[Let’s meet again in all our future lifetimes]
My piece for the TEAM AVATAR charity fanzine! It was an honour (sorry Zuko!) to be invited; drawing these kids again after so long was super nostalgic! The text up top is a more formal way of saying BFFs (友誼萬歲 lit. friendship for ten thousand years). Cheers for supporting the project!
STORE (I’ll have some copies of the zine up soon)

Katara offered to heal Zuko because she saw him as like her. When he told her that he had lost his mother, her view of him changed from "the face of the enemy" to "this is someone who is like me." He didn't ask her to heal him, he didn't even ask her to understand him. When he was hurt by her comment about his face and she apologized, he told her that it was okay and that he knew he was the only person responsible for his own destiny. When she offered to heal him, his first reaction was disbelief. There is no obligation for Katara to take on Zuko's pain, but she does it because she sees them as alike. We know that Katara deals with the loss of her mother by helping others, and she is doing the same thing here. And here she is confronted with a boy who is feeling the same pain she is, who has a physical manifestation of his pain on his face. By offering to heal him, she is healing a piece of herself.

Sorry about your boomerang, Sokka. I feel like I’ve lost part of my identity. Imagine if you lost your arrow, or Katara lost her… hair loopies!
