Don’t object, you can certainly contradict everything, but in the end, nothing would be contradicted. - Franz Kafka (The Castle) Experience by @paradoxial_me 🌻 The Castle पहली कहानी Kafka की जिसमे उसका पात्र confident है, अपनी बात सही ढंग से कह पाता है। Situation में succumb ना होकर उसे कंट्रोल करता है। एक सहजता है उसमें और हंसता है। Finally, एक खुश पात्र। अभी तक के लिए !!! कैसा लगता है जब हमें छोड़कर बाकी सब को सब पता होता है। सारा system सबकी समझ में आता है – बस हमें नहीं। हमारे पूछने पर सब हंसते है – समझाते हैं और जब हम उसके खिलाफ कुछ कहने को होते हैं तो कहा जाता है कि हम उनके अहसानों का मजाक उड़ा रहे हैं। सवाल पूछना जब कुछ समझ में ना आए – मना नहीं है – पर जवाब में सवाल क्यूं पूछा का ताना मिलेगा और जवाब नहीं। एक अधिकारी है जो हमारी हर हरकत देखता है, सुनता है, पर हमसे परे रहता है। हर कोई उस अधिकारी से मिल चुका है। हमें छोड़कर। हम पूछते हैं – उस तक जाना है – जवाब आता है वो बुलाएगा तब जा पाओगे। हम सड़क पर इंतज़ार करते हैं कि वो आएगा और हम मिल लेंगे। पर वो आता ही नहीं। उसके भेजे लोग आते हैं वो हमें दूर ले जाते हैं और इतने में अधिकारी चला जाता है। फिर पता चलता है। Castle के सारे अधिकारी सारे लोगों से secretary के जरिए ही बात करते हैं। हर अधिकारी का अपना secretary जो अधिकारी की बात लोग तक पहुंचाएगा और लोगों की बात अधिकारी तक। अधिकारी को दरवाजे के छेद से देखने पर वो हमारी ओर देखता नजर आता है। पर लोग कहते हैं वो आंखें खोल के सोता है। हमारी नासमझी पर सब अफसोस जाहिर करते हैं। ऐसा लगता है एक बहुत बड़ा पिंजरा है – जिसमें घूमने की आज़ादी है पर आप किसी भी चीज को छू नहीं सकते। छूने की कोशिश करते ही सब रोकने आ जाते हैं। और पकड़े पकड़े कहते हैं कि आप आज़ाद हो। आपके पस्त होते ही फिर छोड़ दिया जाता है – पिंजरे में घूमने की आज़ादी है पर उसकी सलाखें आप छू नहीं सकते। K. नाम का आदमी एक गाँव में आता है जो Castle के अधीन है। वहाँ उसे land surveyor की नौकरी मिली है। आने पर उसे Castle में आने की इजाजत नहीं है। बाकी गाँव मे ही रहे। उसे एक पत्र मिलता है जिसमें लिखा होता है कि गाँव का एक counselor उसे उसका काम बताएगा। वहाँ उससे कहा जाता है कि system में error है। उसकी जरूरत नहीं है – पर कार्यवाही इतनी mix हो चुकी है कि अभी फैसला नहीं हो सकता। वो चाहे तो land surveyor हो सकता है पर वो है नहीं। और ये बात सबको पता है कि वो surveyor नहीं है। पर तब भी हर इंसान उसे surveyor कहता है। https://www.instagram.com/p/CEqic9WFNo7/?igshid=1lfrg1pbo6l4x

Of course, they made rapid progress, not by running but by exerting themselves to the utmost, and in reality, they may have been only crawling along. - Franz Kafka (Amerika) Amerika एक ऐसे लड़के की कहानी है जो अपना बचपना नहीं छोड़ रहा। खूब सपने देखता है, सब पर विश्वास करता है, सबके सामने बार बार अपने आप को मासूम साबित करने की कोशिश करता है और अंत में सबके सामने झुक जाता है। इन सब में भी अपने आस पास की चीज़ों को इतने बारीक नजर से देखकर वो सपने बुनता है – आज़ादी के। पर ठीक कदम लेने से पहले कुछ ना कुछ ऐसा होता है कि वो खुद को पहले से भी ज्यादा घुटन वाली कैद में पाता है। हर बार कैद की परिधि छोटी होती जाती है। कहानी में सब बड़ा नाटकीय है – ऐसा लगता है नाटकीयता के जरिए कुछ कहा जा रहा है। कुछ है जिसे छुआ जा सकता है पर वो छूट जाता है हाथ से, हर बार। Description इतना अद्भुत है कि सब सामने होता है पर लगता है सब अभिनय कर रहे हैं।। दृश्य में हो कुछ और रहा है- दिखता कुछ और है – कहा कुछ और जाता है। और ये अद्भुत है। Kafka के पात्र जितने नाटकीय हैं, उनसे ज्यादा नाटकीय है उन पात्रों