The journey of a thousand miles, it seems, begins with a half-dozen trains.

We left Canberra just before 7am, travelling by the Xplorer train service as far as Campbelltown. Normally this service would take us all the way into Sydney, but the spectre of trackwork loomed over us and we had to change to the suburban network. We caught a train from Campbelltown to Wolli Creek, changed there, and carried on to Hurstville, which was to be our base of operations for the weekend. We left our stuff there and returned to the station, catching a fourth train to Town Hall.

I am something of a regular at Peter Nathan Toy Soldiers, by which I mean I go there maybe twice a year. I am sure this counts as being a regular. One might perhaps find it paradoxical that I wax philosophical about the horrors of war while collecting my little pewter troopers. My response is to paraphrase the great author H. G. Wells, who, when the paradox of his being a pacifist and an avid miniature wargamer was brought up, responded that ‘tin soldiers do not leave tin widows and tin orphans.’ And I like to think I have a bit of taste as to what I collect - I don’t collect wounded soldiers (as much as I tease Mum about getting that bayoneted Jacobite - she likes Outlander, you see), and the SS are completely verboten, thank you very much. But I am also keenly aware that this hobby attracts what we might charitably call oddballs. I overheard the owner in a discussion about how the most popular topics for toy soldier collection are Romans and the Nazis. Make of that what you will.

Perhaps I’m being too judgemental. I’m sure there are people who think my collection of British redcoats is problematic. Not everyone with an interest in the Nazi military is a neo-Nazi - but these days, I find it helps to maintain a healthy scepticism.

After this, I headed down to Darling Harbour and walked around the precinct of the National Maritime Museum. There’s little WWI-related there, of course - I’m not certain a single WWI Australian ship survives - but it’s still always well worth a look. One thing that annoys me is the new ‘action stations’ building - I’m sure it’s an excellent educational aid, but it blocks what used to be a good photographic angle of HMAS Vampire’s port side. I had hoped to see the replica of Janzoon’s Dufkyen, but it seems it was at sea when I was there. The submarine Onslow and the patrol boat Advance seemed in good order, and the Endeavour replica was a delight to look over as always. Of particular note was the Krait, a captured Japanese fishing boat used by Australian and British commandos in a sabotage operation in Singapore harbour - it tends to be obscured by something when I go to the museum, so it was nice to see it unobstructed today.

After that, I walked back to the Queen Victoria Building via JB-HI-FI, where I picked up a bluetooth mouse that doesn’t work. I suppose that’s twenty dollars I’ll never see again. We caught the train back to Hurstville, picked up some groceries and some KFC, and returned to the hotel, where I write this now. Tomorrow, we’ll be heading in to Hyde Park Barracks and the Anzac Memorial, and taking a trip on the ferry to Manly. I’m sure I’ll have a little more to say about all that.

A Strange Loop Is Leaving Broadway Early Next Year

Michael R. Jackson's Tony-Award-winning Best Musical A STRANGE LOOP has 14 more weeks on Broadway. The musical opened at the Lyceum Theatre on April 26th to critical acclaim. Tony Award nominee Stephen Brackett is the director of A STRANGE LOOP, Raja Feather Kelly is the choreographer, and Barbara Whitman Page 73 Productions, Wolly Mammoth Theatre Company and Playwrights Horizons are the producers.

A STRANGE LOOP won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and was named Best Musical by the Tony Awards the New York Drama Critics’ Circle, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, Drama League, and Off-Broadway Alliance. Michael R. Jackson also won the Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical for A STRANGE LOOP. Jaquel Spivey was awarded the Drama Desk Award for Best Actor in a Musical, the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Actor in a Musical, and a Theatre World Award.

Jaquel Spivey stars as Usher who is a Black queer writer writing a musical about a Black queer writer writing a musical hence the uncanny identity loop. Usher uses humor and truth to transcend his self perceptions while finding his artistic voice. Creator Michael R. Jackson says, "Though A STRANGE LOOP is not autobiographical, it is my life's work. As such, I feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to share this raw, vulnerable, and personal story with the world and to have connected with so many enthusiastic, loving audiences. I am also indebted to the many extraordinary collaborators and institutions past and present that made the telling of this unique story possible. You each will have a piece of my heart, soul, and my loop forever.”

