"it's not my fault you don't like girls!" is such a crazy line for so many reasons.
they filmed versions with mike saying "you don't like girls yet" but didn't use it. hm.
"you don't like girls"? so... mike knows, right? and he backs down because bringing it up (even though technically it's not uncalled for since will was the first to make it personal but anyway) clearly hurt will?
"it's not my fault" so mike recognizes that will is unfairly zeroing in on him? that he's upset with mike specifically being the one to get a girlfriend and abandon him, himself, and their party for her?
"it's not my fault" so it's true that he feels suddenly cornered and attacked here, and that's why he puts his foot in his mouth? that he really wasn't trying to be a jerk like many still think?
the general fact that mike obviously is not the reason will's gay, but also he kind of is very much the reason lmao.
the way that he basically says "listen, i know that you're gay and all, but did you seriously think it was going to be you and me, together, us and only us, sitting in what has always been our safe space doing that which has always brought us joy, forever?" and will responds with a very simple "yes. i did. i really did." that kills and breaks the heart of everyone in a 5k mile radius including them. :(
#mine#it will never Not be insane methinks#could u imagine if that's when mike maybe had an inkling of will's feelings and then at the end of s3 he realized His feelings and then#there's the radio silence between them n mike is always calling calling calling only to receive Nothing At All from will and hears from el#tht he's painting for who she thinks is a girl so in his mind he's like 'fuck. i guess it was possible after all. :/' but whatever it's fin#his heart hurts but it's fine it Has to be fine they can still be friends and that'll just have to be enough it's okay he has el it's Fine#it's literally soooooooooooo fine so he's trying to ask will questions like he doesn't wanna fucking off himself rn LMAO but will is being#rude for whatever reason which like. weird. but No This Is Fine I'll Make It Fine Maybe It's Just The Distance Idk :( so he keeps trying n#cracks a joke but will doesn't laugh he just stares at him with a Done^tm look on his face so fuckign whatever it's not fine but#WHATEVER his gf has been lying to him for months and will didn't say anything AT ALL not abt that and just in fucking general will who said#'not possible' but clearly Lied abt it and likes someone else now while he's reeling over this still and then it turns out tht will is#hurting too so mike extends an olive branch again n takes full blame n responsibility even though he doesn't need to at all and he opens up#to will abt things he doesn't tell anyone else and it's Good it's Working and will gives him the most beautiful painting ever but oh...#it's not from him.. it's from el.. :/ ok... and everything he's saying is from el and every time he tries to talk to will he ends up making#it about el so like. okay. alright. i guess he did move on. which is fine bc it has to be fine bc he only wants to be best friends again n#mike will never say no to him n then el is dying n then the world splits in 4 n then max dies n then she doesn't n el isn't talking to him#and she's keeping things from him again and will is in trouble again And Nothing Is Fucking Fine Actually and he STILL doesn't kno tht will#told him the biggest lie EVER and like. jesus fucking christ. could u imagine being mike wheeler i'd fucking kms THAT'S TOO MUCH STRESS!

part 6 of the tozier series [  i  ii iii  iv v ]
(losers and reader are 20+ and in college in this)
4.1k words
the door opened and closed downstairs as you towel dry your hair, the fog of the scorching shower you'd just endured fogging your mirrors. you frown as you wipe a line through the mirror and your eyes stare back at you for a split moment before the fog reclaims the image and you sigh.
pulling yourself together, you unlock the door and start to walk towards your room on the other side of the house. as you pad towards your room, a throat clears and you jump a bit, eyes landing on stan from where he stands at the bottom of the stairs. he's grinning, "hey, y/n." he says gently, eyes staying on your face. your face goes warm, "hi, stan. um - richie's- i don't know where richie is," you start, looking around.
richie rounds the corner as if he's been summoned, brushing his teeth as he itches his side. you hiss, "stan's here. why didn't you tell me he was coming over?"
it's quiet enough that the boy down the stairs can't hear you and richie narrows his eyes with a smirk.
"calm down, it's just stan. he's the only one here for dinner tonight. the others won't be here 'till sometime after. why d'you ask?" he asks, his mouth covered in spit and toothpaste. you wrinkle your nose at his poor hygiene but gesture to your frame, wet and covered with only your towel.
richie fixes you with an eye roll, "believe me, nobody is interested in you like that. especially stan. you're just self obsessed, y/n, it's embarrassing for you. not everyone wants to fuck you. i'm pretty sure nobody does." he says with a slight glare. "just because you're into my best friend doesn't mean he's into you."
you shove richie immediately, your eyes catching a glimpse of light brown curls as they zip around the balcony, disappearing. you wish he hadn't heard that. “fuck you, richie. why do you try to embarrass me? i hate you.”
a moment later, your mom is calling your names. "richie, y/n! stan's here for dinner!"
you're furious and the look you send richie as you turn to escape to your room burns through his skull. you're flustered as you get ready for dinner, pulling on your clothes with bright red cheeks. your mind goes to the party you'd all gone to the other week - the night that you and bill had hooked up.
you can't believe you've almost done it. you've slept with five of richie's best friends, and he doesn't even know yet. the boy downstairs comes to your mind and you sigh, thinking back to when he'd teased you at the party, when you'd sat on his lap to the quarry the other day, when he'd slid his foot against your leg under the table the the other night while you were all eating....
the butterflies in your stomach won't go away. plus, it's stan - and for some reason that seems different than the rest of them....
you find your way to the dining room, eyes meeting stan's. he grins from where he's sat, playing with the bottle of beer in front of him, your father having offered him a modelo. "hi, y/n." he says in greeting, giving you a smirk. you smile back, "hi, stan."
"that skirt looks great." he says, "kind of too bad you changed."
 and you clear your throat just as your dad and richie walk into the room, hands full of plates of food. you're red, hoping they hadn't heard. what the hell has gotten into stan?
after that, dinner went by without much issue besides you and richie getting into a fight until your father forced you two to calm down.
now, the losers are over and bev is insisting someone go get ice cream from the store so you can all watch a movie with sundaes. "stan the man, you should go." mike says with a grin, causing stan to flip him off with a bored face. your eyes catch on his hands and you can't help but let your mind wander...
"why?" stan asks. eddie shrugs, "you do drive the fastest."
the others laugh and you smile at the ground a bit in amusement. "fine. i get to pick the flavors, though."
the protests from the others echo in the room and you roll your eyes, "just promise to get vanilla?" you ask, and stan looks at you. "what, you're a vanilla girl?" he asks. the others are buzzing in the background about their favorite flavors, but the intense look on stan's face makes you grin. "n-no, promise i'm not a vanilla girl." you say, lifting a brow. he's smirking full-on. "i just know eddie is." you add, and stan laughs. his smile gives you butterflies and eddie nods, "uh, yeah, it's objectively the best flavor, because then you can-"
he's ranting now, and stan shakes his head with an eye roll as he stands up and flips his keys around his fingers. "i'll be back quick."
"why don't you take your little girlfriend with you?" richie teases, gesturing to you. you throw him a glare. "fuck off, richie. y/n, get over here." stan says, nodding his head and gesturing for you to follow him out the door. it's so quickly that stan agrees to have you come along that some of the others share a look, making your stomach burn. he gives one more pissed off look to richie before he leaves the room, and so you awkwardly follow him out to richie's car.
it's a quick drive to the store. finally, you’re back in richie's car with several different ice creams in your hands. you and stan mostly joke the whole time, until you slide into his car again and fall into a moment of silence.
"it's always been funny to see richie say all this bullshit about you in front of me." stan breaks the silence, and you look at him in surprise. he shrugs, eyes still on the road. "not funny that he's an asshole, but it's just amusing. that he thinks i'm not attracted to you."
your stomach drops just as fast as your jaw does at stan's words. "oh, y-you..." you try to act casual. "what?" you ask then, trying to understand what he means. he laughs a bit, jaw tilting back and glinting in the afternoon light. "c'mon, y/n. look at yourself." is all he says, shaking his head as his eyes drag up your figure before returning to the road.
you stare at him, butterflies fluttering in your stomach and your thighs clenching.
"i know you like me, remember? since what, fifth grade?" he says with a cheeky grin, eyebrows lifting in a tease. you let out a breath, the butterflies thumping in your chest. "god, stan. that's not funny."
"why?" he asks, his voice deep as he sets the car towards your house again, the ice cream at your feet. "that joke is so old." you whisper, looking at stan. he raises his brows, "is it?"
"yes." you say firmly, but you feel your resolve breaking. he hums, shaking his head but not speaking.
it's quiet besides the song playing on the radio quietly - every little bit hurts by brenda holloway - and you pretend not to feel your heart flutter in affection as you hear stan sing along under his breath.
he's driving with one hand on the wheel, one down on the shift. "you know, you don't need to have your hand there. this isn't a manual." you say, changing the subject and gesturing to his stray hand.
he laughs and it ignites something very deep inside of you. "i'm so used to shifting gears. force of habit, i guess."
"richie's an idiot, he can't even drive manual." you say, shaking your head.
"yeah, but sometimes there's benefits to richie being incapable of driving anything but automatic." he says, his hand falling softly to hold onto your bare thigh. you grip the side of the car door tighter, unable to take his teasing anymore.
stan's pulling into your driveway, and so you turn to him. "why are you teasing me? did someone tell you something?" you ask. what if one of the losers squealed and told him that you fucked them all? he sighs, putting the car in park and looking at your eyes.
"what? i'm not joking around. you just look so hot in that skirt." he admits with a light laugh and red cheeks.”if i’m making you uncomfortable, i’m sorry. i didn’t mean to at all, i just really want you.”
it’s honest and bold, just the way stan usually is, and you swallow thickly. he really wants you? "prove it, then." you say, eyes locking with his, his hand squeezing your bare thigh.
two minutes later, you're laying down in the backseat as it’s parked in your driveway, stan on top of you sucking the skin on your neck.
“you want to do this right now? even though we could get caught?” you say breathlessly, hands tangled in his hair. "when else?" he says, staring at your lips. your stomach drops a bit, but you don't let it bother you too much as you have stan between your legs in the backseat.
"then let's go, uris." you say, pulling him down by the neck in desperation. he smirks into the kiss, kissing you so deeply you see stars.
"you think it'd be hot if i fuck you in his car, huh?" he whispers quietly in your ear. your eyes roll back as his fingers rub tight, teasing circles over your core, a fire slowly being lit. you only whimper a bit, biting your lip. "y-yes. we don't have time, th-though-" you gasp then, as he slips a finger into you.
he still watches you intently, listening as if nothing was abnormal as he pumps his finger, curling it and making you whimper as you try to spit out your words. it makes you turn bright red. "the ice cream- it'll melt, they'll know." you say through a moan, eyes shutting as he pumps his finger in and out of you teasingly.
"richie says it...t-tastes different after-" you moan, "-after it's been too melted."
"he's full of shit." stan pulls back, finger still teasing you. your chest raises and falls quickly, feeling flustered and desperate. stan smirks, "plus, i want to taste you first."
your throat gets dry. "p-please." you say, cheeks feeling hot with need. the windows are starting to fog up in the car he's parked on your driveway as he slowly slides the underwear down from your legs, kissing the skin as he goes. you're breathing shakily and then he's bringing his eyes up to you before lifting up your skirt and bringing his head under, your eyes rolling back to stare up at the lights in the back of the car that richie and bev had strung up one night.
you gasp in pleasure as you feel stan's tongue dart out and lick a bold, flat stripe up your heat. "fuck," you whisper, your hands moving from gripping the seat you've laid on to pulling up your skirt to lace your fingers through his hair. he swirls his tongue around your clit and you tense, the feeling of pleasure unlike anything you've felt before.
you wonder if it's because you could get caught by richie at any moment, or because it's in richie's car, or just because it's stan.
his hands snake up to hold your waist as he starts to move his tongue, holding you down so you can’t buck your hips, his thumbs rubbing the skin that's revealed between your top and your skirt.
“stan.” you whimper, back arching and yelping as he slips a finger inside you. he hums around your clit and your toes curl, gasping and whining as he pumps into you and curls his finger. his name falls from your lips like a prayer and you can almost feel his smirk against you as his tongue starts to work circles.
his hand still presses against you as you buck your hips, your legs wrapping over his shoulders. he pulls away slightly, lips glistening as he smirks up at you. “you're perfect, y/n.” he mutters, making you moan, legs squeezing around his head. he smirks at you, finger coming up to rub at your clit slowly as he brings his tongue to thrust into you.
you squeeze his hair lightly as you whimper, the feeling euphoric as your toes curl. his name falls from your lips every few seconds as he ruthlessly eats you out, the coil in your stomach about to release. “stan, please, i’m gonna cum.” you mutter, eyes closed and chest rising and falling.
“not yet.” he says, jaw set as he pulls back, meeting your eyes. you whimper at the loss of stimulation, looking at him in shock. his hand comes up to grip your jaw softly, and he kisses you sweetly. "i want you to forget about everything and everyone besides me." he whispers against your lips.
chills run down your spine - does he know about the others? there's no way stan knows.
you nod, biting your lip as you watch him move back down between your legs, this time slipping two fingers into you and rubbing your clit with his thumb. "how's that feel?" he mutters, and you feel like you're on fire. "fuck- stan, so good. feels s'good." you mutter. he hums, sinking back down to suck and toy with your clit, fingers curling expertly and making your stomach tense as you try not to cum.
"stan, please, please, please-" you start to beg, arm coming to your forehead as you shake. he hums against your clit and you moan loudly - loud enough that if someone were passing by the car they'd certainly know - and clench around his fingers. "no need to beg, y/n." he says cockily, eyes glinting with pride. "cum for me."
you're shaking and moaning his name as you finally hit your high, the best orgasm you think you've ever had. your breathing stutters as he laps you up with his tongue gently, other hand soothing your hair. your eyes are pressed shut as you clench through your high. "fuck, stan." you whimper.
he's pulling himself to sit up and bringing his fingers to his mouth to clean them off, looking at you with an almost questioning look. it makes you feel like putty.
"i think you need to get eaten out more often, babylove." is all he says before he opens the door, adjusting his pants, slipping your underwear into his pocket, and grabbing the ice cream. "or at least by someone who knows what they're doing."
you're speechless as you gather yourself, smoothing your hair and sliding from the back of the car on shaky legs. stan turns to walk towards the front door but you shove him quickly against the hood, kissing him deeply. you taste yourself faintly on his soft lips, and his free hand comes to grip you, squeezing your ass as he kisses you back. you pull back, "give me my underwear." you order. he shrugs, "you’ll be fine without them, won't you tozier?"
your jaw drops. "it's like you want richie to find out." you say, giving him a slight glare despite the intense butterflies in your gut. he grins at you, pecking your nose. "so what if he does? doesn't change the fact that i'd do it again."
and then he's pulling you by the hand gently towards the house and you're stumbling behind him with red cheeks and jello legs.
jesus christ, that just happened.
"goddamn, what made you take so long?" richie mutters as you and stan walk back into the room, stan’s hand leaving the small of your back after pinching your ass slightly. you clear your throat. "the self check out line was so long." you respond.
"whatever. i'm hungry. where's the ice cream?" richie asks, the others in the room all looking at you. stan moves to sit next to bill on the couch.
"it's in the freezer. it softened up on the way back." stan says, seemingly disinterested. his passiveness makes your throat dry. why was that so hot?
"it's a three minute drive." richie says, sitting back down. you follow suit, sitting on the floor and grabbing a blanket, wary of the fact that you're sitting with 7 people who, if looking, might catch that you're not wearing your underwear. that stan has your underwear.
"okay. guess we just hit a road bump." stan says, picking his nails. bev snorts at that, and ben's grinning. you huff a laugh, too. it's funny when stan's rude to richie.
"bet y/n's just happy she got to spend time with you. she was probably drooling over you the whole time, huh?" he says as if you're not there.
"richie, what's your problem?" you spit. he looks at you, "so defensive." he laughs. bev rolls her eyes, "you're the one who's always teasing her, richie. ease up."
"what, are you two girlfriends now?" richie says, still on his cocky attitude. you glare.
"no, we're not. but we did fuck." bev says casually, staring at richie with a serious look. richie rolls his eyes, "okay, don't joke about fucking my sister. off-limits."
"what?!" you yelp, standing up quickly, adjusting your skirt with a red face. thank god it's not too short. stan smirks as he sees you adjust your skirt, but all richie's friends are staring at him and you. "you have to be kidding, richie. you are such a fucking hypocrite."
he rolls his eyes, "cecily and you aren't even that close anymore!" he defends. "yes, because of you!" you yell. “it’s too late, anyways. i think we’re even.” you add with a grin.
“just get over it. and stop trying to say you fucked my friend, it sounds desperate. as if any of them would settle for you." richie snarls, smirking as if he's proud of what he'd said.
it makes you smirk, shaking your head. if only he knew.
"richie, i don't think she's joking." ben speaks up. everyone's eyes turn to ben, and your heart pounds as you bite your lip. you look at each of the others quickly - ben's gnawing on his lip and looking at richie uncertainly, mike is staring at the ground in thought, eddie's staring at his lap with an amused smirk, bev is smirking between the two boys with her eyebrows raised, and bill is looking at ben with a small look of realization.
your eyes land on stan, who's staring back at you intently, a suggestive look on his face as he tugs a small part of your underwear from his front pocket as he thumbs it with his finger. you send him an intent look back, trying to beg him not to do it.
when you look at richie, he's shocked, mouth agape. "what?" richie says quietly.
"you fucked my best friend. it was only fair." you say with a shrug, smiling at him. he looks like he might punch you.
you stifle a laugh, trying to keep a straight face but failing. richie looks furious as he walks up to you, the two of you standing in the middle of the make-shift circle the losers formed in the living room. he’s breathing heavy, face red. you don't think hes ever looked so furious in his whole life.
"which one?" he says through a clenched jaw, looking quickly over each of their faces, all of them smirking back slightly. you can’t help your own smirk or the shrug.
"all of them."

Game Night
** Hi everyone here is my first imagine in a while and it is pretty long and there will be a part 2!
Synopsis: Luke and you broke up 6 months ago. Ashton invites you over for game night.
Luke Hemmings x reader
Warnings: None
Please enjoy and let me know what you think!!
Tumblr media
*not my photo*
“Come on Y/N you have to come see us! We’re traveling across the country just to see you!” Ashton whined through the phone.
“Well I didn’t ask you too Ash. I can’t risk seeing him-”
“He’s not coming, he’s staying here with her. Hell I don’t even think he knows we left.”
You sighed, “Who exactly is ‘we’?”
“Me and Mikey,” you could hear the smile in his voice. You had always been the closest to him and Michael. Not that you and Calum weren’t close, it was just different.
“What about Cal?” you asked.
“He’s staying back so you know who doesn’t get suspicious about the three of us all leaving for a weekend.”
“I don’t know Ash,” you sighed again. “I have work and stuff. Plus I was supposed to see the twins this weekend, and I wanted to go to Target…” you trailed off as you rattled on with excuses.
“Oh please, you know you miss us just as much as we miss you. It’s been six months Y/N, just come hangout for the night. I promise it’s not gonna be anything big. Just you, me, Mike and Crystal. We’ll just do pizza and play some games. Please Y/N, we’re already at the airport and if you don’t come willingly we got your new address from Lacey.”
You mentally cursed your best friend, she knew you specifically didn’t give any of them your new address for this very reason. You were out of excuses and you could hear Ashton’s smirk through the phone. He had you cornered and he knew it.
“Fine. Text me your Airbnb info and I’ll come over tomorrow when I’m done work. But you better be getting the good pizza, and there better be drinks.”
“Yes she’s in!” you heard Mikey yell in the background. You rolled your eyes but couldn’t help the smile that spread over your face.
“Bye boys, safe flight.”
You hung up the phone and put your head in your hands. While part of you was very excited to see Ashton and Michael again there was still a part of you that was worried. There was too much history between you and him so of course they all knew about it. They tried not to take sides during the break up but everyone knew he had Calum and you had the other two. It was part of the reason that you had moved back home instead of trying to find a place to stay in L.A.. You could feel the tension that was building between the four of them and the last thing you wanted to do was ruin their friendships or their band. It was all way more important than you.
You hadn’t really spoken to any of them much other than the casual ‘how are you’ texts here and there. But from him it had been radio silence for six months. Now here you were, five minute after speaking with Ashton and you were already more stressed than you’d be in week. What did you get yourself into?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was nearing 6:15 and you couldn’t bring yourself to pull up to the house, you had been circling the block for almost 20 minutes and every time you were about to stop you told yourself one more lap. You weren’t sure what was wrong with you, you knew it was only Ash, Mike and Crystal and yet just the thought of being around his friends was enough to make you sick.
“Fuck it,” you muttered, finally pulling into the drive. You grabbed your bag, and although you hated to admit it, you were excited to see your old friends.
You walked up to the door and hesitantly knocked on it. As soon as your knuckles hit the wood you could hear yelling and footsteps running up to the door.
“Y/N!!!” Ashton yelled engulfing you in a massive hug.
“Can’t breathe…”
“Oi sorry, I’ve just missed you lots.”
“I missed you too.” you grinned at him, wondering what you had been worried about all day. It felt like no time had passed.
“Well let her in the door man,” Michael spoke up from behind.
You smiled as you entered the house and walked over to Mikey hugging him hard.
“It’s been too long,” he muttered as he let you back.
“Well yeah, that kinda happens when there’s a global pandemic and I move across the county.”
You could tell Michael was going to tell you off for moving but Crystal came in the room then and thankfully saved you from talking about him.
She wrapped her arms around you giving you a quick hug, “It’s so good to see you, I’m glad you made it!”
“Me too, though if I didn’t come willingly I knew you’d show up on my doorstep.”
“You got that right,” she laughed, “It took all my energy to keep them in the house all day.”
“Well I appreciate it, I had a lot of work to get through today figuring I’ll still be hungover on Monday from this weekend.”
It was fitting that as soon as I mentioned being hungover we walked into the kitchen to a full stocked bar.
“Man I forgot you guys really go all out for game nights,” you couldn’t help but laugh at some of the fond memories.
“Okay so what game are we playing first?” Ashton asked as he handed you a drink.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Two hours later and you really didn’t understand why you were so nervous to come. It was one of the best feelings catching up with your old friends and thankfully they didn’t bring him up once. You were in the middle of an intense game of charades, Crystal and you were kicking the boys asses.
“Alright do you guys want to give up yet? You’re never going to beat us so why not save yourselves the embarrassment.”
