Dead Boy Detectives Ship Names

Alr so there seems to ongoing discussion pertaining to this and I'd like to add my own two cents

Edwin x Charles

So what I've seen online so far is just various mashups of their names in the classic way such as: Chedwin, Payneland/Paynland/Pain(e)land -> What I haven't seen is Charwin or Rowpayne (I do like Payneland apart from the bit where if you say it out loud it sounds like pain land)

I however think it could be cute if they had one of the other types of ship names (e.g. Ineffable husbands, firstprince, wolfstar, frostiron). If it didn't have the potential to get too confusing I would advocate for the ship name 'Dead Boy Detectives or DBD' simply because that is already their shared title (alas that wouldn't really work as it's also the name of the show). Another name I'd like to more seriously put forward is BestMates. It's cringe sure but the way Charles says it in the confession scene. I feel like some name that references them hiding from death or escaping hell together could be really cute too but I can't think of one rn. I don't think they need separate ship names for romantic or platonic since I think trying to box their relationship into a category like that when it is its own thing is unfair.

We all agree that the cat king is called Thomas right? I feel like that seems pretty unanimous so far. Tomwin? Edmas? PayneKing?CatWin? WinKing or KingWin. Ngl KingWin feels right to me cuz the cat king spends most of his time trying to win Edwin over so their shipname also being a nod to their relationship triumphing is kinda fun.

If you're a bellarke shipper, listen. Do y'all remember the constant stories we read that had Monty and Nathan Miller as a couple in the background? I feel like it's a fever dream now when I read bellarke fics because now it's harper and Monty, and yeah cute. Didn't expect it at all, but whatever, but I had been so hopeful for them two especially when they were in Mount Weather. Like how tf. I have to read the old stories that I have bookmarked to remind myself that the ship was popular af especially in bellarke fics, and now none what so ever. At least not the ones I find.

It all started that day.

You were a liaison for the planet Earth- a representative for the human race after the dissolution of the Decepticons, in an effort to reconnect and stay on good terms.

When Rodimus introduced you to the rest of the ship, Ultra Magnus didn’t think very much of it. It was just another crew member to take care of, and he’d do his utmost to accommodate the ship for your needs as an organic.

Thankfully, you weren’t the rowdiest human around. You were reserved and mostly kept to yourself, only ever getting into trouble by the hands of one of the many troublemakers aboard the ship.

As you were a liaison, you often had to sort through documents with the ship captains and relay communications you received from earth, and vice versa. Seeing you quickly become overwhelmed with the workload, the SIC offered to assist you in preparing your reviews before your meetings, and to his pleasant surprise, you agreed.

Your days were often spent in his office, where he went over legal technicalities and loopholes within Cybertronian law. Where his nitpicking was usually met with groans- with you, it was met with wide eyes and intent listening. And after a while, your sincerity wormed its way into the commander’s spark- and feelings he couldn’t shake off soon took root.

Soon enough, these meetings became standard practice- a welcome addition to the commander’s packed schedule. He always knew when to expect you and to dedicate time to you, and when to focus his attention on other things.

Except for the day you stopped by off-schedule.

Carrying a datapad within your arms- as best as you could with the Cybertronian scaling- you read through the document onscreen as you made your way over to Magnus’ office. You had taken notes on the commander’s lessons, sure, but the legal jargon in this piece stumped you- and you weren’t sure if it was an issue from being translated from Cybertronian, or really something you were missing. Surely Magnus could take a moment out of his schedule to clarify for you, couldn’t he? Even if he couldn’t, he would at least make note of it to discuss in the next meeting before you forgot.

“Excuse me, Commander Magnus, sir?” You called, standing before the closed sliding door. A human was too small for the motion sensors to pick up on their own, as you were made painfully aware of every time Whirl decided to point it out, so you waved the datapad in the air to see if that would register.

“I had some- urgh- quick questions about this document— aha!” With a proud exclamation, you seem to wave to just the right spot within the motion sensor, and the metal door slides open with the satisfying sounds of the ship’s hydraulics. “Ah, anyway, yeah— I was wondering what section 7 meant by—“

Your expression falters in an instant as you finally take a look inside the office. At the far end of the room, you lock eyes with a small, green bot completely unfamiliar to you- standing before what appeared to be a powered-down Ultra Magnus. His mustachioed faceplate was twisted in horror, and he froze in his place just as you did.