The show made its world premiere at Playwrights Horizons, in May 2019, in association with Page 73 Productions. In December 2021, the show had a critically acclaimed run at Washington, D.C.’s Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company prior to coming to Broadway. When the musical closes on January 15th it will have played 301 regular and 13 preview performances for audiences that have included Queen Latifah, Michelle Obama, Whoopi Goldberg and Billy Porter.

Ghostlight Records and Yellow Sound Label released the original Broadway cast recording of A STRANGE LOOP on June 10, 2022.

A STRANGE LOOP's performance schedule is Tuesday and Thursday at 7pm; Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday at 8pm, with matinees Wednesday and Saturday at 2pm; and Sunday at 3pm. Fly High, Miga 🐰

Hi Miga.

You were adopted on September 22, 2022 and as of the moment I am writing this is October 20, 2022. Our togetherness was not even a month, it breaks my heart.

First time I saw you at the pet shop, I didn't even bother to adopt you. I was busy buying some birds' foods. When I was about to leave, I saw you and your other friends were staring at me, following my steps from inside the small cage.

At home I just couldn't stop thinking about you. The next day I decided to adopt some rabbits. But you were not in my option yet. I adopted Boram and Hyuna, as the seller was pretty sure Hyuna was a male. "They are better in couple", she said. Days after, I learned that both Boram and Hyuna are female. I then remember you. I went back to the pet shop and adopted you without hesitation.

"We are going home", I said to you.

Time flies fast. Ayu is the one who taking care of you three as I am usually busy with works. I visited you everyday. I fed you. Gave you your favorite snack,- you loved strawberry!

This morning, 9am Ayu called me saying you fainted and didn't move. Time went by so slow. I held you in my arms. I kept you warm and tucked you in my thick hoodie. I put you in a box on my desk while I was doing some works, yes I was in a rush, Miga but my eyes were locked at you.

11:19 you cried. You moved your body, trying to find a comfortable position in this warm card box. I petted you gently. Fed you water, and held you for a minute and put you back. "Kenapa Miga? Tidurlah, dek. Tapi cepat bangun ya. Nanti kita makan strawberry".

Two minutes after that, you cried again and stopped moving. That's the moment I felt sick to the stomach. I pressed your chest over and over again "God don't take him, please. I can do better". I put you again in my arms.

There was no signs. You were no longer moving. Your sparkly eyes were no longer responding. Your heart stopped beating.

You died in my arms.

You didn't even give me a chance to make it up with you. I told you I can do better.

I cried and hugged you tight, and looked up some informations on Youtube, I still tried to wake you up, hoping you would open your eyes.

It was 11:57.

I had to accept the fact you were gone.

Forever, Miga.

I watched your eyes closed slowly. Your body became colder. Your nails turned black. I am such a failure, Miga. I thought I was giving you a better life. Sorry I failed you. God punish me.

I will take care of Boram, Hyuna, and Corint better. Please forgive me, Miga.

A Cowboy in Amish Country is a heartfelt story that explores the Amish and English values. Unlike most Amish books, this story had an Amish woman, Sue Schmidt, deciding to leave the Amish fold. She feels stifled by the culture and even though she is pregnant, to be a single mom, she does not want to give up the life she loves of herding and working on a ranch. Unfortunately for the English rancher, Wilder Westhouse, that has hired her, Sue’s family lives next door. This story is a great read where readers will take the journey with Sue.

The Amish Matchmaking Dilemma has a progressive Amish woman, Naomi Peachy wanting to share her culture with the English. But she needs the help of the bishop to agree and seeks the help of her childhood friend, Mose Klassen, who is now an Amish scholar. He is initially against any connection with the English, afraid that the Amish culture will be influenced. In addition, Naomi has become his speaking tutor to try to help him find a wife and overcome his stutter. Sparks fly between the two and they soon recognize each other’s worth.

