the lineup was slightly weaker. Heard great things about Abduction and Cenotaphe, though I've heard a few things about Bolzer having a nightmare with soundchecking (as in it took fucking ages and he had a go at the sound engineer - and someone may have heckled him?) but I can't say much more as I wasn't there. A friend did say they were really good once that got out of the way.
Favourite sets: Panopticon, Afsky, The Suns Journey Through The Night. In that order.
Final thoughts
Fortress is one of the best festivals I've ever been to. Not because it was flashy or had the best lineup or anything like that (though Panopticon puts it up there for me), but just because it was so well organised and chilled. Everyone was super friendly, there was zero hassle, the venue was incredible, and all the bands delivered.
They've already confirmed they're going again for 2024 and they're moving to the bigger room at Scarborough Spa which holds 1800 and looks awesome. It's going from 3 days to 2 days (Saturday and Sunday).  Here's their Facebook page and there's a forum with plenty more pictures and discussion and links to other black metal gigs in the UK, worth joining.
Thanks for reading.

Long Blog: Lost Boys Con/Afterparty of August 20-21, 2022 with Video & Pictures
This has been the highlight of my year, after being self-isolated in my home due to health anxiety. I'm a big fan of the Lost Boys and have a crush on David. I used to say that the only way I would leave my house is if Kiefer Sutherland would show up, and life basically asked, "How's about almost everyone else?" The fact that if you get into the afterparty, you can see Tom Mac and Corey Feldman perform, made this more irresistible. As a vampire and Lost Boys fan, I felt I was obligated to go. I immediately got The Frog Brothers VIP tickets, which allowed me to go both days and came with table photos, autographs, professionsl frog brothers photograph, tote bag, shirt, posters, stickers, buttons, and afterparty passes.
Tumblr media
After going to the con in my walking Victorian outfit, we went to get our bracelets, vouches, stickers, buttons, poster and the shirt. They didn't have the tote bags yet, unfortunately. There was a few selections for the shirt, but this one was the only one in black and I knew I wouldn't wear it out otherwise.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first person I saw was Jason Patric, who played Michael. He was in a room that was separated from the rest of the cast, who all had booths out in an area, which they called the Broadwalk (loved the name), like at your usual cons. I was the first in line and waited while he was getting ready. When he came out, my mum said, "Hey, Michael. Where's your glasses?" That made him laugh. We talked about the show and I asked him about the flying scenes and the fall from the bridge. He said that they used harnesses for flying, as I thought, and they really did fall off a bridge with a machine that created the frog to make it look like it was a longer fall than what it was. We then talked about Sutherland for a bit, and he said that he sometimes just shows up to these events, but this time he probably won't, because he is busy doing something else. We took a picture and signed my DVD that I brought with me. At first, he used a red pen and wrote something like: "Melissa - Thank you for all of your support! - Jason Patric." My mum immediately put it in a ziplocked bag, while I was saying my goodbyes and getting a hug from him, which made me anxious. My feelings were confirmed when I quickly took it out to see the marker had smeared. "Oh no," I gasped, which got the attention of the worker that was next to him. After he was finished with the next person in line, the worker told him about the autographed being smeared. The DVD was wiped off and this time he signed it with a black marker as "Melissa - you're favorite movie, thank you - Jason Patric." He started writing his name at the bottom, before I could let him know other people were going to sign it, so I took a picture of it before it got crazy and I would forget which part was his.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next, I went to the broadwalk and meet Ve Neill, who was the makeup artist for the movie. She also did Beetlejuice, Pirates of the Caribbean, Edward Scissorhands, and more. The first thing she said when I walked up to her was that she loved my dress. Already off to a great start! I basically asked how much creative power did she have over the work, and she explain that there was a team, obviously, but how she said it works isn't fresh in my mind enough to write. We took a picture and she signed a photo I picked out from the table as "To Melissa, Love Love - Ve Neill." She then said that she loved my hair and asked if those were my real nails and if she could she them. To those that don't know me in real life, I have vampire nails with the longest being roughly 2 inches long (just took out a measuring tape). And yes, they are real. I gave her my hand for a closer look, as she felt them and stared in awe, before saying that they were beautiful.