I love making trust building a two way thing
Every day I’m asking him to do things that he finds scary and asking him to overcome those things in order to build trust. It’s only fair that I return the favour and make myself vulnerable, not every bird can be worked with quite this way since safety is always a priority- if I’m confident I’ll get bit trying then I’m not going to do it. But by reading his body language and allowing him to approach we can see so much calm curiosity so I feel pretty safe doing it with him.
I can’t say if there’s any science backing interactions like this since there aren’t studies on parrot perceptions of human vulnerability but it does seem to help. And for many birds the scary part about people is their hands so little interactions like this give them a way to learn about me without having to deal with big fears.
Not something I would do with every bird, but it seems to work well for Toto

What are your thoughts on the laws of robotics?
Tumblr media
I guess they make sense. They're like the basic principles that have to be taken into account when you design a robot, since they will be included in their programming.
Tumblr media
I'm... not sure how to describe them, or what the consensus is among robots.
Tumblr media
I've also... learnt the hard way that it's up to the person writing the code to make sure that the laws are properly integrated with the rest of the programming.
Otherwise...

Forever and a Day This exaggerated way of saying “a really long time” would have been considered poetic in the sixteenth century. William Shakespeare popularized the saying in his play The Taming of the Shrew (probably written in the early 1590s and first printed in 1623).
Though Shakespeare is often credited with coining the phrase, he wasn’t the first writer to use it. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, Thomas Paynell’s translation of Ulrich von Hutten’s De Morbo Gallico put the words in a much less romantic context. The treatise on the French disease, or syphilis, includes the sentence: “Let them bid farewell forever and a day to these, that go about to restore us from diseases with their disputations.” And it’s very possible it’s a folk alteration of a much earlier phrase: Forever and aye (or ay—usually rhymes with day) is attested as early as the 1400s, with the OED defining aye as “ever, always, continually”—meaning forever and aye can be taken to mean “for all future as well as present time.”
He may not have invented it, but Shakespeare did help make the saying a cliché; the phrase has been used so much that it now elicits groans instead of swoons. Even he couldn’t resist reusing it: Forever and a day also appears in his comedy As You Like It, written around 1600.

Sun HW 2 lore. That I thought of briefly.
I do think that when Sun first arrived at the daycare, he was acting more like a wild animal, reacting on instincts. He get's aggressive, and even fights people. Because, he knows the truth. But he smack talks the lie, and misses his original territory.
At first, then when he was placed in a new environment. It riled him up.. He started to miss it, and same with Moon too. So, he started to lash out, because it was one way to help him cope with it.
And also, because he doesn't fancy the company very much, because he knows how careless they are at running the Pizza Plex. Lore wise, if this had something to do with it. Then that's what he must of been doing.
By wanting to take matters by his own hands. And was behaving more like a wild animal. But after some time, after finding some happiness with kids. I feel he emotionally felt better. And he tames down a bit.

Speaking of makeovers if Thalassa existed in canon I like to imagine her post movie dress would do away with styles of the old monarchy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thalassa would wear these in blues or teals, with wave patterns and sashes that could represent sea foam. It's also symbolic of a new age brought on by her reign (and abdication). It's also a cool reference to the Empirical silhouette which became popular after the abolishing of the French monarchy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Or she could wear these gowns based on her experiences living among the Hunters. It's less intricate and definitely not what you'd expect a royal woman to wear. But it shows how Thalassa is no longer conforming to rigid dress protocol. The delicious irony the Hunters style becoming popular after her "parents" tried to get rid of them is a bonus! I see her wearing them after her abdication.
Being a blood member of the mermaid kingdom her royal crowns incorporates lots of pearls and seashells.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Her hair is no longer straightened and curled, but back to her natural textured and given dreadlocks. Dreadlocks are often seen as unattractive but an ex-princess adopting the lool shows that can be elegant and beautiful. And versatile- imagine the different styles she can wear! Maybe a reference to pop culture like Zendaya's iconic locks. Imagine seashells and pearls and chains entwined.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Overall Thalassa's makeover shows how's she grown to adopt multiple cultures: hunter, mermaid, human, even beast. Versus her "parents" attempting to impose only one culture as the "correct" one. It fits her personality and still feminine without turning her into a bland shadow of her former self.

Here's some clips of the first week with Toto
Not included is the many hours spent just sitting on the ground ignoring him.
I will be making a proper in depth video once we're at a better stage but here's at least a little snippet of how we went from Angry At Hands to Maybe Hands Okay.
A lot of desensitizing, counter conditioning, and just focusing on responding to his body language and keeping my posture/ eye contact/ movements as non-confrontational as possible.

What do you think the process of taming is, after all this time?
Tumblr media
That's a tough topic, alright! Plus it's something I only know from outside, but I will try...
When I was younger I thought it was making the robot think and act like a person.
Tumblr media
Now I think it's... more complex than that, maybe too hard to explain in one go.
Tumblr media
But I think the most important part is that a robot gains a motivation of their own, usually derived or modified from their original purpose.
And for this new motivation to occur, they need to have a bond with someone else.
And I guess they eventually become tamed.
Tumblr media
For someone who works with robots, that part was never my strength. I'm more of a hardware expert.
I would recommend checking "Understanding Robots" by the Author for his own insights. He based it on his experiences. But there are still things I don't know.