Patricia Jones’ knows how to tug at reader’s hearts with her great characters and plot line. Both stories are uplifting, inspirational, and after reading them people will look forward to the next books.

Elise Cooper: How did you get the idea for the stories?

Patricia Jones: I’m often asked where I get my ideas from, and honestly, I don’t really know! I walk around with story ideas rattling around in my head all the time. I normally start with a certain kind of story I’d like to write, and it builds from there. Sometimes it starts with a character I want to write about, and other times it’s as simple as wanting to write a marriage or convenience, or a Beauty and Beast sort of story. Whatever tickles my fancy at the time.

But with that said, for both books, the inspiration began with the characters.

For A Cowboy in Amish Country, I wanted to write the story of Sue Schmidt, Wollie Schmit’s scandalous little sister who no one forgot after she ran away. What happened to her? And what about her happily ever after? And that is how the story grew.

For The Amish Matchmaking Dilemma, Naomi Peachy is a character from the last book of another series (Redemption’s Amish Legacies, Love Inspired books), and I pitched the story to my editor who suggested that we use her story to start a new spinoff miniseries. This new miniseries is called Amish Country Matches, and it follows six Amish women who the community matchmaker is determined to find matches for.

EC: Why did you have one of the characters stutter?

PJ: I knew Naomi would need a man who’d match her strength. I decided upon Mose’s stutter because my son has a stutter, although not as debilitating as Mose’s. I see how hard my son works to overcome it, and the different strategies he comes up with for school presentations. So that got me to thinking about how much goes on inside of a man that he never says out loud, and how we women long to hear all of it. A story was born.

EC: How much is true about the Amish-including Ordnung?

PJ: I do a lot of research for my Amish stories. The Ordnung is a real collection of rules for a community. Each community has their own Ordnung, and it changes very slowly. Each Amish community is a little bit different. They might have slightly different clothing requirements, or different expectations when it comes to technology. Some communities have no issues with cell phones. Some don’t even have running water! Each community is unique, which is very useful for an author. I create fictional Amish communities that would be much like many real communities, but are still fictional, so I have some flexibility.

EC: Is it a rare case where someone does not return to the Amish-why did you do it?

PJ: In A Cowboy in Amish Country, my heroine ends up staying outside the Amish way of life and marrying her Englisher cowboy. I hope that doesn’t ruin anything for future readers! But if you know romance novels, then you know that Sue and Wilder would end up together. I decided to have Sue marry Wilder and live a life “on the fence,” so to speak, between two cultures, because I think that is something many of us do! I married a man born in Africa, and our relationship and our life is a unique blend of both cultures. As a lot of us grow up, we find our own paths, and the church, or the way of life our parents raised us doesn’t always fit in our adult years. I wanted to show that struggle for Sue. She was raised Amish and she loves the heritage her family gave her, but it doesn’t fit anymore. She loves riding herd and working with cattle. Her skills just don’t fit into the Amish expectations. But how does she make peace with that? How do you keep a family close when you’ve dashed their hopes for you? That was the complicated knot I wanted to work through in this novel.

EC: How would you describe Sue?

PJ: Sue is true to herself. I think that is the core of her. She knows what she wants, and what she’s good at, and she isn’t willing to lie to anyone, including herself. She was born and raised Amish, that will always be an integral part of her, but she doesn’t fit into the Amish life. Being an Amish wife would crush her spirit. She thinks she might be willing to live in those confines for the sake of her baby, but even then, she can’t pretend she’s anything but the complicated woman she is. I loved her honesty. She’s just so determined to live her life authentically that pretending to be anything she isn’t impossible. She’s pregnant, and she won’t apologize for that! She’s willing to accept her life as it comes and do the best she can.

EC: Could you identify with Sue?

PJ: Personally, I really identified with Sue, since I grew up in a conservative church that no longer fits me in my adult years, either. And yet, I love everything my parents gave me in my upbringing. I hope other readers connect with her, too, and see themselves in her.

EC: Do you think she was caught between two worlds: Amish and English-going home or having her freedoms?