के अंदर के ��िचार। उससे ज्यादा dramatic है सारा description, जो आस पास घट रहा है। Kafka के description इतने detail में हैं कि वो अपने आप में एक character बन जाते हैं। और फिर शुरू होती है नाटकीयता। ये कहानी नहीं – लग रहा है ये नाटक चल रहा है पर पात्रों को बिल्कुल नहीं पता है – पर वो अपनी theatricality loose नहीं कर सकते। कुछ तो ऐसा है जिससे हम सब relate कर पाएंगे। तभी शायद पढ़ने के 3 दिन बाद भी कहानी मन से नहीं निकल रही। Amerika का मुख्य पात्र है Karl, जो Germany का migrant है और अमेरिका आया है। जर्मनी में कुछ हुआ जिसपे वो चाहता था तो रोक सकता था लेकिन अपनी कम knowledge के कारण सारा कुछ उसके हाथ से छूट गया। यहां भी यही होता है। एक तो आते ही Statue of Liberty को देखकर उसके description में वो statue के हाथ में टॉर्च की जगह तलवार बताता है। और बहुत अंत में इसका significance समझ में आएगा – कि उसके अपने हिसाब से कितना सही description था। बहुत subtle humour, बहुत बारीक description, और कुछ ऐसी situations जो metaphorically हम सब अपने रोजमर्रा के जीवन में महसूस करते हैं – ये Amerika के हर chapter में है। Kafka का एक एक शब्द इस तरीके से असर करेगा कि पढ़ने के बाद बहुत देर तक लगता रहेगा – हम Karl हैं। तो अगर कुछ अच्छा और छाप छोड़ने वाला पढ़ना है। Kafka की लिखी Amerika पढ़ें। #ekchaupal #Kafka #bookstagram https://www.instagram.com/p/CElUxv1FCl7/?igshid=19lg9tdfy491g

Apocalypse Now 1979 की फिल्म है जिसे डायरेक्ट किया है The Godfather के डायरेक्टर Francis Ford Coppola ने। फिल्म Marlon Brando, Martin Sheen, Robert Duvall की acting और अपनी कहानी, cinematography, sound, art direction, editing के लिए Oscars में nominate हुई थी। Experience written by @deepak_yadav_dk 🌻🌻 मैंअपने आप को बहुत बड़ा सिनेमा प्रेमी समझता था कि मैंने दुनिया जहाँ की लगभग सारी best movies देख रखी हैं, उनको समझा है या समझने की कोशिश की है। लेकिन ये gem कहीं छुप गया था, जो मेरी नजरों के सामने ही नहीं आ रहा था। मैंने था इस फिल्म के बारे में, one of the greatest movies है, ये वो, सारी बातें सुन चुका था। लगता था कि हाँ, होगी कोई मूवी जिसमें larger than life war scenes होंगे, army होगी, एक mission hoga, जैसे कि बाकी सारी war films में होता है। जब फिल्म देखने जा रहा था तब हो रही थीं आँखें बंद। रात के 11:30 बज रहे थे। लेकिन जैसे ही फिल्म के 10 मिनट पूरे हुए मेरी आँखें पूरी खुल गई और फिर खुली ही रह गईं। तो मैं ऐसी बहकी-बहकी बातें क्यूँ कर रहा हूँ? तो बताता हूँ – Poetic War Movie Apocalypse Now based है Vietnam War के era में। Psychologically bahut strong होने के बाद भी ये war movie ना होकर एक कहानी बन जाति है जो basic human emotions को दिखाती है। जैसे Martin Sheen का character है वो war से इतना obsessed है कि फिल्म के opening scene में अकेला, किसी assignment का इंतज़ार कर रहा है कि कहीं तो posting हो जाए। वहीं एक contradictory scene है जब Martin Sheen का character Marlon Brando के character को मारने जाता है तो एक तरफ दो tribal पक्षों में लड़ाई चल रही और दूसरी तरफ कुछ सैनिक बस ये चिल्ला रहे हैं कि – I want to go home. Marlon Brando का character ये believe करता है कि वो सब कुछ control कर सकता है अगर Martin Sheen जैसे लोग उसे मिल जाएँ पर वो मरना भी चाहता है। Nihilism की philosophy follow करता है। यही underlying human emotions और contradictory philosophy इस फिल्म को एक poetic war movie बना देते हैं। Robert Duvall Lieutenant Colonel William Bill Kilgore के character में Robert Duvall फिल्म में breathlessness लेकर आते हैं। एक ऐसा कर्नल जो अपने काम से बहुत प्यार करते हैं, अपने group से बहुत प्यार करते हैं, और war से प्यार करते हैं साथ में surfing से बहुत प्यार करते हैं। Continued in comments- https://www.instagram.com/p/CEWtsD6lw6M/?igshid=h9ly5mr1mmst

