Can I request Bokuto, Tendou, Kyotani, Aran, Goshiki, Asahi, and Aone with a very sweet gf? She’s very affectionate (cuddles them, kisses their face, and rubs their head) and always happy to see them after school or watch their practices and will even call them cute nicknames like “Sweetie, Darling, My love, Honey, and Bub”. BOKUTO shares the same energy! it started off as you calling him ‘my love.’ he burst into a blushing fit, and since then, you two have been exchanging nicknames— which got longer each time. it went from ‘bub’ to ‘honey-sugar-pumpkin-pie-precious-sparkling y/n!’ akaashi begs you to help him with bokuto’s emo mode. cup his face with both of your hands and he’s melting into your arms.

when you made him a bento, he actually jumped up and down in joy. he was happily humming as you fed him it, repeating lines of ‘i love you’s and “you’re my favorite, y/n-bear!” when he realized that he had finished the whole bento already, he went into emo mode. instantly cheered up when you said you would make another!

TENDOU feels so happy when you started coming to watch all of his practices. he feels even happier when you’ll sing along with him, arm movements and all that! you guys have already created a minimum of four secret handshakes. he feels all giddy inside when you help him tape his fingers, or when you go over to give him some hugs and kisses. sometimes he’ll ask you what you see in him, then tears up when you actually respond and give a lengthy list of the things you love about him— which is everything.

when you came after practice to give him a homemade bento, he hesitated when he reached for it. you were just so perfect, so sweet, and he wasn’t even sure where to start thanking you. he didn’t even have time to act insecure since you wrapped him in a tight hug immediately after handing him the bento.

KYOTANI is always soft around you! he never complains about any of things you do, he’ll stand still and let you pat his head. he’ll even move his arm out a little so you can hold his hand! kyotani visibly relaxes when you’re near him, and he’ll try extra hard during practice just so he can earn another hug, or maybe even a cuddle session if he’s lucky.

when you first made him a bento, he just stood there looking at it. you felt a little insecure, thinking that he wouldn’t like it, but it was actually because he had never received something like it before! he told you how he felt later, but he was so grateful to have someone like you. he would never refuse any of your sweet gestures. and yeah, he would appreciate it if you made him another.

ARAN waits in front of the gym before practice so you can see him before you leave. he gently smiles when he hears you ramble about how good your luck is, how lucky you were to ‘catch him right before he walked into practice!’ he won’t ever tell you that he does it on purpose, but he thinks the way you get excited to see him is cute. he’ll always return your hugs, pats, and touches with a smile.

if you make a bento for aran, he’s gonna eat it right beside you and compliment every part of it! he’ll even offer to make one with you, and turn that into a date.

GOSHIKI is always a little too shocked at your gestures! since he’s surrounded by “cold and unreadable senpai,” having such an affectionate s/o is overwhelming, in the best way possible. you inflate his ego with your rush of compliments, and he feels his cheeks heat up when you give him a kiss and hug bye! when he’s losing confidence in his abilities as a player, he forgets all of those feelings as soon as he sees you. the names you call him have him breaking out in a furious blush every single time, but what would be the point if he didn’t? his reactions are the cutest.

he was so incredibly shocked when he saw you standing in front of him with a bento. he blinked a couple times, rubbing his eye, then it hit him. you MADE him lunch. he couldn’t hold back the stammered ‘thank you’s and the nervous waving of his hands while he stuttered out a “y-you didn’t have to!!”

ASAHI is always so flustered around you! he loves your energy, but it’s also so overwhelming for him. he wouldn’t trade it for anything though. even if he jumps each time, he loves when you run up and give him a hug from behind, calling him your ‘precious sweetie!’ he tried to return the favor by calling you something cute, but just ending up standing still & looking real scary in front of the others. you appreciate the thought!

if you give him a homemade bento, he’s looking at it with the purest expression, gently taking it from you with a mumbled thanks. if you feed him, he’s avoiding all eye contact, staring intently at the floor instead. by the time he’s done, he’s already mustered up the courage to ask you for another!