PJ: Yes. Her Amish background offered her an “easy” solution. If she just cooperated and went home, she could be a stay-at-home mom for her little one. No worries about paying rent or figuring out a childcare solution. But that came with all the strings attached, and she doesn’t believe that the Amish way of life is the only way to live anymore. The big issue is that her Amish family won’t accept halfway. Sue has found a way to use her own skills as a ranch hand. It’s in no way shocking for Englishers. But for her Amish family; Pure scandal! If she goes home, she must be Amish, 100%. They believe women should stay in the home, cooking, cleaning, preserving food, sewing, and doing hand crafts, which she refuses. She’ll never be part of the family in the same way, either. Either way, she’s losing something very important to her.

EC: What about her “English life”?

PJ: Her “English” life is what fits her most comfortably. She loves working with cattle and riding herd. She loves using her skills and that feeling of freedom on horseback. She can’t have that in the Amish world—that’s men’s work. But with Englisher freedom comes a lot more complications. She’s going to be a single mother—and there is nothing easy about that! What’s best for her? What’s best for her baby? What’s even possible? She’s stuck.

EC: Why the comparison with Annie Oakley?

PJ: Annie Oakley was an adventurous woman who became a sharpshooter in Buffalo Bill’s Wild West shows in the 1800’s. She didn’t stick with women’s roles of her day, either. She used her skills and created this fabulous life for herself that defied all of society’s expectations. Sue is a lot like her.

EC: What is the theme?

PJ: For me, the theme was balancing your upbringing with your present self. Who did you used to be? Who were you raised to be? And who are you authentically now?

EC: Describe Wilder:

PJ: Wilder inherited the ranch along with his brother Conrad a few years earlier. For Wilder, this is a fresh start. He stopped drinking, and he’s proving to himself and everyone around him that he can be better than he was. But the land they inherited is smack in the middle of Amish country. Wilder is an outsider, but he sees something in the Amish life that really appeals to him. They’re stable, reliable, and steady people. That’s very attractive to a recovering alcoholic. He’s worked hard to be accepted by his neighbors, but if he follows his heart with Sue, they’ll block him out. He’ll have betrayed his Amish neighbors in a personal way, and what can a new rancher do without the help of neighbors? Wilder uses his work as therapy, so when he hires Sue to help him on the ranch, she’s being welcomed into the most personal part of his life. The ranch is everything to Wilder!

EC: Describe the relationship?

PJ: Wilder and Sue have an immediate connection. They’re both lost souls—they’re both trying to figure out who they are. For Wilder, he’s heard stories of Sue for years, and she’s like the stuff of local legend. When he meets her in the flesh, he’s a little bit in love with her already. For Sue, Wilder is strong, handsome, capable, and calm. He’s everything she needs right now, but she knows that she’s a liability for him. They can’t help how they feel about each other, but if they give in to their feelings and stay together, they both lose a lot!

EC: Role of Wollie, Sue’s brother?

PJ: Wollie is complicated character, because he represents everything most conservative in the Amish culture, but he’s also Sue’s brother. She feels no obligation to act in the “feminine” way her brother expects. They grew up together. They looked out for each other. But when Sue left, she left Wollie behind and he felt personally betrayed. And yet, they’re still siblings. They fight, argue, and truly love each other. He will always be passionately Amish. And Sue will always be his little sister, even if she won’t toe the line, he wants her to. Her brother is very protective of her, and in the end, Wollie is the one who helps Wilder to embrace some of the Amish culture and become more a part of their family.

EC: In The Amish Matchmaking Dilemma describe Mose:

PJ: Mose is a cautious man. He grew up with a debilitating stutter, and he found his outlet through writing. But talking? That’s the hard part. It’s held him back romantically. Women couldn’t see what was going on inside of him, and he couldn’t tell them very well, either. But Mose longs for love and marriage, and he decides to get the help of a matchmaker from another community. He thinks that careful planning can make up for lost time.

EC: Describe Naomi:

PJ: Naomi is energetic, free-spirited, happy, impulsive, a chatterbox. She’s fun-loving, and she truly enjoys connecting with people. That’s why she’s passionate about building bridges between the Amish and the Englishers. How can we help others if we keep them at arm’s length, she argues?