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I believe at this point, G. Tom Mac and Jamison Newlander were busy with professional photoshoots. It was getting close to the time for the Frog Brothers photoshoot, and after asking around, I found out it was delayed, because Corey Feldman wasn't there yet. While I waited, I went upstairs to my favorite witch shop and to see my friend that used to work there (and hopefully I will too someday). We hugged and briefly talked. While I was there, I bought two incense called "Vampire's Orchid" and "Dracula's Blood," which smells great and would add a special touch to my work.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To kill more time, I went looking at a few vendors. One had a vampiric display for photoshoots that had coffin with a removable lid. Of course, I had to take some photos and the nice owner helped me in the coffin with my long dress. I had a few more photo ideas, but didn't want to take up too much time, and couldn't find them again after that day. I wonder which shop that was and where they went.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When I went back to the broadwalk, they were all there, except for Newlander. I went to see G Tom Mac first, and the first thing I said was how much I loved the "Cry Little Sister" song. We took a table photo and he signed my DVD with "To Melissa - Cry Little Sister - G Tom Mac." He also had copies of the original draft of the song, and about four CDs of the musical. When I saw the CD, I gasped and asked, "There is a musical?" He explained that it was set to be performed, but Covid pushed back the production. I bought the CD, but not an additional autograph for it, and told him that I was a theatre actor and I can't believe I never heard of this before. "Here, let me sign it too," he said and autographed it for free as "To Melissa, you rock, little sister! - G Tom Mac." When he handed it to me, he told me that I need to go home and listen to it and tell him what thought if I did, and he'll also be performing the songs live at the afterparty.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next, I met Billy Wright, who played Dwayne. We briefly talked and he asked how did I find out about the film, and I told him that I always loved fictional vampires and I'm involved in the vampire community, which this film is famous amongst and labeled as a must see. When asked if I wanted to purchase photos/autographs, I said that already prepaid for them, but it was for tomorrow and I just wanted to say hi for today. We said goodbye and that he'll see me tomorrow.
By this time, Jamison Newlander was at his table and I went to see him. He was probably the highlight of the con and we joked around a lot. When he saw me, he said that I was the most obvious vampire he has ever seen. We took a picture and I gave him my DVD to sign. He asked what he should write and I suggested his favorite quote. He said that he suddenly forgot all of the quotes. Then, he asked, "How's about 'Shit! It's the attack of Eddie Munster?'" I said, "That's perfect, because I'm a vampire." He shortened the autograph to "It's the attack of Eddie Munster! xo - Jamison Newlander" to make room. After he finished, he jokingly said, "A vampire around a frog brother. That's dangerous." We laughed, and then I asked about Corey Feldman and the photoshoot. The worker told me that he still wasn't there.
Tumblr media
While I was walking around, I saw two people that looked very much like David and Michael. Of course, I had to take a picture of them. I also asked if they were best friends, but apparently, they just met at the con and people kept asking to take pictures with both of them, so they just stuck together.
Tumblr media
Eventually, Corey Feldman showed up, while everyone else seemed to be putting stuff away for the day. Here, I found out his tour bus broke down. He was in a room separated from everyone else, like Patric, and the line was long. There was also a VIP line that would get in quicker, but the man at the door said I needed another type of VIP pass. A woman in the VIP line said that we belonged with them, because I have the VIP Frog Brothers pass and kept gesturing us over. My mum didn't want to stand in a long line if we didn't have to, and further convinced me to get in that line. When we were in front, the man said he saw us cut the line and we can't be doing that, and once again told us to go in the other line. Now, we were at the end of a very long line, which didn't seem to be moving. So, we went back to the office area and asked if we can come tomorrow, since Feldman came late. They moved our picture day to the next day and told us we can skip the line this time. It's a good thing we did that, because I later found out on Facebook that Feldman stood till midnight greeting fans. What a nice guy.
