Ok, so, wrestling fan here, I'm gonna explain why the fans turning on Jormungandr not only made sense, but also was executed perfectly.

The initial state of the situation is perfectly defined by Launchpad. Jormungandr is the face, Scrooge is the heel. Simple.

Dewey don't get it. How can Scrooge be the bad guy? But, he is the Earth's hero. And we're in Valhalla. Scrooge saving the Earth from the Ragnarok is the most evil thing to do here. People hate him, and he lives for it.

Dewey never had a chance. He's the nephew of the Millionaire Miser, Champ Popular was doomed from the beginning.

Impossible to hate? Dewey, people booed the living hell of Kurt Angle, an Olympic Gold medalist.

Dewey in his tag match, sucked. He really did. He did nothing but trying to get people to like him, and in wrestling, that's a recipe to being hated. We don't want a guy telling us he's nice, we want a hero that figth for us.

So, how Dewey got to be loved? A Double Turn.

A double turn is when a hero became a villain, and a villain became a hero. Sound simple, is not. It has to be done well to make it work.

The most famous double turn of all time was at WrestleMania 13, when the hero Bret Hart opposed the villainous Stone Cold Steve Austin.

A bleeding Austin found himself trapped in the lethal Sharpshooter, a move that gave Hart so many victories. But Austin refuse to give up, he rather fainted because of the pain than gave up. Bret Hart was the winner.

What he did next? He attacked an unconscious Austin. And people hated it. That's not what a hero does, a hero doesn't kick when someone is down. A hero is someone who never gives up. Like Austin.

That's exactly what happen in Ragnarok.

Jormungandr had Dewey defeated. It was over, but he continuously attacked a weaker opponent (it has nothing to do about Dewey being a child). It wasn't a fight, it was a beat up.

This is not the Norse way.

And Dewey?

He refuse to lose, like a real hero.

That's why people cheered on Dewey, and it was organic, it was spontaneous, it was real. It was perfect.

That's how you do a double turn.

That's how you make Champ Popular a hero.

The Rumble for Ragnarok was always such a weird episode to me for it pretty much just forgot it's own moral near the end. Y'see, the episode's whole moral is that you have to do the right thing rather than expecting praise for it, and you can't force people to like you if that's your intention. Rather, it's best to forget about being popular and do what's right, and people will eventually start noticing you are worth supporting for who you are.

Popularity doesn't matter, following what's right is.

The whole episode shows this theme of doing the right thing in spite of people not liking you fairly well before the climax, as pretty much the whole stadium hates the McDuck family in spite of them doing the right thing...

...and then the episode kind of forgets that moral near the end...? Like, at the end of it, the crowd starts liking Dewey and rooting for him, which spits in the face of the episode's message it was going for. This wouldn't be much of a problem if the reason why the crowd starts liking Dewey and disliking Jormungunder wasn't so contrived; the crowd starts to dislike Jormungunder because...

...he's being too hard on a child?

???? What??? A past fighter was beating the shit out of Webby yet they never cared about that, how is it suddenly bad when Jormungunder does it?? What about this isn't the "norse way"??

So the episode's message of doing the right thing in spite of not being very popular kinda just falls flat because everyone ends up liking Dewey in the end and the reason why they start liking him is stupid. Dewey ultimately, never had to even learn anything
