I have a question about AI fanfiction. I know it's not cool to have AI make an entire story and then pass it off as your own, but could it help with a scene, especially if we hash it out?

I had a Transformers fanfic I created in an hour, took me a week to write. I had a Womb/Clone fanfic I wrote in two days, then let it sit for a month before I figured out how to end it. Both are short oneshots that are quick reads.

I recently read one once that was two characters battling. The battle scenes were great. But they got aspects of two characters wrong, and a third, they got completely wrong.

There are currently ~2300 works in AO3 tagged with "Created Using Generative AI"

I'll be upfront with my opinion, which mirrors my opinion in regards to my field: using AI will only hasten your own obsolescence. The point of fanfiction is not to crank out fics, but rather to enjoy the hobby and communities of writing and fandom.

Back when I lived in my childhood home, I used to have a recurring dream that I was in this bad place. The people who resided in the bad place (I don't know if it was their home or work setting, but blah) were in another room, and I needed to escape. So I'm trying to escape without being caught. Finally, I escape, and I'm on my front porch. I realize I'm home and turn around to go inside and see it's still the bad place. But I feel like my home is still there, I just can't access it. So I'm standing there, not sure what to do.

You ever just wake up from an incredibly graphic and realistic nightmare that was a pure psychological horror based on your own personal phobias and trauma and just roll over like “aw shit I got too hot last night I guess.” And then make toast like you didn’t just experience the nine circles of hell before 9 am

For anyone who hasn't seen them before, Hidden Search Operators are handy tricks you can use when you're either searching or filtering AO3.

summary: string is a generic way of explaining that you can search AO3 for a specific word that appears in a summary. You can do this from the search bar in the header, from the Any Field box at the top of the Advanced Search form, or from the Search Within Results box at the bottom of the filter menu.

Examples:

summary: Bruce

summary: "Bruce Banner"

summary: Bruce OR summary: Banner OR summary: Hulk

You need to put quotation marks around your search term if it is more than one word. The quotes make sure that the site searches for those two words together.

The other two operators listed work best in the Search Within Results box.

expected_number_of_chapters: 1 will return results where every fic has only 1 chapter currently posted.

You can use expected_number_of_chapters: -1 if you want results where every fic has more than 1 chapter currently posted.

otp:true will return results where there is only 1 relationship tag on the fic. If you want results where there are 2+ relationship tags (and no fics with only 1 relationship tag) then you can use otp:false
