alec: *tries desperately to protect his siblings and then his 9 year-old brother gets murdered, sees his parabatai fall for someone he will never be able to have, experiences feeling that your parabatai is dead, comes out to his parents but never feels completely accepted, mourns his father’s death, becomes consoul after contributing to saving the shadow world twice but instead of being praised gets shamed for his sexuality and loving a downworlder, sees the love of his life almost dying multiple times*

magnus: *almost gets drowned by his own father and has to kill him to save himself, lives for centuries seeing the people he loves die without him being able to do anything, gets involved in shadowhunter business for affection again knowing he’ll end up getting hurt, falls hard for alec and will have to experience seeing him die one day, almost dies himself on a multitude of occasions, thinks the love of his life will always get shamed for loving him, and so much more I’d have to write a fucking essay*
