My Story

I’ve really only been a true multi-fandom person since March, but oh boy it’s been a hectic past ten months. I’m making this around the time of the ten-month anniversary of when my friend’s and I met. I truly owe a lot to them and without being interested in the same fandom as them, I would not have met them. So since my blog is about fandoms, I wanna dedicate this post to them. Without any further ado, let me show you the true craziness that is VFH!

That First Day

I remember March 8th as somewhat of a normal day, around that time I was going through some minor personal issues so I just really wanted to get home and distract myself with YouTube. I was going through my Twitter timeline like normal and I saw a retweet from someone saying ‘retweet to be in a Voltron group chat’. I very clearly remember scrolling past it, but after a few moments I was thinking about it and I went back. I thought that it would be a good try at making friends in the Voltron fandom, and I had my doubts that this group chat would even last. Oh, boy were those first few days very amazing. We fangirled a lot about our favorite characters, talked about other things, and we matched layouts for the first time- I just found it to be very fun and I smiled for the first time in a while.

First Skype Call

Our first Skype call together was very wild, it was fairly late. We had started to Skype within a week of us meeting. It started off with just us talking, but then we decided to turn facecam on. I was a little nervous, not because I thought anything bad would happen, but because I am a very self-conscious person. Luckily I wasn’t the only one that was self-conscious, we all had our facecam on and just kept complimenting each other. We continued to laugh and talk, we even gained our first inside joke; give Alaina her egg sandwich.

A Normal Day in the VFH household

Don’t think we are calm people because we get so wild, mostly the active members of the group. Kam and I are constantly called the sinners, Kendall constantly says she hates Lils (inside joke don’t worry), Alaina and Zephyr are constantly loving their biases, Karen gets teased for being soft, and Jenna along with Natalie will pop out from time to time to bring some love. Sometimes we will have our very active days and others we won’t be too active

Our Growth

Most of us started out as very small and in only a one or two fandoms. I remember only being a fan of ‘Voltron’ and ‘Haikyuu!!’ when I met VFH. Nowadays, most of us are very multi-fandom and are constantly adding on to our bias lists. I have watched so many different anime series, got into musicals, and recently I have gotten into Kpop. Over summer we would Skype every day and it was always filled with laughter and so much fun. Although, when school started, things quickly got difficult for all of us. Stress settled in all of our lives and we couldn’t find time to Skype, not even on the weekends. Despite all this, we manage to keep our close bond and not let our group die. Recently we’ve been talking daily and hopefully, over winter break we’ll Skype again.

The Impact On Me

I never expected that being in a fandom and liking certain things would end this way. I’ve always felt out of place or that I stuck out like a sore thumb, but after delving into the world of fandoms it has helped me so much. I now feel like a belong and that I can express who I am. I’ve had online friends for a long time actually, a bit over 2 years to be exact, and they truly aren’t just pixels on a screen. I look at online friends like this; you’re expected to make friends out of about 500 hundred people throughout your life and are constantly judging a book by its cover, but when you can choose your close friends from an even larger number of people based on similarities rather than what you see you tend to open your eyes more. VFH has definitely made me a better person and have taught me slowly to be more confident and to love myself more. I would not be who I am without VFH, I would have never been able to come out of my shell as much as I have now. I’ve really seen myself as a wise person that is very soft-hearted, VFH has made me open up my heart more and has taught me to trust again. I owe so much to them, being in a fandom has impacted me a lot. All of us have really grown over the past 10 months together and it’s been one heck of a ride.

how to tell if a person is good or bad based on their voltron icon

lance: probably really funny, but also really sweet. blog is mostly shitposts. cares about lance a lot. generally pretty good.

pidge: its a gamble honestly. is either a genuinely nice person or just plain annoying. or is new to the fandom and hasn’t been exposed to……. Everything….

allura: literally has done nothing wrong in their life ever. probably gay.

hunk: is really bitter about the treatment hunk gets from the fandom and the writers. doesn’t really care for any of the popular ships as much as they care for hunk ships. a friend.

coran: just a big fuckin meme tbh

keith: would straight up take a bullet for keith. either treats him like hes never done Anything Wrong Ever or is extremely critical of his character despite him being their fave (even if its in a joking way). probably neck deep in fandom drama and argues on the Daily.

thace/ulaz/any blade of marmora member: wasn’t impressed by the galra keith reveal because they have been theorizing about it for months. “thace is still alive and heres why-”

Favorite Fandoms

I’ve been waiting to do this for a very long time and now I can! Just for a disclaimer, I am not talking about the fandom community. Now the reason I’m not gonna talk about the fandom community for each of these because most of the time they're not really shown to be very good. I hope you enjoy my fangirling because I sure do!

Bungou Stray Dogs

By now it’s evident that I love this show. I am such a fan of supernatural anime that can blend comedy with action or make it so serious but also very light-hearted. I have learned that one of my favorite genres is shounen/seinen, Bungou Stray Dogs falls into this category and it was one of my first animes that fell into this category. I really love how the characters are based on real-life authors/poets and how their abilities are centered around a title of their book. I really love the storyline and the various character dynamics. One of my favorites is the relationship between Dazai and Atsushi, just the reason why Dazai took in Atsushi and how much he cares for him is the softest thing. All in all, this is a very good anime if you like action, mystery, and supernatural!

Favorite Character(s): Dazai Osamu and Oda Sakunosuke

Favorite Ship: Soukoku (Dazai x Chuuya)

My Rating: 8.5/10

Voltron

This show is one that really inspired me in a way that’s semi-complicated. The writing is very well done and it clearly shows because of how well received it is. Now I must point out that some people call Voltron an anime when it really isn’t, it’s an American animation like Adventure Time and Steven Universe. I hate to be overly biased but I must say, the writing for this show is so well done and the plot has turns that are sometimes unpredictable. I can talk on and on about how good the writing is and why I love it but I’ll put it simply; this show has so many theories and the show writers give us so much information about the timeline and the series is barely halfway done! I just praise the writers I commend them for their hard work on this show.

Favorite Character(s): Matt Holt, Pidge Gunderson/Katie Holt, Keith Kogane.

Favorite: Ship(s): Klance (Keith x Lance), Shatt (Shiro x Matt)

My Rating: 9/10

Haikyuu!!