The next day, we quickly went to the office to see if the tote bag came, which it didn't, and get the pre-paid meet and greet for Billy Wright. Since the photoshoot wasn't happening yet, I went straight to see him again. We briefly talked, took a picture, and I gave him the DVD to sign. When he saw it, he said, "Wow, there's a lot of signatures here. Are you sure you're going to have room for the others?" So, he just signed his name right under the beginning of Tom Mac's autograph. I asked if he was also going to be at the afterparty, and he said that he might for a little while.
Tumblr media
I went up to everyone one last time. G Tom Mac asked if I had listened to the album yet, and I confessed that I didn't; I was too tired and went straight to bed. He said that he'll be performing it at the club, so I get to experience it live. Ve Neill once again complemented me about my hair, and we hugged one last time. She thought it was sweet that I came by to say bye to her.
Then, we went to stand in line for the Frog Brothers photoshoot. We were one of the first ones there, so we got in faster. I haven't met Feldman yet, but Newlander recognized me immediately. We stood in front of a green screen and took the picture. Afterwards, Newlander said, "That's pretty risky of you, for a vampire to be this close to the Frog brothers. I could stake you." He spoke the last sentence while making a staking gesture towards me, which made me laugh and say, "The idea is to become your friends, so you won't do that." I didn't get the prints immediately, because they had technological difficulties and told me to come back later.
Tumblr media
Next, we immediately stood in the fastest line for Corey Feldman's meet and greet. Since they were still doing the group photos, it took a while. While in line, I talked to someone that had the same passes as I did, and overheard someone say they go to every Sutherland event they can and got a bit jealous. A Victorian-like vampire couple walked by us, and I stopped them to take a picture of them and get their instagram account (@zevalud). "Have a fang-tasic night," the girl said as she walked away. While this happened, the line moved without us and I became the only one in the fastest lane.
Tumblr media
Once I got in, a girl took my tickets for him and marked me for only getting the autograph. When I tried to explain to her that the VIP gets both, she showed me my ticket and said, "Well, the office only marked your ticket for the autograph." The man that I talked to before, who was now in front of me, said that I should have gotten the photo too. We were lead into a room with his booth, where there was two lines, and he alternated from autographs to pictures after every ten people. Before I met him, they told me to keep the conversation minimal, since he has a lot of people to get through. I gave him the DVD to sign and told him that I also loved him in Gremlins. He thanked me and said that it was also fun to shoot, while he signed the middle of the DVD as "To Melissa, my love - Corey Feldman 22." After he signed it, the next worker asked if I'm also getting a picture with him, and I replied, "I don't know. I have the VIP Frog Brothers pass." He told me that it came with it and put me in that line, so I guess I got it anyway. I was about to angrily march to the office and ask them if it was a mistake, then quickly go back with the correct markings, but this saved me some time. We hugged and I took a picture with him. Afterwards, he jokingly said, "Wait. Hey, you forgot to smile." I laughed and played along, saying, "Oh no, I guess I need to take another one."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While walking around again, I saw the one cosplaying as David again. He said to meet him by his store with the pinball machine, if we wanted to talk, because he'll be over there soon. It took me a while to find him, since I thought I was looking for a store rather than a vendor. Once I found him, we talk and became friends. I found out that his name is Michael (ironically), he owns a store called Michaels Horror and Pins and is the lead for a band called Malicide. I then got an idea to take a picture of him biting me, which he gladly did and the picture came out great. I wish I didn't need the mask, but all well.
