(NnK2) OO I got one, Hydropolis is under attack and they call for Evermore‘s help. Maybe a small scene with Leander looking over the warzone? (you can ignore this if you want)
okok so i thought the idea for this one was super dope but i kiiinda changed it a bit along the way so it went from like this uplifting short to angst central, hope you don't mind how it turned out but i had a lotta fun writing it!!
content warnings: feels n mild gore
word count: 895 (finally something short)
The tides pushed and pulled themselves at the crumbling city of Hydropolis, commanded by the moon hidden underneath the rays of the harsh sun reflecting off the ocean waves and into the eyes of soldiers as they fought. Much like the tides, soldiers commanded by their superiors hidden underneath the safety of their own status. Leander stood, a top one of the various structures that made up the city as it prepared to crumble beneath him. The sight, horrific in nature, tugged at the strings of his heart, as if the swaying tides did the pulling. His kingdom was eroding away before his eyes. After all him and Nereia had done, after all the precautions they had taken, it all amouted to nothing.
"Leander!" A roaring voice brought him out of his trance, though he didn't bother to turn around to face the voice. "We could really use your help right now!" Roland yelled, swinging his sword into another enemy who had followed him up to the ledge. The body fell limp as the swing took his life, and his body tumbled to the water below, landing with a splash into the water and tainting it a haunting shade of crimson red.
"Why?" Leander asked, void of any emotion in his tone. "To contribute to the death and destruction the rest of you are causing?"
"What are you talking about, Leander?" Roland asked, stepping closer to the ledge.
"You know what I'm talking about." He responded, finally deciding to turn around and face his friend. The look in Roland's eyes set something ablaze in Leander, as if it was tugging at his soul itself, screaming at him to just listen. "My love and I went through years of peace, precautions to keep our people alive, and happy. But then you arrived." Leander took a stop towards Roland. "You and Evan show up out of nowhere with the intent to save the world. But maybe, the world didn't need to be saved-"
"Listen, I don't know what you're getting at here, Leander," Roland said in a serious tone, narrowing his eyes at him. "But I suggest you come off it."
"You wanted to save the world, right? To make it a better place?" Leander asked, not breaking eye contact with Roland. Nothing changed in either of the men's features as the distance between them closed in. Leander gestured to the sea, "Is that what you consider better? Better than the peace we had put in place?" Hundreds of bodies floated a top of the water, blood pooling out of each of them and tainted the one mesmerizing water around them a hideous shade of their blood. "I don't know what you call peace in your world, but in ours this certainly isn't it."
"Leander," Roland sounded desperate. "You can help solve this, it isn't too late. It's neither of our faults-"
"Of course it's your fault!" Leander yelled, finally loosing his composure. His glasses fogged up, and he didn't bother to think as he grabbed Roland by the edge of his collar and hung him over the edge. Rolands grip on his sword left as it fell from his hand and down to sea bellow, joining the bodies.
"Leander-"
"You're...wrong!" He seethed out. "Hydropolis would be perfectly fine if you hadn't come here and changed everything in this world up. We would be living peacfully, eternally, under the law and eye of my love, her majesty. Does this look like any of pthat to you? The city is crumbling to pieces, no help from you."
"Leander." A second voice spoke from out of his view. His furious expression faltered, and turned towards the voice.
"Your Majesty..." He breathed.
"Leander, let him go." Nereia spoke calmly. Leander obeyed, swinging Roland back onto solid ground. Roland gave him a disapproving look, before turning away, walking past Nereia in search of a new weapon.
"I'm deeply sorry, your Majesty. I didn't mean for you to see such a vulgar side of me."
"I understand, Leander. These are tough times. But there is no use blaming anyone for it." She said, stepping towards him and embracing him. He untensed himself in the arms of his wife, allowing him to calm down.
"My actions were incalled for, my love, I insist on apologizing."
"Well then," Nereia pulled away and looked him in the eye. She was tired. "Apology accepted. But you must understand...All those precautions we took were wrong, and just come to an end."
"You don't mean.."
"Yes, Leander, it is time for the city of Hydropolis to come to a long awaited end. And with it, us. I pray you don't have any regrets, as this is the end of the road, for you, I, and our people."
Leander smiled weakly. He felt an odd sense of happiness for their current situation. "Of course not, my love, for ruling by your side has been the greatest pleasure any life could ever grant me. I can't wait to meet you in my next life, and embrace it even more." He held her face as tears rolled down her cheeks. She pressed a quick kiss to his soft lips, and pulled away. "Ditto, dear." She whispered across his face, before the final bits of their kingdom crumbled apart, sending them into the depths of the sea to join their beloved subjects.

"Phew!" Bracken exclaimed, wiping the last remaining beads of sweat off from above her brow. She had just impressively delivered the final blow on an enemy. "That group of wyverns sure put up a fight."
"Right you are, I'm pooped." Lofty exclaimed, flinging himself back onto the ground with a soft thud. Evan giggled, grabbing him from under his tiny little arms and placing him back onto his stubby legs. You were too busy to listen to what the rest of the group had to say but your eyes were fixated on the blood dripping down from your shoulder, hitting the ground in bright splotches of dark red.
"(Y/N)?" Rolands voice snapped you out of your thoughts and you quickly brought your eyes up to his deep brown ones that melted you at his glance. How you wished you could swim in his iris', forever bathing in his loving gaze. "Are you coming?" He asked. You moved in the way of the blood puddle pooling behind you, and hid your arm behind your back and you held it at the elbow with your other one.
"Oh, yeah... uhm, where exactly...?" You asked, internally cringing at your stutter and how nervous you were acting under his presence.