This anime gives me so many fond memories and was one of my first animes. I started watching this anime a little after I started playing volleyball and it somewhat helped me understand the game better and why playing as a team is so important. I personally loved how the main team of the show really had so many trial and errors and you can see their growth throughout the story. What really made this show hit my heart is how the writers made you feel the emotions for all the teams and how you would catch yourself cheering for both sides and end up very conflicted of who you wanted to win. All in all this show was one that I’m glad was one of my first introductions to anime and how intense sports anime can get.

Favorite Character(s): Akaashi Keiji, Oikawa Tooru, Nishinoya Yuu.

Favorite Ship(s): Bokuaka (Bokuto x Akaashi), Kagehina (Kageyama x Hinata), Kuroken (Kuroo x Kenma)

My Rating: 8.5/10

BTS

So I just got into the group a few weeks ago and I love their music so much! I’ve never really got fully into an artist or band but recently my cup of tea has been kpop. Their music ranges, it can go from being very lit to soft tunes. I love how their songs have a lot of meaning and how much they love the ARMY because really our support clearly means so much to them. I somewhat knew about them back in 2015 but I was kinda too scared to try it out, but now I’m a huge stan and I do wish I listened to them sooner. I’m also such a big softie for just all of them; J-hope is just such an angel, Suga deserves so much love, Jin’s dad jokes make me laugh so hard, RM is so dorky sometimes, Jimin just needs to be protected, V is so cute and deserves hugs, and Jungkook is such an adorable baby! They deserve all the credit and recognition they get, I am just so proud that they’ve made it so far and I’m sure they’ll keep going farther.

Favorite(s): All of them

Favorite Ship(s): I’ll ship anything, to be honest

Would I Recommend?: Yes!

Bones

I grew up watching this show and I always loved watching it with my parents. This show started my obsession with crime documentaries and basically my love for solving mysteries. I always loved trying to figure out who the murder was before they would and it was always fun for me if I ever guessed right. I always loved how each episode was a new case and there was another underlying plot next to it. The dynamic set of characters and how they worked together gave me so much enjoyment. This show had its long run and when I saw that it was ending I was sad of course but I just was glad that I saw it grow and grew up with it.

Favorite Character: Angela Montenegro

Favorite Couple: Angela and Jack

Anime Recommendations

So as you can tell I’m a huge nerd when it comes to my multiple fandoms. I always get asked what I think about different shows or just interests, some things I personally don’t like that multiple people may love. But it is always personal opinion. I am very excited to try and recommend some anime that I personally love and that is sure to help draw you in if you’re new to it!

Kimi No Na Wa

‘Kimi No Na Wa’ translates to ‘Your Name’ and is a movie that was made last year on August 26, 2016. This movie is a Romance, Drama, School, and Supernatural with a rating of PG-13.

This movie centers around a girl from the countryside, Mitsuha Miyamizu, and a boy from the bustling city of Tokyo, Taki Tachibana. Each desire to have the other one's life, and one day their wish is granted. Overnight they end up switching places and so for one day at a time they switch places. Over the course of multiple switches, they begin to set rules and know one another better. The two try to find out what is causing this phenomenon and try to search for each other. Things begin to crumble and now they both must work together to fix things, bounding them together by fate and circumstances they must work through together.

This movie was one that I greatly love and that many others did as well. This movie got so much attention when it came out and even featured in American movie theaters for a period of time. It is ranked very high on MyAnimeList.com, being ranked #2 and also #50 in popularity. I personally am not a fan of the genres Romance or School because I personally don’t like how it often is overplayed with the same Supernatural themes. This movie though doesn’t follow that typical storyline and goes through one of its own which I found refreshing. I would very much recommend this to new anime fans, old ones, and to ones that maybe wouldn’t watch these genres.

Boku No Hero Academia

‘Boku No Hero Academia’ translates to ‘My Hero Academia’ and has two seasons that have already aired with a season three coming up in 2018. This show is based off of a manga like a lot of other shows are. The genres consist of Action, Comedy, School, Shounen, and Super Power with a rating of PG-13.

The main character of this show is Izuku Midoriya. Over eighty percent of humanity had superpowers that are called quirks, but Izuku was part of that twenty percent that was quirkless. Growing up, Izuku desired to be a hero despite not having a quirk. His persistence though landed him the chance of a lifetime, he met his lifelong hero All Might who has been known for his powerful quirk. All Might’s quirk is more unique than any other, it has the ability to be inherited. All Might then put Izuku vigorous training so that he could give the young boy his quirk. Izuku, with his quirk, enrolls into UA High to become the hero he wants to be along with his new found classmates.

Where to start with this anime! This anime truly deserves the amount of credit it gets and maybe even more. The number of unique characters, amazing storylines, and very touching backstories of some of the characters. I love a series that can put you in multiple characters shoes and give a feel of how each character is. This along with the amount of great humor and the building storyline truly creates a great anime. This show I would definitely recommend to new fans because it is a great show and anyone would definitely love it.

Noragami

‘Noragami’ is a shorter version of its name ‘Noragami: Stray God’, the show has two seasons and is also based off of a manga that is still ongoing. The show’s genres consist of Action, Adventure, Shounen, and Supernatural with a rating of PG-13.

Noragami has a set of three main characters but cannonly the main character is Hiyori Iki. Hiyori crosses path with a god that goes by the Yato and after meeting him she becomes a half human half phantom. This leads her to seek help from Yato and paying him to help her change back to being fully human again. Soon enough Hiyori becomes close with Yato and Yukine, Yukine being Yato’s Shinki. Hiyori soon gets herself into a lot of Yato’s antics and difficult situations

This anime was one of my firsts and honestly, I’m glad it was. Noragami is a very fun filled and definitely has a lot of action involved. I am always one to be drawn to lore and supernatural aspects and Noragami is a series that does this very well. This show goes into a lot of dark themes and shows some aspects of Japanese culture that makes the storyline unique and interesting. I’d highly recommend this to anyone, especially newcomers to anime.

So yeah those are just some anime I feel that are good for newcomers or just to chill and have fun with! Of course, there are a lot more I would wanna recommend but I chose three to start with since those ones are some really good ones. Please tell me if you do watch them or have because I just really love fangirling over anime!

Being Multifandom

Ahh what a wonderful thing, constantly fangirling and having multiple things to scream about. Yep sounds normal to me! Being multifandom has its perks and sometimes cons, speaking from experience the one way I can describe it is a roller coaster of feels that hits you like a truck. Well if you’re as fragile as a glass vase and catch feels very easily like me, then being multifandom is full of feels! I must say that not everyone will relate to what I say, but some bits will somewhat be relatable.