They both looked annoyed at how the game was progressing, “Well maybe if Mike could draw anything other than stick figures we would’ve stood a chance.” Ashton grumbled.
“And now you see why I always make sure someone else gets stuck with him,” Crystal laughed as she dodged the pen Michael threw at her.
You all laughed as you cleaned up and you went over to the stack of games, contemplating what you wanted to play next. You guys had made your way through a few different games and a few rounds of drinks and honestly you were exhausted. Since moving back home you didn’t hang out with many people other than Lacey and you forgot how much energy it took to be around people. You were tired but it was the best kind of tired.
“Can we just watch a movie now? I’m tired of losing,” MIchael whined from the couch.
“That’s exactly what a sore loser would say,” you shot back.
Michael just smiled and shrugged his shoulders looking at you, “At least I know it, but I so call picking the movie.” He picked up the remote and started searching through Netflix looking for a good comedy that everyone would watch.
“Anyone up for another round?” Ashton asked and you nodded following him into the kitchen to help. It was silent as he rummaged through the alcohol looking for something new to drink. You hopped up on the counter waiting to see what he would make.
“So how have you really been?” he asked, breaking the silence.
You looked up at him, startly by his question and you could see him looking at you intently and knew exactly what he was talking about, or more so who he was talking about.
You chewed on your bottom lip as you contemplated what to tell him. “I’ve been fine.” you answered shortly.
He scoffed at your answer, “Come on Y/N, I know you better than that and as relaxed as you seem, there is still a part of you that is on edge. You ghosted us all when you left and it was like we lost a member of our family. So tell me the truth, how are you really?”
His answer startled you, and you blinked to keep the tears at bay. “Ash I really don’t wanna ruin the night and talk about him. Can we just table it for now and go back in there with Mike and Crystal. I really don't wanna bring the mood down.” You stared back at him and there must’ve been something in your eyes because he dropped it. He handed you a drink and the two of you went back into the other room.
“Hey what were you two talking about?” Crystal asked as you sat next to her on the couch, a knowing look in her eye.
You elbowed her subtly, “Debating if Mikey was gonna pick a shitty movie or not,” you laughed.
“Don’t hate until you see it, it’s a good one you all like.” He pointed to the TV and you saw Shrek was on. “Also you could say thank you I ordered a pizza and it should be here in about 30 minutes.”
“Didn’t you just eat a plate of buffalo chicken dip and mac’n’cheese?”
He shrugged, “If it’s a problem Y/N then you can’t have any.” He stuck his tongue out at you.
You held your hands up in defense “No, no. Just asking, I’m for sure eating that pizza.”
“That’s what I thought,” Michael replied smugly.
You just rolled your eyes at him and sat back to begin the movie. Not even 10 minutes later and there was a knock on the door.
“Y/N since you were so judgy you can go answer the door.”
“Fine, fine. Though you suck at telling time Mikey, this was way less than 30 minutes.”
You got up from the couch and made your way to the door excited that the pizza was here much earlier than anticipated. There was another knock on the door as you were opening it. You froze when you saw who was there.
Luke.
He must not have been expecting you either because he had a dumbfounded look on his face, and his fist was frozen in mid knock.
“Y/N?” he breathed, his eyes boring into yours.
It was silent and you both just stood there and stared at each other. It had been six months since you had seen him and although there were some noticeable changes he was still the same Luke who broke your heart all those months ago. His arms were larger and his shoulders slightly broader. His hair was longer, his roots growing out which somehow suited him more. He had shaved his quarantine beard but the stubble was growing back. His eyes were the same blue that you fell in love with, but they were missing the usual mischievous glint.
“Luke why are you just-” Calum was caught off walking up behind Luke, his face lighting up when he saw you. “Y/N?! What are you doing here? It’s so good to see you!” He squeezed past Luke and pulled you into a tight embrace.
You had no words as you hugged Cal back, you were still in shock at them being here and you couldn’t take your eyes off Luke,
“What the hell is taking so long?” Ashton came around the corner and froze when he saw the new additions to the party. “Oh you guys are early…” he trailed off.
At his statement you felt the rage building in your veins, you pushed Calum off of you turning to Ashton the anger seeping out of you. “I’m sorry what? They’re what Ashton?”
He looked sheepishly at you, “Surprise?” he shrugged his shoulders, with a slight smile on his face.
You couldn’t believe this. It was all a setup. The whole night was a trick for you to see him again when Ashton knew more than anything that it was the last thing you wanted. You were at a loss for words, as much as you wanted to yell, you didn’t have the energy anymore.
“Look we can explain…”
You held your hand up cutting him off, “Don’t Ashton, just don’t. I don’t want to hear it. I’m leaving.”
You stormed into the other room, to get you things. MIchael was trying to look busy but the guilt was written all over his face. Crystal was sitting next to him with her arms crossed glaring at her fiance, she looked up when you walked in.
“I am so sorry Y/N, I had no idea or I would’ve never let them pull this stunt.”
You gave her a weak smile, “I’m just going to get my things and go.”
Michael turned and looked like he was going to say something, but one look from Crystal silenced him.
“Thanks for the fun while it lasted, but please don’t reach out again,” you heard footsteps behind you and knew the others had followed you into the room. “I thought maybe I could be friends with some of you,” you pointedly looked at Luke, “But if this is the shit you are going to pull them I am out. I’m sorry but I cannot go through this again. I just can’t.”
With that you grabbed your bag and all but ran out of the house. As you sat in your car you were thankful that you didn’t have too much to drink and were able to drive yourself home. The thirty minute drive seemed to take forever. All you wanted was your bed and to be distracted by Netflix. After what felt like an eternity you pulled into your driveway and walked into your house. You threw your bag on the table and couldn't believe the night you had. You knew Ashton and Michael had wanted you to talk to Luke when you first broke up, but that was six months ago. You never thought that they would pull this shit tonight. It was almost more painful this time as you realized you had to cut all of them out of your life and not just Luke.
You hadn’t expected to see him tonight and it really messed you up. You had spent the last six month erasing him from your life, as much as you could. You put everything he gave you into a box that was hidden in your basement. You tried to throw it away but it felt wrong somehow. He was too big a part of your life to completely get rid of. Lacey once asked you why you didn’t get rid of it all and you knew she thought it meant you still loved him but that wasn’t it. You just couldn’t bear to part with everything that had once brought you so much happiness. You hadn’t opened the box since you moved back home, as you went downstairs to bring it to the kitchen, you knew it was going to hurt more after seeing him tonight, but you couldn’t stop yourself.
You spent over an hour looking through all the memories the two of you had made during your time together and you were a mess sitting on the floor with tears rolling down your face. Maybe it was from the exhaustion that raked your body or the alcohol that was still in your system but you left the contents of the box sprawled over the island and slipped on his old Nirvana shirt before going to your bed and finally falling asleep.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next thing you knew you were being jolted awake by a banging on your door. You looked at the clock and groaned when you saw it was only 8:00am. Who the hell would be here so early. Hoping it was just a package you rolled back over and tried to fall back asleep, when the person knocked again.
You signed as you rolled out of bed and trudged downstairs in nothing but the old shirt you fell asleep in. Rubbing your eyes as they adjusted to the brightness, you opened the door and had to squint to see who was there.
“Y/N, you uh forgot your phone and I wanted to make sure it got back to you safely.”
You hated that your heart skipped a beat as your name rolled off his lips, your eyes focused on him and the events of last night came back to you instantly.
“Luke.”
You don’t know why you thought things were going to get better. You should’ve known better; you’ve never been able to catch a break, even before all of this happened.
The dreams have been getting worse, and more frequent; now, they’re about the kids too. You’ll be back in those tunnels, the ones crawling with vines, and their voices will bounce against the walls. They’re calling out, desperately crying for you to help them, but they’re never found.
It feels like you run in circles for hours on end, throat going hoarse from screaming their names until you wake, pebbles of sweat dripping from your brow and body frozen in terror.
Those seem to scare you more - the ones about them. Because it’s your duty to protect them, and you’ve come so close to failing so many times.
Those ones never let you sleep; you’re left to lie there until morning, fear bubbling inside that something’s happened while you were asleep, thinking they’re gone now and there’s nothing you could’ve done.
Your brother hears it every time. When your careful footsteps approach his door at those ungodly hours, and the door creaks open just a touch so you can quiet your restless mind; Dustin’s always there, safe and sound underneath the sheets, Tews tucked against his feet.
You’ve done that six times now - he figures he should ask what that’s about. Maybe he’ll bring it up to Steve, see if the older boy knows anything.
But with the town buzzing with holiday cheer, they’ve barely seen you around. Extra shifts at Radio Shack have filled your schedule as the people of Hawkins flock downtown for gifts, especially now that Bob’s no longer there for his usual hours.
Dustin thinks you should take a break while you’re off from school. He can tell that it’s exhausting when you come home and don’t have the energy to return Steve’s call, but you always have the same answer:
“I need to keep myself busy anyways.”
And Steve - he understands the circumstances. But that doesn’t make it hurt less when Dustin has to deflect and apologize on your behalf.
God, you hope it’s not too much on him-
Your mother snaps you from your trance, tapping the phone against your arm before placing it in your hand, “It’s for you.”
You hadn’t even heard it ring. You don’t know how long you’ve been standing here, shoulder pressed to the wall and eyes focused on the evening news.
You answer it with a sigh, “Yeah?” A perky voice flows easily through the receiver, unfazed by your delivery.
“Hey, it’s Stacy, from the dance committee? We’ve got an emergency over here.”
Mike and Lucas thought it might be a good idea for you to help organize and plan the Snow Ball. Since the group of middle schoolers would be attending this year, they wanted your help to ensure that it was the best one thrown yet. You weren’t so keen on the idea, until you remembered how lame it was a few years back when you went.
“I don’t have to come down there, do I? I thought we took care of everything last night.”
The girl nervously laughs on the other end; you can hear the music from the gym echoing in the room. It almost makes it hard to listen.
“Turns out we need three more bottles of soda. Simon only got five. Since you’re the only one with a car-”
“Yeah, of course,” You interrupt, “I’ll grab some and bring it over. Be there in a jif.”
After ending the call, you grab your cash off the counter on your way to the bathroom.
“Hey Dustin, I gotta bolt. Can you find-”
You’re greeted with the sight of your brother, putting the finishing touches on his look for the night - a can of Farrah Fawcett hairspray in one hand. You can’t help the laugh that bursts from you.
“What, Mom buy you that?”
His head snaps to you in an instant, cheeks turning bright red as you lean your weight against the doorframe. The product’s out of sight immediately afterwards, quickly shoved behind his back, “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
Dustin swallows harshly at your squinting eyes, arms folding over your chest as you study him. You decide not to ask.
“Uh huh.”
A few tense, silent moments pass as he waits for you to comment further; he hates that smirk on your face, “Did you, uh, need something?”
You clear your throat, shifting on your feet before replying, “Yeah I gotta get to the school now, can you find another ride? Maybe Mrs. Wheeler can come take you?”
Dustin’s expression grows confused, “What are you talking about? I already have a ride.”
Your brow raises in surprise, “You do.”
He shrugs, “Yeah, Steve’s takin’ me.”
And then it clicks; your grin grows.
“Oh… okay. I’ll see you afterwards then,” You go to grab the door on your way out, but not before adding something else with a wink.
“Don’t worry,” You say, “I won’t tell anyone. And keep this open a touch, yeah? I’d hate for you to suffocate on the fumes.”
The gym’s loud and filled with prepubescent teenagers. You can’t wait to get out of here, back to the comforting security of your home.
That feeling intensifies when you lock eyes with who’s standing behind the punch bowl; you already feel yourself retracting inwards before a conversation even begins.
“I didn’t realize you were coming tonight,” Nancy speaks first, letting a small smile spread over her face as you approach the beverage station.
She seems so much lighter, so much happier since you last saw her. You’re glad that she’s been able to finally move on, even if it is at Steve’s expense. Nobody deserves to be trapped in a relationship they don’t want to be in; you can’t blame her for that. You just wish it hadn’t happened the way it did.
“Oh, I’m not,” You answer, gesturing to the liters of soda you carry in your arms; they’ve started to grow tired from the weight, “I’m just dropping these off.”
Nancy’s expression drops a touch as you place the bottles on the bleachers behind her, “I figured you’d be bringing your brother.”
You brush the condensation off onto your jeans, “No, uh, Steve did that already.”
Confusion is evident as she grows speechless, turning back to face you; the expression she has on her face is enough to explain her emotions - that doesn’t seem like something he’d do.
You laugh at her, “Yeah, I know. Trust me, no one’s more shocked than I am.”
Nancy shakes her head in awe as your back straightens, and she chews on her lip as she debates bringing it up. She decides to.
“Remember when we came to this thing?”
Your eyes move to see her, leaning back against the table, knuckles turning white as she grips the edge. A scoff escapes your mouth as you nod, “How could I forget? Jimmy Hawthorne spilled punch all over my dress twenty minutes in.”
Nancy laughs at the memory, remembering the priceless look on his face as you threatened him, right in the middle of the dance floor, “God, it took my mom all night to get that stain out.”
The silence between you that follows her comment isn’t… uncomfortable. If anything, it’s another step in the right direction. But you still chose to retreat; it’s almost too much, seeing her look at you like that again.
“I guess I’ll see you around, Nance,” You mutter before moving past her, jingling the car keys in between your fingers. All she musters back in response is a wave as she’s swarmed by an incoming gaggle of girls.
The cold air invigorates you as you exit the school building; you don’t know how much longer you could’ve been cooped up in there, surrounded by all the memories. And as you’re making your way to your mother’s car, that’s when you spot him.
“What the hell are you doin’ here?” You raise your voice while you approach, arms crossing over your chest. Steve’s attention is brought up to see you, walking across the parking lot, a lazy smile growing over your rosy cheeks.
“I could ask you the same thing, Henderson,” The corner of Steve’s mouth quirks up as your brow raises at his response, “I asked you first.”
He sighs before running the hem of his sweater between his fingers, “Oh, I figured I should stick around just in case. You never know...”
You snort lightly after Steve allows his sentence to trail off, “Jesus, you’re starting to sound like me. I’m supposed to be the protective one.”
“There are worse things to be,” Steve’s focus is gentle as he watches you come to his side; he’s appreciating every single little detail about this moment.
The snow is just right - there’s enough of it to create a picturesque scene around you. The muffled love ballads that echo from the school make him feel warm in his chest - he thinks about you when he hears them. The streetlights illuminate your face enough for him to notice when the bridge of your nose scrunches at his words, “Aw, I knew it.”
“Knew what?”
“The kids,” You nudge Steve before your gaze drifts to him; your heart skips when you catch him already peering your way, “They’re making you soft, Steven.”
Steve’s grin spreads wider as your laugh fills the space between, rolling his eyes as he falsely acts annoyed by your observation, “Great, just what I need.”
“Oh, also,” Your tone makes him meet your mischievous look, and it ignites a bit of anxiety in him, “Farrah Fawcett, really? You thought I wouldn’t figure that one out?”
Steve grows shocked by your deduction in record time, further spurring on your joy; it almost counter-balances his embarrassment.
“Relax, your secret’s safe with me,” You say, and Steve just shakes his head, “You and your brother are so dead if anyone finds out.”
You bring your fingers to your lips, faking to lock them before throwing the invisible key over your shoulder. And then it hits him - he hasn’t seen you since that night, after the funeral. That night where you almost kissed him.
”Why aren’t you in your car?”
Your words catch him off guard, and he simply shrugs in response, “The snow’s nice, dontcha think?”
“I guess, but Christ, aren’t you cold?” You ask Steve as you shiver and pull your hooded sweatshirt tighter against your frame.
He inhales before going to answer, but he decides that his words aren’t enough. His arm gets extended outwards before he gestures for you to move closer, “Come on, get over here.”
You feel your heart beat in your throat as a misty breath expels itself from you and into the night sky. It’s almost like the air gets thicker the closer you get to Steve, but you can’t stop yourself from tucking your body into his side.
His arm drapes heavily over your shoulder as soon as you’ve settled, and you decide to pull him closer with the limb that would’ve gotten trapped between you. Steve emits a light laugh at the feeling of your arm wrapping around his middle, tugging him in further; you both relish in the heat that emanates from the other.
A few silent moments pass - neither of you has the courage to comment, even though both of your minds are running wild with what to say.
Steve shifts beside you, adjusting his feet against the parking lot pavement. The action prompts you to spin your focus in his direction and you freeze as he does the same - his eyes landing on your gentle expression.
Seeing Steve look at you like that makes you feel like you’re floating - the admiration in his eyes is enough to silence any doubts you had about… well, whatever this is. Your heart thuds against your ribs when he somehow inches even closer and you tighten your hold on him after he does so, hand curling around the material of his sweater.
You want to pull your gaze away from him, because fuck it’s getting to be too much; the way he feels by you side, the way you slid into him to protect yourself from the chilly December evening, the way that neither of you can find any words to describe how you’re feeling.
But then it clicks inside your brains. And maybe, you think, nothing needs to be said at all.
You lean in first, and it doesn’t take Steve much longer to react and do the same. He grows surprised when you pause, mere millimeters away from meeting your lips, brow creasing as your nose brushes his.
Even though you’ve been craving this very moment for about a year, you can’t shake the thought that hovers like a cloud over your psyche. This changes everything. There’s no going back if you continue down this road - it almost makes you afraid, no matter how much you’ve wanted things to be different.
It dissipates quickly, as Steve doesn’t give you much time to ponder; he takes the leap. His lips are pressed to yours. And it’s just like the first time you fell for him - every doubt you’ve ever had about Steve vanishes instantly.
The kiss is so soft and so filled with emotion that you feel like you could cry. His presence is overwhelming your senses and you melt against his palm that slides up your jaw, past where the bruises faded.
You can’t process when your fingers begin to card through his hair, pulling him closer to you because you’re desperate to let him feel everything that’s been churning inside for over a year. You’re still so in love with him that when he finally pulls away, you feel like he took a piece of you with him.
The music starts to fade and your little bubble along with it; you struggle to find something to say.
You don’t know how long you’ve waited to be able to do that. None of your daydreams could have ever compared to this; you’re almost lost in the moment. All of that heartache, all of that pain - it’s finally been released.
Neither of you knows what to do.
But then Steve clears his throat, his thoughts jumbled inside his head because holy shit - he wasn’t expecting it to feel like that.
The silence afterwards is deafening. Your breaths fan against the other’s rose tinted cheeks, still barely inches apart.
“I should uh,” You mutter, fingers trailing down his arms, slowly pulling yourself away from his warmth. You’re suddenly overwhelmed with far too many emotions, all of which you can’t even begin to decipher while standing here in front of him.
Steve grips your hands in his as you lean back; he knows what you’re going to say, but God, he wishes that you didn’t have to.
“I should go,” You finish. It shatters his heart a bit to hear you say it, but he only nods.
“Yeah,” He manages, “I’m sure your mom wants you back.”
You swallow harshly before your touch leaves him completely. Steve can still feel where your fingers were pressed on his palms - it lingers as you turn to leave, and begin your walk to your car.
never would have known | steve harrington x henderson!reader
Tumblr media
REQUESTS USED:
Can I please have a Henderson reader x Steve Harrington where she has been friends with Steve since season 2 and he realizes he's in love with her, confesses his feelings and they get kind of intense/smutty? If you could do that, that would be awesome!!
i has this idea what if Dustin older sister was a rock and roll edgy kind of gal also a baddie. The point is Steve has seen her around in high school because she was a big deal when it comes to fighting and after high school he gets the crushies for her I hope you like that request !❤️
warnings: a little angsty I guess?, kinda steamy at the end
word count: 2.2K
a/n: this took forever so i’m sorry for the first requester mentioned since you requested a while ago, but it’s here! enjoy!
When Steve was falling in love with Dustin’s sister, it took him a while to realize it. It wasn’t an instantaneous, love at first sight type of thing that some people get. But more of something that happened so slowly at first, then it was something that happened to hit him with full force towards the end.
She had been pining after him for so long and was so close to giving up. He had only seen her as one of the kids or as another “nerd” that was associated with the party, she thought she was nothing more than a good, younger friend to him. Her hope had diminished when he got a job at Scoops Ahoy! because of his constant flirtation with any girl that would come in, which was egged on by Robin immensely. Every once in a while, she’d want to give up on him loving her. But then, he’d come in with a sweet comment or caring touch that would make her break again. To her, it seemed like a vicious cycle that would never stop.
To him, it seemed like she didn’t want him, so he kept his distance. Y/N was someone who would speak her mind typically, she wouldn’t let her feelings go unsaid for the most part. In school, he always saw her sticking up for herself or being the bold one to call other girls out. It was intimidating to Steve, but he knew that she would always speak her mind. It was different with him, though. She was scared of the feelings she felt for him, so her bold personality seemed to diminish into something smaller, sometime more timid when with him.
It was a rainy Friday afternoon in June when Steve finally came to his senses. He had picked up Dustin and Y/N from their house and they were on their way towards Indianapolis. Dustin had claimed that there was a comic store downtown and it was the only one in the state that carried a limited edition comic book he had been saving up for. Steve was hesitant at first, but was guilted into it by a very convincing and dramatic Dustin.
Y/N was in the passenger seat with her feet on the dashboard, watching raindrops as they rolled down the window. She seemed to be in her own little world when Steve looked over at her, humming along to the music from the radio.
“Can we stop and get food before we get there?” she asked abruptly.
“No.” Steve replied, glancing over at her to see her shocked expression. “It’s already an hour and a half drive one way, I don’t want this to take longer than it has to.”
“Oh c’mon! It’s just gonna take a second, we can go through a drive-thru or something!” she retorted, looking to Dustin for backup but only getting a shrug in return.
“You should’ve eaten or something before!” he suggested, rolling his eyes at her response. “I don’t want this to be a long ass trip for no reason, Henderson.”
With that, she fell silent. She hated when he called her that, it made her feel like she was nothing more than one of the kids to him. To her, it seemed like he was trying to rub the fact that he didn’t feel the same about her in her face. Dustin and Steve could sense her change in mood as she shifted towards the window, it was obvious there was something more than not getting food on her mind in that moment.
Steve was tempted to make another snide remark about it, but the upset look on her face was already making him feel bad enough. He made eye contact with Dustin through the rear-view mirror, seeing the perplexed and somewhat sympathetic look on his face through the reflection. It was weird for Dustin to see his typically outgoing sister clam up so much, but he knew what was happening; he just wanted to wait for Steve to catch on by himself.
