⛓️ — WHAT TRAGIC HORROR TROPE IS YOUR OC
note: this was so fun to do honestly and thank you for tagging me @kingsroad and @zoyazenik <3 i’ll tag @hiddenqveendom @eddiemunscns @richitozier @kingsmakers ❤️ edit: i forgot the quiz link its HERE !
Tumblr media
FRANKENSTEIN’S MONSTER this plight is the simplest of them all: you did not ask for this. you were never given a choice. no part of yourself feels human, just a collection of traits you've picked up from mirroring anyone you could, even the people you meet through a television screen. it's alienating to live that way- yet someone has called you the alienating one. maybe too many people to count. maybe they treated you so uncomfortably inhuman that it's all you can understand now, or you've dug yourself into such a deep hole in an attempt to keep safe that you can't remember a person living in the home of your body at all. being alive is confusing and painful and lonely and loud but living is all there is to being human- you're already there. just take air into your lungs and breathe. close your eyes and picture a beautiful sky. you made that. you painted that yourself.
Tumblr media
THE HARBINGER the harbingers have been through fire. you've got the scars to show for it. some people say harbingers are jaded- scary, even, to people who don't understand that the harbinger has seen the edge of the world and survived it. but being the harbinger means you're cursed to watch younger, brighter eyes fall for the same traps you did. trying to help isn't enough for you; you know what they're getting themselves into, and you want to protect them the way no one ever protected you, so why won't they just listen? it's frustrating. it's terrifying. no one should have to live through what you did, and i hope you know that you can't protect everyone but it's damn noble of you to try. it's not your job to save the world but i hope you know you've already made a difference to everyone who has taken your words to heart.
Tumblr media
THE ONE WHO OPENED THE DOOR you turn the door handle. you call out, "who's there?" and the crowd has the audacity to groan, to get frustrated with you. as if the gift of hindsight was something you had. how the hell were you supposed to know you were born into a horror movie? no one bothered to tell you. say, if instead this was an action film, or a fantasy, would they still be telling you how silly of a mistake it was to press further on your quest? they would've commended you for your bravery. you thought you were going to be saving a princess in a tower, not getting stabbed in the back by a killer in the shadows. how is that fair? it isn't, and none of that was ever your fault. it is not wrong to believe things are good. your trust, your optimism, it shouldn't ever be mistaken for ignorance or stupidity. we need more people who open doors. how else are any of us gonna move forward?
Tumblr media
THE VAMPIRE it is the loneliest day of a vampire's life, the first time they look into a mirror and see their reflection missing. drinking blood sucks too, don't get me wrong, but as a vampire you had to learn to hide from the sunlight, from your family, all your friends, because you were unavoidably different now and you didn't know how to explain that to them in a way they would understand. you could get stranger's blood in bursts, but what is life when you can't know someone for longer than the night lasts? you left everything behind because it was easier than trying to tell them. i just hope you know you're not the only vampire out there, and that there exist people who will understand your situation without a word. they'll sit with you in the dark for as long as you'll need them to.
Tumblr media
THE WERE-WOLF there's something inside a werewolf  that's sharp, thorns and barbs coiling up in tight knots of vine even  on their best days. halfway through a conversation, you'll forget your  happiness and the pain comes back in a flash. you never meant to, but  the sharpness has done harm on your behalf. it's defensive. it's  leftover artillery from a battle you spent so long fighting that it  still doesn't feel like it's truly over, does it? you want so badly to  be soft. to take the hand that you are offered instead of baring your  teeth. and it might be hard to believe, but you are soft. you're the  softest one out there. it'll just take a while to untangle those vines  enough to know that very little is often life-or-death, and not  everything touches to hurt.
Tumblr media
THE FINAL GIRL the final girl comes out the other  end of trauma alive- or, they were supposed to. honestly, you're not so  sure you're really alive anymore. you saw the same hurt take those you  were closest to while everyone paraded your bruises as bravery, as  strength, as if you're the hero. and it hurts. you're tired and you  don't want to have to be brave anymore. whatever you went through, it  changed so much of who you were that you're still getting used to the  person you see in the mirror. you didn't have a say in any of it, but  you're here now, and that's gotta count for something. you'll make it  count for something. but first, you need to let yourself find rest.

