I just need to rant about Youssef Haddad for a moment cause I’ve been thinking about this a lot and you said you accept random ramblings. Just to start off, I don’t agree with quite a bit of the stuff he says, but I also don’t want to dive into a judgment of his politics and the way he presents them or whatever. So onto the main point— I think the reason so many people hate Youssef so much is because he is very Arab and very Israeli. That’s kind of obvious, but I want to elaborate
Like, I think a lot of radical leftists, Hamasniks, anti-Israels, whatever you want to call them, think of Arab Israelis as just living in Israel, not seeing themselves as Israeli or as Israel being their home and country. This is just the place they’ve ended up in for whatever reasons. Which is an experience that definitely exists, and it’s completely fine, but it’s also not the experience of a lot of other Arabs in Israel. Youssef Haddad is so undeniably Israeli, like you can just tell that Israel is his county and that he’s proud of that. And that makes a lot of people very angry
It’s that cognitive dissonance, the fact that so many people have built their image of Arabs being completely incompatible with Israel. So they see an Arab man who is also Israeli, and it’s not out of convenience or anything like that, he just genuinely is Israeli, and they just can’t compartmentalise that information with the ideology they’ve already built. But they can’t change any of their views on Israel, no, that would make them an evil imperialist apartheid Jew loving Zionist apologist! So instead the only thing they can do is become fucking enraged
Youssef Haddad makes them so mad because he’s not a token to them. He’s an Arab man who isn’t ashamed of being Arab (ffs he’s not a ‘blood traitor’ for being Israeli, you sound like a white supremacist), but he’s useless to them. He’s worse than useless, he’s actively a problem to their one dimensional, Jew hating ideology that refuses to stop fetishising Arabs and Arab struggles. And that’s the thing about tokenisation— it only lasts as long as you’re useful. As soon as you don’t fit the cutout stereotype they’ve built for you to try to contort yourself into, they not only toss you away, but they hate you with vitriol. It’s why I genuinely can’t see any of these people actually caring about Arabs (and Palestinians especially). When the only reason you advocate for a group is so that you can fetishise and tokenise them, then maybe you’re not really advocating for them after all
As soon as you don’t fit the cutout stereotype they’ve built for you to try to contort yourself into, they not only toss you away, but they hate you with vitriol.
100% this. Its why people think that Drake can no longer call himself black or Taika Waititi Maori. Your ethnicity only matters if it can be weaponized
It’s why I genuinely can’t see any of these people actually caring about Arabs (and Palestinians especially). When the only reason you advocate for a group is so that you can fetishise and tokenise them, then maybe you’re not really advocating for them after all
Also 100% this.

As long as Hamas is in charge, they can't be a long-term peace. The only option is root them out & hope their replacements are moderate enough to accept co-existence.
I find it telling that people say there should be a ceasefire, because the on going war will just make Palestinians hate Israelis more, leading to more groups like Hamas being established, but I saw no one denouncing Hamas' massacre on Oct 7, or the decades of Palestinian terrorism that preceded it, being denounced because of the hatred for Palestinians that would plant in the hearts of Israelis.
Don't get me wrong, I AM against generalized hatred on both sides, and I am against violence from either. I just think it says something, when only one side's hurt is acknowledged, and only one side's feelings of hate are understood as being at least partly derived from the actions of the other side, and only one side's choice to use violence is justified. It's like Palestinians are accepted as victims, and therefore whatever they do, or whatever reaction they have to Israeli actions, is legitimized, while Israelis are not accepted as victims, and that's why even people who admit that on Oct 7, Israelis were victimized, still don't treat Israelis as people who suffer, and who might be driven to hate by the actions of the other side.
In this context, I'd like to share an article, which explores the harsh sentiments of Israeli peace activists, who were slaughtered on Oct 7. The communities in southern Israel that were purposely attacked during Hamas' massacre, were well known for leaning left politically, for being pro-peace, for employing Gazans to help them financially, and for the extensive volunteer work these communities' members did in favor of Palestinians. In fact, that was a part of their downfall. Some survivors talked about how well the terrorists knew who lived in which home, where the security posts were (to take those out first), how the terrorists had hand drawn maps of these communities, making it clear they had first hand intel from the Gazans who had been employed there. I've listened to the voices of these people, whether I agree with them or not, to their sense of hurt, betrayal and disillusionment, to why they no longer distinguish Gazan civilians from terrorists, and I believe that we all should.

I have heard this from white Australian kids without a single drop of ancestry from Aboriginal, Pacific Islander, Chinese or any other non-European ethnicity. Not even a bit of Greek, Sicilian, Maltese or Hispanic that would make you go "maybe". They do this while standing on Yuggera land that their ancestors colonised off my mother's people without a trace of irony or self-reflection. The hypocrisy of those twerps is infuriating.
“I hate Israel/Zionists because they’re white colonizers!”
No, that’s not why, because you have never in your life directed this much hatred toward actual white colonizers. You have never protested or boycotted or ostracized or harassed any actual white colonizers the way you do Jews.

