A Bittersweet Cuoplet From FAIZ AHMED FAIZ
Tumblr media
The hopeful eyes are only looking at dust that's flying in front and it looks like season of hope of beloved's sight is gone but still he is wishing beloved to send him a cloud of pain and about it's timing of rain.

A truly outstanding and perplexing work of poetry from the pen of visionary poet, thinker and philosopher Allama iqbal.
It's an imaginative conversation between Archangel jibreel ( Gabriel) and fallen angel/jinn iblish (satan).
I don't know what allama iqbal truly wanted to say through this poetry as it's difficult to come to conclusion whether there is any hidden message in it for believers or it's just written to imagine/show Satan's point of view as we can feel from reading it that Satan's answers are too strong and deceiving.
Gabriel's character here seems to be mere Questioner or should I say used just like a prop to explore Satan's point of view. Only in third question we can feel that there is a tone of complaint or disappointment from Gabriel.
The last verse of this poetry is particularly provocative where Satan self proclaims his superiority over Gabriel by saying " I rankle in the heart of God like a thorn" Meaning that's his importance and all you (Gabriel) do is chant "Allah hu" "Allah hu" "Allah hu".
Perhaps one has to truly understand meaning of "Allah hu" to withstand Satan's strong arguments.
My favorite couplet is probably where Satan talks about battle between good and evil with a metaphor of storm and also use of that line containing Quranic phrase "taqnatu" And "la taqnatu" Was brilliant wordplay.
#iqbal #allamaiqbal #muhammediqbal #thepoetofeast #jibreel #iblish #jibreeloiblish #gabriel
Apart from that there are many interesting bits like Satan's description of this world in first answer, his description of heaven in second answer, describing humans as handful of dust, calling khizar and iliyas(elijah) as no match against him etc.

KUTTE By Faiz Ahmed Faiz
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The conclusion of this poetry hits hard.
Use of words "Ahsaas e jillat - sense/feel of humiliation " and "Soyi hui dumm - sleeping tails" are thought provoking.
This poetry although written for street dogs but metaphorically it's a critique on poor and working class people of the society. people who can't rise above their fate and have become slaves of their masters and society.
Faiz Ahmed Faiz is calling them out to awake their sleeping tails and start feeling "sense of humiliation" to live a better life by revolting against their masters and society.
Do check out above song adaptation by the band called "Nishtar park". In lyrics they have slipped in few lines of allama iqbal in between.

my favorite couplet from "syed ki lauh e turbat".
I have omitted few couplets from the original poetry to make it more to the point.

It's a message of sir syed ahmed khan imagined by Legendary poet and philosopher Muhammad iqbal who is popularly known as allama iqbal the poet of East.
Sir syed ahmed khan was the founder of Aligarh Muslim university. he lived an inspirational life. today he is recognized as a great Muslim social reformer and visionary. irrespective of his changed religious views and interpretations, His deep worry for educating Muslims of his time and efforts to bring them on par with modern world must be respected.

Mirza Ghalib about dreams and reality.
Tumblr media
For a mind a dream is a reality until one awakens.
Tumblr media
Remember this amazing dialogue from inception.
On lighter note the second line " Hai khwab main hanuz jo jage hai khwab main " literally defines false awakening in dream . I have experienced few false awakening dreams , one of them was quite scary but luckily an asr azaan made me awake from it .

whether it's an unfinished poetry or an incomplete relationship or anything in the life that's not reaching a logical end according to you . sometimes it's better to leave it on a beautiful twist / note instead of hanging on it for too long.
