He's maybe seen these words, I sent him a thing, but I wanted to say, in this blip, how much his work and the work of others has meant to me.

Between Roald Dahl, Daniel Handler, the fabulous Edward Gorey, and Neil Gaiman, my life is touched and changed. So many of their works have meant the universe to me, especially in regards to the way they create with children in mins. The way they don't hold back, the way they never talk down. They don't treat children like fragile, weak, stupid things. The children who read these works are treated as brave, clever, insightful, soulful. It's a beautiful thing to have grown up with.

I can't say how much Coraline has meant to me, and many other people I suppose. The Gashlycrumb Tinies. All of Dahl, really. A Series of Unfortunate Events. (Special shout out to The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy) There have been others, but these three got there first. And goodness, that Coraline.

I was inspired. I collect them, frightening and dark children's books and comics, and I write stories of my own. Not for adults, I don't have the mind for it, but for children. Frightening things, good and properly perilous. They're deeply, wonderfully flawed. I self-publish, sold a few, but really I wanted them for myself. They live on my bookshelves, breathing quietly, my little paper children. My head is full up of stories, dark and dangerous and delightfully wicked.

The lovely Mr. Gaiman and the others mentioned here have/had been been busy creating all of their lives. I appreciate that more than I can express.

As a demonstration, we'll see how tis does. I promise I am making no corrections or going back to add in letters that get missed. But, ou see, tere is someting wrong wit m keboard. At random, it decides not to tpe certain letters. peraps ou can guess wic ones? I alread cecked to see if tere was dirt or crumbs or some kind of small feral animal living underneat te kes but alas. tere was none. So I tried asking google, and wen tat immediatel was useless, I turned to Reddit, were upon I found tat tis is a known ting, and te best advice so far was to uninstall te literal keboard ardwired into m laptop. I did tat. It did not elp. Now, so far in tis demonstration, it as been ver consistent about not letting te forbidden letters troug. Earlier toda, it was as random as ever oter word. I'm a millennial, we did tping classes. I am fast, and mostl y accur (see ow it put te bad letter after te space just back tere? ea, tat's part of tis) accurate. I am now a writer, and I use m laptop for work, m personal laptop, so I can't take it to te IT department, not tat I'd let tem even if I could. So. ea. Tis is a struggle, and since I'm not cool enoug to tumb tpe updates or capters, an suggestions tat reddit didn't alread know would be great. It's and ewlet Packard Omen. Just thinking to myself

I often see posts about how writers or fic writers really love getting fanarts of their writings

Well not that exact wording but that's the intent jn those posts I see

I don't really relate to that I don't draw a lot and I've never drawn fanart (purposely) before

But sometimes, especially recently, when I'm scrolling through tumb and come across an art or drawing, that really really really catches my attention

I think I understand how those fanarts were made

When I see a drawing that I really love sometimes rather most of those times I'd get a huge urge to write for those drawings

Like wow inspiration or not, my heart has fallen and wants to write

I'm still pretty bad at writing stuff, but I think getting back that feeling of 'wanting to write' is a huge step from before

I hope I get into the habit of writing every day even if only a little like this written post I made today on the spur of the moment instead of minding my other stuff

If I get that habit and start writing consistently, that would be very good ..well, never hurts to try, I guess?

I need to practice being myself again here on tumblr. When the Tumblr Purge happened, I casually moved all of my thoughts and personal inspection onto twitter. Because it really looked like the ol tumb was dead in the water. But now it’s the other way around (way to go on not dying, tumblr!).