After what seemed like an eternity of silence, Steve decided to cave. Once they were close to the shop, he pulled into a McDonald’s and went towards the drive-thru. The look on Y/N’s face didn’t falter, though, as they pulled through. Steve didn’t bother to ask her what she wanted, he knew exactly what she wanted from the many times the three of them had been through a McDonald’s drive-thru together. Dustin chimed in at one point to add another sandwich to his order, but Y/N stayed silent still.
She slowly ate the ice cream he handed her after mumbling a small ‘thank you’ to him, trying to seem as disinterested as he seemed to be. In reality, he was desperately trying to stay calm even though he wanted to tell her how he really felt.
Dustin rushed into the comic store once Steve stopped, promising he’d be out in ten minutes even though Steve and Y/N knew better than that. The two of them were left alone, only the sound of the radio and the crinkling fast food bag filling the silence. Steve looked over at her momentarily, seeing that she still wore the same sad expression on her face.
“What are you doing this weekend?” Steve asked shyly, trying to fill the desperate silence.
“Nothing exciting, probably staying home with D.” she remarked, a small, bittersweet smile playing on her lip for half a second. “What are your plans?”
“My plans?” he asked, the thought of him going on a date the next day with another girl had slipped his mind before he asked his own question. “Oh, nothing exciting.”
“That’s a lie.” she said bluntly, rolling her eyes at his apparent nervousness. “What are you actually doing this weekend?”
“I—I’m going on a date tonight.” he said, staring at the steering wheel as he spoke. “With Veronica Mitchell.”
“Oh.” she said, trying to hide her hurt behind a tone of carelessness. “She’s fun. I’m sure you’ll have a great night, Harrington.”
Steve felt the words she said begin to sound malicious towards the end of her sentence, her true feeling of annoyance apparent in her voice. He gave her a remorseful smile as she turned her focus back to the fry container in her lap, picking at the ones that were left. Dustin came back soon after, rambling about the new comic book as soon as he got into the car again. His excitement filled the previously silent car on the ride home, but both Y/N and Steve were distracted with thoughts of each other.
That night was no different than any other for Y/N. She was doing exactly what she had told Steve. Sure, it felt a little lame to be sitting on her little brother’s bedroom floor writing down songs for a mixtape for herself, but it was always enjoyable.
“How about Rock You Like a Hurricane? You like that one, don’t you?” Dustin suggested, shrugging his shoulders.
“Yeah, but I put that on the last one I made! I can’t keep doing the—“ she started, but was cut off by the phone ringing in the living room.
Dustin ran to the phone before she could even get up from the floor, as if he was waiting for a phone call. She got up from her spot on the floor and walked towards the living room, hearing her brother talk excitedly. There was no doubt that he was talking to one of the boys from the party and that they were probably inviting him to do something nerdy. She just hoped she didn’t have to be the one to take him. He hung up quickly after getting on the line, a grin on his face as he walked away and back towards his bedroom.
“Where are you going in such a hurry?” she asked, an amused smirk on her face.
“Mike’s! Important shit happening over there, I gotta go now. I’ll ride my bike.” he said, throwing a few things around his room as he packed a backpack.
“Fine, I guess I’ll just be here all alone then.” she joked, making Dustin roll his eyes at her guilt trip.
“Whatever, have fun! On the bright side, you can listen to your rock shit as loud as your little heart desires, since Mom’s out for the night.” Dustin remarked, making her roll her eyes at his response this time as he quickly made his way to the door.
It was a matter of seconds before Y/N was alone in the house, letting out an annoyed sigh at the thought. She was afraid to be alone that night, mainly because she was afraid to be alone with her thoughts and feelings about Steve. So, she did just as Dustin had said, putting her music on as loud as she wanted to drone her thoughts out.
She only heard the knock on the door when the mixtape was between songs, making her stop in her tracks. She wasn’t expecting anyone, so it put her a little on edge. But, she went toward the door anyways because the knocking was incessant. Who she saw in the peephole was not who she expected to see, but it was the person who made her heart flutter the moment she saw. She opened the door hesitantly, hoping he wasn’t there for Dustin.
“Y/N, hey!” he said immediately, running his fingers through his hair nervously. “I—uh—“
“Aren’t you supposed to be on a date, Harrington?” she replied bluntly, raising her eyebrows at him.
“Yeah—Yeah, about that.” he chuckled, rolling his eyes at himself. “I decided not to go.”
“And why’s that?” she implored as she crossed her arms, not letting him into the house just yet.
“Because it felt so wrong, I—I don’t like Veronica Mitchell. I don’t really know why I even asked her out—I’m stupid for doing it and—“
“What’s the point of this? Did you come here to tell me that your standards are too high or do you have something else you needed?”
“Well, I mean. I guess I’m not here to say that specifically. But yeah, my standards are too high.” he responded, earning no response from her as she stood there with a confused look on her face. “Fuck it. I guess what I’m trying to say is that I’ve been oblivious to the fact that I’ve liked you this whole time and that I’ve just been distracting myself from my feelings up until now.”
“Shut up, Steve.” she scoffed, waiting for him to crack a smile and tell her it was some twisted joke. “You can’t be serious.”
“But I am! I really realized that I liked you when we were in the car talking about my date today, I realized that I was so oblivious to myself up until now. If I wouldn’t have seen you so get so—so holed up about me talking about the date with Veronica, I would’ve never known how I really felt.”
“What the hell are you talking about?” she replied, feeling impatient as he rambled on.
“I’m talking about you! I like you! I’ve been too afraid to tell you this whole time.” he exclaimed, a hint of desperation in his voice.
“I don’t believe you.” she said bluntly, rolling her eyes.
“Oh you don’t?” he laughed.
“No! I don’t know how wouldn’t have noticed how I’ve been pining after you for so damn long if you’ve also liked me.” she replied matter-of-factly. “There’s no fucking way! I—I clam up around you, I’m a different person! I’m normally the most confident person when it comes to how I feel and I’m not afraid to fight for what’s right, but with you—with you, it feels different. I become the shyest girl ever when I’m around you.”
“You really don’t believe me?”
“No, Steve. I think this is some sick joke you decided to play on me.”
“Really?” he asked with more sincerity in his voice than before, the look on his face showing his remorse for the way he’d treated her before.
“Yes.” she said, feeling like the conversation was going nowhere. “So unless you’re here to do something about it, I’m gonna go back—“
Before she could finish her thought, Steve’s hand grazed her cheek. There was no aggression or lust in his touch, it was pure and gentle. She felt her breath hitch as she cut herself off, looking up into his eyes. She couldn’t help but get lost in them as she noticed a glint of adoration in them. Without thinking her actions through, she grabbed his hand and pulled him inside. She shut the door behind him and leaned against it, grabbing the back of his neck to pull him into a gentle kiss.
It was a short and sweet kiss, but the ones that followed were not so short. Their bodies flooded with desire as their lips collided, both realizing what they had been missing because of their stubbornness. The heat of the moment built up quickly, as neither of them wanted to move away from the kiss.
“Steve—Steve.” she said quickly after pulling away for a moment.
“What? Did I do something?” Steve asked, eyes going wide as he moved his hands from where they sat on her waist.
“No, no you didn’t do anything wrong.” she laughed, cupping his cheek as he sighed in relief. “Do you want to continue this in my room?”
“I—uh—yeah! I mean, if you want to.” he replied, smiling down at her nervously.
“Just come on.” she giggled, leading him towards her room for what she knew would be a long night.
Coincidences- Aaron Hotchner Imagine
Pairing: Aaron Hotchner x Reader; SVU crossover (kinda)
Word Count: 1.3k
WARNINGS: Basic mentions of death, murder, the likes. Nothing graphic!
A/N: This is just something I’ve been thinking about recently, much like Hotch and his dreamy eyes. It’s a crossover with SVU in theory, but honestly you don’t need to watch the show to read. Let me know if I should make a part two or not!! I love your feedback 💗
You had been working with the BAU team for over a year now. Even within that short period of time, you had grown to love them like family. They reminded you of the slightly-more functional version of the team you left behind in New York.
When you left New York, you made a promise to your friends and family that you would make an effort to take better care of your mental health. Now that’s a little challenging when you’re catching serial killers on a daily basis. Although, these cases tended to have a more satisfying conclusion than the ones you worked on with Special Victims Unit. Neither were ideal, of course.
Garcia had just announced that there was a case, summoning you all to the conference room. You straggled behind the rest of the group, finishing up an email that needed to be sent. You weren’t the only one falling behind the pack, though.
You had noticed that Hotch was in no particular rush to get to the conference room. He looked spaced out, as if his mind was in another place. Aaron Hotchner was no easy man to read, so for you to pick up on his behavior, he must really be distracted.
“After you,” you said, meeting Hotch at the door. He gave you a simply nod and take his seat.
Garcia dispersed the case files and presented what information was available. Three women from Eugene, Oregon had been killed in their homes, while their significant others had been on business trips.
“That can’t be a coincidence,” Morgan remarked.
“There’s no such thing as coincidences. Wheels up in 30,” Hotch sternly spoke, rising from his chair and leaving the room in a hurry.
You looked at Rossi for an explanation. While you prided yourself on being able to communicate openly with your boss, nobody could read Hotch like Rossi.
“It’s been five years since Haley passed.”
“Oh, I didn’t know.”
“Well, he’s not one to share. Take it easy on him this week. No heroics,” Rossi lectured, wagging his finger at you, as had been known to take a few risks.
“I can’t believe you’re saying this to me when Derek is right outside.”
The plane ride to Eugene was pretty typical. Although, you found your eyes fixed on Hotch. You couldn’t help but to sympathize with his pain. It was never easy to lose a loved one, let alone your significant other.
As the case progressed, you recognized the unsub’s patterns and habits. He was a predatory stalker; you just needed to lure him out. Rossi proposed that Prentiss and Morgan play husband and wife for a day or two, just to see if he would attempt to break in.
Reid stayed behind, narrowing down the suspect list, while you, Hotch, Rossi, and JJ staked out the place. You had been partnered with Hotch, which was a relatively common occurrence. There was chemistry between the two of you, a natural bond that with undiscovered origins. You were calm, collected, and logical much like Hotch. You were a little more adventurous, but nowhere near the same level as the rest of the team.
The car was silent, except for the sound of rain pattering against the roof. You were in the driver’s seat, watching the house to see if there was any sign of the unsub. Hotch sat beside you, keeping an eye on the surroundings, a tense grip on his binoculars. One of you would reach for coffee, while the other would take a deep breath and regroup. You repeated this cycle for what felt like an eternity.
At one point you noticed Hotch staring at his phone. You tried to catch a glimpse of what he was looking at without obviously violating his privacy. Finally, you decided it was time to break the silence.
“How are you holding up?”
“I could use another cup of coffee,” he said, tucking is phone back into his suit pocket.
“No, that’s not what I meant. Rossi told me what this week means to you. How are you holding up in that regard?”
He remained silent, staring out at the rainy street. He couldn’t produce an answer no matter how he tried.
“Wanna hear my sob story?” You asked, ready to tell him your biggest secret since joining the BAU.
He simply nodded.
“I lost my fiancé two years ago. Shot in the line of duty. It was his last day before transferring units. A month before our wedding.”
You took a deep breath, mentally preparing to continue with the story. Hotch was quiet, allowing you to finish.
“His name was Mike. Sergeant Mike Dodds,” you mused, “he was the sweetest guy, a big softie, but God, did he know how to play the bad guy. He transferred to SVU because his father wanted him to. Everyone hated him, but I saw something in him. There was this light in his eyes, this fire. It’s what I miss most about him.”
You didn’t realize that you had a tear streaming down your cheek, until Hotch offered you a tissue. You wiped your tears, cursing yourself for being so dramatic. Hotch just reached over and placed his hand on yours, gently reassuring you that he was there.
“I’d tell you it gets easier, but honestly? It just gets...different. You learned to live without them, but those feelings are still there,” his voice was barely audible.
“I came to terms with it a long time ago. He wouldn’t want me wallowing in pity all of the time; he would want me to have a fresh start. Date new people, move to another city, take all the risks- within reason- that I never took before.” Now the rain had captivated you. “I always joked that we should have leave Manhattan and get a big log cabin in the Pacific Northwest. Have a bunch of dogs, maybe a boat, and live amongst the wilderness.” You wiped another tear from your rosy cheek, letting out a giggle, “But instead, I chose to move to humid D.C. and catch serial killers for a living.”
Hotch laughed, taking a sip of his cold coffee. You swore you saw a tear slid down his cheek as well, but you didn’t mention anything. Instead, you two just laughed cathartically for a moment. In that moment, you had forgotten all the pain you suffered before coming to the BAU. There was plenty in your life worth sticking around for. You liked to think Hotch felt the same.
“Y/N,” he broke the laughter, “thank you. Thank you for always bringing your genuine self to every situation, for everything you do for this team...for everything you do for me.”
“It’s a coincidence that we found each other, almost like the universe brought us together.”
“There is no such thing as coincidences,” he replied, shifting in his seat.
You were facing each other now. He had beautiful, brown eyes, you noticed. Even when they were glossy from crying, they were still beautiful. You recognized a light his eyes, one you thought was stolen from you two years ago. For the first time, you saw Hotch as someone other than your stoic boss who needed solved like a puzzle. You saw him as Aaron. Vulnerable, broken, and empathetic Aaron.
If Rossi hadn’t ruined the moment with a radio call, saying they had caught the unsub, then you swore you could’ve kissed him. Your heart was beating out of your chest. You brushed it off as heightened emotions, but you couldn’t shake the feeling. What if the universe did put you and Aaron together? What if it was a sign that you were meant to be each other’s fresh starts?
Emotions (pt. 10)
Billy Hargrove x reader
Summary: Billy reevaluates his relationship, and the both of them spiral.
Word Count: 2009
Chapter 1 • Chp. Masterlist • Chapter 11
Tumblr media
"I can explain!"
"What the fuck was that?!" Billy yelled, freaked out.
"Billy, please calm down." You felt like you almost couldn't breathe. It felt like panic was taking over you and squeezing your heart. You really wanted to cry. What was this feeling? "Please."
He took some deep breathes and pointed at Neil. "How the fuck did you do that?"
"Please don't freak out–"
"Friends don't lie!" He shouted. You could feel your nose beginning to burn and the stinging in your eyes were starting up. "Tell me the truth!"
"Okay. Okay, um, I have powers. Like, like an ability to do something that, um, regular people can't do."
"You telling me that you're some kind of mutant?" He looked at you with an expression that he's never given you.
"No. I'm not a mutant. I was just born like this. My mother had experiments done on her and she died in labor. I, I just came out with my ability."
"And what the fuck is that ability?"
You've never felt this bad about yourself, you don't think. The way he was speaking to you, looking at you. The love of your life was looking at you like a monster. It was almost too much to handle. "Um, I can alter emotions." You squeaked.
"Emotions?" You nodded, and Billy paced around the room and ran his fingers through his hair. What if you were controlling his feelings? You could knock someone out from sleepiness, so you'd be able to do it, right? Was your whole relationship a lie? "Have you ever used that shit on me?"
"Well, once but it was an acci–"
"Get out."
"Billy I–"
"Get out!" You said nothing as you looked at his angry eyes, and walked out. You walked down the street, sobbing uncontrollably. As you walked towards the woods, it began to pour. You walked over to a telephone pole, and tried to think. Hopper's at work. Who else would you call?
It was about a few minutes until Joyce came rushing with her car. You got from the ground where you were sitting, and got into the car. "Jesus y/n you're soaking. Are you okay?"
As you told her everything she took you home and had you take a shower. She got you comfortably seated on your bed and let you listen to the radio that she got you for your birthday. She was the one who decided when your birthday should be, after all. You felt like a burden right now, and you didn't have to tell her anything for her to say that it wasn't any trouble when it came to you.
El saw this, and called Mike, who called everybody else. Jonathan drove everyone there, and soon they piled up in your room to check up on you. Everyone each got their turn to say something, whether it was helpful or not. "I knew he was a fucking piece of shit from the start." Dustin stated as they all looked at you on your bed.
"Yeah, he was a jerk anyways." Lucas said.
"Like, he just speaks out his ass most of the time." Max commented.
"Don't worry five," Mike said. "We got your back."
Jonathan ushered everybody out to talk to you. He sat on your bed while you still laid there in silence. "I called Steve. Maybe he could cheer you up." You nodded. "How're you feeling?"
"Like a monster." You sat up and rubbed your eyes, which were still puffy and red. "I just wanna be normal."
"You are normal." Jonathan said. "You just have something in you that others don't, but you only use it for good. That just makes you a good person."
"I don't want something extra. It doesn't matter how I use it. I'm either a monster or a freak."
"No, you're just y/n. The one who's always happy and nice to jerks. When I look at you, all I see is my friend." You gently smiled at him, and he smiled back.
"I'm here!" Steve said, storming into your room. "Oh my God, that asshat really did it this time." He rushed over to you, grabbing your arms. "You're not hurt, are you? Your face..." He trailed off, trying to get you to laugh at how puffy your face was.
"Yeah, well you look like you just ran a marathon and I'm not even gonna start about your hair, so I wouldn't be talking." The three of you chuckled. "Thanks for being here guys."
"Your welcome!" Dustin called out from the other room.
"Hey, dickhead, way to ruin the mood!" Steve called out.
Just then Hopper walked into the house, and looked around. "Does anyone wanna tell me why my home is a day care center right now?"
Joyce grabbed her keys with Max trailing behind. "Talk to Jonathan. I'm going to take Max to get her stuff. She's sleeping over with everybody else."
"Every– what is happening?!"
As Jonathan and Steve explained everything that happened, Joyce and Max left. When they stormed inside the house, they saw that Billy had just put Neil on the couch. He looked at Joyce. "Who are you?"
"Who am I? I'm a friend of Hopper, and a friend of y/n buster." Joyce crossed her arms and pointed at him. "C'mon Max, get your stuff."
"Where the hell do you think you're going?" Billy took a step towards Max.
"I'm sleeping over at y/n's to make sure she's okay."
"Max, you don't–"
"I know about it all dipfuck!" Max yelled. "About her powers and everything!"
"Yeah!– woah, language." Joyce said.
"Sorry, sorry. It's just cause he, like, really deserves it."
"Well yeah he does deserve it and he is one, but just, y'know."
"Yeah. Totally get it. I'll watch my language next time."
"Max!" Billy yelled, stopping the bickering between the other two. "You knew?!"
"Yeah, I knew. What does that matter? She wouldn't use it for bad things. She's a good person Billy. She's been through enough cra– um, stuff, for her to become, like, a supervillain or something, but she chooses to be nice and better."
"She's admitted to using it on me before though."
"Well did you let her explain the situation?" Joyce asked, causing Billy to fall silent. "Sometimes she gets so full of emotion that it just radiates off of her. She's not used to being so happy, but you wouldn't know that."
"Don't you have kids? You're really okay with them hanging with someone who could toy with them if they wanted to?"
Joyce got close to his face and pushed his shoulder. "I'll have you know that her and her sister were the ones who helped save my son's life. It is not their fault they were born that way, and they just want to be like regular people."
"Her sister..." He trailed off.
El. Billy didn't think about her until now. It actually explained a lot of things. Her lack of speaking fluently. Her shyness. Why she wasn't in school. He thought that she was homeschooled because of past foster parents or something. But it wasn't a foster program. It was a lab. She couldn't even be a kid.
This caused Billy to think differently. He had a soft spot for El, and it made him think about you. You were once like that. You must have struggled to make complete sentences at some point. When he met you, you were pretty shy. You probably didn't know anything about anything in school, and yet somehow caught up and even excelled.
You had to learn everything from the start and work hard because of it, yet you were bullied from it. Unlike El, you didn't really find any die hard friends. You had that one guy, but felt like you couldn't be around his without bothering that girl. And now all Billy did was make you feel a hundred times worse.
"Shit." He muttered.
"Yeah, now you actually start thinking. We're gonna leave you here to think. We gotta go comfort y/n now." Joyce said. "At least Jonathan and Steve are there with her right now."
Steve. He was probably hugging you, maybe making you laugh right now. He could picture the two of you together watching TV as you were snuggled up against him, smiling. And you needed that right now, thanks to Billy. He wasn't the one you were going to right now in your time of need. Damnit.
"Have fun with your guilt asshole." Max flipped him off.
"Max."
"Okay okay. That was the last time, I swear."
As they came back, everybody had situated themselves to where to sleep. All the kids slept in El's room, Hopper insisted Joyce take the bed while he was on the couch, and Steve and Jonathan were on the living room floor, where they had put a bunch of blankets for cushion.
They all let you have your privacy tonight. As you got ready for bed, you grabbed the jean jacket that had been thrown on your chair only a week ago. Billy had forgot it, and when you put it on as a joke, he said that you should have it. That you looked cute in it.
You put it on. It smelled like him, and felt comforting like him. It made you think of the memories you have with him. You could almost feel him brush your hair away from the back of your neck, giving it loving kisses. You could almost smell his cigarettes, when he tried to kiss you, but you were quick enough to dodge it and kiss him on the cheek.
Would any of that have still happened if he had known from the start? Would he had still loved you? Maybe it was really just a lie?
Billy went to his bedroom and opened his bottom drawer. He took out the small teddy bear with a leather jacket on and cigarette in hand, which you called Damien. He opened his top drawer and took out the polaroid pictures of you. Some were just of you smiling, some had the both of you, and some were of you unaware that he was taking pictures. There were also a few naughty polaroids of you, but Billy suddenly felt like he shouldn't be looking at you so exposed, so he put those back.
He laid down on his bed, with the polaroid pictures of you spread out next to him, and with Damien in his arms. He snuggled his head into the bear, and silently cried.
Billy was never really a crier. He would get choked up sometimes when he was being vulnerable with you, but never full on cried. He always had you to make him feel better. You'd clean off the blood from his face, and put some Band-Aids on him. You even bought him a first aid kit for his car. He can almost feel you lean up to kiss his forehead, tracing your thumb over his jaw. He could remember the gentle hugs you gave, so gentle it was almost as if you were afraid to hurt him.
You never messed with his head. If you had then those crappy feelings about himself and his dad would go away, but they never fully did. Even around you, he had some anxiety that he'd mess things up. If you really were controlling him, wouldn't he just have been happy all the time?
It wasn't a lie. You weren't lying.
As you were in your bed and recalled your fond memories with Billy, you decided that this was your fault. You shouldn't have dated in the first place. All you did was drag a good person into your life and issues, and that was selfish of you. Billy would be your one and only love, but you needed to give that up.