Tumblr media
Michael had already gotten his professional photo back, so I went back to the room to check on the progress of mine. They had it working again, but it was slow and would take a while to get to mine. While I waited, I walked around, looking at all the cool vendors. There was one (Gothic Yoga) that was selling gothic perfume, including one called "The Vampire's Kiss," which I later purchased. The owner of that shop was really nice and gave me bat fridge magnet, which I kept staring at, for free. There was also another shop that sold perfume that I loved, but didn't buy anything from, and I wish I had name.
Tumblr media
Another shop that I recalled was owned by @koffin_kitty_ on Instagram, who is also really nice and is talented with makeup and paintings. She has plenty of artwork, some completely original and others of famous characters.
Tumblr media
Her sister, I think, also bakes and they have some delicious treats there for sale. After looking at all the vendors, we sat down. Eventually, one of them came up to us with some cakes, before they packed up, and said they didn't want to take too many home and saw us looking at them before. That was really sweet of them. There was two cupcakes (one had eyes and the other looked like blood and glass), a chocolate cake pop that looks red with a bunch of eyes, a vanilla cake pop that ironically looks like it would be chocolate and had green-ish sprinkles on top, and two pieces of gingerbread cake that I forgot to take a picture of before eating it up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After we snacked and rested, we went back to the room again for my photo, which, as you'd probably guessed, didn't come in yet. At this point, there was nothing else to do, so I just waited in the room for it to be finished. Eventually, they said they would just bring them to the afterparty and would give them to us there.
By the time we got to the bus, it was too late to stop for something to eat, as originally planned, and we had to go straight to the afterparty. There was already a line, but as time went on, we were basically towards the front. Someone in front was smoking, which I'm allergic to, so I turned around. This is when the girl behind me complemented me on my dress and she was with her husband. Then, the girl that was previously smoking joined in the conversation, and she brought her friend in. I got everyone's social media/numbers and asked if anyone had a charger, since my phone was going to go dead. The girl's friend said he can use his car to charge it up, so we went with him and talked, before one of my new friends told us they were opening the doors. It charged some, but not much, and we went back in line to go in.
The place looked amazing; there was lights, a dance floor, a few tables and chairs on the sides and, of course, a stage. Ve Neill was standing towards the entrance and said hi to me. A lot of people already claimed seats, so it took me a bit to find an empty chair to relax in. The vampire couple passed me by, but this time, the man had a wolf head on. The first band that played was Murder by Love. At one point the lead yelled in the mic, "Who wants to sleep tonight?!" Everyone was either amused or briefly confused. Then, he said, "Some guy in the back actually raised his hand and went 'YEAH!' And, he has a Ghostbrothers backpack with I think a sleeping bag. Dude, that's lame. This is The Lost Boys; we never sleep!" My mum and I thought that was funny. Not as funny while writing it though; maybe it's his timing and voice.
After two of their songs, the first friend that I met came up to me and asked me to dance. The friends I just met, the Victorian vampire couple, and I were all dancing together on the dance floor. Eventually, Newlander was dancing with us too. After Murder by Love was finished, the club played a few songs and he got really into "Blinding Lights." I had to film that I danced with a Frog brother, or else no one would believe me. I also saw Billy Wright came for a few moments; he was one the side, enjoying the music. The couple that I met in line also left early, sadily, even before Mac or Felman performed.
Once we heard the beginning of "Cry Little Sister" and a video playing, we all went quickly towards the stage. G Tom Mac took the stage and was performing the music from the musical, as he said he would. I wished I would have listen to the songs before the second day of the con, so I can tell him how much I enjoyed it. He brought Newlander to the stage, while he performed "Frog Bro Hero." Newlander looked like he didn't know the song well enough to join in, but he was dancing and look like he was having a great time up there. That became my favorite song from the musical and I find myself needing to play it every now and then. It was catchy. He showed us the music video for "Cry Little Sister" before it came out online and when he sung that song live, it felt like a dream.