“…Ultra Magnus…?”

Your words are met with no reply as the motion sensors of the door shut off as quickly as they had turned on— the door to the office sliding shut with a metallic thud. Dropping the datapad, you knock a couple of times, hoping either Magnus or that other bot would come over and answer. But after a few minutes of standing and knocking, you’re answered with silence, and you resolve to ask about it when your next meeting with the commander came along.

While the Magnus Armor stood slumped against the far wall of the room, Minimus Ambus stood with his spinal strut pressed frantically against the door- chassis heaving up and down as his vents output air at a rate he wasn’t used to.

He had never intended for you to see him like this.

Well, he wanted to tell you, eventually. But eventually meant after he got to know you more. After he knew you were a human you could trust that information with— after he knew for absolute certain that you wouldn’t lose any and all respect or trust in him the instant you laid eyes on him.

This wasn’t according to plan.

His feelings for you weren’t according to plan.

But, here he was, his spark spinning rapidly in its chamber— thinking he might die if even one interaction with you went wrong. And, in his optics, this interaction very much did.

Solar cycles passed, and the commander anticipated the day of your and his next meeting with dread. What were you going to say? Were you ever going to look at him the same way again? Were you even going to show up?

The final question was at least answered by the sight of you standing in front Magnus’ door, perfectly on schedule, datapad in hand. Ex-venting to himself one final time, Magnus composes himself and approaches you.

As per routine, he offers his massive servo down to you after your greetings, and you step on without hesitation. The door to his office slides open, and the commander makes his way to the desk at the very back- placing you gently upon the surface. He removes his own set of datapads from a nearby shelf and sets them down to begin, and yet…

The commander can’t bring himself to speak.

The tension in the room hung heavy to you both, apparently, as you weren’t sure what to say either. You cast your gaze down, as does Magnus, and the two of you sit in silence for one, agonizingly long minute.

“…about what happened a few days ago—“

When you look up, you lock eyes with the commander, and both of your mouths are agape as you realize you both had spoken the very same words at the very same time. While both of you are left stammering for a minute, Magnus gathers his bearings first, and speaks. “No, no, you go ahead,” he insists.

You look at him with furrowed brows, but clear your throat as you try to think of just what to say.

All the while, Ultra Magnus couldn’t shake the terrible feeling wrapping itself around his spark. The commander recalled the days after his secret was first revealed to the Lost Light’s crew- how he was first met with humiliation. He had grown to depend on the stability of your and his relationship, despite the feelings that he refused to admit were growing within him, and he would hate it if this one thing tore it all apart.

“That day… who was that?”

But, rather than ridicule, Magnus is instead met with your genuine curiosity.

Cycles of the meeting go by, and the commander recounts to you the tale of the Magnus Armor and the Tyrest Accord, and how he became its enforcer. As you asked more questions, he went on to explain that he was truly another mech entirely— and how he regretted not telling you sooner. And as he finishes, you find yourself with one final question.

“Would it be possible for me to see you like that again? As truly yourself?”

The very thought makes Magnus’- or Minimus’- spark run wild. Every part of his processor was telling him no— to politely decline, to keep his and your relationship just as it was, and he didn’t need to expose any part of himself further than he had already.

But as he gazed into your comparatively little eyes, the commander could sense no ill intent behind them. In fact, he saw that very sincerity he had fallen for so long ago.

And so, he agreed.

Standing from his seat behind the desk, Ultra Magnus’ blue optics flicker to black, and steam erupts from the seams between his paneling. The panels on his midsection open with a hiss, and you’re taken aback when a green servo emerges from the opening.

Out from the smoking depths of the Magnus Armor steps Minimus Ambus. While in his layer of protective armor he wasn’t his truest size, he was still the mustachioed bot you had only caught a glimpse of days before.

The desk’s top being level with his face rather than his hips now, the mech cautiously approached the edge- like if he got too close, you’d run off.

But you didn’t. Instead, you approach him, gazing at the minibot with wonder. “So… this is the real you?” You ask, despite already knowing the answer.

The minibot resets his vocalizer. “Yes. It is.”