As Billy was in his bed and recalled his fond memories with you, he decided that this was his fault. He should have listened more instead of getting angry. All you did was try to be happy with him like a normal couple, and he couldn't see past your flaws. That was selfish of him. You would be his one and only love, and he's not giving that up.
how do you sleep when you lie to me?
summary: reddie soulmate au where when you write on your skin, it’ll show up on your soulmates skin as well so eddie started wearing long sleeves… until one day, he doesn’t.
read it on ao3 here! :]
pairing: richie and eddie
words: 3.3k
warnings: eddie is big dumb, mild angst, mainly pining/fluff, college au, soulmate au, they’re like 19
a/n: i haven’t written in a while so PLEASE bear with me i tried- i also didn’t prooread this yet so ignore typos its 5am :[
Eddie had just drifted to sleep when he felt a faint tingle on his arm; his soulmate writing something.
Sitting up in bed, he rubbed the sleep out of his eyes and turned his head to look at the clock on his desk. “Are you fucking kidding me?” he mutters frustratedly to himself, flopping back down on his bed and curling further into his comforter, trying to be as quiet as he can since Stan was sleeping less than 5 feet away from him in their shared college dorm. “Why the hell is he up at 4 a.m. when we have class in the morning?”
Eddie had always been a light sleeper, so it was at times like this when he was awoken at the ass-crack of dawn, watching silently as Richie wrote on his arm, waiting and hoping for a response; a response Eddie was, quite frankly, too afraid to give him.
It had only been a few days after he turned 18, the age where you can finally start seeing and writing messages on your skin to your soulmate, that Eddie figured out Richie was his soulmate.
It was their senior year of high school and they were sitting in English class, zoning out while as the teacher continued rambling about some summer reading project they were supposed to have done, when Eddie felt it. He was wearing a sweatshirt, so he lifted the sleeve a little, watching as his soulmate started doodling what looked like an intricate rose.
He smiled as he watched for a few minutes, thinking the flower was beautiful, and moved to tap Richie on the arm to show him the design but paused as soon as he started. His breath hitched as he looked over his shoulder and saw Richie drawing a rose on his arm. The exact same rose that was currently being drawn on Eddie’s.
Up until that point, Eddie had never written a message back to his soulmate, afraid of saying something stupid, and after figuring out it was Richie, he knew he could never write anything back at all. At least not until he figured out what the hell he could say to him because, in reality, what was he supposed to say to his best friend that has shown no romantic interest in him before? ‘Hey, Richie, it’s me, Eddie. I know you’ve said a thousand times that being around me makes you nauseous because I constantly smell like my mom’s cheap perfume, but maybe that’s karma because we’re kinda soulmates. Life comes at you fast, huh?” Absolutely not.
Not only could Eddie not convince himself to tell Richie, but neither could the rest of the Losers. Not Bill, who sat Eddie down and held an impromptu intervention with Mike after Richie had come to them a hundred times, crying about how his soulmate probably hates him already since they never respond to him. Not Stan, who nearly decked him in the face for running away when he was given the perfect opportunity to fess up when Richie asked him why he had drawn the exact same smiley face he had on his hand. And not Beverly or Ben, who cornered and sat him down just last week after his last lecture of the day, telling him it had been almost a year since he found out and had yet to talk to Richie.
Now here he was, lying in bed at 4 in the morning, curling tightly into his comforter as he tried to ignore the guilt he felt in the pit of his stomach and watching Richie write what was probably the fourth message he had gotten today.
I’m sorry if I’ve been annoying you for the past year. Part of me hopes I’ve been writing on the wrong arm this whole time and you’re just not right-handed, but I know that isn’t really it. Just please say something, anything, so I at least know you’re out there and I’ll stop. I promise.
More than half of his forearm had been covered. He could only read over the message once, feeling tears well up in his eyes before shoving his arm back under his blanket and shutting his eyes as tightly as he could. He hated that he was hurting him, but he was scared. He was so scared. Scared that Richie would hate him by now. Scared that Richie didn’t return the same feelings for him that he’s had since freshman year. Scared that this will ruin their friendship if Richie doesn’t. He’s so scared.
“Eddie, it’s the middle of September. It’s like 600 degrees outside. Why the fuck are you wearing a jacket?” Richie asks, furrowing his eyes brows and staring at the smaller boy in front of him, his head slightly tilted as he waited for an answer.
After locking the door to his and Stan’s dorm, Eddie pushes past Richie, nearly knocking the boy over, and throws his backpack over his shoulder as he leads them down the hall and out of the building. This is what they always did. Richie woke up early, got dressed, walked to Eddie’s room, and waited for him outside so they could walk to class together. That’s what best friends do, right? “Because I’m cold, Richie, why else would I wear a jacket, dumbass?” he retorted, tugging the jacket tighter over his body. Ever since Eddie started wearing long sleeves around him, Richie asked the same thing all the time, and got the same response every time. Only this time, it really did feel like it was about 600 degrees outside, and Eddie could already feel his forehead start to get damp as they walked, yet he had no intentions of removing the jacket.
“Whatever, weird ass. I feel like I’m fucking melting out here, and you’re still dressing like there’s a blizzard barreling down on us. Are you okay?” Richie asked, his previously sarcastic tone of voice turning to one of genuine concern, catching Eddie completely off-guard with how fast he switched up.
“Y-yeah. I’m okay. Just been feeling weird. I’m fine, though,” Eddie tumbled over his words, keeping his eyes on his feet as they walked. “I didn’t get to ask you earlier, but how was the trip?” he asked, peering up to meet the same pair of concerned eyes he had been avoiding the entire walk. Over the weekend, Richie was forced to go to some art museum two hours away with his class for an exhibit, and instead of making it a day trip, they left Saturday morning and didn’t return until Sunday afternoon.
Richie knew good and well that Eddie wasn’t as okay as he was telling him, but they were best friends. He told Eddie everything and Eddie told him everything too. If he wanted him to know, he would tell him. Why would this be any different? “It was alright. Kind of boring, but it was required. I know it was only one weekend, but I missed you,” Richie replied nonchalantly, shoving his hands in his pockets. It wasn’t until a few moments later that he realized what he’d said, and frantically tried to backtrack and save himself. “You guys. I-i missed you guys. You know… it was weird not hanging out with you all. Like... all of you. Not just one,” he chuckled awkwardly, rubbing the nape of his neck, and Eddie noticed a faint red tint had taken to his cheeks that couldn’t have been from the heat.
“Yeah…y-yeah. I got it,” Eddie stuttered back, feeling like the combined heat the jacket and the heat from his own cheeks were about to suffocate him. “I bet it was. Didn’t have anyone to fuck around with and call ‘itty bitty Ewok” the whole time you were there.”
This pulled a loud laugh from Richie, who completely stopped in his tracks to grab his chest dramatically at the nickname he had coined for Eddie. “Come on, Eds, if anything you missed me calling you that,” he replied in-between chuckles, wiping a single tear from his eye.
“Fuck you, Richie, you already know I’m insecure about my height and Ewoks are actually pretty badass. They could kick your ass in a heartbeat just like I ca-” Eddie stops himself, sighing and shaking his head as Richie had only been probed to laugh harder. “Fuck you,” he spat, squinting his eyes at the other boy before speed walking ahead. However, he didn’t get very far before he felt himself being tugged backwards into a hard chest.
“I’m sorry, Eddie. I was just kidding, I promise,” Richie grinned down at him, though Eddie wasn’t paying much attention to what he was saying. What he was paying attention to, though, was the hand on his waist that was pressing him firmly against Richie’s body, only separated by his backpack. “Forgive me?” Richie whispered, leaning right down to Eddie’s ear and making him shudder a bit at the feeling of his breath fanning his skin.
“Whatever,” Eddie breathed out, shoving Richie away and fixing his bag on his shoulder, continuing to walk ahead as he heard Richie continuing to chuckle behind him.
They walked in silence for a few more minutes, getting closer and closer to their classroom building before they finally arrived. It wasn’t until Eddie pulled the door open and held it for Richie that he spoke again.
“Is that something your soulmate wrote?” Richie asked, pointing to the marks peeking out from Eddie’s jacket that had slightly risen up on his arm as they walked inside.
At the question, Eddie’s eyes widened, and he immediately pulled the fabric of his sleeve down, averting his eyes from his best friend. “Yeah… yeah, it’s nothing important. Just a doodle or something,” he mumbled, shrugging his shoulders and silently praying that Richie would accept his answer and change the subject.
“Must be nice. I don’t know what I did to my soulmate or--or if I even fucking have one at this point, but I can never get a response. I’m starting to think that maybe I should just…give up? I mean it’s almost been a year now and all I’ve gotten is radio silence. I can’t keep begging for nothing, you know?” Richie asks, looking over at Eddie with dark, heavy eyes as he finished. His shoulders were slumped in defeat and his head hung a little lower as he walked.
“Yeah. I-I’m sorry, Richie. You don’t deserve that… you really don’t,” Eddie replied, fidgeting nervously with backpack straps and quickly glancing at Richie before focusing back on the ground and walking into the classroom.
He hadn’t been lying. After a while, the messages on Eddie’s arm started coming in slower and slower before stopping altogether.
There were times when he thought Richie had started trying again, feeling the familiar tingle on his arm, only to look down and see a grocery list or a homework reminder.
By now, it had been nearly two months and there hadn’t been a single message from Richie for him to read. Richie had also become a little quieter when they all hung out. Acting a little out of character for his usual self, and the entire group noticed. They also knew Eddie was the one that could fix it, and they’d threatened him at least 3 times this week to tell Richie before they did. To say he felt guilty was an understatement. He didn’t think it would come to Richie completely giving up he just¾he just needed more time, was all. More time to come up with something to say to him.
Eddie was just about to sit down and start on his homework when he felt it again. Writing on his arm.
Study group for comp sci in library @ 6
He stared at the note on his arm for a few minutes before looking at the time on his laptop. It was 3:45 now, so he only had a little bit of time to decide if he would show up or not. This was the first time Richie had written a complete sentence, whether it was for him or not, let alone with something as specific as his afternoon plans. It would be the perfect time to reveal himself to Richie, but he couldn’t help but doubt himself. “Jesus fuck, I’m gonna need a Xanax after this,” he muttered to himself hiding his face in his hands and exhaling loudly.
It was currently 7:30pm and Eddie was standing outside of the library entrance, looking like an absolute idiot. He had gotten to the library over 30 minutes ago, but every time he made the move to walk inside, he walked right back out.
He peered through the glass doors of the library entrance and saw Richie packing up his bags at a table in the back corner of the bottom floor and waving goodbye to a few other students. Panic started to rise in him because it was literally now or never, and he didn’t even use his time standing around outside, let alone the entire year he’s kept this secret, to think of what the hell he’s supposed to say when he walks up to him.
His body starts moving before his mind can get it to stop, and he suddenly finds himself pushing through the front doors and walking right up to Richie, who was seconds away from leaving.
“Hey, Richie,” Eddie called as he neared the table, internally cringing at how awkward and nervous he sounded. Richie looked up from shoving his last book into his backpack, his eyes widening in surprise and his mouth opening to say something before Eddie cut him off. “H-how did your study group go?”
“How did you know I had a study group? I never mentioned it to…” Richie trailed off mid-sentence as he took in Eddie’s appearance. He was shifting nervously from one foot to the other. A faint blush was set on his cheeks, tinting them a pretty pink color over his freckles, and he was completely avoiding Richie’s eyes. Other than that, there was nothing significantly different about Eddie that caught him off guard; that is, until he noticed Eddie’s shirt. For once, he wasn’t wearing anything long-sleeved, and Richie noticed a few familiar scribbles on Eddie’s arm from afar.
Stepping away from the table, Richie started moving closer to the other boy and Eddie felt like he couldn’t breathe. He stood completely still, frozen in place, as Richie stopped right in front of him and took his arm in his hand, holding it up so he could read what was written.
“Study group for comp sci in library at 6,” Richie read out loud quietly before looking up and meeting Eddie’s eyes, causing Eddie to meet his gaze for the first time. They were both silent for no more than 3 minutes, but it felt like an eternity. Eddie was still barely breathing, waiting for Richie to react, and Richie was looking at the message on Eddie’s arm again that was identical to his as if everything was hitting him at once.
Eddie had just looked away from Richie’s face when he spoke up again.
“Why?” he asked, his voice laced with a mixture of hurt and desperation. “W-why would you …hide this from me for so long, Eddie?”
When Eddie looked up, he realized just how upset Richie really was. His eyes had already begun to water, and he knew he was completely overwhelmed with the situation. He felt terrible once again; not that he didn’t deserve to. “Richie, I-”
“Do you realize how hard I tried? Eddie, I didn’t even know if there was someone out there or not. I-I waited so long hoping to get a response, and you--you were there the entire time? You knew the entire time?” Richie cut him off, looking like he had been completely defeated.
“I-I’m sorry. I just- I didn’t know how you would react. You’ve never shown any real interest in me and I didn’t want to ruin anything I-I was just scared of… of losing you,” he replied, feeling his own tears start to slip down his cheeks. “I know I’m the fucking worst and I had so much time to say something but I couldn’t-”
“Are you fucking kidding me, Eddie? Like are you bullshitting me right now? This entire time, you haven’t stopped to think even once that I might have feelings for you? That I might have been in love with you since we were prepubescent 13 year-olds in high school? Not once?” Richie continued, shooting questions at Eddie every chance he could. “Not when I asked you to prom senior year, even if I did try to play it off as a friend thing? Not when I kissed you that one time when we went to the drive-in? Or not even now when I wake up early every morning to walk you to class, even when I don’t have the same classes? Not once?”
Eddie was speechless. Absolutely speechless for at least 2 minutes before his mind finally started working again after that confession. “I really am sorry, Rich, I know I should’ve said something a long ass time ago I was being stupid… I had no idea you felt that way, but I-I feel the same,” he replied nervously, peering up at Richie through his eyelashes, his bottom lip between his teeth. “And to be fair, you told me the kiss was accidental and that you only did it because you were trying to wipe butter off of my lip and slipped-”
But he’s cut off when he feels a pair of lips against his, and he barely has time to react before Richie’s pulling him closer against his chest and deepening the kiss. Eddie feels like his entire body is fire, and even though they’re kissing in the middle of the library, it feels like they’re the only people in the room, as cheesy as that sounds. It was a fairly chaste kiss, but it was desperate and needy, something they’ve both wanted for years, and they were both breathless when they pulled apart.
Eddie’s lips were red and a bit plumper, and when Richie’s eyes flickered down to them and noticed, he couldn’t help but pull Eddie in for another quick kiss.
“That one wasn’t an accident,” Richie finally spoke after a few moments of them trying to catch their breath, his voice barely above a whisper.
“You’re such an idiot,” Eddie chuckled breathlessly. He felt like a thousand weights had been lifted off his shoulders. His insides felt like jelly, like he couldn’t believe that had just happened, but it felt good. He felt good.
“Yeah? Says the one that kept being my soulmate away from me for an entire fucking year,” Richie countered, squeezing Eddie’s hip and making his breath hitch.
“Not an entire year just…close,” Eddie murmured under his breath, hiding his face in Richie’s neck.
“Too long,” Richie replied, his voice slightly muffled as he pressed his lips against the side of Eddie’s face.
“M’sorry,” Eddie responded, which he’d probably said a thousand times tonight. But he meant it. He meant it every single time.
“I know. I’m just glad you’re here now,” Richie sighed in content. Of course, they’d talk more about the situation later, but for now he was just happy he had found out who his soulmate was. Even better, it was Eddie.
Eddie knew it too. Knew he’d have a lot more explaining to do, and a lot more apologizing to do, but for now he wanted to stay just like this for a little while longer because he wasn’t afraid anymore. He didn’t have to be; he never had to be, and he wished he could’ve convinced himself of that earlier because being in Richie’s arms felt like the safest place he’d ever been in his life.
Mistakes & Regrets IX
Tumblr media
Summary: When a trip to your Dad’s hometown of Hawkins goes wrong, you end up in the year 1983, and have to learn how to cope with being stuck in the past.
Pairing: Steve Harrington / Future!Reader (like, a really slow burn)
Warnings: Swearing, (Italics are memories when they’re in bulk, but if it’s one line it’s a thought!)
A/n: Yes I know, a bit of a confusing chapter, I will clear it up as the story goes on.
•••
“Okay, so, in this example,” Mike pointed to the paper he’d drawn on in red pen, of a line, like a tightrope, with a stick figure and a crapily drawn bug. “We’re the acrobat, Will, Barbara, that monster and you are this flea.” the dark haired child told you, pointing to the paper. “And this is the Upside Down, where you hid, and where Will is hiding. Mr Clark said the only way to get there is through a rip through time and space, that’s how you got there, even though you’re from the future.”
You nodded without much though, brows furrowed. You didn’t expect such a detailed lecture from a twelve year old, yet, here you were.
“Caused by a gate.” Dustin added.
“That we tracked to Hawkins lab.”
“With our compasses.”
You nodded again. “That would make sense. . . It would probably have a stronger electromagnetic field than the north pole, so the needle would point you to the gate.” You weren’t good in science class, but you did still know things.
“Exactly!” Dustin explained. “See, guys!” He told his friends, gesturing to you. “Even the time traveling weirdo knew!”
“This gate underground?” Hopper asked.
The girl, who’s name you learned was Eleven, looked to Hopper with a blank expression. “Yes.”
“Near a large water tank?” He asked again.
Her answer was the same. “How did you know all that?” Dustin questioned.
“He’s seen it.”
You looked to your grandmother who’s grip on your hands tightened as she began to speak to Eleven. “Is there any way that you could. . . that you could reach Will? That you could talk to him in this-”
“The Upside Down.” Eleven corrected.
You knew that Joyce was holding onto you so tightly because you were her granddaughter, and just a kid, but you also resembled her son in many ways.
“Down. Yeah.” Joyce whispered.
“She did it with me. . . When I was there. I saw her.” You told them. “She saw me too.”
“I didn’t do that.”
•••
What were you supposed to be thinking about while emptying a bag full of salt into the large kiddie pool with Hopper and Jonathan? That this was normal? That any of it had you feeling like you were perfectly sane. You felt like you were losing your mind.
Maybe you were. Maybe you were really in 1983, but you’d imagined what that boy had said to you. That you imagined that entire scenario of buying a kid water balloons. Maybe you never did see Eleven in the Upside Down, as the middle schoolers liked to call it. But she remembered you too.
Maybe you weren’t crazy. Maybe you were just. . . having a fever dream. That had to be it, right?
No, this was real, you were just trying to deny it, find any semblance of hope that you weren’t really there, filling up a kiddie pool with salt that Hawkins used for the roads.
There was no explanation for how you could have possibly seen that boy in August, even though you didn’t show up in 1983 until September 5th. There was no explanation as to how you could have seen Eleven in that place, when she wasn’t the one who made it happen.
But now you could clearly remember quite a few moments where things didn’t seem to add up in Hawkins. Like how you’d been walking with your dads and your brother, and stopped at the crosswalk with two girls who didn’t seem to know what personal space was, talking about Madonna as if she was new. Their clothing way out of date, with a pair of Levi’s, and , but you were never one to judge.
But maybe they were talking about Madonna as if she was new, because she was to them. There were so many ‘maybes’ that you could dwell on, theorize over, analyze like you were good at, but that was exhausting. You’d barely eaten that day, just two donuts and a coffee and that was earlier in the day, it was late now, you were tired, and wanted to sit in the shower.
The realizations just kept coming to you, though. Memories of being in Hawkins and seeing people who were out of place, or like the time you’d gone to a cafe with your family in what your dad used to be the arcade he always went to as a kid, and you’d blinked once after getting your smoothie, and the entire cafe was replaced with arcade games and children happily playing them before you blinked again and you were back in the cafe.
The same happened when you’d been walking around Hawkins the afternoon before the incident in the restaurant that made you run off, and end up in that place. You’d been minding your own business when it happened, once again, you blinked, and everything was slightly different, hazy, yet clear. It looked like 1980’s Hawkins instead of the one you’d been in.
Pulling the empty bag away from the kiddie pool, you tossed it onto the floor and looked at Joyce who nodded a bit, holding the goggles you’d found in a science lab that Joyce covered in duct tape to make it dark for Eleven.
You then looked to Dustin who lowered an egg into the kiddie pool, and to your relief, it floated. “Okay, Kid, let’s get you in.” Eleven nodded a bit, taking the watch off of her wrist and handing it to Mike who put it on his wrist. Joyce handed her the goggles. Grabbing onto Eleven’s hand, you helped her into the pool while everyone surrounded the pool, watching as she lowered herself down to float in the salt water.
Joyce took your hand, holding it in her own. Her spare steadying Eleven in the water while your spare reached out for the girl’s hand, which she grabbed onto and held tightly in her’s.
“Barbara?” Eleven questioned. Your eyes looked to Nancy whose gaze was focused on the twelve year old female.
“Is Barb okay? Is she okay?”
You gave Eleven’s hand a gentle squeeze, the kind your Pa taught you how to do. She squeezed your hand back but didn’t relinquish her grasp, which told you something was wrong.
“Gone. Gone! Gone!” Joyce released your hand and grabbed onto her shoulders while Hopper grabbed the girl’s other hand.
“It’s okay. It’s okay. It’s okay.” Joyce kept repeating while Eleven calmed down. But Nancy wasn’t calm, instead holding back tears of her own while Jonathan held her.
“Castle Byers. Will?”
Your ears perked up, and so did Joyce’s. “Tell him. Tell him I’m coming, Mom is coming.”
From the walkie that you’d brought and placed on the medal cart holding the bags of salt you could hear his voice “Hurry”
•••
“Hey, Pa, Look at this!” Daniel said excitedly, holding out his phone for Pa to see the new high score on Tetris.
“Kid, I can't, I’m driving.” Pa reminded, gesturing to the empty road. You were close to Dad’s hometown now. Hawkins, Indiana a small town in northern Indiana, but not anywhere close to Lake Michigan.
“Yeah, Danny, Pa’s driving.” You told him matteraffactly with a smile. You were the older sibling, it was your job to antagonize your little brother.
“Shut up!”
“Daniel!” Dad scolded, turning to face the two of you from the passenger seat of the Chevy. His usually soft and kind eyes, clearly annoyed with how the two of you had been treating each other the entire trip. “Stop telling your sister to shut up all the time. It’s rude, and annoying.”
You chuckled a bit and the tip of Dad’s pointer finger was facing you, causing you to just smile brightly at him, thoroughly amused.