AONE is always prepared for your affection. he’ll walk up to you and wait for you to do something. if you squish his cheeks, he’ll squish your cheeks right back. so, you two exchange little actions like this throughout the day!

if you give him a bento, you might miss the little sparkle in his eye as he accepts it. he makes sure to eat it when no one else is around because he doesn’t want anyone to ruin the moment.

you and HIMEKAWA exchange positive energy! if he’s nervous for a serve, he takes one glance over at you. he’s learned that yamaguchi has an item he looks at so he can reset, and you’re himekawa’s reset view! you’re his safe space, and he can never thank you enough times. himekawa returns your hugs and affection with a blush, but the same amount of energy!

if you make him a bento, he’ll want to eat it with you! don’t misunderstand, he loves it so much, but he wants to share this memory with you. will turn bright red if you offer to feed him.

Request by @ateliefloresdaprimavera : Fez has a special place in my heart 😍I'd like to request an imagine where yn is his gf and they have been together since kids. she's a nurse and his rock. she loves Ash like a brother and he feels the same. when Rue and her friends met her from the first time they're amazed by how different she is to Fez, but they complement each other and are just super sweet♥️ what do you think?

The color yellow was always an everlasting treasure between you and your beloved, Fezco. In the first grade when you met him, you had on an adorable yellow dress with white frills and bumblebees scattered across the front and back. And your beautiful luscious hair has been pulled into two pigtail braids with yellow scrunchies securing it at the base. Your mother, Lydia, always had a habit of making you look as sweet as honey for all the others to follow, especially when you were new. You had moved a total of 27 times but this time, like she always says, “We are here to stay for good Y/N! Isn’t it exciting?!” But it was never exciting. It had been all the same of towns with cardboard shape houses and buildings and people being so fragile and stuck together like paper dolls.

Except for him.

He had on a red t-shirt which complimented his sea glass blue eyes and his curly ginger hair. He wore horned rim glasses which he took off to wipe the dirt off his lenses to get a crystal clear view of you.

You were the object of his attention as he played kickball and ran across the field to the farthest base just to look at you from afar. “Mysterious...mysterious angel.” he thought to himself as he watched you giggle while two caterpillars crawled on your dress and you set a leaf for them to eat in your lap. He smiled at your laughter revealing his gapped teeth. Just as you looked up to watch the game, Fez blushed bright red and waved at you shyly. You squinted your eyes to see what exactly it was he was doing and smiled, waving back slowly. Confidence arose inside of him and he smiled all goofy to himself.

“Sweet” you thought to yourself, giggling as well. All was well until the cherry red kickball flew and met Fez’s face, giving his mouth a very unwanted and painful kiss. Everyone laughed as he fell to the grown but you quickly got up, removed the caterpillars from your dress and ran over to him. His glasses made a scar on his nose that was bleeding and his mouth leaked out blood.

Naturally you came and sat down on the grass next to him and removed his glasses gently. Taking a napkin from your dress pocket, you dabbed his mouth, wiping away the blood from his mouth. His beautiful blue eyes snapped open and looked at you. He eased into your touch, wincing as you wiped away at a cut.

“Are you okay?” you asked in a sweet voice. If Fez could replay how your words sounded in his head, he’d listen to it all day if he could.

“Uh yeah...yeah I’m...I’m fine...McDaniel's has always had it out for me,” he said slowly, sitting up and rubbing his head. You giggled softly at the bruise forming on his face and stood up, holding out your hand.

Gingerly, he took it and you led him to the swing set where you could properly look at his face.

“Are you feeling dizzy? Sleepy? Confused?” you said while looking into his eyes and wiping his mouth completely free of blood. “Should we go to the nurse?”

He just looked in a daze at you, taking every detail in. The way your smile looked, how your voice had the perfect amounts of care and concern, and especially the way your Y/H/C hair shined in the sun.

“Yes....No...wait I’m okay! I promise! I’m great!” He said, flashing his most dazzling pearly white smile at you.

Your face dropped immediately with concern.

“What?” he said, confused and a bit nervous of rejection. “Had some broccoli been left on my teeth from the Alfredo grandma made?” he thought to himself.

“ Uhhhh...were you missing a tooth before?” you said hesitantly, ogling at his bloody mouth and the freshly formed space from his right tooth. Fez’s heart dropped to his stomach as he felt around in his mouth at the new space in his mouth. His eyes watered and he panicked.