Next, Corey Feldman immediately took the stage with his band and his angelic dressed wife. Regrettably, I also never heard his music before that night either, but it was a great way to experience it for the first time. His moves reminded me of Michael Jackson and I wished Courtney Feldman would have done another song. He also invited Newlander onto the stage to sing "People are Strange" and I think that was one of my favorite moments. Also, this time, he choose the harder way to get on stage by climbing in the front and the audience was helping him up. I loved how happy he was and playing along with their requests. During Felman's performance, my camera was running out of battery and had to keep switching between that and my phone. Also, everyone just kept getting drunker and one person was really close behind me, while jumping up and down, and eventually fell. When someone kept raising their beer bottle up and splashing their drink on top of my head, I left the crowd and took my seat again to rest. My mum was there and had gotten the professional photo (finally).
Video of afterparty:
After it seemed like he was finished, I tried calling an Uber, but my phone had died on me. I went to the bar and the workers by door, asking for a charger. Everyone seemed to have an iPhone. Eventually, it sounded like Felman decided to go back on stage, after he said he was finished, but I was too focused on finding a way to get home and I kept thinking that he seems to have a lot of energy. After some time, they finally found a charger for me, and I stood charging my phone by the entrance. When I heard them finish, I quickly went back to say goodbye to Newlander. He hugged me and said that I was cool, and thanked me for dancing with him. I went back to call the Uber, but the app was misbehaving. One of the friends that I met was going to leave and notice me struggling, so he helped me get home after the girl came out, who went backstage with one of the drummers (lucky).
What about the tote bag? I eventually got it when I stopped by at another con they were doing.
Tumblr media
Overall, this was one of the best moments of my life. I haven't been to a comic con, where the actors were so interactive with their fans and had an afterparty, plus I never meet so many new friends just by going to one con and we still talk to each other today. There was a lot of waiting and I spent a lot of money on VIP tickets, but it was all wroth it.

Day 9, InDesign Page Numbers, Margins & Columns. Illustrator Patterns.
Tumblr media
Today we started by creating an A5 page document and making multi pages by opening the Pages window in the top toolbar. You click the plus button at the bottom to create more pages, 12 in total.
On the first and last page we created a text box and added Cover in the first and Back Cover in the end.
Tumblr media
We added page numbers to our inside pages, to do this we created text boxes on the parent pages, highlighted the number went into Type -> Insert special character -> markers -> current page number. Then we applied this parent page A to all of the pages we wanted the numbers on by dragging the parent page onto them. (Our cover and end cover are pages that are seperate so we want the NONE parent page applied to those).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We added margins to our parent pages to do this you select the parent pages. (Make sure they are both highlighted in blue), and open margins and columns from the layout top toolbar. For mine I unlinked the margins, had a top, left and right margin of 19mm and bottom of 24mm. I also centre aligned the page numbers on the A parent pages.
Tumblr media
I made three black pages but my page numbers on A parent were black too so I couldn't see them. To fix this I duplicated A parent pages by clicking and dragging it onto the plus button and within that those parent pages I changed the text colour of the characters to white. To apply this to my black pages I simply clicked and dragged my B parent pages down onto the black pages.
Tumblr media
Here I completed two pages of my twelve. To show some formatting. Using black rectangles for image placeholders and place holder text in different sizes. Like our frog on a log images in the last exercise, you are also able to format text boxes around other text. I did this with the text in the middle of page 3, it has a wrapping around the bounding box setting.
Tumblr media
Next we created Endpapers which are the cool patterned pages inside the cover of a book especially hardcovers.
Tumblr media
To do this we created a Illustrator file and using the pen tool created a pattern we liked. We put this on top of shape and grouped them, using this we are able to drag this into our swatches panel and it creates a pattern. From there we added a new art board and using the rectangle tool dragged to fill the whole art board and filled it using our made swatch.
Tumblr media
In swatches double click your swatch and you can change the effects of your pattern, changing the size of the shape, colours how the image is repeated or not.
Tumblr media
You can create these patterns with different shapes like hexagons and edit the swatches colours, sizes and positions the same way like I did with mine above.
