Do folks who are someone’s favorite fic writer, fan artist, etc. know it? Are they aware that their work has made a genuine impact on the lives of other human beings walking the planet? That there are real flesh-and-blood people who have been touched and affected by what they’ve made, and that they are thought of and discussed frequently with affection and gratitude and awe?
I hope they know. They deserve to know.

it's been really hard, this whole year so far has been kicking my butt and a lot of things are starting to take their toll on me. i will be honest, as of right now i am feeling at a new low in my life. it's a lot of personal things and i've been struggling with so much.
i hope you all know that you are all loved, even if it doesn't seem like anyone is there. someone loves you, you are cherished! you are so important. someone out there really cares for you. you're wanted! you're loved! you're cherished! you're important! you are someone's everything! you are someone's number 1!! you are someone's shining star!
please...don't ever forget that..

I have been offline since last June due to Mom's health decline and eventual passing just this weekend. Once I pick up the pieces and get back on my feet I will resume my regularly scheduled Twitch streams and other art-related endeavors. Life is too short and unrelenting, spend as much time as you can with your loved ones especially you parents, give them your love and leave no room for regrets later. Peace be with you all.

There is only one trope that I truly don’t know how I feel about and it’s the “it’s too late” trope. Where you show up and it’s just too late. They are gone. You can’t do anything. You were too late. It’s especially worse if you get to learn about them. Learn more about this character. Learn to love and care about them. Only to realize, they are gone now. It’s too late. I don’t know if it’s worse to learn about a character you never knew. To hear stories and see how much others loved them. The helplessness you feel when you know that you are powerless and useless. I hate it. I love it. I don’t know. I guess that this feeling isn’t strictly fictional, so tell someone you love that you love them. Hold them close. One day, it may be too late.

idk if anyone still following me is even active anymore or will see this, but apologies for how inactive i’ve been. i was planning to start posting more when the dteam meetup happened, but in early september my dad passed away. it was really sudden and unexpected, he was still pretty young. and even now i’m still dealing with everything that comes with the loss of a loved one. so since then i have been on a deliberate hiatus, and quite honestly i’m not sure when i’ll be ready to come back, it may be months yet. i just figured i should probably say something in case anyone was wondering where i disappeared to.
that being said, i am also aware of what’s happened recently, namely the allegations against dream, and that there’s been a bit of a mass exodus in fandom. as for where i stand, i will continue to consume and enjoy dteam and dnf content until something both concrete (aka irrefutable) and actually illegal surfaces. until then my opinion on the more questionable alleged interactions that took place will remain critical in the absence of sufficient proof or information.

neocities guide - why you should build your own html website
do you miss the charm of the 90s/00s web where sites had actual personality instead of the same minimalistic theme? are you feeling drained by social media and the constant corporate monopoly of your data and time? do you want to be excited about the internet again?
try neocities!!
what is neocities?
neocities is a free hosting website that lets you build your own html website from scratch, with total creative control. in their own words:
"we are tired of living in an online world where people are isolated from each other on boring, generic social networks that don't let us truly express ourselves. it's time we took back our personalities from these sterilized, lifeless, monetized, data mined, monitored addiction machines and let our creativity flourish again."
why should I make my own website?
web3 has been overtaken by capitalism & conformity. websites that once were meant to be fun online social spaces now exist solely to steal your data and sell you things. it sucks!!
building a personal site is a great way to express yourself and take control of your online experience.
what would I even put on a website?
the best part about making your own site is that you can do literally whatever the hell you want! focus on a specific subject or make it a wild collection of all your interests. share your art! make a shrine for one of your interests! post a picture of every bird you see when you step outside! make a collection of your favorite blinkies! the world is your oyster !!
here are some cool example sites to inspire you:
recently updated neocities sites | it can be fun to just look through these and browse people's content!
space bar | local interstellar dive bar

at some point it's just like. do they even fucking like the thing they're asking AI to make? "oh we'll just use AI for all the scripts" "we'll just use AI for art" "no worries AI can write this book" "oh, AI could easily design this"
like... it's so clear they've never stood in the middle of an art museum and felt like crying, looking at a piece that somehow cuts into your marrow even though the artist and you are separated by space and time. they've never looked at a poem - once, twice, three times - just because the words feel like a fired gun, something too-close, clanging behind your eyes. they've never gotten to the end of the movie and had to arrive, blinking, back into their body, laughing a little because they were holding their breath without realizing.
"oh AI can mimic style" "AI can mimic emotion" "AI can mimic you and your job is almost gone, kid."
... how do i explain to you - you can make AI that does a perfect job of imitating me. you could disseminate it through the entire world and make so much money, using my works and my ideas and my everything.
and i'd still keep writing.
i don't know there's a word for it. in high school, we become aware that the way we feel about our artform is a cliche - it's like breathing. over and over, artists all feel the same thing. "i write because i need to" and "my music is how i speak" and "i make art because it's either that or i stop existing." it is such a common experience, the violence and immediacy we mean behind it is like breathing to me - comes out like a useless understatement. it's a cliche because we all feel it, not because the experience isn't actually persistent. so many of us have this ... fluttering urgency behind our ribs.
i'm not doing it for the money. for a star on the ground in some city i've never visited. i am doing it because when i was seven i started taking notebooks with me on walks. i am doing it because in second grade i wrote a poem and stood up in front of my whole class to read it out while i shook with nerves. i am doing it because i spent high school scribbling all my feelings down. i am doing it for the 16 year old me and the 18 year old me and the today-me, how we can never put the pen down. you can take me down to a subatomic layer, eviscerate me - and never find the source of it; it is of me. when i was 19 i named this blog inkskinned because i was dramatic and lonely and it felt like the only thing that was actually permanently-true about me was that this is what is inside of me, that the words come up over everything, coat everything, bloom their little twilight arias into every nook and corner and alley
"we're gonna replace you". that is okay. you think that i am writing to fill a space. that someone said JOB OPENING: Writer Needed, and i wrote to answer. you think one raindrop replaces another, and i think they're both just falling. you think art has a place, that is simply arrives on walls when it is needed, that is only ever on demand, perfect, easily requested. you see "audience spending" and "marketability" and "multi-line merch opportunity"
and i see a kid drowning. i am writing to make her a boat. i am writing because what used to be a river raft has long become a fully-rigged ship. i am writing because you can fucking rip this out of my cold dead clammy hands and i will still come back as a ghost and i will still be penning poems about it.
it isn't even love. the word we use the most i think is "passion". devotion, obsession, necessity. my favorite little fact about the magic of artists - "abracadabra" means i create as i speak. we make because it sluices out of us. because we look down and our hands are somehow already busy. because it was the first thing we knew and it is our backbone and heartbreak and everything. because we have given up well-paying jobs and a "real life" and the approval of our parents. we create because - the cliche again. it's like breathing. we create because we must.
you create because you're greedy.