Zehra's first delivery of "I killed her" felt exactly like the first words of someone who just regained consciousness after a traumatic event, and then the evolution to "I killed her," to "I killed my mother" jumping back to the past, weaving so skillfully back into this tapestry of Jean's life and the weight and guilt she carries, I'm going feral

Auntie Bee going down with her first scar, thinking about how she had told Jean to "be mentally prepared if he's too far gone," was not only Beatrix believing Jean was the only other one who could end Sean, and it was not only Marisha setting Zehra up for a We Saw This Coming that she would have had to use while Beatrix was unconscious and unable to help, but it was also Beatrix having believed the whole time that it was really Sean hunting them, even though Marisha didn't have confirmation until Spenser said the word blood. :)

CLOSED for @flcralhaze , however long while/after the french army sweeps the sleeping quarters.
gus's skin still feels alight, his pulse still thrums from his previous disastrous encounter with karolina. a hand sinks through his hair and shakes it, hoping to regain more of himself after a piece of him is left behind with them. it is only irony that he runs into another mackenzie soon after. when his eyes flicker back up, recognition dawns on him immediately. zehra looks starky different than the young girl ( annoying older sister ) he knew her to be, but he never forgets a face. "the lady mackenzie," he sighs, humorless under his smirk. "should've known this was a familiar affair. you scots and your tendencies to do everything together. remember me? your dear sibling sure didn't." words that sting in his mouth, and he bares his teeth through it.

While ancient magic held them and there had been little explanation or advance in the knowledge anyone had, some grew morose and panicked - doom seeping into their muscles and bone corrupting and killing hope. Feckless and faint of heart, some were. Perhaps some courts were searching for knowledge and ways to resolve it all but none had been sharing information as it would seem. Zehra would do as one did best and listen to whispers and captivate those she could and find a way to suggest to her brother and high lord ways the night court could lead the charge and show the world the way.
She had ideas and plans to involve him with Spring, to carry with her the reputation of the man to be her husband and further quiet ambitions. "Brother, I must have words with you. Privately if you would so indulge a sister of your own. The questions I plan to ask are of a personal nature regarding our current predicaments," She voiced across the way to her brother in an even and cool tone. She was as precise and cold as a blade's sharpened edge until her final word when a sister's affection and concern leaked into the world."To address your immediate concerns, first, I am fine; secondly, no, this is not an emergency, but again, I would like words with my brother rather than attempting to schedule time through Kalore to speak with you. Timur, please."

I never liked Tsuna's mother's name to be Orihime since it's both a little on the nose, (and not canon compliant) so I've been considering Suzume (sparrow) for her. Her maiden name would be 'Suzume Sui' which has a good ring to it imo.
I suppose if she was banished from Sui-no-Sato for leaving then she would change her surname to distance herself from it… in which case it would be Wasaishi (Kimono tailor) so that I can keep her 'weaving girl' reference.
I'm pretty sure citizens were only ever banished for engaging in conflict, but uhhhhhhhhhhh we'll build that bridge when we get there.
As for Tsuna's dad man… More information came out on Thavnairian naming conventions and tuns out they're based on Ottoman Turkish and not Persian 🥴 So I think I'll change Akvila's name to Kartal. If my sources are correct this should mean 'eagle' so my altair constellation ref can also be intact.
It just leaves Tsuna's real name, which is becoming the most difficult.
Originally it was Elhaym, (which admittedly was not even in the ballpark for Thavnairian names but I was shoehorning it for the xenogears reference) but now I have to think of a Turkish name for her and uhhh it's hard.
side note I am down for constructive critique if any of these meanings are incorrect because I Do Not Go Here and would rather hear it from a person who speaks the language.
Anyway!
Yildiz (yul-DUZ) - Means "star"  Zahide - Pious, devout. Zehra - From Arabic زهراء (zahra), the feminine form of أزهر (azhar) meaning "shining, brilliant, bright". This is an epithet of the Prophet Muhammad's daughter Fatimah. It can also be an alternate transcription of Arabic زهرة (see Zahrah), a name derived from a related root. Mihri - meaning "sun". Mihrimah - Means "sun and moon" in Farsi from the word مهر (mehr) meaning "sun" and ماه (mah) meaning "moon". A famous bearer is the daughter of the Ottoman Empire's Sultan Suleiman I The Magnificent. Both names Mehr and Mah are also tied with Ancient Persian deities. Refia - Lofty or above
I think I'm leaning towards Mihrimah because 'Mihri' sounds very cute. Refia is a very close second because of the FF3 reference but the symbolism isn't quite there for me.
Feel free to weigh in if you read this far. I can't choose anything to save my life.

Obsessed with the second introductions and descriptions of the characters (now that they have a moment to breathe because boy !! middle of the fight on a moving train sure wasn’t the best time). Especially Sean, because Brennan Lee Mulligan is always great, and Jean. Zehra is very precise in her wording, and I just love her voice.