Tumblr media
When adding an image like an end page pattern made in Illustrator, InDesign doesn't recognise a swatch pattern. If you have your pattern as a fill swatch you must select the pattern -> Object -> Expand -> okay. This turns the pattern back into objects so when you copy and paste into your InDesign file it is able to be recognised as an image.
Tumblr media
You can move your pages around by simply dragging and dropping their positions in the pages windows, because you have an applied parent page to these with the page number it will automatically recognises which page it is and adjust these numbers.
When I added my Endpapers to pages 2-3 and 10-11 it also added page numbers to the bottoms, this isn't needed and looks scruffy so to fix this I simply dragged the [NONE] parent page onto these pages and it removed the page numbers.

"Back to School Stationery Packs: A Comprehensive Guide for a Successful Academic Year"
As the summer winds down and the excitement of a new academic year approaches, the ritual of shopping for school supplies takes center stage. Among the essentials, the "Back 2 School Stationery Packs" emerges as a convenient and thoughtful solution for parents and students alike. In this guide, we explore the benefits of these pre-assembled packs, what to look for when purchasing, and how they contribute to a smooth start to the school year.
The Convenience of Back to School Stationery Packs:
1. Time-Saving:
Back to school season can be a hectic time for families. Stationery packs save valuable time by eliminating the need to scour stores for individual items.
With a pre-packaged set, parents can check off the entire stationery list in one go, ensuring that students have everything they need for a successful academic term.
2. Cost-Effective:
Purchasing a stationery pack often proves more cost-effective than buying each item separately. Bulk ordering allows for discounts, passing on savings to parents.
This budget-friendly approach is particularly beneficial for families with multiple children, offering a streamlined solution for each student's needs.

Choosing the Right Stationery Pack:
1. Grade-Specific Packs:
Some retailers offer stationery packs tailored to specific grade levels, ensuring that the contents are age-appropriate and meet the requirements of the curriculum.
2. Customization Options:
Look for packs that allow for customization. While the convenience of pre-assembled packs is paramount, the ability to add or remove specific items based on individual preferences can enhance the overall value.
3. Quality Matters:
Consider the quality of the stationery items included. A well-constructed pack with durable supplies ensures that students won't have to deal with mid-year replacements.
Environmental Considerations:
1. Reusable Packaging:
Opt for stationery packs that come in reusable and eco-friendly packaging. Minimizing waste aligns with a growing emphasis on sustainability.
2. Recyclable Materials:
Check if the stationery items themselves are made from recyclable materials. A commitment to eco-conscious choices benefits both the student and the environment.
Conclusion:
Back to school stationery packs are more than just a convenience; they represent a stress-free and organized start to the academic year. As families prepare for the return to classrooms, these thoughtfully curated packs simplify the shopping process, save time and money, and contribute to a positive and prepared mindset for students. 12. No Recess
***credits to the original creator***
1. Pen: Did the ink ever smudge across the paper when you used to write?
I’m sure that happened many times. It would smudge all over my hands all the time.
2. Highlighter: Did you highlight everything or just the super important details?
I rarely highlighted anything, but when I did, only the important details.
3. Pencil: Did you prefer mechanical or regular pencils?
I think regular ones, idk.
4. Markers: Did you prefer to use the fat or skinny markers?
Skinny, maybe.
5. Crayons: How many crayons came in the biggest box that you brought to school?
Oh idk, I don’t remember ever bring crayons to school.
6. Colored Pencils: What’s your favorite color?
Most shades of blue, black, and purple.
7. Erasers: What’s one mistake from the past that you’d like to erase?
I don’t want to erase any particular act, but I would love to have been able to erase my social anxiety in high school. Constant worry about what everyone’s thinking was a nightmare, and looking back on it all now, it just wasn’t worth the stress.
8: Glue: Which is better - stick or liquid bottle, and why?