Every possible outcome was racing through Minimus’ processor- and coincidentally, every outcome ended the same. With you politely rejecting his presence, and him tucking away his own feelings as he always had.

“Why do you ask?” he dares to ask, and never before had he wished to take a sentence back faster. “Does this… change things?”

“Hmm… a little.” You ponder his words for a minute, stepping up to the very edge of the desk. Minimus pulls back just a bit, terrified of the fact that he didn’t know what you were going to do next—

But you simply stand on the tips of your toes, and peck a kiss on his steel cheek.

“Just makes it easier to do that.”

And while mechs couldn’t blush, you’re pretty sure that if they could, Minimus’ faceplate would burn as pink as the very energon that ran through his systems.

A scene from one old.... (Is 2010 considered old?) Movie that I really like... I tried to translate it as close as possible.

I just wanted some shenanigans with Drakken, Fist, Duff and Eddy. And rtod increased significantly my love for those great bums. So ships from it were included ^^” with some absolutely non canon spin to fit the movie a bit ^^”” so apologizes.

Its also a long one.

Drakken, Eddy, Monkey Fist and Duff Killigan decided to combine their efforts (again) and went to get something for their scheme. What it is exactly isn't important, but they took Drakken's hovercar. Shego didn't to join them. I guess, she couldn't handle collective level of buffoonery and antics of those 4 and stayed home at the lair.

At some point, the hover car broke down and they landed somewhere in a distant field. Drakken started fixing it and shooing away Eddy who .... Attempted to help. Duff and Monty had a smoke break.

Weather was sunny and warm. So bored to bits, boys started talking. From general complaining about team Possible, Global Justice, other villains... And then Monty had to call Amy... After many attempts and total frustration of her not picking up the phone... This is what happened.

Monkey Fist: Curses, pick up the damn phone already!!!

Duff Killigan: hey hey, calm ye down! Don't worry, yer lass probably with the beasts.

Monkey Fist: What does that have to do with anything? *inhale* It’s just that she doesn’t have a phone, so I can contact her. She just has it in her purse, ringing, so she wouldn’t hear it.

Duff : She'll call ye back in a moment.

Monkey fist: ha, yes of course, she "will" call me back!

I call her again in two hours, she will pick it up. I say “I've been calling 10 times already” And she'll go, "Yes, yes, I saw it😃"....... Is that normal?

Eddy stopped pestering his cousin and joined in to the convo, and Duff then started to tell about his own plight.

Duff: I riddle ye with this, my lass came up once, asked me a question, I see it's very important to her..... started to answer, and suddenly I realize poof she is gone. She only cared about asking the question, but not getting the answer. The hell was this?

Then Eddy started to talk: And why, in a restaurant, Cleo just never likes what she ordered, and always likes what I ordered, and then, seriously, she starts stealing from my plate. I tell her "Seriously, order the same thing for yourself," and she says (he used high pitched voice in attempt of poor imitation of Cleopatra) "Why, I just wanna try." And then eats half of it.

Duff: Seriously, ye wanted this specific amount of beef and fries.

Eddy: Exactly! And I'm not even stingy! I just hate when someone eats from my plate. It's MY food, seriously.

Then Drakken came to their gossip group, taking a break from getting toasted under the hood of hovercar. He heard everything other 3 were talking about and was ready with his own Shego related story.

Drakken: And why is it that when she asks me a question from another room, you know from waaaaay from another part of the lair, "abu-boo-boo-boo... GREEN SLIPPERS!?" I ask: "What?" She yells, "GREEN SLIPPERS!" Why is she repeating exactly what I heard?! Always the last two words I hear. How does she do that, huh?

Mr Green/Wadsworth: The inherent homoeroticism of throwing a man to the floor... Being annoying... Both r clearly gay anyway... I think they have hooked up and are denying feelings tbh

Susan/Peggy: Every day I'm furious that Susan doesn't get to go to heaven because she discovered lipstick and nylons. FUCK C.S. Lewis for that for real. She lived an adult life with more agency and personhood than she could possibly access in a lifetime England when she returned from Narnia and was told she could never go back to Narnia—so why is she punished for trying to make the most of her life?!

I've seen the take that "busy chasing lipstick and nylons" doesn't mean she's more interested in fashion than in lion jesus, it means she was attracted to women, and yknow, that just makes things worse.