"Goldpaw?" He responded, more as a question than an answer. "It's getting late, we might as well turn in and return to Evermore in the morning."
"Oh, yeah, let's go!" You responded gleefully and began walking up the sand fields towards Goldpaw. Making sure Roland was walking in front of you and wasn't looking, you casted a glance at your arm. The sight almost made you sick. Dark blood pooled down your arm and dripped through your fingers, leaving a trail of dark dots behind you. Luckily the majority of it was hidden under your armor, but there was no way to hide it from falling from your un-gloved hand. You winced looking at it. It hurt like hell, and you wanted nothing more then to tell one of them and get it bandaged up- No! You couldn't tell them. You'll just look like a weak crybaby who can't fight! They'll judge you, and kick you out. Not like they'd notice - much less care, anyway. You always felt like an outsider in the group. Everyone had an area of expertise and held signifigence to King Evan? helping him to the upbringing of Evermore. Bracken was the mechanical expert, Batu the barracks runner, Leander the lawman. And not to mention the dreamy chief consul. Oh Cassiopeia, how you swooned over Roland Crane. How couldn't you? His presence held a sense of power, yet a calmingness and the same time. He was honest, yet kind. Stern, yet humorous. The perfect balance of a man. The way he walked with such purpose and authority. The slight sway of his hips, and how his ponytail glimmered in the moonlight as you walked behind him. The sight of him almost distracted you from your pain until-
"Hnngh...!" You groaned in pain, clutching your arm behind your back so hard it went numb faster than you could register.
"(Y/N)?" Roland asked, turning around to face you. The rest of the group infront of him had stopped as well, pausing to look at you over their shoulders. "Are you okay?" He asked, reaching to grab you, but you quickly pivoted out of his grasp.
"I'm fine. Just... feeling a little sick to the stomach is all." You lied.
"Oh, no!" Evan exclaimed from the very front. "I was hoping to go and get some Spicy Streak Noodles before we all hit the inn."
"It's okay," you quickly interrupted. It only further confirmed your theory about how they don't care. It's no surprise that Evan cared more about the well being of everyone else before you. "You guys can go without me, I'll just stay at the inn and turn in early."
"Are you sure (Y/N)? It wouldn't be any trouble." Evan asked concerned.
You smiled at his forced optimism and kindness, "None at all, your Majesty." The rest of the group turned back around and continued across the gate to Goldpaw, but Roland's eyes kept on you. This was odd, Roland for the most part never spared too long a glance to you, let alone longer than everyone else. You looked at him quizzically. "What?" You said with a light chuckle, trying to laugh and hide the pulsating pain your shoulder shot through your chest and increasing numbness of your arm. Roland looked you up and down for a moment. You panicked, thinking he would notice the blood pile that must've accumulated under you by now. To your surprise, he looked back up and met your eyes.
"Promise you're okay?" He asked, dropping his voice.
"Promise." You responded with a weak smile. He nodded, and turned around to follow the rest of the group. Letting out a small sigh, you kept walking as well. Right back to acting just like everyone else. You had known Roland a few weeks now, and not once have you managed to have a conversation with him without getting flustered and feeling butterflies in your stomach. Deep down, you knew he didn't care about you as much as he led onto. You just wished he'd act himself around you, and not have to pretend to care. You felt useless in his presence. Somedays you tried to avoid him altogether to run away from this feeling of intense worthlessness and self pity, but everyday you did try to avoid him you would end up gazing at the blue sky and thinking about him. One way or another, you always led yourself back to the castle to greet him. Though, he didn't always seem as eager to see you as you did him. It hurt, of course his unenthusiasm hurt, of course the feeling you got around him hurt, but it was all worth it for him.
Once the rest of the gang had left you alone in your inn room, you groaned at the pain you felt in your arm. Or rather, what you didn't feel in your arm. Going with the story of having a stomach flu, Leander had been persistent on taking your tempature to make sure it wasn't a common head cold as well, Bracken offered to make soup to calm your 'upset stomach' and Evan had offered many, many times to stay back and not make you lonely. You had insisted not to on all three of them, as you just wished they would leave the room so you could tend to your wounds and not just grit your teeth and bite your tongue discreetly. Ripping off your arm wear without a care in the world, you felt your eyes fall to the back of your head at the sight. A sight too foul for words. The amount of blood caused you to feel lightheaded. Normally you weren't squeamish at this stuff, but the amount of it was overwhelming. Your vision quickly became impaired, blurring and blotching with black dots. Your hearing had felt as though someone was muffling it, and as you stood the room began to spin so fast you could barely stand up right. With your breathing becoming faster and heartbeat in your ears getting louder, your legs became too weak and gave out from underneath you. Falling to the ground it what seemed like slow motion, the last thing you thought was hoping you wouldn't die as suddenly- You had been engulfed in a pair of warm, comforting arms. Forcing heavy and swollen feeling eyes open, you were met with the blurry ceiling off the hotel rooms bathroom. The ground beneath you, you lay with your back flat and it was cold, and uncomfortable. The feeling in your right arm, the one you had been wounded on and lost feeling of, you now could sense a weight on it, something warm. "God Dammit, (Y/N)…" You heard Rolands voice echo off the walls in your head. You tried to turn your head up to him to get a good look but found it harder to move than you had thought. Mumbling random words, it got his attention to your consciousness. "No, no." He stated, holding your face in one of his hands. You got a blurry look at his deep brown, fear laced eyes. "(Y/N), doll, close your eyes. You need to rest...Go back to sleep..." He drifted, soothing you by shushing and rubbing his thumb over your cheek. Before you knew it, your eyelids became heavy enough that they shut on their own. It made you feel calm, and peaceful to be in this state. Wherever you were, whatever you were feeling in this moment of unconsciousness, felt comforting. It was warm, the kind of warm you feel when you jump into bed and pull the blankets over your body after a long day. But at the same time, as if you were being held and cared for by someone you loved deeply, and they loved you back. It was as if you had been touch starved, deprived of this feeling your whole life and now you had the chance to bathe in it for all of eternity. Basking in your own enjoyment, the voice of the man you held so closely to your heart began to surround you like the same warmth and love that radiated off of you in this state. Before you knew it, your eyes were open again. They felt swollen, and heavier to open than normal. The feeling of being bathed in the comfort you were engulfed in only moments ago, had quickly faded and brought you back to reality.