“No! Oh no I think I swallowed it!” he said with fear in his voice and he covered his face with both hands, crying softly.

You squatted in front of him and touched his arm, caressing it softly. “Hey...hey it's okay! It's perfectly normal for us to lose teeth, I pinky promise! See look at mine!” You smiled really hard showing that your bottom tooth on the right had been missing.

His watery ocean eyes crinkled as he laughed with you about teeth. You wiped his eyes away. “I’m Y/N....I’m new here,” you said shyly.

He smiled up at you and stood up holding out his hand. “I’m Fezco but people just call me Fez around here,” he said confidently.

At the end of the day he held your books and walked you home discussing cartoons and homework.At nap time Fez dreamed of being married to you and creating a family...but that would be so long. It was only first grade.

That sweet little sensitive boy you knew and loved from first sight there on that playground was yours since that day and yours only...except for that one time in sixth grade. It was the spring fling dance. You and Fez danced all night. He loved the way that your blush pink dress complimented the daisies your mother stuck into your bun. His white button down shirt, black bow tie, black slacks, and shining black shoes cost a fortune. His mom had been out of work for some time and hadn’t been home in days. Thank god his grandma was willing to take him to the store and buy him all that he needed so that he could impress you.

Much like middle school, the Spring Fling dance had been filled with drama, tears, and laughter. This was the night Fez was going to finally tell you how he felt about you...how he wanted you to be his girlfriend. But some outlying factors seemed to corrupt his plans.

“Gee it's hot in here! I’ll be right back, I’m gonna go to the restroom!” you said to Fez over the loud music. He nodded and smiled at you and went over to the punch bowl, pouring you a cup, instinctively knowing that right after you used the bathroom you wanted to drink something cold or have something cold to hold. He smiled at himself thinking about how excited he would be to finally call you his and get all the other creeps away from you. A tap on his shoulder awoke Fez from his thoughts of you.

Tammy Martin, the snob and queen bee of sixth grade flashed a smile at him. “Hey Fezzy!” she said with a high pitched tone. He cringed subtly “Hey Tammy...what’s up?” he said slowly.

“Nothing...just...I really like you Fezco! So I’m gonna...I’m gonna kiss you!!!” she said nervously. “Wait wha-”

Tammy pressed her bubble gum pink lips to Fezcos without warning. His eyes widened in shock and pure horror as he a) had no feelings for Tammy whatsoever and b) saw your smiling face approaching him and the way it dropped shattered his heart into a million pieces.

Fez pulled away quickly with embarrassment and disgust. “Tammy! I’m not interested in you...sorry. I gotta go!”

As you sobbed on the staircase outside of the school, the sunlight set the scene. It was so romantic yet you were so heartbroken.

“Y/N I am so sorry...she came onto me, I would never-”

“No! It's fine Fez. You want her, take her! It's completely fine! I-”

“Y/N STOP! I do NOT like Tammy.” he visibly shuddered and sat next to you, wiping the tears off of your face.He held both of your hands and looked deep into your eyes.

“Y/N....I...I’m in love with you. The way you talk...the way you smile...the way you are just here with me through the messed up shit my life is in. I love you and I have loved you since the day I laid my eyes on you.” He said fearful of rejection and wholeheartedly.

Tears threatened to spill out of your eyes at that moment and you kissed him. You kissed him with the passion of a million suns. Fireworks exploded within you and him. He held you close to him and kissed back.

As you now look outside of the window at the hospital where you work, seeing so many people going by that were once rude or bullies before, you laughed to yourself. none of them could ever say that they had the pleasure of being with their lover since elementary school.

Tired as always when you made your way back to the quiet and quaint suburban home that you and Fezco now share, you found the tranquility of love and being with Fez.

The boy that once sold so much crack and LSD to highschoolers had saved up his money properly and invested in different things that wouldn’t bring damage to the ones he loves.

You and him finally made a nest in the suburban home that you two envied growing up with the difficult situations. As you opened up the white door to your loving home, the scent of apple pie, your favorite, was wafting through the air. It was suspicious however, seeing as all the lights are off and-

“SURPRISE!!!!”