“Will, c’mon, you know her ‘fear sensor’ is broken. Remember when Danny threatened her with a fork?”
You chuckled again and Dad just sighed at the memory, turning back to face the windshield. You’d all gotten back getting fast food, Daniel ordered boneless wings, and it came with a plastic fork. You’d said something to annoy him, and flat out, in front of your fathers, Danny threatened to stab you with it. To which you responded ‘Do it, Punk.’ You weren’t scared of your brother.
The car grew quiet except for the music playing on the radio, which quickly turned to mostly static, which drew everyone’s attention. “Can I connect my phone?” You asked, holding up the device.
“Uh. . . yeah, yeah sure.” Dad told you.
“What? Why can’t I ever connect mine?” Daniel demanded. Offended that on the way to Indiana only you and your parents had played things from your phones.
“Because we actually have good music!” You shot back.
“What? Mine’s way better!”
“Dubstep isn’t music, asshole!”
“Hey!” Pa and Dad both shouted at the same time, Dad holding the cord out to you to connect your phone, and the moment you reached for it, the static shifted a bit.
“August fifth 1985-”
Your dad reached to the volume knob, turning it to the right to turn it up, amplifying the static female voice over the airwaves.
“September- Castle by-”
“Dad?”
“Sh!” Dad told Daniel. Your brother’s hand found your own on the center seat while the two of you watched your Dad staring at the radio intently while Pa stole frequent glances to his husband while still trying to keep an eye on the road.
“I’m sorry- Mist-”
“Will? Babe, what’s wrong?” Pa asked. He was freaking all of you out a bit with how intently he was listening to the familiar voice.
“Sh!” He repeated, stunning you all into permanent silence.
“No word for- Explainat- Ste-”
The radio went back to normal, and you saw the unreadable expression on your dad’s face and he leaned back into his seat, eyes still on the radio as Ed Sheeran’s name came across the screen, as well as the name of the song.
“Dad? What was that?”
He stayed silent.
“You know, Sweetheart, sometimes when we’re in a lower area than before, the signal doesn’t reach us as well. . . It kinda changes between two stations.” Pa tried to reason, his hand holding Dad’s as he continued driving.
“Yeah. . . Right.” You agreed, though you weren’t convinced, something about it wasn’t right.
•••
“Name please? Your full name.”
Looking up from the iron tabletop you met eyes with the man who had a few papers sprawled around on his side of the table, a fountain pen at the ready to write.
You hesitate for a moment. “Y/n Byers L/n.”
Everything was too much, trying to process how Joyce and Hopper left you, Nancy and Jonathan with the kids, and then Nancy and Jonathan left which resulted in all of this. The trauma of holding Mike in your arms as tight as your could on the ground as if he was your own brother while Eleven and that. . . thing both died.
You remembered his tears and how he clutched onto your shirt in that seventh grade science class classroom, his heat against your chest while you tried to soothe him. You remembered how Dustin and Lucas came to you for comfort as well.
“Year of birth?”
“2004.” You relayed blankly. The sounds of Mike’s muffled sobbing echoing around in her head while you sat in front of the government official.
“Home residence?”
“425 Culpepper Lane, Weehawken, New Jersey.” The voice that you’d heard while running with Eleven in your arms also still echoing.
‘Today is just another day of trying to get by without her.’
It was your brother’s voice. But not as high pitched, or squeaky.
He asked your age. “Fifteen.” Was your response, looking down at your hands, where Eleven’s dried blood was smeared over your palm when you wiped it away from her nose. It was caked into your skin.
“Alright Miss Byers, correct me on anything I might have wrong. Y/n Byers L/n born 2004 aged fifteen, raised at the address of 425 Culpepper Lane in Weehawken, New Jersey?” You nodded a bit and looked back up at him,
“Biological daughter of William Byers?” He asked. once again, you nodded.
“Alright, Miss Byers, we need to go over a few more things.” He told you, taking out a large file and placing it on the table in front of you.
“LIke?”
“How your new life will look. Unfortunately, we can’t get you back home to your time, we’ll help you build a new life here. We’ll give you a birth certificate, emancipation papers, and we’ll give you a monthly stipend for however much minimum wage is where you’re from.” He told you, taking out a calculator from the folder, ready to calculate how much you’d be getting from them. “How much is it per hour?”
“Like, ten dollars.” You shrugged a bit. Now not only trying to process the sobbing and tears that had stained your shirt and the girl who had disappeared before your eyes, probably dead, but now you had to process that the government was going to try and buy your silence.
“Ten dollars?” He questioned, looking up at you from the calculator. “That’s outrageous!”
You tilted your head a bit, brows furrowed and jaw clenched. “Yeah, out of everything about my life so far, the most outrageous thing is the minimum wage in New Jersey as of late 2019. Inflation’s a bit of a bitch, isn’t it?”
The man’s pale skin went flush, as if he just remembered who he was talking to. That you weren’t just an adult he was negotiating with, but that you were a fifteen year old girl who wouldn’t see the world like you knew it for another 36 years, where, biological, you’d be a fifty-one year old woman who lived her entire life in the past, instead of the fifteen year old girl who had her entire future in front of her.
“I apologize. . .” He spoke, typing into the device and then taking out a check book and uncapping his fountain pen, writing down on the small rectangular paper. Ripping it off, he handed it to you.
You just stared at the check for a moment before reluctantly taking it from him. Holding
it between your thumb and index finger, staring down at the beige paper without much thought, your vision not focused on anything in particular on the sheet.
“We’ll have you moved into an apartment by the end of next week, and pay for rent for the first few months. We’ll give you a budget for furniture,-”
You began to zone him out, going back to a few hours prior. How when Eleven threw Mike back he landed against the cabinets. You were by his side in an instant, holding him while everyone watched in shock as Eleven sacrificed herself.
Even twenty minutes after it was all over, you still held him on the linoleum floor listening to his crying while he held onto you for dear life. To him, you were a stranger, yet he trusted you enough to cry in your arms. A twelve year old version of your Uncle Mike, who you knew well. But you barely knew this boy. He was just a kid. He wasn’t the man guy you knew as your Uncle Mike yet. He was just a scared and sad kid.
“Miss. Byers.”
You looked up snapped out of your train of thought, meeting the ice blue eyes that the men held. “You’ll be going by Y/n L/n, only. Byers is no longer your name. And you have to stay quiet about all this. We’ll talking to Mr. Sinclair, Henderson, and Wheeler, as well as Mrs. Byers and her son. We’ll speak with the chief as well as Miss Wheeler. No one can know you’re from the future. Or anything that’s happened due to Hawkins lab. We need you to sign this NDA. You can never speak about this again. Is that understood?” His question was assertive as he put the fountain pen in your hand.
“Okay.” It was a whisper, but he understood it while you signed the papers, handing them back to him.
“You and the Byers boy will come to the lab periodically to get checked up, mentally and physically-”
“Excuse me?” You questioned, tilting your head a bit.
He cleared his throat, “You and William were in that place for extended periods of time. And we’re concerned about your health. The atmosphere there was toxic. We’re afraid that it could affect your long term health. Especially yours. How long were you there exactly.”
“A while.” You started recounting the amount of times the hands on your watch went by. “A month? Maybe?”
His face shifted as he stared at you, before writing something down on his paper. You could remember how many times you’d counted after the Demogorgon busted its way out of the wall in the middle school. You could remember plenty about it now. How you’d take a few sips of water from your water bottle to make sure you were at least a bit hydrated, but you were conserving it.
You’d always retained a bit of your baby fat from being an infant, but you’d crawled out of that place without any of it, and your baby face was practically gone. Cheeks a bit sunken in, barely noticeable, but you’d noticed it. You’d also noticed how you could see the bump where your ribcage ended without having to stretch up. You didn’t look like you. You didn’t look like the little girl who ran around the house while either your pa or dad chased after you. You didn’t look like the kid who you’d seen in the mirror the morning you called yourself an expensive disappointment. Now you supposed you were an expensive missing disappointment.
“Alright Miss L/n. Send in Henderson when you leave.” He gestured to the door. It didn’t seem right, everything about it was slightly off as you stood from the chair, grabbing your bag and leaving the room into the brightly lit hospital hallway.
“Dustin.” You called to the waiting room, seeing the curly haired boy look up at you in curiosity before seeing you gesture to the door with your head. He got up and went in.
•••
You were sitting on the floor, your back against the wall and your walkman playing Queen at full volume. You needed it. It was the only thing keeping you sane while the boys were with Jonathan, Joyce and Will.
You’d sat with the boys before they were able to go back. Being the emotional support that the three needed. Even if their parents were there, they’d never understand what the boys went through. You did, and you’d be there for them as best as you could.
But the moment they left, and Nancy and her mother had gone to get something to eat, you’d gotten up and went over to the vending machine, which refused to work. So you’d opted for the ridiculous look of having your walkman clipped to the collar of your hoodie, hair a mess and dark bags under your eyes, a scowl on your face.
Eyes closed you just listened to Freddie Mercury’s voice, your foot tapping to the guitar rift. And even though you were completely absorbed into your music, you weren’t oblivious the feeling of someone standing next to you before sitting down.
Opening your eyes you turned your head to see Steve sitting next to you. His face bruised and a few cuts from how harshly Jonathan had punched him. But you were pretty sure the small one by the crease of his nostril was from you.
You pulled the headset off of you ears and stared at him while he said nothing, the music now being heard by both of you.
“I’m a giant prick, huh?” It made you smile a bit, tilting your head in confusion as he turned his head to look at you, eyes soft. “I mean- I fucked up. I over reacted over Jonathan and Nancy, I’m. . . I’m sorry that I was mean to you.”
You shrugged a bit, keeping quiet which left him confused. You always had something to say to him, always was quick to playfully insult him, or give a come back, you usually said something witty to keep up the banter and conversations.
“Y/n, you gotta give me something to work with, I don’t know how to talk to you right now. You look like you want to equally cry and punch me again.”
“I don’t wanna punch you.” You finally said, turning your head back to where the wall and ceiling met in front of you. “Just a bad day overall. I mean, i go to very early this morning, like two am, and then Jonathan had the fucking audacity to wake me up at seven. And then you and your shit-stirrer friends pissed me off, I bruised my hand.” He said, lifting up the fist you’d used to punch him, maybe a bit too hard. “Got arrested, only ate two donuts in the morning, then I. . . deal with a lot of mind-fucking bullshit, then I filled a kiddie pool with salt. Fucking salt. It wasn’t even really a kiddie, it was giant. And then! Oh and then, I ate a fucking can of choclate pudding! I hate pudding! I was just hungry! And then I held a twelve year old in my arms in a empty science class while he cried.”
Steve stared at you, seeing the stress that had been put on your shoulders throughout the entire day. He didn’t know what to say. What was there to be said? You were trying to cope with something, and he couldn’t see what it was.
“Yeah, that. . . sucks.” Was all he could say but it got a frustrated and annoyed groan out of you.
“Yikes! Just say yikes! Or if it’s really bad ‘big yikes!’” You’d said it so many times back to back that it didn’t sound like a real word to you.
But Steve found it interesting while he stared at you, examining the way the hoodie fell around your silhouette, and the ridiculous way you had your walkman clipped right under your neck. The pink medal being a very stark contrast to what you were wearing
“Yikes.” He repeated with a smile.
A brief grin came across your face as he said it.
“So, we’re still friends?” He asked, sitting up straight and turning his whole body to face you, his legs crossed like a kindergartener on the class carpet, in his own colored square.
“We were friends before?” You asked teasingly, doing the same to face him, and like you were as a kindergartener, sticking a leg out. Which always got you into trouble.
“Shut up.”
“Y/n!”
Turning your head you saw Jonathan coming down the hall, A piece of stained paper in hand as he came over. You didn’t miss the way that both Steve and Jonathan glanced at each other, though.
“Jona-”
“Here. I think you’ll want to see this.” He told you, holding out the folded piece of paper out to you, which you hesitantly took as Steve picked up on the cue to leave
“I’ll uh, I’ll talk to you later?” You nodded as a response, watching as Steve stood up and went back to the opened waiting area while Jonathan squatted down next to you as you unfolded the paper only to be met with a photo of your own face. The word ‘missing’ right above it in all capital letters, your name, age, and facial description on it, as well as what you’d been wearing when you’d ran off that night. The date of your birth, and the date of that night.
“Mom said she found it in there.” Jonathan informed you while you kept examining the photo of yourself. Your hair pushed behind your ears, a smile on your face in a pale blue sweater around Christmas time.
“No. . .”
Please do frantic love confessions for byler
Will wasn’t sure how well the shed could hold. The walls were really just slats of wood held together by a few rusty nails and good intentions. Mike was moving the main work bench toward the door, waving Will away from it. The two of them flipped it up onto its side, the table legs sticking out around them like protective arms. They leaned against the table, hoping to reinforce it. They could hear the demogorgon storming the front of the house, chasing their scent.
“What do we do?” Will asked, looking around for weapons. His mother had been cleaning it out the past two summers. There wasn’t much. Just some chairs. Not even a string of Christmas lights with which to strangle the damn thing. “Mike, what do we do?”
“I don’t know.” He shook his head. “I don’t know– Hopper should be on his way. And I called Lucas on the radio before we took off. I-I don’t know– how did it follow us that far… I don’t… We have to just… wait.”
“Wait for what?” Will could only hear their window of opportunity shrinking. Plates in his family kitchen were being shattered by enormous and careless, blood-thirsty hands. Claws. Whatever. “To die?”
“For help.” Mike corrected. “We aren’t going to die.”
Will held his own sides, trying to comfort possibly his last moments of painless autonomy. “I don’t want to die. Not here.”
“You won’t. You won’t die here.” Mike pushed away from the table and door, crossing the shed to the pile of extra lawn furniture tucked away for summer. He grabbed a metal chair and tested the legs against the ground. “You’re going to die very very old and like, annoyingly successful. And definitely not living in Hawkins. You’re gonna be surrounded by your huge family, very comfortable and happy.”
Will watched Mike try and find the weak welding on the seat. His hands were shaking and his balance was unsteady. “Will you be there?” He asked. Mike stopped working, looking up at Will. Another plate crashed.
“Of course I will. I don’t intend on going anywhere. Where you move, I move.” Mike shrugged. He found a rusty seam along the armrest. He stepped down firmly and snapped the arm off the chair. It was hollow in the center, unsurprising but still disappointing. He held it out to Will as he walked back to him. “Here, let’s jam it under the door.”
Will helped Mike line it up under both the table and door, forgetting for a moment what they were really barring themselves from. All while Mike had opened a whole new can of worms. “Why would you move with me?”
“You’re my best friend. You think I want to live more than ten minutes from your front door? You’re crazy.” Mike laughed and kicked the bar after Will, taking turns.
He was scared, Will could tell. He always got overly calm when he was moments from crying, from completely losing control and giving in to his anxiety. He liked to get other people in control of the situation and their emotions in case he caved.
“You’re my best friend too.” Will braced his arms against the table. He heard the backdoor clatter open. “You’re my best best friend.” The ground shook with each step. They could hear the clicking and gargling of the demogrogon. The sound rumbled low in their chests like an earthquake. Will cleared his throat and turned to Mike. “I’m glad I’m dying with you.”
“Y-You’re n…” Mike turned his head, finding Will’s eyes and letting his bottom lip quiver. Here it was– the collapse. “Me too. I’m glad you’re here with me.”
Between them, resting against the rattling table, both of their hands bumped together. Mike’s fingers lifted and splayed to make better room for Will’s under his own. He squeezed Will’s fingers. Mike’s palms were slick and his grip shuddered with his whole body.
“I heard you, you know… last time we were all in here.” Will said suddenly, closing his eyes. He could hear Mike– two years younger and just as terrified– it was the best thing i ever did. best thing i ever did. the best thing. the best. best. “It was the best thing I ever did too. Becoming your friend.”
Mike slid his entire hand into Will’s. Will couldn’t tell who was breathing heavier: Mike or the demogorgon. Mike tried to steady his breathing, inhaling sharply through his nose. “I don’t want to die.”
“Mike,”
“I can’t die like this. I can’t die like this because then everything I’m about to tell you is going to seem like a last ditch effort to make our last moments mean something, but I mean all of it. It’s all genuine. I’ve meant everything since the eighth grade, since I almost lost you.” Mike was whispering, his hand climbing up Will’s hand to his wrist. The breathing was shifting to Will’s left– toward Mike. “I can’t die if you think that I’m making this up.”
Will opened his eyes and found Mike already staring at him. His eyes were bloodshot and glassy, dangerously close to tearing up. “Michael… You don’t have to say anything.”
“I do. I have to–” They screamed as the demogorgon slammed the wall. The wood groaning with the weight, the nails couldn’t hold– and they hadn’t reinforced anything but the door. They had only prepared to wait. Mike reached over and grabbed a table leg, covering Will. “I have to say– Will… Will, I’m in love with you. A-And if I didn’t tell you and then– and then we fucking died oh my god I’d be so fucking mad at myself and–”
“Mike. Stop talking.” Will whispered, grabbing his arm with his other hand.
“I know this isn’t a great time and it’s weird but, Will, I swear you are the only thing I think about–”
“Michael,” Will whispered, nudging his side. “Michael, please stop talking.” Mike couldn’t seem to stop, digging himself deeper into his own heart; outpouring every word he’d been dying to say– and now might die saying. Will dove to cover Mike’s mouth. “Will you please stop talking? Because I can’t die now that you’ve decided to tell me that you love me when I’m so scared that I couldn’t even think of articulating myself correctly and tell you that I love you too so– stop. talking.”
Mike nodded slowly. He blinked to show he hadn’t been stunned to silence, but rather choice. They were ignoring the finality of hearing each other’s confessions.
They waited in prolonged terror– extended and suspended– as the bushes rustled at the far end of the shed. It was strange to think that they weren’t hiding, they weren’t protecting themselves by being silent. They were just waiting; seeing if they’d be killed or left alone. Will just had to wait, hand over Mike’s mouth and fingers digging into his forearm like he was trying to get blood. They were waiting– after apparently doing enough of it to find the right moment to confession their love to one another. This wasn’t the moment they were waiting for, but maybe the only one they’d have.
Mike lifted his head, his chin pushing Will’s hand away. Will didn’t fight him. He could hear the demogorgon circling the shed– but he also swore he heard squeaking brakes at the other end of the house. If his ears were wrong, Will didn’t want to miss a single moment with Mike, with whatever his heart had to say.
“I love you.”
“I know, Michael. Me too.”
Forgotten Summer Chapter 3
At Home
AO3 FF
Author’s Note: The encounter with the Bowers Gang was supposed to happen in the last chapter, but I felt the chapter was getting too long, so I decided to put the scene in this chapter. Also, I changed Melanie’s faceclaim to Riele Downs.
P.S.: Yes, I know it’s been a long time since I’ve updated this story. Life got in the way.
Racism Trigger Warning: The n-word is used.
The Bowers Gang began approaching Melanie and Mike. “Mike,” Melanie called to her cousin.
He looked up from his book. “Yeah,” he asked.
Before she could respond, Henry had only reached them. “What’s up, niggers,” Henry taunted.
Mike gulped. “What do you want, Henry,” he said in a quivering voice.
“A better question is why are you two sitting at the counter?”
“Because we wanted to.”
“You know, when my dad was a kid you people weren’t allowed to sit here.”
“Well, we can now,” said Melanie under her breath.
Unfortunately, Henry heard her; he grabbed her arm. “What did you say,” he demanded.
“Nuh-nothing,” she stammered.
He gripped her arm tighter. “You said something.”
“Let her go,” Mike said. He grabbed Henry’s arm and attempted to pry it from Melanie’s. Patrick and Belch pushed him back, however.
Henry ignored Mike and maintained his attention on Melanie. “If you’re going to be rude, maybe I should…”
“What the hell do you think you’re doing,” a female voice interrupted. It was her aunt.
The appearance of Jessica Hanlon caused Henry to loosen his grip on Melanie. She immediately took the opportunity to pull her arm away.
“None of your business,” Henry snapped at Jessica.
“She’s my niece. It’s entirely my business,” said Jessica, crossing her arms.
“Is there a problem here,” questioned Sarah. She had noticed what was going on and came over.
“I don’t know.” Jessica gave Henry a stern look. “Is there, young man?”
Henry looked between the two women. Eventually, he rolled his eyes and said, “Whatever.” He turned to his friends. “Let’s go.”
Henry walked away and his friends followed behind. Melanie watched them leave. Patrick looked back and gave her a salacious wink; she shivered.
Jessica put her hand on Melanie’s shoulder. “Are you okay, honey?”
Melanie nodded. “I’m fine.” She wasn’t, but she didn’t want to admit it.
Luckily, her aunt didn’t call her on it. Instead, she looked at Mike. “What about you, sweetie?”
“I’m okay,” Mike replied. Melanie was sure he wasn’t being honest either.
“I’ll go check on your order,” said Sarah. “You want anything, Jess?”
“Yeah, I’ll have a diet Coke,” she responded.
“Alright.” Sarah left and went into the kitchen.
Jessica took a seat next to Mike. She made small talk with her son and niece. Every so often she would cast a glance at them. Melanie figured she was making sure they were okay. Bowers had always been a thorn in their family’s side.
Sarah eventually returned with their drinks. A short time later, she brought their tater tots. Other than occasionally answering Jessica’s questions, Melanie and Mike ate in silence. The encounter with Bowers had soured their moods.
-TFS-
Melanie, Mike, and Jessica entered their house. They all carried a paper grocery bag. “Will baby, we’re home,” Jessica shouted to her husband.
“I’m in the kitchen,” he shouted back.
“Good, you can help us put away groceries!”
“Yes, ma’am!”
The trio entered the kitchen. Will Hanlon was drying his hands. Melanie noticed a bowl of strawberries by the sink. He had probably been washing them.
Jessica placed her bag on the counter while Mike and Melanie placed theirs on the table. They began putting away the groceries. Will walked over to his wife and kissed her on the lips. “Eww,” said Mike and Melanie.
“Oh, hush,” Jessica said, rolling her eyes.
The two of them giggled. They began to silently put away groceries. While doing so, Melanie noticed her aunt and uncle were whispering to each other. She couldn’t help but wonder if they were talking about her. She had overheard them talking about her a few times before. It was always the same thing. Was she okay? Should they talk to her about it?
If they were talking about her, she knew it was probably because of the incident with Bowers. He had always been a thorn in their side.
