Fanfiction Authors: HEADS UP
(Non-authors, please RB to signal boost to your author friends!)
An astute reader informed me this morning that one of my fics (Children of the Future Age) had been pirated and was being sold as a novel on Amazon:
Tumblr media
(And they weren't even creative with their cover design. If you're going to pirate something that I spent a full year of my life writing, at least give me a pretty screenshot to brag about later. Seriously.)
I promptly filed a DMCA complaint to have it removed, but I checked out the company that put it up -- Plush Books -- and it looks like A LOT of their books are pirated fic. They are by no means the only ones doing this, either -- the fact that """publishers""" can download stories from AO3 in ebook format and then reupload them to Amazon in just a few clicks makes fic piracy a common problem. There are a whole host of reasons why letting this continue is bad -- including actual legal risk to fanfiction archives -- but basically:
IF YOU ARE A FANFIC AUTHOR WITH LONG AND/OR POPULAR WORKS, PLEASE CHECK AMAZON TO SEE IF YOUR STORIES HAVE BEEN PIRATED.
You can search for your fics by title, or by text from the description (which is often just copied wholesale from AO3 as well). If you find that someone has stolen your work and is selling it as their own, you can lodge a DMCA complaint (Amazon.com/USA site; other countries have different systems). If you haven't done this before, it's easy! Here's a tutorial:
HOW TO FILE A COPYRIGHT COMPLAINT FOR STOLEN WORK ON AMAZON.COM:
First, go to this form. You'll need to be signed into your Amazon account.
Select the radio buttons/dropdown options (shown below) to indicate that you are the legal Rights Owner, you have a copyright concern, and it is about a pirated product.
Enter the name of your story in the Name of Brand field.
In the Link to the Copyrighted Work box, enter a link to the story on AO3 or whatever site your work is posted on.
Tumblr media
In the Additional Information box, explain that you are the author of the work and it is being sold without your permission. That's all you really need. If you want, you can include additional information that might be helpful in establishing the validity of your claim, but you don't have to go into great detail. You can simply write something like this:
I am the author of this work, which is being sold by [publisher] without my permission. I originally published this story in [date/year] on [name of site], and have provided a link to the original above. On request, I can provide documentation proving that I am the owner of the account that originally posted this story.
Tumblr media
In the ASIN/ISBN-10 field, copy and paste the ID number from the pirated copy's URL. You'll find this ten-digit number in the Amazon URL after the word "product," as in the screenshot below. (If the URL extends beyond this number, you can ignore everything from the question mark on.) Once this number has been added, Amazon will pull the product information automatically and add it to the complaint form, so you can check the listing title and make sure it's correct.
Tumblr media
Finally, add your contact information to the relevant fields, check the "I have read and accept the statements" box, and then click Submit. You should receive an email confirmation that Amazon has received the form.
Please share this information with your writer friends, keep an eye out for/report pirated works, and help us keep fanfiction free and legally protected!
NOTE: All of the above also applies to Amazon products featuring stolen artwork, etc., so fan artists should check too!

Almost forgot to send this on here, I had energy that specifically wanted to be spent on drawing a self portrait/sona sorta deal. Not the kind of thing I've historically been egar to draw, but I am super happy with this. Kinda funky exploring identity/personal image via my own art, I'm happy I did this. For all intents and purposes this is a me and it's lit. B)

Drew more Fluttershy, this time anthro because I thought of this really cool outfit/hairstyle that I thought would look really cool. Very happy with this, it has made the good brain juices.

I've been feeling kinda down lately so I drew a Fluttershy to cheer myself up and it kinda worked. Pretty happy with the result, I hope it makes other people a bit happier too.

Just a lil something I made for what might become a personal project. I knew I was gonna make it 2d, but I felt like doing an experiment using blender to try and pull off some 2d puppeting to make the hypothetical project way easier on myself in the long run.
This only really demonstrates the face "rig" and I have no idea where to even begin with the body, but I'm still super proud of the outcome. Still a bit rough around the edges in some spots but this is as finished as it needs to be for now.
Additionally, the backside of this project is truly a horrendous mess of drivers hooks and constraints, if anyone reading this happens to have any good resources on puppeting meshes in blender, please send them my way.

Forgot to post this one on tumblr, this one is a doodle I did to blow off some steam while working on a drawing for a friend. I started doodling and then they told me to put a squidward nose on it and now here we are.
This whole doodle was part of the bigger experimental picture of using aseprites pixel brush with pressure gradient dither for shading, I am happy with the results.

I was screwing around with making a color palette and used one of my friends characters to have a play around with it. So here's the doodles I made of them!

I've been riding the inspiration high I've gotten from my hollow knight post, made an assorted bunch of sprites with a bonus 1 tone for anti aliasing. One of them is meant to be a gaster blaster of sorts, a custom vessel, a cat, then something that I have no idea what it's really supposed to be but I thought it looked nice in this composition. I like the end result alot.

More random lil doodles I did while working on bigger things!
I drew the lil guy on the left and then drew him at a higher res a couple times, it was a fun exercise. I really like how I made him a cyclops simply because I couldn't fit 2 eyes in there and then as it got bigger it went from a cyclops to being this freaky void head wizard thing. The colors were self imposed just based on the colors I was using in the doc I was in at the time. This was a fun play around, I like how it ended up.

Had a bit of a revelation recently, tldr I'm gonna take myself less seriously and post way more random doodles and WIPs. This one inparticular was just a palette cleanser while I was doing something bigger. Dont know if I'm ready to post the bigger thing yet or not. Anyways yeah enjoy my knight on a bench in the undertale boss sprite style, I hope you have a good day. <3

I've been in something of a creative rut but I felt like making something for me friend, this is that. Went out of me comfort zone a tad too, this was made entirely in blender which took a bunch of skills that I'm not accustomed too. I am very happy with this, added bonus is that they seem to be too!

Holy fuck this just kept getting better as I read more!
The nuclear family is probably the greatest enabler of child abuse, ever.
Putting two people in complete control of another person (who is particularly vulnerable and has few legal rights) and then having no oversight for the whole arrangement is the absolute worst idea.
Families are garbage.

Cheers!, But pokemon? Did I design an existing pokemon by accident or something?
Say hello to Terrance. I have a big soft spot for cute food it seems, this time round we got a turnip. Textures all still procedural, more pretty basic squash n stretch going on but I did have an experiment with something I wasn’t even sure I could do, I animated the leaves using shapekeyed curves, I think the result is really nice and bouncy lookin. Pretty proud of this if for the leaves alone.

I think I have a soft spot for cute fruit. Made this little guy over a day or so, all textures procedural, used it as an excuse to practice some primitive animation doin some squash n stretch, gave the wee boi some motion blur and called it a day. His name is Thomas in case anyone’s wondering. Also introducing my watermark! My long ass name don’t lend itself to much but I slapped this together over a couple days and feel pretty happy with the result. Seeing as my art style is so all over the place I wanted at least one thing in my art to be consistent.