;
She's late but Carmen ignores it, because she'll always believe she's never late for anything that matters. This matters. A small voice creeps into her thoughts. Zehra invited you weeks ago. Carmen frowns, slipping into the seat by her sister as some Vegan shoe wearing hipster's voice drones through the mic. "Sorry." she offers Zehra quietly, already clutching her drink she ensured she had time to get at the bar. And another as a gesture of goodwill that she slides over the table. "You didn't tell me we had a table at the front, Zee. We're easy pickings. A Turk and a Latina? All we need now is a Priest." she comments, her voice picking up slightly above the general atmosphere which is when the comedian's words teeter off. Sorry am I interrupting something? Carmen's eyes shift from Zehra to the stage, and she blinks as laughter bubbles through the room. "You really don't want to do this with me." she waves a hand at him, laughter scattering again.

Closed starter: Calan Stuart and Zehra Mackenzie (@flcralhaze)
At three decades, Calan Stuart was no blushing boy; he'd romanced women before, both high and low born and had learned how to use pretty words and gifts to turn a woman's head. He could be charming, witty, and a rogue and gentleman in equal turns if he was so inspired, but no woman had ever made him sweat before, not like she did. Once upon a time, she'd simply been his sister's friend, someone he'd liked well-enough but had never taken much notice of; after all, he could not and would not compete with her for attention. He'd learned already from his parents that he'd lose every time. He hadn't intended to feel that way about Zehra Mackenzie, really he didn't, but it had started with the little things...the way she moved her hair from her cheek, the way she danced, her laugh, and the incredible way she seemed to see everything, to see him. He found himself wanting, more and more to be around her, to hear what she thought, and to see things through her eyes...even if some of what she mentioned bordered on dislike of his father. Even if he knew his father would not approve, he found, he couldn't stay away. He was at her door, all the same, with the slightly curling, frangrant bouquet of frangipani in hand and a bracelet (a thin gold with sapphire inlaid) tucked into his coat and knocked.

CHARACTER BASICS
NAME: zehra raeywen ozdemir (quinn) NICKNAME: zehra AGE: thirty-five DATE OF BIRTH: january 1, 1988 ZODIAC SIGN: capricorn GENDER & PRONOUNS: cisfemale, she/her ORIENTATION: pansexual STATUS: married but they’re not really together anymore HEIGHT: 5′8″ OCCUPATION: owner of sea glass boutique / model NEIGHBORHOOD: aurora bay drive
BIOGRAPHY
zehra grew up in a world of affluence wherein her father was a hotel tycoon, while her mother was a former supermodel. her parents spoiled her and her siblings to their heart’s content and she was pretty much treated like a princess. being the middle child, they didn’t ask much of her. and by that, they really expected nothing of her except that she should marry someone her father has chosen when the time comes. as a young girl, she was taught proper etiquette, how to conduct herself like a lady and to never raise her voice against the men in their family. she lived in a patriarchial home and as a young child, she didn’t see anything wrong with this.
during middle school, she was finally enrolled to a private school after being homeschooled for so long. it was a culture shock to the meek girl who wasn't really used to socializing with kids her age. however, that was also around the time she realized just how unjust her father's teachings are to them. that’s when her worldview began to change. their teachers didn’t simply teach them to be meek; they studied literature wherein girls were empowered and people were on equal footing no matter what their gender is. the sheltered young girl who always said yes slowly unfolded into this beautiful young woman who can stand her ground.
in college, she wanted to study business management with a specialization in hotel management since it was their family’s business, but her father simply laughed at her. he told her that she didn’t have the heart for something like it and that she would be better off studying something for women. besides, what use would she have of it when she’s never gonna apply it in real life anyway? her father wanted her to follow her mother’s footsteps who gave up on her career to be a housewife. however, zehra had different plans in mind and she didn’t want to just stay at home.
in order for her to get what she wants in the long run, she decided to appease her father and took a degree in interior design instead. she has an eye for beautiful things and creating beautiful living spaces anyway. the plan was for her to study business management as her second degree after she has proven herself to her father. however, things didn’t exactly go according to plan when she met nelson quinn during her last year of college. it was a whirlwind romance that resulted in them getting married after just a month of knowing each other. her father wasn’t exactly overjoyed by what happened and almost disowned her for that. as for zehra, she found this as an opportunity to break away from her family and to start her own while keeping her dreams alive.
just like most marriages, they were off to a wonderful start but their honeymoon phase soon turned sour at the death of nelson’s older brother. the two started traveling together, but the tragedy continued to loom behind the shadows as she felt the distance between the two of them growing and growing with each passing day. her own dreams were laid forgotten as she tried her best to just keep on making their crumbling marriage work. and as much as she loved him, she couldn’t stay with him anymore—she couldn’t keep picking up after his hedonistic lifestyle. it wasn’t like she woke up and decided to just leave him—it was a long hard thought decision for the woman and part of her didn’t want to leave him, but she had to put herself first this time.
zehra went back to college after the fallout, taking a degree in management wherein she graduated with high honors. to pay for her studies, she also did a bit of modeling at this time and she almost considered on making it a full time career. it was also around this time that she reconnected with her husband and although the two are living separately, they have an amicable relationship and they’ve decided that they are better off as friends. living in the us away from her family, she slowly made her way up the corporate ladder in the different hotels she managed. through sheer dedication and unwavering focus, she reached the pinnacle of her career as the general manager of a prestigious luxury hotel chain in new york.
her father's pride found its way to her accomplishments, offering an invitation to manage their own family hotel. yet, zehra knew she had grown beyond the constraints of her past, and respectfully declined the offer. it didn't take long for fate to reveal its fickle nature, as rumors and scandal engulfed her workplace, malicious whispers of how she slept her way to the top, which were all false. soon enough, she was relieved of her duties and no hotel in new york would take her in because of these baseless rumors.
everything she worked hard for came down crumbling again, but she refused to crawl back to her father and become a pawn to his game. instead, she found her way into this serene coastal town and bought her own little boutique. currently, she's renting a place in aurora bay drive and has been staying here for a few months now.
one could describe zehra as someone who walks with an air of elegance around her as her upbringing seems to still follow her. she also has a taste for designer clothes and expensive things as someone who was raised in that lifestyle. she is also headstrong and doesn’t like to lose in arguments, but she also has a penchant for playing along when she’s planning her next move. however, she can also be affectionate with the right people. she does have a big heart even though she may seem a little cold at first.