Liquid bottles always worked better for me.
9. Scissors: Who was the last person you cut out of your life, and why?
A very good friend who was very bad for my mental health, and I don’t think I was good for hers either. We were fighting non-stop, stuck in this weird friends-but-maybe-something-more situation, until I realized it’s stupid and exhausting to continue that way. That being said, cutting her out was one of the more difficult things I’ve done in my life.
10. Notebook: Were you more comfortable using a separate notebook for each subject, or did you use one notebook for multiple different subjects?
I had separate notebooks for each subject until I came to uni. Then it was all in one.
11. Binder: Did you buy plain-colored binders, or ones that had pictures/characters on them?
Definitely with pictures or characters.
12. Folders: What was the one color folder that you were expected to have but could never find in the store?
Uhh, I have no clue, it’s not like anyone ever expected me to have any particular folders.
13. Clipboard: Did your teacher ever require you to use a clipboard as an alternative to your desk’s hard surface?
Nope.
14. Stapler: Have you ever accidentally stapled yourself before?
Lol it sounds like something that would happen to me, but no. Probably because I didn’t use staplers very much.
15. Sharpener: Did you used to like to sharpen pencils (especially colored ones) at both ends?
Oh I definitely did.
16. Hole-Puncher:  Do you prefer the 1-hole punch or the 3-hole punch one?
Tbh, no preference?
17. Sticky Notes: Do you prefer plain yellow Post-Its, or all different colors?
Different colours!
18. Index Cards: Did you study a lot or just try your best on the day of a test?
I studied, I was a pretty good student.
19. Paper Clips: How often during the school day were you unable to hold yourself together? What about school would make you upset?
I just hated my class and the general vibe of high school. And people often said high school days would be the best time of my life, which made me pretty miserable, because, you know, fuck me then. Luckily, that’s 100% not true; uni was around 1000 times better than high school in every possible way.
20. Reinforcements: Who were your friends throughout your years of school?
I had a little group of friends, but I’m friends with only one girl out of the six now. They never felt like real friends to me, and by the time we were seniors, they pretty much excluded me and the other friend from the group. So, when high school ended, I changed my phone number and didn’t bother contacting any of them later on.
21. Dividers: Did you have separate binders for each subject, or use dividers in one large binder?
I didn’t use binders regularly.
22. Supply Box: Do you prefer a supply box or a pencil case? Why?
Pencil case, just because that’s what I used to carry to school.
23. Book Covers: Did you buy the colorful stretchy patterned kind, or cover your books with a brown paper grocery bag?
I only used these very early in elementary school, and I always had the patterned ones.
24. Backpack: Did you ever use a rolling backpack before?
Nope.
25. Lunch Box::What was the best snack to be traded at lunch?
Lol we didn’t actually have lunch at school. Our parents would give us some cash and then we could buy a sandwich from a shop near the school or something else to snack on. We never had a proper cafeteria, and our “lunch time” was only 15-20 minutes.
26: Ruler: How tall are you?
163 cm.
27: Paper: How long is the longest paper you’ve ever had to write?
Idk, I wrote a lot of long papers. My master thesis might have been the longest one, but I can’t look for it now to check how long it was.

[ART DIARY - JULY 2023]
Hello. This is my diary, a personal thing to compile everything and make me remember what I actually need to do before going off on a whim. This is for myself, and unfortunately, I don’t have any better place to make it while still remembering everything, but feel free to read more of it if you want. (But then again, only one person follows me here as of now.)
(Listed in order of Personal Importance and Ability)
Gather the supplies:
You should have, at this point, every single art supply you need to do what you actually want to do. Now just grab all of them and put them into one spot. Just put them on the windowsill for now.

You don’t even have to finish it. You can just at least prove you know the basics of CSS. You have sketches on your drawing program and you also have a template of a test website you made half a year ago. Most of the work is already done for you. Only actually update the site if you do all of these though.