Written by @iamvveksharma 🌻🌻 Ozymandias (ओज़ीमण्डिअस) समय के पार लिखी गयी एक कविता है। जिसे अंग्रेज़ी कवि Percy Byssce Shelley ने लिखा है।⠀ यह कविता मिस्र के एक राजा जिसका नाम कविता में Ozymandias बताया गया है; के घमण्ड और साम्राज के नष्ट होने के बारे में है। जिसे समय ने धूल-धूसरित कर दिया है।⠀ ⠀ कविता समय के यात्री और लेखक से बातचीत के बीच शुरू होती है। लेखक बताता है कि वह एक यात्री से मिला जी किसी ‘एंटीक लैंड’ से है। ‘एंटीक लैंड’ से यहाँ तात्पर्य एक ऐसी जगह से है जो बहुत पुरानी और बहुत विख्यात है। ⠀ ⠀ लेखक को यात्री एक मिस्र के राजा ओज़ीमण्डिअस (वैसे ये शेली द्वारा मिस्र के फैरो रैमसेस-2 को कविता में दिया गया ग्रीक नाम है) के खंडित मूर्ति के बारे में बताता है। जिसका धड़ और सिर वीरान रेगिस्तान में यूँ ही तितर-बितर पड़ा हुआ है। जिसे पूछने-जांचने वाला कोई भी नहीं। ⠀ ⠀ राजा की खंडित मूर्ति के नीचे लिखा है कि वो राजाओं का राजा ओज़ीमण्डिअस है और वो सभी को अपने साम्राज्य को देखने और उसकी विशालता को नापने की बात करता है और उसका बखान करता है। उसकी बातों में एक तरह का अभिमान है जो उसे एक घमंडी और निर्दयी राजा बनाती है।⠀ ⠀ अपनी यह भीमकाय मूर्ति भी उसनें अपने वर्चस्व की बखानता के लिए बनवाया होता है। जो अब समय ने नष्ट कर दिया है। जिसे अब कोई नहीं पूछता और जो अब उस वीरान रेगिस्तान में अकेले पड़े-पड़े धूल फाँक रहे हैं।⠀ इस कविता से हम बहुत कुछ सीख सकते हैं। कविता हमें बताती है कि किस प्रकार बिना सोचे समझे, सिर्फ़ अपनी बखानता और वर्चस्व को अस्थापित करने के लिए किया गया अप्रत्याशित कार्य सार्थक नहीं होता और समय के साथ मृत्यु को प्राप्त हो जाता है। जिसकी भयानक गंध इतिहास से लेकर भविष्य तक ऐसी फैलाती है की लोग उससे दूर भागते फिरते हैं।⠀ ⠀ राजनीतिक परिपेक्ष से भी इस कविता का बहुत महत्व है। यह कविता ग़लत राजनीतिक मुद्दों और उनके निर्णयों की तरफ़ एक इशारा है। कविता के अंत में राजा से ज़्यादा उस कारीगर को इज्ज़त दी गयी है जिसने उस मूर्ति का निर्माण किया था न कि उस राजा का जिसने निर्माण करवाया था। भारत का इतिहास और वर्तमान भी मूर्तियों और इमारतों इत्यादि वगैरह बनाने का रहा है। जिसमें अलग अलग राजाओं द्वारा अलग अलग प्रकार के निर्माणों के बारे में हम सभी जानते हैं। इतिहास में यह काम दूसरे राजाओं को यह दिखाने के किये किया गया था की वो राजा कितना शक्तिशाली और समृद्ध है। चाहे वह मुग़ल रहे हों, गुप्ता या अंग्रेज़। Continued in comments- https://www.instagram.com/p/CERP1uqF1vz/?igshid=s3deb6kb7o2g

"When we are attached to a writer, it is not just because he ushered us into a world that continues to haunt us, but because he has in some measure made us who we are." -Orhan Pamuk (Other Colours) Orhan Pamuk उन कुछ लेखकों में से हैं – जिनके शब्द पढ़ कर लगा कि वो कानों के भीतर बुदबुदा रहे हैं। ये – कानों के भीतर बुदबुदाने- वाली बात मानव कौल ने कही थी। और यही बात Orhan Pamuk भी अपने पसंदीदा लेखकों के लिए कहते हैं। ये किताब Orhan Pamuk के Essays की किताब है जिसके अंत में उनकी एक कहानी और Nobel Prize मिलने के समय का लेक्चर दिया गया है। तो, Pamuk के शब्द इतने निजी लगते हैं – जैसे खूब मौन में कोई दोस्त है जो आकर अपनी कहानी, अपने डर, अपने सपने, अपने दुख, अपनी पसंद- नापसंद की बातें, किताब, फिल्म, राजनीति – सब कुछ एक बच्चे की उत्सुकता से बता रहा हो। वो भी बुदबुदाकर – जैसे कि सिर्फ मेरे लिए। कोई और