Kardeşlerim Ep 77
Berk said hi to Asiye and Aybike but only Asiye said hi back to him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Berk:”We're not going to speak today too? ”
Tumblr media
Aybike:”I said we will when I am not angry with you anymore. You know, I am still angry at you my dear Berk and I don’t know if I will ever cool off. If you don’t like waiting, don’t”
Tumblr media
Berk didn’t say anything and just left.
Tumblr media
There was a parents meeting at school. The school needs some supplies and they asked the parents to donate some money to the school. Ayla and Sengul fought. Ayla told Sengul what Berk and Aybike did with her clothes. She told her that Aybike asked for expensive clothes and Berk (bc he was naive) collected all of her clothes and gave it to her and sold them together online. Gunul said that Aybike is a theif like her mother who "stole" her husband and then the fight broke out.
After the meeting, Sengul asked Aybike if what Ayla said was true. Aybike told her that it was a misunderstanding and she didn't know the clothes belonged to Ayla. Sengul didn't want to hear her explanation and told her not to speak or meet with Berk again.
Tumblr media
Berk came and saw Aybike being yelled at by her mom.
Tumblr media
Aybike saw Berk and told Sengul that currently, they are not speaking to each other anyway.
Aybike: “Don't ever do me any favors, okay? Don't do anything, don't look at me, don't talk to me, don’t do anything! stay away from me”
Tumblr media
Berk stood there and said nothing.
Tumblr media
Sengul screamed at her:"What are you doing? didn't I tell you not to speak with him again" and Aybike left.
Berk did not understand anything and Sengul told him to leave Aybike alone and he was like "me???" and then he left confused.
Tumblr media
I think the writers forgot to write some lines for him here 😂 honestly I am sick and tired of him not talking back to Sengul. Every time he meets her, he just shuts up and can’t say a word back to her unlike Aybike who talks back to Ayla.
After the meeting at school, Ayla went to Gunul's restaurant and they gossiped about how awful Sengul was. Ayten (Zehra's sister in law) started working there. Ayten also hates Sengul (idk why) so Ayla told them that she has a plan to mess with Sengul.
The next day, Ayten was waiting for Sengul to come out of the house and then acted like she bumped into her on accident. She told her that a hotel ordered some curtains (I said it was tablecloths but I was wrong) from her friend who owns a workshop but her workshop was suddenly flooded and so she can't fulfill the order. Sengul said that she can do it and Ayten sent her the phone number of the "hotel". Sengul called the number and Ayla answered. She told her that she will send her the location of the hotel and they will talk more about everything there. Then Ayla went to a hotel, apparently she knows the manager there and she told her to act like she's the one who talked with Sengul on the phone. The manager talked with Sengul and showed her around the hotel.
Sengul went and bought a sewing machine and some fabrics which were very expensive. She didn't pay the full amount for them and agreed with the seller that she will pay for everything after the hotel pays her for the curtains. Sengul posted on instagram that she started working on the curtains so Ayla called her and told that there are some problems and they need to meet. She sent her a location but Sengul found Ayla and Gunul waiting for her there. Ayla explained to Sengul what she did and told her that she did it because her daughter didn't leave her son alone and Gunul told her because she "stole" her husband.
Ngl, this is bad. Aybike will be livid when she finds out about what Ayla did to her mom and might blame Berk for this. Same goes for Berk, he will be SO pissed but I don't know if he's going to leave the house because of this. If he does end up leaving the house, I hope he takes his car with him because I am sure Resul got it for him and he has inheritance from his dad as well.
Akif talked with Zehra’s brother and convinced him to send her to school instead of forcefully marrying her to that old man and Akif will give her a scholarship. He explained the situation to Nebehat and she agreed to pay for her scholarship. However, her brother decided to use the money for himself and he will not send Zehra to school. I guess this is why they will help her run away in the next ep.
No teaser was released for ep 78. A spoiler page said that Ayla and Gunul are just starting and will mess with Sengul more in the coming episodes. Ayla doesn’t know it yet but this will end up driving Berk away from her and probably the eloping plot will happen soon. Ayber will hopefully make up in the next episode since Berk was involved in helping Zehra run away but I can’t wait to see Berk’s reaction when he finds out what his mom did.