EC: Describe the relationship:

PJ: Naomi and Mose were friends as children. Naomi was the fun one, and Mose just cooperated. It was all Noami needed, really, and she dragged Mose along with her on her adventures. Mose was smitten from childhood onward. But he knows that she’s far too progressive for him, and she can talk right over him with no effort at all. He doesn’t think a relationship with Naomi would work, even if he could convince her that he was worth her heart.

EC: Amish versus English?

PJ: In this book, Naomi is eager to welcome Englishers into their midst so that the Amish can share the beauty of their culture and their faith. How can you be a witness to people when you won’t have a real, honest, personal relationship with them? But the Amish only stay unique and different if they keep outside influences away, and that’s the problem. If they keep to themselves, there is safety and uniformity. If they open their doors and tear down the fences, how can they maintain their unique lifestyle? How can they protect their children from outside influences? But we Englishers wish we could get an inside view of their world. We long to belong with them, don’t we? It’s why we read books with Amish characters and delve into the Amish world through fiction.

EC: Next book?

PJ: My next book that’s coming out in March 2023 is called Her Amish Country Valentine. This is the first book in a brand-new miniseries called The Butternut Amish B&B. This miniseries is about an Amish bed-and-breakfast owner and Amish matchmaker named Belinda Wickey who connects with her Englisher guests as they stay with her and get a view into her Amish world. Belinda is unique in that she pulls her guests right into the middle of her life and gives them a truly inside view into her Amish community. The first book has a workaholic marketing whiz who is staying with her Amish great-aunt Belinda for her sister’s Valentine’s Day wedding. When she lies to her sister and says that she has a date to the wedding, the carpenter working on her aunt’s kitchen cabinets volunteers to be her date as long as it isn’t a lie! He needs them to spend some time together before the big day.

After reading a bit of Sailor Moon, I have to wonder how I could pull off a “leader is revealed to be the lost royalty” trope for my magical girl series. Futari Wa Pretty Cure does this too, but makes it the odd girl out that didn’t follow a cure theme (what with there being Cure Black and Cure White, meanwhile we got Shining Luminous over here). I always love those kinds of reveals, but I want to do it a la Rose Quartz is Pink Diamond from Steven Universe. All of the hints and foreshadowing. I want people to try and put the pieces together. I feel that makes reading the story all the more fun if people can interact with the story and make theories.

MY HGTV OBSESSION IS FINALLY PAYING OFF

so ollie and wicks spend the majority of their free time watching hgtv and designing fake little houses and shit and after college they go into their respective fields (nursing? teaching? motivational speaking?) happy enough because they like their jobs but a couple years down the line jack and bitty have bought a house and they’re remodeling to make it perfect for them and they cannot not find one designer willing to deal with bitty’s high maintenance attitude (it’s his kitchen guys) and jack is just no help at all (”er, i don’t know? they all look nice?” ugh no help)

SO in come their friends from college who they kept in touch with because they’re a big lovey dovey family of love. everyone knew how much ollie and wicks loved home design and hgtv and whatever, so bitty hires them and IT’S PERFECT. they know how to deal with bitty’s attitude from when he was their captain and they’re mad efficient and have great suggestions to make bitty’s dream a reality AND IT’S SWAWESOME

but that’s really it for a while. they help remodel bitty and jack’s house and go back to their jobs and that’s it. THEN bitty is featured in some fancy cooking magazine and there’s a photo shoot of him in his kitchen and everyone is dying over how gorgeous it is and they ask who did their remodel and bitty names ollie and wicks.

this is when things start to go really weird, because suddenly there’s a representative from HGTV at their house (who gave them the address?) and they’re saying that they want to pay for them to start up a show even though they have little to no actual experience renovating houses (they helped their respective parents, and they’ve got projects all around their house, but aside from bitty and jack’s house it’s like nothing?) and then there’s this really lengthy contract being put in front of them and they’re like Wut.