उस बात को नहीं सुन सकता। और ये सब सिर्फ निबंध में। कहानी में तो पता ही नहीं क्या जादू करते होंगे!! Pamuk खुद को western या फिर European mindset और उनकी Turkish identity, purity, European culture की तरफ बढ़ता हुआ और साथ में उसे criticize करता हुआ उनका देश – इन सब बातों की परिधि पर घूमते दिखते हैं। और तब महसूस होता है – क्या हम भी उसी परिधि पर नहीं हैं? क्या हम Western culture की तरफ उसी उम्मीद से नहीं देखते? और यही बात Pamuk कहते हैं कि वो Criticize नहीं कर रहे – पर शायद यही वजह है कि उनके शब्द पढ़ते हुए अपनापन लगा। क्यूंकि उन्होंने वो महसूस कराया जो मैं कर रहा हूँ पर उसे देख नहीं रहा। और उन्होंने कहा भी है कि साहित्य का काम है आपकी कहानी को दूसरे की कहानी के जरिए कहना और अगर कोई पढ़ने वाला उसमें अपने जीवन के अर्थ ढूँढ लेता है तो साहित्य और लेखक सफल हो जाता है। जब वो अपने डर और पछतावे की बात करते हैं तो लगता है कि कोई इतना कैसे खुद को खोलकर रख सकता है – परत दर परत – इतनी सरलता से – इतनी clarity और मासूमियत से। और शायद इस मासूमियत का credit इस किताब के translator Maureen Freely को भी देना चाहिए – क्यूंकि पहली बात – Pamuk अपनी मूल भाषा Turkish में ही लिखते हैं। और यहाँ पर बात आती है – western culture की तरफ उम्मीद से देखने के साथ अपनी individuality बनाए रखने की। हम कर रहे हैं क्या ये – मैं कर पा रहा हूँ क्या ये? ये सवाल बार बार मन में कौंधता है। (और इसमें थोड़ा सा criticism – मेरे आस पास के लोग foreign किताबों के बारे में हिन्दी में लिखते नजर नहीं आते!!) Considered one of the greatest books of all time and listed in numerous top books list – The Color Purple was also adapted as a film of 1985 by the same name (nominated for 11 Academy Awards). Review by @rudimentary_view 🌻🌻🌻 The Colour Purple is one of the most popular classics. Every time I went through a ” must-read list” of books I found it staring at me. Finally picked it up and it honestly hits you like a punch in the gut from the very first page. An epistolary novel with an exchange of letters between Celie and God and her sister Nettie. A tale of the struggle of the African American woman in the southern states of the USA this novel leaves you shocked in some pages. The language imitates how the characters would actually talk to it makes for a very interesting read as you go through the book. "People think pleasing God is all God cares about. But any fool living in the world can see it always trying to please us back." Alice Walker (The Color Purple) With the main focus on Celie’s life, the story also takes us through the lives of some very beautiful characters, and honestly, I would say that this book has some of the strongest female characters ever. Each story is a different journey defined with each character going through struggles and pains you wish didn’t exist but it does. It’s not a breezy read for sure. You take your time with the book but you go on in the hope for the reunion of some of these characters, details of which I will skip in case you haven’t read the book. The most powerful emotion that stayed with me after this book is how it took a few of these characters years to realize that their happiness matters and how there was more to their lives than just existence. How Celie realizes that she can make a life of her own and it’s normal for her to ask for happiness is a journey that will leave you thinking.