Cons

Finding an Account Handle

I personally didn’t have this problem but I constantly see my friends struggling to stick with an account handle for more than a month or longer. Most of the time when they get into a new fandom or just bounce between ones they’re already in, they will often change it so correlate with their bias in the fandom. For a while, I ended up switching my handle a couple of times because I was so torn between two of my biases. Sometimes it’s really funny to watch my friends struggle to choose a new handle when they’ve made a list of about ten possibilities.

Keeping Track of Things

Oh how guilty I am of this, I always manage to lose track of how many things I’m a fan of, to be honest. My friend will ask me what shows I’ve watched and then I’ll just totally run a blank and think ‘what have I watched again?’, it gets super annoying when I try to compromise my lists of things I like. Another thing that I gotta keep track is my bias list, and oh how long that list is. I just always have moments where my brain draws blanks and doesn’t wanna help me make friends and make a conversation less awkward.

Merch

It is so hard being broke and seeing all this merch that you just wanna buy and hold in your hands but you can’t! Yeah, I have online shopping problems, but I’m not the only one guilty of this. Whenever I do manage to get money so I can buy merch, I always get torn. There are so many things that look so nice and that I want, but my options are so varied that it’s hard to choose one or two things to have. On the other side of this problem, there will sometimes be moments where I like something that isn’t very popular and it has little to no merch, the amount of times I’ve had this problem is insane.

Pros

Making Friends

One thing I find easier is that making friends and finding mutuals to talk is somewhat easier. It helps being multifandom a bit because you can have more things to talk about, and you can also try introducing the other person to something. Personally, I’ve found that being multifandom is a lot more fun and kinda exciting! Recently in the past week, I finally decided to get into the fandom that I stayed somewhat in the dark from for a couple years. When I finally got my feet wet I realized that my friends also liked the same thing and now we’ve been fangirling about it since yesterday.

Experiencing New Things

This one seems cheesy but let me explain, okay yeah it’s cheesy. It is true kind of, being multifandom you can get into things you didn’t even think you’d like! Like me, I became a BTS stan and now I’m trying to broaden my listening pool for Kpop. It’s all about just finding what you like and experiencing different things. It’s why whenever people recommend things it is always good to try it out and see if you like it, the worst that can happen is that you don’t like it.

Something to Help Destress

This might really only relate to some people but personally, it’s a big thing. I get stressed easily being in high school and having a lot of homework, so as my way of destressing I always find it in the things I love and have a great interest in. Normally while I’m doing homework I’ll either watch reruns of my favorite show, listen to music I love, or watch videos from my favorite YouTubers. It’s all about trying to make things that would normally be boring a little fun! Whatever works to help destress is really what counts.

My advice: being multifandom has its pros and cons, but the pros really outweigh the cons. If you’re not multifandom, it’s not too late to try now. Speaking from experience it is a lot more fun and will have a great pay off!

Normal Person: Nevermind I just answered my own question.

So yeah that’s just about it for this really funny thing I thought of, but I do wanna use this for a small PSA. To those that are anime, manga, or Japanese drama lovers, please don’t instigate if someone who doesn’t like these things makes fun of it. They just do this to get under your skin and find a reason to judge you or try and make fun of you. I have dealt with this kind of these in the past and still do. It really bothers me a lot of the time, yes, but it is best to not blow up. I suggest to either ignore it or snap back with a snarky remark about their shows, the second one might be a bad idea though. If this only occurs once or twice, then don’t worry about it. If it does continue continuously and by the same person, just try to talk to them seriously and if that doesn’t work then do talk to someone they can help resolve the issue. This problem is very minor, but personally, it really made me become so closed off and be scared to express myself. You should be free to express who you are and what you like! So please take this small PSA, also I had so much fun making this and I hope this helps in some way, shape, or form!

Fun Fandom Things

Every fandom has fun things going on, whether that be fun tags, voting polls, or the well-known bias game. I’ve of course had my fair share of bias games, ok one, and I can tell you it’s such a fun experience. I love sharing some of my fondest memories with my friends and those moments are always fun to relive!

The Bias Game

This game is fairly known and is played very often in group chats and between friends. It is a fun game that is somewhat difficult to play, especially if you’re playing it with close friends that attempt to try and make you “Break”. The rules for the game are really simple;

Pick one to five biases, ones that you talk about a lot and that people know are your bias.

You can not say the name of your bias, talk about, like pictures, refer to, have your bias as an icon, and have a picture of you bias set as a wallpaper.

If you lose, you must take a penalty given by the winners or winner.

Depending on which way you play, go the set amount of time that is agreed or as long as you can.

There are two ways to play this: regular and extreme. With the regular version, you must last a set amount of time following the second rule. With the regular version, you can not talk about, refer to, have your bias set as an icon or wallpaper, and say your bias’ name. The extreme version is a lot more, scary?! This is basically a case of the last man standing, you must go as long as you can. You must follow the same rules as the regular version along with a slightly minor one. If your friend tries to “break” you by sending you a message referring to your bias, you can not respond to it. Now I shall refer to what I mean by “break”, well in simple terms as a fangirl it is when you break down and scream your biases name. Well, that’s how I remember it.

When I played it, it was amazing and such a funny experience. I played with my two favorite biases at the time, Akaashi and Bokuto. My new group of friends at the time invited me to play, it was me and five other friends in the group. Some of my other friends in the group chat didn’t play because they wanted to watch us suffer. At the time I didn’t understand, but that was before the game started. We played the regular version that was to last a week, I’ve never wanted to yell a name louder than I did in that week. The first person to break was in ten minutes, I’ve never laughed harder in my life. She accidentally sent a photo, meaning to “break” one of the others, but lost instead because the photo had her bias in it. The second person to break was 2 hours after we started. We were on a Skype call and it was four or five of us but only three were present. Me and two other friends that were playing were talking and when our friend was talking she mentioned her bias on accident and didn’t realize she said it ‘til me and my other friend pointed it out. Throughout that whole week, no other person broke and the last four of us won the game. The bias game was an emotional rollercoaster and something fun to play, I highly recommend to anyone that dares to take the challenge.

Tags, Q&A’s, and Challenges

So these go around all over the place- you get tagged and have to do the thing you’re tagged in. These can range from a fun story using ats, putting a photo of yourself next to a bias, and many other things. One of my favorites tags is where you put a picture of you and your bias side by side, me being me I put a picture of a trash can because I don’t post selfies.