at this point I'm absolutely hoovering every square inch of the second episode for scraps about Jean, fascinated by how subtly and close to the chest Zehra plays her, but also as a fanfic writer SO FRUSTRATED ABOUT IT, give us something queen!!
anyway in her flashback conversation with Dr. Boucher, Boucher says:
Tumblr media
but the thing is, Spencer put a hard B on that last word. which, as a sentence concerning something Boucher is asking for Jean's report about, makes a little more sense, you know? "when you were there with Bee". as in, the last time before this particular flashback that Jean met with the circle, most likely.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
clearly, much like androphage, this is a word with Greek roots. there's no ani- prefix in Greek. you've got to hop over to Latin to get anima for soul, and the root of animal, animate, animism, etc.
googling anitithenai gets results for syntithenai, meaning "to put together," obviously where we get the word synthesis. we could presume that Spenser mispronounced this Extremely Significant Word and it got left that way in the transcript, which is sometimes... selectively correct (see above, me vs. Bee), but tends to be rather meticulous when it comes to proper nouns.
we could assume that that word should be Antitithenai. (insert joke here about Nathaniel pronouncing it Ahhhntie Tithenai and getting mocked for it.) that implies a connotation with antithesis, meaning something in opposition to something else, or with the literal opposite of syntithenai, which would be to separate something.
however!! if we want to imagine that maybe these Oldfairen scientific terms blend Greek roots with Latin, maybe it's not a mispronunciation or typo at all. maybe it is intended to be a mingling of the root for soul and the root for putting together. maybe this thing that Boucher is clearly obsessed with actually has something to do with the collection and combining of souls. which certainly has some ties and consequences for the circle, especially Marion and Jean (though she may not have even realized its significance to her when she was tasked to find out about it)!
so that raises the question:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
what knowledge exactly is Auntie Bee sitting on about a significant named thing that collects and combines souls????

“In Müsameretname, in Letaif-i Rivayat, in İntibah, in Sergüzeşt, in Zehra, there is always the story of enslaved women or men. The dramatis personae of most of our first plays are composed of them. This theme only leaves the forefront with the Edebiyat-ı Cedide novel. Aşk-ı Memnu’s Beşir, in the Boğaziçi scenery of this novel, shows up like the exotic faces in some Renaissance paintings. Nothing can be as meaningful as him dying in this novel. In fact in Halit Ziya’s art this death might be the only symbol our author could find for an important part of our social life. In fact at that age this type of person (slaves) and their fortunes were leaving us.”
(Beşir’s death as a symbol of enslaved people disappearing from the Turkish society with the death of the institution is very interesting, indeed he is the last important enslaved character in the history of the canonical Turkish novel. It is also very apt to compare him to the background Black figures often serving the White figures at the forefront in the Renaissance paintings (here is a blog post with many examples).

While Tanpınar’s voice can be exoticizing and insensitive by today’s standards, he had a way with words as one the greatest Turkish novelists, and conveyed what he was trying to say in very few aptly chosen words. This is perhaps the most insightful observation about Beşir in the whole body of the criticism on the novel, and it is only four sentences.
