Friendly reminder as Thunderbolts goes into production that anything coming from "a source at Marvel" essentially the equivalent of saying "source: dude trust me" and Marvel isn't gonna publicize things like character importance lists or how much screentime an actor has or anything else that would risk deterring people from seeing the movie! Scoopers and Insiders make a living by throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks, take anything that's not directly from the director/cast/Marvel themselves with a MASSIVE grain of salt. These are the same insiders who said we were getting X-Men in the WV finale and shit, when y'all get riled up over things they may or may not have made up it just adds fuel to their fire!

Introducing: the Inaugural Bucklena Shipping Week, 2023

So for the uninitiated, I loooove a good shipping week

Last year I thought it would be fun to a shipping week for Stephen Strange and Wanda Maximoff (aka the ScarletStrange Shipping Week), and it wound up being a lot of fun + we have a lot of amazing ScarletStrange content from those ~7 days. This year, to get into the Halloween spirit, I decided to flex my writing muscles on a whim and write a bunch of Bucky x Yelena content (aka Bucklena) inspired by some of my favorite nostalgic "fall" music (and by "fall" I mean these were songs that were included in the vampire classics of my youth, namely the vampire diaries and twilight).

ANYWHO. This shipping week is literally just an open invitation, for anyone reading this - WRITE! Make a moodboard! Alright I’m calling it right now. when the thunderbolts drops next year, all the mcu bucky/Sam/steve stans WILL switch up on John Walker.

I think this because john won’t be “hurting” their favs anymore and them w their negative media literacy will be like “omg another middle aged white man to woobify!!!!”

I’m so excited to be sharing my 300th posted work on Ao3! Bucky is a very observant person, that’s an undeniable fact.

It was an ability he had to develop in the war, during his training as a sniper. Later, it became helpful for the missions Soldat was sent to. No wonder why the world thought of him to be a ghost when he was always five steps ahead of everyone.

This distinctive skill has helped him adapt to different situations, scenarios and jobs he had to handle. It has helped him survive, and in some way, it has brought him to where he is today.

Bucky is very observant, and he’s pretty good at it —while keeping himself aloof of the situation he has to witness. It’s not something he lets show often, of course, and neither is it something he’s exactly proud of, even if in the past the results of it were something that got praised. It feels like spying, but without being in the shadows. Shameless picking up details of different hundreds of people just from how they lace their shoes or how they pronounce the letter s.

Reasons I want Bucky and John to have an arc of becoming friends in the Thunderbolts film:

1. Bucky deserves friends

2. A nuanced story about two war vets coming to an understanding of each other and healing from their respective trauma with each other’s help and support is much more fascinating and necessary than just toxic masculinity dick measuring contest hating on each other for LOLs

3. Sebastian and Wyatt already have a wonderful chemistry

4. Yes I’m still living in my crackpot theory of Bucky and John being related and I will not be convinced otherwise

5. Make the haters mad 😎

So yes, I would hope that the Thunderbolts movie sees the potential that a Bucky and John friendship arc can provide when it comes to developing character depth and nuance. They have two wonderfully amazing actors who can deliver the emotions, let’s not waste their talent on a boring unoriginal rivalry.
