You’re too kind! I’m still around, just not on tumblr as much, but I’ve gotten back into the DA/Fenders fandom recently, and have been writing again, so that means at least a little tumblr is bound to be involved ;) Life was rough for a while when I left, but I’m doing pretty good now!

Writer Game

Oh geez, I’ve been tagged in the thing! Let me unearth by dead tumblr and answer the thing! Sorry not gonna tag but do it if you want.

Do you write in order? I try to. Sometimes if I get really stuck I might skip ahead to a scene I’m looking forward to more, but more often than not I regret it because I end up with pacing problems. Like where I pictured the characters being by that point isn’t where they ended up, so the scene I skipped ahead to needs to be rewritten.

Do you start with something in particular? Again, I try to start at the beginning. I think in dialog though, so I sometimes will write out snippets of conversations that are really strong in my mind that will come way later so I don’t forget. Especially for longer fics I will turn these snippets and basic summaries of scenes into a wonky messy AF “outline”, but the draft itself tends to start at the beginning.

How fully formed does your writing come out on the first try? Pretty close to fully formed. I’ll read over it again and again and add/remove/tweak things, but my final draft rarely comes out vastly different from the first draft.

How many drafts do you go through? Just that first one babeeeey. I hate doing things twice so if it’s already written, let it ride. I just edit edit edit on that same draft. If you count my messy “outline” then one and a half, but I wouldn’t call it a “draft”.

Tell me about your process? Don’t write for years. Blow in on the East Wind. Hyperfixate. Write in a manic fugue state, neglecting all work and personal responsibilities. Judge my self worth on how much feedback I receive. Do the above steps until the East Wind blows me away once more. Don’t write for years. Rinse and repeat.

It's still dark when Fenris wakes.

Grumbling, he pushes himself up on his elbows and rubs the sleep out of his eyes. The fire has gone out, and so has the spell wisp Anders had left to bob around the bed as they drifted off to sleep. The mage himself lies curled on his side, one arm flung over Fenris' waist and snoring softly into the pillow.

Nothing seems to be amiss, so it takes a few moment for Fenris to figure out what has woken him - then he hears it.

Scratchscratchscratchscratch.

"Ekekekekekekek!"

Fenris snorts, shaking his head, and gently slides out from under Anders' arm to sit at the side of the bed. With his elven eyesight and the help of the moonlight, he can pretty clearly see the source of the commotion. In the corner of the bedroom, Lord Fuzzytoes and Smoochums The Indomitable are huddled, tails swishing as they stare at a lizard on the ceiling.

"Mrrrreeeppp!" trills Smoochums, stretching to place her paws against the wall.

Chuckling, Fenris pushes himself out of bed and pads over to the cats. Fuzzytoes turns and begins to frantically weave between Fenris' legs, as if asking Fenris to assist him in his hunt.

"What have you found, little ones?" Fenris whispers, bending over to pick up Fuzzytoes and hold him high to get a better look at the lizard. "An intruder?"

Fuzzytoes mows sadly, and Smoochums begins to chatter as the lizard skitters across the ceiling.

"Shhh," Fenris admonishes, scratching Fuzzytoes behind the ear. "You'll wake the mage."

Smoochums, ever the little princess, does not take kindly to being told what to do, nor does she appreciate Fenris' inability to assist her with catching the lizard.

"MeeeeoOOOWWWWW!" she wails, attempting to throw herself up the wall.

Dammit, Fenris thinks as he hears a sharp gasp from the bed. Turning, he sees Anders sitting up straight, hair a mess and eyes darting frantically across the room.

"It's alright," Fenris says gently. "Anders, it's alright."

"What's going on?" Anders breathes.

"Your cats have found a lizard."

"Mow," adds Fuzzytoes.

Anders visibly relaxes, huffing a laugh as he lies back down. "Have they now?"

Fenris smiles at him, though he's not sure if Anders can see well enough in the dark to tell. He brings Fuzzytoes back to the bed, plopping him down beside Anders. Across the room, Smoochums meows sadly at the lizard again.

"You tell 'em, baby girl," Anders mutters, scooping Fuzzytoes up into his arms as Fenris gets back into bed with them.