"Hey," Rolands voice seemed to come from the beyond. "How you holding up, (Y/N)?" Squinting your puffy eyes and looking around the room, you found Roland sitting at the end of the bed you had been tucked into, presumably by him. He sat with one leg crossed under him, and the other loosely hanging off the edge of the mattress, staring intently into your eyes. You took notice of his hand resting upon your leg through the covers, and felt a wave of heat crash over your cheeks.
"I... Good as I can be, 'suppose..." You mumbled a response quietly. Roland tilted his head at you like a dog, and knitted his eyebrows together in concern. The look he gave you was almost so full of warmth and love that you felt as though you were back in your dream state.
"(Y/N)… Why didn't you say anything?" He asked seriously. You sucked in a breath, debating whether or not you wanted to reply. He took notice of this, and pleased one last time for you to tell.
"I just... Didn't want to bother you guys with my injury-"
"Bother us!?" Roland interrupted in a loud whisper. "(Y/N), you could've died! You're not bothering us with your life on the line."
"I know, I know!..." You defended pointlessly. "It's just that, well... admittedly, I didn't think you guys would care. All of you are so cool out there, doing everything you can offer to help Evan bring up Evermore and the Declaration of Interdependance. Djin, you guys are out there changing the world for Cassiopeia's sake! But I always feel like I'm just... there, y'know? Existing in the sidelines and watching you guys. And you all let me because you feel bad for how sorry I am, and-"
"Doll," Roland interrupted. This was the second time today he called you that, and it made your heart skip a beat. "Do you really feel that way? Because it isn't true. I know that, everyone else does, and it hurts me to know that you don't. Everything we do, is a team effort. We wouldn't be able to do it without you. Hell, I wouldn't even be able to do it without you... You- You mean a lot more to me than I lead on, y'know..." He trailed off with a light laugh.
"Roland~" You cooed with a bright smile now on your face. "You're the sweetest." You had attempted to sit up a bit from laying down, but were quicky reminded of the wound on your arm. Looking at it, Roland had done a good job at patching it discreetly and hiding it under your sleeve.
"Hey, don't push it. I- We can't afford to loose you, remember that." Roland slipped up, quickly standing and rushing to your side. Smiling up at him, you expression quickly faded once something dawned on you.
"Oh Pea, you've got to go and join them at the noodle shop, don't you?" You asked frantically.
"What? No," He answered again with another laugh. "I'm not leaving you, (Y/N), okay? Never again." He had whispered the last part to himself, but you smiled none the less at it.
"Okay, then." You settled yourself back into the bed and turned to face Roland once again. "Can you do me a favor?" You asked.
"Of course, anything, dear."
"Can you please... Not tell Evan and the others about my, y'know..." You wiggled your arm and took notice of it.
"Ah," He stretched out. "If that's how you want it, I'll spare you Evans 'oh golly' speech. We've heard enough of those for a lifetime." He chuckled, turning away to tuck into the other bed.
An idea sprung to your mind, "Oh, and Roland?" He turned around with a raised brow. "Would you mind... Sleeping next to me tonight. You don't have to, but it would be really comforting if you did..." You said sheepishly. You could see his cheeks twitch as he tried to hide a grin, through his eyes still crinkled at the corner as he turned around.
"I thought you'd never ask. I'd be delighted." As Roland slipped into the bed and under the comforter next to you turning off the light, you had scooched closer to him and he instinctively wrapped his arms around you. You smiled contently at this notion. Your last thought was about how you had barely stuttered for the first time during that entire conversation, before you felt a loving kiss press to your temple, and you were once again sent into your state of bathing in comforting bliss.
BONUS:
Faint snickers were heard from the majority of the group as they snuck into the dark bedroom of the inn. Evan made an attempt not to wake the sleeping couple, tiptoeing in and shushing the rest. Lofty, Batu, Tani and Bracken were found tossing gil around to each other, apparently whoever had won the bet of when you two would finally get together. Leander, unlike the rest, was in the midst of gagging on the corner at the sight of you two.

Ever since Roland laid eyes on the Heartlands, he knew it would be a special place to him. The land resonated with him, like he had been searching for it all his life. He was ever so greatful he was able to see it before he would die, and he often stared off at it on his free time. Sitting by the edge of Evermore and following the tides of the sea as they rolled in, or maybe gazing at the landscape of the various mountains and hills in the distance. Perhaps he observed the animals passing by, though less often than not, as with each step they took seemed to cause his heart to sink a little deeper. Ever since he found a book in Bodly's library that read the monsters are simply cursed animals who can only be freed and turned back to normal when they're killed in the cursed state, it pained Roland to watch them roam around, trapped in their cursed bodies. Roland had a deep love for the land - and for righteousness. He believed no being, animal or human, should be forced to live in the way these monsters were. Because of this belief, he often took it upon himself to roam around the land, ridding them of their misery. It pained him to hear their cries as he delivered the final blow, but he would always remind himself they're finally back in a better place. It wasn't a past time he enjoyed to do, but rather a duty he felt it was his job to fulfill. He did it alone, without the knowledge of any of his friends - especially Evan. Roland couldn't bear to tell Evan the truth about these creatures, how they were nothing but innocent animals before being turned into what they are today. He planned to keep it a secret, until one day he ran into Evan and Tani while in the middle of battle. They had ran to his aid, though he was never really in any trouble, and he dreaded the conversation he would have with the two when it was over.
