Pansexuality is, and will always be, repackaged bisexuality with a neat little biphobic and transphobic bow.
Pansexuality isn’t valid. PLEASE learn your bisexual history.

I genuinely would love to hear why people identify as pan, poly, omni, or bi+ in a non debating way because I would just love to have an understanding of why and what the identity means to them

A Very Important List of Bisexual Icons
September 23rd is Bisexual Visibility Day. Let’s take a moment to acknowledge some of the wonderful people that are bisexual!
Tumblr media
Billie Joe Armstrong // Green Day “I think I’ve always been bisexual… It’s a beautiful thing.”
Tumblr media
Anna Paquin // Actress “Proud to be a happily married bisexual mother. Marriage is about love not gender. For me, it’s not really an issue because I’m someone who believes being bisexual is actually a thing. It’s not made up. It’s not a lack of decision.”
Tumblr media
Danny Scarborough // Choreographer, dancer, AIDS activist “In 1984, Scarborough received the devastating news that he had AIDS.  He contracted it from a former lover who later died of the disease…Consequently, he went public in 1989 about his bisexuality and AIDS.” (Blackpast.org)
Tumblr media
Bai Ling // Actress “[A]t first when I was in the United States I didn’t always have an interpreter in interviews and I didn’t speak English so well. There was some confusion. My name is pronounced "bi,” so when I was asked, “Are you bi?” I said, “Yes, I am Bai.” Do you like men? “Of course!” Do you like women? “Why yes!” And later I found out what that means and I said, “Sure, I am bi!” But I think the interpreters and the reporters thought that I didn’t know what I was saying because I was so open about it. They were uncomfortable about it. Such a thing is not important for me.“
Tumblr media
David Bowie // Musician and actor "It’s true – I am a bisexual. But I can’t deny that I’ve used that fact very well.”
Tumblr media
Sapphire // Author of Push  “Ramona Lofton, better known as Sapphire, is a self-admitted bisexual, novelist, poet, and performance artist.” (Blackpast.org)
Tumblr media
Alec Guinness // Actor “Sir Alec Guinness was bisexual, a fact that he managed to keep secret during his lifetime, according to three new biographies. He was charged with a homosexual act in a public lavatory in 1946, but managed to keep the episode out of the public eye, according to an authorised biography.” (BBC.co.uk)
Tumblr media
Lady Gaga // Musician “You know what? It’s not a lie that I am bisexual and I like women, and anyone that wants to twist this into ‘she says she’s bisexual for marketing,’ this is a fucking lie. This is who I am and who I have always been.”
Tumblr media
Jason Mraz // Musician “We still have a long way to go But know I am bi your side. All ways.”
Tumblr media
Frenchie Davis // Musician and Broadway actress “I didn’t plan to come out, but I’m really thankful that everything unfolded the way it did because no, I’m not straight; none of the guys I’ve been with made me straight, just like being madly in love with my partner right now doesn’t make me a lesbian. I’m a bisexual woman and it is what it is. I have enjoyed men thoroughly, and I can say the same thing about women.”
Tumblr media
Fergie // Musician Interviewer: “After you discussed past sexual experiences with women in an interview with The Sun in May, headlines everywhere read, ‘Fergie Admits She’s Bisexual!’” Fergie: “The funny thing is that I was very open and honest about that from the very beginning, and everyone was acting like it was some new trend. Go back four or five years, people, and you’ll see the same answer.”
Tumblr media
Alan Cumming // Musician, play actor, and comedian “I still define myself as a bisexual even though I have chosen to be with Grant. I’m sexually attracted to the female form even though I am with a man and I just feel that bisexuals have a bad rap.”

Genuine question why can't you like....just let pan people vibe and do their own thing and you can do your own thing like just cuz you don't identify as pan doesn't make it inherently bad and there IS a difference
The pansexual label has done irreparable damage to the bisexual movement and I feel the need to speak on this issue, I’m not targeting anyone specifically and I don’t hate people who identify as pansexual because most of them just don’t understand, which I can’t blame them for, the truth is a convoluted mess
And yes you are right there is a difference, the difference being the intentions and meanings of the creation of the label and the history behind it

Gilbert Baker (2017) vs Daniel Quasar (2018)
I’m normally not one for flag discourse but I do find this quite interesting.
Gilbert Baker designed this 9-stripe flag in 2017 before he passed away, the 8 colours all have their original meanings (sex, life, healing, sunlight, nature, magic/art, serenity, spirit.) Baker added the lavender stripe to represent diversity. The original pride flag designed by Gilbert Baker in 1978 was a symbol for the LGBTQ community as an entirety.
Daniel Quasar says the following about xyr design;
"This new design forces the viewer to reflect on their own feelings towards the original Pride flag and its meaning, as well as the differing opinions on who that flag really represents, while also bringing into clear focus the current needs within our community". -Daniel Quasar
Xe wanted to promote diversity and inclusivity in their design.
It is possible that Quasar was not aware of Bakers inclusive design, and while I do think it is important to represent new creators; I do believe that Gilbert Baker’s flag should be honoured as he was the creator of the original pride flag. Baker’s design also proceeded and represented the same meaning as Quasar’s.
While the black and brown stripes are meant to represent POC inclusion the fact that there are only two colours is more exclusionary than anything in the big picture; there are more than just black and brown POC. It is absolutely important to have spaces within POC communities but you have to wonder why people want to separate people based on race. The trans flag colours are also unnecessary, the original Baker pride flag included the entirety of the LGBTQ community, which included trans people.
While I understand that Quasar was concerned for the inclusivity within the LGBTQ community, it does seem as if xyr was uneducated on what Baker stood for and the meaning of the flag.

honestly, shout out to bisexuals that have to deal with biphobia. biphobia from friends, from family, from strangers, from straight people, from the lgbt community, from celebrities, from television, from music–
we are incredibly strong to have experienced biphobia, and still kept going. and still kept being ourselves.
and for those of us who are still in the closet, or went back in the closet, or are otherwise withholding themselves because biphobia? it’s okay! one day, you will find strength, you will find people who matter, who will support you! one day, you’ll be able to be authentically yourself!
don’t give up now, just because you can’t see the sunrise just yet doesn’t mean that it isn’t coming <3

bisexuality is not and has never been limiting!
bisexuals have always love trans and nonbinary people!
bisexuals have always broken gender norms!
bisexuals have always found their loves and their identities both inside and outside of the binary!
it’s silly to pretend that bisexuals are limited in any way. we love everyone! we have historically always been attracted to the same sex and the opposite sex, to same and like genders, to normal and abstract forms of gender and self expression. we are a fluid, whole identity and our bisexuality impacts us in a wide range of ways. bisexuality will never be limiting and we are allowed to be loud and proud about it!

bi women cannot “fetishize” wlw relationships
bi men cannot “fetishize” mlm relationships
our love is just as deep as everyone else’s love. our desires are just as good. our experiences are just as important and validating. liking another gender does not “ruin” or lessen our same gender attraction. we belong here, and we will always belong.

idk I just feel like if someone made up false information that impacted a community for 20 years to promote their own label then I should be able to question the necessity and validity of that label :/