they have their lawyer read it over (Mr. Crappy at your service) and agree to a one-season contract because you know what? they like their jobs but this sounds fun and their kids (they have two, a four year old boy and a little toddler who loves to sit on her daddy’s shoulders and direct everything) think it could be fun and they deserve it, okay? they like this stuff and if they make money, great, if not, they could always say they tried.

so queue a fixer-upper style show but with two bro-ed out guy parents and their fucking adorable kids going around fixing up shitty houses and selling them to people who need good homes at fairly affordable prices and the show takes off and they’re raking in all this cash and they’re just so happy and gay it’s GREAT

also maybe there’s a reunion episode with all the guys from the team where they renovate the Haus-- which has fallen into near-unliveable conditions through the years-- and the couch is still there! and bitty nearly burns it but shitty saves it and now it’s sitting in his and lardo’s living room and they think there’s something living in it BUT THE MEMORIES and they walk into the attic and there’s an emotional scene where they’re like “this is where we fell in love.” and the producer/cameraman or whatever is like “oh? how’d that happen?” and ollie and wicks are like “two twin beds would have ruined the design so we got a queen and ended up realizing how much we loved each other by the end of the semester”

I JUST SAW YOUR DAVID!TARZAN AU AND AHHHHHHH! PLEASE TELL ME MORE!!!!!!!!!!

i’m completely ignoring my modern drama class to tell you this because 1) i love tarzan!au more than ANYTHING 2) theatre kids are making my life hell right now 3) did i mention loving the tarzan!au more than ANYTHING?

SO.

david fell in love without even knowing what love is. but when he finds out what love is, what it means, he cannot imagine his life without that word.

he hears her reading aloud to him as she tries to teach him to read, and she is reading from a book of poetry. her cheeks get red, and he leans in, looking at the pages. is something wrong with the pages? is that why she is blushing?

but, no. it’s reading to him of love. she reads him these love poems and flushes as the words stir her heart, and as david listens he finds himself understanding them, even if they’re strange and fancy.

“and of you, my love, what can i say spare that the sun pales in brightness when compared to you?,” she reads, voice trembling, and david stops her.

“what was that one?”

“which one?”

“that one. love.” his dark eyes are intense, and he wants to know. he wants to understand.

“oh. um, love means many things,” replies his girl, suddenly fixated on fidgeting with the pages of her book, flicking them back and forth. “when it’s a verb, it means to care for someone else above all others. to want to spend your life with them, making them happy, growing by their side.”

david grunts and nods, asking her to go on.

“um, and as a noun, it means the feeling inside of you, the thing that calls you to want to be with them, the thing that feels like-” she doesn’t know how to verbalize it, so she flutters her fingers over her heart, wiggles her hands around her head. david cocks his head to the side as if confused, but doesn’t stop her. “it feels like all you can think about, all you can feel. even when it’s quiet, it’s inside, beating in your heart.”

david leans in close, then drops his head to press against the girl’s chest, making her tense, then relax. his ear is right up against her clavicle, and he’s listening. he closes his eyes, and he listens.

he’s trying to hear the love in her heart.

and as her heart skips beats and flutters nervously, david smiles. there it is.

he sits up and slowly cups his hands over her cheeks, then tugs her head so that her ear is pressed to his bare and hairy chest.

“oh-h, oh,” she stutters, one hand coming to rest on his collarbone, and he smiles.

“can you hear?”

“i hear your heart, david, yes.”

“no, no,” he mumbles. “listen harder.”

so her eyes fall closed and she lets out a quiet hum, her breath ghosting over him, and david’s heart leaps, his pulse jumping. at the sound, her eyes flicker open and she blushes again.

“the love,” david says shyly. “you hear it?”

and for a moment, there is only silence, david’s heart thrumming louder, almost fearfully. then she nods and turns her face into his skin, smiling against him.