“Ow,” exclaimed Melanie. She had been so lost in her thoughts, she had hit her foot against something. She also dropped the loaf of bread she had been holding.
Mike turned towards her. “You okay,” he asked.
“I’m fine.”
Melanie’s exclamation had also gotten Will and Jessica’s attention. “You sure, honey,” Jessica asked.
“Yeah,” assured Melanie. She bent down to pick up the bread.
After about four minutes, they finished with the groceries. Mike went to his room while Melanie decided to call Beverly. She dialed Bev’s number; she picked up after two rings.
“Hello,” Bev answered.
“It’s Melanie,” she said.
“I’m sorry, you have the wrong number.” Melanie frowned. That meant Mr. Marsh was home and awake. He shared the same opinion of her family that the Bowers did.
“Okay, call me back when you can,” Melanie said.
“It’s no problem,” said Beverly.
Melanie hung up the phone. She went upstairs to her room to grab her camera. She then headed outside. It was warm outside; she wished that the weather would stay exactly like this all summer.
She started to snap pictures around the farm. She took pictures of the crops, the animals, and several other things. After a while, she just decided to walk around. Melanie enjoyed the sounds of the farm; it was relaxing for her.
She made a face. The normal sounds she heard were interrupted by music. At first, she thought it was coming from the house, but she soon realized it was coming from the woods. The song sounded familiar; she began walking towards it. Melanie stopped right where the woods and farm met.
She finally recognized the song. It was My Girl by The Temptations. It had been a while since she had heard it. Her father would sing it to her and her mother; they would dance around the living room as he did. She smiled at the memory.
Her happiness quickly gave way to confusion. Why was the song playing in the woods? The only radio her aunt and uncle had was in the living room. Was someone with a radio hanging out in the woods? It wasn’t uncommon in Derry.
“Hello,” she called out. No response. “Is someone out there?” Still no response.
She was about to walk into the woods when she heard uncle yell, “Melanie!”
Melanie jumped back from the forest. She hoped her uncle hadn’t seen her. He didn’t like her and Mike going into the woods without him or Aunt Jessica. She turned around to look. She let out a breath of relief; he hadn’t seen her. She turned back to the woods. The song had stopped playing. She figured whoever was in there had her uncle and turned off the radio.
“Melanie,” Uncle Will called out again.
“Coming,” she yelled back. She jogged back to the house.
There, Uncle Will stood on the porch waiting for her. “You have fun sightseeing,” he teased.
“Yeah, I saw a mountain lion.”
“Ooh, I hope you took lots of photos.”
“Yep.”
Uncle Will chuckled. “Well, you can tell Bev all about it. She’s on the phone for you.” He ruffled her hair.
“Thanks.” Melanie walked inside. She picked up the phone and put it to her ear. “Hey, Bev.”
“Hey, Mel,” her friend greeted back. “Sorry, I couldn’t talk before.”
“It’s fine. Where did you disappear to?”
“I went to smoke.”
“Ah.”
“I also ran into Greta.”
That couldn’t be good. “What happened?”
“She threw garbage on me,” Beverly grumbled.
Melanie made a face. “Gross.”
“Yeah, but I don’t want to talk about that. How’d it go with Bill science?” Bev’s voice turned singsongy. She was well aware of Melanie’s crush.
Melanie smiled. “He invited me to sit with his friends.”
“Tell me everything.”
“Well, Richie is definitely high energy…”
Cherry Bomb: Chap. 1
For clarification, Milven is purely platonic and events from Stranger Things 3 did not happen, such as Jim Hopper's death and the Byers and Eleven moving away.
June 14, 1985
"Roth... Roth...." the voice of Mike Wheeler said coming from the comm.
[Y/N] groaned and picked it up. "What you want, Blackbird?"
"You want to come over and play some D & D? With the rest of the party? Over." He asked.
[Y/N] [L/N] had lived next to the Wheeler family since she was five. Her family had moved there for a change of pace as it was a small town and very different from Indianapolis. She and Mike had grown up as window neighbors.
"But my elvan archer will die! It's happened every time. So much for me trying to be a female Legolas. Over."
"Then, bring your other characters. I know you created like twenty, so you can continue on playing with us for ten hours. Over." He told her.
[Y/N] could faintly hear the sound of snickers and giggles from the other end followed by the normal "Shut up!" from Mike. She sighed to herself.
"What will I be getting out of this again? Over."
"Time with the greatest people you have ever known? Over." Mike paused before adding. "We have food. Blackbird out."
"I'll be there in a minute. Roth out." [Y/N] put the comm down and left the room.
She didn't hear the endless teasing from Eleven, Max, Lucas, and Dustin. Or any of what Mike said in retaliation of their teasing and mochery. Instead, while that was going on, she hopped down the stairs to her mom. At the moment, it was just [Y/N], her mom, and her cat at the house (her parents were seperated, but they both liked the small town life of Hawkins, Indiana).
"Hey, momma, can I go over to the Wheeler's right now? Mike invited me over to play Dungeons & Dragons with the party." She asked finding her mom in the kitchen baking some deserts.
"Sure, sweetie. Just be back by six. You're father will be over here to pick you up for the weekend." Her mother, [Mother Name], replied.
It was the Friday after school let out for the summer and the first thing the party wanted to do was play Dungeons & Dragons. Of course some people (Max Mayfield) resented that notion seeing as it was summer which meant no more school and some more beach.
"Okay. Love you! Bye!" [Y/N] kissed her mom's cheek and zoomed out the door to her neighbors house.
She knocked on the door and Nancy opened the door for her. The upcoming senior at Hawkins High sighed before allowing the young girl that hadn't been involved with anything weird yet into their house. One thing the party, Jim Hopper, Joyce Byers, Nancy Wheeler, Jonathon Byers, and the Scoup Troop all agreed on was to leave the girl out of it. Out of all of it. [Y/N] went down towards Mike's basement where she found the boys setting up the pieces at the table and the girls were setting up snacks such as chips, some bite sized deserts, and soda.
"Hi, [Y/N]." Eleven said.
"Hi, El." [Y/N] said coming over to the two girls.
"[Y/N], which character are you playing?" Mike said looking through the folder labeled [Y/N]'s characters.
"Uh... actually... I wanted to try to be... a... uh..." then the girl mumbled what she wanted to do.
Max Mayfield and Eleven smirked (as they had heard what she said). Dustin Henderson asked for her to speak up, so they could hear her. All they got out of her was a smear of red across her face. Now that the boys were staring at her and her two only female friends were smirking, she instantly regretted every decision she had ever made.
"You know what? Just forget it. I'll use my elva-."
"She wants a chance as Dungeon Master, but she is too nervous to say anything to you four." Max said cutting her friend off.
[Y/N] tried to cover her face with her hands as she waited for the laughter to come right afterwards. It was a stupid idea. A stupid, silly thing to suggest she do. Way to make a fool out of you, [Y/N]. the [H/C] haired girl thought to herself before shying away from her friends.
"Since when do you know how to be Dungeon Master?" Dustin asked as he and Lucas sneakily (not that sly though) glanced over at Mike.
"It can't be that much difficult than putting on shows with action figures and dolls while my little cousins intervene about what the different characters could do." And Mike taught me.
"I say we give her a shot. I'm tired of doing the same thing ever single time." Max said.
"We don't do the same thing every time!" Lucas retorted back at his girlfriend.
"It's the same thing, but different outcomes based on the die roll." Eleven agreed.
"Just let her be dungeon master, guys. For one day. I actually want to see where she'll go with it. I'll just be a Gnome Thief." Mike told them.
"I don't have a problem with that." Will Byers added making his first statement in the conversation.
"Go on, [Y/N]." Dustin said glancing at the seat next to Mike. "You can sit there."
[Y/N] didn't see the glare Mike sent Dustin as she sat down in the seat. Eleven and Max got some food before sitting down.
"So, are we ready?" she asked them.
"Yeah. Let's see what you got." Lucas told her.
"To be clear, this is going to be totally -."
"Just start already, [Y/N]." Mike interrupted her. "Yes, we're well aware this is 'Geek Improv'."
Eleven looked from Mike to [Y/N]. As soon as she started to go to school with the party, she met [Y/N] almost as soon as she stepped into the door. And instantly, she understood why Mike hadn't been able to return her feeling. And now, watching the two of them, it reminded Eleven of why that was. Time passed and they all realized how much more involved she was with the details than Mike was and they all knew the adventure they were on was all sprouted from her mouth like bullshit. Because it was. She was making it up as she went along.
"You have reached the end of your quest. But your quest is not over. Instead, one of your party members carries a dark secret. One of them is actually the Great Darkness that vows to shrall the land in eternal night. You hear the cackle of what sounds like the Wicked Witch of the West Hehehe! As the sound bounces off the walls of the cave, you wonder where and who the sound is coming from. But it's too late. Your hear it say 'It's too late for you. Hehehehe!' And the voice is coming from-."
"[Y/N]," Karen Wheeler, Mike's and Nancy's mom, said walking down into the basement, "your mom says your dad is waiting for you. Time to go."
Karen Wheeler went back upstairs and Dustin leaned over to Mike, "Since when does your mom come down here?"
Mike simply shrugged. "Can we finish this really quickly?"
[Y/N] shook her head getting up from her seat. "Sorry. Dad's impatient as it is, and we're supposed to go to Chicago for the weekend. I'll be back Wednesday though. We can finish it then. Have a good weekend, Blackbird. Fellow geeks." She saluted them.
"Bye, Roth. Have fun with your dad." Mike said as she went back up the stairs.
"Dude!" Max exclaimed once she was out of earshot.
"What?!" Mike fired back.
"Do you two really have to act like that?" Max asked him.
"Like what?" he asked her.
"Like that! Two love sick idiots. Why don't you just ask her out?" asked Max.
"He can't."
"He's tried."
"Countless times."
"Failed countless times."
"Stuck in the friend zone, is he." Dustin said in the voice of Yoda.
"He's not that stuck. She likes him back. Right, El?" Max asked looking at her female friend for assistance.
"She does." Eleven nodded her head in agreement. "Just ask her out."
"Do it. When she comes back." Max told him.
"Jeez, okay, I will." Mike told him.
Wednesday came, and he commed [Y/N]'s radio. "Roth... Roth... Roth...."
No answer. Usually she would pick up after the second or third Rorh, but silence filled the radio. He tried again thinking her mom may have cleaned up her room while she was away (it has happened before). Silence.
"[Y/N], you there? Blackbird here ... trying to talk to you. Over." Silence.
This was weird. It was strange. Even when she was angry with him, she never metaphorically left him on read. She would radio in that she was angry and didn't want to talk and there would be a "I DON'T WANT TO TALK TO YOU! I HATE YOU!" followed afterward that she didn't really mean. And that's when he heard shouting, yelling, and screaming from next door. It sounded like her parents.
Mike got out of his basement and along with his family and the rest of the street watched the scene play out between [Mother] and [Father] who hadn't spoken or saw one another in months.
"What do you mean you lost her? She was here yesterday! She called telling me she was back in Hawkins!" [Mother] yelled.
"I went to get food, and then she's gone! I checked everywhere for her! She's not here! And I'm pretty sure she didn't go back to Chicago! So, yeah I lost her! But I didn't lose her OKAY? She's missing! Gone! And it's not my fault! Dear god, why would you think it was my fault?" [Father] yelled back.
"It wouldn't be the first time you thought that." [Mother] mumbled before shouting, "If you didn't lose her, then help me find her! Help me find my daughter! Before something awful happens to her!"
[Y/N] was missing? Mike looked over at Nancy who was looking at him back. They both knew that the Upside Down had a part to play in the disappearance of [Y/N] [L/N].
What Netflix Original would the characters of Stranger Things watch the most often?
Eleven - Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (Eleven would compare the events of her life to Sabrina's events in her life when they are sorta similar)
Mike - Orange is the New Black (gives me Mike vibes)
Max - Sex Education (gives me Max Mayfield vibes)
Will - A Series of Unfortunate Events (i feel like he would have read the books in elementary school, so he felt obligated to watch the show)
Lucas - Lost in Space (i didn't know what to pick for Lucas, so I just picked something random)
Dustin - Voltron Legendary Defender (Dustin has always given me vibes that he's a cartoon watcher type of TV person)
Steve - Daybreak (gives me Steve vibes)
Nancy - The Worst Witch (this was an accident. Nancy didn't want to watch it, but saw the trailer, thought it was interesting, and watches it afterwards).
Robin - Disenchantment (doesn't it just scream Robin at you?)
Jonathon - You (he would have heard about it from Nancy who wanted to watch it and he got hooked)
Joyce - Santa Clarita Diet (funny zombie humor)
Hopper - The Crown (this would have started off as something that both Hopper and Eleven watched together as a sort of father-daughter show or whatever, but he got hooked really, really fast)
“Hey--”
“Move over, your ass is in my lap!”
“Hello?”
“What?! You're practically in my seat!”
“Is anyone even listening to--”
“Stop it guys - don’t push!”
“Hey! Dickheads! Would you all quit it? Goddamn, why didn’t one of you go with Y/N like she suggested?” Steve growled while trying not to crash the car. The boys had all decided they’d tumble into his car...leaving a party of three merrily skipping to the other teenager’s car...it wasn’t like there was anything wrong with it! - Y/N’s car was actually quite nice; she took care of it and even had a better radio than Steve...
“Because then we’d be alone with all that estrogen...not happening, Harrington,” Lucas spoke up while giving Mike a hard shove to his side. Will was groaning in annoyance as his friends jostled him to be pressed harshly to the car door. While Dustin happily was messing with the stereo (when he’d called shotgun - and Steve allowed it, Y/N had claimed it was ‘favoritism amongst their six babies who she, as the better parent, loved equally. Thus, no one would be sitting passenger in her car. Steve figured that’s why none of the boys wanted to go, being squeezed between El and Max might not be ideal...though Harrington knew better. Y/N liked playing her own music, and with a grubby hand like Dustin’s all over the radio - her rule had been set long before she became a mom).
“Mhm, sure,” Steve grumbled while rubbing his temple, already regretting agreeing to this. It wasn’t like it was a long ride back to Mike’s house - but goddamn did these knuckleheads make it feel like it... “Tell me that again when you’re not off sucking faces with Max,” the older boy was praised with ohs and ahs as he snapped the remark at Sinclair.
“At least I have a girlfriend,” Lucas defended, earning his own audience of noise.
“A-hahhhh, and what the hell is that supposed to mean, asshole?” Steve jabbed while resting his elbow on the rim of his window, it had been rolled down because all the movement in the car had it feel like a damn sauna. Dustin was still messing with his radio, flipping channels and making the music louder when Steve had specifically told him to turn it down. He slapped the said boy’s hand away and scolded him briefly,” Hands off, Henderson - how many times do I have to say it? It’s distracting me - do you want to die?” He exhaled slowly, trying not to pull the car over and kick each out to the side of the road. Either having to walk the rest of the way or ask Y/N.
“I mean - I have the balls to even kiss a girl - or are you and girly Henderson dating without us knowing?” Lucas drilled, earning a head nod from Mike, and an eye-roll from Will who just wanted to get to the house (he was more interested in DnD than how poorly Steve’s love life was going).
Steve abruptly stopped the car. He heard Y/N slamming on the breaks, a honk of her horn and the muffled sound of her cursing him off for such a dangerous stunt. He ignored it though, deciding to deal with the consequences later. Luckily, there wasn’t anyone behind Y/N to backend her (he wasn’t dumb enough to do such a thing with precious cargo...).
“What? You know how many girls I’ve kissed? How many I’ve made out with? Huh? Do you forget who I am?” He wiped his chin and shook his head with a defensive blush finding his face. He took a breath in and exhaled with a more composed manner. He tried to ignore the way the boys in the back held their laughter in, and definitely, decided to ignore the way Dustin watched them all in confusion (dumbass didn’t even see the way Steve looked at his sister).
“Me and Y/N...are not a thing. We’re not together, we’re not a couple, we’re not an item,” he drawled while shaking his head. After a few moments of silence, the boys clearly conflicted on to continue laughing or feel bad for the way Steve’s tone dropped off at the end of his sentence.
He started down the road again, both hands gripping the wheel tightly; his eyes never leaving the windshield. His ears painted pink.
“You...you guys know this,” he mumbled while shaking his head once more, flipping Y/N off in his rearview mirror.
“I know but--,” Mike was cut off with a soft sigh from Harrington.
“I-I can’t. Okay? Is that what you wanna hear from me? That...that I know I’m not good enough for her? That...I’m scared if I told her, she’d swallow me whole and I’d never be able to look her in the eyes?” The desperate drag of his tone was obvious (maybe Y/N was right; he’d stooped to King Steve level of desperation...not for other girls...but...to just get a chance with her...anything...anything...he’d do anything).
The rest of the ride was filled with the boys in the back, coming up with love advice for Steve. Ask her out, just do it - be confident! Write her a letter. Tell her she looks nice. Ask her if she wants a boyfriend. Tell her she’s hot. Oh, what about showing her-- they’d reached the Wheeler estate and as they began unbuckling and getting ready to leave the car (thank the Lord, he wasn’t sure how much more he could take), and Dustin - who had been silent the majority of the ride finally spoke.
“What. The. Actual. Fuck.” He sputtered while his eyebrows furrowed in utter shock and confusion.
Steve rolled his eyes, and pushed his door open, calling over his shoulder,” I like your sister, dude. We’ve established this like....thirty-six times. Catch up, dipshit.” All embarrassment he had earlier had washed away, being replaced with a bubbling feeling of nerves and doubt. The boys were trying to be nice, do their best...but...they were all awkward preteens...their advice was as good as Steve consulting a Magic 8-Ball.
Inside the house, before trucking to Mike’s basement - Dustin dragged Steve to the kitchen, his mind still trying to figure out what had been revealed (or more so, finally brought up as Steve’s feelings for Y/N had always been the weird, pink-polka-dotted elephant in the room).
“What’re you doing? - They’ll start without you--,” Steve was hushed as Dustin slapped his hand to his mouth.
“My sister?” Dustin whisper-shouted. Steve rolled his eyes for the nth time and tugged Henderson’s grip from his face.
“Yeah, dingus - we’ve been over this--,”
“But my sister...Steve...why?” Dustin wasn’t sure how he felt about it clearly, and it only made Steve more nervous. That feeling that sunk into his bones, not a good one. Of course, if he were going to date Y/N...he’d need his best friend’s (and favorite child’s) permission.
“Whaddya want me to say! She’s like...the only girl I hang out with that’s my age, besides Robin, that I don’t mind,” Steve paused,” Might I remind you - Robin’s not into dudes.” It was almost sad how his social life had crumbled along with his desire to capture anyone else’s attention but Y/N’s (and of course, he’d tried to push those feelings aside for the sake of your friendship...but...it never worked).
Dustin was quiet; longer than Steve would’ve liked, as sitting in the soft silence was nervewracking. The curly-haired sibling stood, arms crossed, eyes clouded with thought as he rubbed his chin. Steve tapped his foot, leaning on the kitchen countertop as he waited, pinching the bridge of his nose. God, this kid’s such a headache...
“Dusty - Will told me, to tell you, that if you don’t go down now, you’ll be left out,” Y/N was just turning the corner when she spotted the pair in the kitchen, seeming as if they were in quite the predicament.
“Is this a private moment...or?” she spoke slowly, a tease to her words.
“N-No! I was...just...telling Steve that...um...,” his attention now on the older boy who had a hand ruffling through his hair for any imperfections (though who was he kidding? Harrington had the best head of hair in Hawkins).
“I was telling him if he doesn’t do it...I’ll...be disappointed...guy stuff,” Dustin gave Harrington a sincere half-grin and there was obviously a conversation to be held later (but Y/N’s appearance lead Dustin to keep his mouth shut for now).
“Really?” Steve asked, his brows raised as he took the boy’s words in.
“Yeah...yeah...just...don’t do something weird in front of me,” Dustin lowered his voice as he spoke the last bit.
“Alright, enough bro-talk, Dusty - get going and leave the adults to talk.” Y/N rolled her eyes; ruffling his hair as he passed by.
It was just the two of them, and Steve was trying not to do something stupid. Walking forward, he felt his body involuntarily tense up as she moved to stand a few feet from him - though a few feet was more than enough to render his mind as blank as all hell. His body completely useless now...
Don’t do something stupid. Don’t do something stupid. Don’t do something stupid. Don’t do something stupid. Don’t do something stupid....
“Did you want to do something while they messed around? Like catch a movie or--,” Y/N was interrupted by the blubbering fool before her.
“Your letter - uh, looks nice -- I mean, it looks hot! No - wait...that...that didn’t come out right.” Steve’s outburst granted an unsure look from her. Please just kill me now...did...did I say that? Well...all logic had found its way out the nearest fucking window...
“What?” Was all Y/N said while waiting for Steve with furrowed brows.
He covered his eyes, his free hand waving around for a dazed second as he tried to get the proper words out. Breathe...be natural...be confident....don’t fuck it up like that again, Harrington.
“I meant to say - you look nice,” he paused,” And to answer your question, why don’t we just go down and um...finally settle the score?” That...was...better.
Y/N shrugged, nodding as she reached for his hand. At that moment, Steve’s heart flatlined and he was sure he was now staring at an angel as she dragged him across the house, to the basement. “Sounds good - be prepared because momma ain’t leavin’ without her babies’ approval,” Steve could only nod to the back of her head as she spoke such fighting words.
If you asked Steve Harrington at the beginning of high school - what he thought about spending his free-time with six underaged dweebs who all were too smart-assy for their own good, and got themselves in trouble with hell (literally)...he’d have laughed and told you, you were as delusional as Byers.
If you asked the Steve Harrington the same question now - he’d look around at the six underaged dweebs shouting and arguing around a table laid out with character sheets, figurines, and dice... He’d laugh at their quick remarks and their tendency to use foul language, and he’d smile. Steve would’ve congratulated Byers’ brother for being the best Dungeon Master, the world had to offer.
If you told him, roughly five years after high school - he’d be seated on a busted sofa, in his ex’s basement, coke loosely held in one hand, the other pushing a pretty girl’s head away from him in a teasing manner...he’d...well..he’d not believe you. Because you’d describe the girl as someone so...amazing, so incomparable, that he’d think you’d made her up. You’d say that she was so breathtaking, that if you were in the same space as her for too long - you’d die from a lack of oxygen. That she had the most stunning y/c/e eyes he’d ever have the perquisite of seeing, and they’d have him chasing her for ages...having him choke on his own spit when she looked at him. Not to mention, the heartstopping laugh she’d have...the kind of laugh that had any guy (not just dorky Harrington) fall harder than he thought possible. Finding himself in an endless fall that put even Alice’s rabbit hole tumble to shame. She’d have a melody that had him trip over his words and stumble to find his footing. Yeah...Steve would not have believed you.