Another great thing that goes around are these bingo cards made by the account bingo.grams on Instagram. They make these cards where you mark with a certain character who is your favorite. Each one is themed to a different show and has a set of characters; whether it be the main, a group, or a team if it’s a sports anime.

Some other things that other people do are questions that go along the lines of “one like for a question” or “one retweet for a question”. I do these a lot of the time and the questions range from very generic, specific, or funny.

Voting Polls

I personally have never participated in these but I see them sometimes and find them to be very interesting. These range between fandoms and can be centered on a show, band, or a group of people. The polls can be “Biggest ___ Stan” or “Biggest ___ Shipper”, it all just depends on who makes the polls. Most of the time these polls are made on a separate account for people to vote and nominate people on.

There are a lot more probably but I’m just a small fangirl in multiple fandoms as a Dazai stan. Man, that’s sad to think of oh gosh. Well, anyways I hope you take some of these and try them out, trust me their tons of fun!

Problems in Fandoms

So if you are in a fandom you know there will be a lot of complications and different things that happen, sometimes they aren’t so nice. Often, these problems will result in giving a fandom a bad reputation, cause drama, or destroys the fandom in general.

Ship Shaming

If you’re apart of the Voltron fandom you know what I mean. I know this happens in other fandoms but personally, I see it a lot in the Voltron fandom. First handed, I’ve never really been ship shamed. I have though seen friends and mutuals get ship shamed and it really makes me upset to see such things.

Personally, I’m a multi-shipper because there are so many ships it’s insane for me to pick one or two ships to devote myself to. I do admit that the biggest ship, Klance, in the Voltron fandom is also mine, but I know friends that don’t ship it as much. I don’t bash on her nor do I ask her why I let her be and ship her ships that she likes. She does the same, I’m not really a Shallura shipper and most of my friends are. We do let each be and they let me ship my ships and I let them ship theirs.

It really breaks my heart to see people ship shaming and I’m sorry if this comes off as me targeting the Voltron fandom but I just see it so much. I’m in very few fandoms and I really hope this issue is not too bad in other fandoms. Some things to really avoid this issue are simple:

Please don’t try and fight back someone that’s degrading your ship. It’s what they want and the best thing to do is just to ignore the person.

Be happy with your ships! There are others that do share the same ships so don’t be afraid to express how much you love the ship, you’ll probably make some new friends.

Report the person if things are getting out of hand.

Don’t be the person to attack someone and their ship, because at the end of the day it’s just characters of a show and you shouldn’t be attacking someone for it.

Just Drama

Overall drama can consist of friends talking about one another, fights between group chats, accounts being fake, and many other things. Fandoms are sometimes given a bad reputation due to the amount of drama that happens. Some occasions fandoms will fall apart and it won’t end so pretty.

About two years ago I was in a fandom, kinda didn’t feel like one, to be honest, that was known to be very toxic. Me being a fresh new face, I wanted to get into the fandom and make friends. I did make really close friends and I love them to death because of how much they mean to me, but I did learn that the reputation of that fandom was not a good one. There was a lot of fights between people I knew, rumors, and at one point a drama account was made that was attacking someone. It was just all a huge mess.

The drama will always happen and it takes place everywhere, sometimes it will be small and fixable but at others times drama just can’t be reversed. Some really nasty things have happened and it really makes me think what is wrong in some people’s lives that makes them act so terribly. Again, here’s a list of things to do if the drama is getting out of hand:

Ignore rumors, don’t feed into it. It’ll just make the person that started them feel like they’ve won when really they’re just being jealous.

If a person is accusing you of things that you definitely didn’t do, then just ignore them.

Be the bigger person, if you have talked to someone and the person finds out, don’t lie. Just tell the person and apologize because you don’t wanna pour gasoline on a fire. (That sounded better in my head)

Overall, just report the person. If someone is constantly is attacking you or your friends, be brave and report the person.

Taking Things Too Far

This would kinda tie in with overall drama but I feel this is a bit more serious. A lot f the time people find it funny or necessary to make take things too out of hand. Often at times, accounts will be made targeting a certain person, people will take things the wrong way, or people will push things over the edge.

From what I’ve seen, some people will often get mad at someone and take things to the next level. In the past, I saw a mutual getting attacked by a drama account spreading false rumors. The situation was awful and made me look at the fandom differently. In that same fandom, a group of people wanted to help bring everyone together so they thought making a fandom awards would help. Even I thought it would help, but gradually some people felt that the awards weren't such a good thing and would call it rigged.

Things like these really can be taken in multiple different ways, and I wish people weren’t like this.

My Personal Opinion

I get very bummed to see these things happen in a place where it should be fun. Now not all of these things happen in every fandom, these are just some things I’ve seen. I do appreciate the fact that despite some of these things happening, fandoms do manage to be a fun place to make friends, share ideas, and fangirl to your heart's content. I would just really like to tell all of you to please be careful what you say and try to not bring people down despite slight differences or opinions. Make friends and fangirl with them, show the good, not the bad.

Underappreciated Shows

Most of these are shows I’ve watched that really deserve more recognition so this will be slightly opinionated. Without further ado, let’s get into the small rants! I will attempt to keep this spoiler free!

Hamatora The Animation

‘Hamatora’ first debuted back in January of 2014 and its second season wrapped up in September of the same year. In just 24 episodes the watchers were given so much content along with 2 story arcs. This show is comedy, mystery, and superpower based anime. This show is centered around the detective agency that consists of our main characters; Nice, Murasaki, Hajime, Ratio, Birthday, Honey, Three, Koneko, and Master. Most of the characters throughout this story have Minimums. What are minimums? Well if you’re familiar with ‘My Hero Academia’ or ‘Bungou Stray Dogs’ they are similar to the Quirks and Abilities. If you aren’t familiar with those two then one you should watch them and two, Minimums are powers that a person has when they discover what activates them. In Nice’s case, he must put his headphones on his ear to activate the Sound Manipulation Minimum which he possesses.

The main character throughout the story is Nice, yes that’s his name (don’t judge him he’s my favorite). In the first season Nice and Murasaki are the main characters, but in the following season, Nice and Hajime are the main characters. This switch helps the dynamic of the story arc because in season one we get more of how the relationship and teamwork are between Nice and Murasaki since these two guys do different jobs together. Towards the end of season one, we get a taste for what the next season, which follows to center around how Hajime and Nice met and what Hajime’s Minimum is.

