Today in my brisk winter walk, I was greeted by a gorgeous friendly norwegian forest cat. He actually ran to me, asked to be pet and licked my hands. Today, I was greeted by the spirit of the forest.
Viking cats were not your standard Felis Domesticus – they were the Skogkatt (Norwegian for “Forest cat”), a wild breed native to the North. In Norwegian folklore, these cats were sometimes called Huldrekat (Huldre are female forests spirits, literally ‘the hidden folk’).