And yet, here he was...watching six dweebs play Dungeons and Dragons; with a girl he was madly in love with - more perfect than words could offer, sitting on a busted sofa, in his ex’s basement, no more than a foot between them...
“I’m tellin’ you, Steves - I’m the better parent, because the girls love me, and the boys worship me,” Y/N explained while pulling an L up to her forehead. Steve scoffed and waved her off.
“Actually - I don’t worship you, I worship Steve for giving me his hair secre--,”
Steve began snapping with his left hand, shaking his head and glaring. “Hey, hey, hey! Shithead - you swore on your life, you’d never say jackshit about that!” Dustin threw his hands out in silent defense.
“Sorry, I was just standing up for y--,” Steve shook his head once more, blowing him off with a puff of his cheeks. “Remember what I said? One peep - and your ass, yeah the one you’re sitting on now, is grass, Henderson. Grass.”
The gang began laughing at Steve’s overprotective outburst of his “best feature”. The brunette only tsked, mumbling obscenities.
“That wasn’t very better parent material, Steve,” Max snickered while El whispered something in her ear.
“Aye! No whispering under my watch - if you have a secret, you can say it aloud in front of the family,” he stressed with fake authority.
“But you just told Dustin--,” “Eleven - I don’t need a smartass.” Steve pursed his lips.
The kids eventually settled back down, getting sucked into their fantasy world once more without a second glance to the pair on the sofa. Y/N was clamping a hand to her mouth, trying not to let the amusement slip from her lips. She loved seeing Steve with the kids - he was so....dorky and sweet in his own way...saying so, she could almost admit she loved h--
“What’re you laughing at, Ms. Not-the-best-parent-because-you-suck-and-don’t-have-great-ass-hair?” Steve hissed in a low tone. His eyes watching the way Y/N’s flickered with happiness and one emotion he couldn’t quite place.
“You’re wrong for two reasons, Harrington,” she mused.
“Enlighten me,” he replied, leaning to have only a few inches between the two of you. It had been on a fleeting moment of confidence, leaving Y/N with a bright red glow - and Steve with a dumb grin. He wasn’t sure if he was proud of it, or extremely embarrassed...he settled to let her finish instead.
“Well, one: you’re not the better parent. I am,” Y/N pinched his cheek, to which he tried to back out of, but she only squeezed harder, leaving Steve to let out a grievance of annoyance as she tugged him back to listen.
“And two: your hair isn’t that great. I mean--” Steve gasped in a dramatic hurt. Falling from her grip and bending over her lap like a speared body. “Stop! Right there, don’t finish that sentence...you’ll ruin everything I’ve worked for.” he pleaded. His tongue sticking out his mouth as if he’d ‘died’.
Y/N giggled watching his childish act and rolling her eyes, a good-natured smile on her lips. She brushed a hand through his hair and spoke in an exaggerated tone,” I’m so sorry, Steves, please forgive--,” in the time of her talking, Steve had lifted a hand and silenced her with the odd hand-motion that looked like a duck, then grabbed her wrist and removed her hand from his scalp.
“You don’t get the privilege to touch my great ass hair, even if I’m dead.” He mumbled, stifled by her lap. Even though in actuality, he loved the feeling and knew if she didn’t stop he’d fall asleep.
“Oh, get over yourself,” Y/N proclaimed while attempting to shove the limp body of Steve Harrington from her own. “Nuhu,” he murmured.
Watching the two teenagers fall all over one another, the six children held back their gags.
“It’s so sad,” Max mumbled.
“Yeah, so sad I can’t focus on this raid,” Lucas agreed while knocking his head against the table.
“It’s like watching two blind...like very blind bats try, and make love.” Mike spewed.
“Thanks for the visual,” Will snorted.
“I think it’s sweet.” Everyone looked to El as she shrugged with a sheepish look.
“What? Steve...he likes her. Why is that bad?” She grabbed Mike’s hand. “I like Mike. Mike likes me - why is Steve and Y/N any different?”
The idea hit them like a ton of bricks...or, maybe it was the obnoxious laughter of their favorite Henderson (to Dustin’s protest) being tickled by Harrington, that snapped them into realization.
Steve was basically, on top of her. His hands running down her sides as she squirmed, refusing to apologize for saying she was better than him, and that his hair wasn’t anything special... While it was cringe-worthy on every level (according to a sulking brother), it was...sweet.
Y/N had a smile on her lips that they’d never really seen before - save for when Harrington entered the room. It was like he said the funniest thing without really having to say anything at all...like Steve brought out the best in her without having to lift a finger. Stomach in knots when he called her name...it was that kind of smile that Steve was able to bring out.
As for Harrington himself? His smile remained even after she left. Having spent a whole day with her - the party would catch him grinning to himself like a madman while helping them put away their game set-up. They’d catch him repeating things he’d said that happened to make Y/N smile the way he loved... It was the kind of look that you couldn’t replicate, even if you tried...only if you knew the feeling - could you do so.
Realizing this, Dustin yelled and groaned silently in his head (half disgust and half reluctant understanding). Steve, you owe me big time for this...
“Fine,” he whispered, catching everyone’s gaze but the two still messing bout on the sofa. “What’s the plan?”
“You’re s-such a l-loserrrr!” Y/N slurred while trying to struggle free of the handsome boy before her. Steve knew she had a soft spot for being so sensitive - he’d figured it out one time when she almost knocked him out on accident...(it ended with a lot of apologizing on your part, while also laughing as he held a bag of frozen peas to his face to avoid any swelling...)
“Admit it, and I’ll stop,” Steve tried to sound as serious as possible, failing utterly as Y/N’s y/c/h was splayed out like a crooked halo. Truly an angel...if anything, he wasn’t sure what he’d done in his (not so great) lifetime to earn the graces of such a human as you...good God...
Catching his gaze, Y/N shook her head (her halo only following her as any good angels’ would). “I-I...haha...will...n-never...a-admit...a-a lie!”
Steve only clicked his tongue. Sighing with a shake of his head. “I guess you’ll suffer until the end of time then, huh?”
After a few more minutes of torture (which Steve called, making sure Y/N had gotten her daily dose of laughter - as it was the best medicine and he didn’t need her falling ill any time soon, because...well...he didn’t have any apples on deck), he stopped, finally allowing her a breath of stability. He scooted down so he could cross his arms over her stomach, half his face buried there as he watched her collect herself.
It was moments like these that Steve truly cherished the most...he wondered if Y/N had the same mindset.
Because he’d honestly, never felt so good with anyone - not even with Nancy, who admittedly, was someone he’d actually held some feelings for (of course, the emotions Y/N threw at him had always overshadowed them, but Wheeler breaking his heart didn’t hurt any less). Steve had never wanted to give someone the world - mainly because it was impossible - but he knew that if Y/N simply suggested that such an action would, make her even smile for a few seconds...he’d figure out a way to do it within the next twenty-four hours.
You know, you’re like really pretty. Do you know what you do to me, Y/N? Is what Steve so hopelessly wanted to say, but he didn’t, instead, settling for a much simpler version.
“You wouldn’t be able to pull off this hair like I do...which is why...if you really wanted me to, I’d teach you my ways,” it came out as a harsh whisper of sorts - his jaw not having much movement as it was pressed to the crook of his elbow, both arms still rested on Y/N’s abdomen.
She laughed, and it sent a vibration through his body as he was rested atop her - only resulting in a chuckle of his own. The same wave taking ahold of Y/N, as Harrington’s chest rose and fell with each quick, shortened breath.
It was like they were in their own little world...too bad Dustin throwing a pillow at Steve’s head had to ruin it.
“So, we’ve come to a conclusion...,” Dustin explained, watching Harrington awkwardly try and sit up off his sister - Steve’s face burning up. Though, Y/N was in no better condition...her hands found her neck and her cheeks were a lovely shade of sunset.
“Oh, yeah?” Steve hummed while glancing at a nearby digital clock. “It better not be something crazy - ‘cause it’s almost ten o’clock and I think some of you need to get home.” Y/N nodded in agreement, leaning over and using her hand as a terrible shield,” Nice one...trying to act all momma bear like...I think they’ll definitely say you’re the better parent now.” “Har, har. Your sarcasm wasn’t necessary, Henderson,” Steve noted while flicking her forehead.
“We all need to go upstairs,” El suddenly directed. A hand raising to point, as if proving her sentence true.
Steve froze, unsure of where this was exactly going...but seeing as El usually had only good things to say...and a good intention...he nodded, words slow as he spoke,” Okay...okay...we’ll go upstairs then.”
They all marched up, like eight odd ants in a line - and when Mike suggested they watch a movie before Steve and Y/N drove them all home; it was quickly unanimous (which was a hard deal, as both teenagers knew getting six hardheaded children to agree on something was worse than trying to get Billy Hargrove to turn down a pretty face and a tight dress).
“Uh, ‘kay then...I guess we’re watching...a movie now,” Steve mumbled, trying to figure out the sudden change in pace. He was sure they hadn’t even finished their round, or match...or whatever they called it (he had only tried to play DnD once and...well...that’s a story for another time).
“I’ll see if there are any blankets, Mike, would you mind seeing if there’s any popcor--,” “Oh....you’re not watching the movie...did you think you’d be watching it with us?” Was Wheeler’s response.
Six shit-eating grins and twelve hands shoving a Scoops Ahoy employee and a caring older sister out the front door later...and Steve found himself standing on the porch of Mike Wheeler’s house - the kids he and Y/N were supposed to be watching having locked them out, without their wallets or keys...or even a hint at what they were doing outside in the, now cool summer night...
“Great going Steve,” was all she said while staring at the closed door.
He whipped around on her and glared while crossing his arms.
“Wha-- me?! I don’t remember you helping with, I dunno...six dipshits shoving us out the damn house!”
“I didn’t think I needed to...Mr. Better Than Me...I was clearly wrong.” Y/N smirked.
Steve couldn’t even be fake mad for long. It ended with the pair laughing and shaking their heads, clutching their stomachs and asking for the kids to let them back in. Without an answer...Steve questioned what this was all about; remembering the boys giving him (crappy) advice on how to ask Y/N out. I mean...this is one way to force a guy between a rock and a hard place...
“Screw it, screw them, screw babysitting - screw this,” Harrington lamented. “No cars, but we got legs...wanna just go for a walk until our meddling kids decide to let their old folk back in?” He was going out on a limb, but...he couldn’t help it. Her presence was just so damn addicting...he wanted as much as he could get without having to pay the price of embarrassment just yet.
“Sure, Steve, sure.” with a gentle smile and a giggle...that was all the hype he needed to take her hand and pull her from the stoop.
“Well, m’lady - then let me lead the way.”
Hm...I can’t help but want more to this....partttttt 3 anyone? >.<
The Aftermath Part Four
Tumblr media
Here is part four of Aftermath. Angst is finally coming. Sorry it took so long!
Raphael and Reader
After Raphael had sufficiently calmed your rising panic attack and with a little convincing you were fine, they finally allowed you to walk around their home. Michelangelo most enthusiastically pulled you around their subterranean lair, pointing out every room and its purpose. You could see the other brothers follow close behind, Raphael a little closer than most.
Soon you were seeing the luxuries they still had; running water, electricity and a plethora of running vehicles.
“How did…..” you trailed off turning back to the three oldest.
“Don is a genius.” Leonardo quickly answered your unspoken question resting his hands on the tall terrapins shoulder with a squeeze. “We are very lucky. Without him we’d be living like savages like those neanderthals up there.”
“You don’t want to get into close quarters with any of them. Most of them don’t seem to know where water is located.” Mikey cut in wrinkling his beak in disgust as he brought you a glass of water which you took suspiciously.
Donnie watched you eye the liquid through the clear glass and chuckled, “Don’t worry I have a pretty extensive filtration system in place. That water is cleaner then what we had before the apocalypse.”
Satisfied with the answer you took a sip and found he was right. It was even better than your water…damn.
Leo continued sitting down at a kitchen chair ushering you to do the same which you obliged the large terrapin. “I can tell you yourself are quite smart. Your food situation, personal hygiene and that pretty slick rig you have. Along with your interest in solar power, this unfortunately makes you a very hot commodity in this day and age. We found that out rather quickly when we were exposed years ago. Now they hunt us in hopes to get Donnie boy for his brains and the rest of us for our strength. Donavan has tried to strong arm us several times to get us to work for him….well I use the word ‘work’ very loosely when it comes to that scum bag.”
“Yeah that asshole don’t have employees. He has slaves both male and female alike.” Raphael growled with discontent, spinning the red sai with expert precision between his thick green digits. “If those idiots ever wake up and report back to fuckface that you were snooping around a solar panel you’re gonna be high on his list as well.”
“Wait, you guys didn’t kill them?”
“Nah those assholes aren’t worth the cleanin I’d need to do on these babies.” Raphael half growled and laughed sheathing his weapon in his belt.
Leonardo shook his head with a smile and caught your gaze once again. “No we do not kill if it can be helped. We practice Bushido; we are not allowed to take a life unless it is unavoidable.” He adjusted his massive weight in the rickety chair and swallowed heavily. “Raphael and I are the only ones of my brothers to have taken a life.”
Turning the cup in your hands you thought about what they had said about Donavan. “So, so they hunt you? Like daily?”
Donnie nodded, “Pretty much. They have scouts all around the city looking for us. I have hidden surveillance around our exit points to make sure we conceal our comings and goings and never leave the same place in a month twice, just in case. We have been lucky enough to keep under their radar and keep our home a secret.”
“And the buddy system is always a must.” Leo added.
“Why do you guys stay here? You do know there is a massive continent ripe for the picking. You could pretty much live anywhere. If you haven’t noticed all of the human population could probably inhabit New York at the same time. “
Leo looked around at his brothers and shrugged his shoulders. “I guess we never considered it, New York has always been home. It’s where we were born, where we grew up, where our father is buried.”
“Your father?” as the question came from your lips a loud blaring sound came from high above the massive space echoing throughout.
Immediately each one of the massive turtles sprung from their seats heading towards a wall full of monitors lit up with different feeds of what looked like tunnel systems.
Donnie typed feverishly at his keyboard pulling up codes and then several feeds popped up on the main screen in front of where he sat. “The motion detectors caught movement in the east tunnels but for some reason the live feeds aren’t picking up anything?”
Leo sprang into action, his soft calming voice transitioning into a stern commanding tone catching his brother’s attention quickly and efficiently. “Raph, and Mikey on me, we’ll go check it out and see if we can lead them back out into the streets. Don’t let them see you, scare them back into the light if we have intruders. Donnie stays here with Y/N, keep her safe and see if you can pin point their location. I want radio silence, unless you have an exact location.”
And with that and without a word the other three brothers were gone out into the sewer tunnels ready to defend their home and you. Your eyes flew to Donatello who continued to work at his station eyes moving from one monitor to the next.
“Can I do anything to help?”
“No, not at the moment. Please take a seat and stay close just in case. One of them might have gotten lucky and followed us down when we brought you down.”
Suddenly the thought of their home being compromised because they were helping you made you sick to your stomach. Watching the screens you could see them for a split second as they flew by the camera. They were so god damn fast, it was just a blur.
“You guys sure are fast for how big you are?” You moved closer to the preoccupied terrapin and watched him work. Maps began to race across the screens as his fingers worked over the keyboard in from of him. Another alarm blared, this time louder.
“That’s not good.”’ Donnie mumbled pushing his chair to another set of screens. “Leo are you there?”
“Yeah Don, did you find the problem?” the leaders voice came over the com on Donnie shoulder.
“Yeah, whoever it is they’re getting closer to the lair.”
“Shell…ok Don……emergency lock down protocol, get out of there. You know what to do next. See you soon.”
The next few moments were a blur. In that instant the tall turtle leapt from his chair moving about the lair loading a few things in the bag. “Your vehicle is just beyond those big doors. Go grab a few things to last a couple days. We need to leave it here and go on foot.”
You didn’t argue or ask questions you only did as you were instructed. You moved about the trailer grabbing things you needed stuffing them in a bag along with your roll of blades. Man this was moving way to fast, you were here for solar panels and some supplies, not a potential abduction attempt. This trip was not going as you had planned.
You could run? There was a spare set of keys in the camper and you could figure out how to open those doors? Right? Maybe? But then these four brothers had saved you from those goons and brought you down to safety, probably compromising their home. You couldn’t abandon them.
When you returned Donatello was waiting at his command center and nodded typing something into the keyboard with a few keystrokes. Soon around their home large metal doors began to slide close one by one closing off the lair from the outside.
“Let’s go!” Donatello called and hurried to the final door not waiting to see if you were following. His long legs took him across the floor but you managed to catch up to him. With one final press on the tablet on his wrist the final door shut locking you away from your only form of transport.
A large hand rested on your shoulder, “Don’t worry we’ll be back in a few days. I promise, this keeps everything safe until the heat dies down. We need to get going they’ll be waiting for us.”
You nodded and followed after him as he took down the sewer tunnel.
Several tunnels and a few dilapidated buildings later you found yourself following the tall purple turtle down into a basement. He began to type on his tablet again and lights began to snap on humming with electricity. A large metal door was unlocked and swung open revealing a large well furnished space but from the dust on the furniture it looked like it had been visited in a while. A smaller command center blinked to life in the distance while Donatello quickly occupied.
“Hmmm, that’s strange they’re not here yet? I figured they’d beat us by 10 minutes.”
Minutes turned into hours and Donnie paced the floor nervously checking his com and his systems for any sign on his three brothers. “Leo? Mike? Raph? Is anyone out there?” he called into his com resting on his shoulder.
You could hear the panic rising in his voice with the number of times he tried for them and you tried your best to stay out of his way. You had taken up a space on the old couch watching Donnie as he grew more frantic as the minutes passed.
Then yelp and the sound of someone tumbling down the stairs made you both jump from your position. Donnie pulled his bo staff out at the ready and you filled both palms with the cold steal of your blades.
“Don!” the low bass of Raphael came from the outside and a steady pounding on the door shook you both from your defensive stances.
Donatello put away his bo and rushed to open the door catching the massive brute as he fell into his outstretched arms. “Raph! What happened?! Jesus Christ!!”
You rushed forward to help brace the immense weight of the largest terrapin and without hesitation Raphael slung an arm over your shoulder allowing you to take his partial weight. He had been wounded, blood pouring from several cuts and gashes that littered his body, some looked deep. How was he still standing?
“T-they…they got ‘em Don. They got Leo and Mikey.”
When they arrived at the old Byers’ house, the sun was already over the horizon painting the sky and their surroundings with deep golden hues, pastel pinks and even some light greens. If the situation wasn't the way it was, he'd think it might even be the prettiest sight ever. Nothing would compare to the sunrises in San Diego with Y/N by his side, but there was something eerily beautiful in the view.        “They’re all most definitely asleep,” Johnathan warned placing the key in the lock and twisting it.        Billy was barely listening to what he was saying, how maybe they should talk to Joyce first, and then wake the kids up, but the second his eyes befell on Alex, he wanted to disappear.        He looked so much like Y/N; the same hair, the same eyes, just his mouth and nose were their late father’s. If there wasn’t the age difference between them, they could pass as twins. With how much taller Alex had grown, most definitely.        They were all in the living room, Mike and Lucas splayed on the couch while the rest were in sleeping bags littered around the floor. Soft snores filled the air, and Billy’s gaze befell on Max. His little sister that he used to genuinely hate, then managed to somehow tolerate and now called her family without hesitation.        Her ginger locks was a mess and even that was an understatement, nose hidden in the pillow underneath her head. A soft smile pulled up at his lips before it dropped. He’d have to involve all of them in this mess. Again.     It was his fault, and now he’d be the reason the week they were supposed to be having fun before the panic of moving to universities and colleges would start, would be replaced by fear and genuine terror.        A groggy Joyce stepped in the living room, rubbing her eyes with the back of her hand to get rid of sleep.        “What’s going on?” her raspy voice was quiet as to not wake the kids. They were practically adults, but for them, they’d always be kids.        “Y/N’s missing,” Steve whispered. “And the Demogorgon is back.”