Behind the grey curtains was Fez with the sweet goofy smile on his face. He was laughing especially hard due to the reaction of you jumping like a cat in the air.

“Fez! Stopppp!” you said pouting at him and flopping onto the sofa. He kissed your forehead and pulled off your black crocs from your feet. “You’re home late” he murmured as he gently massaged your foot and kissed your leg.

The Fezco that everyone knew was slow speaking, in a daze, and willing to protect what's his- whether it be you, Rue, Ash, and his family. The Fezco before you however was not as furocious and masculine. He softened for you. This was the Fez that came knocking on your window at 2 AM breathing heavily and in tears from his Mother attempting to kill him in an unsettled state from all the heroin she had been taking. This was the Fez who held you so tight at night and with any sudden sound he would awaken and grab his gun willing to do anything to protect you. This was the Fez who surprised you at work with roses and daisies sitting at your counter or would leave a gift wrapped in the prettiest wrapping paper he could find. And this was especially the Fez who would stay at the corner

This Fezco, your teddy bear, was who you came home to every night and woke up to every morning. He does everything he can to spoil you rotten. Each night before bed you would hear him whisper in your ear “You deserve the world my princess and anything you want, imma give it to you.” Sometimes you would wake up to necklaces around your neck or a cartier bracelet that he made you promise to never take off. A new lavish breakfast everyday before work and a delicious dinner after work. Bubble baths were something you both indulged in doing together. He always knew how to get the water just right so it felt like slipping into a warm bed. He would massage your shoulders and let you vent about how some of the patients were intolerable and how the doctors often treated you with limited respect. And once you two got out, you would lotion him slowly massaging his muscles and letting him discuss whatever affairs had been occuring in his life.

People honestly were the most confused at the looks of you two together. Rue, being like Fez’s little sister, questioned it once she first met you. But now she truly believes that “Y’all are the only fucking soulmates on the planet”. She comes over often with Jules and Lex and you’ll find your time giving them advice about whatever is going on in their lives. All while watching reality TV and baking cakes.

And Ashtray, that little rascal. He knew you since the day he was born and imprinted on you easily. He always came to you for advice. Or if Fez broke your heart from something stupid, Ash was the middle man and always made sure that you two made up.

As you relaxed into Fezs touch you laughed to yourself. “What you laughing at little mama?” he said slowly, focusing and perfecting his massage. “It's just...we’ve come so far. Since first grade! We’ve been together.” you sat up and stared at him smiling. “Fez I really do love you. Thank you for being here with me and staying with me.”

He stared at you for a minute and blushed and got up very fidgety and nervous. “Y/N baby...do you...do you want more...more with me?”

You laughed softly and got off of the sofa and onto your tippy toes to kiss his nose gently. “Of course I do silly,” you said smiling and looking into his eyes. “I want you and only you for the rest of my days Fez. Even if it includes your hot ass morning breath burning off my eyebrows every morning!” you giggled throughout the last statement, especially because Fez pulled you in and started to tickle you.

You laughed as he got down on his knee before you. “Baby, what are you doing?” you said gently and played with his hair. And those pure sea glass eyes looked up at you with every wonder in the world.

He held both of your hands. “Y/N M/N L/N...I can’t describe you using simple adjectives and shit but you are the love of my life. I’d give anything and everything to be here with you and protect you and hold you down when shit gets rough. You’ve had my back for almost 15 years babe. Do you know how much that is? 15 years, 180 months, 5475 days, 131400 hours, and 473040000 seconds of your love and joy. I wanna be with you on the good days and bad days. Y/N you got me out of so much fucked up shit. You’ve been a real big sis to my brother and looking out for him, making sure his grades are straight and shit. You look out for my grandma with me. She told me that if I ever let you go, it would be the worst mistake of my life. And guess what baby? I’m not making that mistake. I refuse to go another second more without asking you to be mine and mine only for the rest of our days.”

Your eyes watered and pooled with tears threatening to spill out. You smiled down at him as a tear fell out.

“Will you marry me?” he said, pulling out a beautiful lotus flower diamond ring. It wasn’t traditional but it was so beautiful.