"Roland? What ever are you doing out here?"
"I could ask you the same question." He replied to the king with a hand on his hip.
"Henny had asked us to find her a rare mushroom only found in The Forrest of Niall to show her students. Would you like to come with us?" Evan explained.
Roland agreed, "Sure. I don't want you kids out here on your own, after all."
"So why exactly were you out here on your own then, Roland?" Tani had piped up as they began making their way towards Wiggly Way.
"Oh, you know," Roland tried to think of a lie. "Just getting some practice in with some easy foes near the kingdom." He smiled to himself slyly, it was pretty goddamn believable for him being on the spot like this.
"I guess that could make sense," Tani said, running up in front of Roland and blocking his way. "If only you weren't lying!"
"Tani!" Evan yelled at the pink haired girl from beside them.
"What do you mean by that?" Roland asked innocently. Of course, he knew he could use Evan's naive nature to his advantage and protect him, but dealing with sky pirate, Batu raised Tani might be a tad bit harder.
"Don't think I don't know you, Roland. I can tell when you're lying. Now tell us the truth!" Roland knew he didn't have to, Tani wouldn't hurt him and he wouldn't hurt Tani, but he figured in that moment it was best to explain the truth to them both. And ever since that moment that the truth had been revealed to him, Evan had made a constant effort to rid the animals from their prisons as often as they could, and all together as a team.
That moment was what brought Roland to where he was today, running through the grassy parts of the Heartlands with his new found friends as their laughter filled the air from the innocent banter between them all. The sun set the sky ablaze in the distance, resulting in different colours all across the spectrum of red and orange as the sun set over the blue ocean. Over the horizon, a small purple smoke looking substance flew from Nazcaä, emitting into the sky in streams floating all over the region. It seemed as if they were carried by the warms winds of the world at dusk, the ones that causes the grass to sway at the groups feet and for the leaves high in the trees to rustle together, mixed with the sounds of the tide pushing and pulling itself back to shore. It felt safe. It felt happy. It felt like home. Roland couldn't remember the last time he was felt this peaceful. Life back home certainly was nothing short of hectic, but being seperated from it caused him to find a newfound appreciation for his life back home. He couldn't help but wonder if he would ever go back to see it one day. Deeply caught up in his thoughts, Roland hadn't even noticed he had stopped walking to enjoy the scenery until Lofty's high voice interrupted. "Rolly boy, don't go fallin' behind now! We got monsters to free!" Roland opened his mouth to call back to the group, but found he couldn't get any words to come out.
'Thats odd,' Roland thought to himself, and attempted to call back to them again, but to no avail. By this time Lofty had already turned back around and continued walking with the others, leaving all eyes turned away from him. Roland didn't remember grabbing his sword, all he remembered was the feeling of the handle against his palm and his feet hitting the green land before he slowly crept up behind Evan. He wanted to warn them, to scream and shout something was wrong, but no matter how hard his mind commanded his body to stop he just couldn't. He tried to throw himself on the ground, swing his limbs in every which direction - anything to stop himself from hurting his friends. The purple that crept it's way into the corners of his vision told him who's work this was, and he knew unless he did something fast, it wouldn't end well. He quickly found himself only steps away from Evan, his sword slowly raised above his head. Roland was begging for them to turn around, to notice what was wrong with him. His sword was directly above Evans crown, ready to strike when-
"Evan, duck and roll!" Before he could register what happened, a loud slashing sound filled the once calm sound of the air, as Rolands sword made contact with the ground where Evan was standing only mere seconds ago. Without hesitation, the king had listened to the chief consuls words, no questions asked and was now only a few feet away, curled up on the ground and covered in dirt.
"What the hell, Roland!?" Bracken screamed in his ear as he roughly pulled it out of the dirt and quickly went charging back for Evan. Assuming his mouth still worked, and the king wasn't paralyzed, he tried screaming again.
"Evan, out of the way!" Once again his voice came out, and his slash barely missed the young boy. This time he wasted no time standing up from the ground and adjusting his crown.
"Oh, Roland! What ever has gotten into you?" Evan asked with concern, clearly aware Roland would never do this on his own accord.
"Doloran." He quickly spat out in response, not sure how much longer he would be allowed the control of his voice.
He heard Tani gasp, "He's right, look at the purple aura around him..."
Roland went for another swing at Evan, this time Batu blocking it with his spear and pushing Roland back to the dirt.
"Listen here ya slimy lookin reptile," He yelled into Rolands face, holding up by the collar. "I dun know what ya think yer plannin up there in that ol horned one o' yur's, but it ain't gonna work much longer long as I'm around! Let Rolly here go before I make ya, ya nasty scaly swab!" Throwing him down to the ground, Roland felt control of his body once more, before the feeling quickly diminished and he swung his sword at Batu's ankles. "Aight, that there does it-"
"Batu!" Roland yelled as the large man pulled back an arrow the size of his daughter and aimed it right at his head.
"Batu, stop! Don't you dare!" Evan protested, hanging off his bicep. "You'll hurt Roland! It's only Doloran controlling his body, he's still in there!" Batu put down the bow and arrow, and Leander walked closer to Rolands ever purple glowing figure.
"This is extremely advanced, dark magic... I must say, as much as I despise Doloran, his work here is very clean."
