The beach at St Bees in Cumbria. Lovely bright day but very chilly. Couldn't stay out for long as the wind was giving me an ice-cream headache, if you know what I mean.

Ahhhh this hits so hard. It'll be 5 years this month since I lost my other half. For the longest time, I couldn't remember the sound of his voice and that hurt so much. Then one day I remembered the way he used to say Hello on the phone - just that particular word. He always said it like he wasn't sure who was calling even when he knew it was me. It was weirdly so comforting just to hear that word in my head.
Time has passed now and I find that I don't mind about not remembering his voice so much because the passage of time also means that I think less about the pain and horror of losing him. I am able to mostly just think about the good times. Although... sometimes that still hurts too...
grief is so crazy like what if i forget what her laugh sounds like. does she know i loved her. i miss her so much. i catch myself doing things she used to do. i wish i could call her. i miss her so much. i do a crossword puzzle. i cry while washing the dishes. does she know i loved her? my heart feels like a hummingbird. i miss her so much. what if i forget what her laugh sounds like. what if i forget.

Aurora borealis is supposed to be visible all over the UK tonight but unfortunately it's cloudy where we are. We went out for a drive to see if we could find somewhere with visibility but got nothing so came home and took a picture of the halo round the moon instead.

That dot next to the Moon is Jupiter!
(Not my picture by the way - you can tell because it's
better quality 😭)

A few random photos of trees, lakes and mountains from my holiday.
Love the toadstools growing all over the tree outside our cottage.

Unfortunately the weather remained very rainy for most of our holiday. Just drove home through an Amber weather warning which was a little bit scary in places due to the amount of water on the road. But yesterday we managed to get out on Loch Linhe in a RIB boat. It was really fast and fun plus we spent a few minutes quietly getting close to the seals on their little rocky island. Still a couple of pups with their baby fur but they're so well camouflaged that they're hard to pick out. Mostly harbour seals but there were also a couple of grey seals - you can spot them as they're much bigger and a different colour.

Holiday in Ballachulish!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Arrived on Saturday for a week here. It's less than half an hour outside of Fort William and the cottage we're staying in is lovely. Weather was glorious yesterday despite it being 1st October so we took a drive along the shore of Loch Linhe towards Oban.
Today is v rainy so we probably won't be going far although we need to make the best of it as it's going to be wet all week. (It's Scotland in October - what were we expecting.)

Something a bit different for my day out yesterday. Went to watch Davis Cup tennis at the arena in Manchester so here are a couple of action shots of Jack Draper and Dan Evans. Both went on to win their matches. Hurrah!

Today I visited Burrs Country Park in Bury for a ramble. Despite it being so close to me, I've never visited it before. It's on the site of the former High Woodhill mill. This view is taken from the remaining floor overlooking the wheel pit.

And this is from the opposite side looking up.

Some nice planted flowers around. The bee on the white flower looked like it was asleep zzzzz...

And the ducks were pleased to see me until they realised that I had no food.

I went for a walk at Hollingworth Lake this morning. Looks a bit gloomy in this photo but I should have taken a picture when I got back round to here because it was lovely and sparkly in the sunshine.
I mostly concentrated on taking pictures of wild flowers growing alongside the path with the bees on them but they're hard to spot.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I spent ages trying to capture the bee in the pale pink flowers but they're deceptively deep so the bee kept disappearing right inside.

Today we went over to this place near Grantham that sells old shop mannequins. They also hire them out for events and filming but the old ones are just there in a big heap - you can fill your boot with them or ask for specific ones like a full woman plus a torso, which is what we did. This is the big pile.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
BUT that's not all. The people that own it have arranged them all around in very creepy / amusing poses. I think they also do special events at Halloween although you wouldn't catch me here after dark. It's in the middle of nowhere as well so a proper horror movie kind of location.

Just some waves at Cleveleys beach. We were sat on the steps enjoying the way they crashed onto the steps below us. We kept having to move higher up to avoid the spray.

Cleveleys beach is one of the filming locations for Andor. By a lucky chance we parked right next to this cafe that they used for scenes in S1 E3 so we took a few photos of ourselves here. It's just a normal beach-front cafe but clever the way they used it to create an other-wordly effect.

We went to the beach again today to escape all the hullabaloo going on at the moment. This time we went a bit further north up the coast and visited Cleveleys. The tide was coming in and was almost at its highest point before we left. I don't know what the art is called but we thought it looked like an unfurled croissant.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You can see how much the tide had come in by the time I took the last picture as the croissant had almost disappeared. It's quite an overcast day so the light wasn't great. Of course that's Blackpool Tower you can see in the distance.
