There is a lot about me and my life. You would eventually learn about (some of) them.

The stars, sky, light & color are everything…
Let’s take a moment and acknowledge a deep gratitude for being able to see. When everything feels so dark and hopeless; think about the strength and fortitude of blind people, for instance. Close your eyes and envision a life in the dark for a minute. Then go back to yourself, open your eyes and pick 3 things you can see at your presence — say it out loud: “I can see …”
Finally, say: “Thank you.”
Know that there is always someone out there who has way worse issues and conditions. Being thankful is one of the best methods of grounding, preserving one’s sanity and receiving blessings from the divine forces.
So blessed be ✨

on the window sill, she sits- the moon.
placing pearls on my pillow case.
“to say i've never met you would be a lie,
I have known you countless times, in infinite ways.
Seen you cry, scream, wail for endless days
And though I offer you these truths, you refuse them each time.
They lay in arms reach, yet it never fails
You will always choose your pain- It is too familiar.”
It so struck me, as her words pooled on my pillow
I've never felt that which has not been felt before.
All that I am, pretend to be, has been written, shredded, lived, breathed, overplayed- belittled
A million times
In a billion ways.
To whine, moan, complain- for what?
It does not make one more special, nor any different than those that came before
Those that follow behind.
The moon pretends to smoke a cigarette.
Looks past her glow to the stars
Shimmering in anticipation for her return.
Ash settles on the pearls.
“There will be more of me?”
“There already is. And with you, hundreds more like them.”
Brushing the soot off a pearl, I take its cool weight in my palm.
Tear shaped, quarter-sized, and glistening in Her light.
She does not spare me a glance.
One long, smooth drag
Smoke billowing to the dawn
She flicks it to the snow
Stands in grace
Stretches
And finally meets my eye.
“I’ve got to get going.”
I take the pearl in my mouth,
Press it to my cheek- stand with her.
“They will not understand.”
“They will. It has already been done.”

When fire no longer lights my person,
come to my grave and tell me all that's unsaid.
Then, nothing of sorts between us will be held,
and in the heavens we'll meet as long lost friends.

Deirdre's Accordian - a poem on Visual Verse
I am delighted that Visual Verse chose to include my poem on page 30 of the latest issue, Volume 10 Chapter 7. The image is not a modern or surreal one, as they often are, but a classical painting by John Everett Millais. It really caught my imagination and that of the other contributors. All the pieces, prose and poetry, are fantastic. I recommend reading them all – or you can go directly to my…

No One Knows
An old woman says to me: 'You are unhappy'. She then precariously holds the handle of a cup of tea between her thumb and forefinger, sticks out her chin. A young woman smoking beside her turns around and says over my shoulder: 'You are unhappy'. Her unbrushed hair is bunched on top of her head and some bits of biscuit are spilled from the edges of her mouth onto the breast of her T-shirt.
Under a wonderfully sunny sun. Wonderfully cheerful accordion band playing. At a pavement café in the early morning, a street sweeper is relaxing in a daze with a cup of coffee. An ant is swimming peacefully in a drop of spilt milk on the table. The street sweeper in overalls brushes off an olive that has fallen on his lap, takes a book out of the bag at his feet and begins to read it intently. The book has a familiar title on its cover.
It was a book I had written. For a long time I was alone at the bottom of the deep sea. The dim moonlight passed through the water and illuminated tenderly my writing pad. Every morning, a swarm of sardines formed a dense cylindrical formation and became a pneumatic tube system, express delivering postcards of ports from straits all over the world. Every afternoon, my small fantasies with compressed air were delivered to the publishers through the tube. Before long, I ran out of paper and pen ink, but the story I wrote became a bestseller.
People walk down the street with books in their arms, no one knows it is my story. No one knows that the old woman comes to the café with her meagre pension hidden in her hat, no one knows that the accordion band is missing one of its members, much less that the smoking woman has changed her brand of cigarettes. I have no way of knowing whether the book that the road sweeper shoved into his overalls pocket will be taken home and become his dream under his pillow or incinerated in a waste disposal plant. It is no use crying for a tale of the ant drowned over spilt milk.

I look in the mirror, and all I see are the women lost to time. We share a familiar gaze with eyes of ocean blue lost in a current so deep we’ve forgotten how to breathe, but oh, how we scream. Her life was forgotten along the way, erased for a role she was obliged to play, a contract bound from breath to stone. Rattling cages and rattling bones, she begs and begs for what we’re owed, for what she gave so that I might have a fraction of the hunger that drove her mad. With her soul passed on, she haunts my every want. What more could this world give: a lover and a husband she bled red. How they love to tell the tale of the murderess they hung for being female. No trial could save her now, but alas justice prevails. Her brunette locks run down my spine, staking her claim at what’s mine. With each gaze, she speaks to me, defying the confines of history. Hidden in her demise of deep blue siren eyes, I know the truth. They burned the witch for heresy, insisting she brought men to their knees, out of bitter pride, Lilith in disguise, but we all know that’s a lie because freedom only comes at a price, so she paid them her due, and they killed her without the proof, and without knowing what her descendants could do when they stumbled upon their crimes. We’ll burn down the world in her name, for filled in all of our rage are the women lost to time, united are the daughters of the night.