This series has a very complex set of characters with odd names, like c’mon who would name their child Birthday! I love this series because I’m a big fan of mystery and powers and when a show blends comedy and mystery well, my utmost respect goes to the writer. The two-story arcs really compliment each other, things from season one are explained in season two that you just sit at your screen like ‘Oh my gosh what the heck?!’ and a series that can put the audience in shock really shows the power of how well it’s done. I watched this with my friend Lils and both of us really enjoyed how well the series was done, along with the drastic animation change the series is really well done.

Akagami No Shirayukihime

‘Akagami No Shirayukihime’ aired in July of 2015 and the second season wrapped up in March of 2016. This series is a drama, romance, fantasy, and shoujo with 24 episodes. The show centers around a group of five main characters, each very different in personality and social standing. Shirayuki, Zen, Obi, Kiki, and Mitsuhide are the main characters of the series and the show follows them around the kingdom Clarines. The shows name translates to ‘Snow White with the Red Hair’, referring to Shirayuki. Shirayuki’s name translates to ‘Snow White’ because of how the shows start and it's small amount of fantasy aspects.

Shirayuki originally wasn’t born in Clarines, she used to live Tanbarun as an herbalist. She then had to flee because of the Prince of Tanbarun, Raj, wanted to make her his mistress. When Shirayuki fled she ran into Zen and his two guards Kiki and Mitsuhide, Zen saved her from Raj and revealed that he was the second prince of Clarines. Later on, we meet Obi in some not so friendly circumstances. Shirayuki decided to stay in Clarines and became a court herbalist for the castle. Obi then joins Zen’s group as a right hand in a sense.

This show never had a stage of hype and goes unrecognized by a lot of people. I’m not too much of a fan of romance animes but this anime truly grabbed my attention and gave me some love for the romance genre. The series goes through multiple small arcs but mainly centers around the relationship between Shirayuki and Zen. The characters all go through a great deal of character development and it shows throughout the story. This show really shows the trial and error that Shirayuki goes through while living in Clarines. She proves her worth even though people put her down because of her social status not being very high. Zen really cares for Shirayuki and continuously protects her from so many people that put her down or try to hurt her.

K

‘K’ debuted in October 2012 and wrapped up its second season in December 2015 with 26 episodes. This series follows Yashiro, Kurou, and Neko along with two kings Suoh and Munakata. The genres of this anime are action, superpower, and supernatural. The story centers around seven kings; Silver, Gold, Red, Blue, Green, Gray, and Colorless. These kings possess supernatural powers that correlate with the color that their clan is. Every king, for the most part, has clansmen that they give a bit of power too. Each clan has a king with a sword that contains the energy of the king. If this energy is depleted or the word is broken by another king, the king of that clan will die.

We’re quickly introduced to our one of our main characters, Yashiro. We then come to find out that he’s being hunted down by Suoh the red king and Munakata the blue king. These two kings accuse Yashiro of the murder of Tatara Totsuka, that Yashiro claims he couldn’t have committed. Kurou at first tries to kill Yashiro but soon begins to let him prove his innocence. These two and Yashiro’s cat Neko, continuously try to find out what happened that night that Tatara was murdered. This though isn’t the only thing that’s unraveling, while Suoh continues his search for Yashiro things start to become cloudy in his memories and he must find out what is the cause of this.

This anime is ranked fairly high but it truly doesn’t get enough credit for the effort that’s put into this series. The series has a very dynamic storyline with so much lore put into it that makes the series so original and one that probably took months or years to perfect. I’m a huge fan of series with complicated storylines and this one really takes the cake. This series is one of my favorites and I wish more people would watch it and give it a bit more recognition.

This season brought so many surprises and a lot of things for fans to take in. Just in 6 episodes, we were given so much content but some were not expected or wanted. This season has gotten mixed reactions from the fandom. From new theories, debunked/proven theories, new characters, and new content, this season has given the fans so much to look forward to for the next season.

A Summary of the Episodes

Theories

The Theory of Narti

- This Theory was proven to be true in the episode ‘Black Site’. A little after season 3 dropped we were given the teaser trailer for season 4 and this screenshot made a lot of fans ask the question of who Lotor was attacking

From what we see in the screenshot, Lotor, Zethrid, Ezor, and Acxa are present but we don’t see Narti. One other thing about Narti is her cat, in the last episode of season 3, it was revealed that the cat originally belonged to Honerva/Haggar. So what are the chances that Narti is linked to Haggar? Very high seeing how things turned out the way they did.

Theory of Sam Holt/Matt’s Bounty

- I kept thinking about this and its possibility is very slim but personally this theory to me is one to really think about as a possibility. Am I the only one that notices Matt acts weird or off when he mentions his dad? Also, why is there a bounty on Matt and who wants to “take him alive”? This theory goes that Matt and his dad were saved by the same rebellion group either together or at separate times, most likely Matt first. At some point, Matt and Sam could’ve gotten themselves into trouble with a group of aliens- possibly getting ahold of some transmissions of the aliens that they didn’t want anyone else to hear. Now, this next part is very unlikely but bear with me, what if Matt’s dad got himself kidnapped by the aliens and in a sense sacrificed himself in some way to save Matt. This could explain why Matt acts kinda off when he ever mentions Sam to Pidge. I honestly feel this theory has a very slim chance of being possible, but this could raise some questions as to where Sam Holt is and why Matt has a bounty against him.

Synopsis: Atsushi Nakajima is an 18-year-old orphan and in recent months his orphanage has been under attack. A mystical tiger has damaged the orphanage and has caused a lot of debt for them. In an effort to save the debt, they kick out Atsushi for being under the suspicion of causing the attacks. Two weeks later, the homeless and starving boy is almost dead on a riverbank. He then ends up saving a very quirky man by the name of Osamu Dazai from the river. The suicidal maniac/ability wielding detective is investigating the tiger that has been terrorizing the city. After some help from Doppo Kunikida, the case is solved and due to the nature of the end result, Atsushi is in a tight spot. He now finds himself with the Armed Detective Agency - solving cases that the police cannot handle alongside his variety of new found friends.