“YES! A MILLION TIMES YES!” you yelled and kissed him, almost knocking him over on the floor. He laughed along with you and kissed you back and wiped away your tears. His smile was ear to ear as he slipped the ring on your finger. “I know you’re mad curious about why I chose a flower ring but...a lotus flower grows through the mud. Once it comes out of the mud it is so beautiful and perfect. We have gotten through so much mud in our lives baby and I wanna finally bloom with you and only you.”

“I love you Fez” you said, your eyes slowly dropping out tears one at a time.

“I love you always and forever Y/N” he said and kissed you once again.

hes never really baked/cooked before

His mom made his food most of the time, and if not, he just eats microwave meals or instant noodles

One day, izu was on a studying grind for finals

He was really stressed out, and you could tell he was pushing himself to the edge

You had the idea of making brownies with him to calm his nerves

It took him a while to force him to stop studying, but he eventually got out of his dorm to bake with you

Again, he doesn’t spend a lot of time in the kitchen, so you had to teach him a lot of stuff

the first time you turned on the mixer he got scared-

omg when you put the brownies in the oven he sat outside watching them rise and it was sO cUTeEe

they turned out amazing and he was so happy

after finals, he ended up cooking and baking more with you

He’s decent in the kitchen, he just gets a bit out of hand sometimes...

he likes meat, so thats what he cooks most of the time

it mostly turns out burnt but hey at least hes trying

he was having so much fun rolling and cutting the pie crust

he also liked brushing the dough rectangles with the melted butter, but he started to overdo it so you sadly had to take it away

he definitely starts food fights and causing messes but hes cute so whatever

When it was done he was so shook that it was good, because he thought he messed up

you like to tease him while hes cooking, he gets pissed but whatever

Leverage Crew walks into your bakery after a job. What do they order?

So to clarify, I don’t work in a proper bakery. I work in the bakery/kitchen of a coffeeshop. My kitchen is also offsite, so we have to deliver to them, and the actual shop itself is very run of the mill in terms of what’s offered. Options are a little limited is what I’m getting at.

SO.

Eliot goes for our breakfast sandwich, probably. It’s a brioche bun with an egg patty (which we make ourselves from real eggs, no powdered pre-cooked shite, and it’s seasoned), bacon, cheddar, spinach, and pesto. He would complain about the bacon portion bc honestly it’s a bit sad. I always add extra bacon when I make it for myself.

Nate goes for our breakfast pastry, called a strata. It’s scrambled eggs (again, we make these), sausage, and shredded cheddar in a danish. It’s greasy as hell, delicious, and we not-so-surreptitiously recommend it to people who come in on Saturday/Sunday mornings with what looks like a serious hangover.

Sophie, depends on if it’s morning or later. Morning, she’d get one of our seasonal scones. They’re hand-rolled, and we rotate cherry almond, lemon berry, peach pie, and pumpkin pecan. There’s also a special double chocolate strawberry you can only get during Valentine’s day (it’s heart-shaped!) If it’s later in the day, though, she’d get our flourless chocolate cake, which is so much I can only eat maybe half at a time, and the slices are tiny. I want to emphasize that. This thing is rich.

Hardison seems like a muffin guy. Handheld, no worries about a plate or whatever, he can hack with one hand and eat it with the other. We’ve got coffeecake, or blueberry, which I think is more his speed. If he’s feeling adventurous, he might try one of the seasonal once, which are all gluten-free. There’s a pumpkin chai, apple cinnamon, cranberry orange, strawberry banana, and blackberry lemonade. Not sure how he feels about the weird flavor/texture of GF baked goods, though. I can see him at least trying any of them, though.

Parker gets a cupcake. These are also seasonal, though we don’t always have one. We’ve also run a lot of different ones, and it’s always a tossup which ones will come back for a second run. S’more and red velvet are the two most popular, though we’ve also done eggnog, butter pecan, and pumpkin chocolate swirl. If there’s no cupcake available, she’ll probably get a chocolate chip cookie. Maybe she’ll buy one of the pre-packaged cookies (we still make these, but they’re shipped backed and packaged while the chocolate chip are baked in-house) to get a cookie-stuffed-cookie, which is chocolate chip with an oreo in the middle.

