Even though i haven't been keeping them in a while i still love to spot and observe all the snails coming out during and after rain.. today i spotted a giant beautiful snail, shiny shell and all.. it was snailzilla! all grown up.. impossible to miss, three times the size of the other snails. I'm so proud of my shelled son!
Look at my babies :3 with time indiana snail(mom) slowed down her pace and is now content with eating and sleeping.. snailzilla (giant baby) just wants to explore! I'll have to come up with different decorations to keep them entertained!
Snailzilla (IndianaSnail's giant baby) finally got to live up to their name! They're now bigger than their mother (though much younger) and retained their father's look, so very dark and rounder shell... a very misterious snail indeed.
(Mom loves to smooch her child and let them carry her around)
(And for those wondering, they're not looking for a "mate", i had them hybernate and its colder now, they're very innocent kisses, just your usual snail socializing scene)
Now that it's winter and the sun goes down in the early evening im able to catch the cleaning crew without the hassle of waiting midnight to get atleast a glimpse of them :')
They're still very shy and hate the light though
This one's called "nope"
(In the remote chance you're wondering, there's a lot of springtails crawling around because i gave dry cat food to the snails and let some to rot for the rollie pollies to feast on. Springtails are just bonus work force 🤷♀️
I wanted to clarify a previous post of mine: when i said "as i found out" and then the name of the snail, after keeping the little critter for several days, i didnt mean that i kept it without knowing what it was. You NEVER do that! I meant that i didnt know the common english name (i dont live in an english speaking country)... please alway be fully informed about what you bring home, plant or animal that is, for yours and their well being.
My (as i found out) "glass snail" keeps going stronger than ever :) i even saw them laying eggs! We'll see what happens, ive never kept one before and im always excited when i get to see them walking around and generally be a content little snail doing their snail things. (As it is, they're very reclusive animals, and mostly spend their time underground/under rocks)
Bonus photos to show how long and thin they are compared to my other snails!
Cleaning up the tank.. found the biggest baby! I remember finding the first microscopic baby rollie pollie and thinking how long it would take them to grow up, being the "first tank generation".. im glad they turned out to be so big and healty! I greatly enjoy their presence in the tank :)
Mine are currently sleeping.. but i just saw a photo of two pet snails sharing some veggies and there's something so endearing about little animals eating together.. they're having a little dinner, taking a big bite with those ridicolous tiny mouths.. while wiggling their little eyestalks in excitiment. Such an endearing sight, such lovely little animals. I suppose i got emotional seeing someone else's snails having dinner together. That's all folks 🐌
Since i was making a big piece of pumpkin for the human part of the family, i decided to treat the snails as well and gave them a piece. Now, Indiana Snail does not care in the slightest, but the giant baby.. :') spent the last 30 minutes observing this tiny(not that tiny) baby eating away at a piece big 5 times their size, never stopping. Tomorrow we'll see the results, but its safe to assume pumpkin is MUCH more appreciated than a "mere"piece of fruit.