The Characters

Atsushi Nakajima: Atsushi is 18 years old with gray uneven hair, pale skin and purple eyes with yellow along the bottom of his pupil ( a result of segmental heterochromia). He is very naive, simple, and has a low self-esteem due to his past. Atsushi is exaggerating things a lot and has little self-worth. Over time, however, he does overcome his lack of confidence and has a strong sense of morality after joining ADA.

Osamu Dazai: Dazai is 22 years old with dark brown mildly wavy hair, dark brown eyes, and a slim build. He is a very mysterious person and in his past was known to be very sinister. These days his more light-hearted and comedic, but his suicidal tendencies haven’t changed. He still has some underlying traces of his dark parts, but he does show compassion for his teammates.

Doppo Kunikida: Kunikida is 22 years old with neat dirty blonde hair, sharp yellow eyes along with glasses, and is fairly tall. He is a very serious, professional, and thorough person. Kunikida is sometimes too practical and naive, but he maintains to stay very loyal and trustworthy. Upfront he is a very calm and collected but is prone to over exaggerated outbursts that are mainly due to Dazai.

Ranpo Edogawa: Ranpo is 26 years old with messy black hair, bold green eyes, and fair complexion. He is very prideful about his “ability” and often brags about his status. Ranpo is shown to be very childish and lazy, but he can also be very serious and calm when he really needs to be.

Junichirou Tanizaki: Tanizaki is 18 years old with downward swooped orange hair, hazel eyes, and a thin build. He is noticeably one of the “normal” ones of the agency for his less eccentric personality. Tanizaki is noted to be humble, very friendly, and caring of his fellow agency members.

Akiko Yosano: Yosano is 25 years old with straight black hair in a bob, dark grey eyes/pink (manga/anime), and a fair complexion. She is often shown as calm and composed, keeping herself at her utmost graceful. Yosano does have aggressive tendencies if someone angers her.

Kenji Miyazawa: Kenji is 14 years old with short blonde hair, golden eyes, and has a short stature. He is a simple young boy and always seen with a smile on his face. Kenji is very carefree and only sees good in people, him being oblivious to a lot of possible dangers.

Kyouka Izumi: Kyouka is 14 years old with dark blue hair in twin ponytails, now clear blue eyes, and a very small frame. She was more of a doll when she was with the Port Mafia, lacking emotion. After being saved by Atsushi, Kyouka gained a sense of reality. She has little self-worth and feels she should die for her crimes, she shows to be strong-willed and persistent to prove Akutagawa wrong.

Ryunosuke Akutagawa: Akutagawa is 20 years old with short black hair having two tufts in the front with white tips, grayish eyes, and sickly appearance. He has a black and white view on things and often doesn’t obey orders from his superiors. Akutagawa often shows signs of anger and jealousy towards Atsushi, this being because Dazai sees more potential in him. Throughout his life, Akutagawa sought Dazai’s approval.

Chuuya Nakahara: Chuuya is 22 years old with orange hair that frames his face, blue eyes, and a short figure. He is very short tempered and often hot-headed, but can contain his composure in certain situations. Chuuya is very loyal to the Port Mafia - especially Mori. Despite being a very tough person, Chuuya cares deeply for his subordinates and often shows it by taking them to lunch.

Yukichi Fukuzawa: Fukuzawa is 45 years old with long silver hair, metallic blue eyes, and a tall stature. He is very serious and always seen with a stern expression. Under his calm demeanor, Fukuzawa cares for his subordinates a lot and it’s implied that he likes cute things.

Ougai Mori: Mori is in his 30s, he has medium black hair that’s swept back, red eyes, and a slender frame. He often shows other that he’s a clumsy and ordinary man, but it’s later revealed that isn’t the case. Mori is very strategic but also very merciless and will use fear to strike at his enemies.

Sakunosuke Oda: Oda was 23 years old with reddish-brown hair, red/blue eyes (manga/anime), and milky skin. He was noted for being a gentle person and kind even though he worked in the Mafia. Oda was known for not being one to kill but if he was mad he showed amazing fighting skills. He also is very observant and came the closest to understanding Dazai.

Ango Sakaguchi: Ango is 26 years old with short dark hair, light eyes with circular framed glasses, and is fairly tall. He is often shown to be very calm and very disciplined. Ango values genuine friends and strongly believes that Dazai needs someone that can keep him grounded.

Synopsis: The series follows Hinata Shouyou, a now young first year that aspires to be as great as the “Little Giant”. Hinata goes to his first, and sadly last, volleyball match of middle school. He is defeated by Kageyama Tobio who is more known as the “King of the Court”. After the match, Hinata vows to surpass Kageyama in high school. Now attending Karasuno High School, Hinata and Kageyama meet again but instead of rivals, they must become teammates. Hinata struggles to find himself a place on the team due to his height but shows his willpower with his jump. Kageyama also finds it hard for his fast setting skills to match a spiker that can keep up with him. Together, the two new first years are a dynamic duo that takes the court of Karasuno by storm as they achieve to bring their school back from the ashes.

The Characters

Shouyou Hinata: First-year middle blocker, age 16 at 164.2 cm tall. Hinata is often called out for his height, having an array of nicknames like “Shrimp” and “Mini Spider-Man”. His personality is very bubbly and energetic, but he is known to be serious and kinda scary when he needs to be. Hinata is well known for his jumping skills and the fact that he’s pretty clumsy for a volleyball player.

Tobio Kageyama: First-year setter, age 16 at 181.9 cm tall. Kageyama is often seen with a sharp glare and intimidating aura, he’s often described as being scary. He’s known for being short-tempered and having a scary scowl, despite all this, Kageyama has been known to get excited when he pulls off a good move with Hinata.

Kei Tsukishima: First-year middle blocker, age 16 at 190.1 cm tall. Tsuki is known for being a smart alec and coming off as blunt. He’s the tallest out of the first years and the team as a whole. Tsuki used to not really put too much effort into volleyball cause of what happened with his older brother, but after the Tokyo training camp he puts more value in volleyball and doesn’t waste his talent anymore.

Tadashi Yamaguchi: First-year middle blocker/pinch server, age 16 at 180.0 cm tall. Yamaguchi is a very shy individual but will tend to join in on Tsuki’s teasing or snickering when mocking people. Yamaguchi is shown to be a very hard worker, seeing how he put so much time into learning how to do a float serve. After Karasuno lost the match to Seijoh, he’s become a stronger player with the encouragement of his teammates and being mentored by Makoto Shimada.