Three Minutes to Eternity: My ESC 250 (#210-201)

#210: Joy Fleming -- Ein Lied Kann Eine Brücke Sein (Germany 1975)

“Hör auf zu spielen und lerne zu fühlen, Wie viele Menschen Freunde sind, Lerne zu singen, vertraue so wie ein Kind,”

“Stop playing and learn how to feel, How many people are friends Learn how to sing, trust just like a child”

For an older and low-placed entry, this German entry has become a fan favorite! Despite this, I wonder if I really like this enough to make my top three of 1975, because I don't go back to listen to it often.

But when I do, it just takes the conductor's stomping to get me into the mood. It's just a great way to start a song~

While the chorus somehow bugs me a little bit, because of how jarring it is (Joy shouts it all out, in comparison to the verses where she has a somewhat lower register), how it builds really helps with getting the party started. The orchestration also helps with the joie de vivre of the song, and Joy manages to live up to her name on stage.

#209: Muriel Day -- The Wages of Love (Ireland 1969)

“There will be bridges to be crossed And there'll be teardrops to be lost...”

Ireland’s first upbeat song is a diversion from their first four entries in more ways than one. Not only it’s performed by a woman for the first time, but it also warns about the pains of love—while it’s a great experience, you have to pay a lot in the process. (This actually reminds me of one vintage Eurovision blogger talking about how Horoscopes incorporates a more liberal sound with Ireland's conservatism at the time--maybe it was from the same lines?)

And Muriel has an absolute ball on stage with her uber-high lime green dress. She twirls her microphone around when arriving, bounces up and down like she just got a can of Red Bull, and dances as if it was for the last time. The orchestration really helps out on giving out this vivacious vibe (though the lyric "it can make you live/it can make you die" in context is quite horrifying behind the upbeat track).

Basically, this was an upbeat track which I would've switched out for one of the upbeat winners.

#208: Alenka Gotar -- Cvet z Juga (Slovenia 2007)

"Moj beli cvet, moj daljni svet Daj, vrni se, moj bodi spet”

“My white flower, my faraway world Come, return, be mine again”

I've never been a big fan of opera--not just in Eurovision, but also in general. I recognize they have beautiful voices and worked on them for the performance, but I never really like the instrumental or the actual song.

Cvet z juga, however, managed to incorporate opera in a way which is actually enjoyable. Not only because of Alenka’s powerful vocals, but also the nostalgia created with the poetic lyrics and the instrumental. It’s a combination of classical and modern--it's not a dance-floor bop (despite the percussion in the background), but it's definitely out of the ordinary.

Combined with a subtle but effective gimmick (Alenka's light-up hand at the end), and you have Slovenia's first qualifier in the semi-final. Definitely deserved.

Unfortunately, Alenka's gone off a bad path since then...)

#207: Giorgios Alkaios and Friends -- Opa! (Greece 2010)

"Έκαψα το χθες, νύχτες μου παλιές Κι από το μηδέν αρχίζω όσο κι αν δε θες Δάκρυα καυτά ψέμματα πολλά Πλήρωσα όσο χρωστούσα και τα δανεικά"

"I burnt the past, my old nights And I start from scratch even if you don’t want me to Hot tears, too many lies I paid what I owed and borrowed"

"Motherf---ing testosterone!"

The Scandinavia and the World recap for the 2010 contest basically sums up Opa! as this, with all the tribal cries and torn up shirts. I've also heard it described as the "Love Love Peace Peace" of Greek entries, with the prevalent cry "Opa!", strong ethnic influences, and Cretean lyre to boot.

But beyond that, there's a deeper meaning behind the lyrics. By late 2009-early 2010, Greece was facing the burden's of the Great Recession, which would envelop the country in many years. Their GDP would drop by 26% between 2008 and 2014, and unemployment rose up to 25% at the same time. This economic maelstrom led to public uprisings and an exodus of the highly educated.

Opa is a cry for joy--not just to party, but also to fight against a wave of despair considering the circumstances. It strives to give life and inspiration by those who need it, even if it means starting over. And while economics will trump national pride in the end, one asserts themselves as stronger than they think. And that's what makes it an important part of the Greek Golden Age at Eurovision.

