I know fandom or specific things do better on tumblr but that will not stop me from posting original art (in this case, FISH)

Just had my first Redbubble sale and I did not expect to be this happy about it. I’m nowhere near the minimum withdrawal threshold so it’s not like I can even get the money, and if I make sales at the same rate as before then I won’t be able to for about twenty years, but holy shit. Someone liked something of mine enough that they spent actual money on it. There’s a couple of stickers floating around out there with fish which I drew on them. Actual physical things which might be put anywhere, loved and appreciated. My little tiger barbs out in the world…. Feels like a sign that the first sales were of my favourite fish. I don’t have the files any more so I can’t share the full quality but I’m so proud of them making their ways in the world when I’d almost forgotten I even had a Redbubble

I’m a little behind with adding rimworld drawings so here you go - Mantrap, Swarmling and Ripper Hound from the Alpha Animals mod, and Scire from Bastyon/Steve’s Animals

I think that in some ways, starting the comic when I did was a curse - I started it during the worst year of my life, and it was something for me to throw myself into to distract from everything which was going wrong. It offered me a lot of comfort around that time (until I lost the ability to draw it and everything got worse, at least).
But now that things are good for me again, and I can get back to drawing it, I'm finding I can't immerse myself in it like I did before.

Whenever I see one of those posts about love being in the little things I’m reminded of my dad pulling a piece of schoolwork out of the burn pile and keeping it without telling me, just because it had a little drawing on the back of it

Me previously (a fool): once you have the sketch down it’s just putting colours on a page, the difficult part is done and the fun begins
Me now, attempting a painting even slightly outside of my comfort zone: all along the clown was I

The way I see it it’s about 30/70, weighted towards story. But some people are always going to prioritise artstyle, and even with the previous ratio, if the artsyle is a zero for you then it’s going to majorly impact your enjoyment of the story.
People expect certain art styles from webtoon. However unfair it might be, it’s true that anything outside that box is taking a bit of a risk. The “webtoon artstyle” does exist for a reason.
Some people might crucify me for saying this but,
it's okay to not read a webcomic because you don't like the artstyle.
Like, I'm not saying that a good story is not important, because it is, no amount of pretty images can replace good story
But the thing about webcomics is that, in the end, they are a visual medium. They tell their story through interesting images. And it's okay if you have a preference for the artstyle.
Because I see a lot of people almost sneer that "so many great webcomics are getting ignored because they don't have (insert adjective here) art" as if, if you read comics partially or even mostly for their art you are shallow... for enjoying the media the way it is meant to be enjoyed...
Futhermore, sure, dialogue and text are powerful tools. But if your comic constantly takes a back seat to the mountains of text maybe consider writing a book instead? With occassional pictures if you really insist?
Idk I'm just ranting XD
