“I confidently called Chlorophyl, the stuff that makes plants green? Yea, in grade 9 science I shot my hand up so fast and called it Chloroform. The face my science teacher made that day will always be hilarious”
i have a horrible feeling that i did something like this too

Today was my last day teaching in student teaching. I'll be in the classroom till the 24th, but tomorrow and Thursday we're watching Hidden Figures in the 6th grade classes and Queen of Katwe in the 7th grade classes (because they've already seen Hidden Figures). And then it's Mid-Winter Break (4 day weekend) and then I finish out next week watching other people teach and all that.
I've survived! I passed all of my Observations first try. I got really good reviews. I learned a lot. And I feel like I'm at a good place to start applying for teaching positions next year!
I have three papers left and I'm mid-writing on paper 3.
The end is in sight! Graduation is soon. I am...almost done.

It's January 5th. 🦉 On this day in 2002, Born Free USA and the Avian Welfare Coalition teamed up to launch America's first annual National Bird Day in celebration of the annual Christmas Bird Count, which runs every December 14th through January 5th. The Christmas Bird Count provides conservationists with important data on the health and numbers of birds across the US. Since 1970, the number of birds across North America has dropped by 29% – a loss of nearly three billion birds. Not very good news.
National Bird Day has thus naturally broadened its mission to include raising awareness of the plight of our remaining living dinosaurs and the need to bring about change in order to improve their environments' and ecosystems' health and sustainability.
Half a million birdwatchers and bird enthusiasts are expected to participate in today's celebration. Festivities will focus on activities that inspire people to appreciate birds more, like education, bird adoption, bird photo contests, etc.
One specific National Bird Day campaign aims to improve the welfare of "pet" birds like parrots, parakeets, and cockatoos by discouraging their purchase as pets, and encouraging support for wild bird habitat conservation programs and captive bird rescue organizations and sanctuaries.
Birds have always held a special place in our hearts, haven't they? Edgar Allan Poe's Raven, Bambi's Friend Owl, Sesame Street's Big Bird, Maya Angelou’s “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings,” the Beatles' Blackbird, Looney Tunes' Roadrunner and Tweety Bird, Harry Potter's Hedwig, the Lion King's Zazu, Aladdin's Iago, Long John Silver's Captain Flint, Walter Lantz's Woody Woodpecker, Peanuts' Woodstock. I could go on and on and on, but I'll let you do that. Enjoy the day! ☮️ Peace… Jamiese of Pixoplanet

The boundaries of Steve and Robin's friendship quickly become all but nonexistent. They can talk to each other about anything, ask each other about anything
And Robin has questions
She's never seen a dick before, has no real intention of seeing one in the future, and finds the concept of them both mysterious and weird. But she can admit to a certain amount of academic curiosity about how they work. And then she remembers that her best friend, Steve, is A Guy™ and could surely answer at least some of her questions
Meanwhile, Steve, due to the aforementioned lack of boundaries, has all but forgotten that he never actually came out to Robin as trans. He's been merrily carrying on just assuming she already knows
These two facts collide one day at Family Video when they're both idly watching some mindless teen movie they've put on for the day while waiting for customers to show up. They reach what seems to be a very contrived skinny dipping scene, which makes Robin think, and she turns to ask Steve, "Hey, do dicks float in water?"
And Steve, without even looking away from the screen, shrugs and asks her, "How the fuck should I know?"
It takes half a minute of silence for him to realize that Robin is staring at him with no small amount of bewilderment and concern
(They later come to the agreement that they'll just have to wait and see if Steve ever gets a boyfriend, and then ask him all their dick-related queries)

The Jedi Order mainly being an institution about teaching makes me sad that we never see more "Jedi classes" outside of the popular ones like martial arts, healthcare and Force wackery.
Alongside basic language and science education etc there have to be at least some trade and college courses on offer, right? The Jedi need a bunch of their own people with law degrees. Proper pedagogy studies for future crèchemasters. Cooks. Managers. All types of engineers. Electricians. Accountants. Researchers. How many Jedi hold a doctorate or professorate? Because I think a large number of them do. Their databanks are filled with millennia of dissertations. You can still find Yoda's articles from 500 years ago and cite them in your history research paper.
The Order just having its own micro-economy going on and every member getting their own regular job education next to all the lightsaber swinging adventures... pls

Study Tips
A person can study anywhere between 15 seconds and 18 hours. However, even though it's possible to study for such long periods of time, it doesn't mean you should.
Studying for such long intervals can be harmful to your body, brain, and eyesight. So, if you still want to study long and hard for more than two or three hours, this is my advice.
1.) Get a good night's sleep.
If you don't get enough sleep in the time before studying, you won't retain much information and it will be harder for you to focus and answer rationally.
2.) Have chewing gum and/or something that smells good.
Chewing gum while you study is a great idea. It improves focus and can even help with study anxiety. It eases your nerves and just all-around makes things easy. As for a good smell: pleasant scents are scientifically proven to be good for your memory. So, if you want to get a great grade, have some essential oils, a candle, or something else that smells good nearby!
3.) Eat.
If you're going to study for long periods of time, make sure to eat when you're hungry. Hunger significantly damages focus and precision in mental prowess. So, make sure you're fed!
3.) Stay hydrated!
Stay hydrated for the very same reasons. Being dehydrated is bad for every part of you, so keep some water nearby!
4.) Have on study music!
Have on a more low-key genre of music for study time if it helps you focus. This isn't for everybody, but it does help me, so maybe you guys will like it too. You have hundreds of study playlist options to choose from on Spotify if you're interested.
5.) Take breaks!
To maintain a healthy mindset, good focus, and all-around the best conditions for studying, take a 5 to 15 minute break every hour to an hour and a half to move around and stretch your muscles, essentially waking up your body and brain so you can keep studying with steady proficiency.
There you go, and good luck!