“yes. yes i do.”

sidenote but david is COMPLETELY befuddled when he sees her COOKING the elk meat he brought her. he had pulled a dead elk onto his shoulders, his mouth covered in blood because he’d bitten it’s throat, and beamed at her, dropping it at her feet, a gift of his love.

she’d made and uncomfortable face, smile twisted with nerves, but david just came over and bumped his forehead on her shoulders, her neck, nuzzling in to how her affection and love. she had reached into her pocket and pulled out a handkerchief, wiping at his mouth and jaw that still ooze with redness.

he stood still and let her fuss over him, eyebrows knit as she cooed, “oh, david,” over and over. when she was done, he’d stood up straight and looked back at the elk, encouraging her to eat it.

“um, later,” she smiled, again evasive. “have to clean it and all.”

he didn’t understand, but he respects her desire for cleanliness (he loves his quirky clean girl who may not like the dirt but likes him), so he watched her call one of her campmates over to clean, gut, skin and de-bone the elk. david was confused, but he keeps watching, intrigued.

when they start putting the meat in the FIRE, he’s reeling, asking her what’s going on. are they burning the meat? are they not going to eat it?

“david, it makes it safe to eat, tastier. try some!”

she gave him a piece of the meat with salt and spices on it, warmed by the fire, and david was hesitant. he’s used to his meat being raw and still twitching. but he took a tentative bite, chewing thoughtfully.

then another bite.

and another.

and another and another and another.

and soon enough he was asking for more and feeding her bits and pieces and smiling as she beamed right back at him.

“i like this,” he said around a mouthful of the roasted elk. “good, like you.”

“thank you, david.”

“like you more, though,” he mumbled before kissing her forehead.

I am Dungeon anon, djdjdjf. I hope submit is OK to use. But I didn't want be creative in attempting to fit everything in one post or in several posts. That might have the misfortune of being eating by the blob that lives inside all post boxes.

So here's the vague I'd I've had for a while now. Ok, not this one, this one only sprung to life by with that other anons writing story ask.

I have lots of IZ OC's only 3 are flushed, however, and only 1 is Irken and would work in accidentally finding Dr.Zam.

So, my Irken OC used to be a Elite Invader top in his smeet class, not as a whole, but among his smeet siblings. Since, I'm not sure of Zams age, but given my own Irkens timeline and what I gathered of Zams timeline. Either mine is a smeet group before, two groups above or actually during Zams time. (Still haven't decided if smeets are born in categorized classes. Like Invader smeets to one smeetary and science needs to another.) So, unsure if their actually smeet siblings, if the same age, again.

Anyway, during my Irkens invader life he was pretty vicious, even partook in the irken gladiator arena for sport between Invading worlds. On one mission he even turned off the air support on a whole planet and felt smug that he'd outsmarted n hid in fake skin never to be discovered, as he watched them all suffocate. He was true green Irken Nationalist - you know - more power to my people above all else, kinda Irken. Belief in Irken ideals that they were superior to organic lifeforms and all other races were inferior to the Irken Empire, that by enslaving n killing other interior lifeforms the Irken empire was in fact helping them. (Yeah brainwashed zombie.)

Anyway, karma is cruel n teaches us many things, like your whole way of life has been a lie and your no more important to the empire you pleadged to give your life to then other species you enslave n murder.

He was sent on his fifth invading planet right after being honoured and gifted a new ship for his last invade. When he was captured by the planet and headed over to their leading scientist. Dubbed 'insanity' A creature so devoid of apathy n emotions he experiments on his own people without blinking, just for shits n giggles.

He tore my irken apart. Broke him down mentally and physically. But it wasn't the torture or experiments that got my irken. It was the fact The Empire had been sending their leading invaders to their planet for years without a single success. Never to hear from a single one, or ever giving warning to future invaders of its danger. Because they meant nothing, once a toy was broken it was thrown away like garbage.

In the end my Invader wouldn't break. Wouldn't spill The Empires secrets. So he was given a virus in his PAK that would create a back door into The Control system n decimate the mem frame, wrack it from the iniade out, why giving the locations to every Irken whose PAK was still connected to Irk. N even has fellow irkens eye implanted in with a camera to watch the show.