#206: Boris Novkovic feat. Lado -- Vukovi Umiru Sami (Croatia 2005)

"Do zore je ostao još koji sat A vani nemir, k’o da je rat Oblačim kaput i odlazim Da sve zaboravim"

"Only a few hours left till dawn And outside unrest, as if a war is on I put my coat on and leave To forget everything"

Balkan ballads are one of the main joys out of Eurovision; obviously from that region, they feature folk instrumentation and sad lyrics about love. Vukovi umiru sami fits into this mold well, but I only managed to put this in tenth place because of the variety of songs on offer, ranging from glam rock to a wholesome peace ballad.

Over time, however, it has grown on me.

The poetic lyrics stood out the most for me--they tell of an end of a relationship on the Danube (which really grounds the song in its origins, despite the fact I associate it with Central European countries as a whole) and the loneliness of the man in it. There's a mournful nature about it, especially with the choir in the background.

And the way it build is so fantastic, amplifying the story and the stakes. The "Dunavoms" between the last two choruses are well-done and elevate this song to greatness.

I planned to rewatch 2005 to see how my rankings change, and thought it would get to be in my top five. Because of a typo on my list, I needed another song to fit the overall order of the list.

And finally, Vukovi umiru sami is in my top five. :)

#205: Marlayne -- One Good Reason (the Netherlands 1999)

“Give me one good reason and I will give you two Say: "I love you forever", say you will, say you do...”

The guitar intro made me think this would be a song I would listen to outside of Eurovision. It reminded me of Michelle Branch’s songs in the early 2000s (of which, Breathe is my current all-time favorite song); her debut album, The Spirit Room, would only be released in 2001!

Alternatively, it has a very country-pop vibe, but it still has a sense of optimism which continues through the entire song. I love how sunny and earnest it is, and it got a really solid result out of it! Unfortunately, it would be the Netherlands' best placing until 2013, but at least it was a jolt of quality in a mediocre year.

#204: Niamh Kavanaugh -- In Your Eyes (Ireland 1993)

“Love's been building bridges between your heart and mine I'm safe here on my island, but I'm out on the edge this time”

One of the most nail-biting votes in Eurovision came in this particular contest: because Malta's phone connection malfunctioned, they had to wait until the end to give their points. At that point, Ireland was 11 points ahead, which means if Malta gave the runner-up their twelve, the latter would win by one point.

The Maltese jury ended up giving Ireland their twelve, which would give Ireland their second consecutive win in the 1990s, along with a point record which would only last a year.

I’ve never felt the vulnerability of falling in love, but I love the narrative arc in the lyrics, which crescendos with the chorus. Niamh’s voice is a bit harsh at times, but delivers on it with a stately grace in a choice suit.

What also seals In Your Eyes for me was the graceful orchestration thanks to Noel Kelehan. It's especially prevalent in the chorus--the studio cut doesn't do it justice...

#203: Sonia -- Better the Devil You Know (United Kingdom 1993)

“I'll give you my heart and my soul if you give me your love..”

...not unlike with the song Ireland was competing with for the win! While the studio cut is decent enough, Better the Devil You Know wouldn't have gotten so close to victory without the live music aspect of it.

It’s not only the orchestration here, but also Sonia’s fun performance and her cute moves. The track is reminiscent of SAW, but it feels like being at a sock hop in a diner and dancing the night away. The backing vocalists do a good job too; I like how they harmonize the in the chorus .

That all being said, would've this made a better winner? It's hard to tell--it would've been more upbeat than most of the 1990s other winners, but In Your Eyes has aged quite well. And I have several other favorites, so I'm not the best one to comment on it.

#202: Serebro -- Song #1 (Russia 2007)

“Gotta tease you, nasty guy So take it, don't be shy Put your cherry on my cake And taste my cherry pie”

Unfortunately, song #1 neither placed on top of the 2007 class, nor was it the first song performed that year So, in more than one case, Song #1 is a misnomer.

Nor are they particularly unique amongst bands--Serebro has some similarities to tATu in 2003, in that they are a girl group with a sensual aesthetic. But while tATu's Eurovision entry is more dark, Serebro's has more attitude and edge.

Such saucy lyrics are what makes Song #1 such a total jam, albeit one the fandom overlooks. The dark production increases the attitude of this song, and I love the girls’ stage presence too! Especially those costumes (again, going back to the tATu comparisons, in that they were best known for their school uniforms, hehe); they never fail in adding some sexiness to the performance.