Yuu Nishinoya: Second-year libero, age 17 at 160.5 cm tall. Noya is the shortest of the team but he makes up for it with his fast reflexes as Karasuno’s Guardian Deity. Noya is very boisterous, a hopeless flirt, and often temperamental, he isn’t very careful when he’s mad and will sometimes be violent when angry but he is careful of the feelings of those around him. When Noya is playing he’s in his element and will sometimes be shown as serious when he plays.

Ryunosuke Tanaka: Second-year wing spiker, age 16 at 178.2 cm tall. Tanaka is a very loud, headstrong, and angered quite easily. He’s known for getting fired up easily on the court when he scores or pulls off a cool move, Tanaka is also not afraid to pick fights. This all being said, Tanaka is very protective of his teammates, mostly the underclassmen. Along with Noya, he also loves the ladies a lot and will often give death glares if he catches someone staring at Kiyoko Shimizu, the team’s manager.

Chikara Ennoshita: Second-year wing spiker, age 17 at 176.1 cm tall. Ennoshita is often seen with a warm smile on his face and very timid attitude but will be bold when around his fellow classmates. For the longest time, Ennoshita didn’t play as a regular but stepped up to play when Dachi was injured. He is speculated to be the next team captain because of his ability to understand his teammates, being able to keep Noya and Tanaka under control, and has a presence that stabilizes the underclassmen.

Asahi Azumane: Third-year wing spiker/ace, age 18 at 186.4 cm tall. Asahi very much takes the title of a gentle giant, despite his height he is very shy and caring person. After becoming very depressed from defeat, he was very weak-willed and scared to let his team down again. Although, after experiencing a practice match with the new first years, his will to play volleyball again came crashing back and now he is proudly the team’s ace.

Koushi Sugawara: Third-year setter, age 18 at 174.6 cm tall. Suga acts like the team’s mom in a sense because of his gentle and caring personality. Despite having such a calm and collected demeanor, he will not hesitate to yell in a childlike way or be bold. Even though Suga isn’t a starting player anymore he continues to go to practices and helps the team, because he doesn’t want any of them to give up - especially himself.

Daichi Sawamura: Third-year wing spiker/captain, age 18 at 176.7 cm tall. Like Suga, Daichi is a parent figure to the team, being the dad figure. He is very caring of his team and will often put them first. Daichi is very patient with other but if you do manage to make him mad it isn’t pretty. He is known for being very responsible and yet he does have times where he is childish.

The Teams

Karasuno High: The school is located in the Miyagi Prefecture. Team colors are white, black, and orange. The coach is Keishin Ukai, the captain is Daichi Sawamura, and vice-captain is Koushi Sugawara.

Metropolitan Nekoma High: The school is located in the Tokyo. Team colors are black and red. The coach is Yasufumi Nekomata, the captain is Tetsuro Kuroo, and vice-captain is Nobuyuki Kai.

Aoba Johsai High: The school is located in the Miyagi Prefecture. Team colors are white and turquoise. The coach is Nobuteru Irihata, the captain is Tooru Oikawa, and vice-captain is Hajime Iwaizumi.

Date Tech High: The school is located in the Miyagi Prefecture. Team colors are white and teal. The coach is Takurou Oiwake, the captain is Kenji Futakuchi, and there is no vice-captain at the moment for the team.

Voltron Theories!

I told myself I wouldn’t be Voltron trash this week, but I love a number of conspiracy theories this fandom has! I’m not gonna put all of them cause that would take 50 deca-phoebs, I will though put some of my favorites!

Kuron Theory

Season 3 left us with a lot of questions, especially with this clearly fake Shiro. In episode 5 of season 3, we see Shiro again, or is it? In a glimpse, we see ‘Shiro’ looking at another version of himself on a table.

Then about 5 seconds later ‘Shiro’ gets a flashback and hears; “Kuron stage one is successful.” As ‘Shiro’ recollects this he gets attack then manages to escape the Galra ship entirely. As he’s escaping the shot goes to a Galra general and he says; “Notify command headquarters. Operation Kuron stage 3 is underway.” This also begs the question of what was stage 2? As noted by foxyjoy-art, the three stages go most likely as follows: Stage one - they cut off Shiro’s arm to extract his memories using his new prosthetic arm and to get his DNA for clones. Stage two - create a clone, the Shiro we saw in season three, that is just like the real Shiro with a prosthetic arm to upload memories into the clone’s brain. Stage three - The galra now know how to clone Shiro so they create a second one, the one on the table seen earlier, to see if they can use it as a weapon. The stages are slightly confusing but we also need to keep in mind that we can only connect so many dots to this Kuron operation.

Another bit that supports this is when ‘Shiro’ meets up with the paladins again. When ‘Shiro’ tries to pilot the Black lion it doesn’t light up and just stays dim like it did when the other paladins tried to pilot it.

How does this prove anything? Well, when Lance tried to pilot Blue earlier in the season it activated its particle barrier, basically rejecting him.

The Black Lion didn’t do this because it identifies this ‘Shiro’ as an entirely new person, proving that this isn’t physically the Shiro we know. Yet the Black Lion did bring Shiro back when he was on the brink of death back when he was trying to find the paladins. Thing is the lions react to the emotional bond between them and their paladins. Shiro’s memories were enough to use the bond as a form of message for the Black Lion to save him.

This theory really just breaks my heart wondering if we’ll ever see the true Shiro again and if the paladins will go back to their original lions because if not then the fandom will be at Dreamworks’ doorstep with pitchforks and torches.

Sleeper Cell Agent Shiro Theory

Hearing Katie Cullen mention this dark theory just made me break a little inside at how possible it is to happen.

In short, Shiro is a sleeper cell agent - meaning a spy who infiltrates an organization or something of the sorts and stays dormant until they’re activated to attack or do something. He will be activated at some point by the Galra and the paladins will attempt to save him but soon after they do save Shiro he will make some sort of sacrifice and die.

I don’t really believe this one because I think the writers will at some point give Shiro a break from all the emotional and physical beatings he’s received.

Smaller Theories

- This one I believe in the least but I still wanna put it on here cause it’s pretty dark. So the paladins have been blowing up Galra ships here and there as they complete certain missions. What is to say that out of all those ships that they have been blowing up, Pidge’s dad was in one of them.