I can spell, do maths & cook. The first two are obvious. I have a university degree. Spelling is bare minimum when you need to be able to write essays, journal article style assignments, lab reports & exam questions. My degree had a compulsory statistics course & math was required for other subjects. Doing math was required. And yes I can cook. That's a basic requirement of surviving as an adult.
Driving is tricky. I can technically drive from Point A to Point B but end up so drained from the drive (due to the fact that I can't focus on just the road) that I can't so anything afterwards, so I usually don't drive. Let's mark this as a No.
I have trouble recognising jokes, let alone telling them. We will put this as one I can't do.
Appearance wise, I'm plain. Neither hot or ugly, just unremarkable. If I hadn't transitioned, I would be even more unremarkable as I'm at average male height for my country. As it stands, I'm taller than the average woman, but not to the point of it being that noteworthy, as I still know ciswomen who are taller than me. But unremarkable works for me. Too ugly, & transphobes are more likely to clock you. Too attractive & creeps are more likely to stalk or even sexually assault you.
let’s settle this shit but do NOT reblog if you’re gonna be modest about it like a little BITCH. anyway privilege check tell me which ones apply to you: hot, funny, can dance, can do math, can spell, can drive, can cook

In my lifetime, I have drunk 1 cup of decaf coffee. I have yet to try the caffeinated version & probably never will.
Out of curiosity and also guilt over my own coffee intake. I wanna ask:
Now I'm not talking about when you're studying and so you drink 3x the usual amount or something like that. This isn't me asking what your record is. I'm talking about the most basic, average day, how many coffees you drink?

So this happened recently. It would probably be bigger news worldwide if the war Hamas started didn't drag on into its 6th month. Meanwhile, in Australia, the worsening domestic violence rate, the recent series of knife stabbings & the bankruptcy of Bonza Airlines have taken many of our eyes off the Pacific.

Kimba the White Lion was on reruns in Australia for decades after its initial release. Even though I was born in the early 1990s, I watched Kimba before I ever saw Pokemon or Digimon (I preferred Digimon to Pokemon). So Kimba is my first anime.
I think the more important question is which anime was the one to lock me into watching anime as an adult rather than dropping it in my early teens. The answer to that was that in Grade 8, I saw Gundam Seed, Full Metal Alchemist (the first one, this was before Brotherhood was made), Ghost in the Shell: SAC & Trinity Blood. I got hooked. Watched amongst other shows, Death Note, Full Metal Panic Fumoffu, InuYasha, Code Geass & Kashimashi (which (a) in retrospect, really should have cracked my egg before it actually cracked & (b) was a show I didn't even admit to watching around my other otaku/weeb friends).
If I never saw Gundam Seed, the first FMA, Trinity Blood & SAC, I wouldn't have grown up to be a 30-something weeb. That I watched Kimba the White Lion, Pokemon, Digimon, Hamtaro & YuGiOh (amongst others) as a kid wouldn't have mattered much if I didn't stumble onto Gundam Seed/FMA/Trinity Blood/SAC just as I was aging out of the primary school kid stuff. I watched Cousin Skeeter (a Nickelodeon sitcom) as a kid, but adult me has no interest in puppet shows.

does the far left even know that they have effectively alienated massive numbers of regular folks who’ve seen protesters chanting “burn tel aviv to the ground” and “globalize the intifada” or watched jewish people all over the world be subjected to harassment from antizionists
personally, speaking as a long-time leftist, i have lost all trust in leftists as a whole

In comparison the regret rates for transition surgery is tiny, only 1%. Which makes sense, it's really hard to jump through the hurdles to get surgery. Speaking as part of the 99% who are happy with transition. If people want to ban us for a regret rate of 1% (lower than almost any other surgery, including the life-saving ones), than logically straight marriage is 42 times worse.
For anyone who didn't get it, of course no one wants to ban straight marriage (well, almost no one, I've read some works by ciswomen proposing that). We are just pointing out that in the attempt by the anti-trans movement to attack us anyway they can, they shot themselves in the foot on this.

"they are just protesting genocide and war" THEY STABBED A JEWISH STUDENT. THEY ARE LITERALLY HARASSING THEM NONE STOP. THEY ARE TELLING JEWISH STUDENTS THAT THEY SHOULD BE DEAD. Jewish students all over America have been shown once and once again that people want them dead because they are jews. I don't fucking want this to get violent. I don't want this to escalate. Bring in swat or anything truly won't make it safer. but to say that they were "only protests" is disgusting. Just fucking say you hate jews.