"Nevermind how he's doing it!" Bracken interrupted, "How do we stop it before Roland gets himself or someone else killed!?"
"That," Leander said pushing his glasses up the bride of his nose. "I'm not exactly clear on just yet..."
"Fight it, Roland!" Tani screamed as he swung at Evan once more, who this time was barely fast enough to duck out of the way. Roland felt groggy, and weak. No matter how hard he wanted to deadweight right now, his body kept pushing itself forward after his friends.
"You're stronger than this, Roland!" Evan encouraged from behind the safe figure of Batu. "Doloran fights with hate!" The sound of Evans word's ringing through his ears caused his body to slow down. "You can't let yourself succumb to that, you just can't! Youre so full of light, Roland..." More and more words, ringing and bouncing across the walls of his head. "You know you're stronger than Doloran, In know- We all know!" His grip on the sword loosened, and it fell farther through his fingers and closer to the ground. "Doloran can't win, he simply can't! Because there's too much love in your heart!" He fell to his knees. "You do so much for us..." The sword dropped to the ground next to him. "We all love you..." His face collided with the dirt. "I love you, Roland." The voice came from right next to him, and he peered up from his now purple-less vision to see Evans bright blonde hair and big blue teary eyes staring right back at him as he craddled the weak and tired chief consul in his arms before the swaying grass and setting sun. "It's good to have you back, Roland."

Everyone always knew there was a certain connection between Evan and Roland no one could ever explain. Roland came at a very particular time in Evan's life, and a good thing he did too. Fighting the battle of loosing his father was hard on Evan alone, but now Roland was there by his side to help him, to guide him, and Evan was ever thankful for it. Overtime, the lines in the young kings mind began to blur as how he thought the chief consul.
"He's a friend," he always told himself. "The greatest friend I could ever ask for." And Evan was right, Roland truly was the greatest friend he could ask for. Which is why he didn't understand when he told that to Bracken she laughed in his face. Not in a mean way, of course, but as if he was oblivious to something.
"What is it, Bracken?" He had asked as the girl clutched her stomach in laughter.
"Oh nothing, King Evan. It just seems you of all people know the least about what's going on here. It's cute."
What's going on? The question repeated itself through Evan's mind all day. He couldn't figure out why it wouldn't slip from him, it was stuck like a giant waterproof stamp on his head. What ever did she mean? Wondering this question to himself, Evan strolled around his kingdom of Evermore, greeting his citizens as he walked by, though never really paying enough attention to recall what he had said to them. How could he, after all, when his mind was racing faster than the sky pirate children in Hydropolis. No matter how hard he tried, he simply could not shake Bracken's statement off. Perhaps he should go back to her and ask her what she meant? No, Bracken was busy with Fai Do at the weapons workshop, and Evan didn't want to bother her. But he needed to talk to someone about it, anyone, and fast. Because as the gleaming sun continued to glide across the blue skies of Evermore, it's king became less and less bright. Maybe Bracken meant that Roland did not think of him as the greatest friend ever, maybe he didn't return the feeling of greatfulnes for Evan in his life. Maybe she meant Roland secretly resented Evan and wanted nothing to do with him. Maybe she meant Roland wasn't close with him, he could be closer with Leander or Batu or Tani or Lofty or-
"Hello, your Majesty!" A bright voice brought Evan out of his thoughts. He had been paying such little attention to the world around him as he was swept up in his thoughts he barely noticed himself making his way towards the shops.
"Hello, Floyd! How are you today?" Evan asked with a smile, approaching the grimalkin. Perhaps Floyd and his food could take Evan's mind off the ever growing pit of doubt spreading through his stomach.
"Swell, thanks for asking. What about yourself?"
"I- Well, actually, I uh..." Evan trailed off. He wanted to keep his problem to himself, not bother Floyd with it while he was working, but the king just didn't have the heart to lie to his citizens.
"Need to talk about it?" Floyd asked with his eyebrow whiskers knitted together.
Evan nodded, "If you don't mind." Floyd may have only been an aspiring chef, but the pit eating Evan alive was screaming at him to do something about it. As soon as Evan agreed, he felt the knot loosen up a little.
"Sure thing!" Floyd beamed. "Take a seat, I'll fix something up for you while we talk." Evan nodded, and hoisted his tiny self up onto one of the stools Floyd had set in front of the shop.
"I like this setup, Floyd!" Evan smiled, looking at the decor the chef had taken upon himself to add. "It reminds me of the noodle shop in Goldpaw, almost."
Floyd chuckled as he tossed something in a pan that Evan couldn't see. "Yeah, I visited there not too long ago to talk to the owner about a few recipes in the cookbook he gave me. It was a little out dated, and I figured they had some new ones I could try out."
"That's great!" Evan beamed. For a moment he almost forgot about the worrisome in the back of his mind. "I can't wait to try your new recipes."
"I'd be honored, your Majesty." Floyd smiled, placing a plate of an om-nom-omelet in front of the king. Evan could feel himself salivating just at the sight of it. He had seen them before, of course, but never tried one himself. He quickly dug into the meal as Floyd leaned against the counter.
"This is delicious, Floyd!" Evan mumbled over the food, completely forgetting his manners and having a bit of egg yolk dribble down his chin.
Floyd chucked, "Thank you, your Majesty. Now, what was it you wanted to talk about?" Evan's chewing slowed down, and he set down his cutlery and swallowed as he wiped his face with the napkin he had been given.
"Its a little embarrassing, you see... Something Bracken said to me earlier has stuck with me all day and I don't know why."
"What was it she said?" The grimalkin asked.