- So we all know now that Haggar has some hazy memories of her past, mostly her being married to Voltron. The two of them, of course, have memories after they woke up from being dead. So why doesn’t she remember Lotor being her son? This could suggest that Zarkon had Lotor with another Altean because clearly, Lotor is half Altean. This could also suggest that some Alteans might’ve survived and Zarkon had Lotor with someone else. Another thing that could support this theory is how Lotor treats Haggar because he doesn’t treat her like his mother. Clearly, Lotor calls Zarkon his father but who could be Lotor’s mom?

- This isn’t really a theory but like this breaks my heart. So Dreamworks recently released Keith’s vlog and he mentioned how he’s naturally untrusting. Well, when Lance and Keith had the bonding moment in season 1 he was very hurt when Lance didn’t remember it. Keith was actually happy and felt appreciated when he somewhat bonded with Lance. SO WHEN LANCE DIDN’T REMEMBER, KEITH WAS SAD AND HURT!!

- Just like the last one, this isn’t too much a theory mostly a fact. So the big purple glob monster (I’m so tired my brain has stopped working) from the last episode of season 3, is another entity from an alternate reality. This glob is using Zarkon and Haggar to do its bidding in their reality as we saw how much it changed their mindsets.

The show follows five human beings Shiro, Keith, Lance, Hunk, and Pidge after they’ve found an alien spacecraft in the form of a blue lion. They end up traveling across the universe and meet Princess Allura and Coran, after waking them from a 10,000 year long sleep. Allura comes to tell the ragtag bunch from Earth that the lion they found is part of an even bigger spacecraft, Voltron. Voltron is comprised of five lions; the blue, red, yellow, green, and black lion. Before Allura and Coran went into their deep sleep, the universe was defended by Voltron until the pilot of the black lion turned evil and wanted to rule the whole universe. However, Allura’s father, King Alfor, sent the lions away from Zarkon’s grasp so they would not be used for evil. Now the lions have been found again and these five normal people are now the defender’s of the universe as the pilots of Voltron.

The Characters

Shiro: Pilot of the black lion is the leader Takashi Shirogane, known as Shiro. Shiro has black hair with a gray tuft and dark gray eyes. Shiro is the oldest, 25 years old, and acts like a father figure to the other paladins. He manages to keep a very rock solid personality but also knows when to be loose and laugh with the others. Although when he gets very angry he tends to burst out very angrily, as seen when Slav pushes him. Even though Shiro is very strong personality wise, his time with the Galra has shown how much damage he’s had both mentally and physically.

Keith: Keith is known as the pilot of the red lion. He’s 18 years old and has black hair with blue-gray eyes. He’s the most temperamental and hot headed of the paladins. The only person Keith really trusts is Shiro, them knowing each other for a long time. Keith’s personality makes it hard for him to back down from a fight and unpredictable nature makes him known for outbursts of anger. His relationships with the other paladins vary but one of the most memorable moments is how Pidge sums him up, Emo.

Pidge: The pilot of the green lion is Pidge, later revealed as Katie Holt and a girl. She’s the shortest and has short light brown hair with brown eyes and wears circle framed glasses. Pidge used to only focus on her technology but as she spent more and more time with the other paladins she learned what it is like to be apart of a team. Pidge is very intelligent and the youngest of all the paladins, being only 15. Pidge has become more excitable and playful in her personality, and also tends to be curious with the new technology she discovers in space.

Lance: Lance is the 17 year old pilot of the blue lion. Lance has brown hair and dark blue eyes. Lance is known as the flirt of the group since he flirts with every girl he sees, despite if they’re alien or not. He also comes off as cocky and the goofball out of the paladin crew. However, Lance has been seen to have a sensitive side that he hides under his egotistic ways. He tends to feel like the seventh wheel of the group and questions whether he is truly part of the team. Despite his insecurities, Lance’s personality overall is bubbly and free-spirited.

Hunk: Hunk is the pilot of the yellow lion and 17 years old. Hunk has dark brown hair and brown eyes. Hunk is the team teddy bear, being very warm hearted and kindest of the paladins. He’s also the team’s local chef and foody, being in the kitchen most of the time when he isn’t training or fighting the galra. Even though he is a gentle giant, if any of his friends are in danger he doesn’t hesitate to fight back with full force. Hunk can also be overly cautious, pointing out when a mission looks to be dangerous. All in all Hunk is the friendliest of the team, but won’t back down if you try and hurt those around him.

Allura: Princess Allura is an Altean and the Pilot of the Castleship that houses the lions. Allura has white hair and blue eyes with purple pupils, she also resembles small pink markings on her cheekbones as altean markings. Allura can be very serious when it comes to training the paladins but at other times she can be very bubbly and down to earth.

Coran: Coran, just like Allura, is Altean and he’s the royal advisor that handles most of the technology on the ship. Coran in a nutshell is very goofy and caring, he always makes sure that the others are taken care of. Coran is sometimes very clumsy but he is serious if anything bad happens to the paladins or Allura.

Zarkon: Zarkon is a Galra and rules the Galra Empire. Like a Galra, he is all purple and has a violet colored eyes. He is known for being very vile and cruel being that rules with an iron fist. Zarkon has no mercy if any of his generals seem ‘weak’ for the consequences he gives are unthinkable.

Haggar: Haggar is Zarkon’s right hand and the leader of the Galra Druids. Haggar has long white hair and yellow eyes, along with purple skin and slight altean markings, since she is revealed to be Altean. She is very wicked and ruthless and just like Zarkon she gives no mercy.

Popular Ships

1) Klance (Keith x Lance) - When Lance said “We make a good team” that ship was born and was bass boosted when Keith started flirting with him the next episode.

3) Shatt (Shiro x Matt) - They went to the Garrison together and Shiro risked his life to save Matt, THEY DESERVE EACH OTHER!!! (if you can’t tell my otp is Shatt)

5) Hance (Hunk x Lance) - These two are literally best friends and have known each other for a long time, it’s too perfect not to be shipped.

About Me!

Hello my name’s Jess but I mostly go by Cobalt!! I’m writing this blog for a school assignment on something I like, which is fangirling over 2D characters!! Anyways let me break down what ya need to know;

Me as a person-

If you couldn’t tell my #1 bias is Dazai from BSD! I’m also a writer, slight artist, and binge watcher of many things. I also tend to go by the @ dazaiscoat on my other social media! I tend to come off as intimidating to most people but please don’t be afraid, I’m very open to talk about different animes and shows.

Very excited for my first official post next week which is the Voltron fandom, oof I’m excited!!