But, what the alien scientist didn't know was. My irken may not of broke for him. He broke at very idea of returning to Irk and what The Massive and control brains would do to him if they learner he'd been defeated n let go. That he was a defected irken now, because he felt wrong. Complete mental breakdown ended up running from Irken space and has never looked back since. Especially, after finding out what was done to his PAK. He may hate what The Empire stands for, but he still believes in his people n what they could accomplish as free beings.

Dxhtrxtxxu, sorry, I figured that needed to be said to understand why everything happened.

My irken has killed a fellow smeet Invader Irken who accidentally ended sucked throw a black whole to his neck of the woods n he aligns himself in The Empires eyes just by knowing n speaking to other aliens aligned with The Resistance n The Resisty. Not mention defected, a traitor, still alive and so in. Lots of racked up reasons to be an enemy now.

I figure my aquatic Bounty Hunter working for The Sub branch The Resisty. Ends up way in over their head n leading several Irken towards my Irken. Or they are together my bounty hunter n irken possibly inspecting a new planet for the plant life (my irken is now a space green witch. They deal in the healing art of plants n such. They are very sick - ill explain that only if asked.) n their scanners on their ships don't pick up an training party of irken. Ooor they were already on the planet when the party shows up.

My Irken knows he's got a better chance of being kept alive n either escaping himself or being rescued tyab an inferior alien with ties to The Resisty who more then likely be killed right away.. Not mention he doesn't have the best self esteem anymore n if he dies it's no big deal. But the bounty hunter is his friend, their more then a friend, their the glue that holds my irken together.

So they cause a distraction or fight through all they fear to allow the bounty hunter to get away. N the irkens are more invested in traitors irken then some backwater planet alien.

In order to be kept alive longest my irken tells them in exchange for life imprisonment he'll tell The Empire all they want to know about their Enemies.. of course he's not involved with the Resisty.. knows nothing.. but he know how to be an Invader. He knows how lie n bullshit n work the system at the same time. (He knows they'll kill him after they get what they want. But he has a backup for that too.) He knows even the highest ranking irken can't make this decision alone.. so they gave no choice but to return him to Irken space to contact Irk.. because let's say the Massive doesn't exist anymore.. thank you florpis n Zim.

However, when get to Irk or radio in when close he lays down n the new tallest say simply to strip him of pak n download the info. He smiles n says he's been implanted with a virus any attempt to mess with his pak will infect every online system n destroy them. (He's bluffing.. as far as he knows. But they Don't know that.) Everyone's freaking out now n what to do with him. He's worth so much more alive than dead but he's also a danger.. so the tallest is like. The dungeons.. put him in the dungeons. Their old n there's no tech down there.. no way to infect the rest if irks whole gride system hundred if feet below the surface of irk.. untill they can figure out how to either exstrack the info without him or until they can get it out if him willing as before n just leave him down there to rot after.

At some point either my irken gets out n starts snooping around for a back exist or he just so happens to be stuck in same room as zams prison box.

Also, I figured out a way to keep Zam alive for so long without food or water or nutrient.. Irkens n their PAKs can go into a hibernation like the Wolly Bear Caterpillars.. Who freeze in winter, zero body functions, meaning they are essential dead n not using any resources.. He could be down there for eons without actual death.

I figure the smallest PAK function would be scan the area for other PAKs.. So Zam can one day escape. N his PAK senses my Irkens PAK n - that's as far as I have thought.

Just know Zam is going have to deal with my Irkens PTSD n emotional moments.. Being back in a dungeon all over.. being on irk around other irkens.. woo so many triggers. There might be even moments Zam will halve to talk my irken down from attempted murder as zones n blacks out from bounty of animalistic fear. (But, l figured he's not all stupid n excited puppy scientist. He's got lots of sides to him, especially, if he's going to be able to take care of Zim. So, he should do fine with this.)

I think I covered everything. Sorry about mistakes, I'm super nervous, hard writing this on a phone n I didn't write everything down. If there are more questions about the story or my Irken or any concerns in general, please ask. Oh, utccitcut n my OC Irkens name is Kravis or Krais as an Elite Invader it was SIVARK or SIARK (Still unsure about the missing irken letters in their language.)