Welcome to the Bracket of Childhood Books!
Hello! Welcome to the Best Childhood Book bracket, reminiscent of many going around on Tumblr right now, that will decide what this userbase thinks is the best childhood book.
Since we need some clarification, the definition of childhood book in this competition is as follows: a book people read in childhood that must be for a YA age group or younger and has chapters. I developed this definition to keep it as open as possible while making sure picture and adult books were excluded. There are a lot of books that skirt the line between middle grade and young adult, so I figured it best to play it safe and include all YA books, especially for those of us who read at a much higher level. There is a difference between “children’s” book and “childhood” book. ANY book that met those requirements could be submitted, as I am striving to keep my personal opinion out of this competition for the most part. This definition will not change for the foreseeable future.
This masterpost will be updated with links to all the polls regularly, and each poll will last 7 days. If you vote, reblog if you can so more people can vote, and feel free to campaign for your personal favorite if you want!
SUBMISSIONS ARE CLOSED FOR CHILDHOOD BOOKS (320/320)
SUBMISSIONS ARE CLOSED FOR CHILDHOOD WORLDS (192/192)
SUBMISSIONS ARE CLOSED FOR FANTASY BOOKS (320/320)
Please submit with the name of the book and the author. Check the lists to see if anything has been submitted before trying yourself. If a book is part of a series, it will be listed under the series name (i.e. The Lightning Thief > Percy Jackson and the Olympians or The Golden Compass > His Dark Materials). You can find the current list of childhood books here. A world will be listed with its series, and you can find the current list of worlds here. You can find the current list of fantasy books here.
Poll links and rules under the cut
Help decide parameters for submissions with some fringe cases: recently published YA, adult books lots of children/teens read, retelling worlds
First Competition (here)
Second Competition (here)
Third Competition (here)
Fourth Competition (here)
BCW First Competition (here)
Rules/Guidelines
Submissions for Childhood Books
Must be a middle grade or young adult book
Must have chapters
Must be able to be found on Goodreads
Submissions for Childhood Worlds
Must be the setting of a middle grade or young adult book.
Must be either a whole other world (i.e. Narnia, Panem), a setting largely separate from our own world (i.e. Hogwarts, Camp Half-Blood), or a specific setting within our own world that is invented for the purpose of that book (i.e. 221B Baker Street, Ferryport Landing)
Main characters have to have visited this place
Cannot be somewhere that already exists in our world outside that book
Submissions for Fantasy Books
Must be listed as 'fantasy' or some fantasy subgenre within the first three genres on Goodreads or Storygraph
Must be able to be found on Goodreads
Must have chapters but can otherwise be for any age range
Polls
Be respectful (no hate, no harassment, I will block you)
I'm totally okay with spam reblogs; if you want to subject your followers to seventeen copies of a poll, you do you
If you're trying to get my attention about something, @ me or submit an ask, there's no guarantee I'll see all the reblogs
Propaganda
Submit it to me as an ask; I won't be reblogging personal posts or reblogs of the polls
Promote the book you're supporting; it's okay to poke fun at the other books, but please don't attack them or the authors
Only ONE (1) propaganda post per user per book. I really don't want to clog people's dashes with sixty posts about voting for a single book
Asks
Be respectful, not just to me but to all the people who will end up seeing that ask when I post it
If you're asking about a poll or a rule or anything else, please check and see if it's in this post or elsewhere
Try to keep things focused on the competition/books
Competition Hall of Fame
First Competition: Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan
Second Competition: Animorphs by K. A. Applegate
Third Competition: Lockwood & Co. by Jonathan Stroud
Fourth Competition: The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien

As a person with non-primary academic interests I had kinda the opposite experience of most ND people. I spent most of my primary schooling feeling dumb because I wasn't "gifted" then shot to the top of my class when in middle and high school I was allowed to take things I was interested in (Latin and CS).

I've been assigned a host teacher for observation and student teaching! We need to get to know each other and confirm we're good working with each other before everything moves forward, but it's good to know I have somebody assigned.

Saw a post on here about not having to ever do math homework again, and it reminded me of a very specific memory of going to my first day of school in 1st grade. My mom driving up the hill around the corner, and me asking her how long I'd have to be in school. She said I would go five days a week for 12 years, but would get summers off. Felt a lot of dread, like that's my entire childhood you're gonna make me go do this thing I don't want to do??
I remember counting down the weeks and months and years, and finally getting real sick of it around sophomore year of high school. I was bored out of my mind, and hated constantly trying to avoid being bullied after a decade. I ended up skipping most of my classes to wander around town barefoot with various friends who were on free periods.
When I realized I needed to stop doing that to graduate on time, I activated bare minimum mode just to make sure I didn't extend my time in school. Play along long enough to get out.
After public school, I realized I actually DID enjoy learning about history and math and all the other things that I hated, just not in a strict classroom setting surrounded by people who thought I was a freak, taught by an adult who didn't see any value in me! And guess fucking what, I was diagnosed with ADHD in my 30's!!
I did have a few pretty good teachers along the way, to give them credit. But if I had to go back in time to do it again, I would power through it and get out as fast as I possibly could. I hope public school is a little better now than it was then.
