You know, Asami didn't really have a purpose after Book 1. After thinking about it for the last 12 years it wouldn't have been super surprising if she was written out of the show like Tahno.

Filler episodes are necessary if it serves the purpose of exploring and developing main characters to ensure the audience cares about them, as well as to explore world-building. For example, Aang and his new friends going elephant koi surfing.

This is in contrast to filler episodes that straight up takes away from the main characters story & journey, and instead, focuses on new side characters. For example, the entirety of LOK B4.

I feel like condensing all of Book 1: Water into 8, hour long episodes and then releasing all of the episodes in one day doesn't work, not only because it doesn't capture the charm of the OG cartoon, but also because it makes first season less episodic. What made me, as a kid, excited for each episode as they aired every Saturday night back when ATLA was airing was the fact that watching every episode felt like I was on the same journey as Aang, Katara, and Sokka. NATLA sadly did not, and it sucks that Netflix missed the mark/didn't realize that.

I never expected the live action to be perfect, but I felt like the directors could make each episode feel less rushed by making 16, half-hour or 45 minute episodes. And perhaps release one or two episodes per week.

When I was 11 years old I ran into a Sukka fanfiction while looking for Sukka content (I didn't know what fanfiction was at the time) but it was smut and reading it traumatized my 11 year old self, so much so that I stayed away from fanfiction for years.