"Well, she didn't really say anything. She laughed at me. Not in a mean way, of course, she would never! But she acted as if she knew something I didn't... something about me.."
"What do you think she meant by that?" Floyd asked, now pouring two glasses of ice water.
"I...I don't know. We we're just talking about Roland and I, and I mentioned how he was a good friend and she just- she just laughed! She laughed and told me I knew the least about this situation, and I don't know what she means by that-"
"Don't know what she means by what?" A voice asked. Evan looked from his om-nom-omelot to answer Floyd, but saw him pointing behind him. Turning around, he almost fell off the chair at the sight of the chief consul.
"R-Roland!?" Evan yelled. "What are you doing here?"
Roland shrugged, "I finished my work at the castle with Batu and Leander. Needed a breath of fresh air so I figured I'd go for a quick stroll. What're you doing here?" He asked. Evan felt as if something had caught his tongue, and stuttered in answering. He couldn't possibly tell him he had been wandering around and stumbled upon Floyd because he was busy thinking about Roland. Busy thinking about how Roland must hate Evan. Of course. What else could Bracken mean? But he didn't want to bring that up to Roland, no, no, no! What if he makes Roland feel bad for putting him on the spot in front of Floyd? But- but he couldn't possibly lie to him. Even if Roland didn't like Evan, Evan still thought of Roland as his best friend and he-
"He came by to try an om-nom-omelette." Floyd answered for him, noticing how the young king had been shaking in nervousness.
"Ah, I see. Maybe I'll try one too-"
"Uhm, excuse me?" Another small voice interrupted them. Evan peeked past Roland, who turned around to face Hipponoe.
"Hey there." Roland greeted, sending her a warm smile. The sight of it caused Evan's stomach to flip, as if he couldn't keep Floyd's meal down. He felt as though he had taken a small version of Mornstar through the chest, and the pain grew and grew the more Roland spoke to Hipponoe, and by the time he agreed to go with her to speak about something it spread through his whole body. This pain caused by their interaction seeped through his veins, spread to the very end of his fingertips and bloomed out of his head he was sure his hair strands had felt it too." "Hope you don't mind, Floyd, I'll have to take you up on that offer some other time. See you later, Evan!" Roland called as Hipponoe took his hand in hers and turned away towards the direction of the gardens.
"Y-Your Majesty... are you okay..?" Floyd asked weakly. Evan didn't understand his question until he realized his grimalkin ears had been stuck flat to the crown of his head and his tail stuck out straight behind him, as if he was threatened by Roland leaving him.
Evan quicky calmed down," I-I'm okay. Thank you, Floyd." A silence followed Evan's statement as Floyd looked down, fumbling with the string on his apron. A warm breeze blew through Evermore, lightly ruffling the leaves on the trees nearby and rocking the ice cubes together that had nearly melted in the water.
"I think I'm beginning to understand what Bracken meant earlier... " Floyd spoke up. Evan forced himself to pry his eyes off Roland and Hipponoe's figures fleeting away in the distance and looked him in the eye, indicating for him to continue. "I think what she meant was that you don't just see Roland as a best friend, you see him as something more. You see him as a father figure." Floyd stated quietly, as if he was walking on eggshells as not to anger his Majesty after his outbreak a moment ago. Evan only looked at him in confusion." Well- well, what I mean is... " Floyd continued, a bit louder this time. "You met him after the death of King Leonhard, and he took care of you when you lost Aranella. It would make sense if you saw him that way, in fact it might even be healthy for you, Your Majesty. And from what I've seen just now, you're quite attatched to him."
"I..." Evan paused, staring down at his unfinished food. "I think you're right, Floyd." He said slowly.
Floyd flashed him a warm smile, "Come back later and I'll make you and Roland one together, this is on the house."
Evan nodded, appreciating Floyd's kindness, and quickly took off in the direction Roland had gone, hoping his assumption about going to the garden was correct. During his time at Floyd's the sun had began to set and the lights around Evermore Bracken had insisted placing around for the aesthetic began to glow on. Not paying any attention to anything besides the pink hues of the sky and the golden lights, Evan collided with a body and almost fell to the brick ground of Aranella square before he was caught at the wrist and hauled back onto his feet.
"Woah, there Evan. You okay?" Evan looked up to be met with the deep brown eyes of Roland, laced with concern.
"Roland... I thought you were supposed to be with Hipponoe."
"I was," Roland said taking his hand off Evan's and placing it on his own hip. "But she just wanted to use me as a painting subject."
"Do you not want her to paint you?" Evan asked, confused. Hipponoe's paintings were of the best in the world, and he couldn't understand why Roland wouldn't want a self portrait from her.
"No, not that. Hipponoe can find someone else to draw, not like we're gonna run out of people in Evermore anytime soon. But, who knows how many more eggs Floyd has. That's clearly a more pressing matter." Roland said with a smirk. Evan felt the pit of uncertainty and jealousy he had been feeling all day suddenly disappear as tears pricked at the corners of his large eyes. "Hey- hey now, what's wrong Evan?" Roland asked, bending down on one knew to get face to face with him and wipe away his tears with the sleeve of his robe.
"N-Nothing...I... I just, - I really want... Want... "
"You really wanna go get an om-nom-omelette?" Roland finished, and chuckled at Evan's fast nod mixed with his sniffle.
"Well then," Roland took Evan's hand in his own." Let's get going, shall we?"