I saw season 1 of Agemt Carter, I read the Peggy/Angie vibes, and I'm a multishipper at heart. Susan crossing paths with Peggy Carter is SO plausable and it's one of the few ways I could see her finding a happy and fulfilling life moving forward! And god does she ever deserve better than she gets in canon.

Rochi: there are literally 19 fics for this ship, all but 3 written by the same person, and the characters have never even been mentioned in the same sentence, let alone met. neither of them have any lines, we don't know what one looks like and we only know he exists because of like 2 fact files you can find scattered around the game. but holy shit if the dynamic ive deluded myself into thinking they have isnt DELECTABLE

As per rutine for the past several month, the group of musicians signed with Arkadia Music's made their way into the hall of the hotel as they each finished their own interviews, every room on this floor was reserved for their pre-concert activities, and soon they would be leaving to the venue.

"That was fun" Octavia smirked as the got closer and in position for their team to lead them to the next room where they were holding a press conference.

"You didn't need to be that rude, y'know?" Her band mate said with a meaningless eye roll.

"Oh please, Clarke" Octavia groaned as she turned back to her best friend "he wasn't even a good guy, he wanted dirt yet was too stupid to find a way to create it, I did us both a favor"

"I wish you could've played rude in my interview" the green-eyed singer sighed from behind the duo as their team instructed them to start moving. Clarke turned to pout sympathicaly at her girlfriend, but resisted the urge to reach out to grab her hand, knowing there were people with cameras, looking for gossip behind every door.

"Ugh yeah, what's the point of doing this together if Woods and i have to do half of it alone" Murphy said walking beside Lexa "besides the interviewer was all flirt and no bussiness, i swear there was not a single question about music... no, yeah there was one "was Bruised Knee about sex?"" Murphy rolled his eyes.

"If you have to ask..." Octavia called immediately

"It's definitely not" the group responded in unison.

"If you haven't question it..."

"It probably is!" The chanted their little mantra with laugher as they stopped before a door.

"I mean, i don't see it so unfair, though... you chose a solo career" Octavia mentioned staring an argument with Murphy that had everybody joining in. Eventually, as their tour manager's assistant told them to go in, it was Murphy and Octavia bickering at each other while the group finished their talk over it.

Before the door started to open, while Monty was finishing a question for Clarke, Lexa spoke lowly "can i get a kiss?"

The door moved open and Clarke turned to pout at Lexa, after catching her question too late for been answering Monty's question "im sorry" she whispered as they all moved into the room.

"It's okay" Lexa mouthed once Clarke turned to look at her again, she only pouted harder before turning to face the press with a smile on her face.

They greet everyone as they all took their seats and the questions started. As the conference went on, the couple leaned to look at each other from across the table often, trying to make it as subtle as posible and most likely failing miserably. Clarke kept pouting and wishing she could've heard her girlfriend earlier and complaid in kind. After all, it wasn't all that often that the famous pop start, too damage from previous homofobic management, scared of the repercussions her previous contracts might still had over her public image, and straight to the public eye, asked, fearlessly and worryless, for any display of affection in public -or at work, for that matter-

Half through the conference, as Jasper was answering a question -or something completely off topic to the question asked at him- Clarke leaned her chin on her right hand, absently looking down at her wrist where four of her tattoos laid. Unwillingly to her, one of her eyebrows lifted slightly as she felt a light-bulb light-up over her head. She held a smirk as she turn slightly to look at Lexa, as expected, her girlfriend was already looking at her, so while maintaining eye contact, Clarke leaned down and softly kissed the head of her minimalist racoon tattoo that matched Lexa lion.

Lexa resists the need to roll her eyes and equally intense need to smile at her girlfriend, she licks her lips as she looks away and around the room, with a smirk of her own she looks down at her own wrist and up at Clarke, lifting her arm she scratches behind her ear before leaning on her hand with her elbow on the table, looking around one more time she leans to kiss the lion on her wrist while looking at Clarke. The couple smile at each other before looking away and inevitably staring to blush like teenagers. They both lower their hand and after a second of consideration, move them under the table as they lay back on their chairs. This very moment, would be considered by their fan as one of the biggest "mirroring" proofs of their time. -and they would be proud of it-

I never got too deep into the tv series and honestly didn't even know it had a book adaptation but were there any big differences between them?

so many. to be fair to the show — with all the grace i'm willing to give jason rothenberg lmao — the show & the first book were developed at the same time from the same base concept kass had come up with for it.

that being said, here are some differences!