       “What? But… that’s impossible.” Joyce shook her head. “I closed the Gate. Hop…” she struggled to get the word out and had to look to the ground. “Hopper gave his life so I could do it. I saw them pour cement down every single crack of every single door. And the one at the lab has been closed as well. We checked. Four. Years. Ago.”        Joyce looked at Will as he slowly stirred, sighed and then turned to the other side going back to sleep.       “Are you sure, the Gate’s open again?” she whispered.        Everyone simultaneously nodded.        “There’s no other explanation as to how a Demogorgon and a bunch of Demodogs could be in Hawkins again.”        “Demodogs?” it was Dustin who butted it lifting his head from the ground, a trail of drool down his cheek. “What’s going on?”        Hearing the chatter, the rest of the Party slowly woke up, small grunts escaping most of their mouths ‘cause they’d only slept for a few hours, spending most of the time watching movies and playing one last game of Dungeons & Dragons.        “El, we need your help,” Nancy was the one who spoke up and watched as the girl’s eyebrows furrowed mind still ruled by sleep.        “Why?” she yawned and stretched her neck.        “Y/N… she’s missing.”        Alex’s head whipped to the side to look at the young woman. “What do you mean by she’s missing?”        “Alex…” Joyce stepped forward ready to be a buffer between the two people, but the younger one shook his head and stood up.        “No,” he pointed at his brother-in-law, “answer me – what do you mean by Y/N’s missing?”        Billy couldn’t lift his gaze to meet Alex’s.        “Don’t make me ask again.”        Robin sighed and went to place a hand on his shoulder. “Now’s not the time.”        “Where’s my sister?!” he roared and finally got his answer, though it was one that chilled him to the core.        “I don’t know!” Billy yelled. “That fucking thing took her!”        Alex felt like he might vomit, much like Billy did. “What thing?” he got out through clenched teeth.        Billy couldn’t respond, he didn’t want to. It would mean confirming everything that had transpired since Tina’s just a couple of hours ago was real, and he didn’t want it to be.     Steve broke his silence.        “The Demogorgon.”        “That can’t be right,” Mike shook his head. “I thought it was all over when we fought that thing at the mall.”        “It’s true,” Will said and had to swallow a lump that had grown in his throat. “I – I didn’t want to believe it when I first felt it. I just thought it was the nerves cause graduation is in two days… but… I think I knew it all along, just didn’t want to admit it.”        Will’s words were what sealed it as the truth. Even though they wanted to question it more, even though they wanted to dismiss it and go back to sleep, write it off as a horrible nightmare, the fact that Steve, Billy, Robin, Nancy and Johnathan all sported cuts and bruises and looked like they were about to collapse was proof enough.        “Please,” Billy begged through tears dropping down on his knees before El, “please I need you to find her.”        She didn’t say yes, or no or anything, just that she’d need something of Y/N’s.        “Like what?”        “Anything I can use to connect to her.”        He had nothing on himself that was a piece of Y/N except… his hands trembled as fingers wrapped around his wedding band and slowly took it off. The skin was so much lighter where it had snugly sat for years, and Billy didn’t feel right without it on.        “Will this do?” he choked out looking at the golden circle. Not once in his life had it been taken off. The day Y/N had slid it along his skin and helped it rest against the base of his finger was the day he had vowed to keep her safe. Seemed fitting that Billy parted with it when he’d broken the promise.        El just nodded, not wanting to say anything that could cause more pain. She sat down on the floor crisscross, Mike turning the TV on static with the old radio as well, helping her slip a black blindfold across her eyes.        Billy knew it could take a while, but every second that El just sat there, blood trickling down her nose and towards her lip was a second of agony.        “She’s,” she finally spoke up after about five minutes, her eyebrows scrunched up in confusion. “She’s laying on the floor on her side. There’s blood on her shirt… a lot of it…”       “Is she breathing?” it was Steve who asked the question, but Billy was not about to yell at him, it was the same thing he needed to know. Had to know to figure out if he himself should keep breathing.        “I – I think so,” El nodded, wiping away a little trickle of blood from her nose. “I think she’s cold. She’s shivering. I can see her breath in the air.”        “Where is she?” Nancy tried to steer her in the right direction. It was good news to hear Y/N was fighting, but if they didn’t get to her in time, that might just be it.        El shook her head. “I don’t know. It’s a dark room… it looks like a big fridge…”        Cautiously she stepped towards where Y/N laid, and that’s when she noticed that all the shivering was not just that, but it was the woman crying her shaky breaths making her whole-body rattle.        She stepped around to look at her face, to see if she was hurt more than the slashes littering her back.    Y/N’s eyes were wide open, jaw clenched in either pain or in an attempt to stay composed. El watched as her Y/E/C orbs moved along the far end of the unmarked room as if tracking something.        “It’s the Demogorgon,” El breathed out watching the creature as well. Y/N didn’t move a muscle, as it slinked around the wall.        “What’s it doing?” Mike pressed on.        “Is it hurting her?” Alex’s voice broke in the middle of the question. She might be his older annoying ass sister, but she was his sister.        “No,” El shook her head. “He’s… pacing…? It’s like he’s guarding her. Waiting for something…”        “Guarding her?” Robin looked to Nancy and Johnathan. “I don’t remember you two mentioning it did that.”        Johnathan replied just as confused. “That’s ‘cause it didn’t.”        “Is there anything else there? Can you see anything through the door?” Mike tried to lead her in the right direction and not get distracted.        ‘No’ she motioned with her head but tilted it to the side and everyone could just imagine her squinting her eyes as if she was trying to see better. “But there’s something on wall… it’s like a vent…?”        She suddenly flinched and was bombarded with questions, but she just brushed all of them off by saying ‘something’s coming’.        Rhythmic thuds echoed through the small room, and El heard Y/N’s breathing pick up. From the corner of her eye, she saw the woman’s grip tighten around something.        “She’s holding something… Y/N… it’s a piece of a pipe…”        That’s when El sprung away, even though nothing could hurt her in the weird space in between, but it was still startling, when Y/N charged at the Demogorgon, jamming the jagged piece of metal through one of the open lapels of its mouth and running towards the vertical little window.        “Help!” Y/N screamed, trying to slam against the wall (door?), but it was just too sturdy. “In here!”        The glass shattered, and Y/N yelped shielding herself from the shards, making both of the girls spring back. As quickly as she could, El rushed to see what was on the other side but was greeted by a screeching swirling black mass. A moving red light shone through and what looked like a cash machine at the back of a diner counter sat still.        Screaming El ripped the blindfold off and fell back into Mike’s embrace.        “What happened? Is Y/N alright?”        “I don’t know,” she cried out. “The Mind Flayer attacked.”        Suddenly Billy was very light-headed to the point Max had to hold his back, to not let him fully collapse. “Her?”        El shook her head looking at Billy. “Me. It’s very angry. But it didn’t want to hurt her… it wanted to hurt you… it wants to punish you…”        A chill as sharp as an icicle went down his spine, and everyone’s gaze turned to look at him. It made sense, in a way, he just didn’t want to believe that the Mind Flayer had enough of a brain to hold a grudge, but of course, it would. And what was a better way to hurt him than hurt the one person he loved most?        “Billy, Billy look at me,” Joyce’s voice was calm and soothing, just like her palms on his cheeks. She reminded him so much of his own mother, that he couldn’t help the additional tears that feel. “We’ll find her okay? Y/N’s gonna be alright.”       He nodded not having the strength to do anything else. And that’s when he broke. Billy’s body shook with sobs as Joyce allowed him to use her shoulder to cry on, his hands grasping at her nightshirt as if he was a kid and had just woken up from a nightmare.       Fuck, how he wanted all of this to be just a nightmare. To wake up in San Diego, with early morning light filtering through their pearly curtains. With Y/N soundly sleeping next to him as he kissed her on the cheek and rushed outside for a quick swim. To come back home and have his two girls on the couch, eating breakfast with Tom & Jerry playing on the TV.        “It’s my fault,” he cried holding onto Joyce tighter. What he didn’t see was how Max had to turn away and grab Lucas’ hand. She had never seen her brother so utterly broken, it was breaking her as well.        “Because of me she went to the woods, because of me she went to the junkyard, because of me she got attacked and now, possibly will be killed. It’s all my fault.”        “Billy, don’t say that,” Max croaked. “You know Y/N loves you, she’d never blame you.”        “But it’s true,” he laughed running a hand through his hair. “It’s because of me all this bullshit’s happened.”        “You don’t know that,” Alex spoke up. He’d calmed down enough to know it was something out of Billy’s control. “She was coming to my graduation anyway. It could've happened then...”        “Yeah, but it was me who wanted to go to Tina’s fucking party, not her. And you heard El! She said the Mind Flayer was mad at me, it’s angry at me!”        No one had a response to that because, in a way, it was true. Yet had Billy not stood up against the one who’d enslaved his mind, everyone was pretty sure - all of them would’ve been dead. Yeah, Joyce and Hopper had managed to close the Gate, but the moments Billy had fended off the Mind Flayer’s monster from attacking Eleven had saved her life and in turn the lives of everyone else.        “Fine,” Billy sighed, and Joyce gave him a tight-lipped smile. “I need to uh I need to see her mom…What do I say to her mom?” There was no way he’d possibly even utter the words – hey, so the reason your daughter used to wake up in the middle of the night screaming and hyperventilating was because her best friend was killed by an interdimensional monster. And oh, yeah, she kinda fought one as well a few years back, and now she’s been kidnapped by one. And it has a personal agenda against me. So, no biggie.        “Tell her she’s staying with me,” Nancy said chewing on her nail. “Tell her we’re having a little get together until the nerds’ graduation; a girl’s night and you guys are having the same. It’s not that far off from what we used to do.”    Alex nodded. “I’ll cover for you if needed. Besides, she already knows I’m hanging ‘round Byers’ until Friday.”    There were a few places they had decided Y/N could be kept at by the description of a large fridge and a cash machine, so they had split up in little groups. Joyce, Will and Dustin would go to Benny’s, the rest would investigate the mall and visit every eating joint they could, to see if it matched what El had seen.        Billy would’ve never agreed to stay out of the search, but, in the end, had relented, when Joyce told him someone had to stay at the house.        “She might show up somewhere, and someone needs to be by the phone.”        “No, what I need to do is find my wife.”        Joyce sighed and placed a gentle hand on his chest. “Billy when was the last time you slept?”        “I don’t know, does it really matter?”        “You’re not in the right state of mind, sweetheart…”        He knew he wasn’t. At the thought of seeing the Demogorgon or any of those creatures, the only thing he saw read and knew - he wouldn’t stop to even think when presented with the chance to kill them, no matter if, in turn, his life would be in danger.        “Then what am I supposed to do? I’ll go nuts just sitting here.”        “The Mind Flayer doesn’t like you,” Max spoke up. “It wants to hurt you, punish you for what you did, for saving El and everyone else. I kinda think it knows that by hurting Y/N it hurts you. Imagine if you just so happened to walk into its trap, which it clearly is.”        Max had a point, and he hated it. There was nothing left to do but watch as everyone else piled into the respective cars, his own Camaro the only one left behind. Billy would never forgive himself if there was even one more scratch on Y/N's body. He was already the reason she was in that position.    He huffed and plopped down onto the couch. It wasn’t long before his eyes slipped closed.
***
      “Billy?” it was Y/N’s voice that made him shoot up from the couch, eyes wide in disbelief at the sight of her. He looked around and noted that he was still in the Byers’ home, but the door was unmistakably open, sunlight streaming inside. It looked like it was already dipping down, indicating he’d slept through most of the day.        He couldn’t believe the sight in front of his eyes, but Y/N was right there. Battered, bruised and covered in blood, but alive and real. And there.        “Baby? Oh my god,” his arms were instantly around her body, pulling her as close to him as possible. Desperate lips found hers in a second, and when she responded to the kiss, it was like all the worries melted away into nothing.        “Where were you? How did you get away?” his palms cupped her face, looking over every feature, trying to ingrain them in his mind. Billy didn’t think it would be possible, seeing as he already knew where each scar and birthmark was, but there was no harm in doing it again.        “I didn’t,” she shook her head taking a step back. “It let me go.”        Billy’s eyebrows furrowed. “What?”        “It just…” Y/N shrugged, “let me go.”        And that’s when he remembered, that there was no way she would be so nonchalant about everything. By what El had said, he knew Y/N’s back had to be slashed open, and she’d be in severe pain. He looked at his hands and saw black blood covering them. But he noticed it too late.        The pipe hit against the side of his head and everything went black.
***        His whole body was throbbing in pain, but most of all his head; it felt like it was on the verge of splitting open.        Billy groaned and winced, trying to lift his hand to press against his temple, but found himself unable.        “You made him mad, Billy,” Y/N tusked as if he was a toddler. “Very, very mad when you disobeyed the orders. Now, he wants to repay you the same way.”       His hands were bound behind the chair he’d been propped on. Even through his blurry vision, he could distinguish he was still at Byers’, the picture of Joyce, Will and Johnathan all smiling being the dead giveaway, and that scared him the most. It meant Y/N or rather the Mind Flayer didn’t care about being found. There wouldn’t be anything left to find once she’d done whatever the hell she wanted to.        Looking to the side, he saw a pair of tubes that he couldn’t really distinguish, but the sight of them made his stomach turn.        “It’ll look like an accident, don't worry. He wanted to make them pay as well, but it would’ve taken too much time. And we have so much to do…”       She was walking around the room, like it was nothing, like the rips across her back didn’t cause her any kind of pain. Billy was pretty sure, right now it didn’t, so he was somewhat thankful for that.    “What will look like an accident?” he prodded, trying to figure out the Mind Flayer’s game plan and buy himself some time.        Y/N shrugged. “Joyce…Nancy… Johnathan… the little buggers with them.”        It was like he was dunked in an ice-cold bath head first.        “The brakes just wouldn’t stop, and there’s that tight corner not far from here. I’m sure they’ve figured everything out by now and are on their way here but… panic makes people reckless.”        The wires… they were brake cables.        “Think about Clara,” he pleaded and had to push down the bile rising in his throat. “Think about our daughter! Y/N fight this, fight it for her! You love her! This is not you doing it, it's that fucking thing! Alex is in one of those cars!”        “You were supposed to help us stay,” she purred not listening to a single word he was saying. Billy could see how the red little veins in her eyes had turned back, her pupils dilated to an unnatural size. “You were supposed to make sure she died. Now… you’ll have to see what happens to the ones who don’t do as they’re told.”        With terror coursing through his veins he understood what she meant, or the thing possessing her meant. Billy had disobeyed, so now he would be punished. But when he thought the monster would rip him apart piece by piece, with slowly settling realization he realised that was not his punishment.        Like a mindless zombie, Y/N stood before the moving wall. A lamb ready for slaughter. And only one creature made entrances like that.        Billy struggled against the ropes, the material cutting into his skin, no doubt leaving bleeding red marks on his flesh, but that was nothing to the all-consuming fear of seeing the Demogorgon tear apart the apartment’s wall and drop into the living room.        The TV was going haywire, and he thought he could hear his own car wailing even through the ringing in his ears. A sharp pain went through his knee, and he heard something crash to the floor but didn't care about what it was.        “Y/N, please don’t! I know you’re in there.”        Her eyes were soulless as she looked at him. “This was your fault, Billy.”        But she didn’t even get to make a move towards the monster, as the door slammed open to the house. It was a split second of a distraction, but it was enough for an invisible force to fling the Demogorgon against the wall, and enough time for the other assailant to wrap his hands around Y/N's throat and lift her above the ground.        Her hands gripped around the palms squeezing her neck. They were strong, and with every passing moment she was losing consciousness more and more, but right before succumbing to the darkness that promised nothing but sleep, her Y/E/C eyes looked up to glance into Jim Hopper’s blue gaze.        “Hop?” she choked out.        “Sorry kiddo,” and he squeezed a bit more until her eyes rolled to the back of her head, and her body went limp in his grasp.        Gently, like Y/N was made of glass, Hopper laid her out on the floor, careful not to put her in the shards of the broken coffee table that Billy's leg had kicked against and destroyed it while trying to get out from his restraints.        A beat passed, everyone in a complete state of shock, not only by his sudden appearance but by his resurrection, heroic act and subsequently the aftermath.        “You fucking killed her!” Alex yelled, rushing past the ex-Chief to his sister’s side and knelt down much like Billy was already pushing strands of Y/H/C hair out of Y/N's face, two fingers desperately checking for a pulse while the other boy held a piece of glass against her nose to see if she was breathing        Hopper slumped against the wall. “I didn’t kill her, I made her pass out!”        “Yeah, by choking her to death!” Mike screamed back, even though he was ecstatic to see Hopper again.        His body was thinner, but not in a sense of ‘I’ve been working out’, but ‘my meals consisted of a piece of bread and a glass of water. Sometimes the bread was so uneatable, I could carve paintings on the wall’.        “Do I need to remind you she tried to kill you first?”        “It wasn’t her it was the Mind Flayer!” Mike said.        “Yeah, in her body!” Hopper replied again, not even thinking about apologizing. “I just saved your lives you ungrateful little shi-“        “Hop…” Joyce’s palm cupped his cheek, and he leaned into the soft touch the anger melting away in a second. He hadn’t felt something so sweet in four years, going on five. She had walked into the house right when he’d lowered Y/N to the ground, not believing at all what she was seeing. “How are you alive?”        “Russians,” was the one word he said. It kinda didn’t need elaboration.        El had been stuck to his side, the second she was done keeping the Demogorgon away, arms wrapped around his middle, the. It had slinked back into the carved-up wall and disappeared with one last screech. But she was one hundred per cent sure it’d rear its ugly head again.        By that point, everyone had gathered back inside the Byers’ place. Nancy had converged with Joyce when they were on their way back and noticed something was leaking from her car. They’d been lucky that the speed they’d been driving in was slow, given how both vehicles were missing their brake cables.       “What do we do?” Steve asked the trusty bat with nails he’d been holding now lowered to the floor. “We can’t just leave her like this with that… thing inside of her.”        “He likes it cold,” Billy sneered as he leaned down and lifted Y/N, pressing her body tighter to his hoping that his warmth made the demon inside of his wife squirm in discomfort. “He put her in a fucking freezer… So, let’s put him in a sauna.”
Tumblr media
High school had ripped almost all of the Losers up into shreds. The others were far too eager to leave Derry. And they did. After Beverly, Bill’s parents moved him away before their freshman year of high school was even over. Then Eddie talked his mom into moving as well, a little later, after their junior year. That was after he’d realized he was in love with Richie and had panicked after seeing Richie kiss Ben, who was crazy missing Beverly. Apparently they’d picked up an interesting friends with benefits thing.
After graduation, the rest of them were gone too. Except Mike. And Stan.
Stan wanted to go. He wanted to escape this stupid town and all the horrors it refused to let him forget. He wanted to run away from everything too. It seemed that when people left Derry - especially the Losers, who knew more about the town than anyone else - they forgot. The Losers forgot IT, but also each other. It was apparent first when Beverly stopped returning their calls and letters. Next when Bill did the same thing. Even more so when Eddie followed their lead, breaking Ben and Richie’s hearts even more.
Stan didn’t want to forget. Maybe escaping the memory of this hell hole would be nice, but not if it meant forgetting Mike.
Through high school, Mike and Stan found a weird place of safety and warmth in each other. While the world raged, hot and hard and painful, they found softness in each other. A cool breeze on a hot day. A bottle of water in the middle of the desert. A warm shower after a day trekking through snow. They were drawn to each other he same way Richie and Eddie were drawn to each other and Bev, Bill, and Ben were drawn to each other. Though Ben and Bill would never admit to that last bit.
When Eddie freaked out over Ben and Richie, it just became painfully clear. Mike and Stan were in love with each other.
Mike had an easier time with this than Stan did. Especially when he still lived with his parents, who were very religious and kept drilling into his mind that two men loving each in that way was wrong in every sense of the word. It was hard to recognize feelings that not only his family scorned, but also when said emotions were literally getting people killed in Derry.
Stan was in denial for a very long time. Wondering what made Mike so special. Wondering why he felt and reacted the way he always did when he saw or was near or even just thought about Michael Hanlon.
Then he moved out of his parents’, taking part in this business that allowed him to call people, working from a distance. It allowed him to stay in Derry, which should have been a bummer, except it wasn’t. Mike and him moved in together, using the excuse that they could split rent. They even got a two bedroom apartment, going to the same local college so they could get one car and save gas. Mike eventually got a job at the Derry library, and Stan’s little business soon took off. Which was ironic, since everyone had doubted him before.
They did well for themselves. Very well, actually. They were happy and took care of each other and graduated high school with a lot less stress and debt than most college kids. Out of school and away from family, it was easy to grow... close. Stan did most of the house cleaning and grocery shopping and general home keeping up, since Mike was at work most of the time, while Stan worked at home. Mike did most of the cooking though. It was perfect.
Well, almost perfect.
Every once in a while their gazes would meet and it was shy and they would find themselves buzzing and warm, like sitting in a warm room that wasn’t too hot but just nice. Cozy. Sometimes one of them wouldn’t be able to sleep and they’d fall asleep together on the couch. Or one of them would have a nightmare and the other would climb into bed with them, or they would climb into bed with the other. Sometimes the only way to get Stan to calm down was to play with his hair like his mom used to, easing him to sleep. Since Stan basically curled around Mike, Mike was unable to stand up and leave after Stan was finally asleep. And he didn’t want to, even if he could have.
Sometimes they went to church together, though they did that less and less as time passed and they grew closer. One time Stan had rested his head on Mike’s shoulder without thinking. It was bad enough to the people in the congregation that Mike was black, but seeing the two men be close and affectionate? Yeah no. Derry was still far too small minded and dangerous for that kind of stuff.
It confused Stan why people treated Mike they way they did. Mike was sweet and caring and attentive and considerate. He was amazing and handsome and cuddly and gave the best hugs. His smile light up the world and made the sun itself a little brighter, a little warmer. Made life more bearable. Made everything a little more interesting and exciting. Mike was... beautiful.
It was when Mike, sleepy, woke up one morning to Stan cooking that Stan finally realized what was up with his head and heart. Mike had had a really rough night and it was nearing 10am, several hours after Mike usually got up. At least it was his day off. Stan had decided to make him breakfast to try and start today off well, since he’d had a bad day previously.
Mike came in, his face sleepy and his feet dragging, his shoulders sagging and his smile soft and goofy. Stan didn’t think anything about the way Mike was approaching him until he put his arms around Stan from behind, resting his chin on Stan’s shoulder.
Stan almost burned the food.
“Sorry,” Mike mumbled, leaning away. “You’re just so warm...”
“No wait!” Stan caught his arm. He hesitated and then pulled Mike back, turning to the food again. Much more awake now, Mike slowly wrapped his arms back around Stan’s waist and replaced his chin. For a few seconds it was tense and Stan kept having to remind himself about the eggs so he didn’t ruin them, but eventually it was easy.
This was easy.
Mike was easy.
How could anything that had to do with Mike ever be wrong?
Stan eased the eggs onto a plate and then put the pan in the sink, to clean later. The second that was taken care of, he spun around and grabbed Mike’s shirt, pulling him close. They both met eagerly, Mike completely awake now.
Mike’s hold was firm but soft. His kiss was soft and slow. Everything about him was sensual and for the first time in his life, Stan didn’t notice the bitter aftertaste of unbrushed teeth in the morning. The drilled thoughts from this stupid town and his parents didn’t matter. IT didn’t matter. All his other friends having moved on and forgetting them didn’t matter. Nothing mattered.
Only Mike.
When they separated, it was hard for both of them to open their eyes They stayed close, their lips still touching a second before they shifted so their foreheads rested against each other, their noses bumping each other’s affectionately as they nuzzled closer. Mike leaned into Stan, pressing him into the counter.
“I love you,” Mike whispered. “I have for a while.”
Stan felt giddy. “It took me so long to realize... I’m such an idiot.” They both chuckled breathlessly, Mike shaking his head.
“You’re not an idiot.”
There was silence, both of them taking each other in. Finally Stan leaned away, both of them opening their eyes. “I love you too.” He leaned again, desperately wanting to kiss Mike again. Mike went to go on with that slow kiss again but Stan didn’t have the patience for it this time. He kissed Mike harder, putting the break between kisses more closely together. Mike reacted instantly, pressing into him more. Their hold on each other tightened.
Stan pulled away, Mike trailing after him. He smirked, leaning close to whisper something in Mike’s ear before moving his lips to the skin of Mike’s neck. Mike shivered.
They’d have to eat the eggs later. Right now they had... other things to take care of.
At least now, they’d have plenty of time to do both for the rest of their lives. Forget anything and anyone else.