This wasn't going to be an easy fight - and they knew it. Just hours before, the team had been preparing in Broadleaf, running around town completing people's errands to collect some extra guilders for supplies. But they didn't expect the tomb the Faerie was supposedly in to be filled with monsters well above their levels, and categories all across the spectrum - making Lofty's tactic tweaker absolutely useless to them. Nevertheless, they had pressed through together and made it to the tainted monster. As soon as they were enveloped by the purple mist and whisked away to the different land, the Faerie wasted no time on her offensive attacks. Unleashing abnormally strong attacks, creating other tainted monsters to fight alongside her, and worst of all - targeting Evan. The rest of the team did the best they could to deflect attacks sent towards him but the amount of enemies the Faerie created was overwhelming. Roland barely had any time between throwing soreaway to his allies and activating higgldies to even fight. Batu was trying to get a weak point on the Faerie from behind her back, but kept getting hit with a spray she emitted. Tani stood farther back, trying for more ranged attack but that didn't stop the little tainted monsters from racing her down. Bracken knew they didn't have a lot of soreaway left, and was busy conserving her energy to activate her healing robot if need be. This left Leander with the job to protect Evan, a job he was fairly used to due to his status back in Hydropolis. He was occupied with blocking a magic attack from one of the smaller monsters to notice Evan had run away from under his wing to tend to Batu who had finally succumb to the Faerie's gas. With his back turned to the monster, Evan was oblivious to it standing right behind him, sucking in the surrounding air to charge for a powerful attack.
"Evan!" Roland yelled from across the battlefield, dropping his block from a particular nasty monster he was defending Tani from, and began running towards the king. Leander knew there wouldn't be enough time for Roland to make it, and without thinking, through himself in front of Evan just in time to be blown away by the attack mid air and land harshly on the ground. Evan's blue eyes widened in shock and filled with tears as he yelled to him.
"Leander!" He shrieked with fear evident in his voice, as behind him Roland delivered the final blow to the Faerie, causing it's now corpse to fall to the ground. Roland's weapon quickly disappeared as he stood over the monster, staring at it's dead body before quickly snapping his gaze to Leander and running over to him. Leander could hear Evans voice in the back as Rolands figure filled his view. "Leander!? R-Roland, is Leander alright?" It was clear from Evan's tone he was extremely panicked. If Leander listened hard enough, it was as if he could hear Evan's tears slip down his cheek and fall onto the ground he kneeled upon.
"He'll be fine," Roland said calmly, crouching over Leander. Roland's facial expression, however, contradicted his tone of having the situation under control. Eyes wide, searching through his bag frantically for something- anything to heal his wounds. That's when Leander understood. "Don't worry about hi.." And before he knew it, the purple mist around him disappeared and was replaced with a empty darkness.
---
It was... cold. So, so cold. And empty.
"Where... Am I?" Leander spoke out to no-one in particular, but anyone who was there to hear him. He reached out into the darkness, only to find nothing there. Looking around him, there truely was nothing there. "Hello?" Leander called out again, spinning around to take in the miles and miles of darkness, as far as the eye could see. "Is anyone there-"
"Leander." A familiar voice interrupted him. He quickly spun around, becoming face to face with his wife.
"Your Majesty," he addressed, quickly nealing before the queen. Her presence brought him a familiar warmness in his heart that contrasted against the cold of this unknown realm.
"Now is not your time, dear Leander." She spoke quietly and kindly, with less authority and harshness than she normally did. She walked closer to his crouched figure, stroking his cheek with her hand and forcing him to look into her eyes. "We need you. King Evan needs you."
"I know, your Majesty." Leander replied, turning away from her gaze. He felt an uneasy ball bubble in his stomach - one that made him want to curl up on himself.
"Don't feel guilty." Queen Nerea read his mind. "You did a noble thing. Sacrificed your life for that of a king. That is why you are such a great advisor. You did your job, and you did it well. Better than anyone else I know."
"I know, your Majesty." Leander repeated, battling with himself as to whether he should continue or not. "But... I fear I have made his Majesty worry for my well being." Leander spoke quietly, voice whisked away into the darkness of the realm. It was almost as if he could see Evan's teary eyes once again escape behind Roland's panicked expression.
"You have." His wife replied, causing a slight gasp to escape his lips and return his gaze to her. Immediately at the sight of her comforting eyes he felt his shoulders loosen and his breath even out. "Which means it's about time you returned, now isn't it?" She asked with a smile playing at her lips as her figure began to fade away into the form of little particles- floating away in every which direction until the warmth of her presence slipped away from Leander's grasp.
"I suppose it is..." He whispered a reply as the last of the floating orbs dissolved in the air in front of him. He was once again left alone in the cold darkness.
---
It wasn't until Leander sat in the dark realm, letting his thoughts get the better of him and ignoring Queen Nerea's comforting words that the guilt inside him bubbled up to a point he felt like he was drowning and suddenly the coldness slipped away. It slipped away, and was replaced with a wave of warmth- no, not warmth. Heat, so much heat Leander could no longer bare the temperature of it and tightly shut his eyes, lashing the limbs of his body in every which direction to force it to leave him. And it did - in the form of a sheet. He forced his eyes open again to be met with the infirmary of Evermore. Suddenly the temperature didn't matter anyone, and guilt was swept away with another tide of relief. Scanning the room, his eyes landed on his glasses sitting upon the beside table next to him. As he reached for them, he felt a strong pain shoot up the front of his chest and across his right bicep. Looking down, he noticed a white bandage wrapped tightly around his torso, and peaking out from it was a pink scar that spread across his collarbone and down his right arm. How long had Leander been unconscious?
"Hold on there mun, coulda swore I heard something jus' now." A familiar voice came from around the corner Leander quicky recognized. Reaching once again for his glasses and suppressing a groan, he continued to listen in as he pressed them up his nose.
"Do you think Leander's finally awake?" A voice that Leander recognized as Roland spoke.