ㅤㅤㅤ•ㅤthe time between the nuclear apocalypse — called the cataclysm in the book — and the beginning of the story is 97 years in the show and 300 years in the books.

ㅤㅤㅤ•ㅤthe ark is referred to as the colony, and consists of three major “ships” (phoenix, arcadia & walden), rather than the 12 or so stations (medical, earth monitoring, agro, alpha, arrow, factory, hydra, mecha, prison, tesla, flint & orchid) on the ark.

ㅤㅤㅤ•ㅤin terms of comparability, phoenix & alpha seem to be the most “rich” of the stations / ships, and arcadia & walden being comparable to factory or mecha in terms of being the working class stations.

ㅤㅤㅤ•ㅤthe colony itself has a far more in depth look into the classism on it’s ships, with phoenix being the “upper class” ship where people can have a better life through their status and wealth, vs arcadia & walden being more “working class” where people struggle to get by and a lot of the ships resources are not allocated properly. there is also a law divide between the ships, as those on walden or arcadia are not allowed to travel between the ships to phoenix without permission, and doing so could result in punishment.

ㅤㅤㅤ•ㅤin the show, clarke & bellamy are the two main leads; in the books, there are four pov characters, with wells being one and another being glass sorenson, who isn’t in the show and doesn’t have any composite character there.

ㅤㅤㅤ•ㅤthere are no grounders in the books; instead the people found on the ground when the delinquents land are a rebellious offshoot of the main group known as the earthborn. however they are more equivalent to a “good” version of the mountain men; as their ancestors survived in the mountain bunker before leaving it 50 years before the books start. they are led by max walgrove.

ㅤㅤㅤ•ㅤas such, there are no grounders from the shows in the books. other characters from the show’s main group that don’t exist in the books : raven reyes, finn collins, john murphy, marcus kane, monty green, jasper jordan, harper mcintyre, eric jackson, nathan miller, etc etc.

ㅤㅤㅤ•ㅤlincoln also does not exist in the books but there is a character similar to him in concept — a person from earth falling in love with a sky person & being rebellious against their people — in max's daughter, sasha walgrove.

ㅤㅤㅤ•ㅤraven reyes also has a character similar to her in luke, glass's boyfriend. both are engineers who struggle to keep their loved one alive & suffer a leg injury some time into the show / book.

ㅤㅤㅤ•ㅤvarious name changes from show to book are: ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ•ㅤaurora blake is melinda blake. ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ•ㅤabby griffin is mary griffin. ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ•ㅤjake griffin is david griffin.

ㅤㅤㅤ•ㅤthe colony’s law follows the gaia doctrine, the ark follows the exodus charter.

ㅤㅤㅤ•ㅤthe skyboxis referred to as confinement or the detention center.

ㅤㅤㅤ•ㅤthe nuclear apocalypse (praimfaya or apocalypse one) is referred to as the cataclysm or the exodus.

ㅤㅤㅤ•ㅤthere’s no name for the tree in the show, but in the books, it’s referred to as the eden tree & it is set on fire by wells' in order to get himself sent down to earth.

ㅤㅤㅤ•ㅤoctavia is 16 in the show & 14 in the books. bellamy is 23 in the show & 20 in the books.

ㅤㅤㅤ•ㅤwhile clarke & bellamy are confirmed bisexual by the show & actors, it is unknown if kass intended for them to be bisexual in the books also. however, octavia is confirmed bisexual or mspec, as she has been shown to have crushes on wells & graham, & kissed a girl named anna.

SPOILER TERRITORY BELOW.

ㅤㅤㅤ•ㅤbellamy is wells' half brother, with wells’ father, chancellor jaha, who had slept with melinda blake before getting into a relationship with wells’ mother. as there are no described races in the books, the ethnicities of the boys & their parents are unknown. this did not carry over into the show, as bellamy is played by the half filipino, half white actor bob morley, & wells is played by the black actor eli goree.

