It's not my intention to sound mean towards op and I hope it doesn't feel like that but there isn't a week w/out Harley being dragged into this discourse and i just have to say can't we have DIVERSITY among our characters? 😭 Batman the animated series already established from the very beginning that Harley was a caring person who was very influenced by the abusive figure of the joker (which doesn't erase or justifies the fact that she did what she did btw). The extended view of her origin story they later gave her lines up just fine and that doesn't mean Harleen Quinzel was a plain character with no complex traits and layers, because she was complex before even becoming Harley Quinn. Who Harley was and that she cared about her patients/cares about people is a very important and core part of Harley that you just can't dissociate her from without completely changing the character. Empathetic and caring is the way Harls has been for 30 years, sometimes even in her darkest times and in her own manner, and if that's not the most compelling path you like for characters that's fine, but Harley is Harley and she doesn't have to fall into others characters' category.

i hate when a villainous character gets popular enough to become a hero and writers try and retcon their histories so they never fucked up in the first place. "harley quinn was actually a good psychiatrist who cared about her patients!" "eddie brock was actually correct in his exposure of a serial killer and it wasn't negligent journalism!" i think it's way more compelling if they did in fact actively choose to do awful things and then actively chose to try and become better people afterwards.

I still remember that post that said that Harley was 'inherently friend-shaped', that people couldn't help but become fond of her, that she inevitably ended up growing on the characters that teamed up/spent time with her. And I think it's beautiful, that Harley is such a special character the narrative itself too fell in love with her

Getting mildly emotional about the fact that Harley Quinn was originally just some unnamed henchwoman in the series and how one of the last lines she says in her debut was something along the lines of 'I hope he doesn't forget about me'.

Just. The fact that she ends on that note and that she was supposed to be a one-and-done character that would have been forgotten but the fact that she wasn't. Aaaaaa

She is the living embodiment of saved by the narrative and I love her so much for it. The narrative wasn't supposed to save her, it wasn't supposed to remember her, but man did the narrative change it's mind.

honestly besides boycotting all those big companies for disgustingly supporting a genocide, you should also boycott them bc they are destroying the world. big companies are responsible for so much damage to the planet, they exploit earth's resources and people too, and take sales away from small businesses. so yeah, here you have yet another reason to keep giving your money to your local people from your neighbourhood or your city, small businesses from wherever you live instead of corporations. that's how you make your consuming habits not only more ethical but also more sustainable. and free palestine, today, tomorrow, and always. 🇵🇸