"Maybe. Took him long enough." Bracken said, obviously trying to bring light to the group in case they were to walk in the door to him in the same state they had left him on.
"Bracken's right," Tani agreed. "I don't know how much longer we can handle ourselves without him."
"Well now, we lot are still alive ain't we!?" Batu belowed over his daughter.
"Well that may be true... This team just isn't the same without Leander..." King Evan trailed off.
"Hey, Evan..." Roland spoke, letting his voice get softer just as Queen Nerea had done with Leander what seemed moments ago. "Don't beat yourself up over this. Leander wouldn't blame you, so don't blame yourself."
"I wouldn't be so sure bout that, mun." Lofty replied.
"Whatever do you mean, Lofty?" Evan asked, suppressing a sniffle.
"I'm sure Rolly boy there is right, aye, but why not ask the lad for emself?" Leander suddenly noticed Lofty standing at the bottom of the doorway of the infirmary as he quickly began waddling towards him and jumping onto his bed. Evan's figure appeared in the doorway, eyes widening with shock and what Leander could only recognize as a glint of hope.
"Leander!" Evan exclaimed, running up to him and jumping into his arms, completely ignoring the bandage he was engulfed in. Leander choked down a groan of pain and replaced it with a small smile on his face, meeting Evan's eyes as they lifted from his chest. "You're okay. Gosh, I was so worried!" Leander was too surprised to respond. He was sure the distraught he had caused Evan with his wounds would give him resentment towards Leander, but that wasn't the case.
"Evan!" Roland yelled at the king sternly from beside Leander, signaling him to get off due to his wounds.
"Oh my, I'm sorry!" Evan said, quickly scrambling off the bed and standing awkwardly between Roland and Tani.
"No worries, King Evan. Though, if I may be so bold, I didn't expect the welcome back I'm currently being given."
"Cor!" Lofty called from the end of Leander's bed. "It's a good thing you're back, innit? Course old Evan here's gonna be happy to see ya!"
"Lofty's right," Bracken agreed. "We're really glad you're back. We almost didn't survive out there without you." A question suddenly popped into Leander's mind.
"How long was I out, if you don't mind me asking?"
"Three weeks." Bracken replied. Leander didn't feel like he was real.
'Three weeks!?' He wanted to scream, but forced himself to keep his composure - for young Evan's sake. "I hope I haven't worried you all too much. My worst fear is that I would be a setback in the assault of The Horned One."
"Oh, not at all!" Evan replied. "I'm deeply grateful for what you did for me, Leander. We would be in a much worse situation if you hadn't." He said, and Leander felt a smile of gratitude replace the guilt on his features.
"Thank you for understanding, Your Majesty!"
"Alright now!" Batu interrupted, shoving his way to the front of the group, and linking his arm under Leander's to pull him of from his bed. "Nuff of that sappy stuff! You there Leander have got some lad's around town who wanta bit more o' talkin with ya."

Rules/FAQ
hiya guys!! i think this is pretty self explanatory but i decided to make it just to clear some things up for everyone. so here you go! (lowercase intended)
rules:
the rules of this blog, and my writings.
- first and most importantly - please be nice!! i want this blog to be a place to spread positivity, not hate. this is a place for people to come together and enjoy media from the fandoms they love, not to be mean. hate will not be tolerated at all. if i find out you are in fact spreading hate in any way you will immediately be reported and blocked. that’s just how it is, sorry not sorry.
- second, i do not do nsfw writings. at least not at this point in time. if that ever changes ill be sure to update this but if you’re reading this then obviously that isn’t the case. i will however do lime writings (writings that build up to sex, but doesn’t actually include it). there will be a disclaimer at the top for those kinds of writings. if i do a lime writing of characters that are underage then i will automatically write them above the age of consent.
- third and finally, i do write gore. heavy gore included. what i do not write however are things breaking the law / taking me out of my general comfort zone. this includes pedophilia, incest, bestiality or anything romanticizing mental illness. if you have a specific request you’re not sure of, simply send it in my ask box and ill confirm if i’m up for it or not then edit this list. (i have anonymous asks on this reason, and that i understand sometimes it can be embarrassing to ask specific requests).
if i happen to think of / come across anymore, i will add them here!
FAQ:
frequently asked questions no one really asked oop-
- “what characters / fandoms do you write for?”
i write for pretty much any character, unless there is an adaptation (such as a sequel film/ game add on) that i haven't seen and don't know the characters from. my main fandom is ffxv tho, i love me some chocobros.
films:
star wars
harry potter (excluding fbawtft)

- "are your requests open?"
most of the time, yes, they more than likely will be. i'll have the status of my requests stated in my bio, so check that for clarification. if the status changes i will always make a post about it too.
- "what's your name?"
my name is cordelia! feel free to call me cori if you wish.
- "can I pm you?"
of course!! never hesitate to do so. ill be willing to talk about anything, really. whether you wanna scream about fandoms with me or ask for advice, im down.
- "do you have any other social media?"

- "can i submit something to your blog?"
totally! whether it be writings, art or anything you can think of, go for it! just please clarify if you'd like me to post it and whether or not you'd like recognition or to remain anonymous.
- "do you have a masterlist?"
not yet, but i also haven't written anything. once i publish the first thing i swear i will.
- "why don't you write nsfw?"
it's not that it makes me uncomfortable or anything, it's that i simply just don't know how. ive never done it, but id be willing to try, though. if i one day decide to get up to it ill change the statement in my rules.
- "can i tag you in my works?"
hella yea!! please do. id love to read your creations so go ahead.
if i didn't answer a question you have here , dont hesitate to pm / send an ask to me and ill answer it there + add it to this post.