ㅤㅤㅤ•ㅤbellamy & clarke are a confirmed couple in the books, having gotten engaged in the last book, rebellion.

ㅤㅤㅤ•ㅤmary & david griffin are revealed to be alive in homecoming, surviving unlike their counterparts in the show: jake (who died before the show started via being floated) & abby (who was murdered by russell lightbourne.)

this was a very long post & there are probably other differences but i'm in the process of rereading the books now so i'll reblog this with any others i find if i do!

How many Monty X Bonnie shippers are out there? I feel like this ship has the most delicious angst potential.

This includes dudes like me who do a big poly ship with them and Freddy and Roxanne etc.

I suppose you could also make them close buddies. Like they have sweet moments together that Monty thinks about a lot.

What if he sees a bowling ball and he just has to throw it around and knock things over because it’s the only way to release all that negative built up energy that tangles up in his mind? That’s what he used to do with Bonnie. He can’t bare to go there, much like Freddy so he improvises in his green room. Then the staff take that bowling ball and change him into something he’s not and now all he has to release the anger is these new, things they put on his hands? It’s not as satisfying…There’s still so many tangles. So many negative thoughts…

Summary: The reader meets Monty while he's working on removing the wristbands

I walked over to the drop ship for some space away from the people. I climbed through the hatch and went up to the top floor. After closing the hatch I was able to hear nothing from the outside, it was dead silent. "You're not gonna be loud are you?" I let out a short scream as I heard a voice. I turned around to a guy doing something with one of the wristbands.

"No, I just wanted to get away from everyone." I began walking over to him to see what he was doing.

"Oh. Sorry I ruined that for you."

"No, no. Its fine. If you don't mind me staying, that is."

"Go ahead, I'm Monty."

"So, Monty. What exactly did you get locked up for?" Monty had explained to me that through the wristbands he was trying to communicate with the people up on the Ark. I was fascinated with how well he was with this kind of stuff and as he spoke, I couldn't help but be intrigued, even if I didn't know what he was saying half the time.

"I may have forgot to replace the herbs Jasper and I stole."

"Oh, you're a thief. I better hide my stuff from you then." I said jokingly. He laughed a long with me as he worked on the band on his wrist. Suddenly the wrist band popped off and Monty let out a cry of pain. "Are you okay?" I reached for his arm so I could have a look. Dots of blood formed in the spot where the band had been.

"Shoot!" Monty picked up the broken band and had a look at it. "It's fried." He bowed his head in shame as he let the useless scrap of metal.

"I'm sorry, Monty. I would let you use mine and all, but its just I have my parents up there and I don't want them to think-"

"No, its okay. I wouldn't ask you to do that for me." He sent me a reassuring smile when suddenly we were interrupted by the hatch opening. We both turned around to see Octavia Blake climbing up followed along with a boy. It wasn't long before the boy was pulled down the ladder and replaced by another one.

They talked for a short moment before the boy locked Octavia up top with us. It seemed she hadn't yet noticed us as she spat harsh words at the boy. "You wanna keep it down?" Octavia spun around as she finally noticed our presence. She walked over to us and sat down beside me. "You mind if I use your wristband to contact the Ark?"

"Go ahead." Monty and Octavia start up a conversation about Jasper.

"I take it you and Jasper are like brothers?" I but in to the conversation.

"He may not be my real brother, but he's always been there. Every memory I have, there's Jasper. I should be out."

"I understand you want to help Jasper, but you are very important for all of us. We need you here more than anyone." I replied to Monty. He looks over at me before looking back at the ground.

"You're not gonna cry, are you?"

"Shut up." Monty appears to have tears welling in his eyes but he shakes it off with a laugh before switching the conversation.

"You sure about this? You're brother wouldn't approve of you helping us contact the Ark."

"He's not my keeper. Lets just do this."

Once again we are left with another dead wristband and Octavia leaves with the boy from before, something tells me that what she is doing wouldn't make her brother happy. "I wish I had someone as close as Jasper and you are." I sigh. I never really had any close friends up on the Ark, yeah I spoke to people, but not enough that I would consider them important. "No one really wanted to get close with me. I usually just scared them off."

"Well, if it makes you feel any better, I'd love to get to know you."

"That'd be nice."