#201: Severina -- Moja stikla (Croatia 2006)

“Zvrc, zvrc, tražit ćeš moj broj, Kuc, kuc, kucaj nekoj drugoj, Jer još trava nije nikla, Tamo gdje je stala moja štikla!”

"Ring, ring, you'll search for my number, Knock, knock, go knocking somewhere else, For the grass has not yet sprouted, Where my high heel has stepped!”

There’s a lot of silly lyrics in Moja Stikla. From mentioning “sex” to “Afrika Paprika”, it’s easy to suggest that this is nonsensical. I’m reading over the lyrics again myself, and they tell quite a different story—of a woman who just wants men to stop hitting on her.

Even now, I'm still confused on how Zumba and African paprika make sense in avoiding men. Or high heels.

But it all doesn't matter when the music starts. Severina's backing vocalists add to the performances, with their solid harmonies and fun presence. Combined with Severina’s own high energy, it’s a good example of turbo folk (even though there was a bit of controversy about whether it actually sounds like Croatian music), and it’s all kinds of fun!

And so it is...

The weekend with Tampa was excruciatingly normal. We did grocery shopping and laundry, binged Season 4 of Dexter and went out for sushi at the local place where all the servers know us. All the while I was agonizing over my decision to not tell him about my plans to move out before his flight. It felt like the worst thing I’ve ever done, but from where I’m sitting it was the best way to go.

When he landed for his layover and I told him that Cookie had just left he asked if everything was okay. I told him that the dog thing happened in the middle of my 24-48 hour processing window and that I’d ‘put away’ some things that we needed to talk about. He said we could talk once he got a little rest and I went to bed.

This morning I woke up to a video message from him letting me know that he was curling up in bed at the house in Orlando to get some sleep. There were more tears but I pulled myself together and went to work.

It was around 11am when we had a video chat and told him that I need to take a step back and that means moving out. We skipped a lot of steps, jumped in head first and I was SO not healed from MM and the quad when we started. I pushed past my own fear of things being ‘too good to be true’ and accepted that our relationship was amazing and, as we always said to each other, “just the way it’s supposed to be.” But having my trust breached like it was, absolutely shattered me. There’s no better way to describe it. I was clear from day one that I was fragile but he was careless with me.

The conversation got into the “what happened and when” that I had made that decision and he showed me his facebook profile on a tablet. It showed “in a relationship” but he hadn’t updated the privacy setting. He claimed to not know that he needed to actually disable his OkC account and denied being on there Friday when Cookie did what she did. He was fixated on the details and not seeing how hurt I am... at least that’s how it felt.

I told him that I didn’t want to end our relationship but that it’s up to him if he wants to work on rebuilding from different addresses. In a message later he said that he doesn’t think he can continue seeing me if I move out because in his life, it’s “all or nothing.” Ouch.

I KNOW this is the right choice. A partner who sees the big picture and understands the damage that was done would respect that choice and ask how to make amends, how to make me feel safe again, and do more than say, “I'm sorry. I'm tired I'm distraught. And then all this crashes in on me. It's not fair to me at all. So I'm just going to say I don't want you to move out but I'm not going to discuss this with you anymore.”

So there was no further discussion about it. He sent pictures and video of the dog, talked about the local pizza place he missed, the weather... and we sent memes back and fourth.

I’m off work in a few minutes and going to Cookie’s for dinner. She’s being absolutely amazing, which makes me cry for other reasons. I’ve never been the one who needed to be helped, but here I am.

I created a “Moving Party” event but couldn’t bring myself to invite anyone. I need help. I know that I’m not physically capable of doing the literal heavy lifting involved, let alone the emotional weight of going back to the old house to get the bedroom set that was mine in the post-quad period of sharing a roof with MM but not a bed. His primary GF is going to get there shortly before me on Saturday and help get things ready to load into the truck. She lives down here and initially volunteered to help unload down here, too but MM wasn’t totally clear when we spoke this morning.

I’m taking one more night to just be a mess, eat lobster and cherry pie at Cookie’s then the packing begins. This fucking hurts so much.
