I think a lot of people virtue signal empathy, especially when discussing politics, and it drives me insane. There are times when I'm like, okay there's no way you genuinely care about this on an emotional level, like maybe I'm half sociopath but it doesn't logically make sense to me.
I'm not incapable of empathy (I am however incapable of guilt) and I feel deeply for others sometimes but I don't really see the point of empathy like what does it even accomplish? It's a feeling, not an action, and my taking the time to understand where someone is coming from doesn't automatically do anything to alleviate their pain. Empathy isn't equivalent to changed behavior.
And that's all completely aside from people who get really emotionally invested in political issues that simply don't impact them or anyone they know like It comes to a point where I can't help but be like, are you being empathetic or are you hyperfixating on things that don't impact you in order to avoid facing the things that do?
This isn't meant to be any giant important statement, I'm just thinking out loud.
This season of Bridgerton discourse is going to be a nightmare like every time someone gets bizarre about Nicola Coughlan’s body, an angel loses its wings. Just please be normal and don’t write 13 tweets about how she’s actually very thin, it’s weird.
Side note, nobody can do math, can they? It's actually horrifying how mathematically illiterate adults are that basic addition is beyond them, and I don't know how to fix it.
